there’s so many ppl enabling me in the notes of this post, so here enjoy some Thoughts i’ve had about the nurseydex maine road trip so far:
they do a road trip up the coast of maine over fall break their senior year so that nursey can see acadia national park while the leaves are changing
william “acts of service” poindexter decides that it is his Responsibility as nursey’s captain and fellow d-man to become maine’s official tour guide barbie. he plans the entire thing out and even prints them little itineraries and maps and shit because this boy is nothing is not Efficient
nursey makes them stop to see every single lighthouse they go anywhere near just to be a little shit (there are 65 lighthouses in maine, this would take So Long even if you just stopped at like a quarter of them)
the only canonical reference i could find for any actual locations in maine in the comic is that dex said his uncle who owned the lobster fishing boat he worked on over the summers lived in portland
(a side note to the above, i find this hilarious. portland is an pretty solidly liberal urban city - imagine a very small boston - and not somewhere you’re very likely to find small family-owned lobster fishing boats, at least in my experience. it would make way more sense for his uncle to live somewhere like rockland but i digress)
dex is 100% positive that nursey would Love portland so he carves out two whole days of their trip for them to stay with his uncle and explore. they go to the art museum and old port and the port head lighthouse and the top of the world lookout at fort sumner park and all the little shops and hidden places dex had found from living there every summer for years
nursey does end up loving portland but it might be more about the boy that shows it to him
even though his uncle lives in portland, i am still personally convinced that dex’s family mostly lives around the rockland area. i will go on a rant about nursey meeting dex’s close family another time, but while they’re in rockland, nursey continues his dedication to seeing all the lighthouses he can by forcing dex to make the almost mile long trek out to the breakwater lighthouse with him (don’t think about them standing alone next to this little building almost a mile out from land. the wind is chilly and strong and it makes dex’s hair look ridiculous and his cheeks flush and nursey definitely doesn’t want to kiss him ITS FINE ITS CHILL)
dex has them make a detour up to bangor and surprises nursey with going to see stephen king’s house. he doesnt understand why people are interested in looking at some dudes house At All but he does know nursey would love it so he does it anyways. the fence is cool and nursey gets so excited he almost face plants jumping out of the car, so dex counts it as a success
some random places i feel like dex would make them stop at along the way: freeport (nursey is both so confused and so delighted by just Everything about that place, but he loses his mind over the mcdonald’s and the ll bean outlet), ogunquit (dex purposefully takes highway 1 instead of the maine turnpike going towards portland so that they drive through ogunquit and he can see nursey’s face when he realizes they’re driving through the single gayest town he’s ever seen in his life and it’s in southern maine), moose point state park (there are a billion lil state parks in maine but i just randomly like this one in particular idk i think it’s cute), camden hills state park (it’s too foggy when they get there to drive up to the top so nursey makes them go on a hike instead so they didn’t “waste their time.” they get lost within like 10 minutes and are wet from the fog by the time they make it back to the car like 2 hours later), the desert of maine (it’s kinda boring to dex bc he’s seen it a dozen times since he was a kid, but nursey gets enthralled by the science behind it so it’s worth it), cushing (this is where the famous painter andrew wyeth lived at the olson house and was the subject of a lot of his work and i just feel like nursey would have fun seeing this place)
when they eventually make it to acadia, nursey ends up spending like two solid hours just sitting at sargent peak staring out over everything and desperately scrawling out lines of poetry into his notebook (dex spends most of those 2 hours staring at nursey but somehow doesn’t notice that nursey definitely isn’t writing about the scenery)
#im thinking about legitimately writing this out but hoo boy it'd end up being so long#will anyone actually see this? no probably not but it was fun to get it out of my head lol#lmk if any of you want me to add pics of these places so you have reference for wtf im talking about without having to google everything#nurseydex#derek nurse#william poindexter#omgcp#nurseydex maine roadtrip au

Tears of the Kingdom tips for surviving the new economy and whatnot, under the cut (in case of spoilers)
Adventuring Tip: STEALTH IS YOUR FRIEND
Once you get to Kakariko Village you can buy the Stealth Suit (Highly recommend doing the connected sidequest to bring the cost of the shop down). This makes it so you can walk up to fish, bugs, and creatures without them running away (if you sprint they'll still run) this is AMAZING for collecting these things as everything seems way more sparse in totk. No more chasing frogs for you my friend.
Food Tip: Critical Meals
Cooking between 11:30pm-12:00pm on the night of a blood moon gives you:
+3 hearts recovered to your dish
+1 level to whatever effect is present in your dish
+5:00 duration to the effect
Rupee Tip: Go Spelunking!
