October Updates

Hello, my lovely readers, I hope you all are doing well.

Unfortunately, I have to announce that there won't be any October monthly voting because a relative of mine has passed away and all sorts of chaos and problems just got thrown in.

This was absolutely beyond my expectations when I just got out of my 3 weeks of nonstop work.

At the same time, it seems I have underestimated my work schedule and its busyness as it appears that we are still not out of the busy season this time because of unexpected events happening around us.

So any updates or posting of any fanfic may be slower than how I like as sadly, I won't have too much time to tackle writing these next few months.

But don't worry! I still plan to post a fanfic at least once a month especially since we did that Sung Jinwoo x Reader voting. I intend to post those in the future, I promise that.

For now, any monthly voting would be unstable. It might happen or not depending on how it goes with my work on that monthly.

I'm really terribly sorry for this and for the past weeks of bad news that has been going on.

This sabertooth descends from ancestors who must have hopped from island to island in the early Pleistocene. It is not so large by the standards of saber-toothed cats, hunts in ambushes and can bring down animals weighing up to a ton. It produces a loud roar to proclaim its territory, this call resembling a louder version of a man sawing a log.

Chondar has a coat of tan fur, with a brown mane around the neck and shoulders similar to an African lion, but unlike lions, the brown coloration of his mane also extends over his head and face. Like the island's cave bears, this saber-toothed cat has become accustomed to living in the highlands to avoid competition with the larger theropod dinosaurs of the grasslands. Unlike bears, these cats have to rely on a mostly carnivorous diet, so they have to constantly hunt highland mammals and birds.

thinking about how the series started and ended with the death of william james moriarty.

how death was so common in the series but always so visceral. how it happened so often but was always important, and how we, the readers, were always meant to understand the burden of ending a man’s life.

how william craved death as an atonement, how albert thought he deserved death but was too scared to reach for it, how louis was willing to die for his brothers regardless of the fact that he wanted to live.

how sherlock said death is the end, and that means the end of good as well as the bad. how sherlock said death erases nothing and fixes nothing as well.

how bonde and moran looked at death and instead saw rebirth. how they saw death as freedom from their pasts, and how they helped william to die and then william was reborn from the ashes of a burning bridge.

i don’t know. just… death in moriarty the patriot.

Okay back on my bullshit and I need to talk about these —

This to me is a direct call back by Sherlock to Liam pre- William James Moriarty. Baby Liam, before he stained his hands with all that killing and stole the identity of another child. Can you see the way Sherlock gets down on his knee like that? Know what it reminds me of?

How you speak to a child on their level.

“You’ve taken your first step …”

Also feels very child-oriented to me. And painting an ideal future …?

Sherlock is appealing here to the boy who never was; the boy who never got the chance to grow up and learn about his true self …

“My own self …”

Liam’s entire life has been spent behind a mask. His whole existence was that of a ghost; the shell of a dead child. He never gave himself permission to consider who he truly was; him him, and not William Moriarty, because the old him had to die in that fire all those years ago. I cannot even begin to think about what that must feel like.

And then along came Sherlock Holmes, and with a simple look during a moment of rare honesty from Liam — his genuine, child-like inquisitiveness at the sight of that spiral staircase provoking a trait that was truly his — his love of mathematics — Sherlock was able to effortlessly reach out and take the hand of the person who existed behind the mask.

A mathematician: one of the most elementary aspects of Liam’s character, indeed. His love of mathematics shone long before he committed his first act of violence. To be judged so quickly and found not to be the devil, but just a man who loves numbers — that was a glimpse of his true self that he’d almost forgotten about, amidst the pressure of his plans on the Noahtic.

Sherlock is also, aside from Louis and Albert, the only person to my knowledge who is aware of Liam’s true name — and because it was Liam’s choice to gift that knowledge to him. Recalling that Liam believed he was about to die, him giving Sherlock the evidence of his birth, as he was truly originally supposed to be, feels like a painfully poignant and intimate gesture.

Even we, the readers, are not privy to that information. It’s granted only to Sherlock; a secret they share.

The theme of rebirth is very present in the climax of the story, and Liam even states in his letter that if only he could be born again, this time he thinks he and Sherlock would be true friends. It’s desperately sad that he can’t see at that point that he doesn’t need to be reborn to get back in touch with his old self, because he’s still there inside of him. Sherlock is the proof of that, because Sherlock hasn’t found a friend and, dare I say it, a soulmate in William Moriarty, or the Lord of Crime. Sherlock has found that connection with the man beneath the mask.

During the moment on the Thames, William James Moriarty did indeed die a second time. But this time it was so that Liam, as his true self, could re-emerge. This is why he suddenly sees all those colours again — that which was buried is now brought forth towards the light.

