There have been a lot of negative posts about how this season turned out bc of the rat grinders exclusively and everyone is entitled to their opinions on the season. But in light of it, I’m gonna throw out some positives about this season 💖

Sophomore year will always hold a special place in my heart because of the Fabian arc but Junior year might be my favorite fantasy high season overall. I loved learning about Ankarna and Cassandra. I thought I’d be bummed out not seeing some of my fave npcs but the downtime mechanic and the stress tokens added sO much. The Porter & Jace reveal was incredible. KRISTEN’S CAMPAIGN ARC!!! Fabian and Mazey!? K2 and all the blimey shenanigans 👏 Everything with Wanda Childa and Ruben and fig���s complicated women podcast was sooooo funny. I genuinely laughed harder this season than I have with any other d20 season I’ve seen.

I feel like with this season they really hit their stride with pacing too. It felt a lot more fluid with how we rolled into combat most of the time. I loved that first party of the year and seeing Adaine become the party wizard. After ep 18 it makes me love the party with the Oisin missing his shots so much more bc he got in that nasty little one liner later. I adored that the rat grinders were essentially a red herring to keep the bad kids looking elsewhere to take the heat off Porter and Jace a bit.

We didn’t see much from all of them, and we didn’t see nearly enough about Lucy, but I really loved the Rat grinders as in school rivals for the bad kids. Ruben was hands down my favorite but goddamn did I also love how much of a girlfailure Kip was. I loved seeing her rage out and I hope we get to see her really go nuts in the finale too. I really really warmed up to Mary Ann last episode with her tugging on Jace’s shirt and saying she didn’t feel good and then seeing her rage when her strawberry got destroyed. She’s so fascinating to meeee. I loved everything with Buddy and Kristen. I wish they had more scenes together. And while I’m talking about the Dawns, that entrance from Bobby Dawn as the new cleric teacher made my skin crawl in the best way. I loved Kristen calling him frumpy and sad on her teacher evaluation too- and holy shit Fig meeting Ankarna for the first time? Ankarna being the inspiration Fig needed to make music again too?

The incredible art from Cait May this season was hands down one of my FAVORITE d20 artist collabs ever. Just overall improved designs for everyone that just make so much more sense for their characters and art for new characters that made me adore them even more. Also holy shit the Porter maxi is genuinely my favorite mini that’s ever been featured on the show. I’m typically not into how the minis look in general, they always look a lil goofy to me but goddamn when they hit, they fuckin HIT.

And speaking of Porter, I really got endeared to him this season. Yeah he turned out evil and always has been a dick to gorgug and is definitely a shit teacher, but before the reveal I loved his training with Fig and Zara. One thing about Fantasy high is that I just love a lot of the teachers. My two faves this season being Terpsichore and Henry! They’re both so dedicated to their students and are such a specific type of teacher that you’ve definitely met before in real life. Like all my favorite math teachers back in school were so much like Henry and that made me love him even more.

Of course my #1 favorite thing about the world of Spyre is the religion aspect and how Brennan and Ally both approach it. That scene with Ally connecting with Yolanda and Lucy to allow them some comfort in the afterlife was so beautiful. Kristen’s talks with Bucky throughout the season were very touching and hit very close to home as someone that grew up in a religious household and doesn’t connect with the divinity I was raised on. Just- wow wow wow. I also really love that despite the breakup, Tracker and Kristen still have really interesting convos about divinity even if they don’t agree.

I loved seeing different dynamics in the bad kids too, I love the huge sibling energy that Fabian and Adaine have and the bond that Kristen and Fig have. I love how interwoven all the bad kids feel as a group. I love the little quirks that they all have, and I loved all the fandom posts about them like the sharing clothes posts and the one about how everyone lets Riz crawl on them to get better vantage points. I love Riz’s wall of text breaking down to gorgug about how much he appreciates him. Him calling gorgug a sweetie almost made me cry. I of course love all the parent/child moments this season. I loved the bad kids finally healing Lydia and seeing how happy it made Ragh. I LOVE Aelwyn and all her cats 🤧 I loved seeing Baron again and I loved how the bad kids got to the funhouse version of mordred through riz’s briefcase. I love seeing Adaine and Sandralynn bond. I loved finding out that Sandralynn and Sklonda go out for drinks and are friends. I just 💖 and goddamn, Ayda’s message to Fig and how Zara helped to surprise Fig with it. I love how Bill and Pok are such proud dads of their boys and I hope they’re doing some bonding over drinks in the after life.

