Review quotes of Booboo Stewart’s performance in Let Him Go

Okay, yeah, so I totally checked over 100 reviews of Let Him Go just to see what they had to say about Booboo Stewart. Relevant quotes under the cut, but let’s just summarize first:

Apparently the film starts out as a slow drama and ends up as a bloody revenge flick, which means that there are some reviewers who go “it takes forever to get started, but once it does it’s great!” and other reviewers who go “it started out really nice, but wtf was that ending?”

Likewise, Booboo has a small role, and there are some reviewers who go “what was even the point of that character?” and others who go “I wanted the whole movie to be about that character!” Also plenty who don’t mention him at all.

The important bit: while I have seen some criticism of the writing of his character, I have not seen a single reviewer criticize his acting. Everyone who mentions his acting is praising it.

Bezucha seems compelled to accentuate more compassionate moments, such as the Blackledges’ fairly contrived but still welcome relationship with a young Native American man played by Booboo Stewart. Best known for playing Seth Clearwater in The Twilight Saga, Stewart shows nice depth here as a peaceful drifter who helps George and Margaret pull off a hard-fought family reunion. (Collider)

I definitely want to give props to Booboo Stewart, who played Peter. If I'm being honest, I would have loved to have seen a movie just based on his upbringing. I thought that that young man, Booboo Stewart as Peter in this film, kind of this outcast in a sense, hearing his story was so tragic, and again, I would have loved to dug deeper into that, but man, this guy did a really good job in the little bit of scenes that we spent with him, and the scenes that he shared with Diane Lane I thought had a lot of emotional impact, and I thought he did a really good job in this movie as well. Booboo Stewart does a solid enough job at offering a sympathetic new take on typically well-worn character tropes. (comingsoon.net)

In the supporting cast, Carter is fine, but Stewart invests greater poignancy into Peter, a young man robbed of his birthright but retaining the nobility it confers on him. (One Guy's Opinion)

Booboo Stewart also has a nice role as a local Native American escapee of a residential school, who helps the older couple in their quest, but has enough agency to know the two are pushing things way too far with the Weboy clan. (Joblo)

2: I was going to say, I wish there was more to him, though, because he does feel like an idea, like a device, and he does very conveniently show up when he is needed to, to help make things happen, and that feels a little contrived and I wish there was more to him.

SO SFW AZ (Cutlass)

A: Affection (How affectionate are they with a s/o?)

Very tactile but also very stiff. It is fairly obvious Cutlass cares and she shows it more and more the farther into the relationship an s/o goes but it takes some guidance on what is appropriate and what you need. She tends to expect her partners to voice what you need and if you don’t she assumes those needs are met.

B: Breath (What can their s/o do to take their breath away?)

Listening. Cutlass tends to be very action driven and when she does speak she hates repeating herself. Listening and actually doing what she’s asked (coughorderedcough) without making it a hassle actually shows her you care and respect her. It's the fastest way to leave her speechless and no those aren’t hearts in her eyes, keep working!

C: Cuddling (Do they cuddle? If they do, how and when do they cuddle?)

So long as she can be the big spoon she doesn’t mind cuddling but much like hugging she is a bit stiff. Being a little spoon is out of the question for the current Cutlass, it's too long to be wrapped up in someone but she will allow you to lay in her lap. Stay long enough and you might hear her purr or convince her to sing you to sleep.

D: Dream (What do they dream of doing with their s/o?)

One of the few who enjoys what she does she actually would enjoy continuing to work on a ship. She fantasies, though she won’t say as much, her and her partner running all the seas.

E: Effort (How much effort do they put into a relationship?)

All of it. She doesn’t take these things lightly and if she is going to make this work she’lll put in as much effort as she does with everything and demand perfection from it.

F: Fear (What do they do if their s/o is scared? How do they handle it?)

She tends to let her s/o fend for themselves unless asked. It’s not that she doesn’t care but she isn’t used to needing to look after someone but once she knows what you need she is quick to catch on and will do whatever you need.

G: Gifts (What type of gifts do they give their s/o? Do they want a gift in return?)

She is fond of jewelry as a gift and enjoys seeing her s/o wear it. She doesn’t care for many things in return but do something nice for her and she won’t forget it.

H: Hugs (Do they hug their s/o? How often?)

Hugs are difficult for Cutlass. She wants to trust people but the idea of them having a literal hold on her doesn’t sit well. As such she has developed rules, much to everyone's amusement. You have to show her your hands and she times each hug, no more than 15 seconds per hug. When giving hugs she tends to brisk and it is similar to hugging a tree. Give her some time and she’ll get the hang of it but don’t laugh at her counting or your ears won’t survive the shouting match that follows.

I: Intimacy (How romantic are they? Do they have problems with intimacy?)

Much like her Tale counterpart she is fond of large gestures but hers tend to be aimed at describing her exact feelings. Romance? Have a ship full of red roses. Suggestive? Well now you have a box of clothes she would like to see you in. She isn’t shy in what she wants romantically or otherwise but it is new and she is prone to asking a thousand questions before going forth with any plans.

