Rare LHD: 1965 Bristol 409
It is already a rare British car in itself, as only 74 were built (according to Wikipedia), but far fewer are LHDs like this one. It is certainly a car purchased new in the USA with the lhd specification, at a very high price as, according to the seller, it cost $12,000 at the time, equivalent to $116,000 today, so it was a high-end car in an era in which high-end customers were much fewer than…

1963 Dodge 330 Max Wedge
Dad’s Drag Car: 1963 Dodge 330 Max Wedge image: http://barnfinds.com/.../1963-Dodge-330-Max-Wedg1963...
Holy Max Wedge! Now this is what I call a rare and incredible find! If you don’t know what the Dodge 330 Max Wedge is, it’s the ultimate Mopar sleeper. Dodge took the basic B-body 330 and crammed a 426 cui V8 under the hood. Now this one doesn’t have the normal street going 426 Wedge, but the track ready Max Wedge! For those that don’t know their Wedgies the Max came in two trim levels, 415 and 425 horsepower. This one as purchased new by the seller’s father, who bought it to go drag racing. It’s been with the family ever since, but their father passed away and it’s time for it to go to a home where it can be restored to its former glory.
1963 Dodge 330 Max Wedge
So this car has quite the history. The original owner bought it to take racing, but shortly after getting it, they decided 415 horsepower just wasn’t good enough. So they had it upgraded to the “stage 2” level, bringing power up to 425! They also had the floor shift manual swapped out for a 727 automatic. The manual is long gone, but the 727 is still with the car.
1963 Dodge 330 Max Wedge
It was raced that way for a few years, but eventually the seller’s mom needed it to be her daily driver. To make it streetable, the 426 was swapped out for a 360. Thankfully, the Max Wedge was retained and is sitting in the engine bay again!
1963 Dodge 330 Max Wedge
How cool is it that you could walk into your local dealership and order an 11 second dragster just as easily as ordering a family sedan? Talk about a great era for the automobile! These cars really are amazing and incredibly fast even by today’s standards. This one needs plenty of work, but the seller has some spare parts for it that are included and when will you ever find another genuine Max Wedge?

Our civilization, having reached a sort of immovable object, is starting to get real weird about old stuff. Whereas once old things were simply garbage, now they are jealously guarded, eagerly sought after, meticulously reconditioned, and worshipped. Maybe this is because we can’t make good new stuff, or maybe it speaks to a deeper desire of our entire society to revert to childhood. Either way, a lot of rich assholes have been coming by to scope out my cars.
At some point in the last few decades, “guy with a lot of old Mopars” went from being a mental health crisis to an investment bank. Even the craggiest, nastiest shreds of corroded unibody can haul in big bucks if they have the right VIN plate attached to them. Once acquired, boffo-moneyed collectors will pay an army of experts to restore these cars to showroom condition, then take them to shows where they will sell them to other boffo-moneyed collectors for eye-watering sums.
Naturally, this means that aspiring rich people have been making offers to move some of that “old garbage” out of my back yard, front yard, neighbour’s yard, alley, adjacent alley, and the eight-storey parking garage downtown that I won in a bet and don’t pay the property taxes on, because my attorney does enough ex-Soviet amphetamines to play a dozen simultaneous grandmaster-level chess entirely inside his mouth. Those offers are not particularly generous, or even good, and even if they were, I wouldn’t honour them. After all, if some dipshit with an MBA wants to pay me as much as six thousand dollars for a 1980 Dodge Diplomat that consists mostly of to-do list entries, that must mean they’re getting rare. And if they’re getting rare, I should hold onto all five of mine just in case I need parts in the future.
One of these days, though, someone is going to make a good offer. And then my backyard will be emptied of all these expensive Malaise Era shit-boxes that I love so much. What will I buy with all that money? Dunno. Maybe a backyard full of Ferraris? I hear they break all the time.

