I am 99% sure Zalemite women (in the manga) don’t get periods. They’re sterilized as part of the initiation, so it doesn’t really make sense for them to still have periods.

Even so, old habits die hard, on both ends. He keeps the fidgeting to flexing one hand. He schools his face blank when he speaks, even when bile rises in his throat. The force is like a buzz in his ears.

He speaks as if he hasn't just waltzed up to this woman, with these tattoos, and this look to him, so blatantly obvious as a Nightbrother. Feral hopes his funeral has more subtly.

People don't like it when someone is 'friends' with a Jedi. But most people are wise to ignore that fact about Ros Lai now that they knew she doesn't need to get all that close to make them writhe on the ground, clutching at their throats while choking on darkened blood. So, repercussions in Hutt Space aren't something she worries about. Because of her own abilities and because Ziro the Hutt had owed her a favor when she was finally let out of prison, and that means she is to be left alone by thugs and smugglers alike.

This man doesn't look like neither a thug nor a smuggler.

Maroon eyes turned away from her glass and towards him, peeking at him curiously through strands of curly, bright red hair that managed to free themselves from the confines of her purple cloak's hood. A Nightbrother. No doubt about that. So far away from Dathomir.

Then again, so is she.

She takes a deep breath, almost like she's breathing him in. Though it isn't necessary to do so to know exactly what branch of the witches she comes from, the tattoos and the way he speaks to her —with underlying hesitation, like he thinks he shouldn't— give it away. One of Mother Talzin's men.

Even Ros Lai —as isolated as she'd been— had known about how Mother Talzin and her witches liked to keep their men. It was, as far as she'd heard, not something her own mother and sisters had agreed with. Not because of any appreciation for their more sturdy counterparts, but because to Mother Zalem, men just hadn't been allowed to be a part of their tribe. The sisters left and returned bearing child. If it was a girl, she would become a witch; if it was a boy, he would be sold or traded with the other clans– sometimes even adopted, as from what she remembered at least one clan did regard the men as equal. If it was like Ros Lai, it would be left to die in the jungle.

Dathomir life is tough. It's why it isn't common to see others from her world around the galaxy. A witch and a Nightbrother walk into a cantina. The butt of the joke is out there, somewhere.

"Depends on who asks, and what they want to know." she shifted to face him fully. "And what they have to offer in exchange."

Zayne Zatara

⁃ 20 years old, older brother of Zatanna, Zelena and Zabrina Zatara

⁃ He’s friends with Onawa and Jonah, they’re gonna be a Justice League trio now. They’re all mom/dad friends and are actually responsible. They watch over the JLI

⁃ He’s super protective of his sisters, they’ve all always gotten along really well so he makes sure that Zabrina being a villain doesn’t tear apart the family at all (which it doesn’t, they’re all cool with it)

⁃ And Zelena’s his favorite but don’t tell the other two-

⁃ But seriously it’s obvious, they hang out the most. Which is fine, cause Zatanna and Zabrina are the more mischievous ones so they’ll go out while those two losers stay in

⁃ Zayne is of course a magic user as well, his mother is actually Hela. He uses necromancy the most, so him and Zabrina practice that together

⁃ He also has a cat named Zamantha (like Samantha from Bewitched) (so the Zatara’s cats names are Zamantha, Oz and Zalem and I love that)

Where Was I When This Gem Came Out?

So first, let me say...I was next much of a anime fangirl. And this movie few past my reviewing radar...it came out the same time Aquaman came out, which I was blown away from (the graphics were breathtaking! Anyone who can animate water correctly deserves their share of Scooby Snacks).

I did not watch Alita Battle Angel until a week ago when I was surfing through HBO thinking, I need to see a movie I have not seen before and ABA came up on my Selected For You page. So, I gave it a change.

At first, I was skeptical, but I thought: Give it a shot...you thought Moana would be a tire fire and now it is in your movie collection.

I watched the first scene of the 23rd Century Fox logo turn steampunk and saw the massive city of Zalem...but we did not stay long as we descended to the Scrapyard that surrounds the city of Iron (once called Star City before the Terraforming Wars).

