tumblr bitches try to be normal about taylor swift challenge (IMPOSSIBLE!!!!)
“She’s not a tortured poet, she’s a billionaire!🤓☝️”
i did not expect people on TUMBLR of all places to make shitty, insensitive, misinformed comments about mental health and the ways it can devastate ANYONES life.
Not liking her music is one thing but y’all will find ANY EXCUSE to justify your biases concerning talented women in the music industry. same mfs who preach about feminism and how taylor swift is somehow its antithesis will endorse hole as a great feminist band in the same breath.
you aren’t bettering the lives of minorities by denouncing taylor swift’s music. you’re not partaking in a revolution. you just come across extremely bitter.
you guys aren’t activists. revelling in your own hypocrisy isn’t cute.
#very different from my regular posts#but i need y’all tumblr mfs to realize that hating on taylor swift in order to put up a pretense of hyperindividualism is odd#you guys have deluded yourselves into thinking that disliking her is an unpopular opinion that somehow makes you a free thinker#like bfr#i can count the swifties in my school on maybe 2 hands#and thats it#the most famous woman in the world today has just as many haters as she does fans#and its time u realized that#anyways let her live#shes being as honest as she can on this album and o think thats lovely#its very evident that it was an album she made more for herself which i really respect tbh#ALSO IDC IF U DONT LIKE HER MUSIC#its not for everyone obv#but your attitude about it matters#just goes to show that nobody can handle a woman excelling above everyone else#its just so hypocritical#idk#taylor swift#the tortured poets department#ts ttpd#ts11

Idk if anyone has heard the Love Story x The Alchemy mashup but it’s what you need to play to bring me back from the dead if I ever die. Btw
#it’s the alchemy with love story production and why does it go SO HARD#‘where’s the trophy HE JUST COMES RUNNING OVER TO ME (loud guitar)’ genuinely the most euphoric thing i’ve ever heard#makes me wonder how many more of these songs i’d absolutely love if the production was better tbh#(not that i don’t love ttpd. i do. i’m obsessed with it. but the production could be more exciting honestly#especially on most of the anthology. these are lyric-heavy songs and sometimes the lyrics don’t hit hard enough#because you’re dozing off because the production is not hitting!! i have to say it!!!! i’m sorry)

So obviously after the Joe breakup shit changed we had that ratty twatty and then suddenly travis. Like ratty twatty first of all made it seem like you know this person is like horrible yet you choose to be with him? Everyone called her (rightfully) out I feel like cause he is really a twat of a person and the whole ice spice collab to basically "save" Matty twattys image. I also felt like it was unfair of her fans to force her to break up with him I mean it's her life. And Joe during this time went through so much shit after the break up I remember he was papped and everyone made fun of how skinny he is and how horrible he looks (he had bags under his eyes on the photo) which is actually sad cause he lost his grandmother I think during that time and people were genuinely saying disgusting things and saying mother is looking so much better etc etc while Joe was having a downwards spiral. Again I understand no one knew his depression was that bad but fuck swifties can be more kind.
Exit ratty twatty enter travesty lord this man gives me the ick.
Swifties are blinded by their relationship but he is really not a good dude. I mean that video live of him pushing his coach and yelling? Videos online of him being openly racist, being a trump supporter (and also swifties are dumb they think bc he got vaccinated and bent the knee for black lives matter he is somehow Democrat?) honey trump is vaccinated as well. And just because he supported blm does not make him a good person. He was PAID to do all that performative shit.
I mean she has millions of fans, thousands of young girls thinking the blatant red flags of travesty is hot and shit. Tells me he can push her around too. (not to mention he supported his abusive friend that literally hit his wife.)
And it feels like she's forcing travesty tbh? Like girlie you wanted the art to be about you yet you let some man overshadow it. Because truly that's what's happening like swifties are more into him at this point and the relationship they made up in their head as Taylor.
This is where I got annoyed and took a step back. Each time they were seen Joe got thousands and thousands of hate just for what being introverted?
Then they attacked Emma (Joe's Co worker) for a cheating rumor THEY MADE UP and the shit they said were so genuinely disgusting she had to switch off her comments.
Then Ai audio dropped about Joe abusing Taylor and Ai videos circled making it seem like Joe is a cheater when he is NOT. fuck they even trended a sex scene with that Alison chick he worked with saying he said Alison (her real name) and not her character's name when he DID NOT. It was in the fucking series! This woman got slut shamed so bad she turned off comments too for literally WORKING with Joe. Swifties literally spread shit around that he cheated on Taylor with Emma and Alison when he didn't! And the fucking best of all Taylor was on the set while filming conversations with friends. She most likely saw it IN PERSON and they chose to say all this genuinely disgusting shit about Alison who I've learned is actually a pretty good person.
