As someone whose country went through a brutal dictatorship, we still see the bleeding wounds it's left- even 50 years later. The idea of not exercising the right to vote is absolutely unthinkable to most citizens. Granted, voting is obligatory, but everyone I know does it voluntarily and enthusiastically. The discourse I hear around it in the US evidences a narrow perspective, which is so upsetting to see, especially within leftist spaces.
The right to vote is something every citizen must, sadly, defend. Most Latin American countries know all too well what happens when fascism and treason disguised as conservatism take centre stage. I hope it won't be too late when the people peddling anti voting crap to younger generations realise the harm it causes.
All around the world, the reason fascist authoritarian dictatorships of whatever ideology stay in power is precisely either because citizens aren't allowed to vote, the vote is outrageously rigged (think of the 99% margins routinely racked up in places like Russia and Venezuela) or they rely on repressing the vote through intentionally disheartening liberal, left-wing, progressive, or other similarly oriented voters, who often do much of the work themselves with constant internal attacks and purity tests and adopting the rhetoric of anti-voting propaganda in the name of purity. Despite all their populist claims to enact a monolithic Will of the People, all these anti-democratic authoritarian movements are terrified of a genuinely representative popular vote and will do anything to stop it, because it turns out that if you give them the choice, people anywhere in the world don't super like being repressed, extorted, and terrorized in the name of Ideology, and will give your tiresome fascist ass Das Boot.
In the American context, the Republicans have gone full masks-off illiberal authoritarianism and they desperately hate the idea of people voting, which is why they have filed endless lawsuits, passed endless restrictive laws, disenfranchised even their own voters, shrieked election fraud, and everything else to try to jerry-rig their position as extremist minority oligarchic rulers for life. Which is why it is befuddling, to say the least, to see people insist that voting doesn't work, it doesn't matter that much, it isn't an effective tool against fascism, it's Morally Wrong, or all the other idiot "justifications" they come up with. All you have to do is look at how fucking terrified the bad guys are of a minimally equitable electoral system (such as getting rid of the Electoral College, which would pretty much ensure a Republican never won the presidency again if it had to be selected by -- gasp! -- an actual nationwide popular vote). That's why I don't even buy into the "voting sucks and is the bare minimum" rhetoric that gets peddled as a sort of tempting carrot to get the recalcitrants to do it -- don't worry, you can still post your mean tweets about Biden and that totally is more effective! Voting is A BIG DEAL. Voting works. Americans don't realize this because they are lucky enough to never have lived in a country where it wasn't available to be taken for granted and therefore scoffed off.
Voting, having the right to vote, and the large-scale ability that it confers to change the structures of society, is a MASSIVELY powerful tool that has largely not been available to most people throughout history (and is still unavailable to a large chunk of the world today). That's why there were bitter and protracted battles to get women and African Americans the right to vote in America. That is why the GOP still particularly targets those voters today, because the simple act of exercising your civic franchise in your best interests (and therefore not in the MAGA TrumpCult's interests) is so terrifying to them. If it was meaningless, none of this would matter. But it does.
Here, Imma make it real easy for you. If you have any reason to think your voter registration is lapsed, inactive, or nonexistent, if you have recently moved and don't know your status or your polling place or whether you get a mail ballot or whether your evil DeSantis governor has recently taken you off the rolls, or if you have never done it before, or if you want to do one basic thing to oppose fascism today, click this simple link. Do it.

Brazil’s global balancing act is trickier than ever
“Brazil is back,” vowed president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to cheering crowds at the COP27 climate summit in Egypt two years ago. Having defeated his hard-right rival, Jair Bolsonaro, and won back power after more than a decade out of office, Lula wanted to flag not only his own comeback but his desire to return the South American giant to the global stage.
During Lula’s first two terms, and before corruption scandals tarnished his reputation, the former metal worker had been feted as an international star. At one of the first meetings in 2009 of the G20, a body that gave Brazil a rare seat at the top table, then US president Barack Obama dubbed him “the most popular politician on Earth”. That same year, Brazil also co-founded the Brics bloc of developing nations.
Now Brazil — and Lula — are back in the spotlight. On Monday, the president will host the G20 leaders in Rio de Janeiro, one in a series of high-profile international summits to come. Some time next year, Brazil will welcome the newly expanded Brics group of emerging countries, and in November 2025 will also host the annual UN climate conference in the Amazon port of Belém.
Lula’s return to centre stage says much about the shifting geopolitics of the era, as growing competition for influence between the US and China gradually overshadows a system of international institutions once dominated by Washington.
The new environment has opened up space for a group of middle-ranking powers, many of them not formally aligned — among them Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia and the Gulf states, as well as India, a potential future superpower. Many of these governments are trying to expand their international influence in part by playing off the US, China and in some cases Russia.
But Brazil’s efforts to take advantage of the changing geopolitical landscape are also facing challenges. Lula’s attempt to act as a regional power and mediate the political crisis in Venezuela has floundered. Brazil, which prides itself on its own transition from dictatorship to democracy, has been uncomfortable at Russia and China’s efforts to make the Brics group more openly anti-western. And the election of Donald Trump in the US is likely to complicate Lula’s plan to showcase its climate diplomacy.
The country, say analysts, now finds itself having to navigate a much more complicated international scenario, in which its traditional neutrality may come under pressure from all sides. “Brazil is hedging. It’s on the fence,” says Oliver Stuenkel, a foreign policy expert at Brazil’s Getulio Vargas Foundation, of its approach to China and the US.
“Brazil is seeking to implement now this strategy of multi-alignment in a very uncertain global environment,” he adds. “Its major source of power, the capacity to navigate multilateral fora . . . is under so much strain now that this strategy of multi-alignment will become more challenging and maybe more costly.”

Anarchism in Brazil: Loss and Attempted Recovery of the Social Vector
We are combatants of a great war. All combatants mutually “understand” how to fight, assuming “commitments”, without which there cannot be unity of action. Those who “understand” this with others are no longer masters of their will entirely, held by a few threads to a signed agreement. If the threads break, the agreement is broken, if “you misunderstand, desist from the common fight”, you flee the struggle, you evade your comrades. José Oiticica
Anarchism arose in Brazil in the nineteenth century as an order-destabilising element, with some influence over the revolts of the time – as was the case with the Praieira Insurrection of 1848 – over the artistic and cultural environment as well as with the experiences of the experimental agricultural colonies at the end of the century. The Cecilia Colony (1890-1894) being the most well-known of these experiences. There are reports of strikes, workers’ newspapers and the first attempts at organising centres of workers’ resistance in the same century.
The emergence of what we call the “social vector of anarchism” began at the beginning of the 1890s, driven by a growth in the social insertion of anarchism in the unions, which culminated in the second decade of the twentieth century.
We call the social vector of anarchism those popular movements that have a significant anarchist influence – primarily with regard to their practical aspects – irrespective of the sectors in which they occur. These mobilisations, fruits of the class struggle, are not anarchist as they are organised around questions of specific demands. For example, in a union, the workers struggle for better salaries; in a homeless movement, they struggle for housing; in an unemployed movement, they struggle for work etc. However, they are spaces for the social insertion of anarchism that, by means of its influence, confers on the most combative and autonomous practical movements with the use of direct action and direct democracy, aiming at social transformation. The mobilisations constituted in the social vector of anarchism are made within the social movements, considered by us as preferred spaces for social work and accumulation, and not as a mass to be directed.
In Brazil, the social vector of anarchism began to develop in the late nineteenth century with the growth of the urban network and the population in the cities, and then with industrial growth which, of course, also saw the growing exploitation of workers; victims of exhausting days, unhealthy working conditions and low wages in factories that also employed child labour. With the objective of defending the working class from these conditions of practically unbearable exploitation arose several labour organisations, riots, strikes and uprisings – all of which were becoming increasingly common.