Here we meet our main characters Yoko (Gally)(Alita) and Ido. Ido repairs Alita (name for his daughter although in comic it was a male stray cat) and places her in his daughter’s cyber body (although it was the body of a prostitute in the comics) and we follow Alita as she remembers nothing of her past (thanks to atmospheric drop at the end of the Seige of Zalem) as she discovers her life and befriends a boy named Hugo (Yugo in comics).

The fight between Grewishka was a visual delight and the flashbacks to the time Alita was a URM Berserker was something that sent me to the comics to learn. We see an amazing fight scene between a full cyborg named Zapan and Alita as she takes on all the elite Hunter-Warriors and right on que, Grewishka returns (I like Grewishka’s character much better then the comics villain Makaku who was downright deviant!). Ironically, Grewishka was a character from the comics, a Motorball character who rarely lost, but sounded too close to Aydakatti (who was 99 Motorball player and battled Alita for the number, but demoted to 88 when Alita used her Panzer Kunst on him).

One of my favorite items to study is Alita’s Damascus sword and her berserker body. The sword is said to come from Zalem, but in the comics, it was forged in Iron City.

Oddly, the sword seemed to be made especially for Alita as it bonds with her Berserker Body, which was made by URM for the Terraforming Wars. But we never see this bond in the flashbacks or comics (as she carries a gun).

Throughout the movie, we are told that Zalem must be destroyed (told by Gelda, a URM Berserker and mother-figure to Gally). She then places her blame and anger on Nova who we know very little about in the movie, but in the comic, Desty Nova is seen as a ‘mad scientist’ and primary foe and ally of Alita as he builds her a new and powerful body called Imagnos after she destroys the Berserker Body (what a shame).

So, will we see a Alita Battle Angel 2?

It is hard to say.

The movie was way before its prime, received damaging reviews from critics and fell short in box office ratings. But a year later, it is on the rise...people like me are awaking to Alita and saying: Darn! This would have been a stellar movie to see if the theater.

Hopefully by 2021-2022, we might know.

Untill then, we can only commit and join the rest of the AR2 units and become TUNED’s new Alita’s Army

Wings of Fire Music Inspiration

Hey everyone! Thought I’d pop back on for a quick little post. My process of writing head cannons and doing artwork are heavily inspired by music. I’m going to go ahead and list my playlists for each tribe and some others for plot-lines. Probably will reference them further on down the line. I’m sure many of you will not share my taste in music and that’s cool. But, in case any of you were curious or will be curious, here is all the music I use as inspiration for my works. And this is a quick post that I had a little time to do between my projects. I’m halfway done with two and soon will be able to get back to my regular artwork and writings. I will probably keep this up to date as more tracks are added.

It’s been two months since I last did a redraw of my OCs (I rly need to get back on the ball with that oops), but I was in an OC mood, so I used the opportunity to redesign Hatter Dobhail, who’s next in line after Lokka!!

Bio: Hatter is the son of Carroll Dobhail (his father, who was a hatter/hat maker) and Dymphna Dobhail (his mother, who was a housewife). While his family wasn’t exactly rich, they were a happy family; until one day, their house mysteriously caught on fire when Hatter was only five years old. He was the only survivor thanks to...well, he’s not sure, even to this day. A mysterious force saved him from the inferno just in time, and when he woke up the next day from falling unconscious, he saw strange markings under his eyes that he didn’t have before. He didn’t think about it much, since he was only five at the time. The only thing he has left of his family are his hat (his father was going to save it for his 16th birthday, but he had Hatter grab it before he escaped the burning inferno that was his house), and an old picture of the three of them together that Hatter keeps safe in a little compartment in the top of his hat. To this day, he has no idea how the fire started all those years ago, but he has a feeling it was one of the townsfolk, since his mother was considered a witch by most of the town due to her odd mannerisms and behaviors.

With no family to claim him, he was soon sent to the local orphanage, where he was outcast by the other kids due to the rumors spread about his mother, thinking it applied to him as well. After a few weeks, he was sitting near the fence that bordered the orphanage, and he saw a little girl with pale blue hair come up to him and compliment his hat. Not really used to someone willingly wanting to talk to him, he fumbled out a compliment about her hair. The girl giggled, and introduced herself as Danika. Hatter also introduced himself, and after that day, Danika came by almost every day to visit Hatter, and they would talk the entire time Hatter had outside time. This went on for a few years, and with Danika’s help, he managed to escape the orphanage when he was about ten years old, and he an Danika ran away together.

