I got tagged by @xpromethiosx !!!
Why did you choose your URL?
My first name is Haleigh, and "sloth" is a play on words I guess. It's very close to my actual last name lol
Any side blogs?
One that was mostly a name saving blog. Haleigh-goth lol. I was gonna use it for halloween but I don't feel like going through the trouble of changing my main URL. I think if I can travel more starting in November like I plan to, I may make it into a travel blog to just keep my pictures and videos.
How long have you been on tumblr
Oof. I was in 9th grade soooo 2011. With a decent break ranging from 2016/17 to last November, 2020.
Do you have a queue tag?
Nope. But I do have a queue going.
Why did you start your blog in the first place?
I started it in 9th grade basically to nerd out. I was into manga and anime and it's what me and my best friends used to express that interest.
Why did you choose your icon/pfp
I use drawings for my icon to have a unique one that nobody else will have. Even before BNHA. Shigaraki because he's my favorite.
Why did you choose your header?
Again, same reason. It's a drawing. And it's Midoriya and Shigaraki because I love them both, they're my favorite part of the story, and I can't wait for their conclusion.
What’s your post with the most notes?
A post with the panel of Touya ripping at his hair from the spoilers. From waaaay back when 300 came out and we got that glimpse of stressed little Touya.
How many mutuals do you have?
I have no idea, but not too many. I like it that way.
How many followers do you have?
818. Some of these ARE from the old days though. A lot of them are not current, or even active on tumblr.
How many people do you follow
49 lmao
How often do you use tumblr each day?
Oof more than I'm proud of. It passes time when work is dead, it's my "me time" at night after work before bed. So I guess at least two hours of interacting with the website each day.
Did you have a fight/argument with another blog once?
I think I've argued once or twice. Back when I was just getting into the fandom on here for BNHA. Then I quickly realized that there's only like, 40 or so blogs worth talking to lmao, and that arguing is dumb. I'm gonna post and say what I want, and I encourage other people to do the same on their own blog instead of arguing. Asks prompting discussions are different, but straight up arguing back and forth is dumb.
How do you feel about “you need to reblog this posts”
I ignore them. Half the time I check the comments and the info on the post is faulty, or I just don't find it actually helpful to reblog a fucking post to help a cause.
Do you like tag games?
YES!
Do you like ask games?
YES!!!!
Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
@/hamliet for sure lol, aside from her I'd say @/thyandrawrites is pretty big and has a big following, @/todomitoukei also because her translations are badass and everyone knows it
Do you have a crush on a mutual?
No, y'all watch anime how could I ever
Tagging: @redphlox @mettywiththenotes @helga-grinduil @todomitoukei @thyandrawrites
Sorry if any of y'all were tagged already 🥺
#i don't tag everyone because fear of being annoying#but i'd tag all muts if i could#anyway#tag game#personal

Tagged by @starlless and @eivor-basim, thank you my dears!! i love tag games ♥️
1. Why did you choose your url?
Because i love time travelling concepts and the time turner is so cool! also PoA has my soul, it’s my favorite movie of the HP series (and it’s also one of the best books), and it introduces the marauders which by itself deserves some recognition lmao and although i’m not very active as a potterhead anymore, i’m very lazy about changing urls and this is one i really like
2. Any side blogs?
not anymore, no! i co-ran a THG blog a few years ago and ‘dailyhermionegranger’ recently too but side blogs have never been my thing.
3. How long have you been on tumblr?
i joined this hell of a website in 2011, abandoned this blog around 2013/2014 and the pandemic brought me back here! i missed so much this community and making gifs, i never realized.
4. Do you have a queue tag?
currently it’s just ‘queue’. i kept changing it but got bored lmao
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
i made this especific blog due to the potter fandom going complete nuts with in end of the series in middle 2011. i had another blog before, more humorous, but fandom life is my life.
6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
BECAUSE INEJ IS SO AÇLSKSKDLÇAKS
7. Why did you choose your header?
the power of that cloak flap? oh boy, i saw that scene and was immediately on my knees for darklina. also, i love the ‘like calls to like’ quote.
8. What’s your post with the most notes?
it’s from back when posts where still 500px so nevermind the quality, but this bitch here has 600k+ notes and i have zero regrets açlskalç
9. How many mutuals do you have?
oh shit idk. so many of my mutuals are unactive blogs that i refuse to unfollow.
10. How many followers do you have?
6K ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU DARLINGS. 2013 vibezzzz
11. How many people do you follow?
currently 442, which taken as this blog is from 2011 and i rarely unfollow anyone, it’s a pretty low number.
12. Have you ever made a shit post?
depends on what you consider a shit post maybe? lmao ofc i’ve made them, i joined this website when i was 14 😂
13. How often do you use tumblr a day?
some days i don’t even use, so maybe once a day?
14. Did you ever have a fight/argument with another blog?
nah, i usually ignore fandom fights. too depressed and insecure to spend energy on that lmao (but group chats? hell yeah)
15. How do you feel about the ‘you need to reblog’ posts?
i don’t even get how people stopped reblogging stuff. i completely missed the moment when it happened, due to my absence from 2014-2020. when i left it was still somewhat ‘easy’ to get notes on posts and suddenly people only like stuff?? idk man, it’s really dumb that we need to convince people to share edits and stuff (but humans are dumb so yeah).
16. Do you like tag games?
I doooo, although it’s been taking me AGES to get to them alçksalçs
17. Do you like ask games?
same answer from the last one!