Another small point to make is the decision to have Sherlock use Liam almost immediately. It’s a name that feels a lot more removed from the identity of William Moriarty than for example, Will. It’s new and something that’s very much separate from the dead boy Liam embodies. It’s a tiny glimpse of the branch in identities beginning once again after years of suffering his sins in silence.

I could go on and on about all this. It’s probably just obvious stuff to most people. But god damn is it the most beautiful story of losing and finding oneself again, even in the darkest depths of despair, because someone cared enough to reach out a hand.

Might just be my favourite.

It is here, my friends, it is here! The most awaited after-show talk of the Episode 26!!!

Azakami-kun and Enojun discussed their thoughts concerning what happened in the Plateau Auberge arc.

Some points of interest:

- RonToto’s relationship. “It is quite an unexpected development so far, and I was surprised. Growth, really, when you look back from episode 1, yes, yes, yes, they've grown, haven't they? It makes you feel nostalgic, doesn't it?”

- Both reiterated that every time Ron is in a pinch, Toto is always there to save the day. He was able to see beyond Tiger Dan’s lies. And Ron realised that Toto was right. He’s come a long way since the first episode.

- They mentioned that the case is quite long with “a prologue, a middle, an epilogue, and then a conclusion.�� And the number of characters who died was many.

- Both are asking for support for the anime, not only the original work.

Enojun : I hope this cool season will be a big hit.

Azakami: That's right, everyone's support is being transformed into strength, and we want to aim for first place on all the distribution sites. We have that kind of determination, and if that feeling has reached everyone, I'd be happy.

- They were amazed of the number of costars, popular ones, seniors and juniors, who were cast.

Azakami: It was quite a large group, and the recording was really a luxury, wasn't it?

I think it was Enojun who said : “After all, you can tell who the culprit is by the famous voice actors, right? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but everyone was so amazing that l didn't know who the culprit was.” (Both are laughing.)

- There was no huge gap between season 1 and season 2. So they were thinking if there was a huge one between seasons it might feel like, “long time no see.”

- They also mentioned that supporting cast members like Taku’s Spitz and Hikasa’s Amamiya had shorter appearances. Also, Matsuoka’s Milo Moriarty.

Azakami: They made such a cool appearance.

Enojun: They were the MVP, right? Spitz was amazing.

It must be the boon of voice acting industry when you are part of the cast but you don’t have many lines.

- Both were sad to see their costars disappear after a few sessions.

Azakami: Oh, “they're not here next week?" Just when you thought you were getting closer, they were gone. But Kosayu-san (Takehito, Tiger Dan) really brightened up the recording studio. (“His Tiger Dan was really cool!” <- Azakami-kun)

Enojun: Despite being the culprit, he seemed to be having a lot of fun.

- They gushed over the surprise voice actor of Mylo-bear, Neeko, who was Reborn on “Katekyo Hitman Reborn,” Akira Amano’s first successful work. Azakami said he was AA’s fan and was really elated. It delighted the KHR fans. In which way, Matsuoka told him his thoughts concerning the script.

Azakami: During a break, Yotsu-san quietly said, "Hey, I noticed something." In the script, it's written as "Milokuma," referring to Milo’s plush toy bear.

- Azakami wanted everyone to come back bc the story isn’t over yet. And they might have more lines to deliver. “Besides there is still that one traitor at the BLUE, right?”

- They were curious how will these individual characters interact with each other in the future.

- The two thanked the fans’ support and were amazed at the international ones, for the series’ popularity. Owing to the streaming sites, the recent stage adaptation and The Characters exhibition.

Azakami: I hope the story will be animated in the future, and I hope everyone will stream it near them.

Unfortunately, they didn’t discuss the “cancelled” sound of the dialogue at the end of the episode. Was it not a huge deal? Didn’t they get the excitement from the viewers? (Or did I miss that part?)

Anyway, here it is. I hope the third season won’t take long.

Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions Episode 26 Review + Final Thoughts - A Banger Of A Finale

I guess this is a BANGER of a finale. I wonder if they’ll announce a Season 3 because there’s definitely no way it just ends there without a solid conclusion to defeating the enemies. I hope they do. I mean, that’s the reason why they didn’t make RonToto kiss—they gotta delay it until the grand finale.