They managed to find an old farmhouse owned by an elderly man, who took them in and provided them food, shelter, and even work. Two years later, Hatter was inside helping the old man with some chores when he suddenly heard Danika screaming outside. He rushed out and saw that one of the bulls was attacking her, and she was on the ground getting trampled on by the bull. Hatter, filled with so much rage, started running towards the bull, but he blacked out soon afterwards. Once he came to, he saw the bull a few feet away, dead and with three huge slash marks across its side. There was blood on him, but not on his hands. He heard Danika crying and saw that her entire left side was covered in gashes and bruises, and he immediately rushed her inside the house to be given first aid by the elderly man. He successfully tended to Danika’s wounds, and Hatter stayed with her until she was well enough to walk. She was covered in scars now, and she cried because she didn’t think she was pretty anymore, but Hatter thought she was just as beautiful as she was before, and the two grew even closer that day.

They lived with the elderly man until he died three years later of old age, and he left his farmhouse to Hatter and Danika, where they have been living together until they were sixteen.

Fun Facts

Hatter’s last name, Dobhail, means “unlucky; unfortunate” in Gaelic.

The demon that’s bonded to him is a Siamese Twin Demon named Left and Right; Left is the more impulsive one, whereas Right is the more sensible one. They bonded to Hatter when he almost died in the house fire, but neither of them know how they found Hatter in the first place. Hatter’s memory of that day is extremely blurry, and it’s a void in Left and Right’s memories, so they hope to figure it out eventually.

Hatter likes to drink, but he doesn’t drink in excess; he likes to drink for fun, mostly. The only alcohol he refuses to drink is beer and wine, because he doesn’t like how they taste.

His favorite alcohol is rum.

Danika is his depended and fp.

He’s doesn’t really understand most English slang and jokes due to his autism and the fact that English isn’t his first language (his first language is Gaelic, and he learned English from Danika and the elderly man who took them in), but he catches on pretty quickly.

He has little to no volume control, and he doesn’t know he’s being too loud unless someone tells him; the only person he actively tries to control his volume around is Danika, since loud noises startle her very easily, and he doesn’t want to unintentionally scare her.

He doesn’t like being touched by people he’s not close to, and will flinch away if a stranger so much as brushes up against his shoulder.

Hatter has psychosis, so he will have the occasional “episode”. When these happen, he gets extremely anxious and paranoid, and he’ll spout word salad and act jittery and nervous. If they get bad enough, he’ll start hallucinating and screaming and he’ll try to run away from where he’s currently at, but Danika so far has been the only one to successfully calm him down from any episodes he has.

He’ll also have a fairly reoccurring nightmare where dark, shadow-y blobs will try to drown him in darkness and rob him of all his senses. These can turn into night terrors if Hatter’s not woken up soon enough, and Dankia’s usually the one to wake him up if she hears him having a nightmare.

He’s able to calm himself down from his episodes or his nightmares, but it only happens every once in a while.

Danika is the only person Hatter actively acts affectionate with, and even then it’s usually nothing more than hand-holding and hugging with the occasional peck on the cheek, and sometimes even cuddling if he’s comfortable enough that day.

He has the attention span of a squirrel, but Danika’s been helping him with that.

Hatter is also very expressive with his body language, and likes to stim by tapping his hands and feet on stuff, jiggling his leg, pacing, and chewing on stuff; Danika bought him a special chewing necklace so that he doesn’t chew holes through his shirt or bite his nails to stim. The pendant of the chewy necklace is a white skull and crossbones, and he usually keeps it in his hat, since he doesn’t really like wearing necklaces.

Danika was the one who painted his nails, since she thought it would help him not bite them as much; it worked for the most part, along with the chewy necklace.

He’s not a huge fan of keeping up his personal appearance (as long as he’s clean and at least looks decent, he’s doesn’t really care otherwise), but he refuses to leave the house until he does his eyeliner.

He didn’t know how to read in English until he was ten; Danika and the elderly man taught him how to read in English along with speaking it.

He considers Left and Right as his annoying siblings.

