Just saw a picture of divine dragon chung myung before he got that title and it really hit me how small Cho Sam's body was when chung myung came back. This little thought has spoilers for chapter 400+ (I think anyway) and vague spoilers for everything past ch 400 until like. Ch 800
GOD OK so we as the reader understand chung myungs situation very very intimately. WE understand that he is an 80+ year old man mentally. WE understand that he is not in fact 15, then 17, then 19, 20, etc. Everyone around him, however, truly believe that he is those ages.
It's brushed upon multiple times throughout the novel, especially whenever chung myung is down for the count/recovering after a fight. The facade he makes around himself, the strong reliable leader, fades away and the "truth" of who he is reinstates itself to those close to him in this second life. His back, every time he wavers, is described as small. This is always through the perspective of anyone but himself. This is even more apparent whenever he is unconscious after a serious fight. I don't know exactly chapters, but i KNOW that baek cheon (and the rest of the 5 swords plus soso and hye yeon), at least once, has had the reality of Chung myungs apparent age dawn upon them. That they're youngest sajae (sahyung in soso's case) is constantly spilling his own blood to protect them. (This fact is straight up said by yu iseol after the particularly bad fight with Jang ilso, spitting her frustration with only getting in chung myungs way instead of protecting him).
This phenomenon is hardly limited to the main group of disciples. After the first myriad men siege on Mount hua (while The Gang is in Xian), everyone subconsciously gains courage with the thought that soon enough chung myung will come, that he'll protect them. The disciples (soso being the most prevalent since she's one of the main disciples focused on in the novel) of course correct this thought, realizing that they cannot rely on chung myung forever. Anyways moving on from just describing this arc. What I mainly want to focus on is Hyun jong and chung myungs interaction AFTER the siege is finished, after un gum is fresh off of his amputation, after chung myung has barely gotten treatment for his own (quite serious) injuries.
What do you think when through Hyun jong's mind, seeing his youngest disciple, the one who brought back the hope that had almost died out with his sect, ruthlessly kill the enemy, return heavily wounded, and then try to sneak out almost immediately to go back to smite those who have harmed his home? To us, Chung myung is more than capable. He's the plum blossom sword Saint, the one who (even with all the regret he holds over this) severed the head of the heavenly demon. He's an 80+ year old man trying to protect the only thing besides bloodshed that is familiar in this second life. We understand the guilt he has over not being able to protect his home the first time. We understand that he would rather die than allow Mount Hua to fall again.
Hyun jong does not know this. He does not understand chung myungs rage (and guilt and grief and longing and-). He looks at chung myung and sees an 18 or 19 (I don't remember) year old boy, covered in wounds, trying to sneak out of his home on a suicide mission of revenge. He sees a boy. He knows that if he let's this boy go, he will never see him alive again. So he uses chung myungs borderline (who are we kidding, it is way past borderline) unhealthy loyalty with mount hua to dissuade him from walking to his death.
ANYWAYS long story not so short, I need need need more analysis over what everyone but chung myung thinks about him. Everyone sees this young teen, then young adult, bend over backwards to the point where he has almost died so so so many times just so mount hua can flourish. They've seen him kill ruthlessly, they've seen him sob over the skeleton of an ancestor (one of his brothers, a reminder of what he has lost, what he will never get back), they've seen him silly and carefree, they've seen him almost mad with bloodlust.
To us, he is chung myung, the old plum blossom sword Saint, slayer of the heavenly demon. To them, he is chung myung, the scrawny 15 year old that changed their lives, that faces unknown traumas, that has had a life so, so unkind to him.
Sometimes I look at chung myung pre time skip, how small he is, how he looks like a child, how he acts nothing like one, and remember that only we, the readers, get the full context behind his actions.
#ANYWAYS#this turned out to be uh. not so small.#but no i saw 15 yr old chung myung and went#wow he really does look like a baby#and then my thoughts went WILD#i know this is kind of just like. a summery of a few different parts of the novel#and i kjnd repeat myself a lot#but i read a fic a whole ago that kind of touches on this whole conceot#i Do Not remeber what its called#but its basically the mount hua elders discussing things#and then chung myung is brought up#and all of them are like#wow this kid has obviously been through some shit. life has NOT been kind to him#but uh no yeah#sometimes i forget that the people of mount hua do NOT have the same context we do#and in place of the chung myung we see#they see a very very traumatized and scarily capable teen/young adult#and they dont know WHY HE ACTS LIKE THAT#but yeah hope this kinda makes sense#this novel makes me sick#return of the blossoming blade#rotmhs#return of the mount hua sect#analysis

I love how the fandom collectively agrees that Cho sam is either a wholesome bean that must be protected at all cost, or a normal dude with no(?) personality whatsoever outside of being normal. ( Maybe he's more of a troublemaker idk, but atleast he's less worse than chung myung heh-)
And whether you think he's confident or not, You just know he'll be scared shitless of what ever the fuck is going on in Mount Hua Sect.
Anyhow, no matter what cho sam's interpretation in your mind, I need more fics, and art of him- PLEASSE🙏🙏🙏

How long do you think Chung Myung would be in denial for when he catches feelings? And how do you believe he admits/realises he's in love?
he can be in denial for so long and when i say long, believe me, it will be YEARS but it depends on which chung myung is this: pbss chung myung will be oblivious to his feelings but he pretty much catches on a little bit late. he can go lengths and lengths for the person of his affection and never realize he sees them in a romantic light until the universe sends a signal — in the form of chang mun sahyung dropping cryptic hints to chung myung about his feelings. he’ll be pretty skeptical at first. he will undergo the denial phase for many years because ya know ╮( ̄▽ ̄"")╭ he can be quite good at keeping his emotions in check. chung myung can deny but his actions will say otherwise HAHAHAA ꉂꉂ◟(˃᷄ꇴ᷅๑)༡
mhdd chung myung, however, is too focused on rebuilding mount hua and keeping in check to make sure mount hua will surpass its former glory — HE WILL HAVE NO TIME REALIZING HIS FEELINGS. the people around him??? they aren’t blind ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ who can resist seeing their youngest one experiencing the winds of sweet spring? even more that the youngest in question is chung myung. they will be intrigued and having second thoughts — because how???? yeah. and so, jo gul is the one first to speak up and oh boy chung myung is hella confused until he gets angry about whatever love nonsense and threatens him to do hard drills <(ꐦㅍ _ㅍ)> this will be followed by the others until the sect leader and the elders hear of it: hyun young is proud, un gom and un am are surprised, hyun sang prays for whoever got chung myung’s heart, and hyung jong is excited to hear more about it from the lover boy himself (they don't know chung myung doesn’t know he has romantic feelings…) once brought up in front of him and everyone leaves him alone with his thoughts, he is having crisis HHAHAHAHAA ꉂꉂ◟(˃᷄ꇴ˂᷅๑)༡
the similarity between the two is that during the in-denial phase, chung myung keeps giving the person of his affection dirty looks and mumbling to himself (͠≖~≖ ͡ )
as for admitting his feelings, chung myung is internally screaming and raging and just (he has been using his brain to think for fourteen hours now he says, ( ◡̀_◡́)ᕤ ‘fuck it’)…admits. will he confess? nopeee, he will not confess right away. he is most likely to see if the other person also sees him in the same way and even if he does notice, he’ll never say a thing. chung myung is the type of person to place friendship and family above of all else and with the conflicts surrounding the sects, he doesn’t want to hurt the other person or lead them on. then again, you just know chung myung treats a special someone by attaching them with an object that reminds him of them, he openly shows his affection like that.