One of the biggest features in totk are the new caves systems that are literally everywhere. Oftentimes you'll find ore deposits and rare ore deposits and find Amber, Opal, Rubies, Sapphires and Topazes. Sell them for cash (I recommend saving sapphires, see below). If you see a wall of breakable rocks, usually it will drop rusty claymores and rocks for you to make more crude hammers. But a bomb flower or zonai time bomb work too (DON'T BLOW YOURSELF UP). Additionally, a cave will be marked with a ✔️ once you kill the bubblfrog inside.
Battle tip: Ice is OP.
Frozen enemies take double damage from your next hit, so try to always have a Magic Rod/Scepter with a sapphire fused to it, fusing a sapphire to a regular weapon works as well, but you're not aiming to hit the enemy with the source of the ice. Freeze > pause and switch to your strongest weapon> hit the enemy > switch back to your ice weapon > repeat to stunlock the enemy, works on everything that isn't a Lynel or Boss. Using Ice Fruit or Blue Chuchu jelly works too, but stuff is more rare in this game.
Relatively Easy Rupees:
You'll need:
-Bow & arrows (the stronger the bow the better)
-Sheild (for sheild surfing)
-Cold Resistance Armor (to survive)
-Speedy Elixir (optional, but it'll REALLY help)
-Access to Snowfield Stable (Hebra Region)
What you're gonna be doing is big game hunting in the snowy field north of the stable. All winter animals are capable of dropping Raw Gourmet Meat which is the best quality, including moose, the bears and the wolves. Sheild surf to get around quicker and then go for headshots with a bow and just hunt the animals for their meat. You'll want the speedy Elixir because you have to be pretty quick between the meat dropping and freezing. Once it's frozen it counts as a meal, but you literally get hundreds of rupees by selling 5 Raw Gourmet Meats cooked together.
Item Management: Brightbloom Mushrooms are the new Apples:
Going off of the previous tip of exploring the cave systems, you'll find Brightbloom Mushrooms almost more than anything else. Eventually you'll want to stop collecting them, but they're the perfect source of quick food fodder. Just cook a bunch together for quick hearts (and the glow effect which is nice in caves).
Advanced Combat Tip: Muddlebuds
If you've been to The Depths, one of the native plants are the Muddlebuds. These make it so enemies will attack each other when thrown (or attached to an arrow). I recommend wearing the stealth gear, sneaking up to a pack or finding a vantage point, and hitting the strongest enemy in the group with a muddlebud arrow. It'll start to attack it's allies, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the show. Note: enemies will still target you if they see you (hence the stealth/vantage point)
These are just a few tips, feel free to add more, and try not to be too spoilery for people who haven't played or haven't gotten far yet!

Blog 1: My Relationship With Nature and Sense of Place Within it
Week 1 Prompt: Describe your current relationship with nature. How has this developed/evolved? Who offered you “a sense of place,” as described in our textbook?
I grew up amongst the rolling hills, creeks forests and farms of Caledon Ontario. Since I was young I have always felt connected to nature, and I account this largely to the setting in which I grew up. Instead of street names, malls, houses, shops and recreation centers, my neighborhood was instead conservation areas, farms and undeveloped land. My friends and I would go for long bike rides and hikes and play in the woods growing up. I think this is where my current relationship with nature has had its roots.
As time went on I became busy, I trained 22hrs a week as a competitive swimmer, went to a highschool in the city and eventually made my way to the university of guelph. Nature and my time in it got further away. I missed it and have since realized the profound impact it has on my well being, so I started to find my way back. I got into triathlons after quitting swimming and started to trail run and bike. To me there is no greater feeling of freedom than moving through outdoor space, particularly one of nature, running and biking re introduced this to me. I then had the chance to work at a mountain top tea house in Banff where I lived without electricity and amenities for a summer. I truly felt I knew the place. By the time I left, I could name every mountain, valley, river, identify countless trees, birds, plants and, having just completed a geomorphology course, understand the topography of the landscape. The friendships I made that summer were unmeasurable in their meaning, and I would say these came about from the full immersion in time, place and nature as well as from the lack of modern distractions and amenities. The level of understanding I gained for that place really intensified my relationship with nature.
