An abridged guide to Morph

Spoilers for X-Men 92/97

I feel like people who only watched X-Men 97 don’t quite understand all that Morph went through, why it makes sense that they would have such strong feelings for Logan, and why it was so incredibly rewarding to watch them mock decrepit Mr Sinister after Jean took away all his stolen dna.

Morph went through a lot in the original series. They were killed by a sentinel in the beginning of the 92 series, Something that Logan takes the hardest. It’s clear that they were close before Morph’s death with Logan remarking that they where “The only one that could ever make me laugh”

Morph is later resurrected by Mr. Sinister who controlled them and used them as a weapon against the X-Men.

Through all of this the one person who never gave up on them, who always went after them, and who even when they lashed out in anger let them know that he would always be there for them was Logan.

Eventually Morph managed to overcome Sinister’s influence and return the X-Men. They would then spend most of the remainder of the series recovering on Muir Island as they were traumatized both by sinister and their near death at the hands of the Sentinel. They briefly returned to the team but realized, after becoming paralyzed with fear during a mission, that they weren’t ready and left once again for further treatment. Logan and Scott made sure to visit him when they could.

Morph would remain there until the final episode when they would return to help the X-Men with a dying Charles Xavier.

A little context on these cuties.

They were found abandoned in an apartment, and we're pretty confident they were a breeding setup. Because they're adopted, we don't know all of their morphs, so if you recognize any please let us know!

First up is Cali.

Yes. She is a spider morph. If you're unfamiliar with them, they are (as far as we're concerned) an unethical morph because they are prone (by which I mean I have never heard of one without) to a nervous system condition known as wobbles. This can present in varying degrees of severity, and is often very stressful for the animal. If you want to get a ball python, and the breeder you're looking at offers spider morphs, please do not support them.

That being said, we're monitoring her closely to see how severe her wobble is, as she has already shown that she has one. She is a beautiful snake and if her quality of life isn't too bad, we'll be keeping her around, but if she's unable to live well we have already made the decision to not let her suffer.

At this time, she is not showing severe symptoms, and I'm hoping she will be able to spend many years with us.

She weighed in at 1242g and is roughly 47 inches long.

Next is Ato! She weighed in at 778g and is roughly 33 inches long. She's our shortest!

After her, we have Hym! Our only new male, he weighs 1498g and is roughly 48 inches long. A big guy!

After Hym is Terp! She weighed in at 1126g and is about 40 inches long. Terp has a bump on her snoot that the vet believes is akin to a callus, but we're going to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't grow.

Pom is next! She's our littlest, but not shortest!, weighing in at 621g and measuring around 40 inches.

And last but not least is Nia! Our biggest new addition, she weighs a nice 1530g and is around 48 inches in length! She had the biggest poo I've ever seen this morning and was scooty because of it, so she was a little hard to measure and she may or may not be longer than 48.

Nia has a stubby little tail, and we're hoping she's just ~like that~, but we're gonna make sure we keep an eye out for potential stuck shed issues because of it.

We're pretty confident Nia is a high melanin morph, but we could be wrong!

THE BEACH

I love going to the beach. Since I was very young I have loved going down to the beach, lying on the sand to sunbathe and spend the day swimming in the sea. The beach recharges my batteries and fills me with life, it's like medicine for me.

Now that I'm in the final days of my pregnancy, and I'm on paternity leave, every day I go to the beach for a while. I like to take the car and look for a remote and quiet place. The baby finally comes out and I wrap him in the T-shirt I brought to come to the beach. "Congratulations, you were very brave. You just had a beautiful and very big baby boy. Congratulations" the man says. I'm crying, my son is crying too. I sit down and rest my son on my flabby belly, it has lost the size it had after giving birth, but it is still swollen. It will be hard for me to lose all the kilos I have gained during these nine months of eating non-stop for two.

When we have calmed down a bit I grab my phone from my backpack and call Sam. "Hi my love. I'm at the beach and you won't believe it. Congratulations, you just became a daddy. This little guy didn't want to wait and he's born now, can you come pick us up? I love you".

Peekaboo's parents were a high-red (Red Factor or Redcoat?) Snow Motley/Stripe and a Diffused Hypo Lavender. I didn't observe any breeding behaviors and they did not produce eggs the year they bred, but Peekaboo's mom laid two fertile eggs the following year. One collapsed, and from the other sprang Peekaboo. At the time I assumed the clutch was fertilized by retained sperm.

If that were the case, Peekaboo should be at minimum het for Amel, Anery, Motley, Diffused, Hypo, and Lavender. So far I'm seeing no Lavender and no Diffused in clutch PR23 with Ringwood, my Peach Diffused Hypo Lavender guy. Peekaboo didn't prove out het Lavender last year, either.

I didn't pair Peekaboo's mom with anybody else. I got her as a subadult and I'd had her for two years before her one and only pairing, and she passed a month later from a retained unfertilized egg that I didn't know about until her necropsy.

At this point I'm thinking Peekaboo might be a parthenogenic baby?????