Hi, Tin! I love your writing and I have a prompt for you, if you are interested) what if Tang family is too afraid of Tang Bo leaving permanently and eloping with Cheong Myeong? So they initiate marriage negotiations with Mount Hua. It can be angst (CM is socially isolated and insecure about his position) or romantic comedy (awkward situations and protective Cheong Mun), up to you). Thank you in advance!
It was a well-established fact that the Dark Saint of the Tang Family was one of their generation's best.
So it came as no surprise when an influx of marriage proposals flooded their family's estate—because rumors started flying around that the Dark Saint was in search of a partner.
The Dark Saint held a reputation for being cold and ruthless. To cultivators and martial artists, he was someone they feared making into an enemy due to his sheer battle prowess and poisonous abilities. To normal civilians, he was a genius who wielded the Tang Family's techniques with cool precision and intent; to them, he was just another mysterious cultivator that they would only ever know of through gossip and stories.
However, in recent years, something shifted. His reputation among common folk was slowly altered. It started off with a supposed battle between him and the Plum Blossom Sword Saint which turned into a sudden and unexpected friendship.
Whereas in the past the Dark Saint would only go around Sichuan and closeby villages, he was now found going around different major cities and unknown ones.
He was often in the company of Mount Hua's Plum Blossom Sword Saint, who worked with him side-by-side to eradicate groups from the Demonic Cult and the occasional bandits and thieves.
For supposed Taoists, the two visited different establishments to drink alcohol and talk cheerily. It was during one of these moments that the first rumor began its spark.
"Ahhhh," The Plum Blossom Sword Saint groans in satisfaction. "That sure hits the spot!"
The Dark Saint chuckles as he tosses back his own drink. "If only I could enjoy everyday like this. Alcohol really is the best."
"What would your future wife think?" The Plum Blossom Sword Saint jokingly and dramatically shakes his head in disappointment. "To have a husband who loves alcohol more than his own wife...!"
The Dark Saint wiggles his eyebrows suggestively. "Trust me, I would make sure that my wife knows full-well just how much I love them."
The two of them share a silent, private conversation with just their eyes alone, that none of the other restaurant's customers could decipher, before they leave a generous tip and went on their way.
It snowballs from there.
All of a sudden gossip went around about the Dark Saint's interest in finding a wife. And so several people came to the same conclusion.
The reason why the Dark Saint is travelling around more than usual is because he's looking for a prospective wife.
Clearly, the Plum Blossom Sword Saint was there to provide moral support. How truly admirable and strong their brotherhood must be!
On the other hand, the head of the Tang Family was fully aware of their Dark Saint's single-minded interest in Mount Hua's Chung Myung.
Seeing all the stacks of letters that ranged from proposing strategic alliances and general marriage offers brought the current head of the Tang Family to a very different conclusion.
Tang Bo was trying to slowly draw himself away from their family by leaving their estate. He might be on the hunt, jumping from village to village, trying to create a dowry befitting for the hand of the Plum Blossom Sword Saint and scouting out all the best locations to settle down in.
It really wouldn't be too surprising of an idea if one day a letter turns up from the man with an intent of permanently moving to Mount Hua or some backwater village.
The Tang Family head shakes the thought of losing one of their best and genius members to one of the Ten Great Sects. If he wanted to maintain their family's reputation, he'll need to strike the first move.
And so he begins to pen a decisive letter to the Sect Leader of Mount Hua.
%%%
Chung Mun's hands tremble as reads the letter sent to him by the Tang Family.
'Who did they think they were?' He would have bit out if he had any less self-restraint. The paper crumples in his grip and he receives a questioning glance from Chung Myung who was sprawled eating mooncakes on the opposite side of his desk.
"What's got you so worked up?" The subject of the letter askswithout a care.
Chung Mun takes a deep breath. "The Tang Family wishes for you to transfer into their estate."
He refuses to say out loud the marriage proposal that came along with this request. His Chung Myung was too young! The man might be a sixty years old, but that round face, cheeks carelessly bulging with mooncakes with crumbs littered on his chin, screamed too young for marriage!
"Oh." Chung Myung nods in understanding.
Chung Mun is glad that Chung Myung agrees that this was nonsensical. To think, they thought that Chung Myung would even leave Mount Hua for—
"After the war is over, Tang Bo and I were planning to be roommates and travel the world a bit."
—?????
"Roommates?" Chung Mun's voices comes out slightly strangled.
"Yup. It's going to be great."
"No."
"'No'?"
Chung Mun tries to run through his previous conversations with Tang Bo. He knew that the man was capable of being underhanded, but he was also well-aware that Tang Bo respected him enough to not blind-side him with something like this. Especially since it concerned Chung Myung.
...
...Oh no.
"Fuck." Chung Mun says, full of feeling as he recalls Tang Bo off-handedly asking permission to live together with Chung Myung in the future.
"...Sect Leader?"
Chung Mun had thought that was a joke! He thought Tang Bo wasn't being serious! They were talking with alcohol in their systems!
The alarmed look that crosses Chung Myung's face informed Chung Mun that the way he felt his blood drain from his face was a visible, physical reaction.
"He asked for your hand in marriage." Chung Mun says faintly. "I said yes."
Chung Myung blinked at him. "Yeah? He told me?"
Okay. Tang Bo, to his credit, hasn't been leaving Chung Myung in the dark at least.
If Chung Myung knows and isn't reacting violently that means that he isn't completely against this. Even if Chung Mun was, he had to reorganize his priorties.
And his number one would be to make sure Chung Myung was happy.
((And to make sure that the Tang Family doesn't think they can step on Chung Mun and pull his little brother away.))
"I'll have to recheck the sect's budget and my own savings to make sure we have enough for the wedding preparations..." Chung Mun mutters as he begins drafting a response to the Tang Family with what he thought were better marriage agreement conditions.
But then, a flash of dread causes Chung Mun to pause writing and leave a dark ink blot on the paper. He suspected, but he really wishes that he was wrong—!
"Huh?" Chung Myung gives Chung Mun a confused look. "We already got married though?"
#cmun: you didn't invite me to your wedding??!?!?!?!?#cm: we literally just a signed a paper and kissed#cm and tb eloped because cm didn't want to stretch out mount hua's resources during a war bc of wedding prep#tb and cm are too in love and just decided to get married in the middle of a drinking session actually#they only realized what they did when they woke up the next day but then 'hm? this isn't bad tho?'#anyway cmun asks them to redo their marriage lol he def cries when cmyung bows to him in lieu during the three bows#the tang and mount hua come to an agreement that they get half a year each 👍#and if tang bo still dies in this au and cm is left a widower......jk jk but then again#»—————————–✄#sorry this took me a while 🥺🙏 irl wasn't kicking it HAHAHAHA#I'm super happy to hear you enjoy my writing and thank you so much for the prompt WAHAHAHAHA#i havent finished reading the side stories yet so sorry if I messed up canon#might come back to this prompt if I find out more info bc there's so much to explore 🙈#and i had to stop bc this was already 1.1k HAHAHAHA#tangchung#chung myung#chung mun#tang bo#rotmhs#rotbb#return of mount hua sect#return of the blossoming blade#tin writes#my ask hole#w-s-kibela

