if you like a piece of media that is good eventually youll more or less run out of things to say about how good it is but if you like a piece of media that is objectively pretty mediocre but also somehow deeply compelling thats how the demons get you

I don't talk about it a lot because it is an incredibly weird thing and I have no hard evidence and we did no autopsy (would've been pointless) but I fully believe that my mother was, as the beginning of a chain of several unfortunate events, ultimately killed by one of these "supplements". In August 2019 my mom and I were in the mall. She made a stop at one of these supplement shops and the clerk did a great job selling her on a giant $40 container of snake oil pills saying it'd help with her blood pressure and achy legs (an issue caused by her diabetes). I knew she was getting fleeced but arguing with her stubborn ass would've gotten me nowhere. We get home, she takes one of these enormous horse pills, goes to bed. Whatever.
Next day she wakes up outrageously ill. Weak, throwing up, can't keep any food down, barely able to drink water. She remained ill for a month, unable to even walk herself to the bathroom without help. When she finally got a little better, she immediately overexerted going grocery shopping and wound up sick again, on and off for weeks. In January 2020 we took her to the hospital, they gave her fluids and sent her home so she wouldn't catch the "flu".
She stayed weak and sick until her death by diabetic shock in February 2020. I stared at that giant container of bullshit pills for months after the fact and could never shake the feeling that they were at the very least partially responsible. There were a lot of things that resulted in her death, but she was perfectly healthy until she took that first fucking "supplement".
So again, I have no real evidence and personal anecdotes only count for so much, so do your own research. But these things are garbage no matter what, and the losers that hawk them prey on people who are desperate for relief from problems both imagined and long-suffered. No one can convince me they didn't start the wheel that killed my mom.
I just got served an ad on a mobile game that linked to a 45-minute video for a "breathing remedy" and the video is *such* a comprehensive collection of CAM manipulation and lies that I'm considering transcribing it to break down how CAM sales tactics work.
#cw death#CAM scam#not looking for condolences or anything#i'm over it#but if i can convince even one person not to waste their money on this crap then my job is done#especially if you're already sick#who knows how this shit is regulated or if it's even labeled properly#trust your doctor not a salesperson

Shout out to anyone that ever made a character that’s a ‘Secret Government experiment’ that escapes the lab and is now wanted and misunderstood. That’s top tier character design, thank you.
