god, armand as a character is giving me serious brainrot. he's such a control freak because he desperately needs to derive meaning from something—anything. whether it's god, rituals, or coven life, he needs to give a purpose to his existence. this is why he upholds these stringent laws and regulations in both of his covens, which are ultimately destroyed by someone he loves who stands outside it all. and he kind of just allows that destruction, despite all of his power, because he is also... bored? it's like he's on autopilot, going through life in this meticulously constructed routine until he meets lestat and later louis, who both refuse to adhere to his carefully crafted structures and disrupt the status quo. this is attractive to armand because deep down, underneath his all masked emotions, he is very lonely and desperate for connection! which is just awfully human for such an ancient powerful being
imagine being this old and alone, how do you endure? armand tries to find value in these rigid structures because otherwise, his life feels empty. "he needs rules to give him purpose" but in the end, this doesn't fulfill him completely because, despite his feigned confidence and stoicism, he is insecure, needy, and traumatized. this is why he seeks out chaos despite having spent all this time trying to control everything and everyone around him. he lets it happen—for love, but also, i think, because unconsciously he desires that total loss of control, which allows him to actually feel something real. every few decades, he almost intentionally lets his entire world, the world he worked so hard to manipulate into his will, be ruined. yet, when he tells daniel he "let it happen," he is lying, too (at least about lestat) because he presents himself as more passive, composed, and reasonable than he really was when his way of life was threatened. he just tells himself that he wanted it that way all along so he remains the one in control. i need to see him crack

You know it's incredibly funny that early in act 1 Wyll apologises for not telling you his surname which while get why he thinks is something worth apologising, is ridiculous given he's the one who tells the party his surname first by far. You have to kill gale to get that info. Karlach and Astarion both only reveal it in act 3 and Astarion only tells you if you're dating him. Shadowheart gets a pass for not knowing hers and while Of Creche K'liir is as much as a surname as Of Waterdeep by faerun standards it is like actually the closest thing Githyanki get to one so props to Lae'zel for coming out of the gate with that one.

Thinking a lot of thoughts about how for 500 years, Armand has been able to flash his big scary orange puppy dog eyes at anyone and say "I'm sowwy" and everyone just goes "aww that's okay, you've been through so much, who can blame you? Poor thing!" And so he has gotten away with SO MUCH heinous shit, and continues to! From ancient powerful beings who you would think would be less susceptible to his fuckery!
And the ONE person, one MORTAL person who is utterly immune to his charms, his pitiable demeanor, his angelic face and innocent voice, who can't stop Armand from wiping his mind or controlling his body but is impervious to Armand's efforts to mask his Rancid Vibes,
is Daniel.

I really don't think that we aren't getting the scene where Armand turns Daniel.
We got Louis, Claudia and Madeleine's turning. We are going to get Lestat's and probably Armand's turning as well. So, what? You think they are gonna leave out Daniel specifically? Why?
Also regarding Rolin's comments about the Dubai set etc. if it's true, it just means that Armand didn't turn Daniel in Dubai. It happened at a later point.
And if it happened later, I refuse to believe Armand turned him out of spite.
Like I simply don't think Armand wouldn't turn Daniel when he is at the peak of his rage but do so later and out of spite?? Nuh huh, that's not gonna happen.
Basically, if it happened in Dubai, there is a chance it might have been out of rage. And if it didn't happen in Dubai then there was definitely some other reason why Daniel was made a vampire.
Assad said right now the question is what happened in Dubai? And of course after watching the episode we all have assumed that Daniel was turned in Dubai. What if the reveal is that it actually didn't happen there???

Tbh Nadeko snake’s more direct SH allegory being cut down for the anime to be more ambiguous is one of those things that like change how the character is read. Granted its one of those adaptations things abt monogatari that are kind of blanket across a lot of characters, since Bake has a broad theme of self harm recovery even if it doesn’t stop the specific issues each character has (the climax of tsubasa cat is that none of these people should keep hurting themselves like this, even if aspects of it persist, second season deals with concepts of relapse more on the individual characters sense, and owari has to do with the consequences of araragi’s relapses and him learning to deal with recovery and not to like end his own life, even facing regrets and continuing living. Off season is sort of similar to the end of owari with it being about personal growth and transitional periods (though some end up in odd positions with like, canceled plans like Tsukihi protag). And the themes after sort of take an odd loop after that with ideas of growing up and the distance between being an adult and not, and parent all neglect, etc. Monogatari has like a lot of themes but I think finding the threads and examining them are interesting)
The idea of the snake as a self harm thing sort of persists through and through different Nadeko arcs and very much in how characters react to it. Like Kanbaru’s deal with the self harm goes on the concept of it’s generational weight, its escalation, and it being long term (since Kanbaru doesn’t exactly commit to the idea of the gaen family doomed teen pregnancy reading, which is like a way to read the situations of other gaen family members + others.) like Tooe went up to her daughter and taught her to self harm and internalized a lot of weird ideas about mental health into her #mother moment. Kanbaru has a lot of interesting characterization there should be more essays on her.
To re-track a lot of Nadeko’s self harm is on it being extremely dangerous in short term, it didn’t have the chance to become long term after all.
Anyway so like Koyomi in otori trying to keep Nadeko from like, the allegory of the snake, and then failing with the talismen. Is so very. The social consequences of the allegory of the snake reaching those who hurt Nadeko but not fixing the social situation, which just puts a lot of eyes on Nadeko whenever she enters the room. The parents not knowing and not wanting to know the allegory of the snake.
It’s interesting to think on.