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Drag Car Unearthed
By Dave Ashton
Since its launch in 1969, the Dodge Challenger Muscle Car has made a huge impact on the American auto scene, from its powerful engines and fast acceleration times to its flashy colors. It even took on the track at the Trans-Am Championship, paving the way for the limited-edition Challenger T/A model. After decades in hiding, the pearl white Challenger is up and running again and boasts an incredible 426 HEMI V8 engine from the original 440cu V8.
Restoring a vintage Dodge Challenger isn’t easy, especially if you aim to stay as close to period correct as possible. Luckily, Kelly, Ziggy Wyso’s granddaughter, and her husband have done just that. The 426 HEMI V8 they chose for their project was sourced from another 1970 Mopar vehicle, making it an authentic part of the Challenger’s muscle car era. As such, it’s quite a rare commodity since only 875 Challengers were fitted with the 440 Four Barrel, 296 with the 440 Six Pack and 60 with the 426 HEMI – all in the year 1970.
From the outside, this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T looks as good as it did back during its racing days. With its custom hood scoop, huge wheels and half vinyl top, not to mention the black snake skin patterned stripes, the car stands out from the crowd. That said, the interior still remains mostly stock, with the exception of the missing rear seats.
It’s clear that Kelly and her husband have poured their hearts into their project, and their Dodge Challenger Muscle Car is now a shining example of what can be done with a classic. It’s no surprise that many are drawn to its beautiful form and incredible engine, both of which make it the perfect ride for cruising the streets or hitting the drag strip. Check it out for yourself in the video below and see why this Dodge Challenger is one of the most desirable models out there.
The restored Challenger is truly a sight to behold, and its power and performance are even more impressive. Thanks to the HEMI V8, the car can reach speeds of up to 150 mph, making it a formidable force on the track. The car is also equipped with a four-speed transmission, Dana 60 rear axle, and heavy-duty suspension, making it a unique ride among Mopar enthusiasts.
The Challenger still has a few small details that need to be addressed before it’s back to its original state, but Kelly and her husband are determined to keep the restoration correct and true to the car’s spirit. It’s clear that this duo has put a lot of effort and love into the project, and it has certainly paid off.
The Dodge Challenger Muscle Car is a true classic, and it’s easy to see why it has gained such a large fan base over the years. Its powerful engines, muscular good looks and limitless possibilities make it a truly unique ride that will continue to fascinate enthusiasts for years. For those lucky enough to have one, there’s no doubt that each Challenger has its own special story – and Kelly and her husband’s story is certainly a memorable one.

Dwayne Fietzer @joy_rd_hot_rods will be bringing this original 426 Max-Wedge 1963 Polara for Mopar Alley in November. This car has had only two owners. His father bought it new from Ed Carpenter Dodge in Wayne Michigan. His Dad worked at Dearborn Steel Tubing where the thunderbolts and a lot of great Ford performance cars came from. So, they weren’t exactly happy seeing his black 63 MaxWedge car sitting in the parking lot, but he was the head painter, so it sat up front. Around 1980 his parents got divorced and his father tried selling the car, but nobody was really interested in it at the time. His Dad was asking $3,100 for it! Thankfully, his father was too attached to it so it went back into storage. Dwayne went over to his fathers house one day somewhere around 1994 and his father was pushing it from one garage to another with a tire strapped to the front of his truck and nobody steering & complaining the whole time, so Dwayne told him "I’ll be right back" . Dwayne went home and got his trailer and he has owned the car ever since. Dwayne restored the car in early 2000’s, then like his Father he started a family so the car really hasn’t been out much in the last decade. He recently freshened up the motor it -had a bad freeze plug and some rust in one of the bores but other than that the car has 99.9 percent of the original interior. He painted the car and he also duplicated from the original exhaust which he still has a 3-inch stainless exhaust and a fresh set of cheater slicks. The car shows 15,000 miles on it, but his dad had put a 4:89 gear in it so the speedo is almost doing double. He has all the paperwork from the order sheet to truck driver delivery at the dealer. Fun Family Story! Collector cars arent just pieces of metal, they are memories, they are connections to loved ones, they are treasured! See it and 500 more cars with stories at MCACN Nov 23 & 24, 2024.

