i just like hate the way she phrased it lmfao like most people are AWARE they wouldnt be aristocrats in that time but the beauty of the modern age is that you can dress up in a costume or nice outfit and go to a fancy ball and NOT be a member of the aristocracy or even rich at all. Most people are just looking to go to their local annual regency ball, not actually go back and live in the 1810s. They just dont realize thats something people do already. And that they could probably get a community center or something to set one up if theres nothing nearby, considering the popularity of the show.

sorry. saw a video. this girl was like ‘if we brought back bridgerton balls u wouldnt be invited bc ur poor’ and ok whatever i get the historical class analysis but we like still have balls that are free and/or affordable now if u know where to look. my old church hosted a yearly regency ball. there are a bunch of reenactment balls out there. the issue with people saying they need to bring back balls is not just that they dont understand that specific kind was the way upper class did it (I guarantee you poor people also danced) but also that like they do have balls still that you can go to if you know where to look.

Joshua and Sixx talk about religion:

Sixx strolled up into the cavern, chewing at his lip before turning to face Joshua. “I found the compass. This works for Daniel, right?”

Joshua looked down at the compass, fixed together in a slightly haphazard manner, “I may need to fix your repairs. Not sure if it’ll last.”

“Yeah uh! Sure. You do that.“ Sixx sighed, then mumbled, “by Mars, I can’t believe that I’m working with the Malpais Legate.”

Joshua looked up at him, “Mars? I thought you didn’t understand religion.”

Sixx bristled, “Just because I don’t get your religion, doesn’t mean I don’t understand it. Mars is like- the one God and stuff. He makes crops grow and put the stars in the sky and causes war” Joshua sighed. Looking back down at the compass. “What does that mean. Joshua.”

Joshua looked up from the compass, making eye contact with the courier, “You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the Roman religion.”

Sixx shuffled his feet, staring back at Joshua, “Like you’d know, you’re a Mormona? Morkon? Morjom? Whatever it is. You’re not exactly worshipping Mars.”

Joshua sighed deeply, and went back to working on the compass. He fiddled with the top before speaking, without looking up, “It’s Mormon. And I founded the legion. I think I know about the religious practices there. Mars is the God of war- he’s not some all encompassing God, like the Father.” Joshua sighed again, “Daniel is going to have a fit if you try having this conversation with him.”

A shadow passed over Sixx’s face when Joshua mentioned his role in the Legion, and he turned away from Joshua. “I’ll go now. I forgot who it was I’m talking to.”

I continue with Elin's lore and now I will talk about her family, she comes from a Swedish family with Mormon roots, her mother Emily Blomgren was a housewife and her father Henrique Blomgren owned a wine grape farm, so They lived like an upper middle class family.

Henry was not someone who liked children very much and he only had them to make his wife happy (he lived to make her happy) but he was not very present in the lives of his daughters, he was a physically present father but emotionally absent.

Despite this, Elin lived happily receiving the attention of her mother, whom she adored and followed constantly, however everything went to waste after Emily suffered a miscarriage caused by having smoked during her pregnancy.

This loss destroyed Emily emotionally and she fell into a deep depression, to the point where Henry sought advice from the family doctor who recommended a lobotomy (yep, in the 60s they thought that opening your head would solve your problems) and Henry Not being able to bear to see his wife in so much suffering, he accepted the idea and ordered a lobotomy to be performed on his wife.

But as expected, the result was not someone healed but something similar to a zombie, Emily became an empty shell that could no longer even take care of herself, much less be a mother, so with all the pain in his heart Henry had to send Emily to a psychiatric hospital.

Without Emily, Elin had to fill the role of mother for her sisters, which caused Elin to acquire her people pleaser attitude and need to take care of others.

Currently Elin has an uncomfortable relationship with her father, she forgives him but he does not forgive himself and does not see the point in trying to repair his relationship with his other daughters since the other 3 hate him with good reason.

Eleanor is the second daughter of Emily and Henry, she is a police officer who came to Gravity Falls to take care of Elin and her nephews.

