they met through a sugar daddy website that james showed to remus one night (he's on it and is absolutely not telling him that he's met a guy)

remus is so embarrassed at first, he was on tinder like twice and had bad dates because of it so he isn't exactly confident this will work but he does get a lot of attention

he gets messages from kinda old guys, and a few older women, that are either way too pushy with what they want in return for an 'allowance' or just kinda creepy and he almost deletes it

then he gets a message off of someone young, maybe his age, and he's gorgeous

remus is so sure its a scam, no one can look that good and be on an app like this but he messages them anyway when they say hi first, and he asks about them and the guy is regulus arcturus black (he gives his full name, he's a loser) and he's literally just looking for company and someone to spend money on, nothing in return, he doesn't need it

remus is kinda shook because like what?? how is this guy lonely he must have friends but turns out regulus just has rich friends that can buy their own things, he doesn't have anyone to spend time with other than when he goes to family events which he hates

and remus is like okay,,,,maybe drinks first and regulus sends him the location of probably the nicest bar in london and remus is close to passing out because he cannot afford this at all but he said he'd go

he wears his nicest outfit (its a brown jumper and some nice trousers and his converse, he cant afford anything else rn because his cat started a hunger strike against the food he's had for a year and remus had to upgrade, kids eh?)

regulus is already there because he is never a minute late, and checking his rolex thinking he's been stood up but remus runs in like 'hi im so sorry i missed the train hi' and regulus is in love already, just straight up his heart starts hammering in his chest because not only is remus gorgeous in a weird, dorky way but he's just...he's adorable

regulus is calm tho, think levi ackerman levels of expression, he just kinda sits there arms folded and asks remus questions about his life and what he would like as an allowance and remus is just,,,confused?

he asks why regulus wants to spend his money on him and regulus insists he's bored (he's so fucking lonely and wants someone around him to dote on) and just needs a date to events as his parents are giving him shit for being single at 26

remus is unsure but decides fuck it, james can probably throw hands if regulus tried anything, and they agree to attend some gala together for regulus' family and remus says he'll have to get new clothes and regulus then sets up a date the next day to buy him an outfit and its a lil montage of regulus giving remus clothes to try its very cute

and is remus confused and guilt ridden for this man spending money on him? yeah, duh, but also he doesn't have to pay his bills anymore, he has amazing clothes, his stress levels are so fucking low than before, and he likes regulus....he really really likes him

and regulus is getting what he wants, but also he has remus lupin as eye candy and that's an added bonus, and god remus is so adorable and nerdy and he wants to climb him like a tree

also yes remus sees james at the event and he's like what the fuck are you doing here and turns out james is with HIS sugar daddy, aka regulus' brother and its a whole ordeal

and maybe one night regulus invites remus to stay with him for the night because its too late to get the train and he doesn't really want to let remus go and maybe they drink wine and maybe they touch just to see what its like and maybe MAYBE they kiss and make out and fuck slow and deep and then AND THEN—

“Ready to go?” Regulus asks him as soon as he turns the corner to the empty corridor where Regulus told him to meet up. He is wearing pyjama bottoms and one of Remus’ sweaters. Though the days are starting to warm up, it is still quite cold at night. Remus thinks he looks adorable. 

“Are you going to tell me where we’re going?” Remus asks as he approaches Regulus. Neither of them is really the adventurous type, so when Regulus told him he had plans for them tonight to sneak out after curfew Remus was a bit surprised. Throughout the day his curiosity has been growing. He really wants to know.

“No,” answers Regulus smiling as he promptly starts walking out in front of him, gesturing for Remus to follow him, leading the way through the long hallways of the castle. Remus doesn’t know where they’re going or what Regulus wants to show him, only that he is really excited to do so. Only one way to find out.

As they climb the narrow stairs it is clear now where Regulus is leading him. They arrive at the top of the stairs of the astronomy tower, Regulus takes his hand and pulls him to the railing, so they can look outside. Then finally he speaks up about what they’re doing here, “Look,” he points at the night sky, at the Moon. “It’s us.”