This 1976 Bradley GT is turbine-powered. Unlike the Mopar machine, however, which used step-down gearing and a TorqueFlite to transmit the turbine’s power to the tires, this Bradley uses the turbine’s more traditional jet thrust to move the car. That’s just like Maverick in Top Gun!
Providing that thrust is a Boeing 502-11B, a versatile turbojet engine that was originally intended for use in things like helicopters, aircraft starting compressors, and other non-automotive applications. According to the ad, this one runs without issue and has recently had its fuel system serviced. The Boeing service manual will be included with the sale for future wrenching needs.
The seller touts that the engine produces around 350 SHP (shaft horsepower), which they claim has taken the car to 60 miles per hour in a parking lot test run. They also say that it is very loud.
Other issues with this jet-powered car include a total lack of the ability to back up, seeing as there are no thrust reversers on the engine, and the lack of street-ability, as apparently the brake lights are presently non-functioning. On the plus side, once made street legal, it would easily dissuade even the most aggressive of tailgaters.
Under the open-top Bradley body lies what is described as a restored VW Beetle platform. The GT rides on the stock VW wheelbase, so no cutting was required in the transformation from People’s Car to Jet Fighter. The brakes and steering are said to work as they should, respectively, stopping and turning the car. No word is given about how the electrical system is maintained, but it should be an important factor as the 502’s startup and monitoring are handled through a dash-mounted electronic touch screen.
Everything on the car appears to be in perfectly serviceable shape, with decent-looking BF Goodrich tires underpinning along with shiny paint on its fiberglass body. The latter announces the engine by way of some spoiler and fender graphics. Those are likely rendered redundant by the cacophony of when the engine is running.
There is no title as it’s not really a road car but more of a home-built toy. Could it be titled? Sure, I guess. It also could have some sort of electric motor and battery set up added so it could actually run on the road without having to use the jet and make the neighborhood smell like a runway. But who would be brave enough to tackle this crazy jet-powered car as it sits?
I guess, and perhaps more importantly, who would do so AND could come up with the $18,900 asking price required to do so?
What’s your take on this turbine-powered toy and that $18,900 price? Does that seem like a deal to live in the Jet Age? Or is that price tag just as crazy as the car?
This is purloined in its entirety from Jalopnik

No need for an RV with these great camping cars

No need for an RV with these great camping cars
Consider this the summer in limbo, and not just because we have to bend over backwards to make any plans at all. With summer plans scrambled due to the coronavirus pandemic and more Americans wary of airline travel and hotel stays, it’s time to restore that timeless American adventure and hit the road.
It won’t take an RV or a vacation rental to explore America’s national treasures while still maintaining distance from other Americans. Camping requires some gear—glamping requires an excess—but our list of camper-ready vehicles come from the factory ready for adventure.

2021 Chrysler Pacifica, 2020 Chicago Auto Show
2021 Chrysler Pacifica, 2020 Chicago Auto Show
The versatile family hauler can become a cabin on wheels if the weather becomes unbearable. Available now in all-wheel drive, the 2021 Pacifica comes with second- and third-row seats that fold into the floor (the hybrid model does not come with second-row Stow ‘N Go seats). Other vans have heavy, removable seats that become a pain in a pinch, such as during that surprise hail storm or when that shrill animal cry gets closer. And closer. With 140.5 cubic feet of space behind the front seats and room enough to fit four-by-eight sheets of plywood, the Pacifica could fit a full-sized inflatable mattress with just a little squeezing on the side. If that’s not enough space, it can tow up to 3,600 pounds (when a $995 towing package is equipped), good enough to tow everything from recreational toys to small travel trailers.

