Summary: Life hasn’t been easy for Aaron but with his girlfriend Genevieve by his side, he’s slowly starting to discover happiness again. But then he meets Thomas and his life only gets more complicated. In a world where you can have your memories erased by Leteo, wouldn’t it be easier to simply forget all his struggles?

This book was beautiful and heartbreaking. It dealt with such a wide range of important and heavy issues in very gentle empathetic way. I do have to say that the blurb of this book does miss out a very important part of its concept (the Leteo project) but at least this gave way to more surprises in the plot, which is the great thing about this book - it’s full of clever gut-wrenching twists and leaves you thinking ‘wow.’ All the characters were not only three dimensional and complex but all added a new perspective or plot to the story. Moreover? structure of this book was excellent and it left me with MANY thoughts and feelings.

Although I loved this book you may have noticed that it only has four stars. I think part of the reason for this may have been due to my incredibly high standards; all of Adam other books have left me weeping for long after, wanting the best for my newly adopted fictional children. The problem is, I wasn’t a big fan of any of the characters (bar Genevieve). I don’t want to say the main character was a dick because he went through so much, but there was probably nicer ways he could’ve done what he did. So, although I pitied him and felt sorry for him, his story didn’t leave me in inconsolable tears because I was also angry at him. Of course I will applaud Silvera’s creation of such a complicated character but they just weren’t to my taste.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. Although it was missing Silvera’s magic touch that seems to have developed over time, the idea was genius. It expertly explores homophobia, the power of our memories, depression, and what it means to be happy, in a very clever and emotional way - so even if you have no connection to these topics I would definitely pick it up.

There is a line in @adamsilvera’s MORE HAPPY THAN NOT that goes, “But I always want to know you, even if we’re in the same room and you're just saying hi to me over and over again, I'll be perfectly happy. I'll always want to be sitting across from you.” And it perfectly captures how I feel about Adam and his work. I love how he writes everyday moments with a severe awareness of human connection. A poignant story of two teenage boys who learned that they have less than 24 hours to live. While reading the book, I somehow wish that there will be twists in the end where both of them get a chance to live longer. That somehow the Last Friend Inc., the Deckers, and the concept of someone receiving an alert saying that he’s gonna die in the next couple of hours are all part of a bigger picture. It’s a book that, by its title of course, you already know the ending, but you keep on guessing and hoping and praying that “they won’t die at the end.” . Every minute of each day really counts. El nivel de angustia que sufre el protagonista (y tantas otras personas en la vida real) por temor a no ser aceptado, que tu familia te juzgue y tus amigos se alejen, es algo simplemente terrible. ☹️ Cuando los amigos lo golpean... se me estrujó el corazón ante el dolor del protagonista al tener a sus amigos de toda la vida, golpeándolo por simplemente ser como es, por querer a alguien que la sociedad te dice que no debes querer. 😊 *FIN SPOILER* ☹️ Sinceramente espero que si leíste este libro hayas llorado y ardido que ira al mismo tiempo.
