look, do i like checo perez? no. but the amount of racist shit i‘ve had to see today alone is just insane.
being treated with decency and respect and not be subjected to discriminatory behavior is not a privilege to be earned by being good at your job or likable person, it is a human right.
i do love being a hater but if you resort to racism & xenophobia you are not only - but first and formost - a horrible person, but also uncreative. if you must hate be better & find some actual things to say.
if i see any racist hate i will assume that you‘re just a racist piece of trash hating for that reason and using any kind of incidents as a pretext to justify your disgusting views & you will be yelled at, reported & blocked.
#and this is not just about him#i will fight any racist bullshit i‘ll see against lewis yuki checo zhou and any other driver subjected to it#ik mentioning if you like or don‘t like a person in this context is a slippery thing#but i think it is imporant that it is clear that people who don‘t also stand up & unite against stuff like this#i might have more to say but i can‘t think rn#so if abything about this doesn‘t sound right feel free too call me out#f1#formula one#formula 1#checo perez#sergio perez#yuki tsunoda#zhou guanyu#lewis hamilton

Any lovely witchy friends out there have advice for reaching out to a deity?
#personal#been a practising witch for a long time but never really thought about having a patron#but more and more recently i feel a pull towards some specific beings. ive been making some small offerings in the form of crafts#related to their imagery and totem style representations but i havent actually attempted to contact them#or open any direct channels of communication. and as ive never had a patron deity before im not sure how to start that process#how to transition from a solo practice to a more collaborative participation#so any advice is much appreciated! feel free to dm if your suggestions might be more personal or longer than a reply#i only know a few other witches in real life and i dont think any of them deal with deities either so id love to make some friends#who also practice too i think its really good to learn this stuff from real people and not only internet stuff#bc internet stuff especially in regards to witchery can be bs at best and straight up racist and culturally appropriating at worse#and genuinely dangerous at worst for inexperienced practicers so i do prefer knowledge from other real humanoids when possible#witchcraft#witchblr