The following summer I worked as a park ranger in Terrace British Columbia, we worked 8 days on and 6 days off. During our shifts we would do a combination of backcountry maintenance, public outreach and communication as well as ecological monitoring. Spending days camping in the backcountry at first was scary to me. I feared the large wildlife, moose, bears, cougars etc. However by the end of the summer that fear was replaced by respect, understanding and a sense of security and belonging. To be able to walk through the old growth rainforest, see endangered species, learn cultural histories, and understand the ecology and relationships between species of plants, animals and fungi was eye opening. I feel more at risk in cities and suburbs than I ever have in the great outdoors. When doing public outreach I got to address people's concerns and curiosities about the parks I was working in. There were so many people who had no clue about bear safety or the vital role of predators in our ecosystems. Being able to help explain ecosystems and their importance, as well as, how to take safety precautions to enjoy the outdoors without fear and instead respect, further evolved my relationship with nature and my sense of place in it.
On a different note, I have always had a fear of death, I myself am not religious, and it was in my immersion with nature that I found a healthy peace and respect for it instead. To respond to who offered me a sense of place, I would say it was all the people who helped to shape my understanding of nature as well as those who provided me with the opportunities to explore on my own; there are a lot of people and places that deserve credit. My family when I was young, those I met in the jobs I worked, and the opportunities that came my way present a brief summary.
Enjoy this gif of a bear scratching its back:

Things I have learned while living in Maritime Canada for the last 6 months, as a person who was born and raised in Arizona:
Fog makes things wet. One of my most shocking revelations tbh. It seems so obvious in retrospect, but somehow it never occurred to me at all.
Paying taxes as a US citizen when you’re NOT in the states is a huge pain in the ass. 0/10, do not recommend.
At least where I am, air conditioning seems to be hard to come by. Heaters are understandably more important (However I sleep warm, and thus was dying, and had to sleep with my window wide open all winter.)
There’s jellyfish this far up north! I’ve seen Sea Gooseberries and I was Astounded.
Buildings built in the 1800s (and some 1700s) still being used today is Super Normal Actually, and they even get a fancy lil plaque.
Boat parts just laying around.
GRASS GETS SO LONG????? SO LONG. WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME GRASS GETS THAT LONG, AND SO FAST.
Spring is??? So slow???? It’s already May and the trees are only now budding, and flowers are only now blooming. In AZ it would already well be considered summer and most of the plants would be on their way to being shriveled husks.
DANDELIONS CLOSE AT NIGHT???? MOST FLOWERS DO???? I’ve only seen Desert Poppies do that.
sunset is around 8:30 right now. It used to go down at 5. The disparity confuses me.
Daylight Savings also confuses me and I Hate It
The most dangerous animals here aren’t venomous and are Also hard to come by. I will keep you all posted on any Moose Sightings.
Canada is REALLY patriotic. There’s jokes about the US leaning hard on the ‘made in America!’ thing, but Canada takes it even further I find. Maple leaves everywhere. ‘Canadian made/grown/raised’ on everything. The fast food joints have a maple leaf stuck gracefully somewhere in their logo so you know this is the CANADIAN version of that thing. A friend explained why to me but it’s still something I’m amused by.
The post office doesn’t close at 5. I am still shocked.
Bus tickets can also be used for Ferries, if your city has one!
Like Coffeemate creamer??? Good fucking luck finding that shit. And if you can, good luck finding a flavor besides Hazelnut or French Vanilla. (The After 8 flavor is good tho, if you can find it.)
Reddiwhip cannot be found anywhere and I miss it SO Much
I miss Target too.
Lots of stuff I miss, actually, that I didn’t realize Canada just Didn’t Have. RIP.
Canadian Shipping my Beloathed. Expensive + takes forever + more expensive if you get charged Duty on your items so That Sucks
Paper straws and resuable bags, yes, HOWEVER, also useless extra plastic in other ways, or taking away things in packaging that would ordinarily prevent using MORE plastic, only to use more of it anyway bc it’s gone. Very questionable.
I think I have more reusable shopping bags than I will ever need in my lifetime now.
I will presumably update my Canada Log™ at a later date, but for now thats all I can think of.

Anderson: *Wants to enter the kitchen but gets dragged away from Alucard*
Alucard: You DON'T wanna go in there-
Anderson: Wha- Why?
Alucard: TJ and Pip are having a conversation...
Anderson, frowning: And what now? They're sitting in the kitchen, I want my tea!
*proceeds to enter the kitchen*
Pip: Gosh, I really want to grow a moustache!
TJ: A lips eyebrow? No, that'd look nasty on you!
Anderson: A what?
Pip: Shut up or I'm gonna hit you with the plant based sausage!
