COLOURS: Symbolisms, Associations & Psychological Effects
Black. Especially in Gothic literature from the West, a black colour choice often represents death, evil, grief, and depression. Associated with fear, the unknown and often has a negative connotation. Black clothes can make you look thinner. A black background severely diminishes the readability of most type. Often the go to colour for funerals and grieving. It symbolizes stability and power, which gives a sense of authority. Thus, the black colour often represents professionalism and expertise.
Blue. Has positive and negative connotations in colour psychology. Some writers may use blue to represent serenity and tranquility, instilling a scene with a calming effect. Blue can also signify sadness, melancholy, or isolation. People who find someone very loyal and faithful are often called "true blue". Blue is often considered to be more masculine which is why it is often the colour of choice when choosing a suit. Lighter blues are associated with tranquility, softness and healing. Darker blues are associated with power, knowledge and seriousness. Blue is actually shown to suppress appetites a bit. The colour blue symbolizes wisdom and hope. It’s the colour of peace and confidence. Blue has been shown to reduce blood pressure and pulse rate. It fosters serenity and a sense of belonging.
Green. The colour green often symbolizes rebirth, growth, peace, jealousy, and greed. Green colours may also represent spring and renewal. It is a colour that is very easy on the eyes. Dark green is often associated with ambition. Green suggests stability, safety and hope. At the same time, it may denote a lack of experience in a particular field. Green symbolizes peace, growth, and nature. It is the colour of success, promoting healing and tranquility.
Orange. The colour orange often represents energy, excitement, joy, and creativity. Since orange is the colour of fire, it may also symbolize heat. Since orange is not as aggressive as red, it can actually stimulate brain activity. It is very useful to catch someone's attention, which is why it's used a lot to advertise food and toys.
Pink. The colour pink symbolizes love, kindness, femininity, innocence, and playfulness. Certain shades of pink can limit aggression. Pink may be associated with unconditional love and caring.
Purple. Often associated with royalty, the colour purple symbolizes bravery, spirituality, and luxury. Light purple usually brings up romantic or nostalgic feelings; while a darker shade can make you feel gloomy or sad.
Red. The colour red symbolizes some of the most powerful human emotions, like passionate love or lust. On the other side of the spectrum, this warm colour is also the colour of blood, often symbolizing anger, danger, and violence. It stimulates the appetite. Red is an emotionally intense colour associated with energy, danger, anger, passion and determination. The symbolic meaning associated with the colour red is passion, excitement, and love. It’s the colour of urgency, power, and desire. Red is said to boost hunger and is believed to inspire confidence and excitement. This colour has also been found to increase blood pressure and heart rate.
White. This primary colour traditionally symbolizes innocence, peace, and cleanliness. In Western cultures, the colour white also represents purity and virginity, while it symbolizes mourning in some East Asian cultures. Usually has positive connotations when used and thought of as safe. Associated a lot with healing, simplicity and sterility, which is why it's used in hospitals and healing centers as much as it is. The symbolic meaning of the colour white is truth and sometimes even indifference. It encourages feelings of safety and cleanliness. Clean, white clothes and linens show sterility since stains are easily visible. That’s why doctors and nurses frequently wear white lab coats and scrubs.
Yellow. Writers may use the colour yellow to symbolize creativity, happiness, optimism, and warmth—think of a yellow ray of sunlight poking out from a dark cloud. A common negative connotation of the color yellow is cowardice, popularized by the phrase “yellow-bellied.” Warming effect which stimulates body and mind. Gold is associated with the highest of luxury. When bright yellow is used with black it's one of the easiest colour combinations to see from long distances; when uses with lighter colours it's not so easy to see. Yellow ribbons are worn as a symbol of hope and used quite often to welcome home loved ones. Yellow is the colour of warmth, kindness, and happiness. It’s often associated with optimism and well-being and promotes energy.
Brown. This warm, earthy brown colour may symbolize dependability, comfort, and a sense of being grounded. Brown is also a neutral colour, and writers may use it to represent dullness and predictability. Brown is a colour that is related to very grounded traits such as simplicity, practicality, common sense and hard work. Can also be associated with those that are frugal and not too flashy.
Gray. Lighter grays are often thought of as more feminine while darker grays more masculine. Gray is considered by many to be a neutral colour; the perfect balance between light and dark / good and evil. Pop up the lighter grays and add a little shine to it, and thought immediately turns to silver, which correlates to wealth.

Walk with me: Mid-summer hike through a Central Appalachian forest. As summer hurtles toward its final explosive act, the forest's living things embrace urgent, primordial impulses triggered by shrinking daylight: to bloom, to seed, to feed, and to reproduce before the killing frost of Autumn shocks the earth into hibernation. In the deep forest, the fetid perfume of decaying fungi signals the countdown has begun. From top: a bumblebee traversing the fanning pink flowers of hollow-stemmed Joe-Pye weed (Eutrochium fistulosum); the maturing red stem and flowers of seedbox (Ludwigia alternifolia), also known as rattlebox and square-pod water-primrose, a very attractive wetlands annual with four-sided seed capsules; cowbane (Oxypolis rigidior), also known as common water dropwort, a delicate, marsh-loving member of the carrot family that also happens to be toxic; Allegheny hawkweed (Hieracium paniculatum), also known as panicled hawkweed, a spindly-stemmed member of the dandelion tribe; the lovely and hallucinogenic fly agaric (Amanita muscaria); a sprawling colony of sulphur shelf fungus (Laetiporus sulphureus), an edible delicacy otherwise known as chicken of the woods; a red eft (Notophthalmus viridescens); white wood aster (Eurybia divaricata); a twin set of common puffballs (Lycoperdon perlatum); the fungal version of suburban sprawl courtesy of orange moss agaric (Rickenella fibula); a gelatinous serving of orange witches' butter (Dacrymyces chrysospermus); a fiery clump of eastern Jack-o-lanterns (Omphalotus illudens); a potter wasp (Ancistrocerus campestris) drinking from the clumped white flowers of virgin's bower (Clematis virginiana); one of my all-time favorite critters, a locust borer (Megacyllene robiniae), taking its nectar fill from flat-top goldentop (Euthamia graminifolia), also known as grass-leaved goldenrod; a green metallic sweat bee (Augochloropsis ?) finding sustenance from parasol white-top (Doellingeria umbellata var. umbellata), also known as flat-top aster; and the intricate purple flowers of tall ironweed (Vernonia gigantea).