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
what do you consider as tumblr famous? ‘cause i follow 3k-follower blogs that are more known than other 10k-follower blogs. honestly i’d say that today i’ve got about 30-50 mutuals that are quite active and popular and LOADS of other mutuals that deserve more followers because they’re so amazing <3
19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?
i’m hella married but my girls from the darklina server are all smoking hot so i’d say they’re my crushes
20. Tags!
@frodo-baggins, @hermionegrangers, @arthurpendragonns, @starkozova, @niinazenik, @saint-aleksander, @poppykru, @barnesplots, @hunterschafer, @redbelles, @zoya-nazyalenskys and whoever else that feels like it ❤

definitive VERY SERIOUS ranking of MCU characters, best to trash
Gamora and Nebula - tied for first place because prickly, traumatized assassin women? that’s my shit. prickly, traumatized assassin women working through their issues TOGETHER and growing closer as sisters? YEAH, babey! that’s the shit! I love them and they deserved arcs that loved them, too. biggest injustice in the MCU.
Thor - absolutely excellent. amazing work. distinguished slut vibes and a radiant beam on sunshine in this shithole world. again, never saw Endgame, but he deserved better.
Sam Wilson - going strong since 2014, babey. just an all-around great guy, good for him finally getting his own show. will I be watching it? absolutely not. not a force on god’s green earth could make me care enough to pirate a marvel television show in this the year of our lord and savior 2020, even if he is a very cool dude with wings.
Bucky Barnes - all the fun of Steve but no moral quandaries because everything bad that he did happened when he was being controlled by nazis and he feels really bad about it uwu
Peter Parker - yes OBVIOUSLY the movies did Peter dirty, we’ve all seen a fucking essay about it, making him Iron Man Jr was wack and being poor doesn’t look like that, but he’s cute and fun and I like Tom Holland, who was the emotional anchor who forced me to keep giving a sliver of a shit during Infinity War. Far From Home was pretty not good but would I see another Spider-Man movie? fuck, maybe.
Steve Rogers - idk I just think he’s neat. really love how he’s shaped like a dorito and hates nazis.
James Rhodes - I don’t think Rhodey’s ever said or done anything that wasn’t iconic and for that he deserves to be exactly one spot above his idiot best friend.
Tony Stark - I hold possibly the most unpopular opinion on Tony Stark on this entire hellsite, which is that he’s just fine. he’s fun sometimes, he’s irritating sometimes, he made some points during Civil War. he should probably lose more points for being a former war profiteer but if I started digging into comic book logic too much I’d have to change my url because Batman cooperates with cops and endangers children, so idk.
T’Challa - I don’t remember a TON about T’Challa’s actual personality because it’s been like 4 years since Black Panther came out and he had like 2 lines in Infinity War, but he’s a powerful nerd/jock multiclasser who spends most of his time surrounded by women who are very smart and dangerous and much cooler than him and I really respect that.
Natasha Romanoff - Natasha is difficult to rank because for a long time her dominant defining characteristic was being The Girl One, which means she has a different personality in pretty much every movie, and it was never interesting. if Marvel had rubbed two brain cells together and given her a solo movie between 2012 and 2015 she might have fared better, but alas. press F in the chat for Nat’s potential.
Groot, Rocket, Drax, Mantis - I love these funky socially incompetent aliens. more of them, please.
Bruce Banner - only interesting in Ragnarok when he’s Thor’s anxious comedic foil and boyfriend; thank you for that small gift, Taika. I never saw Endgame because I love myself, so I don’t know anything about professor Hulk and I don’t want to.
Peter Quill - fun in theory but loses points for being such a painful walking embodiment of the extremely heterosexual “idiot manchild gets hot competent gf by virtue of being white cishet protagonist man.” shut the fuck up she’s way too good for him.
Wanda Maximoff - despite all of Joss Whedon’s best efforts I really liked her in Age of Ultron and then my love for her just decreased with each subsequent appearance. like Natasha she was increasingly a different character each time; by Infinity War she didn’t have her accent anymore as if Elizabeth Olsen realized nobody else on set would remember or care about Wanda’s previous portrayals. on god I liked her so much that I was even down to root for her and Vision but then the majority of it happened offscreen and lost me forever.
Pietro Maximoff - mmm watcha saaaaaay
Hope Van Dyne - cooler than Ant-Man but not by much. should have been a lesbian and kissed Pepper Potts in the moonlight.
Carol Danvers - fuck dude idk, I’ve never seen a movie she’s in lmao
Ant-Man - the recurring joke with this bitch seems to be “haha can you believe he exists? that’s dumb!” and it is. it is dumb. why did we need him? it could have all payed off with him crawling up Thanos’ asshole and exploding but we didn’t even get that. bullshit.
Vision - man, fuck, I tried to put him higher on the list than Peter Quill and I couldn’t make myself do it. that’s how goddamn boring Vision was. and you know what? fuck it, we’re putting him lower than Pietro, too. and even Ant-Man! we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel here and he deserves it because I can’t think of one thing this dude did that I enjoyed other than being bad at cooking when he was trying to impress a girl.
Doctor Strange - I’m not going to make a Benedict Cumberbatch joke because that’s low hanging fruit but all I know is that this is the dude who’s mean to Tony in a horny way for five minutes of Infinity War. I never saw his movie, heard it was racist tho. and they didn’t even learn their lesson before they made Iron Fist! smh bombastic colonialism.
Clint Barton - last place because in the absence of a personality or interesting character arc I’m forced to judge him on the fact that Jeremy Renner radiates bad vibes and that in Endgame he gets a makeover that makes him look like he’d call me slurs for telling him to stop hitting on 16 year old girls at a gas station.

Tag 5 or more people that you are thankful were in your 2020, that you’re thankful exists in a world that’s hard to live in. Whether that be through random reblogs on your posts, or people you have had full blown conversations with. Whether it’s just seeing them on your dash, or interacting with them. spread some love!
i was tagged by @clearlypositive ✨ right back at you, lovely!
