I feel like people kinda heavily misinterpret Baizhus relationship to Qiqi. Like, they make it akin to Dottore and Collei, where it's "evil doctor and his experiments" + "the test subject he has locked in a cage". And as a Baizhu AND Qiqi fan, it's just kinda, huh.

Canonically, Baizhu seems to have complicated things with Qiqi. On one hand, he tries to emotionally distance himself from her in Qiqi's stories, making their relationship come off as a one-note "you help me, I help you" relationship, where Qiqi assists him and Baizhu just gives her a place to go. Where he can't bring himself to cancel her orders because he is unable to say the words she needs to hear with straight meanings.

On the other, he still does treat her well, like he would with any child. He still takes a parental role with her. He does her hair, him and Changsheng take on very active roles with her memory, with Changsheng even openly deciding to go to her when she does her stretches, he protects her from Hu Tao. The both of them are very much aware of how their connection started, even Qiqi is aware - but I feel like there is so much more nuance to what they are.

He's not a Dottore. Where he keeps Qiqi hostage in his pharmacy and only uses her when he needs to study her. But so many people seem to make him out like he IS Dottore, or that he actively hurts Qiqi, when Qiqi herself is very accepting of Baizhu and his actions, not in a Stolkholm Syndrome way, but she genuinely seems to accept Baizhu as a caretaker. She never makes commentary that implies Baizhu is this horrible person, because if anything, Qiqi probably sees more of Baizhus own struggles than anyone ever has and understands vaguely what he's trying to do. She knows he's physically weak, she even says that she's actually stronger than he is. She even canonically swaps their roles whenever Baizhus chronic illnesses flare up, where she cares for him instead of the other way around.

If whatever testing he does actually harms Qiqi, when it's likely he's actually just studying the talismans (because he uses talismans to bring back the man in his story quest), then I'd get it, but he's not abusive to Qiqi.

He's unable to get past his wants, yes. He wants a way to make himself live longer so Changsheng can live longer, and he doesn't want to pass the same curse down for more and more generations just to hurt more young people down the line, that's the biggest reason why he first took Qiqi in - and I feel like that makes him less emotionally available, and that's partially why his claims of loving Qiqi when she most needs it doesn't seem like enough. Because as far as I remember from his story quest, while he's very determined and confident that he's going to be the last standing Doctor in his line of medicine, he also is fully aware of the fact he could drop any day now, Changsheng even teased him about this in his latest Birthday Art. He doesn't enjoy feeling vulnerable and having people see him that way, he actively avoids telling people about his condition. That's why he hides in his room at the pharmacy when he isn't doing good. Consequently, that affects how he interacts with Qiqi. There's a barrier between them where he tries to strictly see her as a means to keep going with his plans to end the contract with himself, but I definitely think there's also a generalized boundary on trying to let people into his circle because he wants to avoid the vulnerability that comes with it. So he's unable to make himself see Qiqi as anything outside of "The child I took in that I keep alive while I study the talismans on her body".

I absolutely do think they're a familial relationship that's built initially on an emotionally distant idea. But I don't think Baizhu would just kick her to the curb when he achieves his goal, either. There's still a sense of attachment and care there, and I think when that emotional boundary is gone, he'd be able to better help Qiqi.

He's not Dottore. Qiqi isn't locked in his basement. He doesn't abuse Qiqi. They both have a ridiculous amount of nuance in how they perceive each other.

I think Baizhu absolutely would be able to be a parent to her when those hangups are complete and done. He's not an evil man, he's just a man afraid of dying, and afraid of ruining more lives when he ultimately passes (as it's more likely he'd give Changsheng off to Herbalist Gui rather than Qiqi if he's forced to keep her contract going, in my opinion. As unfortunately her memory would make it to where she'd be a bad option to take over something as big as this.), and he knows Qiqi is the best person who'd be able to help him avoid outcomes that'd hurt him, Changsheng and so many other lines of people. And Qiqi herself vaguely knows that, too, even if she doesn't remember or know the intricacies of it.

If she was actually hateful and afraid of Baizhu, then she'd treat him like she treats Hu Tao, where she actively avoids and even comes off as hostile. But Baizhu is still in her box of normal people, where she forgets them, but she has a bunch of notes helping her remember. If she hated him, she'd remember him immediately and know to avoid him. Because you can't tell me Cloud Retainer wouldn't take her in if Yaoyao brought it up to her

5. tv show of the year?

the answer i gave on my other blog before rbing the ask game here was that it's between the terror and true detective but because i watched td in february and its been more of a constant throughout 2024 then im going with that. this was literally the year of rust cohle

9. best month for you this year?

🤔🤔🤔 probably June tbh. i spent a lot of time with my bf that month, and hung out with some of my closest friends before they moved out of the country. also went to evia for a week and that was beautiful. also it was a good time for my hyperfixations, we watched two of us in head world, i rewatched after hours and it's now my favourite movie ever. yeah june was good #pride

12. talk about a new friend you made this year

Well there are many online friends and mutuals i could mention here so if you see this and you are someone i met this year then shout out to you i love you. offline i became really good friends with this couple i play frisbee with on saturdays, the man is from germany and the woman is from mexico, and they're crazy and some of the nicest people ive ever met, they're nomads who teach at an international online school, they're sooo intelligent and friendly and warm, they invite me to go on mountain walks with them, they're both incredibly funny and if they were ever looking for a third i would be the first to volunteer. Basically .

What does switching feel like to you, if you switch at all? 

we don't have a system name since we can't really decide on one we all like, plus lina is absolutely mad when it comes to changing aesthetics. she does it like every day. in the past i think she's had like 30 different system name ideas so we went with nothing to make it easier

switching feels very strange, i will admit that! at least for me. it's a little bit like those moments before you fall asleep in a way, but more agressive? it's dizzy and sometimes a real headache. like being physically shaken out of front and 'waking up' - if that makes sense - in a different place