(pre-reincarnation!chung myung & reader)
(In which you meet him for several times.)
The first time you met him, you remember thinking one thing.
‘What a small child.’
Cold autumn air pricks at your skin, puffs of condensed air surrounding your lips, your warmth sourced from the bundles of scarves you had wrapped around yourself. Curious eyes watched the wrapped child being held in your elder’s arms; small hands, already so beaten and bruised at a young age, held back the temptation to hold him and fascinate in awe over the smaller being.
Despite being one of the older children, bearing witness to the numerous people who had joined the sect, you were still so fascinated at the younger ones being brought in. Even as you grew up in the walls of the esteemed sect, hearing people come and go through the wide doors, red painted wood opening and closing with a loud creak— You always seemed to miss the exact moment of their entry and departure, always so caught up in the swings of your wooden sword; each swing harsher than the rest, each stroke softer than before. Gaze boring into the tip of the blunt weapon as if it had wronged your entire bloodline; your mind dazed as you watched your own body be controlled by the memories of a practiced dance, over and over again. It was like you only had eyes for the sword, and nothing else.
Yet this time, you caught a sight of something else for the first time.
And that just so happens to be the first time you met that child, on October 10. Blue skies tinted with a yellowish hue, the clouds passing through the gates of the sect, watching the newest addition to the family you had grown to love over the years. Hiding above the tall pink trees that decorated the grounds, you didn’t dare to reveal yourself despite the waging curiosity and interest in your heart.
Perhaps you were afraid of dealing with a younger child, afraid of hearing it cry so suddenly in your presence; or perhaps you were afraid of being found by your seniors for slacking off, the height of your rebellious stage beginning to peek through the cracks of your innocent exterior despite being years away from reaching the peak of your adolescent adventures. They had always said that the quieter ones were the most unexpected ones, after all.
So, you continued to watch from afar, the scent of plum blossoms beginning to feel overwhelming as you surrounded yourself in it, drowning your shadows in a pink sea.
–
The second time you had met him, it was when you were assigned to take care of him, when he could barely even walk. You had wondered what kind of person he will grow into, holding chubby little hands in your bigger ones, squishing the flesh with an amused smile. He was so weak, so defenseless. Even though you were the same, merely a few years difference between the both of you, you still felt a sense of protectiveness over the boy, wanting to shield him from the harm the world could ever bring him.
At that moment, you allowed a promise to be made, to swear by a self-inflicted oath to protect the child before you. Why would you do something for someone you had just met? A child, whose only life was behind the guarded walls of the sect and surrounded with the warmth of a family, had no idea how valuable a life was.
Even so, you gave yours to him.
You gave yours to them.
A sudden tight pinch alerts you from your thoughts, flinching slightly from the death grip this child has. You tried prying off your fingers, fearing it might break, but his grip was too strong, and you didn’t want to hurt the child.
You sighed. You were never expecting a younger child to have such a monstrocious grip strength.
Maybe, you didn’t need to protect him after all. Maybe, this child was someone who might be the one to protect you in the future, instead.
You chuckled.
As if.
Even if this child grows up to be the savior of the world, you were still his senior. As his older senior, you would do your best to accompany him, so he wouldn’t be lonely. As his older senior, you had a duty to guide and protect your younger sect members. Just like how your seniors did to you, and just like how their seniors did to them.
You were his senior. You had a duty to fulfill.
–
The one hundred sixty-eighth time you had met him, he was running from his sect brother. You, who remained diligent in your training, bumped into him after a long time. Or, well, he bumped into you, causing the little findings in his hands to drop and spill onto the ground.
“Ah– There you are.”
You picked him up like a stray cat, his expression morphing from a mischievous glee to a nervous smile. He still greeted you as always, his voice abnormally innocent and kind. Cheeky little one, you bemused. As an expert is able to discern an amateur's lies, you weren’t a fool to trust his facade, having experienced the same scene that played before them over and over again while still in their youth.
It was like you could hear the sighs of your fellow sect members, shaking their heads as they hear you speak like an elder despite your young age. They would joke that perhaps an older spirit had possessed your body, causing you to act like a matured grandpa whilst adorning a teenage face. You, in turn would just solemnly nod and bemoan out loud whenever it rains, complaining about your aching knees and tired back to run from training. At first, it would work, but people soon stopped believing your act of compliance towards their jokes and forced you to return to sword swingings. What a pity.
Of course, as the kind and mature senior you were, you were about to give him advice on how to act better and let him off if he were to share with you his findings, but was unfortunately disrupted by the voice of another sect brother who came running towards the both of you, obviously exhausted. You pitied him, for a moment, deciding to continue your mask as the reliable senior instead.
To be honest, you pitied yourself more; for losing the opportunity to share a drink underneath the moonlight with your fellow disciples.
You smiled at him as he spoke words that flew from one ear to another, your mind too occupied with the devastating fates that separated you and your beloved wine. Disappointment leaks through your expression, causing your juniors to freeze.
Chung Myung-ah, you should’ve ran faster.
Placing him down, you acted as nonchalant as possible, seeing another opportunity to grab and pick up the bottles, leaving the both of them behind. You silently applauded yourself for the genius idea that appeared in your mind in the spur of the moment as you walked away, promising yourself to pay your junior back for giving you such a wonderful chance.
–
The five hundred and twelfth time you had met him, he was working hard in the training grounds you once found yourself in nearly every day, taking your place in his diligent training. You were merely passing through, taking a break from your own practices when your eyes caught the familiar tuff of black hair, standing amidst the neatly arranged crowd of disciples. Wooden sword in his hand, it reminds you of the ones you broke countless times during your past, before you were sentenced to cleaning the halls because of one too many losses.
It’s not your fault the wooden sword couldn’t handle your strength, you thought, pouting slightly as you mopped the floors clean. Unfortunately for you, the elders thought otherwise. Maybe that’s why they had you banned from using the wooden swords for a short period of time, and why they decided to exclude you from the practices right now.
…No, that’s not it. You were clearly just slacking off by telling your instructor that you had to grab the specialized sword that the sect elders made for you just to stop you from continuing to cause any more losses to their savings. Obviously, you did grab it, but you just went for the longer route to go back to your training. If they asked, you would just blame it on your weak knees.
Your attention returned to the shouts of your junior brothers as they swung their swords, eyes filled with determination to perform the best in their group. You smiled, watching the younger ones repeat the same dance you had forced yourself to do a few years back, the same fire burning their limbs underneath the sun after hours and hours of non-stop swinging.
As you walked away, footsteps softly resounding across the cobblestone pathway, the already quiet paddings underneath your feet deafened by the passionate yells from your juniors, you wondered how long it would take for him to grow stronger and become like you.
You silently hoped that it would never come.
—
The five hundred twentieth time you had met him, it was night. The moon shone above the both of you, the birds long returned to their homes and quietly entered their slumber, just like everyone else in the sect. So, why were the both of you staring at each other wide-eyed, hands holding something the both of you shouldn’t be holding?
A look of recognition was passed between the two, a silent nod and approval of each other’s action. Who would’ve thought that the senior that everyone thought was a stickler for rules was such a troublemaker? Who would’ve thought that the growing prodigy in the sect was such a troublemaker? (The latter was quite a known case, but the former was still quite a surprise to those who were not of the same generation. What a well-kept secret, indeed.)
Before the two could even do anything, a sudden flicker of light appeared from a corner, causing them to bolt into different directions, the shouts of an elder close behind them. The younger one, who was nearly caught, found himself being grabbed by the back of his neck and pulled towards a secluded place, where another senior looked at him in surprise.
Three of them stayed quiet behind the walls, their breathing soft and quiet despite the harsh beatings in their heart, the bottles in their hands nearly breaking from the sheer pressure. The seconds felt like years, the stress from being caught causing them to age several years, but it was by luck that the elder was too tired to look closer. Perhaps if he did, he would catch three delinquents with one too many bottles of wine in their possessions, staring right back at him.
‘Maybe this is why senior was always complaining about having grey hair, Chung Myung thought.
A soft sigh escapes your lips, the feeling of relief flooding your veins as you slowly slide down the walls and sit on the floor. Nervous hearts pounded with blood, before the adrenaline rush dies down and you find yourself chuckling, giggling softly at the excitement this brings.
It’s true when they said that laughter was contagious, for the small corner was soon filled with childish sniggerings, three unruly disciples enjoying the stolen fruits of their labor in the night together. Underneath the moonlit gleam, you shared a drink with your fellow disciples, raising your glass high in the air, cheeks red from both the alcohol and joy.