@heartinthebyline i love that i ‘met’ kylie!! she’s a little ray of sunshine, super supportive and we bonded over our love of champagne problems and new years day ✨✨✨ taylor and piano = ascension. i also appreciate your persuasion in sharing my ukulele videos because it helps as like an -exposure- to slowly get over performance anxiety lol
@yourheartbeatonthehighline JOLIEN is the sweetest and i love that she also talks to herself in the tags. i do that all the time and i love it when i can find -my people- (and i wrote it down below but you’re also one of the first people who was like nice to me on this site so for that you are extra special to me)
@utolerateit MICHA please know how dumb i am. i looked all over for your name bc i know you changed it only to find i had already written it in a draft to post this lol. anyway micha is so fun/funny to follow, i always love seeing her posts pop up on my feed, or getting a random message in my inbox 💕
@tolerateit megha has the most beautiful edits! like it blows my mind the creativity and not only that but she supports other editors (like me who are not nearly as good!) your kindness does not go unnoticed lol PLUS tolerateit is a god tier url but i also think your previous one wins url of the year
@burning-brighter-than-the-sun aida you and @yourheartbeatonthehighline were actually one of the first people to like be friendly/nice to me within the fandom and for that i am so appreciative. i know we always catch each other at random times bc of the time difference but i love our interactions that we have had 💕💕
okay so it said to tag 5 or more and if i could i’d do 20 people BUT i will limit myself with 5 lol (that being said some other lovelies that i’m so glad i ‘met’ are @ohh-goddamn @sarcasm-and-glitter @prettygaytrashbag @notesonartistry @thisisctrying 💕💕💕 beautiful people everywhere)

Check-In Tag
I was tagged by @candlewaxandp0lar0ids
Sorry, it's late, I had a murderous week (not really but it felt like it because now the week is over, I'm bedridden, sick with 104°F fever)
Thank you for tagging me though love 💓
1. why did you choose your url?
It was nothing well-thought rather random. I was basically devouring Jungkook fanfics ( it seemed more popular on Tumblr, I was newly admitted in this fanfic kingdom) so that kinda inspired the url I guess?
2. any sideblogs? if you have them name them and why you have them
Umm, I'm not a fanfic writer. I do sometimes try to write plots for fanfic though (try!?). And no, don't have any sidebloggs. I'm trying to put together some fic recs based on category though.
3. how long have you’ve been on tumblr?
If I correctly remember it was around March, April this year? I don't exactly remember because I've been using it without an account since December, 2020 I guess. So the lines are kinda blurred.
4. do you have a queue tag?
Nopppeeee. I'm still figuring out Tumblr. (sometimes I feel dumb using it)
5. why did you start your blog in the first place?
To read, share & cheer on the fanfiction I was reading on Tumblr. I mean come-on they share gold stuff that's worth publishing for free! The least they deserve is all the love and appreciation the readers can give them. Huge shout-out to the big hearted writers there ❤️
6. why did you choose your icon?
I have this thing for Namjoon, I don't know how to explain it- Its like sometimes I find him so adorable that makes me weak on my knees also intimidates the hell out of me. Okay put short, because it's Namjoon- the one and only!
7. why did you choose your header?
I was having a Muster Jeon Flush 😅 (Will probably change it soon)
8. what’s your post with the most notes?
It's not exactly a fic ( cause I don't write them) but a fic idea. That would be Apocalyptic Heart.
9. how many mutuals do you have?
I don't know, I've never checked it
PS: I literally googled what's Mutual in Tumblr to ans it. Dumb, told yàa.
10. how many followers do you have?
15
Again I had to check my Tumblr to answer that question.
11. how many people do you follow?
73
12. have you ever made a shitpost?
Nah. Rant-post maybe.
13. how often do you use tumblr each day?
However my schedule allows me. I may as well spend the entire day or even go days without using it.
14. did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? who won?
I don't think so, I spend most of the time reading fics on Tumblr.
15. how do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?
Umm, debatable. And I don't think I've come across such post yet?
16. do you like tag games?
Yeah! When I have the time to do them!
17. do you like ask games?
I love sending authors ask!
18. which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
@sunshyngal -she's a sweetheart and I love- the sister I never had
I have so many other name but in case I miss out someone, it would be unfair. I'm kinda biased towards this woman(I feel no shame admitting and I shall not!) so I'm specifically mentioning her.
19. do i have a crush on a mutual?
Naah I don't think so.
So I'll tag - @sunshyngal @babeejk @craztextae @bibbykins @chinkbihh
Well you guys can try it if you find it interesting and willing to do it or have the time!!

Tag me
rules: answer these 30 questions and then tag 20 people you'd like to get to know better.
tagged by: @unadulteratedcolorkid (thank you for tagging me, friend!! i enjoyed reading your answers to this!)
answering below the cut to keep it short
name/nickname: im weird and keep things somewhat private so K will do
gender: lady
star sign: taurus
height: 5' 8"
time: 6pm
birthday: May 13th (born on a Friday the 13th BAYBEE)
favorite bands: Beach House, Lord Huron, Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Sleeping at Last, there are definitely more but I can’t remember!
favorite solo artists: Phoebe Bridgers, Gregory Alan Isakov, King Princess, Cavetown, Mitski, Sufjan Stevens, idk there’s a lot!
song stuck in my head: alone and sublime by mother mother, but that might change by the time Im done answering this bc my brain radio is strange!