The intensification of class struggle in Brazil was occasioned by the coachmen’s strike of 1900, a number of strikes in 1903 that peaked in the general strike initiated by the weavers and the uprisings that culminated in the 1904 Vacina Revolt. In 1903 the Federation of Class Associations (Federação das Associações de Classe) was founded in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It followed the revolutionary syndicalist model of the French CGT and was later transferred to the capital and named the Brazilian Regional Workers’ Federation (Federação Operária Regional Brasileira - FORB) in 1906, some time after a visit by members of the Argentine Regional Workers’ Federation (Federación Obrera Regional Argentina - FORA) and a solidarity campaign with Russian workers.
By 1904 we can say that anarchism was able to present itself as an ideological tool of struggle and it “was, without a doubt, revolutionary syndicalism that was responsible for the first social vector achieved by the anarchists in the large Brazilian centres” [13]. In 1905, in Sao Paulo, shoemakers, bakers, carpenters and hatters founded the Labour Federation of Sao Paulo (Federação Operária de São Paulo- FOSP) and, in 1906, came the Labour Federation of Rio de Janeiro (Federação Operária do Rio de Janeiro - FORJ), which led in 1917 to the General Union of Workers (União Geral dos Trabalhadores - UGT) and brought together the “resistance unions [i.e. militant, combative]” . In 1919 the UGT became the Federation of Workers of Rio de Janeiro (Federação dos Trabalhadores do Rio de Janeiro - FTRJ) and, in 1923, the FORJ was re-founded.
In April 1906 the Brazilian Regional Labour Congress (Congresso Operário Regional Brasileiro), later known as the First Brazilian Labour Congress (Primeiro Congresso Operário Brasileiro), took place in Rio de Janeiro receiving delegates from several Brazilian states, representing diverse categories. The Congress approved its adhesion to French revolutionary syndicalism, adopting labour neutrality, federalism, decentralisation, anti-militarism, anti-nationalism, direct action and the general strike. The Second and Third Congresses took place, respectively, in 1913 and in 1920. In 1908 the Brazilian Labour Confederation (Confederação Operária Brasileira - COB) was founded.
The choice of revolutionary syndicalism occurred through the adoption of the economic camp of mobilisation and by the interesting proposal of federalism, which permitted the autonomy of the union in the federation and of this (the federation) in the confederation. Besides this, there was an international influence from the adoption of this model in other parts of the world. The means of struggle made by the mobilisation around short-term issues serves as a “revolutionary gymnastics”, which prepares the proletariat for the social revolution.
The anarchists hoped that in concrete action, in solidarity, and in the empirical observation of the contradictions between capital and labour, evidenced in conflicts, was the great lesson to be learned by the workers. That was the guarantee, they said, of the acquisition of ideological principles, not by rhetorical preaching or manuals, deprived of sensible experience, but by the practice of revolutionary and daily action by the masses. [14]
The first decade of the twentieth century counted more than one hundred strike movements, which acted, principally, in relation to the salary question. During the years of 1917 to 1920 more than two hundred demonstrations and strikes took place between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo alone. This whole conjuncture of mobilisation occurred with ample influence of the anarchists, who tried to carry out their propaganda in the unions; not circumscribing these within the anarchist ideology – the unions were for the workers and not for anarchist workers – but utilising them for the propagation of their ideas.
All this expectation placed on the social revolution, which was becoming more and more real since the mid-1910s, culminated in three relevant mobilisations. Firstly, in 1917 in that which became known as the 1917 General Strike, when workers of Sao Paulo, in a large way organised around the Proletarian Defence Committee, struggled against famine, carrying out sabotage and boycotting products from the Crespi, Matarazzo and Gamba industries. Among the victories of the strike movement are the eight hour work day and wage increases won by sectors of the movement. In 1918 the mobilisations continued and, in Rio de Janeiro, the Anarchist Insurrection took place. With strikes taking place in the carioca (Rio de Janeiro) factories and Campo de São Cristóvão occupied by the workers, the insurgents wanted the seizure of government buildings and the establishment in the city of the first soviet of Rio de Janeiro. Finally, in 1919, the Civil Construction Workers Union (União dos Operários em Construção Civil - UOCC) had the greatest gain of all, winning the eight hour work day for the whole sector. Besides this, outside of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, significant mobilisations took place in other states of Brazil: Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Paraíba, Bahia, Ceará, Pará and Amazonas.
There was even a large cultural movement that worked together with the union mobilisations and was very important: rationalist schools inspired by the principles of (Francisco) Ferrer y Guardia, social centres, workers theatre and other initiatives that were fundamental in forging a class culture, an object of union in times of struggle.
There was also, at this ascendent juncture of struggle, the formation of two political and ideologically anarchist organisations which sought to work with the union movement. The first of these was the Anarchist Alliance of Rio de Janeiro (Aliança Anarquista do Rio de Janeiro), founded in 1918 by the need for an anarchist organisation for working within the unions, and which was important for the 1918 insurrection. However, with the repression that occurred the Alliance was disbanded, returning to organise in the first Communist Party, of libertarian inspiration, founded in 1919. Both the Anarchist Alliance and the Communist Party grouped together members of a sector of anarchism which is called “organisationalist” and which understood as necessary the distinction between levels of action – the political level, ideologically anarchist, and the social level, of union mobilisations. These militants understood as necessary the existence of specific anarchist organisations to act together with trade unions. It is important to emphasise that, at this time, anarchists already had a preoccupation with their specific organisation.
We can say that the social vector of anarchism was on an upward curve until the beginning of the 1920s when the crisis of anarchism, parallel to unionism itself, began to develop. Culminating in the 1930s in their demobilisation and in the loss of this social vector. For us, the loss of the social vector of anarchism is the result of two contexts of crisis: one of the situation and the other of anarchism itself.
The context of the situation was marked, firstly, by the repression both of trade unionism as well as anarchism, which can be seen in the third revision of the Adolfo Gordo law of 1921, which provided for the repression and deportation of anarchists, in addition to the deportation of militants to the penal colony of Clevelândia, located in the current state of Amapá, between 1924 and 1926. Besides this, there was also an ebb of social struggles around the world and frustration with the result of the struggles that came after the Russian Revolution of 1917. Also significant was the end of the First World War and the recovery of European factories, which returned to export (including to Brazil), reducing the workers contingent in the cities and the growth of the Communist Party, founded in 1922, which from 1924 began to most strongly dispute the unions and ally itself with the reformists, proposing electoral participation as a form of political expression. Finally, the harnessing of the unions to the state which was legalised in 1930 and 1931 by the Vargas government, culminating in 1932 when the unions were obliged, by law, to have government approval and to follow operating rules determined by the state.
The context of anarchism was marked, primarily, by the confusion between different levels of activity. For many militants unionism, which was the social vector, the medium of action that should lead to an end – expressed by the social revolution and the constitution of libertarian socialism – ended up becoming the end itself. This phenomenon was already being noticed in anarchism and was the subject of fierce debate, already in 1907 at the Amsterdam Congress, between Malatesta and Monatte. Monatte, defender of “pure syndicalism”, saw great similarity between syndicalism and anarchism and argued that “syndicalism is enough in itself” [15]. Malatesta, with a diametrically opposed position, considered syndicalism “a camp particularly favourable to the spread of revolutionary propaganda and also as a point of contact between anarchists and the masses” [16]. Thus, Malatesta argued for the need for two levels of activity: one politically anarchist, and the other social, within the union, which would be the means of insertion.
