" walking home,
i was talking to you under my breath
saying things i would never say directly
i heard a siren on the highway up ahead
kinda wished they'd come and get me "

I can't believe it's been almost a year since I went to see TMG - and they still sing this song, and people sing along, and --
For a long time, this was a song (and album) that I was specifically warned against listening to. And when I watched one of the Jordan Lake sessions with Ryn, they played it, and it happened to have perfectly resonant timing with stuff I was working thru in EMDR, and I wept, and Ryn held me.
And then, by the time I saw it live, I had gone through Fresh Horrors, and No Children held for me not poison but a sort of unbridled joy of having survived that, at least, and I remember singing along with a crowded room full of people and feeling uplifted. A strange and beautiful experience.
couldn’t stop thinking about this post

1. Get Lonely and depression robe Ed are the only two things that have really felt true to my experience losing Ryn
2. Corolla, NC is not far from where Blackbeard supposedly died, iirc, which makes this song feel extra *something*

2, 8, 20 for the ask game?
tmg asks
2: top TWENTY FAVORITE SONGS
holy shit twenty is a big number in no particular order heel turn 2, heretic pride, autoclave, get lonely, dilaudid, broom people, this year (jordan lake sessions vol 3 specifically), cotton, sicilian crest, going invisible two, slow west vultures, game shows touch our lives, riches and wonders, no children, love love love, elijah, wear black, deuteronomy 2:10, never quite free, dance music, rat queen. i think thats twenty.
8: favorite song with a location in the title
ok the obvious answer is a going to. the obvious answer is one of my favorite going tos like palestine, maryland, or georgia. the real fuckin answer is moon over goldsboro. get lonely MY BELOVED
20: personal story
oh man oh man. what the hell is there to even say. i think my earliest memory of tmg is from when i was in middle school, like i very specifically remember this one specific lyric video that probably was circulating in one of my fandom discords that i listened to and i just loved it (it actually might have been one of you were cool but i dont remember). like i was entranced. but i remained a very casual fan for a long while until at some point in like high school. and i think i read some fanfic of probably cr with a heel turn 2 reference and i listened to it and just again was entranced and it happened again and again until i got to where i am today. i have a massive fucking reverence for jd and i could list in an innumerable amount of ways in which his music has pushed me through and brought me joy but honestly i just admire how strongly he lets himself be expressive and keep up this incredibly prolific music career despite the fact that most people look at this massive catalogue and confusing lyrics and go what the hell. i also know the feeling which i think he has of just stories and words falling out of you and i just!!! the goats. the greatest of all times.

i hate to be the basic bitch i am, but emilia holdoncallfailed, can i request a playlist based around the kind of distorted hauntedness of battery in your leg?
dear anon, i don't think you're a basic bitch but i do suspect you're some kind of emotional masochist based on this request.
spotify + youtube
how do you sleep? — lcd soundsystem [i think this is the closest analog to BIYL due to the distorted hauntedness you described and also being about james murphy's estranged ex-collaborator who was a childhood friend of his.]
jane cum — japanese breakfast
hazel st — deerhunter [h/t gen of course]
i don't smoke — mitski
wish you were dead — scheer
nobody else will be there — the national
don't holdyrbreath (girly-sound version) — liz phair
fillmore jive — pavement
beside myself — fanny
winter song — yoko ono
which will — nick drake
says elliott — sibylle baier
moon over goldsboro — the mountain goats
razor love — neil young [not on spotify unfortch]
railroad boy — the magnetic fields
margaret vs. pauline — neko case
cold apartment — vagabon
1995 — the radio dept.
a worrying thing — yo la tengo
by some miracle — philip selway
comin' back to me — jefferson airplane
BONUS: how do you sleep? — john lennon [far, far more bitter than BIYL but nevertheless probably THE ultimate band breakup song and the obvious inspiration for the lcd soundsystem track. it also features a climactic guitar solo like in BIYL—this one is played by george harrison so it's similar to the blur song in that there is a ghost of the old band within it via guitar solo...something to think about...]