last movie i watched: a documentary about Audrey Hepburn (sister’s choice)
last show: The Challenger documentary series on Netflix (man was that really sad to watch)
when did i create this blog: end of August 2020
what i post: sometimes tlou2 art and comics, songs, idk this blog is kind of a mess, but I appreciate this collection of mess
other blogs: yes I have some but I started over with this one
last thing i googled: where this one garden center near me is located bc I am babysitting lots of plants for the next month
do i get asks: not really, but feel free to ask me things if you want
why i chose my url: it’s a mishear of lyrics from the song “on the sea” by beach house. “Out on the sea we'd be forgiven, our bodies stop the spirit leaving, wouldn’t you like to know how far you’ve got left to go?” I thought it seemed poetic that our bodies stopped the spirit from living, like we are only mortal beings with limitations. Like the soul is more evolved but dumbed down by the mortal part of us. I picked that bc I feel like anonymous internet self gets to live more freely than irl form of me.
following: 108
followers: 66
average hours of sleep: 8 on a good day, but like 5 or 6 usually… I keep odd hours
lucky number: 13 - i’ve got this thought that since I was born on an unlucky day unlucky things are lucky for me
instruments: violin, mandolin, ukulele, I played mallet instruments in marching band in high school idk if that counts
what am i wearing: monty python Spamalot t-shirt and olive green pants
dream trip: start in France see paris, take the Chunnel to see London, and thennnnn take a plane to travel around ireland. Just hopping about Europe! Or Japan. I have relatives in Japan, but I wish I spoke the language so im holding off bc I want to learn Japanese.
favorite food: pasta in many different shapes and ways! It’s the versatility of it. Also cold pasta in the fridge is great snacking food.
nationality: American
last book i read: the last of us graphic novel American Dreams, but I am in the middle of reading “The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs: A New History of a Lost World" by Steve Brusatte.
top 3 fictional worlds I'd like to live in: the she-ra world would be pretty cool since there’s no homophobia and there’s magic, Skyrim bc I think the landscape is beautiful and magical, idk any magical place really i’m blanking on fictional worlds lol
favorite color: oscillates between purple and turquoise
If you are comfortable doing this that would be awesome! If you're not that's rad as well.
i think a lot of people were tagged with this but you can say i tagged you if you stumbled upon this and want to do it too!

2020… My Life… Everything Else Is Just Blurry…
Where to begin… I have been a type 2 diabetic since 2013. I got diabetes from excessive partying/drinking, originally. I continued to behave like this till June 2020. Granted, I wasn’t going as hard, in general, over the years, but each year and hardship I found myself going back to those old vices more frequently.
When the pandemic struck SWFL my drinking went up about 400%. No joke. I trained 4 days on and drank the other 3 days, hard. I did that from March to late June.
I caught Covid-19 around June 26th. By July 11th I needed to be hospitalized for Diabetic Ketoacidosis (where the body produces excess blood acids; ketones. This occurs when there isn't enough insulin in the body. It can be triggered by infection or other illness.) & Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas. It happens when digestive enzymes start digesting the pancreas itself.) I was in ICU for 36 hours and in the hospital for 5 days. I lost 21 lbs over that time.
3 days after I got home from the hospital, Macular Edema (blood vessels in the retina burst and bleed into the eyes), set in. That took about a month to heal only for Diabetic Retinopathy (those same blood vessels that burst heal and are inflamed).
Usually requires anti-inflammatory shots into the eye ball and laser surgery to burn away some of the excess scar tissue. These cost thousands of dollars without insurance, which I do not have. I have read that they can heal on their own, but it takes about 8-12 months. I am in month 4.
However, I actually cannot confirm if that statement about them healing on their own is actually true or not. Some notes in journals say yes while other, more creditable sites, say no. One must get treatment.
Now let me be clear that Covid-19 did not cause my Diabetic Ketoacidosis & Pancreatitis. My lack of proper care for my diabetes caused these. I was already in the yellow and when I got Covid-19 it just put me in the RED. I now, at this point, required medical care or I would die. Those are the facts about me getting Covid-19, my Diabetic Ketoacidosis & Pancreatitis…
Flash-Forward to now… I got my blood sugars down to near normal (high) levels. This means my blood sugar is still high, but for me, I used to walk around at 400. 500-600 is diabetic coma. 80-120 is considered normal. I walk around between 130-230, currently, fasted.
I have not had a drink since June 26th. I will never drink again. I can’t.
1) Alcohol has thoroughly ruined my adult life in all sorts of areas besides this. It got me sick to begin with among, other, things.
2) If I drink I could be back in the hospital with Diabetic Ketoacidosis & Pancreatitis, again.
3) I made a deal with GOD. If I have to live through this (I prayed to die that night) that I would never drink again.
What kind of dick lies to GOD lol? A decade ago I would have… I hated everything about the concept of GOD. Now, I have come to terms that if there is or there isn’t; it doesn’t matter. I value me, my beliefs. Why not carry myself with that respect. I do not need to tell or share my beliefs with others. I care not for such things.
I am solely worried about my mental, physical, emotional, sexual and spiritual health.
I did not quit drinking because of addiction issues or any of that business. I made the choice because if I didn’t my pancreas would fail and I would be dead in a few months. That is how bad my pancreas was… I do not see myself as someone that is doing all this for attention. I have barely even made mention of this whole story on my social media. I have told people in direct messages, but I do not post everything that is happening in my life on social media.
Granted this Tumblr account is considered social media, but I do not use it for that purpose. It is strictly for my BLOG entries. I do not follow people on Tumblr. I post, get my URL and share it that way. Its not in your face on Facebook or anything, but one can click the link and go read about the crazy things in my head.
Taking care of my mental, physical, emotional, sexual and spiritual health is a full time job in and of itself. Now, currently I cannot work. I can only drive during the day. I cannot see well enough to drive at night.
I have other medical issues stemming from this and it is quite the laundry list. However, I think I gave you all enough to think about.
I am back in great shape now. Since I quit drinking and got back from the hospital I went from 119 to 163 lbs. I have not been this big since 2012. Right before I believe my Diabetic State started. My strength is coming back with a vengeance too. I am putting up more weight than I have in nearly a decade.
