That night was your partner’s birthday, Dazai Osamu. It was expected that Port Mafia came in party today, since your boyfriend was a Port Mafia former executive, well you wouldn't say a former maybe, a traitor?

The place was crowded, filled with chatting and so on. Wine, Food, People, everywhere. You like to be a part of this celebration but you weren't a fond of alcohol. That's true, you weren't fond of it but somehow you're in a drunk state. You walk out onto the balcony with a bottle of wine in your right hand, the cool breeze hits you, the moon is shining, the night is sure beautiful. Your gaze met a tall, brown haired figure whos leaning against the railing. His face was blurred, you couldn't see well who is it.

“The moon is beautiful, isn't it?” the figure chuckled, his eyes meeting yours.

You blinked few times, slowly taking your steps to him. His face was shown unblurred, under the moonlight making him look.. better. Words couldn't rate him, he really is your everything. His gaze changed looking at the wine you are holding.

“Name, I think that's enough wine for today-” before he finished his sentence while trying to take it from your hand, your body lean closer to his, your head falling on his chest. He looked down at you, your eyes half opened. His lips forming a smile, hands wrapping around your waist. He hummed, resting his chin on top of your head, enjoying this small moment. Few moments later, he decided to bring back inside since the weather was getting colder. His hand wrapping around your shoulder, walking you to the door. Before both of you reached inside, you pin him against a wall. He was a little startled at your action, but he was fine after. His brown eyes looking at you while you return looking at him. The wine that was at your hand was gone, and right now your hand are now holding his chin, caressing his bottom lip. The brown haired was speechless with your sudden boldness move, but a smile forming on his lips. You slowly moves even closer to him, until your lips eventually touch his own. His smile seems to grow as the two of you share a soft, warm, loving kiss with each other, his hands once again wrapping around your waist as the two of you share a very sweet and romantic moment together. Both of you let go of the kiss, where your face was even redder then earlier. Your head resting on his chest, mumbling out a sentence.

“Happy birthday, dummy.”

the innocent yet intimate act of brushing fingertips as you lay in silence staring up at the ceiling. soft rustling of freshly washed sheets as freshly shaven legs moved about underneath the thin summer linen. 

the only source of light was from the open windows, that were on your side of the bed. ‘your side’ ha, what a joke. 

it was courtney’s bed, in her room. you didn’t have a side. yet every time she would ask you to stay the night.  just like clockwork, you would make your way to the left hand side of the bed. 

she had even created a section of the bedside table dedicated for your things. 

sleepovers during winter were even better. being tightly pressed up against eachother, trying to preserve as much heat as possible, with matching pairs of woolly socks adorned on your feet due to your room being absolutely freezing at any given moment. 

the way her breath would fan your neck as she peacefully slept, completely and absolutely unaffected by the close proximity.

legs entangled with her arm haphazardly thrown over your waist as you stared up at the skylight for hours, listening to and watching the rain smashing against the window at a rapid pace. 

her grip would subconsciously tighten everytime there would be a thrash of lighting. your fingers drawing small patterns and shapes on her bicep as you slowly drifted off to sleep. 

then there were nights where you were practically laying on top of her, if you moved your face even an inch forward, it would’ve resulted in your lips against her neck. you wouldn’t of minded though. 

sometimes you could swear that you could feel her heartbeat begin to increase, but maybe it was just your heartbeat you were hearing. 

courtney would be too engrossed with the movie infront of her too even pay the littlest amount of attention to you. 

yet, you somehow found peace behind her not paying attention to you, listening to the calming sound of her heartbeat while she absentmindedly twirled the ends of your hair. allowing you to peacefully let sleep override your senses. 

it was perfect. you and her against the world. although she wasn’t yours, she would never be yours. 

simply just a bestfriend who would occasionally glance down at your lips as you lay talking in the darkness. a bestfriend who would have her arm round your waist at any given moment. a bestfriend that you looked at like she put the stars and moon in the night sky. 

simply just bestfriends.

