yipppi !!! Summer is here it is time to get fried by the sun and stay awake in the forgiving embrace of the night. However be careful. Of the visions from the inbetween realm.
#the things I keep seeing inbetween that transition between awake and sleep are overwhelming#0/10 do not like them#Its like “ohno”#“I am being put in an alarming amount of situations”#except imagine those situations being sometimes auditory visual motory sometimes all of them

12 days of Christmas: movie marathon
“You’ve never seen it? It’s a classic!”
At this point, so close to Christmas, almost every school is on break; the streets are crowded as you and Shiro make your way in the general direction of a convenience store, feeling too lazy to cook your own dinner tonight. Tokyo gets colder than you’d expected— even bundled up, you’ve got your hands shoved deep in your pockets, coat collar popped against the wind. “Hey,” you hum without turning around, “I’m new at this whole existing thing, remember?”
Shiro almost stops in his tracks— almost, because the ebb of the crowd continues to shoulder him forward— with an “Oh, that’s right.” It’s something all the Summoners have to be reminded of on occasion; you fit so perfectly into Shiro’s life, it’s like you’ve always been there.
Something in a shop window catches your eye and you pause, staring intently at something through the glass that he can’t see yet. “—wait, isn’t that the exact same movie you were just talking about?”
Shiro’s reflection appears next to yours as he examines the shop window. It’s a DVD store; although outdated, he vaguely remembers it always being here, so he assumes it’s well-established enough, loved by the locals. “I told you it’s a classic— it’s always on shelves around Christmas.” With a gloved finger he points to a second disc case in the window display. “That one is good too— ah, and the special effects in that one there were revolutionary at the time—”
At some point your gaze shifts from the shop display to Shiro’s profile. His face is bright as he talks— he’s always like this when he’s interested in something, and you’re convinced you could listen to his soft voice forever.
That settles it.
“Are you doing anything tonight?”
Your question startles Shiro out of his monologue. He tilts his head and glances over at you, blinking snowflakes from his long lashes. “I was just planning on starting my history report early…” his voice trails off; he clearly recognizes something in your facial expression, and knows he’s not getting out of this. “—but I can make time, if you want.”
“Good.” The Christmas money from Mr. Mononobe has been burning a hole in your pocket anyways.
You bought the DVD. An entire stack of Christmas movies, actually; Shiro had protested, but you’d just grabbed every disc he made the mistake of looking at. Admittedly, maybe you should’ve been a bit less enthusiastic— it’s long past midnight now, and the two of you aren’t even halfway done.
Picking at your long-cold takeout— Shiro had valiantly fended you off when you’d tried to dip your chopsticks into his rice too— you turn to where Shiro is curled up in bed at your side, the movie reflecting off his glasses in the dark. “Hey,” you hiss, as if this were a movie theater instead of a dorm room, “what was going on in this one?”
“This was your idea, and you’re not even watching,” Shiro huffs. He’s never been good at faking things; underneath the facade, you can hear the fondness that always tinges his voice when you’re involved. “This is the one where he has to stop them from stealing Christmas.”
“I thought we watched that one already?”
“No, that was the other one, where they had to stop from cancelling Christmas. Don’t get sauce on my blankets.”
You use your chopsticks to fling a green onion in his direction and Shiro squeaks.
He is right, as usual; the marathon had been entirely your idea, but you’re struggling to keep your eyes open at this point. Your eyelids feel heavy, gritty, and the bright colors of the movie are all blending together. Even Shiro’s voice is getting more and more distant as he casually explains the plot for the fifth time, knowing you still won’t listen. In contrast to the winter weather outside, Shiro’s dorm room is nice and cozy. The bed is soft, the blankets are warm, the voices of the movie are soothing— it’s probably okay to just rest your eyes for awhile.
“And then he puts together this whole scheme to rescue the—” Shiro’s interrupted when your head tilts backwards, dropping comfortably on his shoulder. His eyes get wide in the dark; normally he’d bluster, say something about this being improper, scold you for not watching the movies you’d spent your money on.
But you’re asleep.
As best he can without disturbing you, Shiro moves your takeout container far enough that you hopefully won’t knock it over in your sleep. He tugs the blankets up a bit too, but when you shift in mild protest, he leaves that alone and grabs the remote instead. It’s rare that he gets a quiet moment alone with you, after all.
