Via @joeramsden60 With one big leap.. Leopards don't like swimming across crocodile infested waters.. and if they can they'll take to the shallowest part of the stream or river or better still, where the river is narrowest they'll try clear the water with one big leap. www.thru-the-lens-safaris.com #botswana #botswanasafari #ilovebotswana #leopard #photosafari #moremigamereserve #okavangodelta #bigcatsafari #canonwildlifephotography https://www.instagram.com/p/B6RMjOMpATu/?igshid=1g5r9f1ncmu9g

Near death experiences in Botswana
We crossed the border to Botswana.  Botswana is all about the safari, just in case we hadn’t done enough of that already!  We spent our first night in Chobe National Park Riverfront camping on the banks of one of it’s rivers.  Unlike other National Parks we’ve camped in, in this one there was no barrier around the campsite, & therefore we were under strict instruction not to stray from our camping site after dark, not even to go to the toilet block, due to the risk of meeting a wild animal.  I experienced this danger first hand, when (in broad day light –not breaking any rules!) I was walking along the road to the toilet block, when I noticed there was a lone buffalo grazing beside the road, he noticed me around the same time & must have felt threatened, & turned, & started charging towards me; I literally saw my life flash before me as I sprinted in the opposite direction & dived into a nearby bush, all the while waiting to feel the buffalo head butting me with it’s large horns, thankfully I never felt it & when I ran into the bush, he decided just to run on past.  However, once I knew I was safe I realised I had chosen a very prickly bush to dive in to, & so I was covered in scratches, however, it could have been so much worse.  It was one of those moments that really make you stop & think & appreciate life (& also to be very careful around wild animals!).  We went for sunset & sunrise game drives & saw herds of warthogs, water buffalo, crocodiles, eagles & vultures to add to the collection of animals we’ve already seen.
We then spent our one year wedding anniversary crossing the border to Zimbabwe to visit the stunning Victoria Falls.  We even treated ourselves to a helicopter ride so that we could admire them from above; just being in a helicopter was a pretty cool, & the views we got of the waterfalls were amazing.  The Zambezi river & falls are spectacularly situated within a canyon that was formed by the movement of tectonic plates millions of years ago.  They are not the tallest or the widest falls in the world, but apparently the ‘largest’.  The falls have a particularly large volume of water flowing through them at this time of year, which meant that at times you couldn’t see the falls for the spray, & we got very wet when we went anywhere close.
We then headed back into the Chobe National Park, but this time to the Savuti part.  Again we stayed in a campsite within the national park without any barrier, but this time thankfully we avoided another wild animal attack!  The next day we headed to another national park, Moremi.  We spent both days driving for hours, on very bumpy roads, & saw very few animals –I guess that’s just the nature of safari.  By this point we were starting to grow a little weary of safari, & I even had a bit of nap in the passenger’s seat during one section that was particularly lacking in animals.  We then headed to the Okatango Delta, a beautiful area of islands & channels, rich in wildlife.  The first day we explored the delta by water, on a Mokoro (dug out canoe).  As a word of warning about the potential dangerousness of hippos, our guide told us about one time he had been guiding some other tourists & they had aggravated the hippos, to which the hippos responded by attacking, which resulted in one losing a leg & the other breaking all their limbs, & so keen to avoid any further altercations with wild animals we were very respectful when we met a hippo chilling in the water.  There was one moment however when we passed some elephants drinking, & one particularly large one turned as if he was about to charge (that’s how it felt to me anyway, but I may just be a bit wary after my experience!), however, our guide then made a noise that scared them off.  The next day we explored the delta from the air, in a lightweight aircraft, from which we got stunning views, & even spotted some animals, including a herd of 74 elephants.