The positions of Malatesta and Monatte summarise the positions of the Brazilian anarchists. On one side, a part of the anarchists defended the need for specifically anarchist organisation, which should seek social insertion in the unions. On the other, anarchists who had understood militancy within the unions as their only task, and thus “forgot to form specific groups capable of giving support to revolutionary practice” [17].
Our position in relation to the social events of the early twentieth century is aligned with that of Malatesta, which was taken up in Brazil by José Oiticica who, at the time, regarded the lack of specific anarchist organisations as the problem. In 1923 he already warned of the fact that the anarchists had been dedicating themselves completely to the activities of the unions and renouncing ideological activities, confusing unionism, which was the means of insertion, with the end they wished to achieve. For him it was essential to create “anarchist federations outside of the unions” [18], such as the Alliance of 1918 and the Party of 1919 which, despite being groups or federations of this type were, unfortunately, insufficient for the task it was necessary to realise.
For Oiticica, as we have already partially referred to, it was important at that time to direct forces towards the formation of “closed” groups, with a definite programme of action and commitment tacitly assumed by the militants [19]. The “centralisation” of the anarchist forces in the struggle against the bourgeoisie, he continued, should not be confused with the “decentralisation” typical of libertarian organisations. He then claimed two urgent steps for the efficiency of anarchist action: “selection of militants and concentration of forces”. And he concluded: “Only this will give us unity of action”. [20]
We believe that the lack of anarchist organisations that could lend support to the class struggle, expressed most notably at that time by the unions, was also largely responsible for the loss of the social vector of anarchism. As the ideological organisations were not sedimented, the context of the crisis of unionism eventually extended to anarchism itself. Thus, a crisis at the social level also condemned the political level, since there was no real difference between the two at the time.
For us it is normal that the social level, represented at that time by unionism, has ebbs and flows, moments of ascent and descent; and the specific anarchist organisation serves precisely to accumulate the results of struggles and, sometimes, to seek out other spaces for work, other spaces for insertion. The problem is that, without anarchist organisations, when the social level – or a sector of it – enters into crisis, the anarchists are not able to find another space for social insertion.
Once the social vector was lost, and without specific organisations capable of sustaining an ideological struggle of longer duration, it was not possible for the anarchists to immediately find another space for insertion. [...] The prestige achieved through the entrance into trade unions very probably led them to believe that the potential of the class associations was inexhaustible, even superior to the changing circumstances. [21]
Thus, the crisis in revolutionary syndicalism also took the social vector of the anarchists, who then started to “organise themselves into cultural groups and for the preservation of memory” [22].

The FARJ claims to continue the militancy of Ideal Peres and the work that originated from his history of struggle. Ideal Peres was the son of Juan Perez Bouzas (or João Peres), a Galician immigrant, anarchist and shoemaker who played an important role in Brazilian anarchism from the end of the 1910s. He was an active militant of the Alliance of Craftsmen in Footwear (Aliança dos Artífices em Calçados) and of the Workers’ Federation of Sao Paulo (Federação Operária de São Paulo - FOSP), having been active in numerous strikes, pickets and demonstrations. In the 1930s he was active in the Anticlerical League (Liga Anticlerical) and, in 1934, participated decisively in the Battle of Sé – when the anarchists rejected the Integralistas (fascists) under bursts of machine gun fire. The following year anarchists also participated in the formation of the National Liberator Alliance (Aliança Nacional Libertadora - ANL), a co-ordination that supported the anti-fascist struggle, combating imperialism and landlordism.
Ideal Peres was born in 1925 and began his militancy in that context of crisis, when the social vector of anarchism had already been lost. This happened in 1946 when he participated in the Libertarian Youth of Rio de Janeiro (Juventude Libertária do Rio de Janeiro); in the periodicals Ação Direta (Direct Action) and Archote (Torch); in the Anarchist Union of Rio de Janeiro (União dos Anarquistas do Rio de Janeiro); in the Anarchist Congress (Congresso Anarquistas) that took place in Brazil; and in the Union of Brazilian Libertarian Youth (União da Juventude Libertária Brasileira). Ideal Peres had relevant participation in the Professor José Oiticica Study Centre (Centro de Estudos Professor José Oiticica - CEPJO), site of a series of courses and lectures that used anarchism as a “background” and which was closed down by the dictator in 1969, when Ideal was imprisoned for a month in the former Department of Social and Political Order (Departamento de Ordem Política e Social - DOPS), first in the Galeao Air Base and then in the barracks of the Military Police on Barao de Mesquita road, torture centre of the military dictatorship.
In the 1970s, after prison, Ideal organised in his house a study group that had as its goal to bring in youth interested in anarchism and, amongst other things, to put them in touch with former militants and establish links with other anarchists in Brazil. This study group would constitute the nucleus of the Libertarian Study Circle (Círculo de Estudos Libertários - CEL), conceived by Ideal and his partner Esther Redes. The CEL functioned in Rio de Janeiro from 1985 to 1995, having close to (or even inside) it the formation of other groups like the José Oiticica Anarchist Group (Grupo Anarquista José Oiticica - GAJO), the Direct Action Anarchist Group (Grupo Anarquista Ação Direta - GAAD), the 9th of July Anarchist Student Collective (Coletivo Anarquista Estudantil 9 de Julho - CAE-9), the Mutirão group; in addition to publications such as Libera...Amore Mio (founded in 1991 and which still exists today), the magazine Utopia (1988-1992) and the journal Mutirão (1991). Besides this, the CEL promoted events, campaigns and dozens (if not hundreds) of lectures and debates.
With the death of Ideal Peres in August 1995 the CEL decided to honour him by modifying its name to the Ideal Peres Libertarian Study Circle (Círculo de Estudos Libertários Ideal Peres - CELIP). CELIP gave continuity to the work of the CEL, being responsible for aggregating militancy in Rio de Janeiro and continuing the theoretical improvement thereof. Additionally, CELIP emerged with the publication of Libera, through which it developed relationships with groups across the country and abroad. It brought forward important libertarian reflections on issues that were on the agenda in Brazil and the world at the time, and served for the spread of texts and news of various groups in the country. The lectures and debates continued attracting new militants, and the relations that some militants had with the Uruguayan Anarchist Federation (Federación Anarquista Uruguaya - FAU) ended up significantly influencing the model of anarchism that was being developed within CELIP. It was co-organiser of the State Encounter of Libertarian Students of Rio de Janeiro (ENELIB) in 1999; participated in the International Meeting of Libertarian Culture in Florianopolis in 2000; and contributed to the activities of the Institute of Libertarian Culture and Action in Sao Paulo (ICAL). It also took up the struggle of the oil industry workers, re-establishing ties between anarchists and unionists in the oil industry – ties that date back to 1992/1993, when they occupied the head-quarter buildings of Petrobras (Edifício Sede da Petrobrás - EDISE) together in the first occupation of a "public" building after the military dictatorship. In 2001 this struggle of the anarchists and oil industry workers was resumed, culminating, in 2003, in the more than 10 day encampment by anarchists and oil industry workers fighting for amnesty for comrades politically dismissed. Besides this, CELIP did a range of other activities.
In 2002 we initiated a study group in order to verify the possibility for the construction of an anarchist organisation in Rio de Janeiro, the result of which was the foundation of the FARJ on 30th of August 2003. For us, there is a direct link between the militancy of Ideal Peres, the construction of the CEL, its functioning, the change of name to CELIP and the subsequent foundation of the FARJ.
When we speak of seeking the “social vector of anarchism”, we necessarily make reference to the work initiated by Ideal Peres who, even in the 1980s, started working with social movements with a view to withdrawing anarchism from the strictly cultural realm to which it had been constrained since the crisis of the 1930s.