Eleanor is a serious, irritable and somewhat dense woman. She is not usually very friendly and does not tolerate being ridiculed. However, unlike Edgar, she is a clean and responsible police officer who knows how to do her job and considers it an honor.

Eleanor loves her sisters very much, however sometimes she cannot connect with them not only because of their personalities but also because of their lines of work which causes them not to get together much but they always enjoy spending time together.

Elsa is the third daughter and is a renowned actress and model who is currently in Switzerland. She usually calls her sisters constantly to keep up to date with their lives.

Elsa is a sweet, cheerful and quite flirtatious woman who likes to have fun, although she also has a double-sided personality with people she dislikes, being able to spread gossip about people who mess with her and with her fame it is easy.

Elsa is usually the one who insists on spending quality time with the family and is definitely the aunt who pampers Hector and Angie the most with expensive gifts and everything they want.

Ella is the fourth and last child, she works as an architect in Oregon and usually visits Elin and Eleanor from time to time.

Ella is an inexpressive woman who does not usually talk much and prefers to work alone, however despite her somewhat intimidating attitude she is much friendlier than she seems (being the complete opposite of Elsa), her introverted attitude being what holds her back.

Ella doesn't usually take the initiative with family time but she can definitely bring out her fun side by being in trust.

Sigo con el lore de elin y ahora hablaré de su familia, ella proviene de una familia suiza con raíces mormonas, su madre emily blomgren era una ama de casa y su padre henrique blomgren era dueño de una finca de uvas para vino, por lo que vivían como una familia de clase media alta.

Henry no era alguien que le gustaran mucho los niños y solo los tuvo para hacer feliz a su esposa(vivía para hacerla feliz) pero no estuvo muy presente en las vidas de sus hijas, era un padre presente físicamente pero ausente emocionalmente.

pese a esto elin vivía feliz recibiendo la atención de su madre, a quien adoraba y seguía constantemente, sin embargo todo se fue al caño después de que emily sufriera un aborto espontaneo producido por haber fumado en su embarazo.

Esta perdida destruyó emocionalmente a emily y se estanco en una profunda depresión, al punto en el que Henry pidió consejo al médico de la familia quien le recomendó una lobotomia(sip, en los años 60 pensaban que abrirte la cabeza solucionaba tus problemas) y Henry al no soportar ver a su esposa en tanto sufrimiento acepto la idea y mando a que le hicieran la lobotomia a su esposa.

Pero como era de esperar el resultado no fue alguien sanado sino algo similar a un zombie, emily se volvió un cascarón vacío que ya ni siquiera podía cuidarse a sí misma y mucho menos ser madre, por lo que con todo el dolor en su corazón Henry tuvo que mandar a emily a un hospital psiquiátrico.

Sin emily elin tuvo que suplir el rol de madre para sus hermanas, lo que hizo que elin adquiriera su actitud complaciente y necesidad de cuidar de los demás.

En la actualidad elin tiene una relación incomoda con su padre, ella lo perdona pero el no se perdona a sí mismo y no ve el sentido en tratar de reparar su relación con sus demás hijas ya que las otras 3 lo odian con justa razón.

Eleanor es la segunda hija de emily y Henry, ella es una oficial de policía que vino a gravity falls para cuidar de elin y sus sobrinos.

Eleanor es una mujer seria, irritable y algo densa, no suele ser muy amistosa y no tolera ser ridiculizada, sin embargo a diferencia de edgar ella si es una policía limpia y responsable que sabe hacer su trabajo y lo considera un honor.

Eleanor quiere mucho a sus hermanas sin embargo a veces no puede conectar con ellas no solo por sus personalidades sino también por sus líneas de trabajo que provoca que no se junten mucho pero siempre disfrutan de pasar el rato juntas.

Elsa es la tercera hija y es una reconocida actriz y modelo que en la actualidad se encuentra en suiza, ella suele llamar a sus hermanas constantemente para estar al tanto de sus vidas.

Elsa es una mujer dulce, alegre y bastante coqueta que le gusta divertirse, aunque también tiene una personalidad doble cara con la gente que le cae mal, siendo capaz de esparcir chismes sobre la gente que se mete con ella y con su fama es fácil.

