Cherry, Cherry 🍒 Chapter 1 🍒
“Austin”
pre-outbreak! AU!Joel Miller x f!Reader
Word count: 2K
Summary: new to the city, you befriend Sarah, and in a time of need you befriend her dad Joel
WARNINGS: this particular chapter is safe for everyone to read, but future chapters will contain smut; mild cursing, little bit of flirting; age gap (reader is 18, Joel is 35); reader is tomboyish but otherwise no race specified and will not be throughout the series; until otherwise specified, this story takes place in the summer of 2003 and is AU with no outbreak, no use of y/n.
Author's Note: this was the first fic I ever wrote, after months of lurking on AO3. It's one of my favorites to write and probably my most popular on AO3, so I'm bringing her to the party. In this particular chapter Joel fixes a sink, and I did minimal investigating into the world of plumbing, so obviously any mistakes are just gonna be there.
Series Masterlist
Austin is quiet. So much quieter than where you came from: Houston, the city on the bayou, where there's always something fun to do. Not that Austin is without its charm, it just kind of feels like living on the moon after the hustle and bustle of your hometown, the fourth largest city in the US. But the people are friendly, the vibes are mellow, and you soon begin to feel at home.
Soon you'll be starting college at the University of Texas, a school you've had your eye on since fifth grade. Your mom, overprotective but meaning well, allowed you to stay with your older cousin Sofia rather than living on campus. And you're excited about it because even with a roommate, this is your first time on your own, away from home, about to really live your life.
School starts in a couple months, so in the meantime you get a job at a new Starbucks in town, providing you with a little spending money. The first few days are a blur, making drinks, learning the register. But it keeps you busy, A few times a week a younger group of kids come in, ordering the cheapest things on the menu. One of them, a girl 13 or 14 years old, approaches the counter. She studies the overhead menu with an air of seriousness. "What's in a frappuccino?" she asks.
"Um, coffee, espresso, milk, ice, and syrup blended together, basically. Comes with whipped cream on top. I could give you one to try," you offer, as your manager is out that day.
"Sure," the girl answers eagerly.
You make the cold, frothy drink and hand it to her. "I'm still pretty new at this, so if you hate it, I'm sorry," you joke.
She smiles and walks back to her friends, sipping the frapp.
You work until evening and pick up some fast food on the way home, Getting out of the car with your food you lean back against the vehicle, stretching a little, trying to wake yourself up a bit. Then you hear the sound of a truck coming up the driveway next door and the engine shutting off. There are a couple of voices you hear as the people begin to exit the truck.
"Hey, she's the one who gave me the free coffee today," you hear, and though it likely isn't meant for you to hear, you glance over and see the young girl from earlier today, climbing out of the truck. From around the driver's side you see a man, mid-thirties, tall, well-built, a black t-shirt clinging to his torso. Dirtied jeans and work boots complete his attire. It takes a moment before you realize he's looking at you.
Immediately you glance back at the girl, obviously his daughter. "Hey," you smile and give a quick, awkward wave. She waves back politely and he gives a curt nod and quick wave. They make their way up the front porch and you hear his gruff voice: "You had coffee? Great, now you'll be bouncin' off the walls all evenin'," before the door closes behind them.
"Guess I met my neighbors," you mutter, making your way inside as well.
Over the next few days the girl, who you now know as Sarah Miller, comes to Starbucks, ordering the same frapp every time. "Don't tell your dad I'm giving you all this caffeine," you tell her, hiding a smirk.
Sometimes you give her a ride home from the cafe, though she claims to use the bus now and then. You come to see that Sarah is a lot more mature than you were at her age. You hang out from time to time, swim in your backyard pool, go to the mall, and every time you drop her off you catch a glimpse of her dad, always a figure in the background. You exchange a wave or polite smile and move on.
It's your day off, a Sunday. You intend to spend the day lounging, watching TV. Maybe Sarah will stop by. After making a quick breakfast for yourself you do the dishes. When you're finished, you realize the class ring you'd set on the counter is gone, likely washed down the sink. "Damn!" you exclaim, and text Sofia, who has just left for work.
Go next door and ask Mr. Miller if he can take a look and get it out. He's helped around the house before your cousin replies.
You sigh and put the phone down.
You're a little hesitant going to speak to him. His truck is in the driveway so you know he's home. You knock on the door, feeling self-conscious about your first interaction with him, and Mr. Miller opens the door.
"Good morning," you introduce yourself. "I'm Sarah's friend.. from next door."
"Nice to meet ya, I'm Joel Miller." He extends a calloused hand and you shake it. You've always assumed him to be a man who does hard work for a living, but in your first time seeing him up close you admire his tousled, dark brown hair, his deep brown eyes that seem serious. "What can I do for ya?" he asks in his gentle Texan drawl.
You smile. "Well, I was told you're pretty handy around the house, and I lost my ring in the sink just now." You chuckle at your mistake. "Would it be possible for you to come over and take a look?" You feel really shy about asking this of a man you barely know.
He takes a moment to think, clears his throat, raises his brow. "I suppose I could stop by." His tone is gruff but his manner seems warm enough. "I'll give it a shot. I'm no plumber, but I'll see what I can do." He shrugs.
You smile and sigh with relief. "Of course. I mean, even you just checking it out would be a big help.. whenever you can stop by I'll be here." You don't want to make demands on his time.
"All right.. I'm not doin' much right now, so I could swing 'round if you like. Just let me grab my toolbox."
Once inside, with minimal conversation Joel gets on the floor, under the sink, and gets to work. You wait nearby, trying not to hover, but also wanting to be available in case he needs anything. Plus he's good looking. You watch as he works. His shirt rides up, revealing his torso, and a hint of the waistband of his underwear. Your eyes wander lower until you force them away. To distract yourself you start putting things away in the cupboard.
"Sarah tells me you're new to Austin," he says as he works.
"Yeah, I'm actually from Houston. I'm starting UT in the fall, and staying with my cousin in the meantime. I take it you know Sofia?"
"I do. She's nice. I keep an eye on her place when she's away. Even when you're there."
You mean to say something in reply, maybe 'thank you' but you're thinking about him keeping a protective watch over your home while you're inside, unaware.
"So you're starting university? How old are ya?" he asks.
Something about his question makes you feel like a deer in headlights. "I'll be nineteen in September. On the twenty-sixth."
You can almost hear the smile in his voice. "No shit? That's my birthday. Except I'm far from nineteen. Small world, ain't it?"
"Yeah," you say, sneaking another glance at his torso.
"What're you studyin'?"
"English," you answer, excited to talk about it. "More specifically Literature. I want to write, and maybe one day work at a huge publishing house."
You hear Joel give a grunt. "What do you write?"
"Poetry sometimes, short stories, I have a few ideas for novels."
Another grunt. "You don't look like the type.. the writer type.. no offense."
"What type do I look like?" Your heart races as you realize he's categorized you already.
He peeks out from under the sink and his eyes fix on you in a way that makes you shiver. "I don't know yet. But you're young. Maybe you're the rebellious type." He goes back to work.
You sit on the floor, your back against the fridge opposite him. "How am I the rebellious type to you?"
He's quiet, and you see the gleam of his eyes from where he's under the sink. "Haven't quite figured it out yet.."
You can tell he's having fun with this, and there's a vibration in the air, a palpable chord struck, and you wonder if he feels it too.
"Anything I can do? Feeling kinda helpless over here," you chuckle.
"Just stay out of the way," his voice is more gruff than maybe he intends. Frowning, his eyes focus on an item lodged in the P-trap. He reaches in and pulls out your ring. It's covered in gunk and grime but you recognize it immediately.
"Oh shit! Thank you..." It's your class ring. 'Class of 2003' is engraved on the side, with a princess cut sapphire on top. You put it aside to clean it later.
Joel smirks. "No problem."
"I really owe you one."
"I dunno about that. Just don't go throwin' away your valuable stuff next time, okay?" He's teasing, almost playful.
You laugh "Okay.. hey I'm working at the cafe tomorrow. If you come by I could get you a free coffee." You put the offer out there, testing the waters though you aren't sure why.
"Free coffee? Careful, girl, between giving away free stuff to me and Sarah, you're gonna run Starbucks out of business," he grins. "But yeah, I might have to stop by."