First Remus doesn’t know what he should notice, it’s a half moon tonight, he knows this already. Then, paying attention to the stars, connecting them in his head, he sees it, the Leo constellation, the heart of the lion. Regulus and the Moon, looking like they’re only centimetres apart from their point of view on Earth.

He lets go of Regulus’ hand and puts his arm around him, hand resting on his hip, pulling him closer. He kisses the side of his boyfriend's face, who is still looking ahead at the sky. 

“It’s us,” he repeats.

Hogwarts in the winter was serene. The morning before holiday, the grounds were covered in an unbroken sheet of white, the sun shimmered gently on the frozen lake, and Regulus Black was beyond cold.

He heaved his way up the stairs from the dungeons, his robes wrapped tighter than usual to try to maintain any body heat he had. In front of him, Barty prattled on about how he thought his holiday would go, while a half asleep Evan nodded along.

Breakfast was already being served, and the Great Hall was brimming with life. Regulus shivered as he slipped into his usual spot at the Slytherin table, immediately picking up the cup of hot chocolate resting on the table. He was always grateful for the house elves and the magic that had refreshments on the table without having to ask.

The trio chatted around, discussing end of term exams and how they thought they did and then the plans for next term. The final owl delivery came later than usual, the birds also seemingly ready for a long rest. Regulus' Great Horned Owl carried a small red envelope in his talons and dropped it into his lap with well practiced grace.

"Ohh, summons from Mother Dearest?" Teased Evan.

"Or perhaps a secret love letter from the boy you won't tell us about?" Barty tacked on, making a ridiculous expression to annoy his friend more.

Regulus shook his head and opened the envelope to a small note with no more than a sentance on it.

He did his best to conceal his smile, peeking at the Gryffindor table.

Barty caught his glance up, and apparently never satisfied being an arse, nagged on. "It is him! Tell us your secrets Reggie, you cannot keep him away forever."

With breakfast over and classes out for the term, Regulus' trip to the east wing of the castle was easy. The hard part was shaking his dorm mates, having to eventually strike a deal that they would be the first to know when he felt comfortable sharing who he had been meeting.

The black haired boy arrived first, the empty classroom becoming familiar to him after months of secret rendezvous'. The door opened again not more than two minutes later, and none other than Remus Lupin closed it behind him, a parcel in his hand.

"Reg, hi," He smiled, stepping close and opening his arms for an embrace. Regulus happily let himself be wrapped in the other's arms.

They stood quietly like that for what felt like ages, Remus resting his cheek on Regulus' head and rubbing circles into his back.

His emotions took him over all at once, as if his heart had thawed in the hug, and quietly began crying. It started slow at first, but bubbled into heaving sobs and a tight grip on Remus' jumper. When he began to calm and stepped back, Remus tilted his chin up to look him in the eyes.

"Whats wrong, starshine?" His gentle inquiry made Regulus choke out a sob again and it took him another minute to compose himself enough to respond.

"I don't- I *can't* go back, Rem. I can't do it anymore."

"You don't have to, you can come home with me. It might not be as glamorous as you hope but you'll be home."

"I want to, so badly, but I cannot deal with another howler. I can't promise she wouldn't track me down and hurt you or your parents-"

"We can worry about that later, love. I need you to be safe or my own safety will be the least of my concerns," Remus cut him off, squeezing one of his shoulders as a reassurance. "Just one holiday. I would fight the sun if it meant you never had to go back there."

Regulus sniffled, nodded, and wiped his face. He laughed nervously, "I feel so silly, you make it all sound so simple."

"Your'e not silly, I may not know what all you're going through, but I know I care about you. Everything about you is simple to me."

And Regulus finally felt seen, appreciated, cared for, protected. His chest felt warm and fuzzy, and he almost started crying again. "Thank you..."

"Always, Starshine," Remus went to hold Regulus face and was reminded of the present in his hand. "Oh, this is for you."