hey! i need some help!
so, as we were heading into the cooler months of the year (meaning that i was awakening from my summer hibernation) i was getting ready to get back to posting a little more regularly while my school's fall semester started up! however... a little bit of an issue has cropped up. my laptop is totally busted. the thing started falling apart at the seams-- literally! (as pictured above)
i'm not usually one to ask for help, however i do need a computer and i can't afford the repairs alone. so i come to you all now humbly asking... will you buy me a kofi?
once it's fixed, i'll probably be opening up some silly little commissions and whatnot too, so keep an eye out for that!

A confession to a fae
(Lilia vanrouge x reader)
Re-upload from terminated blog squid-god-supreme, this is in a similar style to captured, basically, this is more general Lilia leaning, long hair Lilia supremacy
CW : nothing much, reader is low key down bad, kinda stalking? Watching from afar? "My most cherished one"
1.5k
Who was he? That mysterious man who walked the stone path of your small cottage in the dead of night? He who stalks the trees and befriends all creatures of the night. Who is he, you wonder?
He whose eyes glow crimson and whose pupils are not but slender slits of pitch black. You wondered who he was as you glanced with blurred vision and bated breath out the window to catch only a glimpse.
The thought and curiosity plagued you and you worked in your garden, soft soil giving way as you dug and pulled weeds, harvested the plants you grew. The tall trees cast dancing shadows but let light flicker through, it was calm, peaceful. "Hello there my dear" you jumped and looking up there was now a figure in front of you, Dressed in a long robe the deep set hood concealed his face. He was tall, not unreasonably so but enough to make note of, he leaned only slightly against the stone wall separating the two of you. Covered in moss and discolored from years of the forest encroaching on pale stone it only came up to about waist height. He let out a chuckle at your alarm "do not fret little one, I mean no harm to you" "o-oh well 'morning"
That was how it all began, the mysterious man showing up by that garden wall to chat, the lovely weather, the kingdom of which you hail, and the woods that you call home. He had the most pleasant stories, of dragons and swords clashing, of night walks with ghosts and of history long passed, from dusk till dawn in bliss you were held captive by the words he spoke as you tended your garden.
"Ah drats!" You mumbled as you searched for the jar of wild herbs and mushrooms you needed, only to realize that you had run out. "Fine I suppose I'll go get more" you sighed, lacing your boots and grabbing the shallow basket you used for things like this, with that you headed off.
Deep now in the forest and basket weighed with herbs and edible mushrooms, a few berries, and flowers you could grow you felt a cold touch on your hand.
Stumbling back the basket landed after you, miraculously nothing split as it contacted the ground. "Apologies my dear" the cold touch was back, now in front of you kneeled the man who leaned against your garden wall, his pale hand grasping yours as it was lifted to his lips.
Were his footsteps like rain? Silent and peaceful, you wondered as the sunlight danced with shadows if this man was the same who stalked the night with such luster. If he who held your hand in tender reverence was he who walked the path of your cottage before the sun kissed the sky.
"It's alright, you just startled me haha" you got up, watching as he rose up, his cloak fell to conceal his ivory and alabaster pants and cuffed black leather boots. "I come here often, this tree is quite nice, perhaps I'll no longer be the only one who visits?" He extended his hand, nails sharp and pitch black. "Is that an invitation?" You took his hand.
"Fufufu of course my dear"
This man who you were so enraptured by was a constant question in your brain, so it was no shock that as you awoke and lit your lantern you spotted from that window by the bed, a figure dancing through the trees and got up. Heading to the kitchen then to the stone wall by the garden you left a bowl of tomato soup you had made earlier and heated up by fire.
As morning breathed life to day you awoke again and went out to your garden, there against the wall with his back turned was the man.His vest a polished pine green embroidered with blush pink thread showing ferns and snapdragons, red dahlias and columbine flowers. The short half cape that rested on his shoulder and draped over one of his alabaster sleeves was dark slate gray and lined with silver. “Hello again sir” you greeted him like any other day and he turned to you with a fond smile. He was handsome, his striking blood red eyes set against the pale white skin and the slight dark tint to his eyes and lips. His hair was long and black, with streaks of pink and the underside bright fuchsia. His appearance was striking, especially his smile and the fangs that peaked out. “Good morning my dear, thank you for the gift you left me on the evening of last” you smiled, proud of the work you put into that soup and glad he enjoyed it. “I can't let a gift go unpaid, so before the sun bids my farewell would you invite me to repay your generosity?” “you don't have to, but if you insist!”.
Just like that he lept over our stone garden wall, his black boots lifting him up before hitting the cobblestone path. A cold hand to yours and before you knew it you were spinning, his hand at your waist and the other holding your hand. “My gift to you today is a dance through dawn.” no rhythm played in the air yet as you danced in his embrace the world seemed to be alight with beautiful melodies, his eyes held stories that ruptured your heart and made your feet sway effortlessly with his.
You wondered if this man was human, he who stalks the trees, he who dances to no music yet keeps rhythm, he who leans over the garden wall. They say you should not dance with the fae, for once you do it’ll never be the same without, you wondered if that was what he is, if his eyes hold more than lonely longing affection but his gaze always seems to silence these thoughts.
He was beyond the garden wall now, no longer the mysterious figure but the charming man, he sat under the tree in your garden and told you stories now, occasionally he would play tunes on his bagpipe and you would dance and clap in tune when not tending your garden. He often brought flowers, lovely flowers that you had never seen, ones that never wilted and ones that bloomed in the dead of night. He also brought honeyd words and sweet glances, saying he was once lonely but had found you. The man spoke of magic and mages, you had confessed that you had no magic like others and that this was the reason you moved out to the forest. He showed you magic as you danced, the sparkling of light that spun and twirled around the air as his appearance changed before your eyes, and as yours morphed to match his own.