Here I got genuinely disgusted.
So okay again I understand that Taylor can't control all her fans but her silence while her cult mass harrases people?
Whats insane to me is Joe. Like the guy got so much hate because SHE CHOSE to lead fans on. When she announced ttpd everyone thought the title relates to Joe and Paul mescal
Joe got mass hate
Then the secret songs at eras being about cheating
Joe got death threats
ALL TO BE AN ALBUM ABOUT THE FUCKING SEWER RAT SHE CAN'T GET OVER?!
she literally took ALL the hate against Joe *knowing* she's releasing an album dissing her 6 weeks situationship is genuinely disgusting. I cannot fathom it.
And AND the only thing she could say about Joe is dude did not want to marry her bc he was severely depressed WHICH IS NOT HER PLACE TO TALK ABOUT HIS STRUGGLES?
like I am SORRY this man wants to d word next to her and she just didn't care and wanted to fuck Matty?
Her partner, that got her through her darkest times BTW, did not deserve this.
She let all this mass harrasment just happen to market ttpd. Like genuinely what the actual fuck. 2 innocent women Emma and Alison were attacked and called sluts for genuinely existing and breathing the same air as Joe. And the proof he did not cheat is in her OWN lyrics. (which swifties cannot seem to fucking read bc they'd rather attack Joe than admit this album is about a sewer nazi rat)
The hate Joe got made me cry. The disgusting things they said about him. Swifties literally threatening to bash his head in with a hammer or that he needs to hang himself and they'd enjoy seeing his body swinging from the roof.
Genuinely why would any person say this to anyone at any time?
And they made fun of depression like. What. The. Fuck. Just because Joe might not see it does not mean other people with crippling depression won't.
Oh and a side note she's still bringing up Kim on albums? Not just Kim Kim's CHILD?! leave the kid alone.
Genuinely feel like the most honest Taylor we got was during lover (a time which Joe helped her voice her political opinions and shit) and idk I just feel cheated on?
My whole life I've defended Taylor against everyone and I genuinely feel like she's showing her true colors now being with travesty and ratty and I cannot fathom how this is the same Taylor I'm seeing now as she was like a few years ago.
And it's not just Joe that got death threats BTW. When midnights came out and everyone gave honest reviews cause that evil Jack antonof little gay man ruined the production there were journalists literally getting so much death threats its insane.
Taylor gets (rightfully) called out and fans can't handle it.
She needs to address them ASAP. All these parasocial freaks. The people harrasing Joe. The people literally only seeing Taylor as a breeder for travestys children.
I can't genuinely I can't this is not how I want to feel about Taylor I mean I gave her my youth I looked up to her so much I feel so disappointed in the way she's acting yk?
Yes maybe she can't do jack shit about swifties but she can try.
And her staying quiet over Palestine? Her voice her one post about a ceasefire could change EVERYTHING.
idk at this point I can't stand to be around Taylor.

I think a lot of his fans want to believe that the whole thing was this 10 year fated love affair because the guy just straight up sucks if we’re being honest. And being with Taylor was about to be his one redeemable quality and it was taken from them. They feel like she’s so relatable and if she loves him then they also have something in common with the most famous person on earth. There’s no part of that album that makes me think that she believes he’s a good person. Even before getting to smallest man, how does a person listen to I can fix him or even the title track and conclude that she thought he was great? She thought he was terrible, but fixable or at best mildly tolerable.
I feel like he’s just a classically self destructive man who crashes his way in and out of people’s lives. It’s not even that he’s being insincere. He’s just has no depth or direction and tries to create it by being an edgelord. He likes attention. He wants to be seen and talked about. But he knows the substance isn’t there and does all he can to create that substance. And that’s why he set his sights on Taylor. He’s probably extremely happy that Maylors exist and created this whole “lore”. It’s funny because he somehow also has incredibly thin skin and cries wolf when people figure him out. So he ghosted when he knew he was being found out for his inadequacies by everyone including Taylor.
this is a pretty good summary of how i feel about him tbh. I don’t like to reduce a person like that, because I’m sure he has his redeeming qualities that make him so likable to a lot of people, but the big picture is just sad. he’s really sensitive and abrasive at the same time.
side note, but the way she sprinkles hints of how horrible he is all over ttpd is so masterful. that’s why tsmwel and the epilogue work so well.