I have had to make serious and big changes to EVERYTHING in my life.
My computer is now changed from dual 22 inch monitors to one 46 inch monitor. I have to make changes like this just to see well enough to do some things on the computer.
I am still very blind. My vision has decent days and some days I cannot see much of anything. I cannot see my phone without a magnifying glass. I just got my eyes looked at several times cause my power keeps shifting and now my current glasses setup does not exactly help much. My computer glasses are ok for this, but my normal bifocals are pretty useless.
However; I do feel like I can write a little bit more now. I have a few blogs I want to write and then go right back into the novel. This might be the only realistic possibility of me being able to work to earn my keep. Normal 9-5, Monday-Friday are out of the question, indefinitely.
Not only am I not well enough for the grind, physically. My mental health is very questionable. I have had issues for years now. I have had about 20 jobs in 15 years. I have done a real number on my mental health over the years. Always trying to do more, work harder than the next person so I can make that “good money” that some always throw in my face. I did the work. I put in the time, but only to be messed with. Yes, I have that sort of mental issue.
One tries to mess with me. Mess with the positive shit I am doing. I lose my head pretty quick. I have repeatedly demonstrated over the course of my life that I have no restraint at all when it comes to that feeling of being seriously fucked with and have them look at you like; “What are you gonna do about it?”
Well that is it… I always do something about it. Even when I know I shouldn’t. It is my worst impulsive trait that I cannot get a handle on. Ever since I was a kid. I wanna say. It started when I was 11 or so.
I have made huge strides in changing my life, my thinking and how I fit into the scheme of things. I have become more an introvert than an extrovert. Even before the pandemic I was going out less and less. Doing things less and less. It got to a point to where I only went out when I could drink and/or the band was playing. I was already becoming less social. So this is nothing overly drastic about that UNLESS you count Facebook activity.
I have not advertised much on my Facebook and for good reasons… I posted about my 6 months of sobriety and the responses I got were all about, pressing on and “the struggle.”
I pulled it down. There was no struggle here. I am not a keep on keepin’ on mannnnnn… Type of Personality… No… I quit drinking so I can live another 10-15, hopefully more, years. I just went through a friend dying from literally drinking himself to death. I know what people go through with their addiction struggles. I have my own reservations about how I feel about said subject matter.
Needless to say I did not appreciate how people view me on Facebook. I no longer post blogs their either. I post here on tumblr and put a link on my Facebook if anyone wants to read. That is about it.
I know people do not read more than a handful of sentences that ends with a weird hashtag or snapchat handle. I get it. It is also my fault because I have not told the Facebook wall/timeline of my mental and medical conditions and struggles. I reserve those conversations to be personal.
So if you want to know stuff, then let us get personal. Pretty much that simple. I do not do FAKE FRIENDS…
I try to be transparent. In the past it was easy, but now everyone has an opinion that they call facts. I do not know how many people I blocked on Facebook for being so damn ignorant or attention seeking.
I know I do not do attention seeking things. When I write it is with intention to say something. I would say 1600+ words on these subjects merits a little more than “attention seeking” behavior…
Things are looking up. I have done soooooooooo much. With so very little and make it look like I have a lot and that everything is fine. No. God Damnit… Everything is not fine. I am kicking ass trying to make something fine but not everything. Everything will never be FINE… Not ever. However, I can strive for it. I can continue to put in that work and just ignore the dumb shit. Which I am becoming pretty good at. I am still me. I am still blunt. If I rough feathers that is just my way of getting those people away from me.
Goodbye 2020… You will never be forgotten and your mark has definitely been left…

Does smoking make you dumb?
Perhaps the answer is ‘yes’. A paper by Gao et al. (2020) attempts to answer that question.
We identify a positive causal effect of healthy working environments on corporate innovation, using the staggered passage of U.S. state-level laws that ban smoking in workplaces. We find a significant increase in patents and patent citations for firms headquartered in states that have adopted such laws relative to firms headquartered in states without such laws. The increase is more pronounced for firms in states with stronger enforcement of such laws and in states with weaker preexisting tobacco controls. We present suggestive evidence that smoke-free laws affect innovation by improving inventor health and productivity and by attracting more productive inventors.
Also of interest, is legalizing marijuana likely to increase or decrease consumption of cigarettes? In other words, is marijuana and nicotine substitutes are complements. It turns out the answer is ‘complements’ according to Bhave and Murphy (2020):
We use multiple methods – difference-in-difference (DID) model as well as synthetic control methodology – to show that marijuana and cigarettes are complements and legalizing recreational marijuana is associated with an increase in cigarette consumption by about 4-7%. We check the robustness of our results using different dependent variables, placebo dates of intervention in the DID model, and placebo counties in the synthetic control method. In addition, we control for tobacco industry’s response to legalization such as price changes in cigarettes, and effects of increase in tourism due to legalization. Overall, we show that legalization of marijuana for recreational use may have significant spillover to increase in tobacco use that could lead to increased health care costs in future.

Google’s New Link Building Guidelines
email marketing agencies uk
In case you missed it, Google has just changed up the rules for link building.
It used to be that when people link to you, the link would either be a dofollow link or a nofollow link.
Well, that’s now changed.
They are now introducing 2 more link types that will affect SEOs.
Now before we get into the 2 new link types, make sure you read the whole post. Because not only will I explain Google’s requirements, but I will break down what this means for SEOs.
The current landscape
The current SEO landscape is simple… especially when it comes to link building.
The more dofollow (regular links) links you can get the better your search rankings.
If you are unsure of the number of links you have or the type, just go here and enter in your domain.
You’ll see a count of total backlinks along with the total amount of nofollow links pointing to your site.
Now, when you are link building, if you are paying for links or leveraging tactics like guest posting, Google wants you to nofollow those links because they don’t think you should be leveraging tactics like guest posting to manipulate rankings.
