As most of the chronic tiktok users on this app probably know, it recently came back to us this afternoon. I can’t lie, I only started to be active on this app as a result of the ban. HOWEVER, I kinda want to stay.

FIRST people on here can get away with astronomical levels of freak compared to tiktok without any “oh that’s not!” comments. (This may or may not be in regard to shadowvanilla). And honestly, just fandom/shipping culture in general.

Like—god forbid you EVER mention a non-canon ship on tiktok, or even have non-canon HEADcanons. Back in my day, when i was still into mha, you could ship the wildest (let me clarify LEGAL—i don’t fw none of that illegal stuff)pair, but nowadays an utterance of kiribaku has people rioting.

So, as someone who enjoys rare-pairs and a little bit of mischaracterization for the funnys here and there (bookstreet reference), this app is AWESOME.

SECOND—kind of stemming from the first point—my oc stories are probably more welcomed here than… on that app.

Finally, I fucking hate that orange bitch, AI, and elon, and you can count on the fact that I will refuse to use tiktok if it becomes meta or American owned. Free speech was the best part of tiktok, and now I have no doubt they’re gonna try to restrict that.

As a bkdk artist who's been in the fandom since 2018, one thing that always annoyed me about antis is when I (and other bkdks) posted bkdk art back then, I'd see ATLEAST one comment saying "your artsyle is cute, but bakudeku is a terrible ship" or "I don't like bkdk but your art is so good. Maybe you could try drawing krbk next?" Or even "how could you even like this ship. Hori himself said that izch is canon."

The "your art is good but this ship sucks, draw something else" comments sounded like backhanded compliments. Like I'm passionate about the ship so I'll draw what I want? Thank you very much?!

It was so cool to hate on bkdk back then, they really acted like it was some illegal ship. I also had people say stuff like I didn't understand how bullied people feel or abuse victims like seriously what 😑

I feel your annoyance to the point. My sentiments exactly.

Going to sound mean when I say this, but antis have gotten so infuriating that I honestly stopped caring. Like anything they do just to hate on the ship is ridiculously stupid.

I refuse to believe they do all of that because "Oh, I mean no harm, I just want to express how I feel". No, they have been doing it for far too long and they do it on purpose.

They mask wanting to bother shippers but "sharing their opinions".

Honestly, I wouldn't even call it a compliment because a compliment is meant to be genuine. If antis are being genuine about an art style being cool to them, they wouldn't follow up with some insult.

Now antis want to pull the "It makes no sense to ship them" card. Who cares about it making sense? You know what doesn't make sense to me?

If antis, those that ship Izuku and Ochako, want to scream about them being "canon" (I say more implied than canon honestly) then why talk about BakuDeku at all? Do you secretly ship BakuDeku and just want to deny it, resist it like "oh, no I mustn't! I shall not"?

Do you have just want to follow the crowd of haters? "I want to hate, too, yay!"

Do you just have a thing for "following rules" and try to apply it to anything? Because then why only single out BakuDeku? Why not other ships?

I don't know about them, but when I hate a ship I don't talk about it.

Antis be screaming "I see BakuDeku everywhere I can't escape it", but I had a totally different experience because when I first got into MHA and as the anime and manga went on, I didn't see BakuDeku content like that because I wasn't exposing myself to it. When I did cross the ship, my reaction wasn't to harass the shipper. Just shrugged and moved on.

So antis have no excuse at all for their shit actions. If you hate the ship, hate it.

Is like they want a cookie or something... "I'm a BakuDeku hater, I want a sticker!" That's what they look like to me.

His big victory here is handed to him. And it's odd how no one talks about Izu. "Duh izu is not the center of the universe" ok, fair. He isn't. But Izu is the reason for why overhaul is defeated and shig managed to get revenge (it's not for Magne, it's for his ego) here where I find odd....

They didnt saw Izu fighting a overhaul as if is a boss fight? No one saw shit? And even if there a valid excuse as "oh they didn't saw the fight bc X" ok fine....and the rest?

Ochako was there, she saw...and what Izu get is.... nothing!

Look not saying Ochako owns him anything. She doesn't. And the tiring idea "izu gets no bitches" is annoying. Making girls date Izu wouldn't change a damn thing ...but is too much to imagine after such boss fight ...his "friends" would be more appreciate of him?

What makes me go 😬 is how Iida looked down on Izu and called him criminal.