Anyways, the episode starts off with Toto telling Tiger Dan about his contradiction. If murdering Jim Gore was a success, then they wouldn’t have needed to kill the people involved, meaning that Jim Gore wasn’t murdered and that he was alive all this time. While he was partially correct, Toto still did a great job deducing it. This means that Ron’s father Eliot made a mistake and that was why he died, which was the reason why Ron lost some of his childhood memories; sometimes, memories of a very painful event can be erased from the mind because the brain does that. However, it turned out that Eliot wasn’t a terrible father as he loved Ron dearly. He married his mother who’s a member of the Holmes family and that’s how Ron is a forbidden child of sorts. Despite that Eliot wanted Ron to live his own life where he’s neither Moriarty or Holmes. Eliot does seem like he was a kind father; if Ron’s mother ever makes an appearance, I hope we get to learn more about Eliot.

It also turns out that the teddy bear belongs to Mylo Moriarty and he’s the leader of the M family. Did you know that the voice that the teddy bear used belongs to Neeko? If you’re not a KHR fan, you might not know this, but the voice that the bear uses belongs to the voice actress of the titular Reborn! First they got Hummingbird voiced by Takahiro Sakurai who voiced Shogo Makishima from Psycho-pass, a work where Amano designed the characters and now they brought in Neeko who was from Amano’s most famous work? What a great way to end the finale and the year. The cutesy voice does make the bear a lot more sinister.

The explosion scene was crazy but it was cool seeing Toto save all the people and then going back for Ron. Man, these last few episodes have been making Toto look super cool. See how he was in the beginning of the first season and compare him to now. His aura definitely changed. It was really nice seeing him going back for Ron because he cares a lot about him. The Spitz ex Machina scene feels surprising, but at the same time, it shouldn’t because Spitz did plant bugs on Toto, so he’s always there whenever he needs to be.

It feels like a waste that the stuff with Tiger Dan and Mylo wasn’t resolved, which means that there definitely will be a third season, but it hasn’t been announced yet. Please announce it soon! What’s the point of not resolving everything with the Moriarty family and not have RonToto kiss if you aren’t going to do a third season? I need more!

Not only that, but this is the first time the group has made direct contact with the M Family, so it only feels right to get a continuation to see where Ron and Toto will head next in their sleuthing misadventures—there’s also a spy who caused Ron’s condition, so we need that resolved too. I just hope it’ll be announced soon! The finale has a good conclusion, but it definitely adds more questions than answers. What do you think?

FINAL THOUGHTS

Season 2 of Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions takes a more serious turn now that the M Family has made themselves known to our duo. While I do miss the wacky misadventures Ron and Toto had while solving mysteries, I do feel like it’s nice that the story did take a bit of a serious turn now that the main antagonists are introduced.

I do feel like the cases have been divided into separate episodes this time around as the previous season did have one-episode cases while none of the episodes in this season did. I do think it was so that they can have enough run-time to squeeze in content until they reached a big arc. I also liked that some cases get a little trickier and that not all the cases are murder ones as Ron and Toto have to solve a kidnapping case as well. What stands out for this season is that some cases do have obvious murderers but the leads have to shake them down and learn of their motives.

Not only that, the major supporting characters also play a bigger role. Spitz is basically Spitz ex Machina with how he saves the day unexpectedly. Mofu is the biggest helper with how  she creates medicine to suppress Ron’s criminal-convincing condition. Amamiya also plays an important role with how she starts gaining more confidence with letting Toto handle cases and not look down on him as much as she did before. Chikori also plays an important factor with how her job as a reporter helps our dynamic duo. Though, I do wonder why Kawasemi is on the poster when his only appearance was by word of mouth by Amamiya. What was the point of having him on there?

Now that the M Family are formally introduced, you can’t help but wonder what will transpire next for them. Their influence in the underground crime world is so vast so it’s probably hard to detect their next move as they show up sporadically. Winter was interesting in that they don’t like Ron at all. Tiger Dan and Mylo were also interesting with how menacing they are. Mylo was definitely the most sinister with how he hides behind a teddy bear doll and even sets off explosives just to kill people. He’s definitely a sociopath. It’s also intriguing how he’s basically the antithesis of Ron in that he’s basically a color palette swapped version of him.

The animation was a bit lacking this season in that the background characters often don’t move or don’t have faces, but for an anime like this, movement isn’t really that important. The music was nice though. Though, the voice casting was definitely the highlight of the show as this anime has a quirky habit of casting prolific voice actors for one-off characters. Starting with the beach case, you get big names like Nobuyuki Hiyama, Takahiro Sakurai, Ami Koshimizu, Reina Ueda and Takehito Koyasu as characters that either die or are involved in a specific case either as the murderer or an important figure. Like, I’m still not over the fact that they casted Neeko as Mylo’s teddy bear. If they ever renew for a third season, just who will be casted as minor characters? Let’s just hope that Kawasemi actually makes an appearance if a Season 3 is announced.