“Moony it hurts. It hurts so much” Sirius whines. He, earlier that day, had learned the unfortunate consequences of what happens when you forget sunscreen on a hot sunny day. His shoulders, back, arms, legs, face, you name it, were burnt.

Remus was sitting on the toilet, and Sirius on the ground right in front of him and Remus was currently rubbing aloe vera that they picked up from the muggle pharmacy on his burns. “I know baby, I’m sorry.” Remus murmurs, soothing Sirius.

“Ah, ah” He winces, Remus rubs a bit too hard on a really red spot.

“I’m sorry Siri, but this is necessary so that it’ll soothe the burns and help it heal faster.” He supplies, trying to get Sirius to understand.

“But Moony, I’d-“

Remus cut him off. “Sirius, you’d rather what? Get skin cancer or melanoma instead of suffer for a minute or two.” He chides. “Just a minute more ok?”

“Mkay Moons.” Sirius responds, a little dreary and tired.

Remus rubs the last little bit into his shoulders. “Ok, you’re done.”

Sirius stands up, “Thank you Moony,” Sirius says with a genuine smile on his face.

“You’re more than welcome Siri, but I have just one more thing.”

Sirius rolls his eyes. “And what would that be?”

“What was the lesson learned today?”

“Moony loves me and will do anything for me?” Sirius sneakily responds.

Remus rolls his eyes and responds. “Mmm also correct, but that’s not quite the answer I’m looking for.”

“Don’t go out in the sun, ever, ever again?”

“Siri.” Remus looks up at him and puts his hands on his hips, still sitting on the toilet.

Sirius sighs, but answers: “Wear sunscreen and reapply if you’re going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time.”

“Thank-“ Remus starts. But Sirius isn’t quite finished speaking.

“Even though your partner put on 30 spf once and I had to put on 70 spf. You should have told me!” He exclaims.

“Siri it’s not my fault that you’re as pale as a ghost.”

“Well it’s not my fault you’re not.” Sirius juts out his lip.

“Sirius, let’s not.” Remus says, not in the mood to get into a pointless quarrel with Sirius over the fact that they’re different ethnicities.

“Remussss” Sirius whines. Again.

Remus just stands up and kisses his forehead. “I love you.” He murmurs.

“I love you too Moons.” Sirius replies

Remus washes his hands and turns back to Sirius who is now waiting by the doorframe. “All we gotta do now is set alarms throughout the night to reapply the aloe vera.”

Sirius just groans.

Chapter 223 Trivia (Part 1)

The final chapter of 2021! This time last year, Senku and the others were crossing the Andes and Suika almost died falling into a canyon.

How time flies!

(...Unlike Suika.)

The astronauts are training underwater to simulate space's weightlessness. You'll notice they have frames around them. This is to ensure neutral buoyancy: they'll neither float to the surface nor sink to the bottom.

This is harder than it sounds, with a quarter of astronauts returning with injuries to their hands and their shoulders especially due to pressure against the rigid space suit. Because of Earth's gravity, doing the underwater tasks can actually be harder than doing them in space.

I think they gave up on giving us accurate calendars after the "10 year time skip" situation in chapter 215…

This tube is to prevent contaminating the astronauts so they don't bring anything to the moon. It's more important for missions to extraterrestrial bodies than, say, missions to the ISS since the ISS is already contaminated by people and it's fairly self-contained.

These space suits look more similar to atmospheric diving suits, especially JIM suits, than the softer-looking space suits we're used to. This might be because they lack the ideal materials, or possibly to avoid the problem of decompression sickness:

Hard-shell suits can withstand more pressure, so there's no need to adjust to the lower-pressure limits of the soft suits moving to/from the rocket. The other advantage to these suits is that there's no counter-force: the astronauts don't have to exert force to hold a position.

The suits are probably inspired by the RX series by Litton Industries, in particular the RX-2 (which had aluminum joints) and the RX-3, both from the 1960s.

The udder-like valves at the front of the suit are for the various hose connections needed, such as breathable air and water cooling. You may notice that they're at similar positions to Stanley's revival outfit (probably a coincidence).