But what Izu got after is nothing.

We had nigheye dying and still holding on his beliefs. Am did nothing.

Mirio does nothing bc he doesn't know and never will.

And again, heroes should work to help and not to get fame but why the whole shit "hero can't get fame" applies only to Izu...when all the others heroes do get fame and still do their jobs ?

Back to the image. Overhaul was defeated by Izu and shig got his revenge (for his ego) and that's it....we lost a great villain for absolutely nothing.

And Shig does nothing to this.

Shiga doesn't even mention Izu's fight

He is a husk

Izu is underveloped and underappreciated to insane degree.

And all of that...for absolutely nothing.

The overhaul arc had some solid ideas but I do wish that the execution was better.

The arc is supposed to be a big first step for both izuku and shigaraki. There is clear symbolism of this. This is the first dark and proper arc for mha.

The overhaul arc is also the first arc where there is a clear loss for the heroes. In the end we see two hero deaths in this arc and the fact that they weren't able to successfully capture and stop the villains. The arc also seemed like it would end with them NOT being able to save Eri which would of been a worse loss for them.

This is all symbolic as we see all mights retirement and reign of peace end and an era of uncertainty and imbalance begins. We see straight from the beginning how this is negatively effecting the heroes.

Izuku is urged to step up to his role to use the image that he created for himself in the sports festival and develop it even further. We see Izuku's heroism and what he stands for up close in this arc and it's futher emphasised as its contrasted by mirio's own heroism.

Izuku and mirio are supposed to be contrasts in this arc.

Overhaul and shigaraki are also supposed to be contrasts in this arc.

Izuku and shigaraki are also supposed to be contrasts but these are contrasts that don't heavily interact this arc. I actually don't mind them not having major interactions in this arc but I do think there needed to be minor ones at least shigaraki and izuku acknowledging one another in this arc.

This can be done with izuku making small connections between eri and shigaraki. This can also be done with shigaraki acknowledging izuku's strengths and maybe thinking of recruiting izuku onto his ranks.

Izuku actually does receive some acknowledgement in this arc of how smooth his take down of overhaul is and this is done by nejire. However, the way izuku seems to receive rewards and praise within the series seems idk lacking and somewhat hidden (while yes this is supposed to be a point) I do think that a lot of his efforts usually go unnoticed specifically by those close to him.

Ultimately the arc fails in properly convincing me that both izuku and shigaraki are

1) worthy of their positions

2) that they have outgrown their foils and have started to become the new good and evil

Now moving onto the second point, the house arrest issue is a weird case.

After all of the development iida went through in the hosu arc you would think it would properly effect him as intended so it's incredibly annoying to have iida point fingers at izuku and label him a criminal.

What's even weirder is that no one not even izuku objected to the house arrest. I assume that house arrest will be a big mark on ones record so someone like izuku should of protested it since he only started to fight in the name of self defense and even went to actually ack bakugo's emotions and allowing him to take them out on him which he didn't need to do and he shouldn't of done that.

It's incredibly weird that iida and ochako who are aware of bakugo's aggressive and outright bullying towards midoriya whether that be name calling or aggression let this slide without a comment and without fighting for him once they find out what happens.

The reason that they look like such bad friends is because of a multitude of things like:

Lack of screentime between them and izuku

The way their behaviour magically changes towards bakugo

The lack of give there is in the friendship which also falls to the first point

You gotta do what you gotta do! It's hard for me to find Rody art or fics that aren't horrendously out of character (STOP making Rody a fuckboy PLEASE-😭🙏). So at some point I stop looking. Honestly that's why I like your Rody art so much! It feels so him and not out of character in the slightest.

💥 speaking of the anime, i’m sad they didn’t adapt one of my favourite panels from 360, where bakugou (or shiggy? it’s never really stated, but tbh i’ve always kinda assumed it’s shiggy imagining it LOL, maybe they both are? a joint moment of horror/delight where everyone knows exactly what’s about to happen 🥹) are imagining bakugou being torn apart by shiggy’s gross giant maggot fingers sdlkjlsdjflksdjf. i mean, i get why bones didn’t adapt it (bc they’re cheapskates and and also bc it is a show for children LMFAOOOO) but it’s a really cool example of how hard hori’s art can go, and also what im chalking up as his secret wish to write a horror story lmaoooo.