Him and Zalem are actually pen pals, and Zalem was the one who helped Hatter and Danika move to America.

Headcanons - Kycina

⚠️ TW: implied SA ⚠️

Since the character of Talzin is based on Zalem from Legends, and her relationship with Kycina in the earlier material is very similar to that of Zalem and her daughter, Ros Lai, I have the headcanon that —like with Ros Lai— Kycina's father was a Jedi human man who was captured and enslaved by Talzin, and with who she conceived Kycina. Later, she killed him by absorbing his life force to make herself more powerful. Kycina only got to speak to him when she was really young. She'd sneak away from Talzin to see him, curious of meeting a Jedi who also happened to be a man, since young nightsisters don't interact with nightbrothers at all, and was unaware that he was her father until after he was killed, but she always believed him to be a kind man who didn't fit the descriptions her mother gave of the Jedi and of men in general.

Finding out Talzin killed her father to make herself more powerful was the beginning of the resentment and distrust Kycina feels towards Talzin, and why she didn't trust Maul to be safe anywhere where Talzin might be able to reach him.

And here we have my fourth oldest OC, Lokka Vroomen!! Like Koso, her design is more simple, but it fits her design rly well!! It’s been over two years since I last drew her, so it was fun drawing her again, like how it’s been with my other OCs that I’ve redesigned!!

Bio: Lokka is the daughter of the most infamous mafia boss in all of Holland, Felix Vroomen, and an unknown Indonesian woman. He had a one night stand with Lokka’s mother, but her mother left her at her father’s doorstep when she was only a few weeks old. Her father raised her along with his mafia goons, and it was the only family she knew for most of her life. As she got older, though, she grew to dislike her father’s line of work more and more, and when she learned she was the next in line to be in charge of the family mafia business, she rebelled by running away to America when she was fifteen. Using her father’s money and the skills she learned from him, she was able to make herself a legal citizen and emancipate herself in America and go to school, since up until then she was home-schooled by her father’s personally-hired tutors. She also managed to get a job as a part-time model before she started her fashion business, but she still does modeling from time to time because she thinks it’s fun.

She first met Koso on the first day of high school in their sophomore year, where they shared a science and history class together. She was drawn to his nonchalant and mysterious nature, and he was drawn to how casually she acted around him and actually respected his boundaries and mental stuff. They never poked or pried into each other’s histories, and they just let that information surface when they both felt it appropriate. They formed a mutual friendship, and Koso was the first friend Lokka made in America. She met Shard and Zalem soon after she met Koso, however, because he’s almost always around them. She soon befriended them as well, an considers the Main Trio a close-knit part of her personal social circle.

Fun Facts

She started dating Koso in their senior year, much to everyone’s surprise, since no one ever thought they’d go past just being friends. 

Since she’s only lived in America for three years, she has a fairly noticeable Dutch accent, since it was her first language; she learned English from her father and her old tutors, since it was necessary to be bilingual in the mafia business and whatnot.

Lokka is the only one that can fluster Koso the quickest; anyone else that tries usually fails spectacularly.

She’s the reason that Koso’s more comfortable with expressing PDA, even if it’s pretty lowkey.

She runs a fashion and makeup line specifically for LGBT+ people and plus-sized people, and she designs all of the clothes herself.

She’s also a part-time model, which she’s been doing since she was sixteen. Even though she has a very successful fashion and makeup line now, she still likes to model from time to time because she still finds it rly enjoyable.

She steals money from her father’s bank accounts to donate to charities and whatnot back in her home country and in America, giving her the nickname “Robin Hood” in both countries.

She also does this with slimy CEOs of companies she’ll pretend to make deals with, and she’ll hack into their bank accounts to do with their money what she does with her father’s money; since she has such important connections to the mafia, nobody ever tries to sabotage her once they find out what she’s done to their funds.

The reason why Lokka’s father never tries to stop her is because he loves her too much and he wants to at least try and reconnect with her somehow, even though she wants nothing to do with him.

She’s wanted to be a fashion designer since she was a little girl, since fashion has been her main special interest for as long as she can remember along with makeup.

She likes wearing a wide variety of clothes, but since she’s a pressure-stimmer, she likes to wear form-fitting clothes the most as a way of pressure stimming.