Like, honestly, I think y’all would benefit a LOT from the Grocery Store Test when it comes to talking to other people on this webbed site.
It’s super easy and it makes life better for everyone. Here’s the test;
If you were in line at the grocery store, and two total strangers were having the conversation you’re thinking of butting into in the queue ahead of you… would you speak up?
Sometimes the answer is absolutely yes; you’d probably call someone out if they say something bigoted. You might chime in if you agree and have additional insight to add. These things you’d do without really hesitating. They’re fine to do online.
Sometimes the answer is absolutely no; if you agree but don’t have points to add, maybe you just nod and smile and go “Yeah, exactly!” to yourself, the equivalent of a Like or a quiet Reblog with maybe a few positive tags in it. Maybe you have no idea what they’re talking about so you shrug and go “Eh, not interested” and move on to looking at the candy rack.
And sometimes… sometimes the answer isn’t clear cut. And those are the times where you gotta use your brains, my good bitches.
If you have a respectful disagreement, is it your place to chime in? Can you accept the consequences that might come with that (people maybe being rude to you when you stuck your head into a place that you weren’t really invited to, for instance.) Is it worth risking them to make your voice heard, here? That’s on a case-by-case basis.
And, perhaps most importantly… IS IT AN IMPORTANT ENOUGH DISAGREEMENT TO ACTUALLY TAKE SOMEONE TO TASK FOR???
Would you tell that grandma in line ahead of you that Character McCharacterface sucks, he sucks shit, and you should be ASHAMED that he’s your favorite character in Showy McShowface? Would you tell an excitable preteen buying some Skittles for a movie night with her friends you hate her ship and you don’t want to hear about it here in a public place that’s as much hers as yours?
Or would you wait until they leave and then make a snarky, quiet aside to your friend? Or wander off to another part of the equally shared public store and go “GOD I hate Character McCharacterface,” to let it out?
Basically, if the answer to your question is “I wouldn’t say this to a person’s face/treat them like this in the flesh”…
…why are you doing it on the Internet? We’re all (mostly, I love you Haikubot) people here, just separated by each other by screens and electrons. We’ve all got inner lives, complexities, and things that light us up, but which other people might find blinding. Take a minute to consider how you want to ask your neighbor to turn their lights down. To think before you hit Send. It’s hard. I fucking KNOW it’s hard. I have been learning and relearning it for 32 years now, and the emotions want you to bite like a shrieking fuckweasel half of the time.
But we gotta treat each other better, and we gotta put in a little thought and care and effort. We can’t just fly off the handle whenever we feel like it and expect the universe to shrug it off; we’re not the only ones experiencing it. We can’t let ourselves get addicted to the cheap dopamine hit of holding ourselves as morally superior to people for any and all minor reasons that come to mind; you gotta accept the fact that sometimes people just do things, no judgement or morals or reasoning attached, just human beings doing the being part, and that it’s ok.
Newton’s Third Law applies to human conversations, too; for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Stop and think for a minute about what that might be before you hit send (unless it’s just a straight up random act of kindness, that action-reaction is pleasant and warranted like 99.99% of the time.)
And if you do like being a rot-mouthed snakefucker to people online for minor disagreements specifically because they’re easier to dehumanize here and can’t turn your snout concave when you’re a cunt to them, well… I don’t know what to tell you. You’ve become the bullies you claim to hate, and you should either take a good hard look at your life or accept that people are going to shut you out of pretty much every conversation eventually on account of your slime-guzzling nature.
And, no, you don’t get to complain about that when it happens, either.
Remember the Grocery Store Test when you get up in arms about something; it’ll make your life and everyone else’s a hell of a lot better and keep us a hell of a lot closer to the caring community we all really want to be.
#I encounter stuff I hate all the time every day… it’s easy and tempting to be a shit about it#but ultimately the Grocery Store Test saves me a lot of time and energy#and frees up my day for more important pursuits like supporting and working in ecological recovery and protection efforts#and petting cats and baking bread and 3-D printing a sick dragon based on a beautiful sea slug#everyone is more than just the shell you see; try to keep that in mind and be kinder where you can#but oh yeah fuck that racist grandpa up in the grocery line; savage his ass

Tbh the more darkfic I read and write the less seriously I can take discourse/fan wank about how "problematic" something is. Guarantee that for any oh so "fucked up" piece of media out there, fans could and have written worse. Sometimes the fans who have written worse are the ones doing the discoursing and that's the silliest of all.
#discourse#this isnt about someone being racist or something it's more like#'omg this show has an abusive romanticized relationship!'#yeah and i know a million fans who habe written those for free. for fun. on their own time#like idk i'm just not impressed any more esp when i see dark content creators being the ones to discourse#like oh really? so it's okay for you and your friends specifically to write fucked up stuff#but when someone else writes soemthing fucked up that you dont like suddenly the freak label comes out#like idk man i do still have my things where i think ppl who write them are repugnant#but that doesnt mean i go bashing them or supporting censorship or whatever#because I AM ALSO A FREAK so like if i tried to criticize ppl for making something i see is problematic#it's literally a pot/kettle thing#also fandom and young peoples standards for fucked up are like on the floor lmao

fuck the german media equaling calls to stop the genocide in gaza with antisemitism, telling the truth about how the state of israel was created with antisemitism, putting "genocide" in quotation marks when referring to what the israeli military do to gaza, putting "24 israeli soldiers killed in one hour" at the front page of the newspaper when so many more, disproportionally more, palestinians are being and have been killed every hour for the last few months, blaming pro-palestine activists for increased hate crimes against jews in germany when the antisemitic "israel/zionism = the entirety of jews and judaism" myth to blame for these antisemitic attacks is perpetuated by their very own twisted way of reporting, and all the other shit they do. the blood of palestinians as well as of those german jews is on their hands. fuck this hypocritical, racist, islamophobic, genocidal country we live in.
#anyway free palestine bc saying this isn't antisemitic#collective punishment as it is enacted against palestinians is a war crime and germany is complicit#israel is a terrorist state#palestine#germany#nothing is more antisemitic than zionism! can ppl use their fucking brains?#what's more antisemitic: a) fighting for jews' right to live freely and in peace anywhere on earth or#b) claiming only their own racist apartheid state can keep jews save bc they just can't live with others.#palestinians deserve their land back! israel stole their homes and the october attack was a reaction to their decades long violent#killing and oppression of palestinians! don't let them lie to you and claim it started on oct 7! it did not!#german stuff#t