In the first half of the 1980s, Ideal and Esther [Redes] entered a social movement, as founders and members of the Leme Friends and Residents Association (Associação dos Moradores e Amigos do Leme - AMALEME). In the 1980s a number of federations of neighbourhood, favela (township/slum) and community associations appeared in Rio de Janeiro, and Ideal participated in AMALEME, trying to influence it to use self-management practices and to demonstrate solidarity with the poor community of Morro do Chapéu Mangueira. In 1984 Ideal is elected vice president of the association and in 1985 president. His attention to neighbourhood associations having been born in another association, ALMA (Residents Association of Lauro Muller and Surroundings), perhaps the first association to demonstrate combative and self-management impetus, which ended up influencing other associations [23].
The stimulation of Ideal Peres and the very development of militancy in Rio de Janeiro showed a practical need for social work and insertion of the anarchists, which had deepened after the contacts we had with the FAU in the mid-1990s. Through Libera and contact with other groups in Brazil we assisted the initiative of the Brazilian Anarchist Construction (CAB) in 1996, disseminating a document entitled "Struggle and Organisation," which sought to give support to the creation of organisational groups that would defend the idea of “especifista” anarchism. We can say that all especifista anarchism in Brazil has been influenced by the CAB and FAU itself, and this is no different with us.
Since then the idea of social insertion and recovery of the vector was becoming larger all the time. The history of Brazil and a more strategic observation about anarchism’s own reason for being were leaving us increasingly convinced that especifismo was the form of anarchist organisation most suitable to our purposes. For us, the path to the recovery of the social vector passes, necessarily, through a specifically organised anarchism that differentiates the levels of activity and is present in the class struggle. However, unlike the early twentieth century, when the preferred terrain of class struggle was the unions, we now consider that unionism can be a means of insertion, but that there are others far more important. As previously defined there is today a very broad exploited class which permits the social work and insertion of anarchists: the unemployed, peasants, landless, homeless etc. For us, to be well-organised at the political (ideological) level will allow us to find the best path to bring back this social vector of anarchism, be it where it may.
All of our actual reflection aims to think of a strategic model of organisation that enables a recovery of the social vector, in that this points to our objective of overcoming capitalism, the state and for the establishment of libertarian socialism. What we seek, in this context, is only a station in the struggle: as we emphasised at our foundation: "Here we present the FARJ, without asking for anything other than a fighting station, lest righteous and profoundly beautiful dreams die."[24]

The opposition Centre Party saw an uptick in support in newspaper Helsingin Sanomat's latest survey, while support for Finland's three largest parties has remained almost unchanged.
Led by former defence minister Antti Kaikkonen, the Centre now has 12.9 percent support, up from 11.8 percent last month. It saw support rise to its highest level in more than two years.
At the same time, support for the governing National Coalition (NCP) and Finns parties fell by 0.6 percentage points apiece. The opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) held onto its position as the most popular.
In fifth place was the Left Alliance with 10.1 percent support and in sixth place were the Greens, who garnered eight percent of support.
SPP leader: Enough cuts
Rural-focused newspaper Maaseudun Tulevaisuus examined differences in opinion within Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's (NCP) coalition government about budget cuts.
Anders Adlercreutz, chair of the Swedish People's Party — one of four parties in government — said the planned nine billion euros in cuts are sufficient.
The PM told the paper more cuts were still needed, but Adlercreutz offered a differing opinion.
"Now the focus should be on growth-creating measures. I believe there is a common will in the government to do so," Adlercreutz told MT.
According to Adlercreutz, the government is also boosting labour migration in many ways. For example, a foreigner who has completed a degree in Finland can obtain a residence permit immediately upon graduation.
However, the business sector has criticised the government's draft law, which would cancel the residence permit of a foreigner who becomes unemployed within three months if they don't land a new job.
"If labour immigration in Finland is not at a sufficient level in the future, SPP believes that it is worth analysing matters before the economic and social good," Adlercreutz told MT.
Holiday huts and helicopters
Tabloid Ilta-Sanomat wrote that Prime Minister Orpo stayed at the Finnish Border Guard's remote Somasjärvi patrol hut during his summer holiday on a hiking trip to Halti.
Orpo admitted at a press conference on Tuesday that he had missed a European Political Community (EPC) meeting in the UK because of his wife's birthday. His wife Niina Kanniainen-Orpo turned 50 years old on 17 July. The meeting was the following day, 18 July.
Orpo was hiking in Käsivarsi — the northern arm of Finland — with his wife, son Pekka and dog Taavi. Orpo said in an Instagram post that they made a day trip to the Halti fell — Finland's highest elevation — from Somasjärvi along the Norwegian border, a hike of about 17 kilometres.
The Somasjärvi area has no public accommodation other than an open wilderness hut where anyone can stop for the night or pitch a tent.
However, there is also a patrol hut on the lake for use by the Finnish Border Guard.
Orpo admitted to IS that he stayed in the Somasjärvi patrol hut.
"The Border Guard offered me the hut in Somasjärvi to stay overnight, but it was just an overnight stay," Orpo said in Rovaniemi at the summer meeting of the National Coalition Party's ministerial group.
Orpo knew about the patrol hut, having visited it during his time as interior minister in 2015-2016.
"I humbly asked if I could use it, knowing that there was a hut out there on the fells," Orpo told IS.
When questioned by the paper on whether it was the right use of his position, the PM said staying at the hut was simply a minor request.
"Yes, I think it was. But it's quite a small scale thing and the Border Patrol judged it that way," Orpo told IS. When asked for comment, the Border Guard said all they did to facilitate the stay was hand over the key to Orpo.
IS and other news outlets suspected that Orpo also took a helicopter to leave Somasjärvi and flew 50 kilometres to Kilpisjärvi, the closest road in the region. Orpo denied any involvement from the Finnish Defence Forces or Border Guard in accessing the flight.
At an event at Rovaniemi's Lordi Square, a member of the public asked Orpo about the matter.
The PM explained that he made the helicopter trip at his own expense. Local helicopter operators estimated the cost of a trip from Somasjärvi to Kilpisjärvi at 1,700 euros.

What kind of support does the medical coding coaching centers offer?
MEDICAL CODING
Medical coding is a vocation that is growing in popularity, demand, and trends in the field of healthcare administration. The demand for medical coders is growing rapidly in India as the global healthcare industry also expands rapidly. The gap between supply and demand for skilled medical coders has widened over the recent years, nevertheless. To sustain a good income, the coding needs to be correct, secure, and effective.
How to enter the field of medical coding
1. Get a GED or High School Diploma. Medical coders must often possess a high school diploma or its equivalent in order to work.
2. Think about enrolling in courses on medical terminology and anatomy. You can get a job more easily and improve your grasp of the medical coding procedure by enrolling in these courses.
3. Get certified. Medical coders must possess a qualification in medical coding, which is required by many workplaces. Numerous groups provide certification programmes, including the American Health Information Management Association.
4. Acquire Knowledge. Medical coders with experience are frequently preferred by employers. Think about doing an internship at a medical centre like a hospital or clinic.
5. Keep Up to Date. Medical coding is continuously evolving, so it's critical to keep up with the most recent advancements in the industry. To stay up to date, think about taking continuing education courses or going to conferences.
Transorze Solutions is an leading training institutes which provide assistance in Medical coding, Medical Scribing , Medical transcription etc. It is the direct training partner with NSDC which is indeed a major milestone. This prompt seriously fired my neurons into all sorts of zigzagging ways and I am interpreting this a bit differently, I think, but I couldn’t stop writing once I started, so!
Here is the story! Hope you enjoy!