You walk him out, even though Joel says it's not necessary, but you can tell he enjoys your company. "I guess I'll be seeing you around Joel.. Mr. Miller."
He stifles a chuckle. There's a touch of amusement in the way he speaks to you, but he hides it behind a warm, open expression. "Call me Joel. No need to be so formal around me."
"If my mom was here she'd say I was being disrespectful, calling you by your first name." You can't help a little blush.
"I won't complain about respect," he smiles again.
"She's pretty protective of me," you describe your living situation, your freedom that is being given in increments.
"Well your mom might've done you a favor there." Joel looks out past your front porch. "That's probably a wise decision, ya know? What about your dad? He ok with you living far from home?"
You shake your head. "He's not.. really in the picture. My parents divorced about five years ago. My dad went up north, Minnesota I think, and I haven't seen him since.." You feel a little vulnerable revealing this.
Joel's brow furrows and his expression darkens. You wonder if he's thinking about Sarah. You don't know much about her mother and haven't felt okay to ask. "I'm sorry to hear that. Are you all right?"
You shrug. "I guess so. I've managed this long without him.." You give a smile that doesn't reach your eyes. "I shouldn't be bothering you with all this.."
"No problem, I don't mind listenin'. Do me a favor," he says suddenly. "Be careful out there, okay?"
Something about this catches you off guard. "Of course I will."
He smiles. "Good. I'll see you at the cafe tomorrow," he phrases it like a hopeful question.
"Bright and early," you say, feeling a few butterflies in your stomach.
He laughs and nods. "Til then."
You watch him leave and though you cringe at how young, foolish, childish you must appear to him, you can't deny that you feel something, even for a brief moment. Maybe it's nothing. But something about him sticks with you, an odd feeling in your chest. But it's just a dumb, knee-jerk reaction. He has a family, he's twice your age. You're focused on school and your future. Joel Miller is the last person you should be thinking about...
...right?

Play Pretend
Pairing: Actor!Ty Shaw x Female Agent Reader Genre: Fluff, humour, drama Warnings: Some smut and curse words Rating: 18+ Notes: - This time I wanted to write about another Boyd character, Ty Shaw from the 2022 movie 'Vengeance'. - The story is set in an alternative universe, where Ty is an actor who does romantic comedies - Thank you @jessamydreams for the main idea and Dax @ruflirtingwithme for the southern euphemisms 💕💕
Ty Shaw, the charming actor, has hired you as his agent and assistant. One day he was invited to a wedding. Since he was single and didn't want to go alone, he asked you to play his girlfriend
Despite becoming a popular actor, Tyler Clayton Shaw remained the nice guy he always was. Born and raised in Texas, Ty has always valued family and his mom taught him to always respect women. He liked hamburgers, especially when they came from a fast food restaurant called ’Whataburger’, and he also liked conspiracy theories. People told him that he had both the looks and the talent to be an actor. Ty himself toyed with the idea several times, and finally decided to move to New York to find an agent and go to auditions. The plan worked and soon after he became the new heartthrob of romantic comedies.
Unfortunately, however, poor Ty has had a hard time lately. His sister, Abilene died last year, and now his girlfriend broke up with him a few weeks ago. In addition to all this, his career began to decline and the good roles avoided him. Ty was so distraught by these that he decided to retire from filming for a while. He didn't leave his house and didn't answer the phone to anyone except his mother or grandmother. This went on for a few months until one day Ty decided: he would return to acting, but this time he wanted more dramatic roles. He fired his old agent and moved to Los Angeles.
You were sitting in front of your computer as you just uploaded your resume to a job search site. You worked as an agent and assistant in Hollywood and now you were looking for a new job. Your most recent client was a talented, young actress who was suddenly overtaken by popularity and unfortunately, that came at a price. She went to clubs to party more than to work on sets. At first you tried to help her, but even after several requests she refused to change so you quitted. You hoped that your new client would be a much more mature and responsible person.
You didn't have to wait long, a few days later your phone rang.
"Hello! Am I talking to Y/N?” asked a pleasant male voice with a southern accent.
"Yes, it's me."
"Great! My name is Ty Shaw.” the name was familiar to you. "I recently moved here from New York and I'm looking for a new agent. I read your resume and called to ask if you would work for me. You don't have to answer now, I'd like to meet in person before that." he said kindly. You agreed and decided on where the meeting should be.
The meeting took place in a fancy restaurant, which was popular among celebrities. Ty told you about his career and why he moved to Los Angeles, and you told him about your past clients. You found him likable. In fact, even a handsome guy. No wonder that fans were so into him. He was tall, blond, and blue-eyed - like the prince in the fairy tale, only in person. In addition, all this was accompanied by a deep, sexy voice... but stop it right there! Your job was to take care of his acting career, you weren't allowed to think about other things.
So you started working for him. You called several directors and producers to let you know if they know of any drama projects, because your client was looking for just such opportunities. Until there was nothing interesting, Ty started to workout again and paid more attention to his inner peace, because deep inside he still couldn't move on from the bad things that previously happened to him. Over time he opened up to you and told you what hurt his soul. You listened to him and gave him advice. You not only looked for good roles for him, but you paid attention to him as a person and he appreciated that.
When there was something that caught his interest, you called the director and went to the meeting with Ty. He was considered for one of the lead roles in a yet-untitled family drama, which would be a great opportunity for him to make a comeback. Filming will start in a few months, and Ty had time to immerse himself in the script and prepare for the role.
Lately, you've realized that you're not just co-workers anymore, but friends. Ty often told you about his childhood in Texas and his family, sometimes he was explaining you wild conspiracy theories. You liked it that he was so honest and sweet with you. Of course, just like all celebrities, Ty also went to parties, but with responsibility, because the paparazzi were everywhere and he didn't want to bring shame on himself and his family by being photographed in a drunken state. You were very happy about this.
One day when Ty got home after swimming in the ocean, he found an envelope in his mailbox. Official and film stuff was sent to your office, personal letters went to Ty. Inside the envelope was an invitation: it turned out that his childhood best friend, Gerry was getting married in the Bahamas. Ty whistled as he read the text with a tasteful font.
"Wedding on an island? Look at that! Gerry, things turned out well for ya!" he said approvingly as he ran a hand through his hair and entered his house. It suddenly dawned on him that he hadn't seen Gerry for a long time, but Gerry must have read about him on some celeb gossip website and knew about his breakup. Shit! Everyone will go with their partner, and he didn't have anyone. Ty didn't want to be pitied for being single. He had to figure something out: who could he take with him? He looked at the names in his phone and caught his eyes on yours. It's true that you were his agent, but at the same time, you were also his good friend. He thought about what it would be like if he asked you to play his girlfriend.
In the late afternoon, you were in the kitchen putting the dirty dishes and cutlery into the dishwasher when the bell rang. You went outside and saw Ty.
"Hi! What's up?" you asked as you let him in and invited him into your apartment.
"Nothing special. I mean…the thing is…well…” Ty was visibly embarrassed, searching for words. "I was invited to my childhood friend's wedding."
"That’s great! And where will it be?” you asked as you went back to clean up. You didn't leave it there just because he was present.
"In the Bahamas." Ty replied, rocking himself back and forth slightly in confusion.
"Wow! Then it will be very nice! And who are you taking with you?” you asked. Only after a few seconds of pause Ty spoke.
"Well, that's why I came. I was thinking what if… well… if you pretended to be my girlfriend.” Hearing the request, the glass almost fell out of your hand.
"What?" you couldn't believe your ears. In your career, you have never been asked by a client to do something like this.
"You can say no, I would completely understand it. I could look for someone else."
"No, it's not that, it's just that I'm your agent and I don't know if this is a good idea."
"Look, let's just pretend that we're together and after that we can go back to the old ways." Ty said, somewhat relieved.
"Well, if you insist on it, then fine, I'll pretend I'm your girlfriend. But no funny business!” Ty put his hand over his heart.
"I promise I'll be a gentleman the entire time, ma'am."
"Okay then. Now that you're my “boyfriend”, in return, tomorrow, you have to come look at clothes with me for the wedding." you told him with a grin. Ty rolled his eyes and smiled.
