TOY SOLDIERS I saw this for sale in a shop and was disappointed but not surprised. When will we change our image of the police from guns and a badge to one where they help the community. Surely this image is from the Wild West and not the 21st Century. The quickest on the draw. Reading the headlines today I see a story of a 14 year old girl shot by police in Los Angeles. The teen was in a changing room when the police started blasting away at a suspect holding a bicycle lock. It is sad how much money America has invested in tasers yet obviously not enough in police training. A century ago, Ulysses was banned in the USA but I'd throw the book at them for this senseless violence that killed two. How many Americans are getting guns and ammo for Christmas or toys like the one I have pictured? We have to stop playing around and COP on. #bannedbooks #ulysses #censorship #gunsinamerica #2a #secondamendment #defundthepolice #accountability #toygun #toyguns #mothersagainstsenselesskillings #guns #mothersagainstgunviolence #toyguns #mothersagainstpolicebrutality #gunvictims #newspaperheadlines #thoughtsandprayers https://www.instagram.com/p/CX3_zAVoZZ3/?utm_medium=tumblr

For #internationalwomensday I would like to highlight the strong women of Mother’s Against Gun Violence from Syracuse,NY. When people say the community doesn’t care about its community and the gun violence that happens in them, they erase the work that these women, who have lost their children to gun violence, and others do. . Mothers Against Gun Violence is a coalition of family members who have lost loved ones at the hands of firearm brutality. They spread their message through speaking out, holding vigils for those who have passed and by being a constant presence in the community to remind those around them just how precious life is. . #photojournalism #portraits #makeportraits #mothersagainstgunviolence #syracuse #community #internationalwomensday #iwd2018

On October of 2013, Chuck Pitts was stabbed and killed as he was leaving a party. Seven months later on May 11, 2014, his step brother Mahari Pullins was shot while walking home with a friend. It’s been 3 years since that fateful Mother’s day morning when Yara Williams received the phone call that the younger Pullins was murdered. She remembers how protective Mahari would be of his brothers and the love he shared with the rest of the family. Yara is now a member of Mother’s Against Gun Violence, an organization helping families of victims of gun violence through their crisis. The women also organize vigils on behalf of the families and advocate to end violence in the city of Syracuse. Yara mourns the loss of her sons daily and speaks out with the mothers in hopes that other parents don’t have to experience the pain she’s suffered. Mahari’s death remains unsolved. #photojournalism #portraits #makepictures #syracuse #mothersagainstgunviolence #gunviolence #stoptheviolence #unsolvedmurders #fallenangel

On July 2nd, 2005, John and Rita Fredette's youngest son, Joshua was murdered just hours after celebrating Rita's birthday. July 2nd was supposed to be a joyous day for the Ferdette's. They celebrate his life everyday and even though it has been 11 years, their pain has not gone away. John and Rita are members of Mother's Against Violence, a group committed to help bring a change not only to the violence that continues to plague Syracuse, but also committed to make a change to the social economic crisis that continues to contribute to the violence in Syracuse. #photojournalism #portraits #syracuse #communityfirst #gunviolence #stoptheviolence #change #mothersagainstgunviolence
