ちなみに、ドイツには日本にはない「Hokkaido」というかぼちゃがよく売られてる。 なんでも、ドイツで日本食品の輸入をやってた人が、北海道から持ち帰った種を育て始めたのがはじまりらしい。今ではとてもポピュラー。

欧米の経験になるけど、杏仁豆腐は「日本人がなぜか食べたがる中華デザート」という扱いらしく、日本人の多い地区の日本人がよく来る中華以外には全然なかった。本場では知りません。

ピザのクワトロフォルマッジ自体はイタリアにもあるんですが、ハチミツorメイプルシロップをかけるのは日本だけだと思います。

We arrived back in Kyoto late afternoon. Getting off at my stop Mototanaka, as the sun was going, was so so lovely. I have never walked up my road before in the sunshine, always at night time and usually when it’s raining as that’s the only time I use the train for work, so it made such a nice change. Reminded me once again how beautiful my neighbourhood is!

Saturday 7th January 2017. 13:00 Kyoto Japan.

Never ever did I think I’d be spending my 24th birthday in Japan away from all my family and friends, but here I am. This time of year is usually pretty full on back home.. Christmas, New Year and my birthday all within the space of less than 3 weeks. But I have thoroughly enjoyed spending these occasions in a completely different environment and completely out of the norm to what I would usually be doing back home. Of course I miss my friends and family like mad but experiencing all of this here has been mind-blowing. 

My room was so hot when I woke up, on again yet another glorious day in paradise. It must’ve been about 10/11 degrees outside but when the sun is shining on you it feels 10 times hotter. I was cycling around in just a short sleeved shirt on the 7th January lol, mad. But even this temperature was definitely above average for this time of year.

I got up, got dressed and cycled down my hill to Mototanaka station where I met my friend Ellen. She’d just travelled up from Osaka so we dumped her stuff at my house and cycled to my favourite cafe. Ate lunch, drank beer, cycled back home along the river and got ready for my birthday night out! I didn’t take my camera out with me as I was planning on getting super drunk, I did have my film Yashica T4 on me, which I’m hoping to get developed ASAP. Obviously I’ll be posting those images on here when I do! So the above image is the only one I’ve got from my birthday. The view from my bedroom on the warmest day in January ever lol.

Weekenders Coffee, Mototanaka, KYOTO. 

Given I was in Kyoto for a conference recently, I couldn't resist paying Weekenders a visit. Much love for this laid-back cafe with friendly and deeply knowledgeable staff.

There was a bus that ran from Kibune village to the train station but we decided to do the 25/30 minute instead as it was such a pleasant evening. The walk along the river was so peaceful, so much greenery and so much wildlife! We reached the station and jumped on the mountain train back to Mototanaka.