accidentally getting a little too into my pedagogy class and starting to wonder if I should pivot and go into education (academic field)
#from the writer's den#void talks#not me seeing a paper on co-constructed rubrics as a potentially more positive route for writing assignments and pogging a little..........#I'd be embarrassed but it was actually a really interesting read#and at multiple points while reading I was like wow I would love to try this in class as part of Contributing To The Science#like deadass...#specifically for creative writing I would be interested in merging it a bit with the stuff in the anti-racist writing workshop (book title)#about collaboratively defining craft terms with students as a means of community building#like that'd be interesting to look at! rubrics shmubrics frankly I don't think they have a place in creative writing but like#if we expand it to thinking generally about assessment--which is inevitable in any credit-giving class--I think it applies#ESPECIALLY !!! since one of the things that the authors talk about is how rubrics in general are a useful way of standardizing grading#and guess what !! non-standardized grading is also a big issue when it comes to equalizing across race class etc#so like genuinely I think there's something there#and I would love to do a little study on it#frankly I might just do so since I'll be teaching next year and have basically free book on course design#at very least will be keeping this in mind for later in the semester when we'll be talking about assessment#but anyway. marge meme (holds up the field of education studies) I just think it's neat#and I have so much respect for it

Today I love...
Seeing a queer person out and about. (Look, some of us do look queer and there's no denying it.) Seeing these people always makes me feel better because it reminds me that we exist, we have a right to be here, and I'm not so isolated. I live in an area that's not the most queer-friendly, and I'm in the closet about my transidentity most of the time (because most people I see every day are my coworkers, who are frankly backwards politically).
It comforts me to see another person like me, and if it's a client, sorry not sorry but I'll treat them even better than I do others.
#today I love#ngl guys it's kinda hard going back into the closet after being free for quite some time#but it's hard enough not creating tensions at work because of political stuff and racist and homophobic and sexist comments#I can't set myself apart even more by being queer#my coworkers constantly say things that remind me we can't be friends and I can't let them know me so I'm always on my guard#this today I love is starting to get ditchy

