The Spine of Night (2021) The rotoscoped animation is pretty low budget but man, the dark fantasy vibes are off the charts. If you're a fan of stuff like Heavy Metal or Fire and Ice, you'll probably dig this. On Shudder.

Movies watched in 2024
The Spine of Night (2021, USA)
Directors & Writers: Philip Gelatt & Morgan Galen King
Mini-review:
This was a weird experience for me. It has such rich and original lore, paired with a beautiful aesthetic, even if the character animation takes a bit to get used to. And yet, I couldn't help but feel pretty bored throughout most of it. Does that mean it's a bad movie? Definitely not, but I think I'm just not the target audience for it. Still, The Spine of Night is worth a watch if you're looking for a unique and visually stunning take on the dark fantasy genre.

books I read in 2023
I read 240 books in 2023, which is lower than my total books read than the past few years. But it'd be ridiculous to be bothered by it because, hey, I still read 240 books!
I set myself a goal of trying to read more out of my comfort zone this year. I wanted to read 30 non-romance books, 25 physical books, and 10 non-fiction books. By the end of the year, I'd read a total of 54 non-romance books, 62 physical books, and 27 non-fiction books. I'm hoping to continue in this vein in 2024.
Other stats - for fun -
My most-read author was Cassie Mint
I gave out 32 5* ratings
My most-read genre was (of course) romance, 120 of which were contemporary
I owned most of the books I read
I read the most books in June, with 34 books read, followed by August, with 25 books read
My most read trope was forced proximity, followed by hate-to-love
So, below is a list of the books I read this year. Rereads are italicised, favourite reads are in bold.

CHERRY THE GEEK TV-INTERVIEW: MORGAN GALEN KING, PHILIP GELATT, AND LARRY FESSENDEN FROM "THE SPINE OF NIGHT"
CHERRY THE GEEK TV-INTERVIEW: MORGAN GALEN KING, PHILIP GELATT, AND LARRY FESSENDEN FROM “THE SPINE OF NIGHT”
THE SPINE OF NIGHT is a new, ultra-violent epic fantasy animated film aimed at adults that is set in a land of magic and follows heroes from different eras and cultures as they battle against a malevolent force. It’s got gore and nudity (but not sexual), and it’s old-school rotoscope animated style harkens back to the cult animated films of the late 70s/early 80s–films like Heavy Metal, and Ralph…