yellowjackets as taylor swift albums (I'm bored). this became deeper than I meant for it to go OMG. whoops, anyways, enjoy:
1. tai: reputation. oh my god this girl is soooo in love with van, and at the end of the day, that's what reputation is. a love album. yeah it's got a little revenge in it, but overall, it's about being in love with someone who was there for you at your most vulnerable. and who's always been there for tai, adult AND teen timeline? VAN!
2. van: 1989! it's nostalgic, fun, iconic but still has the emotional rawness that flows throughout all of taylor's albums. everyone thinks 1989 is just heaps of fun, but it has this emotional intensity to it that once you look closer to it, you realise how much of a masterpiece it is. also, it just gives me van vibes tbh.
3. jackie: lover. she's so insecure about being in a relationship with who she thinks is the love of her life (shauna) in case she fucks it up (spoiler alert, she does). taylor also wrote this album as a last hurrah, to prove she had more stories to tell, and I think that ties in nicely to jackie's character. her insecurity forces her to try and prove herself to shauna, and show her best friend how much she loves her.
4. shauna: she's a red girlie. taylor's most emotionally raw album (besides ttpd) and she just gives the vibes. this is taylor's first heartbreak album (like how jackie's death was shauna's first heartbreak), and it's so intense that it takes a few listens to understand, but once you do, you realise it's an album about a girl with big heart learning how to recover from the devastation of losing someone she loves deeply.
5. lottie: folklore!! I love my little baby. this album was written in isolation, and you can definitely hear it in some of taylor's lyrics, and I just feel like that's lottie's character. the isolated girl who's held up to a higher standard than everyone else.
6. nat: ttpd. okay, i was tossing up between giving this to nat or travis, but then I remembered the adult timeline and went with nat. when I first heard this album, it reminded me of her purposeless speech. it's also an album where taylor was going through a manic phase, and if that isn't nat, I don't know what is. she's just lost the love of her life, and then she's kidnapped by lottie's cult and promised so many wonderful things, that she believes it—only for it to end in tragedy.
7. misty: she gives off such speak now vibes. she has so much she wants to prove, and she's reeling from being in love with a man much older than her.
8. travis: evermore. he's such a tragic little guy, that the album suits him. I really just think of happiness, marjorie and right where you left me because he's stuck in the past. he literally kills himself (accidentally I know, I know) because he's so trapped in the wilderness despite being free from it. this album has always given me: depressed sad, compared to its sister albume: folklore, which gives me angry sad. and while he's definitely more angry then lottie, he's got this deep sadness in him that echoes evermore.
9. mari: midnights. okay I don't know how to explain it better than this is how I interpret mari. she's the first to throw herself into believing lottie because she's scared and when I think of midnights, I think of how scared taylor was at losing her relationship and joe that she ignores her feelings. and mari ignores her feelings because if she really thinks about it, I don't think she'd be able to handle herself, i.e. being trapped in the woods, eating jackie.
10. javi: taylor swift (debut). just the innocence and naïvety of the album. it's her first album, she wrote and released at 15/16 so there's a lot of childish beliefs and hopes, which I think javi has—but there's still an underlying feeling of heartbreak. he tries to be a kid, but is still traumatised.
11. laura lee: fearless!! this is purely based on the album title. I mean, learning to fly a plane just to save her friends? this album is probably my least favourite, so you're not going to get a lot of analysis, but the few times I've listened to it, I understand it's about having faith things will work out (this might be wrong, but that's what I'm choosing to believe about it). and her faith makes her believe she can do anything, including save her friends. omg I love her so much <333

i was just reading some of the ttpd explanations taylor has given and the who’s afraid of little old me? one made me think tbh…
today’s society really does view art as a piece of content we should judge and buy rather than as a carefully crafted creation that reflects the artist’s feelings and the critics for TTPD are a reflection of that, where they judge everything about her, from her private life to the fact that she chose to work again with aaron and jack.
that’s taylor’s most vulnerable work imho and she has the full right to choose to make something raw instead of glittery pop songs about how she’s so happy and wants to dance while she’s actually going through an insanely rough time.
that album has some of her most complex writing and heart wrenching lyrics to date, and instead of taking time to appreciate that she has chosen to be this honest, those reviews and people online have disregarded her music and tried to diminish her talent as a songwriter, they have brought up ex boyfriends from 16 years ago, they have criticized the length of the album, reduced songs like imgonnagetyouback as “the one that borrows its premise from olivia rodrigo, but executes it less skillfully” and i hate it here as “the one with that weird lyric about racism in the 1830s”.
this industry doesn’t really let artists write what they want to write anymore, they want them to produce content that they KNOW people will buy. the public usually enjoys happy pop songs, right? good, make that. we don’t care if you feel like killing yourself, sing about how fun parties are and how you’re so in love with your partner over a fun pop beat because it’s what people like.