Regulus gently took the box from him, the tartan wrapping messy and torn on one side. It was charming, something that was truly only his. He looked up to Remus, searching for a hint of a joke in his eyes but only found a genuine fondness, so he began to pull back the paper.

Under the lid sat a mossy green jumper, one of Remus', one of Regulus' favorites.

"For me?" Remus nodded, taking the box so Regulus could pull out the garment. "I love it," and he started to cry again, clutching the jumper close to his chest.

I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you

The mantra repeated as a chorus in his mind, feeling so overwhelmed with emotion. Remus cared, and in such a way that only Regulus would know. He didn't have to share with his brother or have it taken from him because it 'wasn't proper.' Someone all of his own.

And Regulus decided that this would be the start of something new, something wholly for him. Remus wasn't a secret to keep, parents or brother be damned, he wanted to love Remus outside of this classroom.

What’s the magical secret behind finishing writing a fic before starting a new one ?

Au with no Voldemort or war yet Remus still found himself a world away from the rest of the marauders because while James Sirius and lily found themselves closer than ever (shameless plug for the perfect throuple come on) and Peter started finding his place in the world outside of his friend group, Remus just disappeared off the face of the planet when they graduated. All letters sent to him were sent back, all calls just rung until they ended, no one caught sight of him anywhere he used to say he would be, it was like their friend had vanished.

They only hear from him again five years later, when Harry is just about to turn two and they all fully believed their friend was dead but just never said it aloud. Lily always sent a letter to invite Remus to celebrations, even when she started to feel they would never be answered, but for some reason he had decided to answer this time. He writes back how he’s sorry he’s been busy but he’ll be there for Harry’s birthday.

They half expect him to ghost them again but sure enough, the day of the party, Remus is there. And in his arms is a squirmy four year old that looks just like him. He introduces his son as Teddy and is the calmest one in the room when he does so. The party goes off without a hitch, the only things causing them all to hold their breath being when their mutual friends try and berate Remus for disappearing but Remus just smiles this soft, sad little smile that can only come from growing up and apologizes again and again. After the party’s over and Harry and teddy are fast asleep upstairs, the marauders berate Remus. Any question about where he went is answered with ‘Teddy,’ any question about what he was doing is answered with ‘Teddy,’ and then the question on all their minds of who’s the other parents is answered with a choked up sort of silence before Remus pulls that smile again and shrugs.

They see Remus and teddy much more than before but still not as often as they’d like. Remus never answers any questions about his life that aren’t about Teddy, and everyone’s afraid to ask.

They never learn that Teddy’s other parent is Regulus, and they never learn that he’s dead. Remus never talks about how they left to elope, pushed into action by their accidental but heavily cherished pregnancy, and planned to see their friends again after their baby was born. Remus looks back at those months as the happiest of his life. Being married to the love of his life with their new family just starting to grow. They were so excited… but pregnancies within the house of black had always been hush hush for a reason. They were dangerous. Incest in a lineage can make pregnancies even more life or death. For regulus it was death, and Remus was left crying alone in their home, having only brought their son back from the hospital. Regulus had been left plenty of money from his grandfather’s will, making it very easy for Remus to let his grief turn him into a recluse focused solely on their baby. He only shook himself out of it when he realized that Teddy didn’t have a friend in the world besides him, and that wasn’t a way to live.

Anyway hella mourning the never gets better because regulus never stops being dead but Remus wants Teddy to have the best.

(Also in the original writing of this Remus disappeared again and the marauders heard from Teddy once Harry reunited with him in hogwarts that Remus has actually been missing for years and he’s been living with Hope because one day after the moon he just didn’t come back and sometimes Teddy finds himself staying up to watch the door on full moon nights just in case Remus would come walking through it but he never did because yay grief)

Now- you may be wondering. Sebastian, this is a HOLIDAY (national holiday) fic. And yes, it is a bit. But also it’s not JUST that.

There is so many possibilities for the exes, it can be so good, and fits perfectly with my "everyone wants Remus" agenda