2020 Subaru Outback
2020 Subaru Outback
2020 Subaru Outback
The poster child for the outdoorsman, the predecessor to the do-it-all SUV, the Swiss army knife of cars, the Sultan of Swat, the King of Crash, the Colossus of Clout—you get it, even if you’ve never seen “The Sandlot” or visited Colorado. The Outback is all grown up, and handles suburban outings with the same capability as back-country romps. The low, wide, flat floor, and wide door openings make loading and unloading gear a cinch, and dogs love jumping in and out. Collapsible roof racks with tie downs come standard, as does all-wheel drive and a slew of safety features. Available water-repellent interiors, skid plates, a trailer hitch with 3,500-pound towing capacity and so many aftermarket roof-top tent options make this classic as modern as ever. And it’s the only vehicle on our list that can answer the call of the wild with efficient urban driving.
2020 Honda Ridgeline
2017 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition
2018 Honda Ridgeline
2018 Honda Ridgeline
Any pickup truck could make our list, but since the Ridgeline shares a platform with the Honda Pilot crossover SUV, it’s the smoothest-riding pickup and our pick for an impromptu camper. The truck bed extends from 64 inches to 83 inches with the tailgate down, which is long enough to be a makeshift bed in a pinch. With 50 inches across, a twin mattress could fit, or a full-size could get squeezed by the wheel wells. If not being used as a pillow, the dual-action tailgate swings out to the left for easier bed access and a clever floor locker can double as a cooler. A truck-bed audio system on the RTL-E trim sweetens the deal, and an available bed extender or roof-mounted bike carrier means you can bring along the toys. There are some pretty sweet aftermarket tents that extend over the bed, as well.
2020 Jeep Gladiator

2020 Jeep Gladiator
2020 Jeep Gladiator
Jeep’s mid-size pickup truck, or the Wrangler with a bed, offers all the capability of a Wrangler with the added versatility of a pickup that can tow up to 7,650 pounds. And you can take off the roof and doors for a night under the stars. For off-roaders, the long wheelbase limits its breakover angle compared to the Wrangler, though there are few places that would worry the Gladiator. The 5-foot steel cargo bed might not be the best for sleeping, but the available Trail Rail system with a 115-volt AC outlet and all the Mopar parts means you can equip the Gladiator in a way that tells others: “I’ll sleep when I die.”
2020 Dodge Durango SRT
2018 Dodge Durango SRT first drive
2018 Dodge Durango SRT first drive
2020 Dodge Durango SRT
As much as we love the performance from the 475-hp 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 in the Durango SRT, we prize the three-row SUV here for its towing capacity of up to 8,700 pounds ($1,195 package required), which is the most for any SUV not based on a truck. That’s good enough to tow some 30-foot travel trailers, and when you unhitch it at the campsite you can cruise around the local sights with gusto. Or find a straight to hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Careful on arriving at the campground late or leaving early; the unabashed V-8 rumble might cause your neighbors to enact social distancing in a much more hostile way. It seats six, too, with comfy buckets in the first two rows, so if you had to sleep in the car, you could recline and cocoon yourself in blankets or catch a flick on the rear entertainment center ($1,995). That’s not really camping but at least you’re out of the house.
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser
It doesn’t matter that this three-row SUV is nearly old enough to get its own driver’s license, the Land Cruiser is beloved the world over for its rugged capability and SUV versatility. The 381-hp V-8 and truck frame give this heavy 4×4 the kind of off-road confidence expected in a truck but with a boxy body. It seats eight but no one will be happy about that. The third row can never get out of its own way, however, even if it’s split and swung out to rest against the wall. The off-road ready Heritage Edition deletes the third row to seat five, and comes with a mega roof rack coveted by posers and brozers alike. Options are limited but tow hooks, skid plates, mud-and-snow tires, a split liftgate/tailgate, and an integrated hitch capable of towing 8,100 pounds come standard. What it lacks in interior refinement and features, the Land Cruiser makes up for in bona fide go-anywhere capability. It’s not the roomiest if you need to crash in it overnight, but there are so many aftermarket accessories and roof-top tents you may never need to.
2020 Land Rover Defender
2020 Land Rover Defender
2020 Land Rover Defender, 2019 LA Auto Show
2020 Land Rover Defender, 2019 LA Auto Show
Land Rover might be the only brand with an off-road reputation on par with the Land Cruiser, and the return of the boxy Defender two- or four-door SUV puts the British brand firmly back in the bush. Thick bumpers, big wheels, heavy cladding, and a tailgate-mounted spare belie the blend of luxury and rugged finishes found inside, such as a touchscreen, alpine lights, and exposed rivets. The Defender X off-road model has locking center and rear differentials, and all Defenders come with four-wheel drive and 11.5-inches of ground clearance, which is nearly an inch more than a Wrangler. An available jump seat could let you sit three up front to get the best shots on safari, and other options such as a 1.7-gallon water reservoir for cleaning off muddy pets or shoes, an electric winch, or roof and side carriers let you customize your outback adventure. The various “packs” are almost as cool as the Defender itself; the Adventure Pack comes with a seat backpack and integrated air compressor.
2022 Volkswagen Microbus
Volkswagen ID Buzz electric bus concept with 1964 VW Microbus
Like the Defender, the Bus is back. Almost. And when it arrives for 2022 as the ID Buzz or the Electric Bus or whatever it’s going to be called, it will be an all-electric van. Little is known about the reboot of the 60s counterculture icon except that it will be a key part of Volkswagen Group’s plans to build 27 different electric vehicles across all brands. Since most established campgrounds have electricity, finding one with EV chargers is getting easier. Ride on, plug in, drop out.