I have seen multiple posts going around making fun of, or minimizing, what happened in Amsterdam from antizionists. So I want to give a timeline of what happened.
Pre the attack:
Before people arrived in Amsterdam for the football match, there were people organizing the pogrom. Stuff like wanting to steal jews passports, were shared on social media. Yes, the word used on social media was jews not Israelis. The main people organizing the attack were arab and muslim. We do not know at this point if all the attackers were arab and muslim, but we do know that at least a majority were. This fact does not mean that all Muslims and arabs want to harm all jews, however the extremism which lead to the attack and antisemitisms place in it can and should be talked about.
The Israeli government got wind of this attack and warned the Netherlands Police, who decided to not do anything to protect jews.
This did not happen because the Israeli team lost, despite what certain people are saying.
Day before or of the attack (unconfirmed which day it was):
Once in Amsterdam, there were some fans who did tear down Palestinian flags and chant a racist anti arab chant. Whilst this is still very much racist and should be labeled as such as viewed as bad, it's not out of character for for European football culture, and has happened before with other fans which have not lead to them being hunted down. The pogrom was pre planned and still not a proportional response.
The attack:
Jews were hunted down, beaten, run over, and many more things. They were also forced to say "free gaza" and "free Palestine"
The attack harmed far more than just those who were racist. They attacked jews and anyone they perceived as Jewish indiscriminately.
Jews were saved by an Arab Israeli football player speaking to them loudly in Arabic so people assumed they were arab Israeli or just Arab.
A Greek man was attacked because he could not prove to the attackers that he wasn't jewish and was in fact Greek.
A brittish man was punched because he helped save jews. And when he told his attackers that he was brittish and not israeli or jewish (not sure if he wasn't, but he told his attackers he wasn't), he was told "but you helped a jew"
Jewish businesses were also broken into.
How and why it is antisemitic:
If at this point, you still cannot see why it was an antisemitic attack, let's recap.
• It was a planned attack on jews, not Israelis, jews. And it was planned before any racist things happened.
● jews were spared if they were perceived to be non jews, including being perceived as arab Israeli and non jews were attacked for being perceived as jews and for helping jews
• Jewish businesses were broken into. If it was about breaking into zionist businesses, ones own by non Jewish zionists also would've been broken into, but they were not.
• Non Israeli jews were attacked
It is antisemitic, as the targets of the attack were specifically jews. It was not revenge for palestine or for racist comments.
Israel intervened and flew people out of Amsterdam as it was no longer safe for jews in the city. Not because they lost the match.

Frankly Sir, the whole procedure was a joke. For all their power they’re just a bunch of undisciplined runts. The leader was the only one halfway decent at lying to my face and he broke upon seeing the Key.
Were you able to gather any further information in regards to the Key’s whereabouts?
None yet. However, it’s obvious that these mutants were involved somehow…
…Do you suspect they had a hand in acquiring the Key for the enemy?
I… can’t say for certain yet. However, I doubt any sort of intentional collaboration occurred.
And what of their origin?
Obviously falsified. But to what degree I can’t say. The DNA samples however have been far more enlightening.
How so?
They’re different from other mutants, human or animal. They’re completely free of the usual abnormalities. It’s almost as if… they were designed to be what they are. Instead of just some freak accident.
…Your final assessment, then? Given the information you’ve gathered it appears they should be immobilized and transported for further testing.
With all due respect, Sir, I wouldn’t dare hand them over to the labs. I’m not about to let those coats dissect the only edge we now have against the Krang. Frankly I don’t care if they’re turtles or humans or even more aliens. They’re the best chance we have at winning this war. Given the state of things I feel they will side with our cause.
…Then, so long as they prove useful, I shall defer to you, Agent Bishop. Keep in mind that it is EPF‘s job not only to protect the people of Earth from threats such as the Krang but from those within our own walls. It will be your job to keep them under constant surveillance. And should they step out of line in the slightest…
I understand, Sir.

I wasn't going to post this, but I have been receiving a number of questions in regards to the interview / interrogation. While I don't think this scene is necessary reading material, it does shed some light on what to expect for the Holiday Special and the boys' place within the Central Park Colony. I have way too much stuff in my head that will never see the light of day, so here, have a snippet.
NOTE: also... I may have realized that I accidentally put the wrong colony name in the interview comic >_< It should be the CENTRAL PARK COLONY that's interviewing them, NOT the LIBERTY COLONY (which is the better, less racist one that they create years later). 5,000 likes and reblogs later and it has now been corrected, oops. Ehehe I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
#should I put this in the comic archive?#i don't know since it's more heavy reading material than the usual comic#Holiday Special coming soon#hopefully#I am taking way too long on this but I think people will like it#rottmnt replica#replica#rottmnt#kathaynesart#save rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#unpause rise of the tmnt#unpause rottmnt