TJ: Leave my cucumbers alone!
Anderson: Plant... based... sausage?
TJ: Oh yeah, remember when we went to the zoo and you screamed because of the giant volcano llama?
Pip: Tch, the dromedary was kinda scary, okay?
Anderson: Why volcano?!
Pip: But why was there a fucking milk moose?
TJ, shrugging: Maybe they like cows?
Anderson: Milk moose... you can't make that shit up-

Anderson: At least THAT makes perfect sense!
Pip: But I'm gonna go to the graveyard inbetween those things, need to visit some old buddys...

Had a small freezing moment at the bouldering gym. I definitely don't like the routes where I can't see the holds I came up on. 😅But I was able to jump down (eventually, after a couple of tries) and I wasn't actually that high up.
Made an attempt at a V3-4 route that wasn't too bad? And also had holds that I couldn't immediately drop down to, so that was okay. Also tried another V3 in the cave section and that was a bunch easier than the V3 where I was spidermanning my way across the ceiling, although much worse holds, haha. -- Popped into plant shop to get another orchid pot. My previous one has was so rootbound I had to cut them out and it wouldn't let go of the potting material even after they were free, so I decided to just repot my other one before it started properly blooming.
You're very pretty but I don't really need another plant. ...Even though you're really pretty. If I'm still thinking about it next week, maybe I'll get it. -- Dog School had a massive bernese mountain-poodle. Sitting up, they were to my bellybutton and that's only 6 months old. 😭
There was a small staffie called Moose, and they picked up the catch game pretty quickly! -- On the way home, popped into the shops for one thing.
...............So it appeared in my orchid pot. Yeah.

6 Reasons Canada Should be at the Top of Your Travel List
Is this the year you plan to witness the majesty of Niagara Falls, or hike through the rugged beauty of the Canadian Rockies? Will it be the year you taste maple syrup fresh from the source, or experience the thrill of watching a whale off the coast? If you are considering a visit to Canada, the answer might be, “Yes!”
To ignite your sense of adventure, here are some compelling reasons why Canada should be at the top of your travel list. On top of that, this blog adds a guide on how to prepare for a Canada trip, including visa and entry requirements, travel insurance for Canada, and so on.
6 Reasons that Make Canada a Great Tourist Destination for Indians
Canada is a popular travel destination due to its comfortable surroundings, colder climate, and the presence of vibrant Indian communities, making it an ideal choice for Indian travellers. Here are some of the reasons why Canada can let you have a great time.
Adventure sports
Canada is famous for its majestic mountain ranges, rivers, tranquil lakes, and far-reaching forests. Due to its topographical advantages, Canada offers various kinds of adventure sports. Some of them are:
CN Tower EdgeWalk in Toronto
Exploring the West Coast shoreline on Vancouver Island
Swimming with Whales in Newfoundland
Visiting Quebec's Ice Hotel
Cycling through Icefields Parkway in Alberta
Kiteboard at Prince Edward Island
Tidal Bore Surfing in the Bay of Fundy
Experience Wonderland's Leviathan in Toronto
Bungee Jumping in Nanaimo
National Parks
Canada's vast and stunning geography provides endless adventures. It consists of 37 national parks and 10 national park reserves, representing 31 of the country's 39 terrestrial natural regions. These protected areas showcase Canada's ecological diversity, preserving iconic landscapes across its vast and varied terrain.
From glaciers to towering peaks, the national parks of Canada are a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Some of the best national parks in Canada are Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Yoho National Park, Waterton Lakes National Park etc.
Wildlife in Canada
Canada boasts a rich biodiversity of above 80,000 classified species, and scientists believe there are many more that await discovery. From iconic species like bears and moose to lesser-known plants and insects, Canada's wildlife reflects vast landscapes and varied ecosystems.
Due to its cold weather and natural beauty, the wildlife in Canada is as exciting as ever. You can spot snow leopards or any of your favourite animals in the snow-capped mountains during your visit.
Seasons to Enjoy
Canada's weather varies depending on the region, so it is not always hot or cold. In general, the weather is pleasant for most parts of the country. During the colder months, you might experience snowfall, especially in certain regions. If you're interested in experiencing a white Christmas, planning your trip around Christmas time is ideal.
The festive season in Canada is marked by beautiful decorations, sales, and shopping sprees, creating a joyful atmosphere. Fall is especially stunning, with trees changing colours, making it a picturesque time to visit.