So that's how you became Ty Shaw's new girlfriend and you hoped that you would give an authentic performance. And then, what trouble can come out of this? You go and have a good time, that's all.
To get used to each other, you arrived on the island a week before the wedding and stayed in an elegant hotel room. The furniture in the room and the bathroom were decorated in white and cream colors, and the balcony provided a magnificent view of the blue ocean. You unpacked and looked around.
"This is breathtakingly beautiful!" you said leaning back on the bed.
"It is. This is the most beautiful hotel room I have ever been in.” he said and sat next to you on the bed. You closed your eyes and rested for a few minutes, because you were exhausted from the flight. Ty looked at you in silence, admiring your beauty. For a moment, it was as if he felt something for you…
You opened your eyes and sat up.
"What shall we do?" you asked him.
"I think we should go and eat at a restaurant and then have a good night's sleep. We'll see Gerry and his family tomorrow.”
"Okay."
You went out for dinner then Ty signed autographs and took selfies with some fans. After returning to your room, you quickly brushed your teeth, had a shower and put on your oversized t-shirt and panties combo.
"I'm done, you can go now." you said to Ty who was sitting on the sofa waiting his turn.
"I’ll go then." he said while looking at your nice legs. For a moment, just for fun, he imagined what could be under your t-shirt...
"Where do you want to sleep?" you asked him, jolting him back to reality.
"Well, uh, the sofa will be fine for me, you just sleep in the bed." he replied scratching his head in confusion.
"Sure?"
"Sure."
You packed away your used clothes and were preparing for a new set for tomorrow, when Ty took off his shirt and flashed you his sexy, naked upper body. As much as you liked the sight, you tried to stare at him unobtrusively. He's your client! The sentence echoed in your head. Ty went into the bathroom and you got into bed and turned on the TV until you both fell asleep.
You woke up in the middle of the night and went to Ty. You woke him up softly. You took off your t-shirt and leaned in to kiss him. A little later you and him were rolling naked on the bed...
Your phone's alarm went off. You turned it off and went back to bed for a few more minutes. You buried your face in your hands. You had a very sexy dream last night that seemed quite real. You couldn't help it because Ty was a very attractive guy. But even then, you were already embarrassed by the thought of how you would be able to look him in the eye after this.
In the coming days, you met Gerry and his future wife, Vanessa, their relatives and the other guests. Fortunately, you played the boyfriend and girlfriend with convincing authenticity, and everyone believed that you were a couple in love. Meanwhile, you and Ty sometimes went for a walk on the beach, hand in hand, and to avoid the fans at the restaurant, you took dinner up to your room. After a few days, you both felt as if you had been in a relationship for a while. You laughed a lot and debated various interesting and less interesting theories. In addition to these, of course, sex was also discussed and you learned a few intimate things about each other.
When you went swimming in the ocean, you put on your sexiest bikini. "Lord have mercy!" Ty said to himself. While you were happily swimming, he started to fantasize...He imagined kissing your neck and untying your binding top and bottom, and then you would make love on the beach...You often hinted at naughty things and looked at each other's bodies when you had the chance. Although you were still sleeping in the bed and he was still sleeping on the sofa, the sexual tension between you was obvious.
Three days before the wedding, you went partying at one of the local clubs. You danced a lot and drank tequila. When you were no longer thirsty, you asked Ty to teach you some southern euphemisms.
” Good Golly Miss Molly! I’m bein' two sheets to the wind.”
"What does that mean?"
"It means that I'm fucking drunk! Hehe!” Ty said laughing so hard he almost fell off the bar stool.
"Say more of these!" you pleaded.
"What's that, sweetheart? You likin’ the southern style? Okay, listen: Bless yer heart. It can mean good, but it can also mean fuck you.”
"Oh. Then I'll pay attention when I say it."
"There is also: To be six ways from Sunday. It means my brain is so scattered it's thinking six ways from Sunday or I got so much to do, I'm just six ways from Sunday.”
"These are so good!" you told him biting your lip. As a result of the drink, his accent came out even more, which you found very sexy.
"Right?" Ty asked and looked into your eyes before grabbing your shoulder. "I think it's time..hehe..to go back to the ho..tel."
You somehow managed to get back to your room. You didn't turn on the light because it would have disturbed your eyes and then the moonlight illuminated the room just enough.
"I think... I'll go and take a shower." you said and were about to head to the bathroom when Ty grabbed your arm and pulled you close. You looked deeply into each other's eyes. Your heart started beating faster than it should. Emboldened by the alcohol, Ty kissed you as an experiment. You closed your eyes and felt his soft lips on yours. When Ty felt you weren't protesting, he held you closer to him and you tilted your head a little to the side so you could kiss each other more passionately. You stopped and pulled your clothes off each other. Not long after, you found yourself naked in bed. Ty started kissing your breasts, licking your nipples. This made you moan out loud and he took that as encouragement and went lower. He gently bit your thighs and then started to pleasure you with his tongue in your most intimate part. It was so good and he was doing it so well that you started to squirm under him and grip the sheets wildly. When you were wet enough, Ty stopped.
"I'll bring a condom, don't go anywhere!" he said enthusiactically.
"I won’t." you said and laughed.
Ty came back and tore the condom open with his teeth, put it on him and leaned over you. He kissed you and carefully placed himself inside you. You imagined him to be just like this... You scratched his back while he moved his hips with wild thrusting movements. You had such a crazy good time that you were surprised that the bed didn't break. You've wanted this ever since you met him and now your wish has finally come true...
The next day you woke up with a hangover and a headache. Before you got out of bed, you saw your crumpled clothes on the floor and you looked behind you to see Ty lying on his stomach and snoring loudly. This was already suspicious to you, then you looked under your covers and saw that you were naked...
Oh God, no.
The realization sobered you up almost immediately, although your head still hurt. What happened last night? You had a couple of drinks and laughed a lot, then you got back to your room and... well, exactly what you thought happened.
You felt terrible, you felt like you made a mistake.
You got out of bed and looked for painkillers, while Ty slowly regained consciousness. He turned on his back and opened his eyes.
"Hey! What are you doing?” he asked lazily. You didn't dare to answer him. You took the medicine and pretended to pack in your bag in your embarrassement. When you heard Ty swearing softly to himself, you felt nervous. As embarrassing as it was, you had to settle things. You walked over to him and sat on the edge of the bed.
"My head hurts like hell! Wait a minute? Why am I naked and what are my clothes doing on the floor...and yours?" he asked as he slowly scanned the room with his eyes before returning to you. "Did we…?"
"Yes. I'm afraid. Look, this shouldn't have happened.”
"Fuck no! Fuck!" Ty said angrily as he got out of bed. "No! This shouldn't have happened! Just because we pretend to be a couple, we shouldn't have done it!"
"We drank too much that night and we both lost control." you tried to explain the situation. Ty tried to say something but couldn't find the words. You just looked at each other in silence for a few minutes, then he spoke.
"You're right. We were both drunk and then... As embarrassing as it is, let's try to pretend like nothing happened."
"It won't be that easy." you told him between deep sighs.
Another few seconds of silence followed.
"You know what? I think it would be better if I went to another room until Saturday, so that I could clear my head and think about us. Will we still be able to maintain our working relationship and friendship after this?" he asked with sad eyes. You nodded, you also thought it would be better if you separated for a while. Ty also took painkillers, showered, and then called the reception to ask for another room. He gathered his belongings and left.
You didn't see him until the day of the wedding. You were trying to think about what to do next. It is certain that you can no longer regard each other as mere friends. You hoped Ty wouldn't think of firing you. The thought felt like a punch in the stomach.
Saturday has finally come. You wore a peach-colored dress with straps, because the invitation stipulated that the guests should wear brightly colored clothes. You went to the beach, almost everyone was already there. Until the ceremony started, you admired the wonderful decorations and flowers, while you chatted a little with the people you met during the week.
"Where is your boyfriend?" asked one of the bride's friends. You had to come up with something fast.
"Well, um. He still had a few phone calls to make, but he'll be here soon." you replied with a forced grin. Once everyone had arrived and taken their seats, the ceremony began, but Ty was still nowhere to be seen. You were just starting to worry when luckily he appeared and sat next to you.
"Am I late?" he asked, adjusting his cufflinks.