#taylor swift#ttpd#the tortured poets department#this one is from the drafts#long ass post i’m sorry#and don’t get me started on wanting her to reinvent herself AGAIN because people ‘are tired of the synth pop sound’#.txt

average rating for midnights (standard): 7,73/10
average rating for midnights (the entire thing): 7,76/10
highest rated song: would've could've should've 9,5/10
lowest rated song: glitch 3/10
this one was so nostalgic! it took me back to autumn 2022, it really was the soundtrack of that year for me. i also realized i really like midnights! it feels very consistent and tight, even if it's long (maybe i'm just comparing it to ttpd). even if some songs are just meh to me, overall it's a good album. i don't have many thoughts about it tho!
lavender haze: not bad, but not really my thing. i kind of disliked it on a first listen and now i just don't reach for it much, but it's not bad. 6,8/10
maroon: used to be a fave but i don't reach for it much. i love how it sounds but some of the lyrics are a bit clunky to me 7/10
anti-hero: i like this one! i love how the verses before the chorus sound. 7,9/10
snow on the beach: i love this one and i heard it live :') i love the production, and the outro is gorgeous 8/10
you're on your own, kid: oh yoyok.... so swiftian. i don't reach for it much anymore but it saved me in my year abroad. it's one of those songs everyone feels were written for them. 9,2/10
midnight rain: i hated this one on a first listen but now i actually like it, i love the story it tells and i think it's one of the main tracks of the album. 7,5/10
question...?: oh question <3. i don't love this one even if at some point it was very relatable to me 4/10
vigilante shit: is it a very good song? not really. do the lyrics make me cringe a lil? yea. but it slaps, and the live version is so fun. 6/10
bejeweled: i'm not a big pop person but i love this track ajhdf it's fun, a little silly and the production is great, very quirky! 8/10
labyrinth: it's a very personal song to me tbh... as someone who's very anxious this song feels like it came from my brain. 9,2/10
karma: reminds me of my eras show! very uplifting, makes me think of my exfriends. i do keep my side of the street and they wouldn't know what that means <3 9/10
sweet nothing: sweet nothing get behind me!! i love this song, i find it super sweet, and even if her relationship ended it doesn't mean all the songs written for it are toxic or whatever. 9/10
mastermind: this was my most listened to song last year lmao. the production tickles my brain in all the right ways. love it! 8,9/10
the great war: i love this song so so much. the images are beautiful, and i love the drums in the production. really good song, one of my favorites 9,4/10
bigger than the whole sky: it feels a bit weird to rate this one ngl... it's so so sad, and the production is beautiful. 9/10
paris: another of the fun pop ones lmao. i didn't love it at first but it's so funny and i do actually listen to it a lot lol. 8,2/10
high infidelity: ouch. this song hurts me deeply for some reason. i love the specific details, the april 29th of it all... 9,3/10
glitch: thank god this one is short lol. the worst one on the album lol 3/10
would've, could've, should've: all timer. there isn't much i can say about this one that hasn't been said before. one of her best 9,5/10
dear reader: listening to this one knowing what we know now... oof. it does bore me a little bit, and tbh i only like the bridge 5,8/10
hits different: it's a fun bop! i loved it before it was on spotify and then when it came i just. never listened to it lol. cried over a hat lyric of all time jsdhf 7/10
you're losing me: man. this one breaks my heart. 9/10
#aaa as always do send me your thoughts#even if it's not rated very highly (i'm strict lol) i really enjoyed listening to this one#ts ranked#the thing ab midnights is that it's most interesting in conjunction with ttpd#imo lol

feel free to ignore this if you don’t want to discuss but from your post about her album am I right to assume that you enjoyed the initial album better than the anthology half? asking because while your analysis was so on point and i agreed with most everything, i strongly prefer the anthology songs to the main album
oh yeah you're right to assume that! that's basically what that all amounts to. I think the album proper, initial album, original album, whatever you wanna call it, is really solid and i like it as a single piece. I only really like 5 songs off of the anthology additional songs i think that i listed in my repeat songs, so i didn't really enjoy it all that much. and tbh i didn't like ALL of the initial album, i skip a handful of songs, but i like most of it! and i think the anthology is superfluous for the most part, personally.