Friendly people
Being a mixture of British, French and American influences, Canadian culture embraces diversity and multiculturalism. Naturally, Canadians are friendly and welcoming in the broadest sense. They are accommodating and polite, which fosters positive experiences for Indian travellers in Canada.
Besides, Canada’s diversity fosters a rich tapestry of cultures, offering various places of worship, cuisine, and communal spaces. Therefore, you can explore all the best parts of Canada and experience the warm hospitality of Canadians everywhere.
Culinary Delights
When travelling from India to Canada, you can rest assured that you will find a variety of Indian food options to enjoy. Canada offers a wide range of vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and vegan dishes.
You will be delighted to discover numerous street food vendors and high-end dining establishments nationwide. Some popular Canadian street foods include Halifax Donair, poutine and hot dogs.
Final Words
Opting for travel insurance for Canada is wise, as healthcare is not free for Indians. While Canada has an excellent healthcare system for residents, tourists may face hefty bills without insurance. So, opting for travel insurance online can come in handy. Moreover, for activities like scuba diving, skiing, and others mentioned in the adventure sports listed above, additional coverage is often necessary.

What’s new in town?:
Is it aliens? Is it cryptids? Is there about to be a rip in the sky to another dimension? No one knows what’s causing these frequent skyquakes, but some suspect it might have something to do with all the missing Resters. Check out our first plot of the week of Season 2 for ways to interact!
Ring in the Spring! There’s a town picnic, a huge caterpillar infestation, and so much more in our seasonal event.
Now that Wild Chase Moose Tours has seen and photographed their first screaming moose, everyone is trying to get on one of their tours. Skeptics point out that you can't hear a scream from a photo. It looks like a normal moose.
Not to be left behind Moose Caboose insists that they have an audio, but no photo. You can eat dinner to the lovely bellows and grunts of a moose that doesn't really sound much like it's screaming.
Something new is forming in Grotte de Fromage. It's sticky, blue, and tastes of earthy gorgonzola. And it smells really, really bad. Come get some!
Starters:
Natalia wants to name some a trash loving bunny, no FNaF names please.
Jonas wants to let the public know, he doesn't sell haunted bagels.
Maggie assures the public that she WILL be the sparkliest vampire.
Regan has a list! Maybe you can help her fill it, you may not have a choice.
Leila needs help with a plant growing in the middle of her shop - please it's letting in the rain.
Frankie requests help in spring cleaning everything. Literally she wants to clean everything. Lend her a hand.
Zofia's allergies are out of control, and so are the exploding flowers.
Laurie isn't finding these skyquakes very cute anymore. How can you stop them?
Jack is annoyed at people review bombing him, after all who doesn't need to throw fists in this town? Give him two stars!
Vic is CERTAIN it's not aliens, and that people should start considering other possibilities - and recycling.

RESTAURANT ROUNDUP: NEW RESTAURANTS COMING TO METRO-DETROIT; DRA GREEN LANTERN PIZZA DEAL MAKES THE LIST
Posted by Crain's Detroit Business | Jay Davis | December 8, 2023
Canton gets state's second Raising Cane's- Another popular southern-based chicken chain is planting its flag in Southeast Michigan.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based Raising Cane’s is coming to Canton Township after the township board of trustees on Nov. 28 approved plans for a location at 44250 Ford Road. The chicken joint will take over a space previously occupied by TGI Fridays.
Raising Cane’s features chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, coleslaw, Texas toast, and sweet tea by the jug. The Canton Raising Cane’s will be around 3,700 square feet, according to Township documents. The restaurant will have dine-in and drive-thru service. The space will include about 1,650-square-feet for indoor dining, and an outdoor patio area.
Raising Cane’s officials did not respond to a Crain’s request for more information.
The Canton location will be Michigan’s second, following an East Lansing location that opened in October 2022 at 301 E. Grand River Ave.
New Grand River Brewery location opens today in Clawson- A bar and restaurant with roots in mid- and West Michigan is now open in an Oakland County suburb.
Jackson-based Grand River Brewery opens today at 1 E. 14 Mile Road in Clawson. The new brewery, which also has locations in Jackson and Marshall, will operate out of the space that previously housed restaurant Pumachug. Pumachug closed in November 2022.
The space features sit-down dining on one side, with seating for 50, and a 49-seat bar in an adjoining space. Grand River Brewery will have a staff of 50 employees. Grand River Brewery will offer 15 draft beers, and five taps featuring batched cocktails. Food offered will include a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, burgers, woodfire pizza and steaks.
Grand River Brewery, owned by Justin Dalenberg, opened its first location in 2013 in Jackson. The Marshall location followed in 2018.