_________
THE EPSTEAN CONUNDRUM
April, 2075.
That day, Planetary TV, the first ever interstellar news channel, was watched by almost the entirety of earth’s population. Snarky teenagers sat huddled in groups, their smartphones held in shaky hands. Adults congregated in their workplace cafeterias, the overhead television screens inculcating an acute anticipation within them. Even toddlers sat on living room sofas, their parents holding their hands, the screens alight before them.
The oldest and the youngest of the world waited with bated breaths and watched the popular reporter Katie Stones cover the launch of the automated battle starships that would soon be propelled into deep space.
“The Epteans, our fearsome alien adversaries, have terrorised our near-earth orbits for a decade,” Katie spoke with her trademark fierceness. “They have dropped their explosives on inhabited lands and tried to contaminate our water sources. They have destroyed our communication lines and most recently, they have gone and abducted several of our people with their infiltrating orbiters! This is space terrorism at its most cruel. We humans cannot pull our punches anymore. The finest minds of our world have come together and created a legion of automated battle machines. Today, we make a stand, citizens. Today, we fight for humanity!”
United against a common enemy, mankind cheered together as their screens were filled with the grounds of various launch centres. The state-of-the-art technology was plainly obvious and after a decade of relentless space skirmishes, humans felt hope blossom within their hearts.
The ignition began, the fuel burnt, the rockets launched together from all parts of the world–and amidst this cacophony, mankind finally found peace once more.
Or at least, that was what global media would have them believe.
March, 2100.
It was a peaceful morning within NASA’s Communication Satellite Station when the message was first received with startling clarity. It was a foreign sender–none of the American satellites or the ISS had been recognised by their systems–and one that had recently entered their radio telescope’s range. For Dr. Linda, who was seated before a computer screen with her daily cup of coffee, the one singular word suddenly materialised with ominous implications.
“HELP,” it read.
Of course, Linda spent the next two minutes making sure her eyes were not receiving her–she had indulged in her caffeine intake more than usual that day–and after she was certain that this truly was a pointed, deliberately sent plea for help, she quickly informed the higher-ups of this development.
A group of professionals were put to work right after and soon, everyone within the Station had heard of a very surprising discovery:
An Epstean spacecraft had been the sender of the signal.
Their interstellar enemies that had abandoned the space war that they themselves had instigated against Earth. Twenty years, and not a peep had been heard from them. Mankind’s battle-crafts had been successful–overwhelmingly so, if the Epstean’s lack of communication thereafter was any indication.
But now, there was an Epstean spaceship at their doorstep, knocking for help, insistently sending them messages.
The tables had truly turned.
“They sent it in English?” Firoz Alam, the head of the Interplanetary Affairs department asked with some mirth, looking around the table of highly ranked professionals. The round table conference was being held a mere hour after the message was first received, an embargo instantly placed on all news outlets and a strict restriction on any outflow of information.
“Those arrogant fuckers always sent in cryptic codes before–with convoluted keys to crack them. They knew English by then but being cordial is apparently not amongst their social values.”
“It is now,” Commander Smith said pointedly, his usually smooth voice laced with some derision. “When they need our help, look how their egos fall.”
“Gentlemen, we have more pressing matters to discuss than the Epstean and their hypocritical ways,” Sasha Jones, the head of space security, interrupted with a sharp look. Clearing her throat, she went on, “We have run the signal under several tests and have been monitoring the alien spacecraft since its entrance into our geostationary earth orbit. This spacecraft is clearly occupied by an Epstean or several and they have not yet revealed their identity beyond what is obvious. There are several scenarios that could have led to this outcome but I do think the most plausible case is that one of the Epstean’s deep-space expeditions went awry and the craft that we now have amongst us contains the survivors. The ones desperate enough to seek our refuge.”
The Epsteans lived more than four light-years away from Earth, its planetary system based around their second closest star, Proxima Centauri. Their planet was boorishly named EP-786 by humans and their creative name-coining intellectuals and they were summarily dubbed the Epsteans after the first time the two civilizations made contact.
It was around the time travel at light speed had just evolved into functionality and finding foreign spacecrafts was common before official treaties and a unified space law were introduced to contain the chaos. As such, the Epstean spacecraft was trespassing into Earth’s bounds and it was entirely up to humans to decide what to do against it. Considering the time it took to travel from EP-786 to Earth, the aliens inside the spaceship could have stranded in space for atleast four years.
No wonder they had stooped so low as to send a message in English.
“Send them back,” Commander Smith said matter-of-factly. “Give them fuel if that’s what they want but allowing them to land? I am against it.”
“We do not know what they want,” Sasha said, her voice placating. She knew Commander Smith wasn’t usually an unreasonable fellow but his hate for the Epstean was personal. He had lost his brother in the abductions during the space war and those kinds of wounds never healed. Death would have been a kinder tragedy to bear. The uncertainty that so many had been plagued with was far more cruel.
“Have they said anything besides “HELP”?” Darcy, one of NASA’s veteran astronauts and a foremost officer in human affairs, spoke up. “Have we sent them back any signal ourselves?”
Firoz nodded his head, “Just that we have received their correspondence. Standard procedure, you understand. They have not yet shown their vocabulary outside of their first message. Might we send them a dictionary upstairs?”
“This is not the time, Firoz,” Sasha said. “Diplomacy is supposed to be your thing. Acting like a teenager with a grudge doesn’t suit your rank.”
“I have been sending the Epstean meticulously worded messages for twenty five years, Sasha,” Firoz said with an almost huff. “And their response? Silence. I am allowed a petty moment or two.”
“Suit yourself,” Sasha responded, tempted to roll her eyes. The situation was so ridiculous and so conducive to making them smug, she knew this couldn’t be helped. “But our main question is how do we navigate this matter. I assume the Epsteans will eventually relay their needs. But if, suppose, one of them is injured, what should we consider doing? Their anatomy is fundamentally different than ours and we have very little information to help us aid them, anyway.”
“Shouldn’t they have a medic on-board?” Commander Smith asked. “As far as I remember, there was never an incident during the war when they had to retreat due to casualities. It was always because their machinery was harmed beyond salvage or we had destroyed their attack starships. I remember, at the time, my squadron leader theorizing that these Epsteans have no concept of medical treatment. Their bodies either recover naturally or they just... die.”
“That is in line with what we know of them through some of the things they shared back then,” Firoz said thoughtfully. “If a fatal wound isn’t the problem–”
Sasha made a concerned noise and they all looked at her.
Tearing her gaze away from her laptop screen, she said, “Another signal was received almost two minutes ago. This one said “we have an emergency” in all caps.”
“Emergency?” Commander Smith echoed dubiously. “The Epsteans? What kind of emergency are we talking? Could it be that someone is dying up there after all?”
“What if they are rogues?” Darcy put forth. “There were a few deserters amongst their ranks, weren’t there? I recall Planetary TV making a big show of it. Those Epsteans were chased by their own kind relentlessly and later punished according to their laws.”
“What kind of moron would think we humans would give them any different treatment?” Firoz asked, scoffing in disbelief. “Do the Epsteans in the spacecraft believe we will receive them with open arms and mercy?”
“Maybe it is not as grievous as any of that,” Sasha said, typing something on her keyboard. “Maybe they are just trying to hold our attention and get us to help them? It could be that they are out of whatever helps with their sustenance. They always wanted to mine our land for resources. It was and is a well-accepted hypothesis that they need some kind of metallic ore for survival.”
“In that case, the craft does not need to land on Earth,” Darcy said, glancing sideways at Commander Smith. “We can send our astronauts in a well-equipped ship and they can establish a more elaborate communication with the Epstean. If some metal or fuel is all they need, I agree that sending them right back is the safest path.”