The choker she wears is also a way she stims, since she likes how it feels around her neck. It’s also one of her biggest comfort objects, and she refuses to go anywhere without it on her person; she has different-colored versions of it for different outfits as well, but her red one is her personal favorite out of all of them.

She’s highly trained in hand-to-hand combat and self-defense due to where and how she grew up, so she can very easily shut down anyone trying to sneak up on her and attack her.

It’s unknown where she got her cat-like abilities and night vision from, but since her father doesn’t have any of those abilities, she assumes she got them from her mother.

Lokka has thought about the possibility of reconnecting with her mother, but has yet to decide whether or not that would end up doing more harm than good.

Introducing my third oldest OC, Koso Starkwolff!! His design is more simple compared to Shard and Zalem’s designs, but he was still fun to draw again!!

Bio: Koso is the son of a German army engineer (his dad) and a bipolar Japanese photographer (his mom). He also has a little sister named Cagome who’s ten years his junior and has tachyarrhythmia, a condition in which the heart has irregular or skipping heartbeats at times, and the kind she has makes her heart beat faster than it’s suppose to on occasion. His little sister’s condition and his mother’s journey with her bipolar disorder inspired him to become a doctor and study medicine and psychology as he got older, and work in the field of medicine as an adult. Koso also has OCD, and he tends to repetitively clean and organize his stuff and stuff around the house, and even other peoples’ stuff if he has permission to do so. He sometimes feels bad about it, though, because he feels like he’s just a walking OCD stereotype, but Shard and Zalem have helped him gain more self-confidence about it and whatnot!!

He had a pretty average childhood, but he had to help out his mom and take care of his sister when his dad wasn’t home and his mom was having a downswing period. Other than that, though, he grew up with a very loving family and was treated very well by his parents.

Koso is also a werewolf, as are the rest of the DMAB people in his bloodline. DFAB people can only be carriers, and if they are werewolves, it’s because the parents both carried the recessive gene for the werewolf gene. The form is dormant until the person hits puberty, and they transform into their werewolf form under the full moon no matter what until the person turns 18, and after that they can transform into their werewolf form whenever they want, but only at night. With this, the form is weakest during the new moon, and strongest during the full moon. When he’s in that form, he becomes illiterate, but he still holds most of his personality and intelligence from his human form, but with a layer of animalistic instincts.

He met Shard and Zalem when they were all little kids, since his parents used to be college buddies with Shard and Zalem’s parents, and they’re both the longest-lasting friendships he’s had with anyone. He also met his girlfriend, Lokka, in their sophomore year of high school, but they didn’t start dating until their senior year.

Fun Facts

Koso has Ophidiophobia (fear of snakes) and Claustrophobia (fear of tight and enclosed spaces). The first one stems from when he accidentally watched part of a documentary on venomous snakes as a little kid and it traumatized him ever since, and the second one stems from when he accidentally locked himself in the washing machine when he was trying to get something out of there and the door snagged and locked on itself; he was home alone so no one could get him out until his mother came home two hours later and heard him crying inside the washing machine.

He tends to keep up a stoic and no-nonsense facade due to his autism making it difficult for him to express his emotions at times and empathize with others, but he’s actually a huge socially-awkward sweetheart once you get past his tough exterior.

Lokka, Shard, and Hatter are the few people that know just how to push his buttons and make him lose his temper and break his aloof facade.

Even though him and Shard and Hatter tend to butt heads with each other a lot, he still considers them good friends and knows they mean no ill will against him when they mess with him like that.

Because of his werewolf bloodline, he’s allergic to most chocolate except for white chocolate, since it contains no traces of cocoa. If he eats something with chocolate in it, he’ll have an allergic reaction similar to food poisoning that lasts for a few days.

He loves coffee, tho, and his favorite kind are pumpkin spice lattes (he ignores the fact that it’s considered “white girl coffee” bc gdi it’s good coffee and he enjoys it so who cares).

His favorite music genre is classical music and smooth jazz because it helps him focus and calm down if he’s having an OCD and/or anxiety episode. He also really likes use them as auditory stims.

His favorite stims are listening to music and chewing on a special stim stick he has that doesn’t get spit everywhere, which is why he likes chewing on that the most more than other things.