The Clawson Grand River Brewery will be open 4 p.m.-midnight daily at the outset. Additional hours will be added after the brewery opens, company COO Bryce Davenport previously told Crain's.
New Irish pub now open in Clawson- The sister bar of a popular Rochester hangout is now open in Clawson.
Gus’ Snug opened on Dec. 4 at 38 S. Main St. in Clawson. The new Clawson spot is a venture from Dimitry Goyfman and Kevin VanDyke, the co-owners of O'Connor's Public House. The opening of Gus’ Snug is the first expansion for O'Connor's in its 19-year history. Gus’ Snug takes over a space previously occupied by Moose Winooski’s.
At 3,000 square feet, the Clawson spot at 38 S. Main St. is about half the size of O'Connor's, Goyfman said. Gus' Snug is about 3,000-square-feet, nearly half the size of Rochester's O’Connor’s. The Clawson pub has seating for 100 guests, including a 20-seat bar. Plans call for a 70-seat outdoor patio and biergarten in the rear, and a 30-seat outdoor space on Main Street.
The menu includes corned beef from Grobbel's and Fairway Packing Co. in Detroit's Eastern Market, as well as fish and chips and shepherd's pie. Gus' Snug's has nearly 20 draft beer options that include Irish favorites like Guinness, Harp and Smithwick's.
Goyfman previously told Crain’s he and VanDyke invested about $700,000 into the business and are projecting about $2 million in annual revenues.
Green Lantern Pizza expanding into Waterford-Green Lantern Pizza is set to add a new location in Oakland County.
Green Lantern in November signed a 10-year lease on a 1,400-square-foot space inside the Highland Row Shopping Center in Waterford, according to a news release. The Waterford location will serve as a carryout and delivery store.
The Waterford Green Lantern will be the company’s 12th location. A Livonia carryout and delivery store is planned, too, according to the Green Lantern website. Green Lantern currently operates seven carryout and delivery locations and sit-down restaurants and bars in Berkley, Clinton Township, and Madison Heights.

Hello friends,
We got our chores done around the house, planted the garlic and winterized our yard, so here we go again on our next adventure,
this time to Ontario and back all in Canada. This is really a family and friends trip with some adventures for good measure.
Week 1
We left on Saturday at noon to Calgary where we met up with our friends Debbie and Burk. We had a delicious dinner and a lovely visit until after bedtime.
On Sunday we met our friend Jessica and her daughters Priya and Zoey. The took us out to the Bow Valley Equestrian Center to watch Priya being coached for jumping events. She looked confident and had great posture in the saddle. Zoey was helping out with other horses, she helps out on a regular basis at the centre and also rides when she has a chance. Great to see kids with some passion.
On Monday Linda had a medical appointment at noon, so we had time for breakfast, fill up with gas and some shopping.
The first adventure begins. We drove north on Hwy 2 to Airdre and then east to Drumheller, a nice drive through farmland, a lot of it harvested already.
The countryside here is flat, Big Sky country, as they say and the farms are big spreads. Here and there we saw oil pumps, usually a few within 500m from each other.
Just before Drumheller, Hwy 9 descends down into the Badlands. The town is on the Red Deer River, with some box stores, it's a typical tourist town. Nice and clean and friendly staff at the tourist info centre.
We decided to check out the Hoodoos south towards East Coulee. We wanted to check into the 11 Bridges campground in Rosedale, but it was closed with a sign "Private Property". SO we drove over the 11 bridges towards Wayne and went as far as the Coal Mine.
We stayed overnight at the Hoodoos RV Park. After setting up camp we went for a walk along the Red Deer River, where we spotted a moose cow and 2 calfs relaxing on a river island.
We drove back to Drumheller in the morning for some local fresh brewed coffee and pastries. As it was still too early to go the the Museum, we drove north to a lookout over the Hoodoos.
From there we drove north to Munson and then west to the Bleriot Ferry to cross the Red Deer river. This ferry is a one man show, big enough for 3 cars or one truck and the captain is pretty relaxed and casual. The crossing took 15 minutes even though the distance was only 300 meters...
We had to climb back up to the prairie plateau to a lookout on the south rim of the Hoodoos. Yes it's the same gorge but it shows a different look to this natural wonder.
Then we made it to Royal Tyrell Museum at 10:30 and first parking lot was already half full. The displays and artifacts are incredible, all very interesting. I would recommend this attraction to all.