“But not the cleverest,” Firoz said, his eyes gaining a faraway look. “I’ve been thinking, Dr. Sasha.”
Sasha set her laptop aside for a moment and regarded Firoz with both suspicion and interest, “Yes?”
“You said we know very little about the Epstean and their anatomy,” Firoz said, his voice level. “So why not use this as an opportunity to rectify that?”
A bout of silence spread over the table. The ones who had been merely observing so far–less-ranked officers and managing personnel–exchanged loaded looks amongst themselves while Sasha’s eyes narrowed at the implications of Firoz’s idea.
“What exactly are you suggesting, Mr. Amal?” Sasha asked archly.
“We study the Epstean,” Firoz said simply. “No more, no less.”
“By forcing them?” Darcy asked what they all wanted to.
“Not necessarily,” Firoz replied, aware that everyone was viewing him in a less than stellar light. “It could be a mutually beneficial exchange. Our help in return for our most excelling researchers and doctors and scientists getting a chance to satiate their curiosities regarding the Epsteans.”
“And if they say no?” Sasha asked.
“Then so do we,” Firoz replied.
“I can’t approve of this,” Sasha said, though she did have a contemplative mien about her. “But I would like to hear everyone else’s opinion. Commander Smith?”
“I think it is a plan worth considering,” said Smith, his hands entwined on the pristine white table before him. “We may never again get an opportunity like this. The Epsteans are unstable. They have not responded to our proposals towards a more permanent peace. Give it another decade and they may rise up once more. Knowing of their anatomical strengths and weaknesses will only benefit us should we come under attack again. And it will help us develop a... deterrant for any future conflicts, won’t it?”
“But the ethics–”
“We can’t apply human standards to the alien,” Firoz cut in. “Did they consider “ethics” before they bombed our settlements?”
Sasha quietened. When it came to those seated in this room, she was the one who had suffered the least at the hands of the Epstean. Her family was affluent and had the connections, during the war, to keep them safe. She still remembered attending her last years of college, hearing of tragedies secondhand, the explosives never reaching her vicinity. Even the aliens knew not to mess with the human elite.
“I think Firoz’s idea may have merit,” Darcy said, chewing on the thought. “But I suggest we assemble a board of professionals to organise a timeline that will dictate how we approach this unique contact with the Epsteans. Some kind of protocol. They might be aliens but they are still people. Besides, if we don’t operate by human standards, what good is our humanity?”
That brought a mildly twisted look to Firoz’s face but he seemed to have sobered up a little.
“I never quite liked the whole ‘Atiti Devo Bhava’ philosophy my country preached,” Firoz said, scrunching his nose. “But I suppose it is a valuable ideal to follow.”
“Doesn’t it mean something like the guest is God?” Darcy asked, blinking.
“Well, God might be a stretch,” Commander Smith said. “But we may treat them like very distant cousins whom we might hate but still play nice with.”
Sasha heaved a small sigh. If this plan got Commander Smith as well as Firoz to be more amicable towards the Epstean, she was inclined to vote for it.
After a few more rounds of discussion and necessary back-and-forth, the board carried out a vote and the plan to allow the Epstean spacecraft to land for further research on their bodies was set into motion.
The communication signal was sent to the spacecraft with clear instructions and a brief overview of what the human expectations were. Oddly enough, the Epsteans did not bother responding before starting their descent towards the ground. The news of this was not allowed to pass beyond the tight-knit group at the top–globally, this included the foremost politicians and the leading scientists–but an allowance was made for all the retired personnel who had contributed towards Earth’s victory in the war–as if their successors were sending them a “thank you” message. They could learn of this recent news, then point at the helpless Epsteans and have a small laugh.
One of these space war veterans was Ex-Commander Matthew, who came to the headquarters, charging in, demanding clearance. Sasha and the rest permitted his entrance, knowing how crucial he had been during the war. He was a hero for their world, one who they had all hailed high twenty five years ago.
He did not say anything upon arrival. Commander Smith tried to start conversation but Matthew, dressed in his slacks and polo t-shirt, would not speak. He watched all the proceedings with a keen eye, a shifty air around him. Everyone let him be, either getting the hint or being scared away by his silent glares.
It took six hours for the Epstean spacecraft to land in NASA’s spaceforce base. Unlike the launch of their battle-crafts, no one but a select few watched the landing. Sasha stood in the viewing gallery, wondering how this would change the course of interplanetary conflicts forever.
The alien spaceship before them was in pitiful shape, clearly at the last of its lifetime. The boosters sputtered and gave out entirely, the landing more than a bit bumpy. No one approached the craft. Radio communication was switched to verbal transmissions. A loudspeaker was also relaying the same message nearby.
“EXIT THE SHIP.”
“LOSE POSSESSION OF ALL WEAPONS.”
Commander Smith gripped the binoculars in his hand, raising them to his eyes. Sasha watched the zoomed in video feed on her tablet, Darcy and Firoz on each of her shoulders.
“Ready?” Firoz asked her.
Sasha nodded firmly.
The safety hatch opened up with a cloud of smoke. It obscured the entire area around the craft and a lone figure came stumbling out.
The first alarm bell rang when coughing was heard.
Epsteans did not cough.
The second was the silhouette that was familiar.
Epsteans were not humanoid.
The third was the voice, loud and desperate and unmistakably human, that said, “We are in danger!”
With a gust of wind, the smoke cleared and a man in his fifties, tall and worryingly thin, stood alone on the landing pad, screeching at them.
Officers stationed on the grounds rushed towards him once ordered, gathering his fainting form in their arms and they hauled him into the building on a gurney.
“... What?” Sasha said in a terrified whisper. “What does this mean?”
Commander Smith didn’t wait to respond. He rushed towards the medical facilities. Did he think this man was his brother? No, that couldn’t be. The Epsteans would never let their captives go.
“We are in danger,” Darcy repeated the warning, gulping. “Why was he in there? This does not make any sense!”
Firoz frowned at his boots, shaken to his core, “What the fuck is going on?! How did a human come in contact with an Epstean spacecraft?”
“We need to talk to him,” Sasha said, dizzy, walking out of the room, knowing she would be followed.
They reached the room where the man was being operated on. Commander Smith was standing stiffly outside, a grave expression on his face.
“We have found the identity of this person,” Commander Smith said. Lips pursed, he continued, “Henry Cain. He went missing twenty six years ago. He was thought to be abducted by the Epsteans.”
Darcy rested a hand on the Commander’s arm, knowing that he had only been hoping when he ran to meet the man.
“Was he sent back by the Epsteans?” Sasha asked. “Did he say anything?”
“No,” the Commander answered. “We are in the dark. Completely.”
Matthew had followed them there, a hard look on his face. He seemed to be deep in thought and Firoz was tempted to wheedle him into talking but the doctor exited the room that moment and informed them that Henry was in a stable condition and would be able to converse in a few minutes.
With steeled breaths and curiosity burning, they entered the room.
Henry was horribly emaciated. His entire body was littered with peculiar scars and marks. There was a lifelessness in his eyes that haunted the occupants of the room.
“We are in danger,” Henry said and Sasha finally allowed herself to accept that the “we” in Henry’s message were humans, not the Epsteans.
“How are we in danger, Henry?” Saha asked gently.
Henry showed no recognition at his name being used. He stared at her hollowly, his lips dried and torn, “They are coming. They are coming to kill us all.”
“Who is they?” Firoz asked and after a pause, he added, “The Epsteans?”
Henry shuddered in his position, crawling up and burrowing himself behind pillows and blankets. From behind the curtain of his sheets, he looked them all in the eye, his voice the mad ramble of someone who had already seen the future.