You're probably laughing at how awkwardly everyone's standing, and that's because the suits don't have a full range of movement. To make working with their hands easier, the suits are biased towards the front.

Shoulders are really complicated joints!

Remember last week when I said the gloves need to be fitted well so the wearers can use their hands properly?

I'm not even sure anyone can form a fist, let alone shoot a gun.

There's no visual difference between the suits, so once everyone has their helmets on it might be hard to tell who's who.

Unless the black and white manga is preventing us from seeing that they're bright red, blue, and green or something.

The transition from Stanley and Xeno being an inseparable pair, chasing their other half around the world, to Stanley admitting that "it ain't just the two of us anymore" really shows character development.

Xeno following it up with "we" makes me feel something though… 🥺

Xeno gives Stanley a pack of chewing tobacco because he can't smoke in space, but chewing tobacco needs to be spat out afterwards unless Stan intends to eat the cigarette, paper and all.

I really hope we see Stanley use one because I don't know how they're meant to work.

As of March 2021, in-flight accidents have killed 15 astronauts and 4 cosmonauts, making the fatality rate 3.2%. However, if you include the Apollo 1 launch pad fire that happened on the ground, this brings the total to 22/439 astronaut fatalities, which is the 5% Senku mentions.

I think this is absolutely one of the best opening scenes in any show. It's perhaps a cliché montage but they do it SO WELL.

I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE PAT SNIFFED HIS FINGERS!

I also can't believe it took me until episode 6 to notice the colours of Pran's phone 😂

I love that it doesn't even enter Pran's mind that Pat might be the guy who invited him to look at the moon together on the rooftop when he gets there. He's so distracted by Pat even being there that he doesn't stop to question the mere possibility that Pat might be his mystery date. I guess he presumes that the other guy knows who he is rather than being like him - unaware of the other person's identity. Pat's ignorance can be forgiven a bit because he thinks it's a girl...but still, they're the only ones there at 21:00 and neither of them make any attempt to join any dots. 😄

And I love the linguistics of "The one you're waiting for is me" from Pran, as opposed to what he could have said: 'I'm actually the one who lives in room 439, not some girl'. The latter is more - 'you've misunderstood who this person is and mistakenly didn't realise it was not only not a girl but actually your long time rival, me' - whereas the former is more of a statement of fact - 'you don't realise it yet but I'm the person for you'. Whether this is how it is in the original Thai, I don't know, but from an English perspective, I like the subliminal messgage in what Pran says.

I can't get over how brave Pran is in all this - openly saying things like "Are you my boyfriend?"; "Do you still want to see the moon with me?"; and "Thank you so much for the dumplings". I guess his philosophy is to be so overt with it that Pat can't possibly guess that these things are exactly what Pran would like.

Look, I know that picture on Pran's dorm wall is there because of the architectural 'design' of it...but that's a lot of blue existing in Pran's space...and it's seen a lot in a scene where Pat is outside and Pran gets teased for it by his friends (even though they don't know it's Pat)...just sayin'... Oh! And then, of course, Pat's dad brings a big ole bit of red into Pat's room in the next scene!

I just love the way Pran goes into Pat's room gunning for a fight but gets completely thrown when Pat actually apologises and tries to be accommodating. It's easier to bicker about things than to find a solution to their problems. And finding a solution requires them to be genuine and open with each other, which Pran isn't quite ready to do yet with Pat. Or he's not quite ready for Pat to do that with him. So he turns it back into a bickering match because that's their 'safe space', it's all they've known really.

Also, I don't think this has ever been mentioned but I do find it funny that there's no way in hell that Pran is actually hiding under Pat's bed because it is way too low to the floor...they must have mocked up a 'bed' for the shots of his face. Maybe the show's budget didn't extend to making sure they had a bed high enough.