i don’t think dot and bubble was trying to do both “phone bad” commentary and race commentary. i don’t think it was trying to do “phone bad” commentary at all. the episode wore the veneer of a mediocre black mirror clone to lull the viewer into expecting something predictable and bland—haha they can’t walk without their phones! mid-tier episode but good enough—and then it hits you with the fucking gut punch of that ending, and the Why of the episode falls into place.
i almost wonder if the real “phone bad” commentary has to do with the experiences of people of color in fandom, where they’re having fun with the story and feel a sense of belonging and then boom. they realize that there are racist people and ideas in a situation that previously felt predictable and safe. i’ve heard princess weekes discuss that experience before, and she even made a video essay about martha jones in doctor who. and of course that experience goes far beyond fandom, in much more serious ways, but it’s the technology stuff that made me think of it specifically. and now that i think of it, there are hints dropped about those much more serious ways in the episode—something about a very modern-day-esque police institution existing in this far-off future utopia, and the way lindy called for them, had already rubbed me the wrong way.
maybe this episode was rtd’s attempt to grapple with the ways he failed martha jones and mickey smith in his original run. acknowledging that an adventure can be destroyed in a second, with the realization that everyone else on the adventure sees you as less worthy than your white counterparts. ncuti performs the doctor’s realization and reaction extremely well. i’m glad that this episode exists.
i’m going to rewatch this immediately, i think. please feel free to add your thoughts.

For whatever reason, I found myself thinking about the theme of heritage/inheritance in Harry Potter and how it's, like, catastrophically broken in the text.
The villains in Harry Potter are almost unanimously racist and classist - they believe they are entitled to behave however they wish and live at the top of the social hierarchy because they were born to rich, pureblooded families, and anyone who wasn't is filth to be exploited and/or purged. That's the philosophy of evil in the book - "I deserve everything because I was born in the right family with the right genes and the right social standing. My heritage makes me better than you."
All the injustice and evil in the books is rooted in this belief in entitlement by way of heritage. People are abused and die because of it. Inherited wealth and status, and more specifically the unfair priveleges it affords, is the root of evil in Harry Potter.
So you'd think the protagonist would present some sort of strong contrast to it, right? That they'd be born poor, or mixed race, etc. But no, Harry is from a rich pureblood family, with the vast wealth and social status that affords.
Well, that's OK, we can still make a contrast. Maybe Harry differs in how he acts with wealth - perhaps, realizing his inheritance is an unfair privilege, he gives it away? Maybe he works to give the underprivileged their due? Again, no, not really. He sometimes buys stuff for his poor friend Ron, and defends his "mudblood" friend Hermione from racist criticism, but he sees no reason to change the system that dehumanizes them in the first place, and by the end of the tale is pleased to exploit his privilege for his own gain.
The whole house elf subplot illustrates this failing well - we have a race of slaves who are frequently shown to suffer from abuse. One of them, the property of a rich racist, risks his life to save Harry, and Harry frees him in return. Oh, nice, finally fighting the system, eh? Except no, not really - while Harry frees that specific slave, he's content to leave the others in bondage, especially when he inherits a slave of his own.
The contrast Harry Potter puts up against its rich, racist, privileged villains is "Hey, being rich and higher in the hierarchy is awesome and just, but you can't be a dick about it." That slaves belong in the dirt, but masters should be polite while putting them in their place.
Voldemort posits himself as the heir of Slytherin - claiming his inheritance is vital to his rise to power and villainy. And Harry opposes him by... also claiming inheritance from a rich old dead guy. Hell, the final battle comes down to who rightfully inherits a specific rare Wand!
The fact that Harry and Voldemort have shit in common is not a flaw on its own - villains and heroes are often foils for each other. But in this specific tale, the relationship the villain has with inherited power is so central to the conflict that the hero having the exact same relationship is a major failing. The story is just shy of saying "Voldemort was basically right, but he shouldn't have been rude about it." It's bad from both a moral and a writing skill perspective.
(The only inheritance Harry fully rejects is parseltongue, i.e. the ability to talk to snakes, which was accidentally given to him by Voldemort, and could be argued to be a symbol of trauma rather than inherited wealth. Also I'm still salty about how that series turned on snakes so cruelly, but that's a whole other rant.)