And I cannot end this post without saying that I loved how cinematic this season felt too. It had INCREDIBLE imagery that you could easily visualize. Everyone at the table was in their element this time around from a role playing and a strategic standpoint. Everyone had their moment to shine and something important to do this season that fed back into the main plot. So thank you to Brennan and the intrepid heroes for giving us another killer season. After the season ended I was planning to finish Starstruck and Neverafter but I might just rewatch Junior year all over again just to get it out of my system.

Apollo and Jason in alternative fits for the modern mortal au + more fun facts about this au bc what am I if just an amalgamation of random ToA AU ideas!

For this pic: Jason just finished a game with the basketball team of his fancy private high school (they're called the centurions). Jason isn't really passionate about the sport, but Apollo insists they need to go out and celebrate his win.

As I've said before, Apollo is will they, won't they-ing with Admetus in a small apartment while trying to muscle his way through med school. It's extremely stressful, and Apollo is definitely still struggling with maintaining perfection and not seeming "ungrateful" or "lazy". Part of his journey in this AU is rebuilding his support system after going no contact, and maybe actually going to therapy at some point! And also dropping med school bc that's not what he wants to be doing with his life.

Apollo is actually a natural brunet, like his mother! Artemis is a brunet too, but her hair is just a bit darker, closer to their dads.

Apollo's vision is actually just as bad as Jason's, he just wears contacts instead of glasses.

Jason wants to go into urban planning or architecture, but he's absolutely terrified of telling anyone in the family. Apollo's the first and only person he's told.

Apollo's got a small indie band with some of the muses (Urania, Polyhymnia, Euterpe, and Terpsichore) and the rest of them are all study buddies! They stay up till 3am chugging monster and five hour energy like shots and speedrunning graduate papers.

Jason mainly hangs out with Reyna, Frank, Hazel, and Octavian. Leo and Piper are his childhood friends from when he used to live with his mother, but they fell out when he had to move in with Zeus.

Apollo sometimes has a hard time sleeping and other times can barely keep his head up. This is a lasting symptom of the severe concussion he got from his father, and it also left him with random moments of extreme vertigo and frequent headaches.

Other than Apollo and Thalia, Jason is closest with his cousin Percy! They love being jokingly competitive about everything, but Jason has always felt supported by Percy when the going gets tough. Still, Percy has his own life going on, son Jason has always felt bad about reaching out.

Meg comes into the picture as a kid Apollo found during one of those aforementioned late night study sessions. She was injured, but refused to let Apollo call for help. Obviously, Apollo is familiar with what's going on here, so he asks if he can treat her injuries. She reluctantly agrees, and eventually Apollo realizes that Meg's mom is his aunt, but Demeter didn't have custody. He gets Meg's phone number, and spends the next 6 months fighting to get her out of stepfather's custody and back with the family. The two of them get extremely close in the meantime, and bc of this Meg and Jason also interact a lot and get very close. However, in his fight to get Meg somewhere safe, Apollo is forced to reconnect with the family. Again, eventually Apollo will go to therapy, but I plan on making him go through the most stressful shit I can think of first.

Okay, so for my own fanfictions, most of which take place post-TOA and therefore post-Percy "claim your children" Jackson and Jason "honor minor gods" Grace, I made myself a spreadsheet of all the cabins I believe could plausibly be at Camp Half-Blood, and ended up with a whopping 270, and there's probably more dieties whom I couldn't find any information on, and some dieties whom I don't believe would have a cabin (ex. Kronos) (if you think I should add someone comment) and decided to paste it here, since I don't feel comfortable sharing my original spreadsheet. I did add the water dieties, even though their kids could also plausibly go to the underwater camp, but I've decided to give them the option of what camp they want. I also didn't copy their domains, but I have the list from my research, so you can ask if you'd like, I'll be glad to explain! Most of my research was from Theoi Project - Greek Mythology, and Brittanica, and probably some others I've since forgotten, so if you know any good Greek Mythology resourses and books, please share!