I will say that i can recognize a few of them as objectively good but they just don't work for me. like i think the manuscript is good conceptually and when it hits, it hits, but it's execution lacks for me and it's clunky at the start and takes a bit to get going so i don't return to it often. the bolter i enjoy, but idk it just doesn't hit. no idea why because it has all the components that i'd like but idk! maybe i need to wait for that one to hit me. i find my attention drifting while listening to that and that's not a good sign lol. I think the reason the rest don't grip me is that they just retread topics or concepts she's done way better than she does here, but not as well or the novelty of the concept doesn't work twice. that isn't always a deterrent, and sometimes a sequel to a previous song is interesting to me as she gains new perspectives on a topic, like Clara Bow. other times I just feel like she got all the good material out in the first go around and it just feels kind of like these are the scraps. not bad though, like i don't think they're bad songs and even her scraps are always delicious. if the originals of those didn't exist, then I'd probably enjoy them more, but alas they do exist and they imprinted on me first.
but that's just my opinion based on what clicks with me, which is totally subjective and i'm glad you enjoy the anthology songs more than me! there's a lot of ttpd to enjoy and it seems everyone has different songs that speak to them, so that's a marker of success in a way as well.

Hiiiiii bestie 💖 i heard dance fever for the first time and it's sooo sooo good. I'm so excited for florida!!! Also I loved so many songs but the bomb and morning elvis are i think my no. 1 but also my love, free, daffodil and cassandra are like my no. 2 😂 loved every song tbh (i wonder if there will be something like the bomb on ttpd)
I’m so glad you enjoyed it 🥹 It’s my favorite Flo’s album alongside HBHBHB. I love all of the songs you mentioned, especially Cassandra, Daffodil and My Love, they do something to me everytime I listen to them. Also Restraint, it’s short but man, does it hit. I love me a vampiric female rage song.
Oooh I see what you mean by The Bomb, I can see it, yeah! Also about their collab, if Taylor decided to keep the “essence” of Florence, I wonder which route would they take: more mellow/down to earth song or ritual/inner exorcism type of song like Which Witch, Choreomania, Shake it out... Whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll be awesome <3
🥰 Cause I see you loved Morning Elvis and The Bomb the most, I’ll gladly recommend you to check out these three songs that are some of my absolute favorites of hers: St. Jude (this is SO Taylor and Joe), Various Storms and Saints and The End of Love. The first two are from HBHBHB and the third one is from High as Hope

bc talk-your-talk-verse kayla's birthday is april fools, and today is april 1, i have to share my hc's of her music taste
i think the only thing i mentioned already is her being an arianator, which is still very very canon. most of all, i think the funny thing is that, despite being a lesbian, she absolutely LOVES a straight girl breakup anthem. thank u next by ariana, you're just a boy (and i'm kinda the man), lost the breakup, and BSC by maisie peters, sue me and feather by sabrina carpenter are what automatically come to mind
that's not to say she doesn't listen to queer artists, because she definitely does. girl in red and sabrina carpenter just released a collab which she would LOVE. also, she's the biggest renee rapp fan to ever exist. from what i've seen (even though i don't listen to her) i think she'd like chappell roan too
honestly she just really loves upbeat pop music. she's the #1 pop stan of the household, even though nico and will occasionally listen to it (and apollo-ish), but she just loves every pop girl (aka, she is me) - she needs music to be able to work out to, and also just absolutely slays at karaoke. one of my fave hc's is that despite focusing on archery, she has an incredible voice - she'll sing the high notes of dangerous woman just bc she can, and she does it easily
other than that, other songs that i listen to when thinking of songs kayla would like are
greedy (both the ariana grande song and the tate mcrae song)
looking at me by sabrina carpenter
all american bitch, ballad of a homeschooled girl, and good 4 u by olivia rodrigo
guy on a horse by maisie peters
pretty girls and not my fault by renee rapp (and anything else by her)
she claims she's not a swiftie specifically to antagonize will but def loves blank space/i did something bad/ready for it. will and her get oddly competitive (as those two fandoms do... which coming from an arianator and swiftie is very annoying tbh) but it's all lighthearted, even when they take the success of eternal sunshine vs ttpd as a personal competition
she is also one of those people that doesn't make separate playlists, but instead just puts her liked songs on repeat. i know, it's horrifying, but i think she definitely does it
anyway, happy birthday kayla <3

i don't think it is internet nonsense when critics were mad at her while reviewing her work
TBH I have no idea what critics said because I didn't read any reviews of TTPD or keep up with them.
My comment was about the reaction in online spaces which I do think is internet nonsense because it's an echo chamber turning everything into a tempest in a teapot. People get themselves so worked up over things and create these fan wars or whatever is happening.
