In this multiverse, what is referred to as "witchcraft" is essentially the magical application most AUs come to at some point or another. A sort of "truth" that the more one uses magic, the stronger they become and the longer they live. Witches are those who practice and study applications of magic with this understanding.

Morpheus actually had a "calm" period, while Pyrite (Dream) was still in stone. For hundreds of years, just maintaining the balance and not outright causing harm. It lasted until someone very dear and precious to him was killed and then he truly let the multiverse feel his rage and pain. This lasted until relatively recently, when the Dreamtale twins were finally able to agree to a truce. Moroheus's reasons for finally calming down again are unknown, but appear to coincide with the three mortals he has taken under his wing...

Some stuff about witches for this AU/blog

Notes

Rubedo (Killer) does not use any of these as she no longer identifies as a witch. Whether or not her broom is still bound to her is up for debate

Citrine (Axe/Horror) uses a staff to amplify his limited magic. Albedo (Dust) keeps his brother's wand instead of his scarf

Morph/Morpheus (Nightmare) is the only witch that makes potions, so there is only one cauldron needed in their tower

Dreamling fic idea

A Dreamling idea for a story that came to me (I am not a writer, please feel free to pick this up and let me know how it turns out!):

Basically, after Dream is captured and put in the fishbowl, the dreams and nightmares don't just fuck off to wherever because they think their creator abandoned them.

In this (AU if you want to consider it that) world Dream is respected but also beloved by his creations, and they leave the Dreaming with the goal of tracking him down because clearly something must be wrong for Dad Lord Morpheus to not come home.

They recall that Dream has that side quest going on with the pretty human man, so they stop by Hob's home to pay him a visit to see if he has any information, unaware that he has no idea who his Stranger is. They give him a crash course and he joins their hunt for Dream.

Hijinks ensue on the journey to find and rescue Dream with a happy ending.

Btw this is what I see in my mind when Hob + the dreams and nightmares finally storm the Burgess place to free Dream

Like he has so many immortal children it's so hard for him to imagine his kids dieing, like he'd put them in a coma to save em or something

I feel like if they do die, or close to death, he may turn them into Oneroi, is that possible??, so he can always be with them

Man can go visit his kids in their DREAMS, Zeus got nothing on him, buddy would be visiting his kids probably to spite him, we all know that one myth

Last note, I feel like Phobetor, God of Nightmares and son of Hypnos, wouldn't give his siblings nightmares, and only them, gives everyone else nightmares too

Hypnos family is probably the only good functional loving family tell me I'm wrong