I've often thought the Thai word for 'responsibility' sounded like the Thai word for 'like', so I finally looked it up and it is in fact the same word: to like = ชอบ | chôp; and to be responsible = รับผิดชอบ | ráp pìt chôp. Huh. Linguistics is cool.

a young daughter , a little rose to complete the vision that her mother had dreamt of . little calla spent her days running through the gardens , chasing after her older siblings with her much shorter legs and squealing in glee once they plucked her up into their arms . sheltered , and wholly doted upon , the youngest of the allyrion children was not privy to much of the whispers that her mother dealt in — dark eyes occasionally peeking out from the pages of thick tomes , always with a smile , always with a warm bout of laughter . she knew no hardship , it was evident , and her heart remains full of love that would continue to spill over . her mother had use for them all — little calla had her place in their household , and it is to keep quiet and pretty , and distinctly out of the way until she was to be sold off to the highest bidder .

however , the lack of hardship and the pretty stories that had filled her head had made her brave . . . to a fault . she leaps without looking , and runs without care , words always spoken with passion and heart — nothing is ever half - meant . calla speaks with the conviction of someone who had lived a thousand lives despite barely having one of her own , adopting the adventures and feelings written upon the page by strangers into her heart and mind . she studies with rapt attention , always , enriching her mind within the gilded gates of the beautiful garden of her mind . it will one day matter , she thinks , and until that day she will continue in her quest .

but it had all gone wrong .

finally , she was old enough to see the flicker of change in her mother's expression once her eldest brother entered the room . she was quiet and perceptive enough to realise just what it had meant when he disappeared to go off on adventures and the rest of them were kept under lock and key . still , one could not grow out of naivety without hardship —  and calla had little to none ! she believed in her mother implicitly and loved her all the same . the way she loved her eldest brother and the late father they shared .

in the last gasps of girlhood , she remembered trystane coming thundering down the halls of their home after a long journey — decidedly without his usual jovial smile and astonishing stories of his adventures . it had made her pout after him , only to be thrown into her rooms without further explanation . everything started to crumble before it crashed in a whirlwind . her mother was swiftly executed by her brother's hand and the calls for the rest of her children to join her grew stronger with every passing day . calla fell terrified of her eldest brother despite of how much she still loved him —  she was at his vengeful mercy .

so she did what she does best . for seven years after her mother's death , calla stayed out of the way —  refusing to take sides between her siblings and proclaimed her loyalty to them all without fail . she delved deeper into her books , courageous only her mind . there was no telling where her life might lead now as trystane held the helm , the last vestiges of her courage had withered away once confronted with a chance to converse with her brother in any meaningful way .

older now , although not necessarily wiser , she must quickly realise that perhaps cowering in fear would do her no favours . calla must make a choice : to find comfort in the last family she had left or venture away from the gilded fences of her home , at long last .

this was sitting in my notes app and i didn't think it would ever see the light of day but here we are. mostly cause i have nothing else in my head right now

Nico unlocked the door and entered the house you two shared. It was pitch dark except for whatever light was coming through the window from the moon. He toed off his shoes and set down his bags before making his way towards the kitchen.  

He checked the microwave for a plate of food that you usually left there for him when you knew he was coming home but, like it was for the last couple of weeks, it sat empty. Nico sighed, going towards the fridge where the leftovers sat and popping the tupperware container into the microwave.     Nico hated the place you two were at. There was a time where you'd stay up for him or if you had to be up early the next day, you'd leave a couple of lights on, food in the microwave already plated, leave a change of clothes for him in the bathroom, and even got a little night light for the bedroom after he had stubbed his toe a couple times trying to navigate through the dark without waking you.     Now, he came home to darkness and food in the fridge waiting to be plated. The night light was still there but the bulb was dimming and needed to be replaced, which meant his search for clothes to sleep in was getting a little harder.     It wasn't like it was all one way. He did things for you too ranging from picking up the groceries when he knew there wasn't time for you to do it or dropping off a sandwich for you on your lunch break. It was a giving relationship on both ends but at some point, it just switched where you two just didn't have time for those things or each other.     The beeping from the microwave drew Nico from his thoughts and he pulled out his dinner before putting the lid back on and tossing it back into the fridge, no longer hungry. He made his way down the hall and into the bedroom where you were sleeping, making his way slowly and carefully through the room and towards the dresser. He reached over and grabbed the pajamas off the top of the dresser that he pulled out earlier this morning while you were at work, sick of ransacking through the clothes in the dark.     He made his way into the bathroom and closed the door, changing before brushing his teeth and heading back out.     Hr climbed into bed under the covers, wrapping an arm around you as he sighed once more.     "I miss you." Nico whispered, closing his eyes and drifting off into a dreamless sleep.