🪱🧵 i am biting my nails the closer we get to the end of the manga. chapter 428 was fun—bakugou and todoroki hiding behind iida as iida gently berates their newfound fangirls was so cute, lmao. also the revelation that edgeshot is slowly… regenerating? is….. interesting. i’m disappointed that hori didn’t kill him for a couple of reasons: the first one is my most selfish, and it’s bc i planned on edgeshot being dead for my halloween fic lmfao, now i gotta rework that whole angle. 💀😪 but the second reason is more pressing and that’s bc hori is a COWARD who NEVER kills off ANYONE that has INTERESTING CONSEQUENCES. and also bc he only likes killing off girls 💀 (we’ll circle back to this point). idk, i mean, for as much as i act like the grim reaper and whinge about mha not being depressing enough (lmao), the story that hori’s been writing has always been like, pretty easy to understand. hope connection blah blah blah (i say that lovingly).

for all my whinging i do like bnha lmao. i whinge because i like it, and tbh i probably wouldn’t change a thing of it. 🥺 all the frustrating gaps—like those perceived consequences i keep getting worked up over the lack of—are what makes it fun to write and read fic for. 🥹 and it’s been fun watching the characters change!!! i was in a bookstore, yesterday, picking up a copy of volume 38 and the girl at the counter and i started talking about the series—the pros and cons of binging it vs keeping up weekly, the change in bakugou’s character and how reading over fics with him and his older characterisation can be kinda hard, now. how scary it was that it’s coming to an end!!! she and i have talked before—when i was buying volume 36 lmao—about whether bakugou could be canonically read as queer vs asexual, and like, idk any other series that has such a mainstream reach that you could have these outside conversations with other people in your day to day, outside of a twitter or tumblr sphere! that’s the power of my hero. and im glad to be here for the ride. and no matter how it ends, it’ll be fun, and worth it. 🥹

eye symbolism?? idk man its late and i have thoughts (this is about bakugou btw)

so in mha's artstyle the child characters are drawn with big eyes (which is not unheard of in anime and manga) and i got to thinking that this probably symbolizes some sort of childhood innocence (being kids and all)

so bakugou, has innocence in these flashbacks right? hes just a kid after all (his eyes are a touch smaller and more angular which is either just a stylistic choice or something ill dig real deep into at some point idk im just trying to crank these words out before i go to bed)

but obviously the big-eyed look is not on bakugou for very long as if we look at him nowadays his eyes appear to have shrunk just a tad

I just saw a short video on YouTube by some dude named classman d, he was talking about Undead Unluck and it annoyed the hell out of me that he had an issue with the plot and dropped the series, but the plot he described was LITERALLY ONLY WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FIRST TWO EPISODES!! I know that not that many people can get behind the first few chapters or episodes of Undead Unluck, but it's so annoying that people will give Undead Unluck so much shit for its rough beginning and then drop it but are totally fine with something like the first chapter/episode of Dandadan (no hate towards Dandadan though...!) It literally drives me insane that people will say that if something isn't good/amazing from the very beginning and they drop it immediately, but it seems like in recent memory, there are a lot of stories that start off amazing and then seem to end in the most lackluster way possible for a lot of people (i.e.: JJK, MHA, AOT.)

I don't know man, I just want more people read/watch Undead Unluck and give it a freaking chance instead writing it off just for its beginning alone!! (Sorry if I come off sounding super pissed about this, I just really like Undead Unluck wish that it was more popular and got the respect that it truly deserves.)

The unfortunate truth is that some things just lack mass appeal. The average viewer doesn't really view anime/manga or really any artistic medium as "art," they view it as "entertainment," which is a valid perspective, but one that doesn't tend to align with things like narrative quality

Most viewers aren't engaging with the themes or dissecting the story beats to get a full understanding of the text, they're looking for a gratifying way to kill half an hour

Dandadan's overall animation style is way more flashy than Undead Unluck's slower, more atmospheric feel, so I imagine it's easier to get caught up in the energy of it and forgive or even ignore "shortcomings" in the narrative, while UU doesn't have a lot to distract from them

I'm sure there's a ton more nuance to it than that, but the main point is that you just can't expect everyone to like what you like for the same reasons you like it. Other people aren't looking for the same experience that you are, and even if they are, they won't necessarily get it from the same place

The best we can do is be grateful that we're getting to revel in such a great story and that our lives are being enriched for it. If it catches on later, maybe by getting a really good season 2, that would be fantastic, but we can't let other people's lack of appreciation hinder our own