J: Jealous (Do they get jealous? How do they act when jealous?)

Not even slightly. Your hers and she’s yours and everyone knows it and if they don't’ she’ll just have to show them and you exactly what she means.

K: Kiss (Are they a good kisser? Do they like to kiss? How often do they try to kiss you?)

If she isn’t she is a quick study. Cutlass takes pride in doing her best at everything and that includes kissing her s/o. Her favorite place to kiss is actually your eyelids right as you close your eyes going in for a kiss but her favorite place to receive them is on the lips. Forget to give her one and she is likely to follow you and remind you why you shouldn’t forget by kissing you senseless, “AND NEXT TIME YOU WON’T FORGET, WILL YOU?”

L: Love (When do they say they love you? How often do they say it? Do they prefer to say it or show it?)

You’ll rarely hear Cutlass say it unless you ask specifically or on “special” occasions. Its not that she doesn’t, she tends to rely on you interpreting all her actions and prefers gestures to words as words hold little weight for her. It can be a point of contention for some but she’ll try if you ask.

M: Marriage (Do they want to get married? If so what kind of ceremony?)

Of course. That’s the next step in dating she just...has to propose. She can stop laughing Buckle! And obviously the ceremony would be the grandest there ever could be so long as thats what her s/o wants. She isn’t sure what she wants because she’d never thought that you’d actually say yes.

N: Night Out (What type of dates do they like to go on? How often do they like to go on them?)

A bit on the formal side and by the book Cutlass enjoys wining and dining her s/o on dates. All very classy and elegant, a show of her wealth and power but also a way for her to provide for you in the best way she knows how. She likes to have set times at least once a week but she’ll do more if asked.

O: Out of the Ordinary (What’s something they don’t normally do for/with their s/o?)

She isn’t one to give declarations but when given the opportunity she can sweep you off your feet with songs she may or may not have written for you.

P: Playful (Are they playful in a relationship? If so, how do they play around/mess with their s/o?)

Much like her sister she is rather serious but she does enjoy good word play and innuendos, surprisingly her humor can be a bit crass. She isn’t a fan of physical pranks though and loses her temper with them fairly quickly.

Q: Questions (Do they ask their s/o their opinion on things? Do they share theirs?)

Yes actually. Cutlass likes being in charge but she needs to know the rules first and she hates being ignored herself; she tries not to ignore her partner's wishes either. That said, she is hesitant and cautious about giving her own and when she does voice her thoughts it is only after she has stewed in them.

R: Random (How spontaneous is their relationship? Do they do things on the spot or plan ahead?)

Not very. Cutlass has your relationship planned from the start till death do you part and she can be a bit fussy and jittery about kinks and sudden plans being thrown in the mix. She isn’t the biggest fan of change.

S: Sleep (How do they sleep with their s/o?)

Unlike the waking hours sleeping Cutlass curls around her s/o like she can shield them from the world. She is a bit like an octopus in her sleep, good luck getting away or any space because she sleeps like the dead.

T: Trust (How much do they trust their s/o?)

Completely. If she’s pursued a relationship with you that means she has waited until she already trusts you, she wouldn’t be in a relationship otherwise.

U: Unique (What makes them unique as a s/o?)

Skeleton. Hot. Pirate.

V: Vulnerable (How long until they can be vulnerable around their s/o? What are they like in this state?)

Immediately but only in private. She becomes softer spoken, less temperamental and more willing to discuss rather than order. Her patience seems to lengthen as well and she trusts in you keeping her secrets as she’ll keep yours.

W: Wild Card (Random domestic headcanon)

While she enjoys being waited on hand and foot, Cutlass does the same in return. Need a footrub? She’s on it. Shoulder hurt? Backrub time. Long day? She already has the bath going. She is an attentive partner and she shows it at every chance she gets, she’ll spoil you if you let her.

X: X-Ray (What would they do if their s/o got injured?)

Very likely to freeze at first then work to get her s/o to safety. She won’t have a chance to do much else because Buckle will have already taken care of it.

Y: Yuck (Do they have any pet peeves about their s/o? Are there any habits that might bother their s/o?)

Same as her sister she isn’t a fan of roughhousing and makes it known very, very clearly.

Z: Zeal (Are they passionate as a s/o? Do they want or like passion?)

She is and she practically demands the same from her s/o. It may be awkward going at first as her version of passion isn’t to the definition but give her a bit of time and direction and she’ll get there.

Meet the Members! (And Their Boss)

Now that you’ve met Ninety One the group, it’s time to meet the five individuals, because that’s where the fun lies: in their individuality, in their humanity, in the potential empathy. In her OWOB on BTS, Maddie Lee went into greater detail about this in the context of Korean idol pop (and that is not going to be the last BTS reference this week, so, yeah, go ahead and read Maddie’s whole week, come back, I’ll still be posting, trust me). And also because each of the five members of Ninety One has a different role to play in the group’s music and marketing--and I suspect, even more than most groups currently active in the global boy-band scene, the group’s musical output is shaped by their goals and capabilities.