When South Korean legislator Kim Min-seok warned in August that President Yoon Suk-yeol might be plotting to declare martial law, even the most ardent critics of Yoon were skeptical. Of course, the right-wing president was increasingly displaying authoritarian tendencies. In response to his miserably low approval rating, hovering between the high teens and low 20s, as well as mounting corruption allegations against him and his wife, Yoon ordered indiscriminate raids of the offices and residences of liberal politicians and journalists, numerous thinly supported criminal charges against opposition leader Lee Jae-myung, and ostentatious military parades.
But still, the idea that Yoon might attempt martial law and a self-coup—where an existing leader seizes dictatorial powerseemed to be too outlandish. It was seen as partisan fodder, unbecoming of a lawmaker of Kim’s stature—a respected former youth leader of the South Korean democracy movement that ended the military dictatorship of Chun Doo-hwan in 1987. South Korea had not seen martial law since its democratic transition, although a declaration of martial law remained a theoretical possibility in case of a wartime emergency in a hypothetical clash with North Korea.
Then it happened. At 10:23 p.m. local time on Dec. 3, Yoon called an unscheduled press conference. In a six-minute statement, Yoon announced that he was declaring an emergency martial law, claiming that the opposition Democratic Party made the National Assembly “a monster trying to destroy liberal democracy” because the liberal party had brought 22 impeachments against officials in his administration and threatened to slash its discretionary budget. Yoon branded his political opponents are “pro-Pyongyang anti-state forces,” in the same rhetoric that South Korea’s military dictators had used to justify their rule.
Within an hour, Gen. Park An-soo was appointed as the commander of the Martial Law Command, which decreed that all political activities in national and local legislatures were prohibited, all media were subject to the control of the Martial Law Command, and public gatherings and rallies were prohibited. Soon, armored cars and helicopters began emerging in the streets of Seoul.
South Korean news anchors reporting the announcements were visibly shaking because they knew, as did most South Koreans, what could be in store. The last time martial law was declared in South Korea was in 1979, in the waning days of Park Chung-hee’s dictatorship that later gave way to Chun’s. In that martial law period, from October 1979 to January 1981, Chun’s paratroopers massacred hundreds of protesters, perhaps thousands, in the southwestern city of Gwangju.
The mass murders in the aftermath of the Gwangju Uprising became one of the defining moments of modern South Korean history, memorialized in the novel Human Acts by Han Kang, who won the Nobel Prize in literature in October and is due to give her acceptance speech next week. But in 2024, most South Koreans had regarded the massacre as a distant historical event, a tragic but old incident that their country had put past. The public watched the news in shock as armored cars and helicopters were heading to the National Assembly, where lawmakers had the ability to end martial law by a majority vote.
Fortunately, history did not repeat itself—in part because, as with everything he has done, Yoon executed the autogolpe with clownish incompetence. Aspiring authoritarians around the world have long had an established playbook for coups: TV broadcast controlled, the internet jammed, opposition leaders arrested, and checkpoints set up around the city.
The martial law declaration aspired to all of these possibilities, especially control of the media. Yet none of those things happened on the night of Dec. 3. TV cameras roamed freely near the National Assembly Hall, while liberal leaders exhorted the public via social media to protest against Yoon’s power grab. Squads were reportedly deployed to arrest key opposition leaders but were too slow to stop them. Soldiers were reluctant to use force, letting themselves be pushed back by unarmed protesters.
Although details are still emerging as of this writing (around 24 hours since the martial law declaration), it appears that Yoon’s self-coup attempt was so clumsy because the president could not balance the need to keep his plan secret and the need to get the requite buy-ins from key players. Reportedly, it was Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun who suggested declaring martial law. But Kim could only muster a small segment of the military to follow his orders; most of the military and the police remained in their posts. Yoon apparently had no buy-in from conservatives either, as People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon quickly denounced the coup attempt.
Nevertheless, there were many moments where just one wrong turn could have resulted in chaos and bloodbath. Under the law, the National Assembly can end martial law with a majority vote—but of course, that assumes that the legislators are able to vote. The declaration, completely illegally, forbade the National Assembly from gathering, and armed soldiers were dispatched to patrol outside the Assembly Hall, as helicopters equipped with machine guns hovered over them.
Somehow, the South Korean legislators managed. The protesters led a tense standoff against the special forces deployed to the legislature, blocking the soldiers and armored cars while opening a path for lawmakers to enter the building. Democratic Party spokesperson Ahn Gwi-ryeong wrestled an armed soldier with her bare hands before going into the building. Lee, the Democratic leader, showed surprising athleticism for a 60-year-old as he hopped over the walls to avoid the soldiers in front of the building—while livestreaming a video of himself to boot. Thankfully, not a shot was fired.
Once in the building, the lawmakers and their aides barricaded the entrance and opened the legislative session at 12:49 a.m. Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik emphasized that proper parliamentary procedure must be followed to leave no doubt about the result, even as paratroopers broke a window to enter the building and legislative aides pushed them back with fire extinguishers and cellphone flashes.
At 1:01 a.m., after 12 agonizing minutes of typing up the bill and submitting it in accordance with the parliamentary procedure, the 190 out of 300 Assembly members who could manage to enter the hall, including 18 legislators of Yoon’s own party, unanimously voted to end martial law. After a few moments of hesitation, the helicopters and armored cars, then the soldiers, began leaving the hall. Even after the vote, there remained a question whether Yoon would honor the National Assembly vote. The legislators remained in the hall, fearing that Yoon might redeploy the military or declare martial law once again. But at 4:27 a.m., the defeated and humiliated Yoon held a press conference to announce that he would lift martial law.
As of this writing, the situation remains fluid. But it does not appear likely that Yoon will be able to finish out the remainder of his term, which runs until 2027. The Democratic Party demanded that Yoon resign immediately or face impeachment proceedings, which require a two-thirds majority of the 300-seat Assembly. Although Yoon’s party holds a slim buffer with 108 legislators, the president’s coup attempt is likely to be enough to peel off at least eight lawmakers, since 18 of them already voted to end martial law.
Yoon may choose to resign rather than to face the ignominy—though he might still be prosecuted. South Korea has an illustrious history of prosecuting and jailing its former presidents, including two out of the past three presidents, Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye, both conservatives.
However it ends, Yoon’s presidency will serve as a reminder of the resilience of South Korean democracy. South Korea’s first martial law situation in more than four decades ended in approximately six hours, based on a parliamentary vote, with no casualties and not a single shot fired. One errant bullet could have changed the course of history, but the overwhelming weight of democratic norms, physically manifest in a protesting public and the parliamentarians calmly voting in the face of ongoing assault, stayed the hands of the soldiers.
On the other hand, it is another embarrassment for South Korean conservatives, who miraculously came back from the impeachment of their last president, Park, in 2017 to recapture the presidency in a narrow win in 2022 based mostly on grievances about high housing costs. This latest episode will do little to help right-wing leaders shed their reputation as the descendants of military dictators with a streak of authoritarianism that could flare up at the first sign of trouble. The so-called reasonable conservatives, the smaller cadre of right-leaning moderates who think vainly that they can work within the system to change it, will once again have to impeach their own president.

Can you do Chung Myung x reader secret relationship
Anonymous asked:
M6 I request Chung Myung x reader in a secret relationship headcannons?
I am just going to combine these two as they are the same thing! Thanks for the request and enjoy!! Sorry this came out so late!! And I apologize if they are both really short!
Days had passed by without a word from Chung Myung. He had told you that he would try and make an excuse and leave for a while but it didn’t seem to be working that well. You see, you and Chung Myung are in a secret relationship. Chung Myung had told you roughly 5 months into the two of you dating that he wasn’t allowed to date. You had been extremely angry about him lying to you but when he explained that he never really followed any of the rules, you calmed down but it still angered you that he hadn’t mentioned that till now.
He never really told you why he couldn’t have a girlfriend but you knew it was for a certain reason. You made sure to keep it under wraps when you went to the sect to deliver the items that they had asked for. You trudged up the stairs and delivered the products in person considering you needed the extra money and the man running the store was very lazy and never hired a runner. So you were in charge of manning the orders that came through and delivering them as well.
It was exhausting but you needed to do it in order to make as much money as you could. You narrowed your eyes as you focused on getting your body up the stairs and towards the sect. You took labored breaths as you climbed higher and higher. Once you made it to the top, you took deep gasping breaths before knocking on the door. When the doors swung open, you placed a smile on your face and handed the person the papers that sat in your satchel.
“I brought everything that you requested sir. Sorry it took so long to get here. My boss doesn’t tell me when it will arrive.”
The man before you had a gentle smile on his face and his eyes spoke of fatherly love. Something you never really experienced before.
“Don’t worry about it darling. Why don’t you come in and rest for a bit. You must be really tired.” The older man said, gesturing to the building a little further from where she was standing.
“I couldn’t possibly intrude.” You said, giving the man a smile before turning to leave.
“Y/n, just stay for a bit. The old man runs you to the bone and it really annoys me.” You turned to see Chung Myung standing there, shirtless, and fuming angry.
You sighed but decided to stay at the sect til your body was well rested and ready to make the trek back to town.
You were about half way down the stairs when you heard your boyfriend call out to you.
You turned around expecting him to be farther from you but found him rather extremely close to where you were on the stairs and you were terrified of his endurance.
When he was a few steps away from you, he placed his hands on his knees and pretended to be breathless as you giggled and covered your mouth.
“Thank you for bringing those up. You need to find a better job though. I don’t like that your boss does nothing and sits on his ass every second of the day while you are running around.”
You look down before feeling his arms wrap around you and pull you into his chest.
“I know it's forbidden for you and I to be dating but, I was never one for following rules.” He said leaning down and pressing a kiss to your lips.
You giggled into the kiss and gently punched his chest but a sweet smile fell on your lips.
“Thank you Myung. For everything.” you said, pressing a kiss to his check and waving goodbye before descending down the stairs again.

i think if CM actually got to live long enough for his hair to turn white hed probably just look like he has albinism. if he isnt tan @ least. i HC he just has no iris pigment too! but i also hc he has a few white lashes & some white eyebrow hairs. not enough to be super noticeable if you dont get close, & really- no one ever gets to be that close to him.
but yeah light sensitive CM. probably doesnt even notice/care until it gets brought up & hes like ‘wait yall DONT feel immense headaches when stepping into the sun?’ L0L someone get him some sunglasses…..
YESS ur hc that he has some white hairs makes it sound like he has a little vitiligo, which can also affect eye colour though not necessarily in the same way albinism does.. chung myung having vitiligo that affects his eyes, some parts of his skin, and even hair colour is super interesting actually i hadnt even thought abt it before u brought it up omgee.. i imagine if he had vitiligo it wouldnt be all that visible on his skin unless u looked super close since it isnt always noticeable on lighter skin tones but he would have streaks of white on his eyelashes/eyebrows/hair incl his pink eyes.. so cool..... much to think about..
i also like to think since hes so sensitive to light hes always squinting which makes him look angrier and less approachable than he usually is LOL poor guy.. tang bo back in the day probably shielded him from the sun w his big drapey sleeves