And as for buying links, you shouldn’t do that as it is a simple way to get penalized or banned from Google.
So don’t send emails like this if you are trying to build links… it’s a big no, no.
How does Google look at links?
Google’s algorithm is smart. Sure, they ideally want you to nofollow links if they are bought or not naturally earned (such as from guest posts), but many SEOs break the rules.
They aren’t going to say it publicly but they do these things. And because Google isn’t dumb, they also know.
Google can easily identify when a post on these big news sites aren’t earned because many of them have signs all over them that Google can detect.
For example, here is an example of a guest post from me.
Forbes, of course, uses nofollows links, but it wasn’t always that way.
Google can easily detect it is a guest post through verbiage on the page like “former contributor” or “guest contributor”.
And even if they didn’t label me as a guest contributor, Google can use other signals to figure out that this link shouldn’t be given much weight when it comes to SEO just by reading the URL structure of that article on Forbes.
Let’s take a closer look at the URL
https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilpatel/2016/12/26/my-biggest-regret-in-life-going-to-college/#5f74f3a91ac7
Do you see the big issue with the URL?
It’s clear that an author can have their own subsection on Forbes through the “site” folder structure. Now that doesn’t mean all “Forbes sites” are bad, but they clearly know which one is from staff writers because they are clearly marked.
Those signals (among others) that Google probably won’t disclose (nor should they) make it easy for Google to determine if a link is natural or earned.
If Google doesn’t want to count a link from a specific author, they can just ignore it on their end.
So, whether it is nofollowed or followed, on their end they can systematically control whether a link should help your rankings or if it shouldn’t.
As John Mueller from Google once said, in the context of bad links…
If we recognize them, we can just ignore them – no need to have you do anything in most cases.
Now keeping that in mind, here are the changes Google wants webmasters to make.
Google’s new link policy
If someone pays you for a link or you are buying a link, Google now wants you to mark it as sponsored. Not just in the text of the site, but more so through the link attribute:
Rel=”sponsored”
And if you build links through user-generated content, they want you to mark the links with the attribute:
Rel=”ugc”
The same goes for site owners. For example, if you have a forum on your site because the content is user generated, the links that people place should contain a rel=”ugc”.
You can still use the nofollow attribute or if you want you can use a combination of the above. For example, if you have a paid link you can use:
Rel=”nofollow sponsored”
So, what’s the purpose of this change?
Well, here is how Google puts it:
All the link attributes — sponsored, UGC and nofollow — are treated as hints about which links to consider or exclude within Search. We’ll use these hints — along with other signals — as a way to better understand how to appropriately analyze and use links within our systems.
Now if you are wondering what that means, Google is pretty much saying that adding these attributes will give them a better idea on if they should crawl the link or not. Or how they should analyze the link when it comes to indexing or SEO.
This change goes into effect March 1, 2020, and don’t worry because you don’t have to make modifications to your old links. The ones that were nofollow can just be left as nofollow.
And even in the future, if you decide to just use nofollow instead of “sponsored”, you’ll be fine.
What does all of this mean for SEOs?
As I mentioned earlier, I would provide my own insights and opinions on why Google is doing this.
We all know their algorithm is sophisticated and hard to game. But, just like any other algorithm or computer, it isn’t perfect.
By webmasters and SEOs labeling the type of links they are building and the purpose of them, it will make it easier for Google to learn how we use different link types and it will help their algorithms more quickly and easily identify link types and the context they are used in.
For example, if thousands of people use rel=”ugc” for links generated through guest posts, it may help train Google’s algorithm that these links were actually created by random people instead of the webmaster and they should be discounted.
Of course, Google already can identify wikis, forum, and other types of user-generated content, but this helps them tighten things up and make things more accurate.
They can also decide to take a more relaxed stance on certain link types. For example, maybe they will decide to count UGC links when it comes to link building, but they may decide to only give it 1/3rd the weight of a naturally earned link.
In addition to that, this also provides them with more signals on if the URL linked to should be potentially crawled or ignored.
But in the long run, as their algorithm becomes more accurate, it’s safe to say that the real solution to winning is putting the user first.
Their goal isn’t to rank a site at the top that has “perfect SEO”. They want to rank the site that people love the most.
Hence, you’ll want to focus on creating an amazing user experience, building a great product/service, creating mindblowing content, and anything else your competition isn’t doing.
As for link building though, links will always be hard to come by, so they will be part of their algorithm for the foreseeable future. And as the data shows, there is a strong correlation between links and rankings.
So one thing I would recommend is that you build as many links as possible, even if they are user-generated links. As long as they are from relevant sites, the referral traffic can generate you sales or leads. And if Google starts placing some value on these user-generated links, it can help boost your rankings.
Now that doesn’t mean you should go out to forums and spam your link everywhere. It means you should go find all of the user-generated content sites, provide a ton of value, AND ONLY IF IT MAKES SENSE, add a link back to your site when it benefits the reader.
Conclusion
Over the next year or so you’ll see adjustments in how SEOs build links.
First off you’ll start seeing companies like Ahrefs and the SEMrush show you nofollow, dofollow, UGC, and sponsored backlinks. This one change will help SEOs build better links and spend their effort on the links that actually help with rankings.
Secondly, my hunch is UGC links will eventually carry some weight. Probably not a ton, but more than 0 as long as they are from relevant sites, the link is within context and it provides value to the end-user.
And lastly, most webmasters probably won’t use sponsored or UGC attributes anytime soon. It will probably take another year before they really catch on, which means for now you will just have to focus your efforts on dofollow links.
So, what do you think about the new change?

When It Comes to a Recipe, What’s in a Name?