So that's my list. I don't really have a rhyme or reason for why each number is each, but I did clump together gods with similar domains because that's where they were easiest to find in my research... I honestly think kids of minor gods are very underused in TOA fics, and even in PJO and HOO to an extent. Jillie, my nine year old daughter of Gelus with a contageous laugh? One of my fave OCs.

As for Roman gods and goddess, I'm not as knowledgable, but hopefully I'll make a spreadsheet for plausable godly parents, though unlike CHB it doesn't need to be organized as there's just Cohorts. I don't write Camp Jupiter fics all that often, but it'll be a good resource to have if I choose to.

🧵 Morgan 🧵 Welsh origin, meaning “sea-born” or “circling sea.” I don’t know where Morgan’s name came from insofar as choice--he just sort of popped into my head one day and I landed on a random name. I did have a friend in high school named Morgan who was a stage manager in our drama department, but my Morgan isn’t based on her in the slightest. 

🐶 Zachary 🐶 Hebrew origin, meaning “God remembers.” Again, just another name that I liked the syllabic count and sound of. Though the meaning now that I look at it isn’t too off course for his character 👀

🎭 Ariel 🎭 Hebrew origin, meaning “lion of God.” Now this one was chosen intentionally, for the Shakespeare’s Ariel in The Tempest--the beginning of choosing theatrical names for a theater wip. That was the first time I came across Ariel as a masculine name; Ariel was actually male in conception, but they’ve since evolved into a nonbinary person. 

🍸 Travis 🍸 French origin, meaning “to cross” or “toll collector,” lmao. Travis came about randomly--I wanted one that wouldn’t sound too out of place in the vintage city setting he appears in.

💐 Seonghwa 💐 Korean origin, meaning “to be a star.” I didn’t know this one and it’s actually pretty fitting! Seonghwa is actually named after his faceclaim (the singular one I have in all of TGGT), who happens to be a kpop artist in Ateez, whose debut song Treasure was instrumental in the early inspiration of TGGT. 

💋 Christina 💋 Latin origin, meaning “a follower of Christ.” Christina was named after Christine Daae from The Phantom of the Opera, though their personalities are not similar in the slightest.  

🧶 Cashmere 🧶 English origin, a soft wool from the Kashmir goat. I co-opted Cashmere for use as a proper noun because I’m a ho for that, and I liked the idea of a child working in the costume department with a textile-related name. 

👑 Pippen 👑 Germanic origin, meaning “father.” Pippen is named after the musical Pippin, which I know absolutely nothing about but like the name of. He’s the defacto authority of the theater kids, so that meaning is pretty interesting. 

💤 Winnie 💤 Welsh origin, short for Winifred, meaning “fair one” or “smooth, soft, happiness,” “blessed peacemaking.” There’s a bunch it looks like. Winnie is my sweet baby girl, another vintage sounding name I liked for the time period. 

💪 Percival 💪 French and Welsh origins, meaning “pierce the vale.” Now, Percival is named entirely after a guy I used to work with a few years ago, and based off him in appearance too. I rarely base characters off of people I’ve known irl, but for some reason he stuck. Fantastic eyebrows, deep voice, hulking Hispanic guy. Some people called him Percy. 

💃 Temperpina 💃So.... I’m a dumbass it looks like..... I think I was going for Terpsichore, the Greek muse of dance and dramatic chorus. AS IT TURNS OUT, somehow I threw it into a brain blender and ended up with Temperpina instead, which is! not! a name!! whatever!!! The intent to carry on a theatrical theme was continued!!

🎶 Lottie 🎶 French origin, meaning “little and womanly.” Back on track here! Lottie was also named after Christine Daae (lmaooo), specifically her nickname Little Lottie. 

🩰 Yeseul 🩰 Korean origin, meaning “dew” or “pretty, lovely.” Yeseul is also inspired by a little girl actual real life Seonghwa interacted with once (it’s very precious), and I fell in love with the sound of it. In TGGT, Yeseul is his younger cousin.