“They will kill humanity.”
“God,” Matthew spoke for the first time since he had shown up, walking tentatively towards Henry, his face crumpling completely. “What have the Epsteans done to you? What have we done to you?”
Commander Smith frowned at Matthew, “What do you mean “we”? Matthew, what the hell is going on here?”
Matthew turned to look Commander Smith in the eyes before chuckling. The awful sound soon turned into full blown laughter, hysterical first, and then profoundly sorrowful.
“Our sins have caught up to us, it seems,” Matthew said, turning his gaze towards Henry once more. “The Epsteans–they never abducted anyone. How could they? They did not have the capacity to land on Earth. Not discreetly, in any case.”
“You’re lying,” Commander Smith said faintly, imploring the rest with his eyes. “That does not make any sense. We all know what happened. Those filthy Epsteans–they kidnapped humans worldwide. They kidnapped my brother–”
“We kidnapped your brother,” Matthew interrupted with another broken laugh. “Remember how we said our scientists had developed completely automated battle-crafts able to go toe-to-toe with Epstean warships? Yeah, that was all bullshit. Those crafts we sent to war? They were manned.”
Commander Smith covered his mouth, realisation dawning on all of them with breathtaking clarity.
“Those that were abducted... They... You sent them?” Firoz asked, sounding like he didn’t ever want an answer.
Matthew nodded, a self deprecating smile on his face, “We didn’t need trained soldiers. Just average, competent people able to operate the machinery. Just sending people from the military would be destabilising–”
“Bullshit!” Commander Smith roared and lunged at Matthew, pushing him into a wall by his collar. Anger and grief swirled within him as he yelled, “You sent civilians to war! You sent them to die. You never had any contingency plans for the battle-crafts. The trip was always meant to be one-way. They were fodder for you, weren’t they?”
“No nation wanted their armies weakened,” Matthew bit out, struggling against Smith’s hold. “That was our only option.”
Firoz laughed incredulously, his reality shattered within the space of twelve hours. “You made us believe the Epsteans were the villains. The monsters who took away our people. But it was you scumbags all along!”
Sasha trembled in her place, completely at a loss at how to handle this situation. She looked at Henry, still cowering in the sheets, mumbling warnings over and over. How had this man survived the journey? What had happened to him over the years? If he had survived the final battle, why had he not returned sooner?
“What happened to the rest?” she knelt before Henry and asked, as soothingly as she could.
Henry looked at her, stopping his muttering for a moment, a confused expression on his face. “The rest?”
“Your companions in the battle-crafts?” she urged.
“Oh,” Henry said airily, looking at the ceiling. “They are gone.”
Sasha let out a breath. The room had quietened once more. Commander Smith had heard Henry and now he sat on the edge of the bed, head in his hands. Even Firoz didn’t have a quip to break the tension. Nothing could make this better.
Humanity had not been humane for a while.
“How do they plan to kill us, Henry?” Darcy asked. “What is their strategy?”
Henry’s lips stretched into a chilling smile.
“A virus,” he said, his eyes straying to the myriad of cuts on his arms, his gaze blank. “They made it. After they captured us and studied our bodies. A virus specially designed to kill only humans. And I,” he paused, tears forming in his eyes. “I was sent to spread it.”
Sasha collapsed on the other side of the bed, meeting Firoz’s stunned eyes, and she threw her head back and laughed.
______________________________________
This was a mad three hours. Explains the doomed plot. Anyway, this was super fun and I am gonna do this more often! This is a little inspired by 86 (the anime), so if anyone hasn’t watched it, please do! :))
In the future Mankind sends automated starships to fight an alien enemy for them. The robotic ships never returned, but the aliens eventually stopped attacking. Then one day a badly damaged alien ship was found entering human space, transmitting over and over again, "HELP".

Alcohol and Catering: Dubai has strict regulations around the consumption of alcohol. Be sure to check the regulations if you plan to serve alcohol at your event. Most venues will handle this, but it’s important to ensure compliance with local laws.
Cultural Sensitivities: Dubai is a cosmopolitan city but maintains its Islamic traditions. When planning events, especially social ones, it’s important to respect the cultural norms and practices. For example, dress codes and behavior should be considered, and planners must ensure their events align with local customs and practices.
6. Budgeting for an Event in Dubai
Dubai offers a wide range of options, but it is also known for being a high-end destination. Budgeting for an event in Dubai depends on the size and type of event, as well as the venue and services involved. Consider the following:
Venue Costs: Depending on the location, the cost of renting a venue can range significantly. Luxury hotels and resorts tend to be more expensive, while desert venues or unique locations might offer more affordable options.
Catering and Entertainment: Dubai offers top-tier catering and entertainment, but these services come at a premium. Budgeting for these elements is essential, especially for high-profile events.
Event Coordination Fees: Hiring an experienced event planner can add to your budget, but it also ensures that the event runs smoothly, saving you time and effort in managing every detail.
Conclusion
Event planning in Dubai offers a world of possibilities. Whether you are looking to host a corporate event, a glamorous wedding, or an intimate celebration, the city has everything you need to create a memorable experience. With its stunning venues, world-class services, and diverse options, Dubai is the perfect place to bring your event vision to life. Make sure to work with an experienced event planning team, take cultural considerations into account, and plan your budget wisely to ensure your event is a resounding success.

Record number of migrants reached Canary Islands by sea in 2024
The Canary Islands have broken the record for the second year in a row for the number of immigrant arrivals in 2024, according to figures provided by the Interior Ministry on Thursday.
The archipelago welcomed 46,843 people in 2024, up 17.4 per cent from 39,910 in 2023. Arrivals in Spain totalled 63,970, up 12.5 per cent from 56,852 in 2023. This figure is almost equal to the 2018 high of 64,298 people. The Canary Islands therefore accounted for just over 76 per cent of total arrivals.
In contrast, the number of migrants arriving via the mainland and the Balearic Islands fell by 6.5 per cent to 14,431. The number of people arriving by land via Ceuta and Melilla rose by 114.5 per cent to 2,647. The flow of people in the western Atlantic has put the migration debate at the centre of political strife. Especially around the 5,812 unaccompanied migrant minors in the archipelago’s custody.
Since the beginning of 2023, unlike earlier in the decade at the height of the pandemic, Pedro Sánchez’s government has accelerated the transfer of adults to different parts of Spain to avoid crowding in the archipelago. Custody of minors, however, remains with the autonomous government, which has so far been unable to reach a political agreement in Congress that would allow a reform of the aliens law and establish a system of compulsory distribution of minors among the autonomous communities. The Canarian government has doubled its network of resources to 86, according to official figures.
The Partido Popular (PP) is part of the government of the islands along with the Canary Coalition. On Monday, Canary Islands President Fernando Clavijo, in an interview with SER TV, lashed out at the government and the PP, accusing them of being “complicit” in maintaining the worrying situation in the Canaries. The Spanish leader said:
“The government, because it doesn’t intervene when it has the authority; and PP, because it blocks.”
This Thursday, Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory and former Canary Islands president Angel Victor Torres accused Clavijo of unfairly attacking the government in negotiations over the distribution of migrant minors because he wants to protect and not anger his partner in the regional executive, PP. He said:
“Clavijo governs with them. And in order to take care of them, not to anger and protect them, he is doing an injustice by attacking those who support him, that is the Spanish government. I think he is wrong, I say so.”
The PP national leadership has put Vox in the same bag as the central government to justify their stance on migration, where they remain true to their refusal to reform the foreigners law. PP national spokesperson Borja Semper said in statements to the media in Madrid:
“There are two irresponsible discourses. On the one hand is Pedro Sánchez, who says that immigration has no influence and must be dealt with as he sees fit; on the other hand is the irresponsibility of Vox, which says that the evil and origin of all the troubles that have hit Spain are linked to immigration. Sanchez and Vox share a common irresponsibility for the lack of a migration policy.”