"No, it's just beginning." you answered You took a closer look at him. He looked so good in his elegant suit that it made your heart flutter. Feelings swirled inside you. You wanted Ty to be there with you and not. You wanted him, but at the same time you didn't. You enviously looked at Gerry and Vanessa, the happiness on their faces and sighed sadly.
You tried to have a good time at the wedding party, the delicious food and drinks made you forget your bad mood for a while. You talked to Gerry's mom and you saw Ty talking to several women. As you watched him cheerfully chatting with them, you didn't like the sight, in fact, you were almost jealous. To overcome this feeling, you quickly went to the bar to have a drink and then looked for a good guy to dance with. You found a dance partner in one of Gerry's colleagues. He was very nice and couldn't help but compliment you on how pretty you were. While you were dancing, you noticed Ty, who was also dancing with a woman he was talking to earlier. He was looking at you intensely, as if he wanted to annoy you.
A little later, you sat at one of the tables and looked at your phone. A slow song started playing and Ty walked over to you and held out his hand.
"May I ask you for a dance?" he asked you like a southern gentleman. You nodded, put down the phone and gave him your hand. He led you to the dance floor and gently put his arm around your waist. You started swaying to the slow tune.
"I forgot to say, but you look beautiful."
"Thanks, others have already said it." you replied somewhat sarcastically. Ty could feel that you were angry.
"Look. I would like to apologize for requesting another room and disappearing for a while. I thought about the two of us and what happened. The fact is that I've had a lot of fun with you for the past few days and well...I have to admit, the sex was amazing too. We took our role a little too seriously." he smiled in embarrassment and continued. "Despite what happened, I would like you to remain my agent, but after this we can only have a working relationship, nothing more. I hope you understand." he said in a more serious tone this time.
"Yes." you answered. His words nearly broke your heart...
Slowly everyone left, you also returned to the hotel. Ty wished you goodnight and gave you a kiss on the cheek before going to his own room. Tired and with a heavy heart, you washed off your make-up, showered and then tried to sleep a little. The next day you and him took the early evening flight back to Los Angeles.
Ty was about to start shooting the movie soon, which would hopefully bring him back to the top league of Hollywood. He kept his word and now really only saw you as his agent and assistant. You only spoke on the phone and only met in person when you gave him a script. You were bitter that your friendship turned into this, but you kept to your agreements.
Lying in your bed at night, you thought about Ty a lot. It true that he was an actor, but when you were on the island, you felt that his feelings for you were genuine. The way he looked at you, that look was everything. Then you remembered that night. His kiss on your lips, on your body, the smell of his skin, the weight of his body on you, your lustful moans... You had to admit, you missed him.
A couple of weeks later you got a text from Ty.
Can we talk? In person.
You wrote back yes, and then your doorbell rang. You were surprised, but you went outside and it turned out that he was standing at the gate. You let him in into your apartment.
"If you're wondering, there were more roles, but none of them were of interest to you..."
"That's not what I came for." he cut you off suddenly. "I want to talk to you, tell you something." he said seriously. You gulped.
"What would it be?"
"Um." Ty looked away for a moment, then continued. "You know that I'm already preparing for the role and I've been thinking about things, including us. When we were on the island and when I realized what we had done in the morning after the night, I panicked and was confused. I needed some time to clear my mind. We've been getting along so well so far and you know, I've been toying with the idea of what if..." he pointed to you and then to himself. "You and I...we'd try. Because let's face it, we're two adults who know each other pretty well and know what's under the other's clothes." Ty said half-jokingly.
"Are you serious?" you asked because you thought he wasn’t.
”If I wasn’t serious, I wouldn't be here now and I wouldn't have said these things."
Hearing his words calmed you, because you were convinced that he had come to tell you that he could no longer work with you and that you were fired.
"Well, you know, what you said, they crossed my mind too, but… if you're really serious about this, then I think we could try.” you said with a half smile.
You talked about that you will start dating and will take it slow and see how things will go later between the two of you.

Grilling the Facts: The Surprising Net Worth of George Foreman!
When you think of George Foreman, two things probably come to mind: his powerful punches in the boxing ring and that ever-famous grill sitting on countless kitchen counters. But have you ever wondered just how much this sports icon turned entrepreneur is worth? Spoiler alert—it’s a jaw-dropping figure that might just surprise you! We’re diving deep into the details of George Foreman’s net worth, exploring how he went from a world-class boxer to a business mogul with a fortune that’s anything but ordinary.
The Rise of a Boxing Legend
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of George Foreman’s net worth, let’s rewind a bit. Born on January 10, 1949, in Marshall, Texas, Foreman grew up in a tough neighborhood, but his determination and grit were apparent from a young age. He took up boxing in his teens, quickly rising through the ranks to become one of the most feared heavyweights of his era. By 1968, Foreman had already won a gold medal at the Olympics, and his professional career took off like a rocket.
But it was his legendary bout with Joe Frazier in 1973 that really put Foreman on the map. With a series of devastating punches, Foreman knocked out Frazier in just the second round, claiming the heavyweight title and etching his name in boxing history. Over the years, Foreman faced off against some of the biggest names in the sport, including Muhammad Ali, in the famous "Rumble in the Jungle." Although he lost that fight, Foreman’s career was far from over.
The Comeback King
Fast forward to 1987—George Foreman made a comeback that no one saw coming. At 38 years old, an age when most boxers are hanging up their gloves, Foreman returned to the ring with a new sense of purpose. And wouldn’t you know it, he went on to reclaim the heavyweight title in 1994 at the age of 45, becoming the oldest man ever to win a world heavyweight championship.
But here’s where things get really interesting. While Foreman’s boxing career was nothing short of legendary, it was his post-boxing ventures that truly catapulted his net worth to astronomical heights.
The George Foreman Grill: A Game-Changer
You can’t talk about George Foreman’s net worth without mentioning the George Foreman Grill. Launched in 1994, this nifty little gadget became a household name almost overnight. The grill was marketed as a quick and healthy way to cook, with its famous sloped design allowing fat to drain away from the food. It was a hit with busy families, health-conscious eaters, and anyone looking for an easy way to prepare meals.
But what made the George Foreman Grill more than just another kitchen appliance? The man behind it. Foreman’s name and persona were the perfect fit for the product, and his enthusiastic endorsements helped it become one of the most successful consumer products of all time.
So, how much did George Foreman make from this grill? Hold onto your hats—because the numbers are staggering:
$137.5 million: That’s the amount George Foreman was paid in 1999 to give up his rights to future earnings from the grill.
$4.5 million: His approximate earnings from sales of the grill each month before the buyout.
Over 100 million units sold: The George Foreman Grill has sold more than 100 million units worldwide, making it one of the most popular kitchen appliances ever.
It’s no wonder that a significant portion of George Foreman’s net worth stems from this incredible product.
Other Ventures and Investments
But wait—there’s more! The George Foreman Grill isn’t the only thing that’s added zeros to his bank account. Foreman has dabbled in various other business ventures and investments over the years. From real estate to television appearances, he’s never been one to rest on his laurels. Some of his noteworthy ventures include:
Real Estate: Foreman has invested in various properties over the years, further boosting his wealth.
Endorsements: He’s appeared in numerous commercials and TV shows, lending his name and face to brands like Meineke and Doritos.
Books: Foreman has authored several books, including cookbooks, fitness guides, and even his autobiography.
These ventures, combined with his earnings from boxing and the grill, have all contributed to George Foreman’s net worth, which is estimated at a staggering $300 million.
The Philanthropic Side of Foreman
Despite his immense wealth, George Foreman hasn’t forgotten his roots. He’s known for his charitable work and giving back to the community. Foreman has funded youth centers and donated millions to various causes, helping those in need and making a positive impact on the world.
One of his most notable contributions is the George Foreman Youth and Community Center in Houston, Texas. Established in 1984, the center provides a safe space for young people to learn, grow, and develop life skills. Foreman’s dedication to philanthropy is a testament to his character, proving that his legacy is about more than just money.
The Final Round: George Foreman’s Legacy
So, what’s the takeaway from George Foreman’s incredible journey? It’s a story of resilience, reinvention, and relentless pursuit of success. From his early days as a scrappy kid in Texas to his reign as heavyweight champion, and eventually, to his status as a business mogul, George Foreman’s life is nothing short of extraordinary. His net worth of $300 million is just one piece of the puzzle—it’s his impact on sports, business, and philanthropy that truly defines his legacy.