Here is my reasons 4 allv them yay 😇

Athena: hes like v good at learning dance and like teaching others how to do it too. also hes like kind of a wise guy the way hes always giving advice n things on his lives (or at least i see lots of it). athena kids scents are also like weaker than others i think so it works. he kind of has the serious vibe i imagine athena kids having too

Apollo: hes mr ceo of dance and is like known as the ideal athletic young guy. lino is also mr ceo of dance and like im p sure hes pretty athletic maybe??

Demeter: linos like pretty into nature and like cooking i think and like this is more of a hc reason but i have demeter as like one of the stronger / more athletic / sporty cabins which goes like well with linos dance and atheletic stuff mentioned b4. Srry again another hc thing but like demeter kids usually bein like “mom friends” or bein good working w others n helping them goes w his personality i think. And hes like the designated mom of the group now. also i think i remember annabeth saying something about demeter kids having weaker scents but idk

Terpsichore: patron of dancing. linos the main dancer. but also no scent strength is mentioned outside of the olympians kids (usually?) having stronger ones than those of the minor gods kids so im not sure if thisd like mess things up 4 him in this like. au i guess if muse children actually have like monsters demigod detectors going off crazy

Cora was being very nice. Like, super nice. Which, in Gabriella's experience, was hard to find among dance instructors. There had been a few when she was younger, but as she grew up and stepped into those advanced classes or met with choreographers for competitions or shows, man alive those people could really just stomp on you with the heel of their shoes without a second thought. They never seemed to have time to talk, they were always taking digs at people's appearances, and never seemed to know how to hand out a compliment, it was always insults or critique.

It had given her thick skin, sure, but often had her wondering why she had decided to make dancing her personality as a kid.

Here, feeling the difference in the beat of the music through the soles of her feet and in the hollow of her chest, and seeing Cora trying to get her to loosen up and feel more comfortable, was a very nice reminder as to why. Because dancing was a lot of things, but it was also fun when she let it be. It didn't have to be doom and gloom all the time.

One corner of her mouth curled up in the beginnings of a smile as she nodded, thinking she understood what Cora was trying to get her to do here. She copied the motions of shaking out her own limbs, letting the beat of the music sink in. Then she started to move freely, letting the rhythm and her experience take over.

Cora knew it would be clunky. But learning a new routine always was! Of course everyone wanted to be able to pick up new choreography with a click of their fingers. It was the same with every hobby - no one wanted to be bad at something, they only wanted to be perfect at it. But the only way to get good was to practice, and practising was exactly what they were going to do. And it was why Cora had put out the offer of one on one or small group classes in the first place; so that people could get the debilitating ordeal of being kind of bad at something out of the way, in private, before having to perform in front of other people.

Positivity was key. She didn't want Gabriella to get into a rut, bogging herself down, so she reached out, touching her arm lightly. "It's okay," She reassured her, giving her two thumbs up. "You're doing good."

She paused, and then said, "Forget the choreo." She didn't know what forget was in BSL, so she just made a gesture with her hands like throwing something away, and hoped she hadn't accidentally signed a curse word. "Let's loosen up."

She went back to the stereo and started playing one of the songs for her zumba class, turning up the bass so that it was starting to reverbreate in her ribs a bit. It was uptempo but not too quick; Cora spun round, facing Gabriella again, and began to shake out her limbs, letting the music guide her as she swayed to it, focusing on the beat that Gabriella would feel rather than the melody.

"Get the rhythm. Then close your eyes, and just move. Okay?"

I see your "grand daughter of Hades and Persephone" and raise you, the Alghul's are blessed by the chthonic goddess/nymph Melinöe. She's the goddess of madness, ghosts, and nightmares and is possibly the daughter of Hades and Persephone herself. It's also possible that she an epithet of Hecate (goddess of magic and necromancy).

And yeah, Dionysus is such an interesting being in the myths with so many different variations that simply weren't done justice in the books. He's a god of wine, sure, but he's also the god of madness and rebirth. He's half of the god Pan who is in turn half of Hermes. He's both one of the youngest and oldest gods. Depending on where your looking he could be a completely different character.

I am obsessed with chthonic gods and minor deities if you couldn't tell.

Also yeah I can see why Cass as a child of Nyx wouldn't be everyone's thing. Honestly her as a daughter of Terpsichore (Greek muse of lyric poetry and dance) is really growing on me.