“I spend so much time with you now,” you pondered shifting and turning towards him “yet i don't know your name” his breath seemed to pause, a dead calm and for a moment you wondered if you had messed up. “Fufufu my my what a question to ask me, you who walk beyond thorns have not a clue what power a name holds” his answer confused you, the power a name holds? “But, you are indeed my most cherished one, so perhaps I will tell you” how he adored the way your eyes gleamed at the words he spoke. “First you must follow me cherished one~” he was up in a second and you followed.
Soon you looked down to see a stone path, the trees grew more dense and you realized you had never been this deep into the forest before. “Sir- uh my love?” “Yes darling?” Even with golden light trickling through dense leaves his eyes almost glowed the most brilliant red. “Where…are we going?” he laughed. “Fufu you will see soon enough.
You walked deeper and deeper until only sparse light flooded in small beams and nature had entirely consumed the land, remnants of castles long taken by lakes and claimed by the forest. Even the path you realized had disappeared some time ago, your only guide was the man in front of you. The almost silent sound of his steps stopped and you ran into his back, soft fabric cushioning your blow. “H-huh?” before you in the dim lighting was what looked to be a wall of trees and thorny vine, they twisted and curved suspiciously to form a perfect circle. It was lighter on the other side but almost the same, except for the cobblestone path that emerged covered in moss.
“This my dear, is the price for such power over me.” he stepped through and nothing seemed to happen. “Simply follow me, til the end of eternity” and before your eyes he vanished. Your eyes were wide as saucers as you stood before the circle gateway. “Alright” you said more to the memory of his figure, one foot after the other onto the other side.
Now you stand, in a small clearing, the circle arch long gone as your feet touch the cool stone. Chilling arms and soft linen fabric wrapped around you as the ghost of a breath blew gently against your ear.
“Lillia, lillia vanrouge~”

Becoming one with the bog
It was technically a 'poor fen', not a bog in the strictest sense, because it's ground-and-surface water fed, not reliant entirely on rain. It's still on the acid side of neutral and dominated by sphagnum moss. The acid and lack of oxygen in the water mean the plant matter doesn't fully decay, which forms the 'peat' of the peat bog, and the sphagnums help make sure it all stays that way.
The peat fen is a sensitive ecosystem, and it's totally possible to sink one of the 'dry' feeling hummocks (they're NOT dry, they're lying; sphagnum can hold a huge amount of water), so you don't walk from hummock to hummock; you avoid them and wade through the water and mud.
It makes very satisfying SSHCHLORP and GLOOOP sounds, stealthily tries to eat your feet if you stand still too long, and it bounces. The ground was actually something like 20 feet below us; we were walking on the peat. I think they said that 90% of the water was in that peat, with 5% below and 5% above. Not sure I've got the numbers right, but picture a giant neutrally buoyant sponge. With a landscape on top of it. It is sproingy.
Bounce, and the shrubs and stunted trees bounce with you, or whatever that saying is.
We saw three species of carnivorous plants. I didn't get a picture of the bladderwort, but the left is a Washington native sundew, and the right is sticky false asphodel, which was only discovered to be carnivorous in 2021.
I also took lots of pictures of pond lilies, which aren't specific to this environment but are really cool looking:
They also make it warmer inside their flowers. That's part of why all the lil' bugs are there! Pond lilies be making it cozy. Swamp lantern (skunk cabbage) also generate heat — and they create their own little 'wells'; clear space in the sphagnum hummocks. None of my pictures captured it well, but it's quite weird. Like little variations on the massive "plant shaping it's environment" theme that the sphagnum moss started.
And that, it turns out, is the true lure and danger of the fen. Not just that it could schloop you under (I only fell on my ass once, and it was sproingy). Not will-o-the-wisps. No, the true mystery is the sphagnum hillocks themselves.
Mounds of moss rising a foot or more above the water, red, brown, chartreuse, and yellow. They look like little hills, but it's moss, moss, moss, all the way down. You can wiggle your hand right down inside it. It's incredibly soft, and it's warm.
I can just imagine someone, weary from their bog slog, starting to miss their footing in the gloop, falling prey to the siren song of the Forbidden Coziness. They lay down (crushing numerous delicate plants as they do). They wriggle in. They fall asleep.
Several thousand years later, a lucky archeologist finds another bog body.

𝐏𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝟐.𝟓: 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐒
Word count: 3.1k
Warnings: Possible spelling mistakes [will read it through properly soon :<]
The question of ‘what now?’ had plagued your mind for long enough before the decision of ultimately doing what you wanted landed in the front of your mind. If you were to base your next decision based upon Minji’s previous statement of you being safe for the moment, then surely temporarily leaving wouldn't entirely jeopardise your safety. Anyway, what could be more jeopardising to your safety than being kidnapped by a bunch of strangers?
With a light groan, you quickly slip the provided sweater over your head, immediately finding that the fabric claws annoyingly at whatever skin it could find. You could already feel a faint rash forming at the base of your wrists, but at least it was something to keep you warmer.
Waddling slightly from the bed and out the door, you came face to face with the same chill you had experienced only minutes prior. Though, the atmosphere and overall setting felt far more dreadful than it had previously. Suddenly, the appease of the flames seemed faltered, and the occasional bird ruffling through the trees had now put you on edge.
It almost seemed as if being on edge was something you’ll need to learn to expect while you’re here- or away from home in general.
You made quick work of descending down the makeshift ladder used as a mode of vertical mobility. The hefty rungs seemed sturdy to a point- the chipping wooden beams used for your footing hung with ancient soot and dirt, some moss occupying certain allocated patches. It felt oddly nice to have reached the natural ground beneath, the air being all that more earthy than airy as it was back up on the balconies.
Breathing in a sharp inhale, you allow your chest to puff out before it alternatively deflates upon the de-stressing release of it. You almost smiled at the feeling, the feeling of being less so like a prisoner and more so like your own individual again…
Almost.
The smile never breached your face, it only etched itself on the inner of your cheeks, carving away with an appointed nail-top arrogance. It ravaged upon your lips, begging to be released and displayed just like all the others have done- just like it should do too. Though, its dismay came at the residential gulp that occupied your throat, effectively banishing the idea of a smile from your recognition.
Your eyes had now wandered over the landscaping. You had only been able to map partial parts to the area out from a twenty foot standing platform in the air, and even then, you had Minji suffocating you with her glare and a clueless Haerin staring uncomfortably at you.
