everything you need to make your own personal beauty binder 🎀
disclaimer: this post is heavily inspired by @tomb-of-ligeia and @daphne-dauphinoise, and early 2010s beauty youtubers. it’s always kind to credit your inspo <3
inspired by the lookbooks and makeup charts used by makeup artists designers at high fashion runways shows and childhood bratz coloring and activity books. the law of attraction is at use heavily with this binder (writing down goals and wishlists)!
you should be keeping diy recipes you find in here.
*you don’t need a physical binder. some people function better with digital mediums. i prefer anything physical and concrete. but you can do all this in something like a notion, or your notes app, etc.
why? 🎀
a cute girly hobby (esp for type A, anal retentive, or analytical personalities/extremely creative, hands on people) to keep track of your routines, motivate you to keep yourself maintained, and figure out what works best for you. it’s nothing too serious, just a girly pastime for people that maybe buy too many products, slip up on routines, or don’t what looks best on your features. have fun!
what to record in your binder? 🎀
an intro sheet 10 different topics divided by tabbed sections: your personal features, makeup, body, fashion, skincare, hair, fragrance, nails, treatments/procedures, salons/spas/referrals/contacts 🎀
intro sheet 🎀
here, you should keep your goals, desired look, and how you want to perceive yourself.
your personal features
a chart of your color season. mine is cool winter. you can use color season for whatever, i choose to apply it to my makeup.
your natural body shape. this will help you choose the best clothes to flatter your silhouette.
a close up, unfiltered clear photo of your bare face. note your skin type, color, undertone, and any other things that stand out to you.
note what you wanna enhance and what you wanna improve. this will help throughout your binder.
makeup
put on a light layer of every lipstick/lip gloss/etc. you have and make kiss shaped swatches in your binder. note the shade, brand, and finish. then the mood/occasion in which you’d wear it.
swatch all your lip liners, again leaving the details of the product.
swatch your foundation shades. note the finish, name and brand.
make a sheet dedicated to all your “holy grail”, essential products.
swatch your eyeshadow palettes. i have all my shimmer pigments swatches and it’s the prettiest thing to look at.
do you have any go to makeup looks? your casual look, going out look, no makeup makeup look, etc.? do these looks and take high quality pics. make personalized face charts by printing them out and noting the steps and products you used.
take c*nty pics of your lashes after trying on all your mascaras/falsies. note the effects and when you would be most likely to wear them.
print out any pics of interesting makeup looks and products you wanna try.
try on lip combos and kiss swatch them. i’m doing this because i do amazing lip combos all the time but i forget which products i used, and it’s hard to replicate the look.
body
take a stick figure-esque picture of yourself and print it out. any outfit you want to buy, print and clip it out first and see if it’s something you’d wear and actually like.
are you experiencing any skin issues on your body and trying any products? keep track of the issue and how the products are doing.
if you don’t already have one, brainstorm workout routines and general wellness/fitness goals.
what are your fav body products? what products did you buy, and hate? TRACK THEM!
any detoxes/diets you’re doing should be recorded in this section.
record “beauty enhancing” foods and drinks here. mine include matcha, lemon water and acv shots.
fashion
outfit planning! take pics of pieces you already have and clip them out. (i’m doing this currently and keeping them all in a little pocket in my binder).
make a moodboard of your personal style(s). how do you want your closet to look? try to see what details, colors, additions are consistent throughout. when shopping, these are what you should keep track of.
print out your signature clothing color palette if you want to have one.
dedicate a page to accessories you have/want, and how you’d style them.
*this can be expensive but the fashion girls will prob love this* go to the fabric store and buy little swatches that you like. take note of what the fabric is and why you like it.
dedicate a page to all your signature details. all the little specific things that scream YOU and NO ONE else! that means do not write pink, girly, etc. here. that is not exclusive to you, hun.
skincare
take a current filter free photo (make it glam! tie your hair up in a ballerina bun and put on some cute earrings) of the state of your skin. if your skin is perfect, i’m jealous and how does it feel to be god’s fav? if not what problems are you experiencing?
log your current skincare routines and how they’re working.
make a page for your skin type, how it feels when you wake up and how it feels and looks by the end of the day and research tips to deal with your personal skin type.
skincare wishlist! list any products you wanna try and what they are for. sample them from ulta or sephora if it’s possible.
dedicate a page to the skincare ingredients your skin loves the MOST! mine are retinol, bha, and vitamin c.
i have a page for all the extra cute little skincare devices i want. on it there’s a stainless steel gua sha, an ice pack, facial steamer, and pink foreo.
hair
what’s your hair type, density, porosity and curl pattern?
write down any hair goals you have. mine is frizz free tailbone length caramel brown hair with honey blonde highlights by the end of this year.
what’s your signature hairstyle? do you have a signature? brainstorm here.
clip out hairstyle inspo from pinterest and insta and try to recreate all the looks!