The scene: Louis and Armand chat for a little over 2 minutes in their jail cell of bedroom about the missing journal entries and regaining control of the interview and getting to that boy that's still in there.
The Ted Talk on every minute detail about this scene that I bother my friends with: longer than the actual episode's runtime.

I've never had the self-insert OC autism but this has been an exception.
My fanbot: Pluto!
Designs are not final, I only own one masquerade mask, I hate designing clothes sometimes, blah blah blah
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So glad when I came on here and saw that this is a normal thing y'all do. Makes me feel less weird :)
You can read about Pluto under the cut!
Pluto - They/Them - Gold-plated - Manager (and sometimes vocalist)
Designed in the mid-1700's (Rococo period England) by astronomer Francis Kuiper. Kuiper was a trans-man and, as such, couldn't give his wife Isabella any children. Instead, he designed what he called "The Star Child", a genderless being from space that could fill their empty home.
In 1946, Peter Walter IV, while researching great astronomers, finds the lost Star Child drawing and decides to build a brand-new Blue Matter Robot. They're dubbed 'Pluto' like the newest discovered planet in appreciation for the advancements in space technology. They're also given two dials on their neck, which act as voice modulators, in the event that another robot cannot perform vocally. (Only in a vocal capacity. Said robot would still need to be visible on stage, miming their words, and playing their instrument to keep the illusion.) They mostly act as the band's manager.
Pluto's design pulls from the painting Starry Night, the aroace flag, and rococo masc and fem fashion (or at least what we wore in Cinderella, which is where Kuiper is from)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're good friends with Hatchworth (who gave them the Fancy Shoes, since they act like fake royalty) and the Walter Workers (being a manager and since they have the same blue hair). They often use their voice modulators to scare the other robots, speaking as their 'subconscious'. They don't usually perform as themselves since they refuse to wear the band's red and black uniform and can't play any instruments, but they do love Star Valley Night. They are simultaneously the youngest and oldest robot (which is a metaphor for autism).
My friend does robot drag, so I recorded some videos to be critiqued. You get one since you read all of this, presumedly. Thank you, signing off.

[ID three drawings of ellen and peter, two of them color digitally. first is ellen laughing with a black tipped claw hand up, with pointed ears, gothic dress, and intricate jewelry. she is a vampire. second is peter looking to the side with a frown. he has locs tied back in a loose ponytail and is wearing more worn clothes as well as a rosary and cross. third drawing is pencil with peter sweating and scared/flustered as ellen holds his head and shoulder to bare his neck, grinning with her fangs out. /End ID]

noticing a pattern in my writing/OCs of 'monster that preys on people pretending to be human/human-adjacent'. i mean it's not the first time i've noticed but i've been thinking about three of them recently so like. a pattern.
#there's zenith and achlys#then ivan in the original monster god au#no longer applies to casimir in that translation b/c he's open about the monster thing#glancing through my oc list to see if this has happened before#i don't think jay counts. he's like... demi-human which isn't a people-eating species. he's just fucked up#narissa from pbjverse might count. she's a succubus. and skylar for the same reason.#pbjverse just is gonna have that by nature of the 'monsters are real' thing as the main feature.#same with somaverse.#we just don't have other established characters that follow this pattern in those verses yet#wait. corona and lucan. they're in pbjverse. i forgot. same species as casimir but masking as human.#darion and seraphim from an unnamed fantasy verse i may or may not merge with tehahsverse#they both fit the bill. former humans turned into creatures that feed off emotions. both pretending to still be human.#so seven total plus jay as questionable.#au versions of characters like god au ivan... if i count them there's. more.#bc then i'd have to look through all the vampire AUs#* eight. eight total. i missed skylar.#eight established at least. potential for more in somaverse and pbjverse.#if it's just 'monster that preys on people' full-stop then. uh. There's More.#hang on#15 plus jay established. way more potential in somaverse and pbjverse.#but i feel like the 'pretending to Not' is important y'know. we don't worry about the rest of them.#i like the 'hello fellow human(oids)' aspect! it's fun!!#also before i finish this post just noting i'm amused at 'plus jay'#not a monster TECHNICALLY. metaphorically? absolutely.#he just doesn't have the 'i'm wired this way i can't help what i need to eat' excuse#he chose this lmao