If the others were anything like the two you’ve already met, you were certain you’d be almost- if not definitely- doomed.
On another note, the area surrounding did seem as normal as it could be, minus the lanterns and the ladders scattered about the bases of the thickest trees. From what you could see, there was a count of five ladders in total- presumably one for every hut. The trees were apparent with time, and the grass had held many centuries' worth of knowledge. Nature was a curious forte.
By the time your brain had caught up with your eyes, you had found yourself leaning into the sight of a faint glow in the distance. It was moving in an oddly rhythmic way, buds of harmonious hues fluttering across a small clearing not too far away. The attraction had essentially piqued your curiosity and interest, so, in turn, you had begun your short journey towards the strange source of a monotone blaze.
Approaching the swarm had proven its relevance as your understanding grew rapidly. It was just a hoard of fireflies- nothing more and nothing less. Some zipped around like aggravated yaks while others hovered with a dormant buzz.
Though, despite having figured out what the glow was, you were still approaching with curious eyes. It had been years since you last saw any fireflies. They used to occupy your village… until the self-appointed president of the place had put a ban on any critters possible. The townspeople were instructed to be rid of any that weren’t listed as ‘useful’ on the notice board each day and night. It had gotten so bad that there became a new job offering in support of the man’s dire wishes of exterminating the smaller creatures of the world.
You never understood why he had ordered for such a pillage, and you doubt you ever will, but regardless of your home’s rules and expectations, you were following your spirit of inquisitiveness. You wanted to know if these fireflies would be willing to let you close enough to almost examine one or two of them, to have one land in your palm like they used to do when you were a child, if they’d run along your fingers before flying away again.
“Hello”
The voice had immediately caught you off guard, your every muscle clenching at the sound. No matter how friendly it appeared to be- even with that bubbly undertone- you still grew with a floodplain’s worth of dread. “H-hi?” you had awkwardly stuttered back, eyes now ripping away from the luminous bugs as you cautiously scan the shadows beyond, Adding to your already soaring levels of fear came the tap of a finger upon your shoulder.
“It’s nice to meet you… or, well, officially meet you anyway” The voice chimed as you had hesitantly turned around, eyes greeting that of a girl shorter than you. Her hair similarly hued with streaks of blended blondes and eyes of a darker origin… and then she smiled. Her cheeks puffed out slightly at the push of her soft grin. Her eyes creased slightly at the corners.
“Officially…?” You furrowed your brows suspiciously, eyes narrowing down on the smaller girl as you examine her for potential threats. Though, there wasn't much to be threatened by when a girl like this one stands with her hands ineptly by her sides, a sweet smile playing with the span of her lips, and even her soft brown outfit complex had her looking more harmless than harmful… unless it was purely for deception purposes…?
“Yeah, officially” she had begun,”We have met, but you weren’t entirely conscious. I’m Hanni, by the way”
You blink. Your brain was stuck between the twine of something new and something old. You had plenty of questions before you had seen this girl's face, but it’s quickly dawning that you have far more now- after having seen her face. “I’m Y/n” your voice cracks as you look on at the girl, an awkward tug of your lips playing a new part in your facial expression.
Though, despite your involuntary incident, Hanni only smiles softly- once again. “How are you? You know, from the incident-”
“I'm fine, but do you know what happened?” In all honesty, you were pretty much fine. The ache of your joints still lingers, but other than that, you were fine.
“I don’t know anything, You’d have better luck asking Danielle if anything”
Your eyebrows almost stitch themselves together at the name. “...Danielle?” You questioned, letting the name fall from your lips like a sack of freshly pulled potatoes. “Who’s that?”
“Oh! Right- you haven’t met her yet” Hanni’s eyes wander from your face to the fireflies you were previously staring at. “Danielle is like our creature whisperer- or something of the sort” She pauses to look back at you with a smaller, closed-lipped smile “I won’t tell you too much about Dani. I don’t think she’d appreciate me spoiling your introductions like that”
I nod my head,”Yeah, I get that… but… did you say she’s a creature whisperer?”
“Yeah…? Don’t you know someone like that?” Hanni tilts her head slightly, eyebrows furrowing in a way that causes a small line to appear between the two brows. “Isn’t it a common hobby?”
“I… wouldn't say common. Back at home, everyone hates anything that isn’t human. It's basically forbidden to even pick up a worm if it’s not to go in the crop fields” You could feel your nose scrunching at the thought. “How would she even help me with what happened earlier?”
“Oh, you’d be surprised!” Hanni lightly grins, her lips parting ever so slightly as she does so,”The most basic ways of looking- from what i’ve experienced anyway- include looking for traces of any immediately noticeable marks on your skin and the examination of any additional DNA on your body that doesn’t belong to you”
“well that's something…” You offer her a timid smile now, feeling slightly awkward about the idea of someone ‘examining’ you. Hanni had made it seem like Danielle was about to inspect your skin with a magnifying glass- or something of a similar sort. Like Danielle was to take notes on every small wound your body holds. “Do I need to go and see her now…?”
“Now wouldn’t be a good idea. Danielle would be asleep by now. She was exhausted after running around for you earlier” Hanni admits, puffing out her cheeks slightly. “You know, you really had her worried. She’s never seen a human… almost all of us have never seen a human before”
“Is it true?”
“Is what true?”
“...Where I live, Croydon… is it true that we’re the only civilisation of humans left alive?”
Hanni had paused. Even the faint movement of her chest caused at the expense of her breathing had halted. Her gaze almost staled in a softening way. She looked hesitant, yet resourceful and empathetic. “Croydon… yes, from what we know of, Croydon is the only remaining human village”
You nod, looking down slightly. You weren't quite sure what you were expecting, but you guess you hoped for something positive to feed your run-away mindset. Staying in Croydon was never a feat you wanted to face, so hoping for a chance for a new start was always just kind of a reality you had put your faith in. “That’s… unfortunate” You nod, feeling a dry patch sprawl along the back of your throat.