I don't want to sound like a tinfoil-hat theorist, but it's very possible those leaks are fake. I lost the links to them, but I saw a few Twitter threads pointing out discrepancies in the chapter's portrayal of Class A that are odd for Horikoshi to make. Off the top of my head, I think Jirou's ear was completely normal when she should have an injury, one of Deku's forehead scars is missing, and Uraraka uses all five fingers when holding objects even though she always lifts one finger in canon to avoid floating anything. Additionally, the hiragana used allegedly doesn't align with the English translations we've been getting (people are also claiming the Japanese looks amateurly written), and the font used is different than the font Horikoshi normally uses/standard fonts for manga. Also, the leaks are incredibly high-quality, significantly more than any BNHA leaks we've seen (even for the 430 leaks). It's a crisp digital scan, whereas most are washed out and have distortions that indicate they were scanned directly from a physical copy. I really don't know. It's very possible this is real. Maybe Jirou got prosthetics. Maybe the scars were there, just subtle, or the tight deadline made Horikoshi sloppy (iirc, the JP release is in a few days). Maybe Uraraka's Quirk control improved more and she can choose when her Quirk activates now. Maybe Horikoshi truly messed up and tainted his ending. But I'm waiting for the official release before I trust anything I see. With the rise in AI, I'm not discounting the fact that someone might have used it to imitate Horikoshi's style, so I'm holding onto hope that Horikoshi kept his vision for the series in mind when making the bonus chapter.

I'm actually at my bargaining phase rn and now that I've seen more of the pics, I am getting an itch that SOME of the art is off.

We did get an incident just recently of a japanese bookstore using AI for promotional MHA material that was unsanctioned and promptly shut down.

And even before that, during the ending leaks there were people posting fake pages claiming to be canon.

There was also an incident with a japanese fanartist having a very similar art style to MHA which dudebros were claiming to be canon as well.

I'm just torn rn cause the usual leakers never translated those fake/misleading pages before but they're translating these leaks now??

Anyways it doesn't change that some of the pages art still feels OFF??😭😭

i'm REALLY into the way the dread wolf (folklore version. lol) is depicted in the dragon age concept art / solas's frescoes. this giant nightmare creature with too many eyes, not quite purely lupine, with these super fluid lines that give me the feeling of seph's shadows! i do think the eyes would be purely red rather than either red or blue KSDHUISD but. yeah it's sexy as hell. in particular i really like the way they depict the many eyes look, because a lot of the time the way it's depicted can trigger my trypophobia real bad so this is a good insp to lean into.

adding to the silhouette, one of the biggest inspos for her MHA verse costume was the nightwalker from dnd (I SWEAR I DIDNT MAKE THAT HER HERO NAME KNOWING THAT THESE EXISTED. MY PARTNER POINTED THEM OUT AND I WAS LIKE OMFG) but i love the look of the horns and the way shadow is wisping off of it — might experiment with adding horns to the look

I'm slowly starting to hate shounen bc if it's good it runs for a long time and if it runs for a long time it inevitably escalates to the point where it's no longer what you initially liked. Maybe you end up liking this new thing too but it's never actually what you initially fell in love with. OG Naruto was fucking cool, the Jutsu's could be pretty powerful and awesome but took time and the vast majority of combat was based on cunning and skill. Later that shit got so powercrept that the show basically became ninja flavored DBZ. Snake thing with Bleach, same thing with HxH it's all the fucking same.

Like, BNHA/MHA? Fuck, man, All Might giving a literal 101% of what he's supposed to be able to physically achieve, literally running his muscles at more than their maximum capacity, slowly killing himself in the process in order to do what's right was great. It meant something. Aaaand Deku's throwing 1000% powered Smashes. Okay. Sure. Numbers are all fake anyway.

It doesn't matter if the story can explain it and make it consistent, I don't fucking care about the lore of why he can do that, my point is that this shit isn't what I signed up for. And eventually the writers get so lost in all the powerscaling that they can't even actually finish the story the way they want to because everything got so escalated that the original idea doesn't even work any more. "This is how I became the greatest hero ever" turns into an ending where (SPOILERS) Deku actually loses his powers, becomes Quirkless again and quits being a hero so he can take on the noble and honorable job of... A highschool teacher. Bc the powerscaling went so out of whack that the story changed fundamentally, that the characters changed so drastically that the initial end envisioned for them no longer made sense.

