It's been a while since I posted. Here's an outfit from a bit ago that I never shared anywhere.
Hoping to come back to tumblr and get start posting fashion and expand out to books too, since that's another hobby that I really enjoy and want to find a community for 💖

🌲Hello friends :) 🌲
I have returned from hibernation to offer you the crinkliest of un-ironed linen co-ords featuring my vintage tablecloth apron and my green ticking op 🌱
🌲Green ticking op made from thrifted ikea bedsheet, self draft pattern. Styled with selfmade vintage tablecloth apron, refurbished woven bag and thrifted wool cardigan from next.
That cute little apron is made of damaged leftovers from the apron I made for my friend 💖

hyahime presents: J-Fash ghosts of the past - DOLLY-KEI.
not at all connected to the 'living doll' stereotype, "dolly" is merely the popular name of a style related to cult party kei and mori kei.
The pioneer for this fashion scene was the store Grimoire, which featured clothes and accessories antique dolls would only dream of wearing. Vintage, haunting and more mature than you'd expect, dolly-kei was heavily inspired by eastern european aesthetics.
The style was most popular around 2010.
Tumblr media
Come with me and explore the tombs of this no longer active style.
Tumblr media
What caused it to fall off?
perhaps the same reason for its initial popularity: dolly gained attention for having a little bit in common with a lot of other jfash styles. Many lolitas were interested, and some goths realized they liked certain elements too. With the lack of guidelines and specific rules, the freedom that made it possible for so many subcultures to enjoy dolly also made it lack defining features. It became harder to say what was dolly instead of mori, goth or lolita.
F Yeah Lolita wrote, in 2010:
"As the style is much less defined as Lolita is, as well as being very new, it's difficult to pinpoint what exactly makes something Dolly Style. It's a little bit Lolita, a little bit Mori, and a little bit Gothic. The skirt length ranges from full length to very hip mini skirts."
From the style's livejournal community, we see the same concern in december:

When seeing discussions of grimoire and dolly, I saw the tights being mentioned a lot.

But the hats, tessels and furs stood out to me more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 2015, Grimoire's 7th birthday party showed little signs of these traits spotted earlier, which had helped make dolly 'unique'.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of the fashion was gothic, girly.. but not specifically dolly. Or maybe it was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried going to the grimoire webpage but it's down and this post is getting long: i'll tell you where this ends.
Grimoire is now focused in a more mature audience and it has been reported that their clothes are more 'normie' and mainstream-like.
Tumblr media
A man will die, but not his ideas: in harajuku, many designers and fashionistas have been spotted in mori-like clothes with tassels and tights and cream coords that look like an old doll's.
The last mention of dolly in tokyofashion.com is 2019.

Frederick’s 30 Days Day 3: Are there fashions / aesthetics / styles outside lolita that influence your lolita style? If so what are they?
Historical fashion definitely influences me the most (as it influences all of lolita style in general, really)- I love Rococo/Victorian/Edwardian style looks, and I’ve been gravitating towards long skirts and classic prints for that reason. Historical costuming is my biggest hobby alongside lolita so it’s not really surprising I don’t think. This style I think also influences the ‘cottagecore’ or ‘hobbitcore’ aesthetic that’s really popular. Most of my daily wear is non-traditional lolita coords that use lolita items alongside vintage pieces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘Edwardian child core’ is a good name for this (coined by sainte-melasse, or at least I first heard it from her), lots of pinafores, poofy sleeves, pintucks (Metamorphose Anne of Green Gables, unknown image (likely a storybook), and actual Edwardian era girls) and often black stockings and lace-up boots
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Holly Hobbie (vintage art based on this same style), an inspiration for these really cute cottagecore bunnies by the artist Celesse. I love the peeking bloomers (and that they match the bonnet!) and it makes me really want to make a quilted apron like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Actual 18th and 19th century art. Clear inspiration IMO for layered skirts, ruffles, pintucks, big sleeves, corset lacing, and the prints we see in classic lolita.
I’m also hugely inspired by Fanny Rosie’s wardrobe and style- I think it’s a gorgeous blend of lolita, vintage, and historically inspired clothes and accessories and her ability to style pieces and mix colors and patterns is really incredible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A couple favorite autumn/winter looks where I think the historical influences really come through. (I’m wearing something similar today too- knee-length red wool coat with fur trim, Gunne Sax blouse, black/brown/cream wool sweater, calf-length brown skirt with a ruffle and short black lace-up leather boots over brown wool tights)
This autumn/winter I’ve especially been looking at layering skirts and sweaters/cardigans, so I’ve also been looking at mori kei fashion!