He’s basically the Mom Friend in the sense that he makes sure everyone’s eating/drinking water/showering/etc.

He’s also very touch adverse, but he’ll let you touch him without asking for permission if he trusts you enough and considers you a close enough friend.

Koso talks very formally and whatnot, and that’s mostly due to the fact that he reads a lot of high-level books and whatnot; he’s also really good at picking up sarcasm, but he struggles with learning slang terms.

The only person that’s able to fluster him the easiest is Lokka; she’s also one of the few people he feels comfortable enough with expressing PDA, even if it’s pretty lowkey.

Bio: Zalem is the son of a Jamaican angelic forest nymph and a Canadian-French psychologist, and his family was very supportive of him being trans and whatnot!! He’s known he was a boy since he was about five or six years old. He inherited his florakinesis from his mother, but his older twin brother and sister don’t have those powers. His mother has a human form that she takes most of the time, but her nymph form is a being made of plants and tropical flowers with big, beautiful, dark green wings. It’s unknown whether Zalem has a form like this, since he’s only half-nymph and he’s never tried to conjure up a form like that in the past, but he did inherit his wings from his mother!! His older siblings also have wings, but they’re able to hide them with illusionary nymph magic, which Zalem doesn’t have full control over just yet; this is why Zalem’s wings are always out instead of being hidden like his mother’s and his siblings’!! While they don’t need to keep their identities hidden, since magical creatures and the like are common-set in this universe, angelic forest nymphs are still pretty rare. No one’s tried to kidnap or hurt Zalem because of his lineage yet, but his mother always tells him to stay safe about it. He’s also known Shard and Koso since they were all little kids, since their parents were all college buddies!!

Fun Facts

Zalem is plantkin, but mostly with roses and forests!!

Despite how petite he looks, Zalem is actually quite strong!! This is because his wings weigh about 10-15 pounds each, which means he’s constantly carrying about 20-30 pounds on his shoulders, so he has a surprising amount of upper body strength.

His nymph magic also makes it easier to walk around with his wings out and not have sore muscles and whatnot!!

His wingspan from base to tip is around 6-7 feet long.

He doesn't like swimming because if his wings get wet, they get drastically heavy enough to the point that he basically becomes immobile until they dry up enough so that he can walk around. He'll also sink like a stone if he's in the water unless he wears protective gear over his wings.

Concerning his powers, Zalem can control any and all plants, and he’s able to heal faster than the average person (not like Wolverine levels of fast, though; like if he broke his arm, it would heal in about half the time it would take for a regular person’s broken arm to heal). He can also heal others, but he usually tends to stick to wounds that are mild to moderately severe, since healing major wounds takes a lot of energy and magic out of him.

Zalem is about 90% of Shard’s impulse control, and he’s also the one that manages to convince Shard not to do stupid shit; he’s successful about 95% of the time.

Zalem is very shy and soft-spoken, especially around strangers, but he’s really sweet and kind once he warms up to you!! He’s a huge bleeding heart that’s not afraid to show his emotions. He’s also very sensitive and has a huge soft spot for plants and animals.

He’s very empathetic and compassionate, but he’s not very good at confrontation, so he’s acted very passive for most of his life. Shard and Koso are helping him gain self-confidence, though, and he’s getting better at standing up for himself and speaking up about stuff that bothers him, which he’s really happy about!!

Along with this, Zalem is also really skittish and he scares pretty easily, and his wings poof up when he gets startled. He also tends to cry at the drop of a hat.

He loves food and he loves to eat, mostly because he’s almost always hungry due to flying taking a lot of energy and whatnot. His mom is also a fantastic cook and that helped fuel his love of food.

He has the biggest fattest crush on Shard, but he’s too damn shy to say anything to her, even though they’ve been friends ever since they were little kids.

Animals absolutely adore him, and he thinks it’s probably because of his nymph lineage along with his naturally optimistic and positive energy.

He loves gardening and anything to do with gardening.

His favorite stims are singing and rubbing things he finds pleasing to the touch, like stones and soft things and whatnot. He also likes to fidget with the pendant on his necklace when he’s in the mood to fidget.

When he’s excited enough, he’ll flap both his hands and his wings.