Hanni blinks as she shuffles forward a little, reaching out to rest her hand on your clothed forearm gently. “I’m sorry…”
“Why are you sorry?” You question, looking back to the smaller girl “I have no connection to any place other than my own”
“Maybe so, but I could see the disappointment in your eyes when I told you no” She smiles reassuringly, her eyebrows rising to hide deeper within the confines of her soft blonde bangs. “So once again, i’m sorry”
“And once again, it’s fine”
“If you say so” Hanni’s frown straightens out as she squeezes your forearm gently “Minji will probably introduce you to everyone tomorrow. You can talk to Danielle then”
“Minji…” Your nose scrunches at the mention of the assertive girl’s name. “Is she always so rude to new people?”
“Who? Minji?” Hanni laughs silently “Rude isn’t a word anyone here would call her by, but with newcomers or trespassers, yes. She’s only coming from a place of concern and love for us- especially since she’s the oldest here”
“The oldest, huh?” You almost raise a brow at the information. You suppose it makes sense, though. “Can I ask you how old Minji is?”
“Well… in human years, she’s nineteen”
“And what about in your species' years?” You were hesitant to ask, a new and rather sudden irrational fear of her age being at the possibility of reaching the hundreds- if not thousands- had you feeling off about everything. You brace yourself for impact.
“She’s about thirty-three years old in fairy years”
Fairy..?
“Y-you’re a… fairy?” You stutter, eyes growing wider as you look her over again, eyes tracing her face for any ritualistic cut crystals or for just a general glint of something evil. Though, there was still nothing but her bubbly self to be displayed.
“Yeah” Hanni smiles proudly, performing a small twirl for you, her hands pulling gently at the ends of her outfit in a courtesy manner. Her golden locks chase after one another with every short second she spends twirling, effectively making an outward spiral. “I know our kind doesn't have the greatest history with humans, but I promise we aren’t like the rest of our kind… especially Danielle”
You pause to take a moment, letting yourself recall the horrid descriptions your parents used to tell you, how they described fairies in such a biassed and untruthful light. You had been told they were creatures no taller than little seven-year-old you, with backs so hunched that they were able to trace the scent of any creature that had walked there recently. You were told they had low-hanging noses and crooked teeth, that their skin was to peel and crack at the slightest wicked grin. The grin, they always grin. How their fingers grew lanky and aged with untrimmed fingernails.
Though, none of these traits have been present within this group of fairies. Minji is taller than what you are now, and she held an excellent posture with it. Haerin had a small, more pointed tip to her nose and quite possibly the straightest teeth you’ve seen anyone ever have. And Hanni, she had the clearest skin imaginable, accompanied by her ever sweet and charming smile, and, of course, her oddly perfect hands.
Were the allegations all wrong…? Did your parents know the truth, or were they deceived by those before them?
“You seem a little lost…” Hanni almost mumbles, looking over your face.
“Just a little?” You breathe out, tilting your head slightly as you gaze into her eyes, a small smile playing a dangerous game with the corner of your lips “I’m just glad the stories were wrong”
“Stories?”
“It’s nothing to worry about” You quickly dismiss your previous words as you play with the rim to Minji’s sweater, finding the grey fabric a mess of her past. Some threads were coming loose, and as tempted as you had grown to tug at them, you had grown more tempted to not let the girl get the better of you. In a way, it felt almost as if you had to earn her friendship more than anything else. That meant no relying on the others, no relying on time or for her better judgement to just appear, but for you to do something because there is no way in hell you’re about to share her hut with her when all she does is scowl and undermine you and everything you do.
Hanni almost coughs as she actually looks at you, and not just your face. Her mind finally reeling in what you’re wearing, her eyes almost bulging out of their sockets as if they were ready to pop out and dangle like forgotten wooden yoyos. “At least Minji isn’t entirely hostile towards you?”
“She explained that she had only given me this to prevent you guys from getting mad at her”
“Yeah? Well, she’s absolutely right for thinking that way. I would’ve butchered her if she had left you wearing what we had found you in” Hanni rolls her eyes with a playful pinch to her cheeks.
“What I was wearing wasn't that bad… they were just my pyjamas…” You mumble, feeling slightly embarrassed now. Your pyjamas aren’t anything good, but they aren’t anything bad either. If anything, they were mediocre.
“And? We don’t know how long you were unconscious for. Your body could’ve been freezing while you were knocked out. To have left you with only what you were wearing would have been dangerous for you”
“You make it sound like Minji wanted to leave me to die…” You laugh awkwardly, furrowing your eyebrows together in a nervous, transfixed state.
Hanni, however, doesn’t return any signs of clear emotions. Her face is the emptiest you’ve seen it since you met her, “Something along those lines… yeah, she did”
A small silence caresses your voices into shallow graves as the atmosphere hangs still now. The only thing proactively making noise was that of an owl in the distance and the choir of crickets. God, did things turn unsettling fast.
“So… I'm assuming Minji doesn’t know you’re out here?” Hanni speaks up after a decent moment's worth of peace.
Oh shit- you had completely forgotten you had a psycho basically tracking your every move. From waking up in her room and being forbidden to leave it, you were reminded once again at the damage this could cause you if she decides to act on her clear frustrations. “No… she doesn’t know”
“Oh…” Hanni had trailed off, pulling a strange face at your response- one that screamed uncertainty in several unspoken ways “Good luck with that when she finds out”
“Will she find out?”
“Most likely, she’s really good at keeping track of things, items, and people”
You could feel a nervous laugh tickle the back of your tongue, your eyebrows raising in uncertainty at the thought of Minji knowing where you are right now, even more so if she was watching you. “That sounds creepy-”
Hanni shrugs “Personally, I'd call it admirable, but sure. Call it what you will”
“Yeah” you nod hesitantly in agreement, almost looking at Hanni like she's insane,”I should get back… you know, to lessen my chances of getting caught?”
“You can certainly try” Hanni smiles, moving some hair from her shoulder as she offers you a small smile “Do you want me to accompany you, or will you remember what hut is hers?”
“No, no. I’ll be fine” You reciprocate the smile “I’ll find it sooner or later”
“Very well then, have a good night, Y/n”
“You too, goodnight, Hanni” and with your farewells greeting each other in a cautious head-on collision, you almost immediately turn and begin to walk back to the tree houses. Though, you couldn't help but glance over your shoulder at the shorter girl for one last look. You could only hope the other two girls you’ve yet to have met are even a small dosage of what Hanni was like. Kind and friendly. Two things you lacked in your greeting with Minji and two things Haerin hadn’t had enough time to prove she possesses.
