exuberant, over-the-top, larger-than-life, slightly bad taste, red-blooded but ultimately human

tbh i’m glad to hear someone else was not a huge fan of adam lambert’s judas. i honestly thought i was just too emotionally attached to carl anderson’s performance and being too harsh but he is far to focused on *sounding* good when i want judas to rip my heart out and stomp on it 😞
That’s exactly it! And he DID sound good but it was so concerty like I hated all the additional “mmm”s and “woah”s he added, it really takes away from the storytelling. It didn’t feel like he knew what he was saying, he was just performing.
I think there’s a reality where he is a good Judas I just think it’s not with Cynthia’s Jesus (her Judas should’ve been a woman and I’ll die on that hill) and his acting needs work.
(Also this is petty but I hated his outfit and makeup. He looked SO out of place with everyone else but not in a stylistic “Judas is an outsider” way. More in a “that’s just Adam Lambert” way)

Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell coming out around the same time and telling the same basic story is so funny to me because in JCS Jesus is this tortured and tired soul trying to come to terms with his inevitable fate and then in most of Godspell Jesus is like

Ok sorry maybe that was a little mean. I am rewatching some clips and I think the issue comes down to 1. Lack of chemistry w him and Cynthia 2. Too much focus on riffs and vocal showboating at the expense of emotion. He sounds really good but Judas’s part doesn’t need to be showy and full of runs.
Adam Lambert Judas I hate you Adam Lambert Judas you don’t exist to me
#ej.txt#I do think Adam is incredibly vocally talented#but I think everyone who is saying he was fantastic are clearly fans of Adam before JCS fans#because I don’t think he got the character at all