The Real Face of the Unification Church – What is the group doing? Uncovering its creepy reality.
In Japan the Unification Church was known as the Principle Movement for many years
原理運動の素顔―何をする集団なのか その不気味さの実態を衝く (1975 年) 山口 浩 (やまぐち・ひろし)
This book was written by Hiroshi Yamaguchi and published in Japan in August 1975. The author did a lot of research on Moon and the ‘Principle Movement’. Mr. Yamaguchi traveled to Korea and met people who had known Moon in his younger days, had been early members or had been studying the movement since the 1950s.
Chapter 5: The History of the Unification Church and the Founder ・The Early Life of Sun Myung Moon
Extract from this chapter:
5. The Founder・The Real Face of Sun Myung Moon
京城商工実務学校の卒業写真・後列左から5人目が文 (下の写真は拡大図)
Gyeongseong Trade and Technical Business College graduation photo・Moon is fifth from the left in the back row. (The smaller photo is an enlarged view.)
pages 132-135: Moon’s hidden secret – Is his revelation from God at the age of 16 a lie?
While I tried to gather more information in Seoul, I got wind of the name of this school one day. Using my influential connection, I managed to meet a person who had been a classmate of Emoto Ryumei. [ie Sun Myung Moon – Emoto Ryumei was the Japanese name he used during the last years of the Japanese occupation of Korea]. And here you can see [above] the graduation photo which I borrowed from him. Though his hair is close-cropped, the 18-year-old Emoto Ryumei is no different from the current Sun Myung Moon. It is obvious that they are both the same person.
Though the school has changed its name to Chung-ang University, they, the graduates who had been educated through this hand-made school, made every effort to invite both Professor Doi and Professor Sonobe over to South Korea. In addition to that, the graduates negotiated with the current Chung-ang University to gain residency for those who had graduated during the Gyeongseong Trade and Technical Business College era, including themselves. They got permission from the current school principal.
Soon, thanks to effort of the graduates in Japan, they managed to find the whereabouts of both Professor Doi and Professor Sonobe. They were invited to South Korea from about five years ago, and received a warm welcome from the several hundred graduates who gathered. Among them were army officers and company presidents. They brought Professor Doi and others to the former school – which had been transformed from a tiny hand-made building into a respectable University – where they planted memorial trees.
Ryumei Emoto [Sun Myung Moon], who should have been there among the graduates who were giving such warm welcomes, could not be found. Welcome parties had been held several times, whenever the professors had visited South Korea during the previous five years. His schoolmates got indignant at Ryumei Emoto because he never showed up. They ended up omitting his name from the alumni association list.
Last year Mr. Sonobe sent a letter to Sun Myung Moon. He wrote something like, “Are you not Mr. Ryumei Emoto? I heard you have been making some trouble in the world recently, but you ought to stop that. It has been a long time since we first met, but why don’t we meet up and talk,” however, he never got any answer.
Ryumei Emoto, who received the revelation from God at the age of 16, is supposed to have lived a very devout life during his time at the Gyeongseong Trade and Technical College. This is what is written in “The History of the Unification Church.” Both Professor Doi and Professor Sonobe said, “We didn’t notice that at all.”
Even though both professors were Christians and used to go to Sunday school, they have no recollection of seeing the close-cropped pupil Ryumei Emoto there.
Furthermore, the former classmate who provided me with the group picture, clearly declared that Sun Myung Moon was not a religious man. The classmate said that it might have been the influence of both of the professors which affected him and made him the man we know today. Not by revelation from God himself, but because of the revelation from his teachers he became a billionaire. You can never know what life brings.
Moon’s biography is not clear between 1939, when he graduated from Gyeongseong Trade and Technical College, and 1941 when he crossed over the sea to Japan.
The words of the profile of Rev. Moon read “From then to 1945, the year South Korea was liberated from Japan, he spent a quiet introspective time in pursuit of the truth. During this period, he cultivated his life of faith and his spiritual sense.” It seems he did not walk the road of suffering, covered with blood, sweat and tears – which is also described in his life story.
As a matter of fact, he stayed in Japan from 1941 to 1944, participating in the anti-Japan underground movement. In other words, he turned against Japan.
It might be true that the young Sun Myung Moon tried to resist the tyranny of the Japanese troops in South Korea, and fight for the people because what he saw might have been beyond what he could tolerate. Therefore, it would not be a surprise if he was in the anti-Japanese underground movement in the Seoul area from 1939 to 1941. Otherwise, his decision to go to Japan seems too sudden.

(conductor anon) delighted you're keen to hear my thoughts! i'm not sure which movement is my favourite, i think on the whole it is probably 2 as well (really aptly named i think!)? but i really like the first movement, and i love the ending (and ofc 4 is timelessly breathtaking). hard to pick tbh! currently i am really enjoying chung myung-whun's interpretation of it, though i occasionally wish his 4th was a tad faster (even if it is appropriately dramatic) and brought out the harp a bit more!
(2/2) but i rly like his opening, which has a v nice good tempo in the radio france orchestra recording (down also to the brilliant trumpetist!). i'm a cello player (mvt 2 has a lovely cello bit), but i'll say mahler 5 has truly opened my eyes to the trumpet. i'd love to learn to play it tho i'm not sure i have the lung capacity for wind instruments. anyway thank you for being so kind! i am also in love with you. you make me want to think more about mahler and learn more about the french horn :)
//
HIIIII sorry about the three thousand year response time I wanted to really listen to the chung myung whun radio france recording!! also I will put a linkie down below for anyone else curious
[Wait I just got done typing this whole thing and I realized you were talking abt mahler 5 for the whole ask and not mahler 2. I was like hmmmm did I really say mahler 2 mvmt 2 was my favorite that's not true?? and i realized wait holy shit... I misinterpreted the first part of your ask 😭😭 so this is totally not the right recording ANDBDJS]
youtube
[Video Description: a filmed orchestral performance of Myung Whun Chung conducting Mahler 2 with the Radio France Philharmonic. /End Description]
I really agree with you that what he did with the opening was really striking! The initial cello "punch" is much less punchy which is really interesting! As I was listening to this I was thinking hmmmm what is the best cello part in mahler 2... I agree w you that movement 2 has a lot of good cello bits!! But I have to say the very beginning is so nice and satisfying for me 🐦🍒 and the recapitulation of course 😇
Also I love his whole conducting demeanor... he is so solemn, like you can REALLY tell that he respects the piece and is giving it an appropriate amount of weight!!
I really enjoyed the horn players ^^ I thought the very high notes were especially clear and delicate!! I will be honest the piccolo made me wince on more than one occasion . but like it's a live recording and there are so many moving parts to get right so I get it
Also his face at the beginning of the third movement after the big timpani moment was so funny. Like is that disapproval?? Did the timpani player mess up?? It sounded good to me 😭
I understand not liking a slower movement 4!! But I have to say I reeeeeeally like a slow mvmt 4... cannot say I have found one that is too slow for me yet. I liked the blending and the brass chorale was soooooo gentle and sweet and drawn out 💕🐝💕🐝💕🐝💕🐝💕🐝
OKAY I'm going to stop putting my mahler 2 stream of consciousness here 💗🐛 thank you for sending in the specific reccomendation I don't often listen to recordings on YouTube which is a shame bc there's a lot to be gained visually I think!!
I definitely agree w you that mahler 5 opened my eyes to trumpet!! And also cello to be honest, I love love the sound of the really high cello bits trading back and forth w other strings in the 4th movement. I would encourage you to try trumpet if you think you'd enjoy it!! Breath support is a skill to be learned not necessarily something you just have or don't have!
Thank you for chatting abt mahler with meeeee 💌🍞💌🍞💌🍞💌🍞 mwah mwah mwah mwah

