Invocaciones #1 Insurrectes

Hello! Yes, I know I barely post but I love these little games with @two-hands-toward-the-sun . Thanks for tagging me! So here are some of the albums i’ve had on repeat lately.
Funfact about me: I used to get a laugh out of my parents by randomly identifying Santana's guitar cameos in other songs. That's totally their fault by the way, Supernatural was the soundtrack to my first 5 years of life lmao. That album and Caraluna by Bacilos which if you haven't heard it, that's another banger.
Oh, and I suppose I should mention the Sentimientos album. I recently made a trip to Puno, in Peru, a place in which saya and afrobolivian music is very popular because... well, they are neighbors XD. Afrobolivian music, morenadas, diabladas and caporales are soooo good and make me wanna dance all the time! Give them a shot if you want to experience some different sounds!
#That's all#also Sting my MVP that has stayed as my fave artist for more than a decade#that man can write a song but can also COLLABORATE#Janelle Monáe my beloved#their albums are so tasty and smart#SODA STEREO I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU#Prelude to ecstasy's first track was a wonderful surprise!#this is my little sibling making me talk about music and i love them for that

“Hello, my name is Milenka Gutierrez Albarracin, and I proudly identify with the vibrant and culturally rich city of La Paz, Bolivia, where I was born and grew up biking its streets, climbing my grandma's trees, and sledding down its mountains. My parents are also from La Paz, grounding me deeply in its unique blend of history and tradition; growing up in a Villa (Villa Armonia, San Isidro Bajo), I loved going to the nearest tiendita for candy, to misa with my grandma pa bendecir al niño, knowing all the neighbors' kids, and playing with my cousins who lived super close. We are a very close large family, so we grew up with family parties, picnics, and travels. My roots extend further into the highlands, as my grandparents migrated from the Quechua and Aymara-speaking towns of Aucapata, Mecapaca, and Caracato, where as a kid I got to explore their mountains for fossils, played and fell in their rivers, picked fresh fruit, learned great survival skills, danced Morenada with the adults in the plazas during presets and shared delicious food with people from other towns. These connections have deeply influenced who I am today.
Growing up, I was immersed in the diverse cultural practices of the urban La Paz and the mixed indigenous heritages of my grandparents. This blend of city life and ancestral traditions instilled in me a profound respect for Bolivia's multicultural identity, the love and protection of its natural areas and animals, and the support and service of its people.
As I moved to the US when I was a teen along with my hard working single-divorced mother, my childhood and genetic ADHD influenced future choices. My love for rocks and animals became a love for science in general. After graduating high school I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Neurobiology and Physiology at University of Maryland and went back to earn my Master's degree in Biochemistry. After a few years working in the lab and the medical field, I decided to combine my passions for science, research, and education, and I transitioned to teaching middle and high school science. What started as a need to continue learning science became a passion to bridge the gap between scientific exploration and academic advancement for my students. I wanted to make sure that they understood the interconnections between science (microbiology, chemistry, neurophysiology), their bodies, and the entire world and universe they lived in. I made my classes as interactive and open as possible, fostering their curiosity and motivation through initiatives such as Science Club, collaborating with NASA members, and establishing MakerSpace Stations with the support of my beloved principal Mrs. Durney and NIH.
Throughout my career, I have been committed to fostering STEM educational empowerment, promoting diversity and inclusion, and advocating for fair treatment and representation of the Latinx and Bolivian community. Currently, I serve as the LOFT Program Coordinator, Navegando Tu Futuro Académico y Profesional Program Lead, and IBM SkillsBuild Partner Lead at the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, where I play a pivotal role in supporting our Latinx community with free academic and professional programs and opportunities. My focus is on providing resources and avenues to Latinx youth for professional development, ensuring that individuals get inspired, prepared, and connected with a network of professionals, and find the tools and strategies they need to succeed in their chosen fields.
My family and heritage continues to shape my worldview and drives my passion for celebrating and preserving our cultural and environmental legacy. As a result, I co-founded and currently manage the community organization Todos Somos Bolivia (TSB). In 2019, amidst the devastating Amazon and Chiquitania Forest fires, my great friend Lizzett Uria and I founded TSB to support volunteer firefighters, animal refugees, and affected communities across Bolivia. Our organization continues to advocate for the protection and conservation of Bolivian forests, while also championing the rights of humans and animals affected by yearly man-made and climate change worsened fires and other catastrophes. We provide support and raise awareness through various media platforms, ensuring that needed help is provided to the forest rangers and firefighters mitigating protected forest areas and at the same time that these critical issues reach the public eye without bias. TSB supports firefighters, wild animal refugees, and local communities during the mitigation of these fires that devastate the Amazon and Chiquitania Forests during the driest months. Additionally, TSB extends its mission of care and support by providing essential supplies such as food, milk, rice, and toys to children's orphanages, elderly homes, and dog shelters throughout the Bolivian nation.
Finally, as a means to support family with their celebrations, I started creating a few little decorations and gifts and that ended up becoming my small company called Alba Designs LLC. What started during a baby shower with regalitos de plantitas, became a personalized merchandise store. I have been able to make special things for family, work with the general public, companies, organizations, public and private schools, and even help celebrate and honor Bolivian artists collaborating with the Foundation for Bolivian Artists, TRES MINUTOS Music Band, and the Oretea Brothers from Duende Camaron and MCO Guitars. This has all helped me to develop my free-style art and design while emphasizing my Bolivian heritage and supporting TSB with donations.
PS: Married for 13 years, together for 19 years with Luis Torrico Patch (Bass Player of TRES MINUTOS Band).”

I was looking at some pictures I had from when I was single. My wife starts to look, and starts to laugh. I don’t know how many years I’ve danced. Tinkuy, morenada, kullawada, everything. And laughing every time we dance. For example, the kullawada is a La Paz dance, isn’t it? It’s mestiza, isn’t it? [The dancer] wears a hat with pearls on it, some decorations like that. And with some wide pants; with [stiff] lapels – it looks like they’re made of cardboard, doesn’t it? Well-adorned like that. And the key to that dance is to move the shoulders, right? Dancing like that, flirting. Well, I’m not so… into that dance, let’s say. But I think it’s from the clothes of the llamerada dance, isn’t it? It seems that they are driving their little llamas, doesn’t it? That’s their clothes, but much more stylised, more exaggerated.
[For] the tobas, we had comrades who had the same long hair, just like me. We said the six of us would dance it. And on that day of descent [from the mountain], the six with our loose hair, well-painted like Apaches – all the people took our photos because they liked that we were original. I don’t think it’s our culture, is it? It seems like it’s another culture. At least I see it that way, but I don’t know. We didn’t know either. If you see someone dancing the morenada, he’s going to tell you what his story is. [The tobas] is not so clearly Bolivian. Perhaps [it] has a relationship with us, at the end of the day – because it is the same continent, isn’t it? And if you realise, our culture was also not so far from that. We look something like them, don’t we? There seems to be a dance of the Incas everywhere, doesn’t there? – Amilcar