You suppose you’ll see them again tomorrow, maybe then you could fairly judge their welcoming and their views on humans, afterall, it was their kind that wrecked chaos on your kind for centuries at a time. You’d really like to believe these girls are different- like Hanni had shared. You’d really like to believe and place trust in the fairy.

...Ciudadela y Villas/Citadel and Villas...
...¡Throne Labyrinth!...
⭐Capital Neutral/Neutral Capital:
"De hecho, la primera idea de los Primeros Gobernantes de los Hechiceros era colocar su hogar lejos de las espinas, pero al final decidieron colocar la Capital Neutral en medio de un campo de espinas que fueron quitando poco a poco, para crear un hogar y construir un nuevo Castillo, algunas casas nuevas... Aún se desconoce de dónde vinieron los Hechiceros, sólo que tomaron este Mundo para habitarlo.../In fact, the first idea of the First Rulers of the Sorcerers was to place their home away from the thorns, but in the end they decided to place the Neutral Capital in the middle of a field of thorns that they removed little by little, to create a home and build a new one Castle, some new houses... It is still unknown where the Sorcerers came from, only that they took this World to inhabit it...
Sólo ten cuidado con las espinas.../The Neutral Capital is where the Beautiful White Castle was built... The Citadel is beautiful, full of huge houses and beautiful shop windows, a perfect place to walk with paved floors, beautiful fauna and flora... Surrounded by thorns everywhere you want Wherever you go, there are water channels coming out from above or below the ground... A brilliant sight... Where you can always go out and feel safe, while the trees shade you from the sun... Just be careful the spines..."
🖋️Runas/Runes:
"En medio de las montañas, y muros destruidos con runas escritas en cada viejo muro lleno de plantas, raíces y flores... Allí está el Pueblo de las Runas... Exactamente un lugar cubierto de piedras, pero un lugar donde el viento hace eco... Un lugar frío pero luminoso.../In the middle of the mountains, and destroyed walls with runes written on each old wall full of plants, roots and flowers... There is the Town of Runes... Exactly a place covered in stones, but a place where the wind makes eco... A cold but bright place...
Con caminos de tierra y puentes de madera, que hermoso lugar suena.../Its creation and its inhabitants led to the creation of the language and writing of the Kingdom... This place is covered with moss and many water channels, they are fans of writing and books, it is common to see a library or book stores around here... Full of lanterns and cozy wooden houses, a beautiful place for any reading lover... With dirt roads and wooden bridges, what a beautiful place it sounds..."
💮Jardines Blancos/White Gardens:
"Debajo de un enorme agujero en alguna parte, bajando con cuidado unas escaleras de mármol... Ahí están los Jardines Blancos, un lugar hermoso con casas hechas de piedras y madera, un lugar lleno de flores, los animales caminan por aquí normalmente... Se cuelan entre los arbustos o árboles llenos de flores... Una lluvia de pétalos cae cuando el viento sopla por los caminos empedrados.../Under a huge hole somewhere, carefully descending marble stairs... There are the White Gardens, a beautiful place with houses made of stones and wood, a place full of flowers, the animals walk around here normally... They sneak between bushes or trees full of flowers... A rain of petals falls when the wind blows along the cobbled paths...
Realmente es un lugar para ti.../It is normal that Sorcerers related to Nature live here, although there are many more Fairies and other magical beings here... It is a good place to sell flowers and incredible potions, the carts always leave from there with flowers by the bunch, if you like visiting flower shops or living in a stone or wooden house, waking up and being able to go to the parks while petals fall on your face... It really is a place for you..."
💎Villa Granate/Villa Garnet:
"Precisamente la Villa Granate está lleno de Minas de Oro y Diamantes, exactamente muchos tipos de minerales... El Pueblo está al lado de las minas, de sus suelos salen piedras de colores luminosos, de los faroles cuelgan pequeños cristales de colores... Mientras todo brilla con colores intensos alrededor del lugar… Un pueblo especializado en minas, armamento y joyería…/Exactly the Villa Garnet is full of Gold and Diamond Mines, exactly many types of minerals... The Town is next to the mines, luminous colored stones come out of its floors, small colored crystals hang from the lanterns. .. While everything shines in intense colors around the place... A town specialized in mines, weaponry and jewelry...
Un lugar maravilloso si siempre te ha gustado el ruido, el orgullo nace en el corazón de cada Hechicero aquí.../In its earthen pits you can sometimes find a lost gem that has fallen off a wagon track, its houses are made of bricks and cement, the place is full of jewelry stores and weapons stores, a place that works day and night... The fire in the fireplaces burns in recognition, they dance and sing... A wonderful place if you have always liked noise, pride is born in the hearts of every Sorcerer here..."
Sigue siendo bonito.../Do you like the rains that never end? Are you fascinated by the cold and icy wind?... Well, this could be your place!... Somewhere, on top of a huge mountain, is this town... Full of incessant rain and cold wind, the drops hit the paved floor and the pretty wooden houses, while the clouds cover the sun... The lanterns illuminate the place... There are small waterfalls there and small fauna being born, although it is moss is more common... Still pretty...
Se recomienda…/This is exactly where the first fashion came from, although it doesn't sound credible... Many would think it would be a rain style, but no... Here are the best seamstresses and dressmakers, wow... In addition to being the Kings of gastronomy, While you climb the stairs to get to the place or just teleport, you will marvel at just smelling the wonders and seeing the shop windows, just bring an umbrella and a sweater... It is recommended..."
Aún se escuchan las risas y algunas personas patinando sobre algún lago helado.../Snow is everywhere, in any corner... Anywhere, the temperature is so below zero in this place full of snow and ice, slippery floors and wooden cabins with one or another icicles hanging, the lighting is beautiful torches that would not go out with the strong wind, while snowflakes fall with a lot of existence... You can still hear the laughter and some people skating on some frozen lake...
Un lugar perfecto para cualquier amante del frío, probablemente también de la adrenalina o la supervivencia.../Although it is a very cold place, many of the Paladins live here for no reason, not all... But some have even sometimes called it the Paladins' corner, full of constant cold... But full of laughter, things hot and good fireplaces... A perfect place for any lover of the cold, probably also adrenaline or survival..."