After lunch we drove north to Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park, another beautiful view of the Badlands. The day use area was at the bottom of the valley. We drove down and back up on an 18% grade gravel road, but it was with worth it!
Then we drove north on Hwy 21 to Edmonton. This city has grown a lot since my last visit here. We got onto the ring road, the Anthony Henday Freeway in the south east. Our friends Jim, Pauline and Tucker live in the north west of the city so we got to drive around the city and it gave us a perspective on how big the place is now.
We stayed with our friends and got a grand tour of Edmonton the next day. The area along the North Saskatchewan River has nice parks, walking trails and attractions for day use.
The local buddhist centre had a lovely veggie garden

Did you know? Elk are very important in shaping plant communities within their own habitats through their foraging and browsing. Similarly, to bison, elk have been introduced to numerous national wildlife refuges to help restore grass prairie ecosystems (Source: Treehugger) SALE NOW ON: BUY 2 GET 1 FREE ON ALL ITEMS STOREWIDE Shop our Magical Elk Necklace Today at Floral Fawna. A beautiful Euphorbia, 65cm tall. Also called a ‘ghost cactus’, although I think there are other forms and species of cactus that are also called this
Purchased from Moose Plant Shop for a very reasonable price.
It’s very spiky! I love it.

Alright so, not to sugar coat anything but this was an absolute nightmare.
You, Sam and Castiel had gotten word of a hunt - well more Sam but that’s besides the point - and had left yesterday. You’d paused at a gas station outside of a place called Charming Acres but the dude at the counter said something was off about the place… so naturally (or supernaturally) you all went to check it out. And a dude’s head just completely blew up out of the blue after he came in for his phone?
Pulling into the town itself, now that was something. You felt as though you’d walked into a 1950s sitcom about some cheesy, lovesick marriage story. Something that you’d like to stay well away from. Consequently, you met a cheesy, lovesick couple called Justin and Cindy Smith who said they’d heard absolute zilch about any deaths and “this is a very close-knit community, nothing goes on here without everyone knowing” blah blah blah.
Anyway, the strangest thing for you wasn’t the clothes, nor was it the 1950s behaviour, no, it was the fact Justin didn’t seem to recognise what a phone was. You silently ogled at him but he paid no attention to you. So now you definitely thought something was off about this place.
After that fateful encounter, you all stumbled upon the local diner “Harrington’s” who was run by the Mayor Chip Harrington and his daughter Sunny. You thought Sunny was a very sweet young woman who honestly looked like someone you’d get along with, however you noticed her head perked up once conversation about Conrad (watermelon head guy) started. Castiel so delicately stated, “Oh no! His head exploded” rendering everyone in the diner speechless.
The Mayor stuttered for a moment then questioned “Excuse me?”
“Like a ripe melon in the sun.”
Whilst this confrontation was happening, Sunny gave you and Sam milkshakes, as Cas had refused earlier, so you were busy trying not to spit it out as you found that conversation hilarious. Chippy boy gave you the information where Conrad was last seen and then you all took off but not before Sam abruptly said “Alright, you know what? We’re leaving, bye.” And that was that.
When you’d all arrived at the boarding house, a too cheerful Ms. Dowling greeted you at the door, and creepily said she knew you were coming because it’s a small town and things travel fast. Honestly, what is it with these people? From there, and after a brief explanation on why you all were there, she showed you to Conrad’s room and said he moved in a few weeks ago.
Being your observant self, you came to the conclusion that the bed had been barely used but there were passionate and just plain disgusting letters under the mattress addressed from Sunny (so maybe she wasn’t so innocent, neither were you).
At the same time Sam suggested you all stay overnight and divulge and investigate more thoroughly in the morning and yet his almost desperate tone of voice put you on edge. Obviously, you were all tired and weary but Sam was just on a whole new level of “oh this is amazing, we should stay here because it’s so cool”. So reluctantly, you and Cas agreed but not before exchanging an uncertain glance with each other, the intuition of a teenager and an angel right?
Sam and you were sharing a room since Cas had insisted on his own, and instantly something changed with how he addressed you. “(Y/N), please take your shoes off, you’ll ruin this lovely carpet,” and “(Y/N), sweetheart, don’t you think wearing something a little more lady-like would be more appropriate, hm?”
All you could do what was sit and stare because not once had Sam ever been this pedantic or pathetic and he certainly had never called you “sweetheart”, so too baffled to engage in intelligent conversation, you went to bed just after Sam as you were too busy burning incredulous holes into the back if his hairy head. Struggling to grasp sleep, you softly whispered a “What the fuck?” and thank god Sam didn’t hear you because you would’ve absolutely hated the outcome.