And because Taylor is the most famous woman on the planet right now, sometimes media or other online influencers will pick up on the nonsense for clickbait and turn it into a story when nobody would care in any other situation. But ultimately, it has no bearing on her work, or her sales, or her core fan base. But imo it does just make fan spaces less friendly and engaging to participate in.
I don't know where I was going with this, I just cannot underscore enough, as always, that Twitter and the like are not real.

Regarding that music reblog can u drop some music recommendations 🙏🙏🙏
ABSOLUTELY I LOVE THIS QUESTION the day has finally come when someone has asked me for music recs 🤞🤞 (i didn't know what to start with so ur gonna get a bunch of random artists i like)
also if anyone wants to ask for recs for anything at all (like books, fics, writers, etc.) pls ask!! i love sharing 🥳
beabadoobee — i love love love her new album this is how tomorrow goes, its 10/10 and every time she makes rock music adjacent she never fails to eat down and devour. my recs for her are beaches, take a bite, cologne, talk and ripples because they all have a sort of nostalgic vibe. like they're somehow so familiar even though you've never heard them before. i love beabadoobee she's so good at what she does.
hozier — okay i know he's lowkey middle aged woman core but his lyricism AND production are literally unmatched i get why the lesbians love him. I'd recommend dinner and diatribes, jackie and wilson, northern attitude (by noah kahan ft hozier), angel of small death and the codeine scene and movement 🙏 his music makes me absolutely ascend to a different plane of existence.
laufey — call me a basic asian all you want but laufey synthesises older jazz/classical sound with modern lyricism and structure and creates something so beautiful i love her so much and i regret missing out on her concert tickets every day. i love love love night light, must be love, let you break my heart again, dreamer and lovesick, all her instrumentals never miss. her songwriting is also top notch and gives young, dumb and in love energy ykwim 😍
taylor swift — HEAR ME OUT her new album specifically the anthology half of ttpd has like no skips and i will die on this hill. her older music is good too but i am here to talk about the anthology. the anthology has 10/10 songwriting and minimal production which makes the lyrics stand out more and i love it. i'd recommend the black dog, the prophecy, how did it end and peter because they make me want to scream and cry tbh. also good inspo for fic writing LOL
billie eilish — i have been a fan of hers since my emo phase in 2018 and i can confirm that finneas' production is genius. honestly i recommend the entirety of hit me hard and soft because it was meant to be listened to continuously with all the melodic motifs and lyrical motifs but yeah. also no time to die was a cultural shift that changed my brains hardwiring.
chase atlantic — okay wild 360 from billie eilish and soft ballads (and this artist has lowkey been ruined for me by a certain someone..) but they do have bangers 🎉 i love heaven and back, right here, die for me and dancer in the dark, their music is really sexual though so uh parental guidance 🤞
the neighbourhood — i love love love the vibe of their discography and even though their music might be counted as "tiktok" music because of some of their popular songs they're still so good. I recommend reflections, compass, devil's advocate and stargazing. introspective kinda vibes with their music yk.
the arctic monkeys — I LOVE THEM AND i regret not going to their tour every single hour. alex turner might be a grandpa but i love his accent in his songs and the production is literally liquid gold. pls listen to stop the world i wanna get off with you, snap out of it, fluorescent adolescent, you're so dark, one for the road, and honestly their entire AM album. It's their most popular for a good reason i fear.
i feel like i've rambled way too much but i do have more if you'd like. can you tell i'm a mainstream music kinda person with a couple less popular artists 😭😭 ANYWAY THANK YOU FOR ASKING I LOVE SHARING MUSIC AND DISCUSSING MUSIC ITS THAT INNER MUSIC NERD WITHIN ME if you'd like classical music recs however i'd be too scared to say anything at fear of invoking the wrath of my other classically trained musicians

I know a lot of people (and I think you do too?) think ttpd is a half baked/early draft album with songs that sound unfinished and shouldn’t have been put on the album and I’m just wondering what songs you think those are?
for me it’s definitely fortnight & ttpd. to me they aren’t terrible songs but it’s like they’re missing something (fortnight) or should’ve had something taken away in them (ttpd) lol
and I don’t listen to the songs I don’t like enough to know whether they are objectively good songs and I just don’t like them or if they’re the half baked ones.
tbh i really haven’t touched that album for a long time so all i have to go off of is the first couple of listens. i also think it would be easier if i told you the ones that dont feel like first drafts lol, bc most of the album does.
i think down bad, so long london, loml, icdiwabh, smallest man, clara bow, how did it end, and people’s windows. there’s a good ep in that 31 track album.