The migration struggle has been at the centre of the debate for months. On July 23, the PP, along with Vox, voted against the consideration in the Congress of Deputies of a proposal drafted by the central government and the regional government – and supported in the regional chamber by PP itself. Since then, it has repeatedly left the negotiating table and blocked the conclusion of any agreements.
The most recent time was during the Conference of Presidents held in Santander earlier this month. The PP, threatened by Vox with any concession, has not moved an inch and has made its support conditional on the government fulfilling its demands on migration policy – the maximum demands that the executive has no intention of fulfilling.

When staying in a service apartment, you get the benefit of living like a local while enjoying all the conveniences of a hotel. The apartments are designed to offer home-like comfort, with fully furnished living spaces, including a kitchen, living room, bedroom(s), and bathroom. This setup provides guests with a greater sense of independence and flexibility compared to traditional hotel rooms.
Business travelers can enjoy dedicated workspaces with high-speed internet access, ergonomic chairs, and spacious desks, enabling them to stay productive even when away from their home office. Families, on the other hand, can enjoy the comfort of having a separate dining area, multiple bedrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen for home-cooked meals. With the added benefit of having a private space, service apartments also ensure more relaxation and less disturbance, which is particularly useful for those staying for long periods.

One of the biggest advantages of staying in service apartments is the ability to cook your own meals. The kitchens in service apartments come with modern appliances, including refrigerators, microwaves, induction cooktops, and dishwashers. How to Apply for a UK Tourist Visa from India
The United Kingdom is one of the most popular destinations for travelers worldwide, offering a rich blend of history, culture, and world-famous landmarks. Whether you're planning a vacation, visiting friends or family, or attending an event, securing a UK tourist visa is the first step in making your travel dreams come true. If you're an Indian citizen and wish to apply for a UK tourist visa, the process can seem daunting, but with the right information and preparation, it can be a smooth and straightforward experience. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you apply for a UK tourist visa from India.
1. Understand the Types of UK Tourist Visas
The first step in applying for a UK tourist visa is to determine which type of visa you need. For most travelers, the Standard Visitor Visa is the most common type. This visa is suitable for tourism, visiting friends or family, or attending events like conferences or weddings. If your purpose of travel is different, such as business or medical treatment, there are specific visas available for those purposes as well. Understanding the correct visa type is crucial before proceeding with your application.
2. Complete the Online Application Form
The application process for a UK tourist visa begins by filling out the online visa application form, known as Visa4UK. Visit the official UK Government website and complete the visa application form with accurate details about your travel plans, personal information, and any previous travel history. Ensure that all the information you provide is correct, as any errors could delay the processing or lead to a rejection.
3. Pay the Visa Fee
Once you’ve completed the application form, you will need to pay the visa fee online. The fee for a standard UK tourist visa is typically around £100, though the exact amount may vary depending on the length of stay. The payment must be made through an online payment gateway, using a valid credit or debit card. Keep a receipt of the payment as you will need it for your records.
4. Gather the Required Documents
To support your visa application, you will need to provide several essential documents. These may include:
Valid Passport: Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date of your intended arrival in the UK.
Passport-sized Photographs: Recent color photographs that meet the UK visa specifications.
Proof of Financial Stability: Bank statements for the last 6 months, pay slips, or other evidence of your ability to support yourself financially during your stay in the UK.
Travel Itinerary: A detailed plan of your trip, including accommodation bookings and flight details.
Accommodation Details: If you're staying with friends or family, a letter of invitation from them, along with their address and details.
Cover Letter: A personal cover letter stating the purpose of your visit, your travel plans, and your commitment to returning to India after your stay.
Ensure that all documents are authentic and clearly readable. Any missing or fraudulent documents can lead to delays or rejection of your application.
5. Book an Appointment for Biometrics
Once you’ve submitted your online application and gathered all your documents, you need to book an appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) in India. At this appointment, you will provide your biometric information (fingerprints and photograph). The appointment can be booked online through the UK visa application website.
6. Attend the Visa Interview (If Required)
In some cases, applicants may be required to attend a visa interview. While not mandatory for every applicant, you should be prepared to answer questions regarding your travel history, financial situation, and the purpose of your visit. Be honest and straightforward during the interview, as this will help establish your credibility.
7. Wait for the Decision
Once your biometric appointment and any interviews are completed, your visa application will be processed. The processing time for a UK tourist visa is typically around 15-20 working days, but it may vary depending on the time of year and the volume of applications. You can track the status of your application online.
8. Receive Your Visa
If your visa is approved, your passport with the visa will be returned to you. If your application is rejected, you will receive a detailed explanation, and you can appeal or reapply if necessary.
Conclusion
Applying for a UK tourist visa from India involves several steps, including completing an online application, submitting required documents, attending biometrics, and waiting for the final decision. With proper preparation and the right guidance, you can increase your chances of a successful visa application. Always ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria, provide genuine documents, and apply well in advance to avoid last-minute hassles.

NJ cops demand protections against data brokers
.pp-multiple-authors-boxes-wrapper display:none; img width:100%;
Privacy laws in the United States are a patchwork at best. More often than not, they miss the mark, leaving most people with little actual privacy. When such laws are enacted, they can seem tailored to protect those in positions of power.
Even laws designed to protect crime victims might end up protecting the names of abusive officers by labelling them as victims of crime in cases like resisting arrest or assaulting an officer. Such accusations are often used in cases of excessive force, keeping cops’ names out of the spotlight.
For example, a recent New Jersey law emerged from a tragic event in which a government employee faced violence, sparking a legislative response. Known as “Daniel’s Law,” it was created after the personal information of a federal judge’s family was used by a murderer to track them down. Instead of a broader privacy law that could protect all residents of New Jersey, it focused exclusively on safeguarding certain public employees.
Under the law, judges, prosecutors, and police officers can request that their personal information (addresses and phone numbers, for example) be scrubbed from public databases. Popular services that people use to look up information, such as Whitepages or Spokeo, must comply. While this sounds like a win for privacy, the protections stop there. The average citizen is still left exposed, with no legal recourse if their personal data is misused or sold.
At the centre of the debate is a lawyer who’s taken up the cause of protecting cops’ personal data. He’s suing numerous companies for making this type of information accessible. While noble at first glance, a deeper look raises questions.
It transpires that the lawyer’s company has previously collected and monetised personal data. And when a data service responded to his demands by freezing access to some of the firm’s databases, he and his clients cried foul — despite specifically requesting restrictions on how their information could be used.
It’s also worth noting how unevenly data protection measures are to be applied. Cops, for instance, frequently rely on the same tools and databases they’re now asking to be restricted. These services have long been used by law enforcement for investigations and running background checks. Yet, when law enforcement data appears in such systems, special treatment is required.
A recent anecdote involved a police union leader who was shown a simple property record pulled from an online database. The record displayed basic details like his home address and his property’s square footage — information anyone could find with a few clicks. His reaction was one of shock and anger – an obvious disconnect.
For everyday citizens, this level of data exposure is a given. But for law enforcement, it requires a level of granular exclusion that’s not practical.
Perhaps everyone, including law enforcement personnel deserves better safeguards against data harvesting and misuse? But what Daniel’s law and later events involving police officers point to is the need for the type of improvements to the way data is treated for all, not just one group of society.
Instead of expanding privacy rights to all New Jersey residents, the law carves out exceptions for the powerful — leaving the rest of the population as vulnerable as ever.