Elsa suele ser quien insiste en pasar tiempo de calidad en familia y definitivamente es la tía que consciente más a hector y angie con regalos caros y todo lo que quieran.

Ella es la cuarta y última hija, ella trabaja como arquitecta en Oregon y suele visitar a elin y Eleanor de vez en cuando.

Ella es una mujer inexpresiva que no suele hablar mucho y prefiere trabajar sola, sin embargo pese a su actitud algo intimidante ella es bastante más amable de lo que parece(siendo todo lo contrario a elsa), siendo su actitud introvertida lo que la detiene.

Ella no suele tomar la iniciativa con el tiempo en familia pero definitivamente puede sacar su lado más divertido estando en confianza.

Cine: Latter Days (2003)

El título de la película alude a la "Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días", organización religiosa cuyos miembros son conocidos como "mormones". Cuatro jóvenes arriban a Los Angeles con la misión explícita de comunicar su fe, todos ellos llevando el título de "Elder" (son chicos de entre dieciocho y veinticinco años): Elder Aaron Davis (Steve Sandboss), Elder Paul Ryder (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Elder Harmon (Rob McElhenney) y Elder Gilford (Dave Power). El grupo se hospeda en un complejo habitacional y descubre que su vecino es Christian (Wes Ramsey), un joven abierta, orgullosa y (también hay que decirlo) promiscuamente gay que trabaja de mesero en Lila´s, un restaurante propiedad de Lila Montagne (la ganadora del Globo de Oro e ícono cinematográfico Jacqueline Bisset).

El inevitable choque de pensamientos y creencias genera una grieta entre los cinco, pero es Aaron quien, luego de un pequeño accidente en el patio, ayuda al díscolo Christian con su herida e inicia un acercamiento que lo aterra porque teme convertirse en una deshonra para su familia y su comunidad, además de ser excomulgado. Pero el amor puede ser más fuerte que el temor, ¿o no?

Una vez más, los prejuicios (los de Aaron y los de sus compañeros, pero también los de Christian) se convierten en una amenaza a la interacción e incluso a la vida humana. La historia de C. Jay Cox, autor y director del filme, tiene muchos puntos en contacto con la de Aaron, aunque su obra no es estrictamente biográfica: proveniente de una familia mormona, luego asumió su homosexualidad tras su paso por Los Angeles. Así, logró una película considerada de culto en la riquísima y variopinta historia de la cinematografía LGBTQ: cálida, divertida e incluso tensa debido a los efectos de la decisión de sus protagonistas, a los que se suma Mary Kay Place como la atribulada madre de Aaron, Rebekah Johnson como Julie, gran amiga de Christian, Khary Payton, en el rol de Andrew, un compañero de trabajo (también gay) de éste, y Erik Palladino, que interpreta a Keith, a quien Christian ayuda debido a que enfrenta el sida en su estado final.

#1 Don't look up

Dos astrónomos descubren que un cometa del tamaño de la Torre Eiffel se dirige a la Tierra y tienen solo seis meses para salvar al mundo pero la administración del gobierno lo toma para la joda y cuando ven que se pone seria la cosa, en vez de abordar la crisis con madurez, lo convierten en una negociación totalmente absurda.

La verdad que te cagas de risa y a la vez te pone a reflexionar sobre nuestra triste realidad de los políticos impunes enfermos de poder que solo gobiernan para unos pocos. O sea, esto puede pasar tranquilamente en la vida real.

Pero en este caso, el comienzo de esta que hice para @lanacion del #domingo , tapa del suple #Bienestar y destacada en tapa de la versión impresa de ese día,  tenía que ver con el final… así que te lo comparto…

Aunque hoy sabe que padece depresión, lo habla abiertamente y se ha comprometido a compartir su historia como un modo de concientizar a quienes puedan sentirse identificados, todo en su infancia comenzó con un proceso de ansiedad. Nacido en Utah, en el núcleo de una comunidad mormona, es el séptimo de nueve hijos. Allí el suicidio es la principal causa de muerte entre los 10 y 24 años y, según los datos, aumenta cuatro veces más rápido que en cualquier otro sitio de Estados Unidos. Reynolds experimentó ansiedad frente a la presión extrema para lograr objetivos. Su familia priorizó el éxito académico y adhirió estrictamente a las reglas mormonas. Su primer amor fue la música, lo que en la tradición familiar lo expuso a una constante situación de incertidumbre. Once again with gravity falls and HEAVY themes, this time I present to you Elin's ex, EDGAR WINCHESTER.