Cardinal Sin, the Catholic Church, & the Unification Church: Partners in Organized Anti-Communist Violence
▲ Pictured: Cardinal Sin and Rev. Kwak
Background on Cardinal Sin
As soon as the CIA ushered the Unification Church’s forces into the Philippines in 1986, members, supporters, and leaders of the Moon networks met with both President Aquino, the newly installed president who was seen at the time as a champion of the people, and Cardinal Sin, the foremost leader of the largest religious tradition in the Philippines.
From Tyler Hendricks in the Unification News in 1996:
As President of the Unification Church of America, I greet Your Excellency as the leader of a country for which I have a great deal of affection. I spent a week in the Philippines in 1986 as a Director of the Religious Youth Service. The RYS brought young people representing many religions for a summer of interreligious education and social work. In the course of the orientation week we had two special audiences, one with President Aquino and the second with Cardinal Sin. Then the young people spent the summer doing service projects.
They built a bridge between Catholic and Muslim communities in Cavite, Dasmari, as. A second team dug sixteen wells in Aphalite, Pompanga, together with the Aphalite Christian Community. The third team built a university medical center on Iloilo, and planted 10,000 mahogany trees for financial support of the school on the nearby island of Guimenes (I hope the spelling is correct). Since then the RYS has carried on a follow-up project in Pompanga and three other projects, including one to foster religious harmony in Mindanao.
The RYS is an organization co-sponsored by the International Religious Foundation and the International Relief Friendship Foundation, both of which are United Nations NGO's, and both of which were established by Reverend Sun Myung Moon.
According to RYS leader John Gehring, "The participants, coming from such diverse traditions as Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, Christianity, Unificationism, Confucianism, Taoism, and others, were warmly welcomed on their first day by Cardinal Sin, the head of the Catholic Church in the Philippines, at his residence. He offered words of blessing and encouragement, stressing that RYS could help bind the religious communities of the Philippines together. Rev. Kwak addressed the Cardinal, describing the purpose and vision of RYS, and Ron Jordan, representing all the participants, thanked the Cardinal for his enthusiastic support."
Even prior to Marcos ousting through the People Power Revolution in February 1986, Cardinal Sin had made political connections to the Unification Church through the now defunct Washington Institute for Values in Public Policy, a Moon-linked organization.
From Today's World, August 1985:
On May 28, 1985, the Washington Institute for Values in Public Policy hosted a luncheon for Jaime Cardinal Sin, the Archbishop of Manila, Philippines. Cardinal Sin is the highest-ranking representative of the pope and the Catholic Church to the Philippines and the Filipino people. Rev. Chung Hwan Kwak, Mr. Neil Albert Salonen, and Dr. Richard Rubenstein enjoyed an extensive private meeting with His Eminence prior to his presentation at the luncheon of his paper entitled "The Changing Role of the Church in the Philippines Today."
Cardinal Sin went into the need for the Church to support the people of the Philippines in their aspirations for self-determination, in being seen as an equal in the international community, and in being a third way between the leftist guerilla warfare of the New Peoples Army and the bureaucratic, corrupt system, insinuated to be the government under Marcos. Prior to 1985 and the ultimate ousting of Marcos, the Unification Church and its networks had a positive relationship with Marcos and his administration. As the CIA's thinking around the Marcos' rule began to change, as did the Moonies.
Negative media and reports on Chun Doo-Hwan's violent rule in South Korea also pushed the UC to frame Marcos as the anti-communist right going too far. Some Moonies framed Marcos’ administration as the enforcement of righteousness (anti-communism) without humanity and principled love. Chun Doo-hwan was framed to be an anti-communist who ruled more democratically, was not brutal like Marcos, despite his vital role in arresting, torturing, and even massacring countless activists, students, workers, etc. The Moonies did what they could to use the Washington Times and its other media outlets and NGO connections to push these narratives.
As the People Power Revolution descended upon the Philippines, the Unification Church sought to frame the religious forces as those championing liberation, despite their decades of not just compliance with fascist power, but outright partnership and participation in Philippine fascism, feudalism, bureaucrat capitalism, and semi-colonialism.
John Gehring wrote in 2014 about the time, "While tensions rose and the fear of violence grew, the Roman Catholic Prelate, Cardinal Sin, worked hard to keep the movement and the government from openly fighting.” Though there were progressive elements in the Catholic Church who supported the ousting of Marcos, many of these figures joined the movement only after the broad and wide masses were in favor of it.
Cardinal Sin’s legacy from this time, along with the Unification Church’s legacy, cannot be separated from his vocal support of vigilante violence.
From David Kowalewski in Cultism, Insurgency, and Vigilantism in the Philippines:
The Aquino administration encouraged the formation of "Civilian Volunteer Self Defense Organizations" of "vigilantes" as a form of "people power" to defeat the deviance. The Department of Local Government (DLG) and the military were charged with mobilizing, supporting, and controlling the groups. The program to civilianize counterinsurgency was strongly encouraged -- initiated according to some -- by the United States State Department and Central Intelligence Agency as well as private United States organizations (e.g., World Anti-Communist League) supporting the Reagan administration's "low-intensity conflict" strategy against Third World insurgencies. By the end of 1987 some 200 groups with 30,000 members had formed.
The state was joined in its sponsorship of vigilantism by the church establishment. Cardinal Jaime Sin, head Philippine prelate, whose radio broadcasts were greatly influential in Aquino's victory over Marcos, strongly supported the new President. The Cardinal endorsed the vigilantes for their "concern with the welfare of the suffering poor". Joining the Cardinal's endorsement was the Rey. Sun Myong Moon's Unification Church. The "Moonies" were widely criticized by opposition parties, student groups, and other sectors for their intimate relations with the CIA and Reagan's counterinsurgency strategy through its political arm, CAUSA, headed by South Korean Lt. Col. Bo Hi Pak. The Unification Church endorsed vigilantism in the Philippines by means of several seminars and conferences and forged close links with vigilante leaders.

Heugh ok big time spoilers warning for 1175 (and prior ofc) I'm gonna be rambling so don't expect anything analytic 🫵
GOD OK SO. Its been commented on multiple times throughout the novel that the diciples of Mount Hua (sect leader, elders, 5 swords, etc) want to carry some of the burden that Chung Myung carries. Hyun Jong asks him to trust him and not go after the Myriad Man Manor (I think that's what it was called before they formed the big bad alliance....) in the direct aftermath of the attack on the sect (chapters like. 350-420 ish if I'm remembering correctly?). The 5 Swords try to protect him during that final fight at the north sea when he's been buried in rubble, and then they try to support him again in the first yangzte river battle (the one where the 3 year pacification pact came from) and so on and so forth. This is a VERY COMMON THING.
Everytime they manage to get stronger to protect the sect (lifting some burden off of Chung Myung), the enemies get stronger and the situations get worse. They (being primarily the 5 swords + Tang Soso and Hye Yeon) begin to realize that despite getting stronger, Chung Myung is always at the forefront of the battle in the most danger. They haven't had a single major battle where Chung Myung was not present to help if needed. This also brought up the idea that they are indirectly putting Chung Myung in even more danger because he has to focus not only on the battle, but on saving them if needed (this has ALSO been brought up multiple times but i don't want to give examples so).
Now I know that this isn't Mount Hua's fault, they're being thrust into terrible situations with not great timing, but all of this has STRENGTHENED Chung Myung belief that no one but him can protect Mount Hua to the standard needed. (It's very interesting to note that he has ended up on the OPPOSITE side of the spectrum from his previous life, which Chung Myung actually comments on in chapter 1175!!!). Its been mentioned a lot (by that fuck ass monk Bop Jeong and others) that the success of the Heavenly Commrade Alliance lies damn near solely on Chung Myung back. Even Tang Gunak, Meang So, and Seol So Beak themselves admit that they were initially drawn towards CHUNG MYUNG and not towards Mount Hua. Namgung Dowi is a similar ish case, having been drawn to the Heavenly Commrade Alliance by Mount Hua and the Tang clans's actions at Plum Blossom Island (which Chung Myung lead). Long story short, if Chung Myung did not exist in Mount Hua, there would not be an alliance in the first place (which the novel straight up says).
Another concept that's been brought up lately is what exactly is Mount Hua willing to give up in the name of chivalry. Up until now, every single action taken by Mount Hua has had a positive impact on them while also upholding the chivalrous reputation of the sect. THIS IS WHERE CHUNG MYUNGS CURRENT STRIFE IS COMING FROM!!!! At the current moment he doesn't know what direct he wants to push Mount Hua in. Does he tell Shaolin to fuck off (picking the Heavenly Commarade Alliance over joining the 10 Great Sects) and deal with the inevitable consequences of that (reputation hit and more death among not only commoners but amongst Mount Hua diciples) or does he agree to Bop Jeong's plan and risk everything from the past repeating for the sake of chivalry? He is blinded by his indecision, even mentioning in chapter 1174 that if he were faced with the situation Chung Mun faced with Chung Jin (Chung Jin disappearing towards the end of the war), he wouldn't know what to do and he would "let it all slip from his grasp".
Along with this indecisiveness, he's also agonizing over his importance to the alliance. He is now in a position similar to what Chung Mun held in the past, and he's having a difficult time coping with that. Chung Myung rationally understands his importance, going as far as to say that if he were anyone else, he would never let himself go onto the front lines. The issue lies in his survivors guilt. He wouldn't be able to make the decisions needed for victory if he himself wasn't there to be able to prevent any death he could.
Along comes Baek Cheon, who has been one of the main vocalizers for all the things mentioned above. He notices the things Chung Myung tries to hide. There are many, many times where Baek Cheon is one of the ones that knocks some sense into Chung Myung, but the one I really want to focus on is their interaction in chapter 1175. Baek Cheon, despite all the jokes, is the head diciple of the second generation. Chung Myung is his Sajae, his junior brother. He CARES about him. He doesn't like seeing him not act like an insane asshole. He KNOWS Chung Myung, enough to know his habits as well as his fears and motivators.
He uses his knowledge to comfort him in a blunt way by saying that he will outlive Chung Myung. And oh, isn't that heartbreaking? To acknowledge that Chung Myung would rather spend every day in hell than "allow" a diciple of Mount Hua to die before him (again). Baek Cheon says this as an offhand comment, a subtle reassurance without making it a big thing because he KNOWS that's one of the main things driving Chung Myung. Throughout this entire exchange, Chung Myung unintentional image of being a "perfect human" starts to strip away. He reveals to Baek Cheon that he doesn't exactly know why he holds all of this burden, but that he feels he is the only one who can. (Circling back to the guilt he feels due to his inaction 100 years ago).
Towards the end of the chapter, Chung Myung starts joking that he'll be back to normal soon, that he just has a lot on his mind. This signals once again that he is pushing against Baek Cheons silent offer of support. As they sit in silence, Baek Cheon brings up the question that has been eating at the entirety of Mount Hua for a while. He asks if they were stronger, if HE were stronger, would it have lightened his worries? The final sentence of the chapter indicates that Chung Myung doesn't answer this question.
Chung Myung cares so much about Mount Hua that he continually shoulders on more and more responsibilities because to him, that is the only way to atone for his past inaction. I just wish he could see how much Mount Hua cares about him in turn.
#VJFJFJJFJSJF WHY IS THIS SO LONG#ngl guys i lost the idea of what i was writing like halfway through#so it doesnt make. the most sense#i always want to do an in-depth look into BIGA's characterization of chung myung#and how his past interacts with the present#but everytime i think about it i can never quite find the words#ANYWAYS#i had fun writing this so thats all that matters even if it doesnt make any sense to anyone but me#no one gets him like i do fr (jk)#rotmhs#return of the blossoming blade#return of the mount hua sect#rotbb