No te puedes perder estas maravillosas funciones.../Do you like the Theater? Probably the Song Forest if... In that town, education was always important, that's why there are museums and fine arts everywhere... The most important thing, the acting... The enormous theater It rises from all the trees around, full of works that will come and be done... You cannot miss these wonderful functions...
¿Vienes?.../Just look at its lanterns, paved streets where carriages pass, enjoy looking at the restaurants, the beautiful illuminated parks and the masonry houses, you can hear people talking everywhere... While the Forest protects you, listening to the little birds sing beautiful melodies, a fantastic place... Will you come?..."
🐟Abismo Coralino/Coral Abyss:
"Pasando los árboles y las grandes montañas, hay una hermosa playa, donde navegan barcos, donde abundan las palmeras y los cocos... Pero, no es sólo una playa, allí vive un pueblo... Chozas de bambú flotan en medio de toda el agua, alrededor de la playa también hay casas y muchos comercios para refrescarse con cualquier bebida, incluso comer algo de marisco.../Passing the trees and the great mountains, there is a beautiful beach, where boats sail, where palm trees and coconuts abound... But, it is not just a beach, a town lives there... Bamboo huts float in the middle of all the water, around the beach there are also houses and many shops to refresh yourself with any drink, even eat some seafood...
Aún el Sol golpea con entusiasmo.../Although the fish trade is a fortune here, as are its wooden roads and beautiful fire torches, with music played non-stop, under the water there are also masonry houses with algae around them, fish swim and surround the place and the sand paths have one or another pearl lying around, the corals have small lamps hanging... You can still hear the noise from above and the boats passing by... You can always choose if you prefer the surface or the bottom of the sea, wow... Still the Sun hits with enthusiasm..."
The only thing you can see here is sand and a lot of sand, one or another Captus and many Rolling Bushes... It's obvious, it's a desert... There are houses made of wood and sheet metal, lovers of Alcohol... So the cantinas here They are everywhere, in addition to seeing drinking fountains in some boot stalls, their paths are sandy and the lighting is candles that are placed around the place...
Wear a hat and a shawl, boots are also recommended... There are farms here and many people outside are wearing hats riding horses; or you can only see children playing with a horseshoe and good aim... This place looks like it came out of a western movie, although it is a great place if you like this type of climate with a hot sun..."
☀️ Sagrada Luz/Holy Light:
No olvidemos las brillantes escaleras de piedra flotante y una barandilla dorada, para subir al lugar.../Floating Islands in the sky always look like something out of a Fairy tale, but not for the home of Sorcerers... This huge piece of floating earth and stone, exactly floating... It floats in the sky, water falls from it and roots hang from trees... It seems like a dream spectacle, surrounded by clouds, above there is a town... That looks from its floating land at the World below... So that it does not move, there are chains attached to it from top to bottom, holding it in place... Let's not forget the sparkling stairs of floating stone and a golden railing, to climb to the place...
You know, teleportation or other faster means, anyway... The Village is a wonder with its dirt roads and stone bridges, its houses are combinations, some are just cabins and others are really made of masonry... They have many types of fruits that they sometimes trade, their stores are extensive, there are always places where you can relax and you can see the landscape, although be careful not to fall..."
🕷️Criptas olvidadas/Forgotten Crypts:
"Criptas... You know, the name given to a place where a deceased being is buried, exactly in this Town... Well, there are many comments, Sorcerers could be almost immortal... Almost, but there are many magical things that can kill them, so that's why these places exist... Nobody knows why they were created... But this Town exists and loves to live among the already fallen... To enter it, you must first find a strange monument with shapes and a door, upon entering you will only find stairs... Going down and down, you will find a small underground town, full of cemeteries...
Es un lindo lugar, ¿no?.../Although the monuments and cobwebs look bad, the place is pleasant, more or less... There are somewhat dry trees around the place, the water that falls through canals is somewhat noisy, even so its marble floors are pleasant, its houses are homely bricks... Its dark air brings with it the cold, yet you are never alone with people breaking stone to make a sculpture or watching them make small porcelain things... It's a nice place, isn't it?..."
🍯Acantilado Azucarado/Sugar Cliff:
This town is exactly on the edge of a cliff, very crazy... But it has an incredible view, at least... The town is beautiful, there are wooden cabins everywhere and many candy stores... There is too much sugar cane, growing everywhere... This place has always been dedicated to creating sugar, then they started creating sweets... Their specialty has always been that, some sweets are distributed all over the world... Probably some more greedy sweets end up in the Castle...
Sólo una cosa más, no mires al acantilado.../If you like to smell sweet all the time, it's really not a bad place... Laughter is never lacking, while the manufacturers work, cutting cane or bringing fruit or flavoring, always in a hurry... Willing to work and create their magnificent sweets Some only decorate the packaging, it's like a factory... Although not everyone lives there for that reason, but only because they like the place... While the lanterns shine and the children play in the park, the normal thing of every day ...Just one more thing, don't look over the cliff..."

Mysteries Of The Bayou: Cajun Folklore And Legends
Ah, settle in, dear ones, as we embark on a journey through the mystique of the bayou, where whispers of Cajun folklore and legends weave tales as enchanting as Spanish moss draping the cypress trees.
The Rougarou Let me share the tale of the Rougarou, a creature of the night with a taste for mischief. As the moonlight dances on the bayou waters, locals speak of this shape-shifting beast – a reminder to keep the sacred traditions alive and be cautious when venturing into the unknown.
The Feu Follet Look closely on a moonlit night, and you might glimpse the Feu Follet, the mischievous "will-o'-the-wisp" leading wanderers astray. Cajun storytellers say these elusive lights are spirits guiding lost souls, adding a touch of magic to our bayou nights.
The Legend of Evangeline In the heart of Cajun history, there's the tragic tale of Evangeline, separated from her love during the Acadian exile. Her spirit is said to linger in the shadows, seeking her lost Gabriel along the moss-covered paths of the bayou.
Papa Legba Among the whispers of the bayou, the voodoo spirit Papa Legba guards the crossroads, offering guidance and challenges to those seeking mystical wisdom. His presence is a reminder of the rich spiritual tapestry woven into our Cajun heritage.