I also introduced Edgar's brother Edward or eddie to friends.

Edgar is a police officer who is currently in custody on domestic abuse charges. He is quite resentful of Elin and if he met her again he would probably think of nothing more than killing her and taking her children (fortunately this does not pass and is condemned).

Edgar is a person who appears charismatic and confident, he can read people well and knows what to say to get people to follow him, however this is a facade that hides his violent and volatile nature, Edgar usually takes it out on other people weaker than him and takes advantage of his position as an authority to get his way, he is a man who does not tolerate being questioned and who responds to any refusal with verbal or physical violence.

Edgar and Elin met in a Mormon church, he gave the image of the perfect husband being respectable, a good worker and incredibly charming, someone you could trust with your secrets, and that was the case for a while until he began to show his true colors.

Elin eventually had enough and filed for divorce, lying that it would be temporary and Elin ended up with custody of the children (much to Edgar's anger).

(And yes, Angie was the product of a non-consensual act).

Eddie is a close friend of Elin, he was the one who convinced her to leave the country after her divorce (he even paid for her vehicle), he usually visits Elin and her nephews very often along with Elin's sisters (I will talk about them in the next publication).

Eddie has his own podcast in Gravity Falls and talks about unsolved mysteries in town, it's basically a True Crime podcast (probably Dipper and Hector listen to it regularly).

Eddie, unlike Edgar, is a very relaxed person who prefers to read before fighting, he is genuinely nice although somewhat irritating with a somewhat dark sense of humor, but he is a good person.

Otra vez con gravity falls y con temas PESADOS, en esta ocasión les presento al ex de elin, EDGAR WINCHESTER.

También presentó al hermano de edgar Edward o eddie para los amigos.

Edgar es un oficial de policía que en la actualidad esta bajo custodia por cargos de abuso domestico, el esta bastante resentido con elin y si se la volviera a encontrar probablemente no pensaria en otra cosa más que en matarla y llevarse a sus hijos(afortunadamente esto no pasa y es condenado).

Edgar es una persona que se muestra como alguien carismático y confiado, puede leer bien a la gente y sabe que decir para que la gente lo siga, sin embargo esto es una fachada que oculta su naturaleza violenta y volátil, edgar suele desquitarse en gente más débil que el y aprovecha su posición como autoridad para salirse con la suya, es un hombre que no tolera ser cuestionado y que ante cualquier negativa responde con violencia verbal o física.

Edgar y elin se conocieron en una iglesia mormona, el daba la imagen de esposo perfecto siendo respetable, de buen trabajo e increíblemente encantador, alguien a quien podías confiarle tus secretos, y así fue durante tiempo hasta que empezó a mostrar sus verdaderos colores.

Elin eventualmente se canso y pidió el divorcio, con la mentira de que sería algo temporal y elin terminó con la custodia de los niños(para la ira de edgar).

(Y si, angie fue producto de un acto no consensual).

Eddie es un amigo cercano de elin, fue quien la convenció de irse del pais tras su divorcio(incluso le pago el vehículo), el suele visitar a elin y a sus sobrinos muy seguido junto a las hermanas de elin(hablaré de ellas en la siguiente publicación).

Eddie a diferencia de edgar es una persona muy relajada que prefiere leer antes que pelear, es genuinamente simpático aunque algo irritante con un sentido del humor algo sombrío, pero es una buena persona.

Eddie tiene su propio podcast en gravity falls y habla sobre misterios sin resolver del pubelo, es básicamente un podcast de true crime(probablemente dipper y hector lo escuchan regularmente).