it is i, 🕯️ anon, back again to flex on how bad i am at matchmaking wassup yo-- i haven't done any assignments rn if you see me online in genshin, no you don't (honestly i'm just afk and i'm writing an article rn while sobbing tf out--)
ANYWAYS, i got my candidates ready here- you probably won't know some of them but oh well it do be like that sometimes-
this matchup is a romantic(?) one i suppose (help i am not good at romantic set ups i just angst help), let's just keep it limited to genshin only. if it were only in genshin, its either.... damn.. cant think of anyone, so i'll just list down the top 3 i could think of.
1. in first place is Dainsleif, yes, i suppose i can spoil you with this one. the passion and the priniciples (and death flags) he has prob got you sobbing on the floor. he is the type of person who would think about debts too???
dain, handing you a lunchbox: you brought me lunch yesterday so i got some of this for you
you, sobbing: how much is that, that looks expensi--
dain: that's homemade and payment for yesterday, pls accept.
in emotional sense (a different way), i dont know how dain reacts to doubts and how he comforts people, does he only use words? use actions? does he inspire you to the point that those doubts are overwhelmed with motivation? no matter what it is, dain is not a heartless man, he will surely be patient with you. he is the type of person who loves you for who you are, no matter what your flaws are, such love so tender and genuine, he would be a gentle lover for sure.
2. the second one isnt a meme okay (yes it is), for some reason i could see you being compatible with gentle ones, and diluc sure fits that criteria, albeit inferior to dain in one rank.
he and dain are almost similar in actions (because i am not creative and my brain cells are spent on my assignments) but he would be a clumsy one. bet you'd be the first (and hopefully his last), he is quite careful not to ruin your relationship because he knows full well that one relationship that is built slowly thru some many years can be destroyed in just one day, and because of how he wants to perfect anything, he would be quite clumsy at that too. diluc is also a patient man (and a sly mfer fatui got no chance) and is quite understanding, hes the type who will surely spoil tf out of you by making something (because you will surely reject anything he buys with mora)
but of course, he has his own baggage to deal with, but its not like it affects your relationship so badly that both of you will feel like you're walking on thin ice. its just there. for angst purposes.
3. because i want chaos: haitham. no more context.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
You think its done? HAHA NO ITS NOT I HAVE FEW MORE--
Yeah like just few more dw??
let's start with someone i bet you'll have a hard time getting along with-- ("aint this a MATCH up??" YEAH and it didnt specify if it should be compatible--) my boi chung myung!
actually, this is a platonic matchup, mainly because i can never see him in a romantic relationship (despite looking like wei wuxian). he is very dedicated to his craft (to the point of self-destruction), very loyal to his sect and has principles he stick to (like a stubborn no thoughts brain empty). he's chaos himself-- even have the nickname mount hua's mad dog (lol) and mfer punches bitches left and right, so you have a 50/50 chance of either becoming his victim (wait thats a 100 percent chance-) or making him worse.
he sounds like the worse match ever because i cant bring him to justice. despite his sharp tongue and rough actions, he is actually the type who cares too much, the type who sacrifices too much (even himself) to prevent losing ANYTHING or ANYONE. he strives to conquer all because he once lost everything (mfer that quote of his made me sob like a baby), if he was your friend, he will be the type who will undoubtedly make you better (even thru uhh violent methods), a great pillar/support, he seems like the type who would try to reach the stars and you'll end up being inspired and influenced to do the same.
also he got grandpa agenda going on lmfao
Okay few more-- phew. Yknow what, lets just summarize it down to make it quick.
1. shen qingqiu! (platonic matchup) he def needs your help, you'll be his "how to survive being tracked down by a yandere", dramatic af, if you two are friends he would be your beta reader and he is not afraid to say the truth-
sadly he is dense as fuck. goodluck. god bless.
2. lloyd fronterra (platonic matchup). if you both are besties then its gonna be the end of the world. enjoy your money making shenanigans. he would def support you plagiarising harry potter in another world. besties? or worsties?
3. baek chun (platonic matchup) idk lol because you need a leash to calm the mad dog down, he is the leash (unfortunately for him), also enemies to besties frfr, punch him in the face frfr, honestly i dont know what im saying anymore??? he is a very nice friend (post-humbled era) (i have more to say about this guy, just say he is 50-80 percent kin of yours, idk how?? its just a feeling-)
4. her <333 because you deserve the best <33
i have so much more but my brain isnt really braining rn oh well guess i'll perish.
also here
not a matchup lmao just him staring at you
(ask referring to this post)
I...
"let's keep it limited in genshin" top ten best lies phitre had ever spoken–
This is a phcking ride to read my bestie. 6 years of friendship with this woman @a-dose-of-phitre. Half a decade + one extra year. Four more years and I'm jumping in a casket while this guy puts wheels on it and let my rotting corpse wander the earth.
Also love how you start with a worstie before the platonic matchups lmfao
Don't know him but based on how you described him I'd definitely be besties with Shen Qingqiu if his hobby is getting tf away from a yandere lmao... And i also need a beta reader. It's a good deal.
Are you sure Lloyd and your besties and we're just mutual friends
"50-80 kin"– alright mfers we finally found a guy ansy can relate to. Hello Baek Chun–
(btw the last sentence made me snort so much mfer. I phcking thought you'd let me be platonic friends with Ayato you lil sht.)
Y'all cant make me soft for dain and then suddenly go "yeah you're not THAT compatible" hdjxjwHEJSJAHAHAHAHWH YOU BEECH–
Dainsleif is such a gentle lover but alas he is not The One ™️😔 even I know that. But I take solace that there's a possibility we'd be besties and that's it lmao
ANSWER ME, PHITRE GIVE ME THE TRUTH–
Edit: yOU BEECH
I DIDN'T REALIZE THE DAIN PIC WAS HIM GETTING KILLED BY MY OC WITH THE PHCKING BROOM AGAIN 💀💀💀💀–
#ansy-stalks#ansy's stalking: phitre <3#you phcking beech#ansy-addendums#fricking crying#am having an identity crisis hAHAHAH–