To be honest, I do like this season a tad more than Season 1 now that the characters and story are established and that Toto isn’t a bumbling doofus constantly. He got his cool moments in the bigger arcs like the Shibuya case and the Auberge case. Ron also has cases where he gets vulnerable, showing off that he isn’t perfect all the time. The two feel more balanced this time and I really like that!

I know that I keep rambling for a third season and I still want it! Please announce Season 3 soon! I guess I’m going to have to read the manga now… What are your thoughts on Season 2 as a whole? Let me know!

Sherlock fandom. He hasn't heard his name been spoken for nearly two years.

Like a caress

All those months away did things to him. He was used to being in disguise on occasions in London, but only brief. Travelling around the world hunting down Moriarty’s network, didn’t allow him to be Sherlock Holmes. It was too dangerous, because to most of the world he was considered dead. Buried even. 

John’s prayer at his gravestone, almost broke Sherlock.

“Don’t be dead. For me.”

Those words haunted his dreams almost every night before he returned home. 

In his prison cell in Serbia, imaginary John talked to him, kept him sane and alert. Sherlock knew he wasn’t there, not for real, but his brain wasn’t functioning at its best capacity, so he made this version of John promise never to call him by his name. If his jailers heard, they wouldn’t end the torture until he talked, and he didn’t have the strength to hold on for that long. 

When Mycroft finally turned up, he called him by another name. The name he’d chosen to use most of his time abroad. It was like he knew Sherlock was in such a fragile state that he probably would collapse if even his own brother called him by his given name.

Back in his beloved London, Sherlock felt reborn. He walked the streets for hours to get re-acquainted with the old lady. His walk ended outside a black door with a brass knocker and the number 221 above it. Despite the fact it was two in the morning, the lights in the living room were turned on. John was awake, or he might’ve fallen asleep in his chair. Sherlock inhaled sharply when he saw John’s familiar figure suddenly appear in the window, gazing blindly into the night. He looked so lost, and Sherlock knew it was his fault. He was to blame for so much. It was almost unfathomable. He’d ruined the lives he’d jumped to protect. Could they ever forgive him, and John in particular?

Only one way to find out. 

Sherlock carefully ascended to 221B and opened the door without a sound. John turned around abruptly when Sherlock locked the door with a click that sounded like a gunshot in the silence of the flat. He paled, took a step closer, leaning his hands on the back of Sherlock’s chair, staring, drinking in the sight of his not dead friend. 

“John,” Sherlock said softly, feeling his heart flutter with excitement at seeing the real John again. His John.  

John’s face scrunched up and a sob escaped him. His knees gave way, but Sherlock had seen the signs and was at John’s side to catch him in his arms. John grabbed the front of the Belstaff so hard his knuckles whitened, and he cried into Sherlock’s chest, while Sherlock stroked his back soothingly.

When John spoke, Sherlock stopped breathing. His name had never before been spoken this reverently, this incredulous, this loving.

 “Sherlock. My God, it’s you. Sherlock, I’ve missed you so much. Sherlock.”

His name in John’s mouth was like a caress, and he didn’t need to be afraid of it being said out loud anymore. He, the man known by another name, many other names even, was back where he belonged, and he couldn’t wait for John to say his name again. Every day from now on.

From what I remember, Sherlock (who is an angel), John, & friends have to face off against Moriarty, who is a Fallen follower of Lucifer. However, Sherlock recognizes John as the latest reincarnation of his soulmate, & begins to Fall himself. There was some exposition on angel history & hierarchy, & Mycroft is a blind angel. Any chance this sounds familiar?

OMG this sounds SO BLOODY FAMILIAR. I thought, when you started the message, it was I Used to Live Alone Before I Knew You by etothepii, until you mentioned the soulmate iteration thing, which is KILLING ME because I feel like I've read this AGES AGO.

A story / comic SIMILAR to this theme, though, is the @sandmanlock comic, Endless Dream, which is a Sandman AU by Navydream and it's SO BEAUTIFUL and we learn near the end that John is "cursed" to continuously be reborn and forget Sherlock/Dream. It's a beautiful comic, highly recommend.

Not sure if it's THAT that you're thinking of? Regardless, like I said I think I have read that Soulmate AU story before, and would also like to know which it is.

Watching Moriarty the Patriot and, um… HELLO??!

This last episode is sooo fucking gay like??? A love letter??! Sherlock jumping off the ledge to catch Liam in a full embrace????!

It felt as though I had found the one person who understood me. Had our circumstances been different, I would’ve liked to converse with you at great length. For reasons I can’t quite explain, it feels as though you are a long standing friend. That is why I want you at my side at the moment I meet my end. No one else will do. If only we could be reborn in another world. Perhaps in the next life, things will be different.