As we look back on Foreman’s achievements, it’s clear that he’s much more than just a boxer. He’s a symbol of what’s possible when you combine talent, hard work, and a bit of entrepreneurial flair. Whether you’re a fan of his boxing career, a user of his famous grill, or simply inspired by his story, there’s no denying that George Foreman’s net worth is as impressive as the man himself.
Conclusion
George Foreman’s net worth isn’t just a number—it’s a reflection of a life lived to the fullest. From dominating the boxing ring to dominating the kitchen appliance market, Foreman has built a fortune that’s as diverse as his career. But beyond the dollars and cents, it’s his spirit of determination and generosity that truly sets him apart. Whether he’s throwing a punch or flipping a burger, George Foreman knows how to make an impact—and his net worth is proof of that.

What Are the Most Popular DoorDash Features?
DoorDash has become one of the most popular food delivery services. It offers several features that make ordering food easy and convenient. One of the key features is "Track Your Order." With this option, you can follow your delivery in real-time. This gives you a sense of when your food will arrive. It helps reduce any uncertainty while waiting. The live map shows where the driver is and how long it will take. Many users find this feature useful, especially during busy times like lunch or dinner.
Another popular feature is the "DashPass" subscription. For a monthly fee, DashPass offers free delivery on orders above a certain amount. It also gives you discounted service fees. This is perfect for people who order food often. The savings can add up quickly, making it a great deal for regular users. DashPass has become a favorite among many DoorDash customers because it makes ordering food even more affordable. For example, a family who orders food every week will save a lot by using DashPass.
The "Delivery Preferences" feature is also highly valued by many users. This allows you to customize your delivery instructions. You can ask for contactless delivery, specify a safe place to leave your order, or request that your food be placed at the door. It ensures a smooth experience, especially for those who have specific needs. A mother with small children might prefer her food to be left on the porch, so she doesn’t have to deal with the doorbell. This customization makes DoorDash stand out from other services. It helps meet the unique needs of every customer.
Features that Save Time and Money
The "Order Scheduling" feature is another popular option. It allows you to place orders in advance. You can choose the time that is most convenient for you. This is great for those who are planning meals ahead of time. For example, you can schedule a lunch order while at work and have it delivered right when you are ready to eat. It saves you from scrambling to place an order last minute.
The "Group Ordering" feature makes it easy for friends or colleagues to order together. Instead of one person placing a large order, everyone can pick what they want. This is ideal for office lunches or family gatherings. The app allows you to send a link to others. They can then add their items to the cart. This helps avoid confusion and ensures everyone gets what they want. It’s a great way to streamline the ordering process when multiple people are involved.
Lastly, DoorDash’s "Real-Time Customer Support" stands out. If you have any issues with your order, you can get help quickly. Whether it’s a missing item or a delivery delay, DoorDash makes it easy to resolve issues. The app has a built-in chat option where you can reach out to a support agent. Many users appreciate this, as it offers a fast solution to any problem. A quick response time can make a big difference, especially if you are hungry or in a hurry.
User Reviews and Experiences with DoorDash Features
DoorDash users love the convenience and ease of using the app. Many say they enjoy the "Track Your Order" feature, as it gives them peace of mind while waiting. For example, a user from New York shared that tracking the delivery was helpful during rush hour. They knew exactly when to expect their food. This feature has made the waiting time feel less stressful.
DashPass has also received positive feedback. A DoorDash user in California mentioned they saved a lot of money by using DashPass. They noted that delivery fees often added up, so the subscription was a game-changer. Another customer in Texas mentioned that the "Group Ordering" feature made family dinners much easier. Everyone could pick their meals, and the process was simple and fast.
In short, DoorDash’s features are designed to make your life easier. From order tracking to scheduling, the app provides a smooth, efficient service. By using these tools, DoorDash ensures that you enjoy every meal delivery experience.

Don't Panic
Well, that didn’t take long.It has been exactly one week since the national election, and already some shoppers are responding with fear…fear that President-elect Trump will actually impose the tariffs that were such an important plank in his platform. And if he does, many prices are most certainly going to rise.
So what’s a person to do? Simple. Buy now, even if you don’t need it yet, because prices might be higher tomorrow. It’s called doom spending.
If ever there were a prescription for inflation and/or product shortages, this is it. Some might argue they are acting rationally, but others would say that irrationality is causing this reaction. I get it. If Trump imposes 10-20% tariffs on anything and everything, except 60-100% on Chinese-made goods, it’s going to get crazy. And if you know you are going to ultimately need something, it might just make sense to buy it now.
As I look around my possessions, especially the things I buy fairly regularly, I see a bunch of trail running shoes, all sourced from Vietnam. They typically cost $150 a pair, so add $15-$30 to the price. And that new iPhone 16 I told you I was going to get? I never got around to it, but the 1TB Pro Max model could double from $1599 to nearly $3200, since it is made in China. Maybe I better also get a new MacBook Pro while I’m at it, right?
Perhaps you are thinking of a new car. The Ford Edge, a very popular model that you might think is made in the US, is actually made at a plant in Canada. Planning on a new 75” TV? Better hurry, because all the TVs we buy in the US, aside from a handful of specialty TVs designed for outdoor usage, are made overseas. The vast majority of our clothing comes from Asia and Central America. Most of our winter fruits and veggies come from Mexico and points south. Yesterday I noticed the bag of mini sweet peppers I bought at Walmart came from hothouse operations in Canada.
I could go on and on and on. The problem is the US companies, from retailers to manufacturers, cannot reshore operations at the snap of a finger. Furthermore, international investment takes a long time. It’s not like there are empty factory buildings across the country waiting to be fired up again.
What is most likely to happen is that companies will look for ways to shift production from China—if they currently rely upon it—to other nations where the tariffs would be lower. This has already happened in some sectors, long before Trump started threatening his tariffs. It’s a decent stop-gap measure, albeit not perfect.
And as I have intoned recently, the idea that we can absorb thousands of new manufacturing jobs at a time of extremely low unemployment is problematic. Manufacturers would drive up wages overall, and lure some workers away from lowering paying jobs, like fast food and retail. But then those jobs would need to be filled. We need more humans. Or robots.
Meanwhile, we are faced with the very real possibility of a run on popular products leading up to the 20th January inauguration. And if the tariffs are enacted, there would then presumably be a precipitous drop in sales. Well, at least until I wear out all of those shoes and need a new phone.
Panic buying is a phenomenon unto itself. We don’t normally see it very often, except in winter around here. Whenever the “S” word is invoked—meaning snow—it sends people rushing to the supermarket to load up on milk, bread, and eggs. You know. Because I guess they’re all going to eat French Toast for the near term. Come on. This is Texas, even way up here in the Panhandle. Whatever we get will probably be gone in a day or two. I’m pretty sure we will all survive. Then again, maybe the storm will completely fizzle, and then we will have all that food.
We also saw panic buying during COVID, and again this semester when the longshoremen strike was looming. It’s what caused people to hoard toilet paper and other essentials, irrational thinking by seemingly rational people who did not want to risk being caught without.
Think long and hard before you run out to buy things in anticipation of something that may not happen. For all the bluster our President-elect has, his threatened tariffs may pass to the south or north of us, just like a snowstorm that somehow managed to miss us. It’s hard sometimes to use restraint, especially when FOMO is a very real possibility.
I’m keeping my ear to the ground, and if I begin to sense all this saber rattling is going to become policy, I’ll be ready to pounce. But not until then. I’d much rather be out on the trail than on the trail of more merchandise to fill my house.