I just. Really hate this ceaseless escalation. Of the stakes, of the powers, of fucking everything. Again and again and again cool ideas get turned into something barely recognizable, if even that, and if you go examine ANYTHING with even a smidge of attention you'll STILL find plot holes, Deus ex machina moments and contrivances that would make Rings of Power blush. Hell, some shounen series that start out amazing eventually become basically Contrivance Generators where the author has to constantly course correct the story because the industry demands shounen to be so fucking stupidly structured that people can't even engage with their passion like they want, can't tell the story they want.

If I had a genie first thing I'd wish for is for you bastards to go bankrupt and for every issue of Shounen Jump to be swallowed by an Elder God that feeds on cursed artifacts, because every issue HAS to be cursed with how much crunch time artists spend spilling their blood sweat and tears to fulfil your stinking quotas just so the story they wanna tell can get out, only for your shitty business model to force them to change the story into something they themselves may not even recognize. Weekly Shounen Jump is an affront to art and should be classified as the byproduct of crimes against humanity. Shinichi Hirono should stand down from the position of CEO and Kermit sudoku on live TV. In fact, don't give him the honor, instead he should be given the lethal injection or whatever else the Japanese use (they still have the death penalty over there and unlike in America your due date CAN arrive before any court appeal hearing)

1, i find it funny that Caleb said lickitung than Pikachu since that… totally doesn’t make sense nor was why Twice suggested the name. IDK IM A POKÉMON NERD AND AN MHA FAN SO I JUST FIND IT A LITTLE SILLY.

Like I think Horikoshi chose Pikachu bc it’s the most recognizable Pokémon, along with Himiko’s “chu-chu” noises she makes when she drinks blood ofc, but it was also probably suggested bc… Pikachu has the same blushies that Ochako has…

Not to mention the fact that Pikachu is also representative of Toga’s colors, those of course being red and yellow.

Lickitung makes no sense other than the fact that it paralyzes people/Pokémon by licking them and making them uncomfortable. It’s such a… random gen 1 Pokémon idfk. I can see WHY he chose it, because lickitung is supposed to be a friendly Pokémon that accidentally makes people uncomfortable, but I think Pikachu being said instead just makes far more sense; Pikachu is supposed to be a cute Pokémon. It’s origins in gen 1 were, “I want you to make the cutest Pokémon you can” and the artist Atsuko Nisida had to go through 3-5 iterations of pixel art (bc they would make the pixelated version for the game first AND THEN draw the Pokémon from that) before finally settling on what people call “fat Pikachu” which looked like this

Lickitung works ig by being a Pokémon that ultimately is harmless to people but just accidentally freaks people out and makes them off-put by them, but Pikachu fits much better in a chapter where Ochako calls Himiko’s smile, something we’re supposed to see as creepy, perfect/pretty/beautiful. Comparing her and her cuteness to something like Pikachu just seems like something twice would do anything bc he’s a sweetie like that.

ALSO ANOTHER THING FOR PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT POKÉMON: reguri is I think the most popular ship? That might be beat by Selena/ash and misty/ash, but regardless it’s super popular and also is EXTREMELY SIMILAR to bkdk.

This does depend on which version of them you’re talking about, but personally when I read pokespe (the most popular official Pokémon manga, there’s others but that’s just the most well known one) I always thought bkdk were so similar to red/blue to the point it was uncanny. At the time I thought “eh that’s just gay rival tropes there’s tons of other characters in other anime/manga/tv that are similar to them too” but after the mention OF Pikachu and Toga’s purposeful similarities I do wonder if horikoshi was a Pokémon fan in the 90’s during his childhood. That wouldn’t surprise me seeing as the games were such a booming success in Japan (literally it’s the most sold Pokémon games ever nothing has beat it since), so it would make sense if horikoshi was a secret Pokémon fan.

I mean, blues hair is even similar to bakugous but idk, maybe it’s a stretch.

They’re not childhood friends in pokespe, but they are childhood friends in the games, blue bullying him as they got older and pushing red away, red goes and has an emo arc on mount silver by himself without telling anyone, eventually comes down from that mountain in black and white 2 where red and blue are starting to be friends again, and I don’t think they’re seen again until sun and moon where they’re on vacation together in alola. There’s other outside game content that has just… progressively gotten more gay.