MINORS DNI
📜🖋️🎀SUPPORT MY KO-FI🎀🖋️📜
chung myung’s pretty face getting sat on by you. his tongue finally latched on your sweet arousal he misses for the whole day. he didn’t even bother hiding his groan, the pleasurable vibrations eliciting a surprised whine from you as he plunges his tongue in that wet heat. shamelessly slurping whilst you buck your hips, the tip of his nose teasing the sweet bundles of nerves you have there. knees landing hesitantly on either chung myung’s head.
having not denied his wishes as the daredevil whispered dirty words next to your ears, stirring your desires as much as he desired you. chung myung gripped the plush of your thighs, sensing your concern to not suffocate him, he would click his tongue if he could but he is too busy eating you out. he specifically asked you to straddle his face, didn’t he? just release all those inhibitions and let him fuck your stress away, his tongue went deeper and deeper until you can’t help but grind on his tongue as you chases your high using him.
oh, does he revel at the suffocation he feels as your thighs encloses around his face, forcibly put all your weight on him, chung myung fucking his tongue on your clenching hole.
he is practically salivating the sweet bliss you have brought on him, going pliant under his stubborn grip. the lower half of his face covered in sticky essence but who cares anyway? you could make him swallow your cum and he wouldn’t complain.
chung myung moves his tongue sloppily, the new sensation pushing the intensity of your pleasure to new heights that you start seeing white flashes behind your eyes each time chung myung eats you messy.
wet squelches echoed around the room, his mouth and tongue dived in to induce your sultry moans. the movements of your hips abruptly stop, a loud moan entering his ears, happily drinking up the cum leaking on your walls. chung myung’s tongue is slow and soft, careful to not overstimulate you, to draw more orgasm from you.
dazed and utterly rendered boneless, you were put on chung myung’s lap as soon as he stops peppering kisses on your inner thighs. he breathes heavily but that wasn’t enough to hinder him from your mouth closing on his own, a shared small moans escaping from the two lovers, your arms sliding over his shoulder to make him closer, to feel his warm body over yours. chung myung's addicting sweet overtaking your senses as he indulges himself to your taste. this moment right now, chung myung wouldn’t have it in another way.

—a tangcheong reincarnation ficlet set during the shaolin tournament arc 👍
»—————————–✄
Part 1 2 3
baek cheon didn't think much of the loud commotion being made in the audience stands as a large family entered the arena.
"huh? what's all that noise over there?" yoon jong voiced out.
the rest of the mount hua disciples turned their heads in the direction yoon jong was pointing at and they watched as people unabashedly stared at the person in the center of the group.
"you missing a cousin or something, samae?" one of the disciples joked.
the man in question looked closer to a tang than he did his own family members who walked beside him. whereas their hair were varying shades of light brown, his was dark and closer to tang soso's own color.
tang soso frowned, narrowing her eyes as she tried to peer at his features which were slightly too far to distinguish properly.
"I don't recall having any cousins in shaolin..." she mutters as yu iseol also tilted her head in question.
the man's gaze sweeped lazily across the arena. even from afar, baek cheon could tell that the man's gaze was contemptuous.
he didn't need to use his qi to enhance his eyesight to know that the gaze that was thrown towards the sect leaders' stand was absolutely scathing.
jo gul scratched his cheek. "he must be the rumored son of the zheng merchant family. see the crest on his robes?"
"what do you know of him?" baek cheon asked. he doesn't really understand why but a part of him felt like he had to be on-guard towards the strange man.
"not much," jo gul winced, "just that he's a bit older than us and that he...mildly poisoned one of the daughters of another family in sichuan."
"..."
they all turned towards tang soso.
"are you sure he's not part-tang or something?" yoon jong asked.
their conversation is abruptly interrupted by loud shouts cheering for shaolin.
the disciples of mount hua shared resolute nods as they began marching forward, letting the praises pouring out from the audience straighten their spines and walk more resolutely.
chung myung seamlessly slipped back into their fold, the money pouches he brought with him noticably emptier than when he had arrived.
it felt as if the cheers for them rang louder than those for shaolin. it was a very ovewhelming feeling and all of them could feel the pressure on their shoulders.
once again, they watch the reliable back of their sajil as chung myung finally sets foot on the stage, gazing up.
the current head of the zheng family was not influenced by the excitement that seemed to radiate from his fellow tournament-goers. rather, his eyes were locked on the face of his elder brother who he had never seen look as emotional as he did now.
there was disbelief on his face. he wore a strange expression which wavered between hope and doubt. unfathomable emotions swam in his eyes.
"ge, is everything alright?" he worriedly asked. "if you wish to leave, we don't have to—"
"no." zheng bo cut him off. "we're staying."
he shared concerned looks with his other siblings, but they silently agreed to let it be.
their eldest brother had always been distant, but he was never unkind to them.
they could never understand where the weight zheng bo seemed to always carry on his shoulders came from, but he never lashed at them.
they had never known zheng bo to be anything other than melancholic, so seeing the way the beginnings of a lively spark enter his eyes...
it was as if they were watching him transform into someone else for a moment.
"hyung...?" zheng bo murmured as he practically threw himself over the railing to get a closer look.
luckily, their youngest sibling, about the same age as the youngest second class disciple of mount hua, managed to pull their eldest brother back by the robe.
"zheng bo, what's gotten into you?" their mother worriedly clutched at him.
a string of incomprehensible muttering escaped zheng bo's lips. "...a descendant? no, he—a wife? no, as if..."
questioning stares were thrown their way from other audience members, but they were quickly distracted by the start of the deciding battle between the two finalists.
it was a battle that no one could have ever expected.
it felt too one-sided and the zheng family, as with the rest of the spectators, found themselves at a complete loss over the practically one-sided battle between shaolin's hye yeon and mount hua's chung myung.
there was heavy and glooming feeling charging the atmosphere. the previous racuous and excited cheers turned into silent feelings of apprehension and confusion.
“this is nothing compared to what mount hua has been through.”
zheng bo let out a pained, heartaching noise.
"ge," the second zheng son started, still lost. "do you know what he's talking about?"
it seemed to him that chung myung was talking about something beyond the prior slow decline of their sect.
zheng bo seemed to be too overcome with his own emotions to answer.
they all turned back their heads to the stage and were graced with the sight of a soft curve of a blade that arched beautifully, tearing apart all the golden winds thrown towards its weilder's way by hye yeon.
"beautiful..." someone in the audience behind them mumbled.
and it truly was a mesmerizing sight to see.
and it became all the more so when plum blossoms pink, an unstoppable multitude, bloomed from chung myung's sword.
tang bo crumpled where he had was standing.
happiness, guilt, and, most of all, /relief/ wrapped themselves around his heart—his heart which, for the longest time, for over three decades, had been hollowed and emptied out of any possible feelings.
"you're here too."
tang bo didn't have to be alone anymore.

"psst-" "...?" "chung myung-ah! come here." He tilted his head at the voice, seeing the head of his senior peeking out of the window. He would've cursed the person out if it were anyone else, to be honest. But, it was his senior, one of the few people in Mount Hua who tolerated and even loved him like a younger brother despite his attitude. He couldn't even see their face, only staring at their eyes with confusion. It was late at night, and everyone was asleep. Why was his senior, the most well-behaved disciple in the entire sect doing outside his window at such a weird time? Surely they're not drunk, or hoping to attempt something strange. His senior wasn't the type to do something like that. ...Or were they...? Reluctantly, he walked closer towards the window, the only source of light in the dark room. Finally, he sees his senior's face, their bright smile evident on their face. They weren't drunk, he could see now. "...?" They only ushered him over to move closer to the window, passing him a box of items once he was deemed close enough. As he looked down upon the mysterious box, they used this opportunity to pat his hair, chuckling softly at the touch of scarred fingers against fluffy hair. They had always wondered, how did he get his hair to look like that? "i hope this makes you happier, sajae." They said, smiling gently. In the midst of the darkness, he felt as if the sun reflected it's rays on his senior's face instead of the moon, for it brought a sense of warmness into his heart in this cold night. His hands held onto the box tightly, as if scared to drop something so sacred to him. For a moment, he felt as if the room had brightened up lightly, as if a person's presence could bring this much light to a place. Before he could even thank them, they had disappeared, leaving behind the fragrance of plum blossoms in the winter, a scent so strong yet so faint at the same time. His eyes slowly trailed to the box in his hands, opening it slowly to reveal beautifully made mooncakes, packed neatly as if the person took great care in their art. A smile graced upon his lips as he took a bite out of the mooncake, feeling the soft yet slightly tender texture of the delicacy he loved so much fill his mouth with joyful goodness. Immediately his day brightened up, and he had forgotten the reason why he was so frustrated even when it was late at night. The salty and sweet taste plagued his senses, and he wondered how his senior knew. However, even if he spent the night awake thinking about it, he would never get a definite answer. After all, it's his senior. Someone who knew how to cheer someone up even in the darkest times.