Dove Hunting
Dove hunting in the US? Oh, it's not just any hobby – it's the tradition that kicks off hunting season for loads of fans. It's got something for everyone, from the veterans to the newbies, making it a perfect intro to the whole wingshooting scene. What's the real draw of dove hunting? It's not just the thrill of the chase; it's about the good times and great stories you rack up with your buddies along the way. Introduction to Dove Hunting Dove hunting holds a special place in the hearts of many American hunters. It's not just about the thrill of the hunt; it's about the beauty of early mornings in the field, the anticipation of the first flight, and the joy of a well-earned harvest. Doves, especially Mourning Doves, White-winged Doves, and Eurasian Collared-Doves, are the main targets, each offering its own unique challenge. Key Takeaways - Dove hunting is a popular and accessible form of hunting in the United States, attracting both beginners and experienced hunters. - Proper preparation, including understanding local regulations, selecting the right gear, and scouting for locations, is crucial for a successful hunt. - Choosing the right shotgun and ammunition is essential for dove hunting, with considerations for gauge, shot size, and choke. - Effective hunting techniques and strategies can significantly increase your success rate. Preparing for Dove Hunting Seasons and Regulations Before you even think about loading your shotgun, it's crucial to familiarize yourself with the local dove hunting regulations. These can vary widely from state to state and even within different regions of a state. Knowing the season dates, bag limits, and legal shooting hours is not just about compliance; it's about respecting the resource and ensuring sustainable hunting practices. State Season Start Bag Limit Texas September 1 15 Alabama September 5 15 California September 1 10 Choosing the Right Gear The right gear can make or break your dove hunting experience. Essential items include a reliable shotgun, suitable ammunition, comfortable clothing, and a sturdy pair of boots. Don't forget a hat and sunglasses for sun protection, and always carry enough water to stay hydrated. Selecting a Shotgun and Ammunition The choice of shotgun and ammunition is a personal one, deeply influenced by your hunting style and the conditions you expect to face. Most hunters opt for 12- or 20-gauge shotguns due to their versatility and the wide availability of ammunition. When it comes to shot size, 7 ½, 8, or 9 are the most popular choices for dove hunting, offering a good balance between range and pellet density. Gauge Recommended Shot Size Choke 12 7 ½, 8, 9 Modified 20 7 ½, 8 Improved .410 9 Full Advanced Dove Hunting Strategies Finding and Accessing Hunting Spots Scouting is the key to finding productive dove hunting spots. Look for areas with abundant food sources, such as sunflower, millet, or cornfields, and nearby water sources. Doves also prefer areas with bare ground for picking grit, making gravel roads and paths potential hotspots. Hunting Techniques and Strategies Once you've found a promising spot, setting up correctly can significantly increase your chances of success. Position yourself with the sun at your back to avoid being silhouetted, and try to blend in with the surroundings. Patience is crucial; doves can appear at any moment, often in fast-flying groups. After the Hunt: Cleaning and Cooking The reward for a successful hunt is not just the experience but also the delicious table fare doves provide. Cleaning doves is straightforward, and they can be prepared in a variety of ways. One of the simplest and most popular methods is to breast out the dove, marinate the meat, and grill it wrapped in bacon. Dove hunting is a cherished tradition that offers something for everyone, from the excitement of the hunt to the satisfaction of a meal shared with friends and family. With the right preparation, knowledge, and respect for the game and the environment, anyone can enjoy this quintessential outdoor experience. Hunting Techniques and Strategies Dove hunting requires not just skill with a shotgun but also a strategic approach to where and how you hunt. Pass-shooting is the most common method, where hunters position themselves along the doves' flight paths between feeding and watering areas. This requires keen observation and the ability to quickly judge the speed and direction of your target. The key is to find a balance between being concealed and having a clear line of sight. A well-placed decoy setup can also significantly increase your chances of attracting doves within shooting range. Decoying doves can be particularly effective in the early season when birds are less wary. A mix of stationary and motion decoys can create an inviting scene for passing doves. Remember, the placement of your decoys should mimic natural dove behavior, with decoys set on the ground for feeding, on wires or bare branches for perching, and a few in flight positions to simulate landing. Adjust your decoy spread throughout the season as doves become more cautious and learn to avoid areas with perceived danger. After the Hunt: Cleaning and Cooking Once the hunt is over, the next step is to prepare your harvest. Breasting out a dove is the most straightforward method, yielding tender meat that's perfect for a variety of dishes. For those looking to fully utilize their harvest, consider plucking the entire bird for roasting or grilling whole. Doves are versatile in the kitchen, capable of being the star of dishes ranging from simple grilled preparations to complex stews and sauces. Cooking dove meat is an opportunity to get creative. Whether you're making dove poppers wrapped in bacon and stuffed with jalapeño and cream cheese, or experimenting with dove in pasta, the key is to not overcook the meat. Dove meat is lean and can become tough if cooked beyond medium-rare to medium. Frequently Asked Questions The best times for dove hunting are early morning and late afternoon, coinciding with the birds' feeding times. Doves are most active during these periods, providing hunters with the best opportunities for a successful hunt. The use of lead shot for hunting migratory birds, including doves, is prohibited in many areas. Always check local regulations before heading out. Non-toxic shot alternatives like steel, bismuth, or tungsten are widely available and effective for dove hunting.Creating a habitat that meets doves' needs for food, water, and grit is the best way to attract them. Planting food plots with preferred seeds like sunflower, millet, or corn, maintaining a clean water source, and ensuring there's bare ground for picking grit can make your area more attractive to doves.Common mistakes include failing to scout and prepare properly, not practicing with your shotgun before the season, and neglecting to consider the sun's position and wind direction when setting up. Additionally, overhunting a single area can pressure doves to avoid it. Read the full article

Isn't it time for some new fast food concepts?
Hamburgers, chicken sandwiches (and offshoots such as wings/fried chicken), tacos/burritos, pizza, sandwich/salad. I'd guess that's easily 95% of fast food revenue in this country, and probably greater than 99%.
Lately there are some salad franchises that seem to be in expansion mode, though I would guess that's more do to high margins than volume and also is limited to geographic locations with relatively affluent demographics.
Halal Guys have taken the lamb cart urban classic and turned it into a growing franchise with a few hundred locations, though it's substantially more expensive than the lamb carts.
There was that grilled cheese concept on Shark Tank once upon a time. Looked it up: arguably it's just a sandwich/salad place now, and has less than 10 locations.
What could be a hit?
Idea mode (throwing out crazy ideas):
Calzones
Crepes
Hot Dogs
Empanadas
Pierogies
Soups
Gumbo
(not on the list: corn dogs!)
Take these in reverse order:
Gumbo: maybe I'm crazy, maybe I miss my late grandmother's gumbo, but I feel like there's space to find a few distinct gumbos, pre-cook them and then serve 'em up very quickly at a premium but with low operational complexity at the moment of purchase. Okra is amazing y'all, and Gumbo is literally an African word for Okra -- this can cross racial divides.
Soups: Really I just put this here for
The Soup Nazi (Seinfeld reference aside) was a real shop and while soup probably isn't going to be super successful in warm climes, it's probably also a fairly high margin business. Downside: even after being probably the most famous Seinfeld episode and the soup supposedly being amazing, the business went nowhere. Though...that's actually common in small businesses. Enterpreneurship is hard, even when you have a great product!
Pierogies: I threw this on here because I once subsisted on frozen pierogies, as I was saving every penny to start a business. I could see someone nailing a concept with unique stuffing, as well as unique sauces and accompaniments.
Empanadas: we're getting into the territory of "what is a sandwich?" "what's the difference between an empanada and a pierogie?" Nearly every Latin American country has their own style of an empanada.
Hot dogs: once an American staple, somehow in the early 90s, the hot dog got FUDed hard as waste pork products and has been in decline since. Even when people use all beef, it can be a hard sell. Still, I think there's something there.
Crepes: if you've been to Paris, you know what I'm talking about. Every other block has a cart or a hole in the wall serving delicious crepes, and they're just a few Euros. The closest I know of is a Texas chain called Sweet Paris that is pretty good, but somewhat inconsistent. It is very female-coded and upscale, featuring both meals and dessert crepes. I've had both great meals and mediocre meals, but they were all multiples more than a few Euros.
Calzones: there was a chain in the northeastern US in college towns that was insanely popular. Every pizza chain tried to copy it and failed, because they couldn't replicate the amazing calzone. I don't quite understand why, but that calzone was to die for.
tldr on this post: I'm tired of the Great Stagnation in American fast food.