What other songs on TTPD do you think are Bonrad??
okay i’ll do what i did for 1989 so this list goes from 'the entire song fits them so perfectly it hurts' to 'most/some of the song fits but i'm still sobbing' to 'this specific lyric punched me in the face'
most of these are about their break-up era re: conrad’s self-sabotaging and belly’s inability to get over conrad while she’s with someone else… also tbh much of this album is more 🪼 with all of the allusions to cheating and toxic relationships lmao
the alchemy, so high school, fresh out the slammer, guilty as sin, i hate it here, i look in people’s windows, fortnight, the tortured poets department, the albatross, my boy only breaks his favorite toys, the prophecy, down bad, so long london
once again choosing the best lyrics from each
1. the alchemy
This happens once every few lifetimes These chemicals hit me like white wine What if I told you I'm back? The hospital was a drag, worst sleep that I ever end I circled you on a map I haven't come around in so long But I'm making a comeback to where I belong Cause the sign on your heart said it's still reserved for me Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?
2. so high school
I feel so high school every time I look at you I wanna find you in a crowd just to hide from you And in a blink of a crinkling eye I'm sinking, our fingers entwined Cheeks pink in the twinkling lights Tell me 'bout the first time you saw me No one's ever had me, not like you You knew what you wanted and boy you got her
3. fresh out the slammer
But it's gonna be alright, I did my time Now pretty baby I'm runnin' back home to you Fresh out the slammer, I know who my first call will be to As I said in my letters, now that I know better I will never lose my baby again All those nights you kept me going Swirled you into all of my poems Now we're at the starting line, I did my time Now pretty baby I'm running to the house you still wait up and that porch light gleams To the one who says I'm the girl of his American dreams And no matter what I've done, it wouldn't matter anyway Ain't no way I'm gonna screw up now that I know what's at stake Here at the park where we used to sit on children's swings wearing imaginary rings
4. guilty as sin?
What if he's written "mine" on my upper thigh only in my mind One slip and falling back into the hedge maze, oh what a way to die I keep recalling things we never did Messy top lip kiss, how I long for our trysts My bedsheets are ablaze, I've screamed his name Building up like waves crashing over my grave Without ever touching his skin How can I be guilty as sin? If it's make believe Why does it feel like a vow we'll both uphold somehow? What if the way you hold me is actually what's holy? If long suffering propriety is what they want from me They don't know how you've haunted me so stunningly I choose you and me, religiously
5. i hate it here
All you'll ever be is my eternal consolation prize You see I was a debutant in another life but now I seem to be scared to go outside If comfort is a construct, I don't believe in good luck Now that I know what's what I hate it here (jeremy) so I will go to secret gardens (conrad) in my mind I'm there most of the year 'cause I hate it here I'm lonely but I'm good, I'm bitter but I swear I'm fine I'll save all my romanticism for my inner life and I'll get lost on purpose This place made me feel worthless Lucid dreams like electricity, the currents flies through me And in my fantasies I rise above it And way up there, I actually love it
6. i look in people’s windows
I had died the tiniest death, I spied the catch in your breath North bound I got carried away as you boarded your train south A feather taken by the wind blowing I'm afflicted by the not knowing You had stopped and tilted your head, I still ponder what it meant now I tried searching faces on streets, what are the chances you'd be downtown? Does it feel alright to not know me? I'm addicted to the "if only" I look in people's windows in case you're at their table What if your eyes looked up and met mine one more time
7. fortnight
And for a fortnight there we were forever Run into you sometime, ask about the weather Now you're in my backyard, turned into good neighbors Your wife waters flowers, I wanna kill her And for a fortnight there we were together Run into you sometimes, comment on my sweater Now at you're at my mailbox, turned into good neighbors My husband is cheating, I wanna kill him I love you, it's ruining my life I touched you for only a fortnight
8. the tortured poets department
But you're in self-sabotage mode Throwing spikes down on the road But I've seen this episode and still loved the show Who else decodes you? Sometimes I wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me So tell me, who else is gonna know me? At dinner, you take my ring off my middle finder And put it on the one people put wedding rings on And that's the closest I've come to my heart exploding
9. the albatross (role-reversal)
They tried to warn him her about her him Cross your thoughtless heart, only liquor anoints you She's He's the albatross, she he is here to destroy you So I crossed my thoughtless heart, spread my wings like a parachute I'm the albatross, I swept in at the rescue The devil that you know looks now more like an angel I'm the life you chose and all this terrible danger
10. my boy only breaks his favorite toys
Oh, here we go again, the voices in his head Called the rain to end our days of wild My boy only breaks his favorite toys I'm queen of sand castle he destroys He saw forever so he smashed it up Just say when, I'd play again He was my best friend, down at the sandlot I felt more when we played pretend than with all the kens Cause he took me out of my box, stole my tortured heart Left all these broken parts Told me I'm better off, but I'm not
11. the prophecy
Hand on the throttle, thought I caught lightning in a bottle Oh, but it's gone again And it was written, I got cursed like Eve got bittem Oh, was it punishment? Oh, still dream of him
12. down bad
Show me that this world is bigger than us Then sent me back where I came from For a moment I knew cosmic love Now I'm down bad crying at the gym
13. so long london
I kept calm and carried the weight of the rift Pulled him in tighter each time he was drifting away You sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days
bonus🪼: florida!!! (belly burying herself in her new relationship), i can fix him (no really i can) (spoiler alert no she can’t), the smallest man who ever lived (cheater alert!!), chloe or sam or sophia or marcus (cheater alert!!), the black dog (cheater alert!!)