Sympathetic Magick

This is that.

A specific object is chosen to represent the target of a spell. Through sympathetic magick, this object actually ‘becomes’ the target. Whatever happens to this object, happens to the target.

The most common form of this magick, and the one I have personally used the most, are poppets-- those infamous dollies of hoodoo fame. A poppet does not just represent the 

target, it actually becomes the target, with the addition of personal items and effects belonging to the subject, secret rituals to breathe it to life, and the movement of magical energy to manifest and transform the very being of this cloth creation into the flesh and blood essence of your target. This is why it’s so important to keep these poppets in secure safe locations.

Comparative Magick

·       A relationship and connection between a magickal object or objective are associated with and represented by a specific item or items.

A good example of this type of magick would be the Witches’ Bottle. Say for instance that you want to create a bottle to draw money and wealth. You would add to this bottle a number of items, all designed to draw the energy of money and wealth to the bottle, and thus to you. These items would include coins and paper money, herbs for wealth and prosperity, stones, and personal talismans. This bottle is, in effect, representative of your desires and your objective, which is to draw money to yourself. And it will do just that.

Directive Magick

This affects that.

·       This magick raises energy while the practitioner focuses and visualizes their goal and uses an item or items to move this energy toward manifestation.

The most common form of this magick, and the easiest to work, is candle magick. The candle is imbued with the energy of your goal by carving various symbols and sigils upon it, dressing it with oils and rolling it in herbs that carry the energy of your intentions. As the candle is consumed by the flame, you will maintain a visualization of the end results of this spell, so your goals and intentions are sent out into the universe and the cosmos with lightning speed and absolute assurance of magickal manifestation.

Transference Magick

·       Transference magick moves a malevolent energy out of one object or individual and into something or someone else.

The mildest example of this type of magick would be protective magick utilized to block negative energy or to send it back to its source. A more intense form of Transference Magick would be an exorcism; and the most extreme form would be a hex or a curse.

The Infamous Vacuum

The rule is-- if you empty a space, creating a vacuum, something else will fill this space. This is true not only from a magickal perspective, but from a mundane vantage point as well-- it’s called physics. The thing is that once you’ve emptied this space, i.e. banishing something/someone, you have no control over what is going to fill this vacuum which you have created.

I learned this pointedly through an interesting lesson.We used to have a neighbor who lived behind us, a rather unusual elderly man whose behavior was becoming consistently more erratic as time went on. Until we put a fence up between our properties, he would set his self-propelled tractor sprinkler in the middle of our basketball court as it’s starting point. My children didn’t like this and neither did I. If I wanted to water my lawn, I was perfectly capable of doing it myself. He was a cross-dresser, which is really beside the point, but it’s an intriguing fact that I’m going to toss in anyway. I remember many a morning, up early for my first cup of coffee, I’d step out onto the back porch, and there was 

this man, his garage lit up like a circus, just climbing into his car wearing a white skirt, a red sweater and heels to match. He was off to the local café for breakfast.

It was when he began mowing his lawn in nothing but briefs and tennis shoes that I became concerned. “Briefs” is a generous description for what he wore. Let’s say that there was just enough material to cover the necessities-- barely. My girls were younger at the time, and I really didn’t feel that they needed this show, and neither did they, it was a little too much.

I decided that it was time for this man to take a hike. So, I rolled up my sleeves, put a whopping banishing spell together, and gave this guy a magickal punch to his mid-section. Within a moon phase, he was gone. 

I was feeling quite pleased with my big old powerful witchy self, when I came through the kitchen one morning to find my husband standing at the backdoor, his nose pressed to the glass, peering over the fence, into the ex-neighbor’s back yard.