"Locked Up, Fed Up: The Explosive Truth Behind America's Food Chain"
"From Plantation to Plate: Unveiling America's Prison Labor Supply Chain"
Description: Dive into the hidden world of America's food supply chain, where the journey from plantation to plate takes a surprising turn through the country's largest maximum-security prison. Follow the unmarked trucks packed with prison-raised cattle as they roll out of the Louisiana State Penitentiary, linking some of the world's largest food companies to a labor force of incarcerated individuals. Explore the intricate web connecting popular brands like McDonald’s, Walmart, and Cargill to jobs performed by prisoners, shedding light on a system rife with exploitation and ethical questions. Join us as we uncover the dark reality behind the food on America's dinner tables and challenge the notion of justice in the nation's prisons.
"Unravel the Hidden Threads: Explore the Intricate Web of America's Prison Labor Supply Chain, From Plantation to Plate!"
In the shadows of America's bustling food industry lies a complex and often overlooked supply chain fueled by the labor of incarcerated individuals. This web of prison labor, stretching from plantation fields to dinner plates, serves as the backbone of many household brands, yet its intricacies remain hidden from the public eye. As we peel back the layers of this system, we uncover a story of exploitation, resilience, and the stark realities of modern-day incarceration.
At the heart of this supply chain are the former Southern slave plantations, reincarnated as maximum-security prisons, where men are sentenced to hard labor for meager wages or sometimes no compensation at all. Unmarked trucks packed with cattle raised within the confines of these prisons roll out, their destination a Texas slaughterhouse feeding into the supply chains of corporate giants like McDonald's, Walmart, and Cargill. The journey from prison to plate is a covert operation, shrouded in secrecy yet integral to the profitability of these multibillion-dollar corporations.
The intricate web of prison labor extends far beyond the agricultural sector, infiltrating every aspect of the food industry. From processing plants to fast-food chains, incarcerated individuals toil away, their labor essential to meeting production quotas and driving profits. Yet, behind the veneer of economic efficiency lies a system rife with exploitation and abuse. Prisoners who refuse to work risk jeopardizing their chances of parole or facing punishment, while those who do often receive meager wages and lack basic workplace protections.
Despite the constitutional ban on slavery and involuntary servitude, the 13th Amendment's exception clause has provided legal cover for the exploitation of incarcerated labor. This loophole has been exploited by corporations seeking to capitalize on cheap and readily available workforce, reminiscent of the convict-leasing practices of the post-Civil War era. Today, the prison-industrial complex has evolved into a multibillion-dollar empire, perpetuating cycles of poverty and incarceration disproportionately affecting communities of color.
As consumers, we are complicit in sustaining this system through our purchasing choices, unwittingly supporting brands that rely on prison labor to drive down production costs. The food on our tables, from cereal to chicken nuggets, bears the invisible imprint of incarcerated hands. Yet, awareness is the first step towards accountability, and by unraveling the hidden threads of America's prison labor supply chain, we can demand transparency and ethical sourcing practices from the companies we patronize.
In the fight for justice, incarcerated individuals are often the most vulnerable and voiceless members of society. Denied basic rights and protections, they are forced to work under conditions akin to modern-day slavery, their labor exploited for corporate gain. It is incumbent upon us to shine a light on this hidden injustice, to amplify the voices of those silenced by incarceration, and to advocate for meaningful reform within the criminal justice system.
"Unraveling America's Prison Labor Supply Chain" is not just a call to action; it is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. It is a reminder that behind every product we consume lies a story, and it is up to us to ensure that story is one of dignity, fairness, and respect for all. Join us as we peel back the layers of secrecy and expose the truth behind America's prison labor system, from plantation to plate.
"From Chains to Chainsaws: Delve into the Untold Story of Prison Labor, Where America's Food Supply Meets Unseen Labor Forces."
In the intricate tapestry of America's food supply chain lies a hidden layer of labor, where the hands that toil often remain unseen and unheard. Behind the glossy packaging and supermarket shelves, incarcerated individuals form an essential yet invisible workforce, contributing to every stage of production from farm to table. This untold story of prison labor reveals the stark realities of a system built on exploitation and injustice, where chains of incarceration intersect with the demands of corporate profit.
From the vast expanses of former Southern plantations, now reincarnated as maximum-security prisons, to the bustling processing plants of multinational corporations, the journey of food from field to fork is marked by the labor of the incarcerated. Unmarked trucks transport cattle raised within prison walls to slaughterhouses, where their meat enters the supply chains of household names like McDonald's, Walmart, and Tyson Foods. Meanwhile, within the prison walls, individuals work for meager wages or no compensation at all, their labor fueling the profits of billion-dollar corporations.
The story of prison labor is one of exploitation and coercion, where incarcerated individuals are often compelled to work under threat of punishment or loss of privileges. Denied basic rights and protections, they face hazardous working conditions and lack access to adequate healthcare. Yet, their labor remains vital to the functioning of the food industry, driving down production costs and maximizing corporate profits. In this system, the pursuit of economic efficiency takes precedence over human dignity and well-being.
Despite the constitutional prohibition on slavery and involuntary servitude, the 13th Amendment's exception clause has provided a legal loophole for the exploitation of incarcerated labor. This loophole has been exploited by corporations seeking to capitalize on a captive and cheap workforce, perpetuating cycles of poverty and incarceration within marginalized communities. The intersection of race, class, and criminal justice further exacerbates these inequalities, disproportionately affecting communities of color.
As consumers, we are complicit in sustaining this system through our purchasing choices, unwittingly supporting brands that rely on prison labor to meet consumer demand. From fresh produce to processed foods, the products that line our supermarket aisles bear the unseen imprint of incarcerated hands. Yet, awareness is the first step towards accountability, and by shining a light on the hidden realities of prison labor, we can demand transparency and ethical sourcing practices from the companies we patronize.
The story of prison labor is not just one of exploitation and injustice; it is also a story of resilience and resistance. Despite facing insurmountable odds, incarcerated individuals continue to assert their humanity and demand recognition of their rights. From organizing strikes to advocating for policy reform, they are fighting for dignity and justice within a system that seeks to dehumanize and exploit them. It is time to listen to their voices, to acknowledge their contributions, and to work towards a more equitable and just society.
"From Chains to Chainsaws: Uncovering the Invisible Hands of America's Food Supply Chain" invites viewers to delve into the untold story of prison labor, where chains of incarceration intersect with the demands of corporate profit. By shedding light on this hidden reality, we can spark meaningful conversations, drive positive change, and ensure that the hands that feed us are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Join us as we uncover the invisible forces shaping America's food system and work towards a more just and equitable future for all.
"Bars to Brands: Inside America's Incarcerated Labor Supply Chain"
In the shadows of America's prison walls lies a hidden world of labor, where the incarcerated toil to feed the insatiable appetites of some of the world's biggest brands. "Bars to Brands: Inside America's Incarcerated Labor Supply Chain" takes viewers on a journey behind the bars and beyond borders to uncover the shocking truth of how prison labor intersects with global commerce.
From the bustling kitchens of fast-food giants to the sprawling fields of industrial agriculture, incarcerated individuals form an essential yet invisible workforce, powering the supply chains of household names like McDonald's, Walmart, and Coca-Cola. Unmarked trucks packed with prison-raised cattle roll out of maximum-security prisons, while rows of crops stretch far into the distance, tended by hands bound by chains of incarceration.
Yet, behind the glossy packaging and familiar logos lies a story of exploitation and injustice. Forced to work for meager wages or no compensation at all, incarcerated individuals face hazardous conditions and lack access to basic protections. Denied the most fundamental rights, they are coerced into labor under the threat of punishment or loss of privileges. Despite the abolition of slavery, the 13th Amendment's exception clause has provided a legal loophole for the exploitation of incarcerated labor, perpetuating cycles of poverty and incarceration within marginalized communities.
"Bars to Brands" exposes the human cost of corporate profit, highlighting the intersecting injustices of race, class, and criminal justice. From the cotton fields of former Southern plantations to the processing plants of multinational corporations, the labor of the incarcerated fuels the engines of capitalism, enriching corporations while perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality. As the global demand for cheap labor drives companies to seek ever-che aper production methods, the plight of incarcerated workers remains largely overlooked, hidden behind prison walls and corporate boardrooms.