Alfa romeo thermostat housing Uses?
The Alfa Romeo thermostat housing is a crucial component of the vehicle's cooling system. It is responsible for housing the thermostat, which regulates the flow of coolant through the engine to maintain optimal operating temperatures. The thermostat housing plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of the engine and preventing overheating or damage.
When it comes to replacing the thermostat housing in an Alfa Romeo, there are several options available on the market. Various manufacturers offer replacement thermostats and components designed to meet the OEM specifications and provide a reliable solution for Alfa Romeo owners. Some notable brands in the market include iD Select, Gates, MotoRad, Beck Arnley, Mopar, and DIY Solutions.
iD Select offers engine coolant thermostats and failsafe engine coolant thermostats as direct OEM replacements. These products are built to OEM specifications and ensure the same fit, form, and function as the original factory part. They are designed to deliver excellent quality, reliability, and value.
Gates provides engine coolant OE type thermostats and premium thermostats. Their thermostats are developed with meticulous attention to detail and manufactured from high-quality materials. Gates emphasizes the importance of quality control and factory calibration to ensure the accuracy of opening and closing, regardless of pressure changes. DIY Solutions offers an engine coolant thermostat kit that is designed to help restore vehicles to their former glory. The kit provides a quick replacement solution for Alfa Romeo owners looking to bring their vehicles back to optimal condition. The focus is on quality and ensuring customer satisfaction.
It is important to select the appropriate thermostat housing for your specific Alfa Romeo model and engine variant. Compatibility and fitment should be confirmed to ensure proper installation and optimal performance. Consulting with a qualified mechanic or referring to the vehicle's service manual can help in identifying the correct thermostat housing for your Alfa Romeo.
In addition to the information obtained from the internet, it is worth noting that the thermostat housing mentioned in another online discussion forum specifically relates to the Alfa Romeo 164 model. The discussion indicates that the housing provided in the forum is not suitable for a 164 engine in a 164 chassis. Therefore, it is essential to ensure the compatibility of the thermostat housing with the specific Alfa Romeo model and engine configuration.
In summary, the Alfa Romeo thermostat housing is a critical component of the cooling system. Several reputable manufacturers offer replacement thermostats and components designed to meet OEM specifications. It is crucial to choose a compatible housing for your Alfa Romeo model and engine variant to ensure proper fitment and optimal performance. Consulting with a professional or referring to the vehicle's service manual can help in selecting the appropriate thermostat housing for your specific Alfa Romeo model.