Thoughts on ttpd ?
THANK YOU lmao.
incoming long ass raaaaaaant, wohoooooo
(anon who also asked me about what i liked and disliked i hope this could answer your question as well!!)
I think i need to give a bit of context of my first thoughts on it back when it was released: i disliked it. i thought the lyrics were clunky, the productions was super meh, the album's topic of discussion was just also incredibly meh.
i decided to give it a second chance bc i kept seeing my friends talk about certain points that were interesting and i also wanted to listen to the album in peace without some random weirdo screaming that x song was about joe alwyn or matty heally or her current boyfriend trevor.
I think i will start with the things that changed for the better for me:
The album is good. I think it's definitely an improvement from midnights and i think this time there's kiiiiind of a clear direction and purpose behind it rather than being a collection of songs about specific topics that kept her up at night or whatever, which tbh that was incredibly random but ok. The pacing of the album felt good, it's not too long yet not too short, there's a good balance between the songs and even tho some of them have a very mid production they're still fine, i can vibe with them and i can listen to them (except but daddy i love him, that shit is unnecessarily long) if they come up on shuffle. I think lyric wise there are really strong moments, some very mid and others that are quite weak but still there's not a song that's terrible or unbearable to listen to.
Some of the production elements are really good, i LOVE the violent drums on florida, i would kill to hear that song live. And while the production of little old me reminds me A LOT to a florence + the machine song it's really really good, the cellos and the overall bass scratches a part of my brain and it's so good. Her vocals are also really good and i know it's not her strength but i'm glad she included a bit of harmonies with her own voice in so long london, it contrasts so well with the rest of the song (aaron dessner my beloved)
It's definitely a grower and to some that's a good thing, for others it's a bad thing and for some others it doesn't mean anything. TO ME is 50/50, i think there are many layers we can discover each time but i also feel like the album once you start peeling them it falls short which brings me to the negatives: __________
It's still quite a superficial album to me imo. i think the concept is quite solid and had SO much potential yet once again she chose the easy way which is diluting it so it's appealing to everyone, which is fine! but at the same time it leaves me with this feeling of wondering what this album could've been if she really committed to it, if she really dived into the tortured poet concept and translated that into the songs. It makes me wonder if she could've skipped the anthology and sort of blend all of that and make small interludes that could convey the same feeling and explore the same narratives. It could've added WAY more layers, bc she could've added spoken word versions of some poems (which is my problem with taylor in this era, a poem is not a song and a song is not a poem and it seems that taylor swift does not know the difference) like she does with seven during the intro of folklore!! that could've been SO cool and way more enriching for the overall concept she wanted to create. Aaron's brother Bryce composed some pieces for the album i think and i wish taylor could've take more advantage of that. Aaron and Bryce both composed beautiful pieces for the movie Cyrano and this album could've had some of that. I know her strength is lyrics but sometimes just because an album has a shit ton of lyrics doesn't necessarily make it good. I do like that he produced most of the songs from the anthology and i do really like some songs like the albatross, the prophecy and i hate it here but the rest is just there. Again, transform the general concept of the anthology intro interludes, or just adding interludes would've made everything way more exciting. To sum up: i liked the album and i will still like it if i don't really think much of what could've been, which i think is something that i will have to stick with with this current taylor which sucks lmao but oh well i have other artists i can listen to. I don't think i see myself going back to the album but i do see myself listening to the songs i really liked more than once, it's just good, it fits maybe in the middle of my ranking.