“What are you looking at?”, I asked.

“The new neighbor.” he says.

I wanted to see what was capturing his attention, so I took a look myself. There in the backyard, bouncing merrily along on a huge riding mower, was a very petite gorgeous tanned blonde woman in a very tiny pink bikini.

"Hekate’s reputation in post-classical literature, and predominantly in scholarship, is that of a malevolent sorceress with strong links to the moon and the Underworld, and this sometimes leads to her being called ‘chthonic’. George Warr, for example, comments that ‘it is amply established by literary and archaeological evidence that this lunar goddess owed her real dignity to chthonic attributes’. He does not detail this ‘ample’ evidence. In fact, quite contrary to his statement, he discussed her apportionment of honours in Hesiod’s Theogony with a specific acknowledgement that her realm of influence does not extend to the Underworld. This is indicative of a general tendency to associate Hekate with lunar aspects, which is sometimes (but not always) interpreted as her being ‘chthonic’. Karl Kerényi asserts that Hekate is a ‘reappearance’ of Phoibe, giving her a lunar aspect. But this is a hasty (and erroneous) assumption, as Hekate does not have a strong, verifiable association with the moon until the Roman period. The majority of evidence pointing to this connection has been extrapolated from later information. For example, the connection between Hekate and torches has been read as having a nocturnal, and therefore lunar (and ‘chthonic’), subtext, but no such connotation is read into Demeter’s well-established association with the torch. J. Rabinowitz conjectures that this ‘reverse reading’ has been made because the Greek pantheon did not provide a strong, well-established, and developed moon goddess. And, although Luna was central to Roman religion, the Roman’s did rely heavily on the Greek pantheon as a template for literature and art.

Fritz Graf has argued that early forms of Hekate were associated with passages through a period of liminality, which would explain her role as a guide for young women through transitionary parts of life. Hekate assists Persephone through a kind of marriage-related rite-of-passage, a liminal period in the Homeric Hymn to Demeter. But rather than signifying an Underworld association, her role is as an intermediary between Persephone’s stages of maturity. This transitionary aspect informs her role as an intermediary between gods and men, which Jenny Straus Clay believes is one of the key attributes of her unusual appearance in the Theogony.

Many scholars now agree on Hekate’s non-Greek heritage, placing her origin in western Asia Minor, probably Karia. By the fifth century BCE, at least, cults dedicated to Hekate had been established in Greece and she was being actively worshipped in Aegina, Selinous, and Athens. There appears to be no earlier archaeological evidence from mainland Greece for Hekate worship, but there is evidence for worship in Asia Minor. Hekate must have been known to the Greeks prior to this, and perhaps as early as 700 BCE, as her appearance in the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, and Hesiod’s Theogony and Catalogue of Women confirm.

Hesiod introduces Hekate at about the mid-point of the Theogony. The passage is forty-one lines in length, and tells the story of Hekate’s birth, history, influences, and powers. It details more divine-human interaction than any other section of the poem, and grants Hekate increased power, even though the majority of goddesses have their powers reduced by Zeus. The so-called ‘Hymn to Hekate’ can be briefly summed up as follows: 411: Hekate is presented as the daughter of Asteria and Perses 412–415: Zeus gives Hekate a share of the earth, sea, and heaven 416–418: People always invoke Hekate in prayers and rituals 418–421: Hekate grants favours to people who honour her 422–425: Zeus allows Hekate to keep her Titanic honours 426–428: Hekate assists in the judgement of men 429–447: Hekate blesses those whom she favours, which specifically include kings (430, 434), warriors (431–433), athletes (435–438), cavalrymen (439), and fishermen (440–442) 448–449: Hekate is honoured by the Olympian gods even though she is an only child 450–452: Hekate is kourotrophos (nursemaid) to all living creatures. What is notably missing from this section is any reference to attributes that are prominent in later authors, including any typical Underworld-related characteristics, lunar association, magical traits, mentions of cross-roads, torches, or the triple-guise."