AGAIN, IM NOT SURE IF HORIKOSHI HAS READ THE POKESPE MANGA OR IF HE PUT THIS MUCH THOUGHT INTO IT! However I WILL say that if you enjoy bkdk you will probably enjoy reguri and the pokespe manga, especially since it has a more interesting plot than the anime or games, along with being less corny. It’s a lot more… I don’t wanna say graphic but honest? It wasn’t really made in mind that it would be targeted overseas like all the other Pokémon stuff, so it’s just more honest about environmental issues and pet abuse and things like that. Red and blues character arcs and friendship, along with Leaf’s character arc is very interesting just by itself, highly recommend.

MOVING ON… my Pokémon nerdiness aside, I love Himiko’s defiance to conform to hero society especially as a villain. Will she go against this vow because she sees herself as a full fledged villain? I wasn’t really sure.

She didn’t, which is great, but I also think those themes of pity and feeling like Ochako is still looking down on her… remind me exactly of Katsuki.

I also find this page and what toga says quite interesting.

Saying that she KNEW ochako was sad too, that’s a VERY interesting observation to make when thinking of someone you “hate”.

And I like the distinction that Ochako wasn’t afraid of Toga because of her smile being creepy, or that she was trying to harm her or tsu, but because she couldn’t understand why she was smiling during a fight.

ALSO THIS? THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT AN IZU//OCHA MOMENT… let me explain.

It’s a couple of things: Ochako is not explicitly saying how she wishes she could talk about her love with Izuku, instead it seems to be more framed as talking ABOUT Izuku.

He’s not even looking at her, and she’s not looking at him; no, instead Ochako and Himiko are looking at each other, and talking about the importance to talk about your feelings openly, how she admires that quality to Himiko.

In a way this is Ochako saying “No, don’t become like him, this is why I admire you. That trait makes you admirable, it’s a trait I love in you.”

And lastly, that marriage proposal. Is it REALLY a marriage proposal? How romantic or platonic is this this scene?

Well, I went back and read chapter 348 to find out, and a little detail disregarded, not only by me but everyone else, was the line, “If you ask me, being a couple means being one and the same. Makes sense right? Nothing else… would fulfill my desires.”

And then ochako in 393, purposely bearing her feelings to Himiko and offering her blood to her? Even with this knowledge? The knowledge that Himiko would see this as a confession? Fucking crazy.

For all her flaws, I can perfectly picture why Ochako would prefer someone who sees romance like she does, openly unapologetic about her feelings like she is, over someone who can’t even see a teenage girls confession as an actual confession of love. Way to be selfish Izuku.

Seven Days to Fall in Love ends tonight! I have it done and working on edits to post it and bring that quick fic to an end. I feel the ending is a touch rushed, but I'm also running out of steam on it, so giving it an ending I feel wraps everything up nicely c: Malevolence of love is 50% done for next chapter. Going to be working on this one to finish it out before the end of September! I have it planned out, just need to get it written. I want to give it some love and bring it to its angsty conclusion 83

Can't Help a Cuddle/Jealous is a Bad Friend BOTH are nearly done and I'm very happy with how they both are coming out! There is some big emotional feels in both that I'm happy with how they played out and just the scenes in general <3 I hope they meet the expectations of all the suggestions given!

Cuddle is a bit harder as I got over twenty suggestions to weave into a coherent narrative, but think I did it justice!

Hello, can I ask why do you think there are so many BL ships from BNHA and JJK? Do you also have fav ships from those two series?

I don't mean any negative things to any fan fics writers or fan art artist (thanks so much every one for sharing your hard works in the fandom).

But like, I'm a fan of both series for years now, and I saw them mostly as just platonic (bakudeku, tododeku, kiribaku, satosugu, itafushi, etc). Now, I'm not anti mlm or wlw because I love BL and GL media (manga, manhwa, books, tv series, etc), but I'm kinda hard to enter into shipping. Do you think I'm weird? Or maybe I'm slow in understanding the romantic subtext in those scenes from both series?

My take on it I guess is that people just love shipping characters together. Fandoms low-key thrive on shipping most of the time and especially when it comes to rareships. In my opinion any legal ship can work depending on how someone writes the story so there's that.