The next morning you were woken up quite rudely by an angel banging on your door. Blearily you struggled out of bed and opened the door, rubbing your eyes. “What time is it?” You said.
“Time to get up, get dressed and Sam-Sam?”
Noting Castiel’s confusion, you turned quickly in what was once Sam’s direction only to find your lovable older brother had disappeared to Chuck knows where. Great, man hunt at ridiculous o’clock in the morning. Cas immediately raced down to the stairs to seemingly find Ms. Dowling leaving you rushing to change into something more appropriate that pyjamas.
Descending the stairs you notice the front door open and a frantic looking Castiel waiting in the Impala, waving for you to get in. Shouting a quick “thank you!” to Ms. Dowling, you sprant for the car and sat in Sam’s seat.
Castiel started the car and you asked “So? We know where he went?”
“I’ve been told he left this morning saying he was going on a walk to the diner and wanted a milkshake, but only after screaming at Ms. Dowling who had her eardrums blocked with ear plugs,” he said. You nodded, absorbing the information and pondered why Sam would just up and leave for a milkshake.
“Cas, you don’t think that there’s something wrong with the milkshake? Or like, this town in general? Because I do and Sam was being a real overbearing douchebag after you left yesterday and acting completely out of character.”
He didn’t hesitate to nod his head, “I must admit, the strange customs have piqued my interest and Sam did drink quite a lot of that milkshake yesterday so it might be a possibility that there is a supernatural force going on here.”
He looked like he wanted to say more, but you’d turned a corner and arrived just before the diner. Castiel left the car and went to inspect whilst you decided a smart move would be to ring Sam’s phone… only to find it ringing in the back of the car. Typical frustrating Winchester.
Placing your hands on your head, you massaged your temples and tried to think of any reasonable explanation as to what on earth was going on.
You heard the driver’s door being opened and looked over to see Castiel already turning the keys in the ignition. “He’s gone to Mr and Mrs. Smith's house,” was the only explanation you received.
Suddenly determined, you nodded and said, “Alright, we’re getting somewhere, onward!” So, the car started and picked up speed, as you made your way to the Smith’s house you took a chance to observe the area a bit more.
It was definitely something outdated and old-fashioned but the people did look happy, even if the shops were called something despicable like “The Rainbow Restaurant". It was very bright and colourful and you didn’t doubt that even if a thunderstorm hit, these people would still be acting on top of the world.
Upon finally reaching your destination, you took notice of the white-picket fence and the massive garden. The house was huge and definitely unnecessary for only two people. Regardless, you and Cas sauntered up to the door and knocked three times respectively. On the third Cindy opened the door with a clear smile on her face and a very pleasant scent of lavender perfume. “Hello, can I help you?”
You and Cas glanced at each other before he answered, “First of all, I’d like to offer my condolences for your husband's death but we really need to know-”
He was cut off by a very confused Cindy Smith who said, “My husband? Honey, I think you might be mistaken. My darling husband is in the kitchen, fetching his newspaper. Justin, dear, come say hello!”
Again, Cas looked like he wanted to continue but a very familiar, moose-like voice interrupted “Coming darling! Won’t take two slices of a carrot cake!” It was, unmistakably, Sam. You gaped and stared questioningly at Cas in silent question. He merely returned your look.
Moments later, Sam appeared in the doorway. Wearing a pair of glasses. A ponytail. And a fucking cardigan. A cardigan, because why the hell not? He wrapped his hands around Cindy’s waist and looked at us in confusion. Or sorry, at Cas in confusion, but when his gaze landed on you his face went more stern.
“Young lady, do you not remember what I said about un lady-like clothing? Because those denim jeans and that ridiculous jumper are hardly suitable for my daughter, little miss. I suggest you get in this house right now and put on that lovely dress your mother bought you,” he basically seethed.
Now you were definitely the equivalent of a fish, with your wide mouth and wide eyes. You managed to compose yourself a bit before stuttering “Sam?”
His eye twitched and there was no warning before he grabbed your arm and pulled you in the house then promptly dragged you into the sitting area. He guided you to the sofa on the left of the fireplace and very softly explained, “My sweet honey, I know that this is hard for you, but your mother and I want what’s best for you. Now, be a good girl and wait here until your mother and I have finished our pleasant conversation with our new neighbour, hm?” Then he planted a kiss on your forehead and returned to Cindy’s side to continue conversing with Cas.
All you could think was: what the fuck?