This investigation sheds light on the intricate web of America's prison labor supply chain, revealing the systemic issues that perpetuate the exploitation of vulnerable populations. While some argue that prison labor provides valuable job training and opportunities for rehabilitation, the reality is far bleaker. Many incarcerated individuals are subjected to grueling work conditions, denied fair compensation, and deprived of the most basic human rights. Their labor is commodified, their dignity stripped away in the pursuit of profit.
"Bars to Brands" challenges viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about the products they consume and the systems that produce them. By tracing the journey of goods from behind bars to store shelves, this investigation prompts critical reflection on the ethical implications of our consumer choices. Can we, in good conscience, continue to support industries that rely on the exploitation of incarcerated labor?
Through powerful storytelling and compelling visuals, "Bars to Brands" amplifies the voices of those directly impacted by prison labor practices. From firsthand accounts of incarcerated individuals to expert analysis from advocates and scholars, this investigation offers a comprehensive understanding of the complex issues at play. By elevating marginalized perspectives and centering the experiences of those most affected, "Bars to Brands" seeks to ignite meaningful conversations and inspire collective action towards a more just and equitable future.
As viewers delve into the untold story of prison labor, they are invited to challenge prevailing narratives and imagine alternative visions of justice. By exposing the hidden threads that connect America's prisons to the global economy, "Bars to Brands" empowers audiences to demand accountability from corporations, policymakers, and society at large. Together, we can unravel the chains of exploitation and build a world where all individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, regardless of their incarceration status.

Metabolism And Its Effect On The Body
If the weight stubbornly refuses to come down, we often blame the slow metabolism. Is this correct? Today we will find out this and tell you what measures will work more effectively if you want to speed up your metabolism.
We are ready to argue about the above statement: the fact is that even if you have a slow metabolism.
What Is Metabolism?
Essentially, metabolism is the rate at which the body converts the nutrients in food into energy. It turns out that a person with a fast metabolism consumes calories faster and to some extent may simply be less prone to being overweight. But here many other factors are superimposed, which will determine the excess of weight.
Your physique is a major factor in metabolic rate. It is logical that the more body mass free of fat, the more active the metabolism will be. Heredity and hormones are important factors that determine metabolism.
What Kind Of Metabolism Are We Born With: Slow Or Fast?
Experts in this field argue that metabolism is determined at birth. But remember that if you have a naturally slow metabolism, this is not a guarantee that you are destined to be full. If you increase muscle mass, then your metabolism will speed up.
According to statistics, women after 30 are prone to a decrease in metabolism by an average of 2-3% per six months. The reason is simple - lack of any physical activity and loss of muscle mass.
Can Training Affect Metabolism?
Experts insist on the idea that regular exercise is the main way to regulate metabolism, but this is not the only one.
Remember that physical activity significantly increases the level of calories consumed by the muscles. During training, the metabolic rate increases by 20-30% and gradually levels off after training.
How Do Fats, Proteins And Carbohydrates Affect Metabolism?
Most scientific studies confirm that metabolism is affected by how many calories you consume. By reducing the level of calories, the body also reduces the metabolism. So it is logical that the body saves the small part of the energy that remains.
What Supplements Can Speed Up Metabolism?
Should we believe the assurances of advertising about the ability of dietary supplements to promote weight loss?
We believe that it has its effect only in combination - that is, you should not hope that by taking dietary supplements and not doing sports you will achieve great results.
M-synephrine is a chemical used to burn fat, and it has gained immense popularity in the sports nutrition world as an alternative to ephedrine. There are others in a dietary supplement for weight loss based on synephrine, vitamins and alpha-lipoic acid.
Omega-3 is a group of unsaturated fatty acids, which includes 11 polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential. So without a sufficient intake of Omega-3 fatty acids in the body, it is impossible to achieve the desired results in sports, whether it is weight loss, muscle gain or an increase in strength.
Ginger also has the ability to burn fat. It has been proven that ginger can be used for weight loss, but only as an aid.
In general, ginger has a very wide spectrum of pharmacological action, it has a beneficial effect on many organs and systems of the human body, including the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, liver, cardiovascular and genitourinary systems.
Final Words
The best and proven way to speed up metabolism is an active lifestyle and the right combination of regular exercise and the competent use of dietary supplements. So before following any activities or taking medicine (or supplements), you must consult an experienced specialist. To get a free consultation, you can visit MD TurCare, which is a reputed mental health care clinic in Keller and Grapevine Texas.

A Convenient Truth
Next time you are in your vehicle, take a look around and start counting how many convenience stores you pass en route to your destination. They are on practically every street corner, and there are often two or more sharing the same intersection. C-stores are among the most necessary of retail establishments today, especially since most now sell gasoline.
It wasn’t always this way. The first 7-Eleven opened in 1927. It and the ones that followed were tiny by today’s standards, did not sell gas, and were not beholden to street corner locations. Often they were in the middle of a block, which now seems ill-conceived in that it could not attract people from two streets.
Today, c-stores are much larger, have much broader selections of merchandise, sit on two or more acres, and may have a bank and/or fast food co-branded outlet inside. There are more than 150,000 of these today, and without them, most of us would find our lives increasingly inconvenient.
But there’s a growing chain that is spreading out of Texas that challenges the notion of what a c-store is. Buc-ee’s, with 58 units spread between here and Florida, considers itself a c-store. It’s just that their stores don’t look at all like a 7-Eleven. Oh, and they’re going to break ground soon in Amarillo.
The new store here will be 74,000 square feet and sit on 20 acres. Need gas? An array of 120 pumps will be there from which to choose. While it is not quite the biggest unit in the chain—the biggest is in Sevierville Tennessee with 74,700 square feet—it’s not far behind. But an even bigger one—75,000 square feet—is planned for near Ocala Florida.
Is it truly a c-store, though? One for thing for certain, it is not a truck stop, because trucks are not allowed. RVs are welcome, but you can’t spend the night. How about we just call them travel centers then? Given the location on Amarillo’s east side (near where US 287 branches off I-40), it will be among eight legitimate truck stops, meaning that travelers will have a plethora of choices. It’s little wonder why some people consider Amarillo to be a truck stop town.
As a marketing prof, I stand in amazement every time I stop at Buc-ee’s. No, it’s not because I am buying food or merchandise. To me it is crazy how Buc-ee’s has developed a cult-like following, and people will interrupt their travels for an hour to shop and dine there. They have shopping carts, something you don’t see in a c-store. Perhaps their biggest claim to fame is clean rest rooms. They are immaculate.
Although the chain dates to 1982, it is only in the last five years or so that it started its explosive growth, as well as venturing out of state. A large portion of the merchandise is private label foods, along with a wide variety of souvenirs ranging from t-shirts to plush toys.
And umbrellas. I confess. I bought one, not because I wanted to show my allegiance, but rather because I was trapped inside their St Augustine Florida store when a downpour broke out. It was either buy an umbrella, wait it out, or get drenched. I gladly forked over $15.
So powerful is the Buc-ee’s brand that it sometimes spawns other retail, hotels, and dining in proximity. Take the Terrell Texas store, for example, which is situated near where US 80 breaks off I-20 east of Dallas. The area has blossomed from just Buc-ee’s to three hotels and a variety of fast food and retail choices. All because of a c-store that attracts hundreds of customers each hour.
Given their popularity, I am surprised they have not adopted e-commerce. Their website is pretty basic, much like you would have seen in the late-1990s. This is a golden opportunity missed, because specialty clothing, toys, and packaged foods can easily be sold this way to folks not lucky (I suppose) to have a Buc-ee’s nearby. Then again, Trader Joe’s has followed a similarly austere marketing program with great success.
I have monitored social media reactions lately concerning the groundbreaking, and noted that some folks wondered why Buc-ee’s did not build on the west side, closer to where much of Amarillo lives. But Buc-ee’s is not building this for Amarillo people. No, it is building it for travelers. And all this at a time when QT has arrived in Amarillo, along with the return of Circle K, adding even more c-stores—and more in keeping with the typical size—to the mix.
I am pretty sure that when c-stores arrived on the scene nearly a century ago, no one could ever imagine how the genre has evolved, especially with Buc-ee’s. I’ll be watching for them to open in Amarillo, and will no doubt pay a visit. I won’t be going to shop but rather to people-watch. I’ll bring the umbrella just in case.