Iam not a huge shipper myself and if I do ship stuff I tend to be a multishipper prefering to enjoy multiple amount of contents that people make. MHA has horribly written ships point blank. Sure togaocha could of worked but it doesn't the same with BKDK. Any ships in MHA that were introduced as possibilities also lack any sort of development. This obviously doesn't stop people from shipping and developing their own ships (as they rightfully should) but canon wise there isn't much going for MHA

When it comes to Jujutsu kaisen akutami already acknowledged that he isn't that good at writing romance so he chooses not to excpet of already established ships like hakari x kirarka or tragic ships like mechamiwa. Even when it comes to that people do view stgs and itafushi as heavily romantically coded and I can see where theyre coming from as there is some heavy romantic subtexts.

Overall, Iam not much of a romantic shipper myself I just love platonic bonds and ships. For some reason I find that platonic ships and bonds are just better written and can connect with the audience a whole lot more easily and better compared to romance. Iam not much of a romance fan so I don't consume much of that side of media. Iam not sure if it's only me but stories centering around one ship get really boring for me whereas other stories that go out to critique stuff or explore ideas are more enjoyable.

I don't think MHA has any romantic subtexts however I definitely do see the Jujutsu kaisen romantic subtexts.

Writers usually give readers freedom to decide how they view things. Iam not much of a romance type of reader so I just like viewing a lot of things as platonic just because I think platonic relationships are overall stronger and better then romance ones

I completely agree and think it's unfair that the fandom continues to demand perfection from Hori; especially when 'perfection' can be a loosely coined term depending on what it is each of these whingers want to see before the series ends. I think that with all works of art, meaning (and in this instance, interractions between characters) are interpretted based on the individuals shaped life experiences. I read a post somewhere that perhaps the lack of filler episodes contributes to all this complaining, because we don't get to see the little side stories between such and such characters, or a more indepth delve into certain side characters backstories. But tbh you're damned if you do, you're damned if you dont. I remember how much shit Kishimoto copped for all the fillers, despite how much (arguable) richness and depth it provided for the relationships between characters. Even if it was just an extra silly little story.

Theres no real point to this message, just wanted to chime in with my 2c.

you’re so right though, because what would make MHA a “perfect” story? i whinge all the time about like, there being no real consequences, or Hori sliding past the emotional beats he sets up—but if there were serious, hurtful consequences (beyond the villains dying), and Hori did hit those beats, MHA on the whole would be a completely different story LMAO. Like—it’s just so fascinating! We don’t get like, “filler” chapters really, where we get to see more of the kids’ relationships with each other—but Hori then like, shoves them into other moments? like random panels. he mixes the kids up, shows them strewn about the dorms and the school in a variety of different groups. Kiri, Bakugou and Iida visiting Shouto in his room, for example, before Big Fight #102. Bakusquad and Dekusquad are fun fandom things, but Hori’s always like… taken great pains to show that Class-A is a clump, that intermingle among themselves. The fandom loves to bear down on Mineta—“mineta minrou is expelled from UA high school” and “shinsou hitoshi replaces mineta minrou” are the two first tags that auto suggest, for mineta, on ao3—but he’s very much apart of the crew!!! Like, I would argue that he seems to consider himself great mates with like, Deku lmao, at least!! I think if anything, Hori has been hamstringed by the weekly nature of the updates. He has so much to shove in, and a lot of stuff gets left out. And while the kids relationships to each other is like, one of the core tenants of MHA, I personally don’t believe Hori is the kind of writer that wants to give them a beach episode, lmao. 🥹 and i agree, i think that throws a lot of fans off!! people seem to really want like, MHA slice-of-life stuff but…. idk, it’s never been a story about that. 💀 it really is a case of damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don’t, tho. 💀💀 part of me is like, oh, this ending feels a little rushed… 🥺 but then the other part of me is like boy, pump out that last panel and run. 💀 LMAOOOO. idk idk idk. i really liked 429—this second-last chapter—because i thought it was sweet. 🥺 i have absolutely no guesses for the final chapter—for the end of this story. and tbh i kinda like it that way? it could be good, it could be bad. i personally hope that it leaves me feeling like it’s a “perfect” ending for right now—for wherever we leave Deku and the MHA world. That it gives them both—character and universe—space to breathe, and grow beyond the final panels. Like… leaving a friend’s house after a rowdy lunch, maybe? You’ve got other things to do, some errands, maybe someone else to meet, and your friends have shoo’d you away from the dishes but when you leave you can hear them laughing behind the door, with someone else who’s taken the tea towel to dry ‘em.