Now that I think about it, Dick could be a child of a muse too. I don't know if they canonically have any kids, but I will eventually read the wiki and get back to you.

Most of the reason, besides the obvious, for why I chose Nemesis for Jason is because of the fact that I firmly believe that Jason would have joined the Titan army. That's also why I want him to be the child of a minor god, it gives him even more incentive and it would keep with the "bio mom betrays him" aspect. Ethan Nakamura (my beloved) was the lieutenant to Luke and the canon son of Nemesis. She ripped out his eye when she recruited him for the TA. We don't know a whole lot about their powers (the wiki was very interesting though) but her kids at least seem to be able to sense people's week spots or something like that. Ethan almost stabbed Percy in his Achilles Heel leading to Annabeth getting stabbed when she used her body to shield him. It's just a really cool power that I like for Jay. I can see your reason for preferring her as Bruce's parent though.

Some things I remembered last night; I think Joker is a child of Eris (goddess of strife) and the deified mortals thing slapped me in the face with the vision of Constantine as the son of Medea (badass sorceress who killed her husband with the help of Hera and then fucked off to Olympus (or possibly Circe's island). I have many thoughts about this, head full.

I agree. Dionysus’ characterization is so fluid, and the books really just watered him down (and no mention of his relation to Pan or Hermes, iirc).

Her as the daughter of Terpischore is definitely my choice now. (I do see what you mean with Nyx though.)

Your reasoning has me considering Nemesis as Jason’s mother more seriously now ngl. And especially with Jason just taking Ethan’s place, to an extent.

kjfkjhh Thank you!! I’m happy to hear that ahaha Honestly I don’t entirely know where to begin with it..I suppose I could put some art on Ao3 and then just awkwardly write along with it? Idk...hmm maybe this is how I can get back into writing in the fandom - No promises!!

101 Familiars AU is dlkfjg well it was basically born from realizing how similar character design was Strickler was to Roger in the 101 Dalmatians film so I just did screenshot redraws from the animated film with ToA characters haha with the premise that instead of a bunch of Dalmatians Strickler and Barbara open up an orphanage. Barbara’s son is still Jim, and Strickler in this scenario has adopted Toby.  

The incomplete ‘cast’ as it were:

Roger: Walter Strickler Anita: Barbara Lake Pongo: NOT a pet but actual human adopted child Toby Strickler  Perdita: NOT a pet but actual human child Jim Lake Cruella de Vil: Morgana le Fay 

There’s like, a small amount of magic carried over from the original show...but not too much? It’s not a well thought out AU, like I said I sort of thought of it for the premise of screenshot redraws but I always look back on it fondly. 

I’m specifically fond of the mental image of Strickler adopting Toby, they could have bonded over so much in the show if given the chance for character exploration in the show. And Toby deserves love dang it! So much of Toby’s in show situations I would have LOVED to have had explored more. 

(To list a few, though not limited to: What was pretending to be Jim like? How did that affect his relationship to Barbara?  How would Toby and Claire’s friendship grow? What do they bond over? Some of these I already plan to explore in Terpsichore! ) 

Or maybe I’m looking too into it...idk I saw a magician’s hat in Toby’s bedroom on screen, and how Toby thought to bring Strickler a burrito in S3 and have been thinking ever since. 

I’m also just a sucker for Surrogate parental situations and Found Family. 

ANYWAYS

If I had to make an outline for a 101 Familiars AU fic I could easily turn it into a short easy fic. Maybe a little predictable.. 

Morgana kidnaps Jim and Toby (something something illegal child labor). Jim and Toby find themselves with a lot of other kidnapped kids. Barbara and Walter report to the police, and because ACAB - decide to take the law into their own hands and track down Jim and Toby.  Barbara and Walter find out about illegal activity.  Shenanigans and Saving Kids Foster Home / Orphanage happy ending. 

Whose to say if I’ll ever write it ldkfg but it’s certainly filed under favorite daydreams in my head haha

another tragedy - Anxiety is a bastard, it gives a lot of bad thoughts but sometimes there is a little bit of truth buried beneath it all and it whispers all about how you can keeping doing the wrong things for the right reasons. Season 2.

i will always hold you close (but i will learn to let you go) - Sometimes the hardest thing you can do is learning when to let go. Sometimes however, even when you want to they hold back even tighter. Season 2.

your eyes look like coming home - Toby has been the witness from the start of just how close Jim has been to death multiple times over and how Jim he is about the whole thing. It scares him how this time might be it, again and again. Season 2.

