The MOTHMAN of Point Pleasant. In West Virginia folklore, the Mothman is a creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from November 15, 1966, to December 15, 1967. This print measures 12" x 17" untrimmed, signed in silver and delivered in a reinforced black tube! (Link in bio via website! USE CODE CRYPTO for 30% OFF!). The first newspaper report was published in the Point Pleasant Register dated November 16, 1966, titled "Couples See Man-Sized Bird ... Creature ... Something". The national press soon picked up the reports and helped spread the story across the United States. The Mothman was introduced to a wider audience by Gray Barker in 1970 and was later popularized by John Keel in his 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies, claiming that there were supernatural events related to the sightings, and a connection to the collapse of the Silver Bridge. The book was later adapted into a 2002 film, starring Richard Gere. An annual festival in Point Pleasant is devoted to the Mothman legend. The true events regarding the case of 'The Mothman of Point Pleasant' have since been covered in a full length documentary film by 'Small Town Monsters', of which this image was licensed for use as the film's poster. THE SILVER BRIDGE COLLAPSE - Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Gallipolis, Ohio. On December 15, 1967, the U.S. Route 35 Silver Bridge (built in 1928) lost structural integrity and collapsed into the Ohio River, resulting in the deaths of 46 people. This tragic accident became connected to the local legend (and popular cultural myth) of the cryptid “Mothman,” a mysterious flying being who was allegedly seen by hundreds in the area throughout the year and, seemingly, disappeared after the the bridge disaster. The notion of the Mothman being a “harbinger of doom” stems from this accident. National bridge inspection standards were soon instituted following this tragic event - one of the worst in America’s History. The replacement Silver Memorial Bridge to Ohio was constructed down-river in 1969. On September 15th and 16th, 2018, the sleeping town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia will be hosting the 17th Annual Mothman Festival. Many events have been planned for this year’s Mothman Festival, including a Very, very special event held by none other than Bethesda Games to commemorate the appearance of the Mothman Museum in their latest installment of the post-apocalyptic rpg franchise, “Fallout 76”!

Many guest speakers will be here in Point Pleasant sharing experiences, alleged encounters with the unexplained, and answering questions about the “cases” they specialize in!

Also, if you do happen to be there, and DO want to meet me in person, you’ll be a lucky duck. I will be posting updates as I scour the streets of Point Pleasant looking for new additions to my personal library.