The Ghostly Isleños Travel to the haunting swamps, and you might hear the echoes of the Ghostly Isleños, Spanish settlers who mysteriously disappeared. Some say their spirits still linger, casting a spectral presence upon the bayou's edge.
The Sacrament of the Gris-Gris Deep in the bayou, crafting Gris-Gris bags is a mystical art. Passed down through generations, these enchanted pouches are said to bring protection, luck, and even love to those who carry them.
As the night settles over the bayou, these stories come alive, mingling with the sounds of crickets and the distant call of an owl. Our Cajun folklore, rich and deep-rooted, whispers through the moss-laden trees, inviting us to embrace the mysteries that dance on the edge of our vibrant culture.
Next time you find yourself by the bayou, listen closely – for it might just share secrets and tales of our Cajun ancestors, keeping the spirit of Louisiana alive in every rustle of the leaves and every ripple on the water.
Gather ‘Round The Campfire
Imagine the crackling flames of a bayou campfire casting dancing shadows as we gather to unravel the Mysteries of the Bayou. To accompany these tales, let us weave a tapestry of campfire activities and comforting Cajun delights, creating an enchanting evening under the Louisiana stars!
Campfire Activities
Bonfire Storytelling Circle Gather 'round the bonfire, my darlings, and let the bayou come alive with tales of voodoo queens, haunted swamps, and friendly spirits. Everyone can share their favorite Cajun folklore or ghost story, adding to the night's mystique.
Cajun Campfire Sing-Along Enliven the atmosphere with the lively tunes of Cajun music. Bring out the accordion or play some zydeco favorites. Let the rhythm of the bayou set the tone for our storytelling, making it a musical journey into the heart of our culture.
Bayou Night Walk Take a lantern-lit stroll along the bayou's edge, allowing the mysterious sounds of the night and the rustling of Spanish moss to envelop us. It's a chance to feel the heartbeat of the bayou and connect with the spirits that dwell within its depths.
Cajun Constellation Spotting Look up, my loves, and marvel at the celestial wonders above. Cajun constellations like the Rougarou or the Alligator Queen can be spotted in the Louisiana night sky. Share stories of these cosmic characters and let the stars weave their own tales.
Comfort Foods 'Round The Campfire
Gumbo by Moonlight Serve up steaming bowls of gumbo, its rich aroma mingling with the night air. Gumbo by moonlight, with the flickering flames as our only light, adds a touch of magic to our Cajun feast.
Cajun Sausage and Boudin Skewers Thread Cajun sausages and boudin onto skewers and roast them over the campfire. The smoky flavors and the crisp night air create a culinary experience as delightful as the tales we share.
Beignet Bonanza Transform the campfire into a makeshift Café du Monde with a beignet bonanza. These fluffy, powdered sugar-dusted treats are the perfect sweet indulgence under the stars.
Cajun Hot Chocolate Warm our souls with Cajun hot chocolate infused with a hint of cayenne for a spicy twist. Sip it slowly as we listen to the crackling fire and the whispers of the bayou.
Mossy Oak Cajun Popcorn Popcorn seasoned with Cajun spices and served in mossy oak bowls adds a touch of rustic charm to our campfire festivities. It's a crunchy, flavorful treat to munch on between our mystical tales.
Grandma Marie’s Louisiana Kitchen participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program.
Let’s embrace the magic of the bayou under the starlit sky. With storytelling, music, and comforting Cajun delights, our campfire becomes a portal to the enchanting world of Cajun folklore and legends.

Ahem.
Trick or treat!! I hope you have an amazing Halloween!! 🖤
(sorry for the delay, today has been! a day!!)
The ancient door opens slowly, creaking ominously as it goes -- you're kind of surprised they haven't oiled it, actually, given this is a working funeral home and all.
But Maxi steps out from behind it, beaming in his Masquerade finery - the storm gray suit with the skeletal black brocade on the arms and legs, the bones stitched corresponding to the limbs the fabric covers; the blood red dress shirt beneath. Makeup that same shade of red is smeared around his eyes, but he has his glasses on over it this time, clearly having not bothered with contacts.
"Well hi there, sugar!" He looks delighted, genuinely. "You're our first of the evening." He extends the pumpkin-shaped plate in his left hand, upon which rests lots of smaller pumpkin-shaped cookies (with some napkins off to the side - coordinating motif, of course). The jack-o-lantern faces are iced on, and you can guess who did which ones based on the shades of red, green, and purple that outline their features.
"It's just a pumpkin spice recipe," he goes on, shrugging shyly. "But they are a favorite, this time of year. Take a couple, why don't you, we've got plenty."
"The purple ones are better!" Hector's voice calls from somewhere further in the House.
"Aren't you still gettin' dressed?" Maxi frowns over his shoulder.
"Someone's hogging the eyeliner!" Hector hollers back.
"Get your own, you baby," you hear Rora echoing from somewhere deeper still.
Maxi looks back to you with a confiding eyeroll. "Anyway. They all taste the same," he whispers to you. "Hex's just prone to a very... avant garde decorating style."
It's true, the purple jack o lanterns are more likely to have odd rhombuses and swirls for eyes and noses, rather than the more traditional, cheerful shapes of the red faces. The green ones rather look like they've been overgrown with moss, or are all howling in agony.
"It's not mold, I promise," Maxi laughs a touch nervously. "Rora's just, uh. Very naturalistic." He frowns again, looking over his other shoulder. "Speakin' of her... just, uh, keep an eye out for trip-wires and stuff. But anyway!" He looks to you again, grinning. "Thanks for stoppin' by! I love trick or treaters, we almost never get any."
(The cookies, when you try them, are obviously oven fresh, tasting deliciously of pumpkin and weirdly reminiscent of warm autumn sunbeams.)
thanks so much, babe! :3c

I've been away from the game and trying to catch up! But it's slow work, because Duskhaven has been getting some construction done!
Like here, you can see me exploring the new museum area, perfect for a foggy fall day with the glowing moss and jack-o-lanterns helping guide your way, and beautiful mushrooms standing out against the grayness! 🎃🍄🪴 If you look carefully, you can see the little astronomy studying spot behind the trees 🔭🌛