The Collected Tellings of Shigir and Other Changeling Folktales - I don’t actually know which category to put this under so I’m going the to heck with it route instead. Does exactly what it says on the tin for your Changeling lore needs, some of which will be off-hand mentioned or outright appear during the fantastic Terpsichore - The Comedy of the Danse Macabre - ACT I.

all that dazzling dawn has put asunder - The sequel to in my sleep i dreamed of waking, this is filled with delightful fluff, internal panicking and the joys of trying to explain how you’re a not and how that does not change the fact Strickler is still a was. Being a changeling in these strange after times are difficult even before the other baggage involved but at least you're still here to start.

Two Pisces in Alto Mare - When in Rome as part of a study trip abroad, you meet the most curious people sometimes and  by fluke or nature you may even do so more than once.

Filling The Gaps - Possibly a bit of an unusual mention but! These are little pieces of Fallout that were going on while our eyes were following elsewhere and boy it can hurt.

Rehearsals and DvD Bonus Features - Another from the home of Terpsichore - The Comedy of the Danse Macabre - ACT I which is being listed here because it does have Stricklake in it. Some things don’t make the cut with writing fanfic, either because the plot wandered off, it doesn’t fit right or it’s some backstory you haven’t quite figured out where it can be naturally brought up yet and in this case they’ve found themselves a home. Be warned, one particular chapter is explicit and has been marked as such in warnings in the chapter summary.

Alternate Universes

(Un)Becoming - Not technically an AU in the conventional sense but I’m putting it under here anyway. It’s Unbecoming, as ever the road to hell is paved with good intentions but as Jim threw in the towel the storm that’s coming will not be stopped. However, what if others caught glimpses of a world that still had a human Trollhunter to defend it?

Steve the Kind - Steve became the Trollhunter but how the adventure unfolds differently than when Jim was at the helm might just surprise you. Very slow burn Steve and Jim that in a rather refreshing change doesn’t throw Claire under the bus for it to happen. Praise be.

31 Days in the Darklands - Strickmar that somehow kinda works?? It helps with Gunmar having the space to breathe outside of getting Morgana out and be more of his own character. Storywise, in order to rescue Jim from the Darklands Strickler broke a deal that would cost his own freedom and now has to somehow maintain a treaty between three very different factions all the while keeping his own neck intact. The intense distrust in changelings continues on to boot but hey, nobody said politics was easy.

Building Bridges - So Gunmar is distinctly of the more Eldritch variety with dream powers, the ability to easily see through lies for the true emotions and thoughts, Bular has the Insight as well to a lesser extent and everyone has somehow managed to hop onto Stricklander’s bandwagon of we must protect Jim Lake Jr. at all costs. Now the race is on as both sides try to sway the young Trollhunter to their way of thinking and the Trollmarket has no idea how dangerously badly they’re doing so far.

Lost Souls - A fic written in variable snapshots. Jim was kidnapped and changed by Merlin far earlier to be his Champion to ensure he did the “right thing” while Barbara in desperation to find her son falls into the hands of Morgana thus mother and son become enemies without even realising it.

Faithfully - Barbara died overseas and yet somehow Jim still managed to make his way back to Arcadia to become the next Trollhunter. This road is far harder for it as a seemingly homeless orphan though on the flipside he keeps on acquiring dads. Contains Trans Jim, timeline variable snapshots and I love it very much.

The Burning - There was a fire, it killed Barbara and Jim was thought dead as well. Nobody could have guessed the feral half changeling that is running around like a cryptid is the very much alive Jim.

Finding Daylight - Jim is a very low ranking changeling, terrified of Bular and his home amounts to little more than a spot in the woods. Things started to go pear shaped for him when he accidentally stumbled over Blinky and only more so when the amulet picks him after Kanjigar is felled. Tis not a kind world for a changeling child out there and he has nobody really to help watch his back until he stumbles on a potential maybe.