And I get to dote on them some more, obviously.

Azamat Zenkayev (Азамат Зенкаев), stage name AZ, was born on September 28, 1993, in Atryau, in northwest Kazakhstan. (In the short documentary released on Ninety One’s YouTube channel last summer, Alem says that AZ’s northwestern accent makes him sound rough and abrupt, as if Atrayau is the New Jersey of Kazakhstan.) He is one of two members who joined Juz Entertainment through the performance competition show K-Top Idols, and one of its two rappers, though he occasionally (kind of) sings; he’s also the group’s leader, though his bossing everyone else around is more often implied than shown. I get the impression his sense of humor is relatively subtle and hard to translate, but he does have his camera-friendly quirks, like a longstanding fondness for a pair of red high-top sneakers and a habit of covering his mouth when he laughs.

Batyrkhan Malikov (Батырхан Маликов), stage name Alem (Kazakh for “world”, pronounced ah-LEHM), was born on February 18, 1993, in Uchkuduk, Uzbekistan, although from comments he’s made I believe his family is ethnically Kazakh and/or moved to Kazakhstan when he was very young. In 2013-14, prior to joining Juz Entertainment, he was a contestant on Kazakhstan’s version of The Voice. He’s one of the group’s two baritones (with Bala) and co-composer of all four of the Qarangy Zharyq singles released so far. His other major role in Ninety One is to be the mom, whether that’s waking up the guys to make some godawful early flight to Astana or cheering on their solo stages. (Furthermore, like many moms, he's especially tolerant of his youngest.) As of this summer he has an Instagram account, and it is a blessing to us all.

Azamat Ashmakyn (Азамат Ашмақын), stage name Ace, was born on August 29, 1993, and is the only one of the five members from Almaty. He participated in the 2011 global auditions for one of the K-pop “Big Three,” SM Entertainment, and was actually an SM trainee for two years before returning to Kazakhstan. He was then the last of the five to join Ninety One, and you can find a sweet moment in this interview where AZ, ZaQ, and Alem describe how his arrival was like the final piece of a puzzle falling into place. He’s a tenor, the second member to get an Instagram, and Ninety One’s resident polymath, having studied at least four languages (Kazakh, Russian, Korean, and Spanish). Also, his face is quite possibly made entirely of rubber.

Dulat Mukhametkaliev (Дулат Мұхамм��тқалиев), stage name ZaQ, was born February 8, 1996, in Semey, which is in northeast Kazakhstan. He’s the group’s other rapper; like AZ, he joined Juz Entertainment through K-Top Idols (but before that he was busy winning prestigious international Russian-language competitions, nbd). He and AZ have been writing their own raps ever since; they also have the sole lyrics credits on the four singles off Qarangy Zharyq, and the comics included with each single’s release are apparently mostly ZaQ’s doing. ZaQ was the first member to join Instagram, where he’s been busy cultivating an #aesthetic influenced by his longstanding love of Japanese animation. He also deserves credit for getting the web series Ninety One Space, of which more later, off to a valuably ridiculous start.

Daniyar Kulumshin (Данияр Құлымшин), stage name Bala (Kazakh for “young child”; it’s pronounced BAH-lah; any resemble to “baller” is amusing but coincidental) was born on February 19, 1998, in Aqtobe in western Kazakhstan. He comes from a performing family, and started singing fairly young, hence the existence of many pre-debut videos. He is now Ninety One’s other baritone and has started composing music alongside Alem. He is also the aspiring third rapper--rare is the live performance that doesn’t have Bala mouthing along with ZaQ’s and AZ’s raps--and expert in charming the nearest available camera.

Of course, every modern boy band worth its salt needs a decent Svengali, and the Tam Patten / Maurice Starr / Lou Pearlman / Lee Soo Man role for Ninety One is filled by Yerbolat Bedelkhan, CEO of Juz Entertainment. I will be calling him Boss Yerbolat, because it amuses me. He already had some fame (and experience with dramatic eye makeup, as GIFed above) from his original group, Orda. Then he was one of the judges of K-Top Idols, and now, in addition to his producer duties, he helps compose Ninety One’s songs, directs their music videos, probably contributes backing vocals here and there, and occasionally fills in as Ace’s personal hairdresser. Oh, and he’s also a total hipster dad with the requisite delightful Instagram feed.

Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to do justice to the people who do the behind-the-scenes work for Juz Entertainment, but let me at least mention Assyl Bedelkhan, a.k.a. Mrs. Boss, who has some kind of official role with the company (I’m guessing she handles administrative and marketing duties). Her Insta would be charming as an ongoing portrait of a working mom in the entertainment industry with three extremely adorable kids even if it didn’t feature frequent glimpses of Ninety One with said extremely adorable kids.

I took out an insurance policy with swinton Insurance they quoted me 250.00 I agreed to this amount. I have been driving for over 12 years with no claim made against my policy.