Back in May, the response was swift when Milk Bar's Christina Tosi uploaded a video of what she called her "flaky bread." Instagram commenters quickly pointed out that the unleavened rounds were essentially South Asia's paratha by another name, while Tosi's recommendation to add scallions might also call to mind a riff on Chinese scallion pancakes. With neither mentioned in Tosi's description, critics on social media saw the dish as another food industry whitewashing gaffe. But this wasn't the first time "flaky bread" caused problems online.
In 2014, Bon Appétit posted a similar dish. Developed by Alison Roman, that "flaky bread" recipe was simple, accompanied by no context besides a quick prep tip in the headnote. As with Tosi's recipe, keen observers homed in on its similarity to paratha, and by May 2020, readers had begun weighing in with comments like: "Not a single mention of where this food comes from or the people that have been making it forever? This is literally just paratha." By June 2020, BA had changed the recipe's name to "Flaky Bread (Malawah)" and expanded its headnote to state that it was based on a Yemeni dish.
All over the world, different cultures have developed flaky rounds of dough—from paratha, to malawah, to cong you bing, and certainly more. That's something you'd never know from a name like "flaky bread," as accurate as it may be. Flaky bread can come from many cultures rich in culinary history; "flaky bread," meanwhile, suggests no culture in particular.
As the online recipe space grows more competitive, the names of a world's worth of dishes morph. Avgolemono becomes the New York Times' "egg lemon soup," "lemony egg soup with escarole," or "slow cooker creamy chicken soup with lemon, rice, and dill." Roti gains new life as "whole wheat balloon bread" or "Asian flat croissant," and "Korean rice bowls" are a longer, more Westernized way of saying bibimbap. "Spicy chocolate milk simmered chicken" becomes a new phrase for mole, and chana masala is revised as Alison Roman's "spiced chickpea stew with coconut and turmeric," which internet colloquialism transforms into just "The Stew." What's to be gained by changing a dish's name? But also, what's lost?
What we call a dish can either ground it in a particular culinary history, or it can remove a dish from that culture entirely. With translation comes a level of separation, as the idea of a dish's audience is shifted; calling roti a "balloon bread" or bibimbap a "rice bowl" is a choice to appeal to a specific sensibility. As platforms diversify their selection of recipes, each one is trying to sell you on dishes it assumes you don't already know how to make, and every online recipe aims to make an argument for why you should rely on it above all others. To make that case, food is packaged for "mainstream" consumption: Ideally, anyone should want to click on it.
As Eric Kim—the recipe developer and writer behind the "Table for One" column at Food52—works on his debut cookbook about Korean American food, he's been thinking about recipe names. Kim's book, currently scheduled for release in spring 2022, will be informed by his Korean background, Georgia upbringing, and his approach to pantry cooking. Writing through its recipes, some of which lean conventional and others that are entirely new, Kim finds himself repeatedly changing their names.
"It's such an interesting question because a lot of these dishes are traditional—traditional bulgogi, for instance, or traditional kalbi—and I almost don't want to call them that, but calling them 'soy-marinated short ribs' feels flattening or disregarding their inspiration. I feel like this is something I've grappled with as recipe author, but also as a food editor, for years," Kim told VICE. He's found welcome inspiration in Priya Krishna's Indian-ish, which uses names like "spinach and feta, cooked like saag paneer" to find the middle ground between innovation and tradition.
Writing recipes for the internet poses a particular challenge: Like every piece of content in the digital world, recipes must pull in readers through the quickest glance. Terms or names that are assumed to be unfamiliar might be replaced with something more widely recognizable and immediately comprehensible, and trending phrases get thrown in for the sake of appealing to what people are searching (think "bread without yeast" during the baking-crazed days of the pandemic). More and more, algorithms shape how content is presented online, and search engine optimization (SEO) dictates the best practices for giving a website a chance at ranking high in a Google search for a specific keyword. As UCLA professor Safiya Noble has explored in the book Algorithms of Oppression, even search engines can be subject to cultural bias in ways that privilege whiteness.
Casey Markee is the founder of Media Wyse and an SEO consultant who works exclusively in the food, DIY, and lifestyle space. Acknowledging that unconscious bias can play out in everything, he thinks that the renaming of recipes might be done to gain an advantage in the crowded food space. Anglicized names might have more visibility online due to less competition and more search interest for that particular term, he suggested. People creating recipes online may think: "My audience might not understand what this original name is, but maybe they understand the more English or Anglicized version here, and that's what I'm gonna focus on," he said. The idea of accessibility, however, should also prompt the question: accessible to whom?
On The Sofrito Project, blogger Reina Gascon-Lopez takes a different approach to food media's usual centering as she presents recipes for Puerto Rican dishes as well as what she grew up eating in Charleston. Puerto Rican dishes are named in Spanish, with English left in parentheses: "berenjena guisada (stewed eggplant)" or "asopao de gandules (pigeon pea rice stew)," for example. "I honestly try to stick with the traditional name for the recipes, particularly the Puerto Rican dishes," she told VICE, "because honestly... naming them something that would be more palatable for white mainstream media, I feel like that kind of takes away from the dish, at least in my opinion."
Anglicizing a recipe's name can be done out of a sense of making it "neutral" and therefore "mainstream," but as we know from the recent conversations around race in media and other industries, that version of objective neutrality is actually a stance centered on whiteness. The idea that a dish can be rendered culturally neutral still relies on the construction of a culture: one for whom "flaky bread" is assumed as more appealing and recognizable than its alternatives.
White, vaguely European-influenced food is positioned as such a default in modern American culture that it exists without being explicitly stated, as Navneet Alang deconstructed for Eater. "Only whiteness can deracinate and subsume the world of culinary influences into itself and yet remain unnamed," he wrote. With this guiding food media, figures like Alison Roman—who at the peak of Stew fame once described herself as coming from "no culture"—can then pick and profit from global culinary traditions without ever tying herself to one.
