The MOTHMAN of Point Pleasant. In West Virginia folklore, the Mothman is a creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from November 15, 1966, to December 15, 1967. The first newspaper report was published in the Point Pleasant Register dated November 16, 1966, titled "Couples See Man-Sized Bird ... Creature ... Something". The national press soon picked up the reports and helped spread the story across the United States. The Mothman was introduced to a wider audience by Gray Barker in 1970 and was later popularized by John Keel in his 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies, claiming that there were supernatural events related to the sightings, and a connection to the collapse of the Silver Bridge. The book was later adapted into a 2002 film, starring Richard Gere. An annual festival in Point Pleasant is devoted to the Mothman legend. The true events regarding the case of 'The Mothman of Point Pleasant' have since been covered in a full length documentary film by 'Small Town Monsters', of which this image was licensed for use as the film's poster. Meet Mothi, an #anxious #bug-creature that ~mostly~ keeps to themself, but also enjoys good company… occasionally. ✨ 🌃🦋 🌙 💡 SO I did an art challenge with my friend @mchiladas to make our own custom @sanrio #ocs and somewhere along the way mine became a #sanriosona lol 🎨🐱🎀 The design started as a bug with the little buggy mouth and then just grew from there: a tidy, somewhat nervous lil guy. 👾🙍💦 Also, the sweater and shirt make a little angry face that I imagine changes with different poses and moods, and maybe can talk to Mothi in their head. Kind of an alter ego/personality of sorts, more smug and crass. 😈👿 This character is totally not inspired by anyone or anything at all, nope, not at all, ya hear! 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠 They also like #coffee with cream and glowing screens, but hate public speaking, clutter, and green peppers. 🌙"Welcome to Midnight Moth Mondays.🌠 Live from Point Pleasant, West Virginia, it's me, Aurelian, your friendly neighborhood Moth Man."🦋 This image, lighting & all, has been in my head for a very long Time. I am SO, so happy the visuals turned out exsctly as I imagined, especially in traditional! Aurelian began as a Twitch handle I headcanoned for the psychic Indrid Mothman, but I decided the concept was too much fun, so I reworked the idea into a Mothman persona of sorts, if you will. (Aurelian is an old-fashioned name for an expert in moths & butterflies.) Aurelian is the Twitch name for a mysterious humanoid man who seems to stream himself speedrunning various video games with ease. His IP address hails from Point Pleasant, WV, where numerous Mothman sightings have occurred. Many of Aurelian's streamers have noted that he takes inspiration from the cryptid legend in a unique way for a net persona. In reality, the runner is the unnamed Moth Man, of an otherwordly race of moth folk that are rumored to be numerous. He openly states that he was in Point Pleasant during the sightings, but concedes it's also very possible to have spotted another mothfolk. Aurelian uses low quality webcam footage to keep viewers guessing if he's a well-made puppet or a guy gifted at making prosthetics/special effects. He took up speedrunning thanks to his buglike reflexes.