While white food culture can weave in and out of global inspirations and not lose anything, the reverse isn't true. Dishes from cultures outside the white American norm and the people who make them are made less visible, told they don't draw as many views, relegated to trend pieces, and subjected to quotas.
The appeasement of translation can seem like a self-fulfilling prophecy: If people aren't given the word "bibimbap," if it's called a "Korean rice bowl" instead, will the original term ever enter "mainstream" parlance? Food publications have the power to steer the conversation for readers and home cooks; suggesting that a dish's traditional name is too complicated or unfamiliar to include is a cop-out for platforms that dictate these trends.
"It all goes back to the othering of food, and readers are only as smart as the information they're given," said Rebecca Firkser, a freelance food writer and recipe developer. Since her official start in food media five years ago as an intern at PopSugar, which led to becoming culinary editor of the now-defunct Extra Crispy, Firkser thinks people have overall become more knowledgeable about food and cooking. "I do feel like readers are smarter; they're interested in the real dishes, and so, why do we bother dumbing it down for them?"
In their staff roles at large food publications, Firkser and Kim—who have worked together on recipes at Food52—told VICE that SEO has been a consideration in the recipe process. But according to Kim, Google is "a lot smarter than people realize," and its algorithm changes all the time. "You don't have to have to bludgeon the title with some straightforward whitewashed title just to get it to show up on Google," he said. Whether it's putting keyword phrases in different parts of the page or in the URL, "there are ways to do it without disintegrating the integrity of the actual title."
But naming a dish the way it's historically known and loved isn't a panacea, either, as tradition creates a tight box of expectations. As Gascon-Lopez pointed out, her Puerto Rican dishes have at times garnered responses that her recipe isn't how a commenter's family made it, or how they make the dish. She clarifies that even traditional recipes are her version, as dictated by the ingredients available to her in South Carolina. "I do find that there is a little bit of a line to walk when I call something by the traditional name, and I don't have something that's been in that dish for years," she said.
Thankfully, Gascon-Lopez's blog gives her flexibility. While she said it sounds "crazy" as a food blogger, she doesn't consider SEO very much. "I try to stay aware of how I need the recipe [to be] from the aspect of accessibility on the blog, and I try to keep it short and keep the title tight. But other than that, if it's in Spanish, it's going to be in Spanish," Gascon-Lopez said. "That's something that I'm willing to sacrifice to stay true to my style of cooking."
So what's the answer to fixing all of this? Multiple recipe developers told VICE that presenting a recipe online comes with a responsibility to do ample research. With constant cooking comes the ability to riff in the kitchen, but even still, said Firkser, a recipe developer should go the extra step, even if it seems like a dish just popped up in your head. The act of putting a recipe on a public platform implies authority, and while there's leeway for modification in individual cooking, the recipe itself is perceived as objective—the standard from which one can then diverge.
"Even if I independently was thinking like, What would be yummy to eat? A white bean and tomato soup with tiny pasta," Firkser said, "I would search the internet, search cookbooks, and see: Have other people have done this—white bean and tomato soup with tiny pasta? Oh, wow, looks like there is a dish, and it's called pasta fagioli and I'm going to acknowledge that."
At Food52, Kim takes a generalist approach, creating dishes like "beef short rib bourguignon with garlicky panko gremolata" and "chicken-fried steak katsu with milk gravy." When he cooks from cuisines outside his culture, Kim tries to be "as responsible as possible," he said, by citing inspirations and adding context in the headnote as to how he learned the techniques. "Coming from an academic perspective is a way to make sure you close the loops and honor every possible inspiration for a dish," he said, "and that's one way to make sure that you're avoiding any semblance of tokenization or appropriation."
With the racial inequity in food media, we frequently return to the question of who gets to profit from other cultures' foods; it is still often the case that globally inspired dishes are presented by white recipe developers. Following Bon Appétit's organizational reckoning over these exact issues, the publication has announced plans to not only address its pay disparities and lack of staffers of color, but also to re-envision its content to better address cultural biases. As part of this push into the future, the magazine's research director Joseph Hernandez announced in a newsletter last month that he would be working with Test Kitchen editors to "address many of these problems of authorship, appropriation, the white gaze, and erasure."
Referencing its past controversies regarding flaky bread, "white guy" kimchi, pho, and Filipino halo-halo, Hernandez wrote that BA "has been called out for appropriation, for decontextualizing recipes from non-white cultures, and for knighting 'experts' without considering if that person should, in fact, claim mastery of a cuisine that isn’t theirs." In response, "our team will be auditing previously published recipes and articles that may not have been thoroughly fact-checked or read for cultural sensitivity when originally authored," he announced. Addressing the most popular recipes first, the publication will add context and address past problems in editors' notes: "Do we give credit where it’s due? Did we properly credit our inspirations, or did we shoehorn in a trendy ingredient with no explanation?"
There's no clear-cut answer on how to handle recipe names, as each recipe developer has their own perspective. As tidy as it may seem for recipes to exclusively come from authors of that specific cultural background, no one person can stand-in for an entire culture's culinary history, and that approach is unrealistic in a media landscape in which there are many, many more writers than there are jobs. Further, that set of rules also ignores the ways culinary traditions meld both naturally and by force. Despite those constraints, we can at least push for more thoughtful and contextual approaches to recipe development—ones that respect the interplay between cultures, instead of stripping foods from their histories.
As recipe developers broaden the context they provide with dishes, home cooks can in turn become more conscious consumers if they choose to engage with that added knowledge. "I absolutely think it's the responsibility of the recipe developer to do that extra research, because it's only gonna help someone," Firkser said. "I don't think anyone's ever been bitten in the ass for doing the homework, right?"