what are your fav hair products? i keep track of the best curling creams and leave in conditioners for my hair personally.
take note of any trending products you wanna try.
fragrance
make a moodboard of how you wanna smell. after this, research notes and how they work together.
now track your fav perfumes, your most complimented, etc.
note what fragrances go with what occasion and how they make you feel.
make your perfume wishlist! my fav part!
nails
swatch all your polishes. label them and their finish.
what’s your signature/go to nail look?
do you have any pics of your fav mani + pedis? print them out and write the details you loved the most.
write down your at home mani and pedi routine and it’s frequency.
write your fav colors and styles to wear on your nails. mine are glittery pink, pale pink, white, cream, french tip and pink frenchie. a hyper girly twist on the classics.
treatments/procedures
take note of any surgeries or procedures you want done and what they do.
anything you leave the house to have done regularly, keep track here.
don’t limit yourself! forget your budget! what are some high maintenance treatments you wanna experience? manifest it.
references
write down the sources of which you find great info for beauty and fashion
keep addresses of your fav salons and spas.
keep business contacts of your fav estheticians, stylists, nail techs, etc.
use my branding yourself guide to assist in your beauty binder! so much inspo and so many good resources! 🎀

Hello! Can I request the perfume scenario but with Soundwave this time, please? 🥺 I really admire your works! Hope you have a nice day <3
For Soundwave the small drifting fragrance has him stopping in his traces instantly it doesn't matter what he is doing or where he is, the moment he even detects the perfume he knows its you, knows it by the subtle scent of your skin that is enhanced by the perfume. He leaves whatever he is doing to track you down. It doesn't matter if it's checking cameras, spying on his targets, or in a meeting with the Decepticon higher-ups. He will make quite a show of it with leaving meetings because the others can smell it too, and they watch like hawks as he walks out, knowing full well where the Communications officer was heading.
Soundwave is a rather smug mech. He won't voice it, but he is very smug, but he's also very willing to put other bots into their place. So when he arrives back at his quarters and can see other bots sniffing around, all he needs is to send a high-powered static pulse from his EM field before they are scurrying away. But the moment he enters his quarters, it's a different mood.
Soundwave is one of a few cybertronian who have enough resolve not to pounce. He enjoys playing and toying with you. He will pretend to ignore you while he pours him a glass of high grade before he makes himself comfortable in his seat. He will retract his mask as he slowly sips his drink, watching the way you squirm under his gaze.
He's a smug mech becuase he will have you begging in his lap without even saying anything to you and without even touching you, he will even hold out his drink for you to swirl your hand in before his glossa is picking the high grade off your arm and then wait for you to reapply the perfume. If energon hadn't been dangerous to the human nerves system, he would have had you laying in a bowl of energon for his own pleasure, but he would settle for the safer option. Sometimes, he will even use you as his own personal snack plate, with carbon swirls, magnesium and bismuth crunches, and even energon and Galium crystal candies.
That's how you end up sitting on his spike. He continues to enjoy his drink. Watching the way you move and take him. This was his guilty pleasure, using perfume, high grade, and your skins pheromones as his own way of riding a high. He's a tender lover and makes sure you're satisfied by the end.
For Soundwave, you don't smell or taste like his favourite treat. You are the treat. He loves the blended mix of your skin, perfume, and high grade mixed together.

Tip of the World Tuesday: Issue One: Magic and Magician: Bianca and Sephiroth's Dreamscape
For this Tip of the World Tuesday, I decided to focus on the dreamscape that Sephiroth created for Bianca during her captivity by Diana, Hojo, and Shinra. This was originally created to break her emotionally, so Sephiroth could twist her for his grand scheme, but it evolved into a place where they could just be themselves as their relationship post-Nibelheim Incident unfolded.
The dreamscape is bathed in soft, silver moonlight that cast long, ethereal shadows. This symbolizes the balance Bianca’s celestial heritage and Sephiroth’s connection to darkness. The moonlight enhances the dreamlike quality of the setting, making it a realm outside of the boundaries of time.
The sky above the dreamscape is filled with constellations that move and shimmer like living entities. These celestial patterns sometimes align to tell stories from Bianca’s past or Sephiroth’s dreams of reshaping existence, offering a shared reflection of their inner worlds.
The dreamscape reacts to the emotions of both Bianca and Sephiroth. When she feels joy, the celestial flowers bloom and fill the air with a soothing fragrance. When he is contemplative or troubled, the shadows deepen and the stars ahead dim slightly, creating a reflection of their soul-bond and moods.
The dreamscape fuses elements of the Celestial Realm, Bianca’s afterlife, with echoes of the North Crater, Sephiroth’s dominion. Majestic waterfalls pour starlight instead of water and the ground will alternate between soft glass and reflective, snow-covered obsidian.
At the heart of the dreamscape lies a mystical garden that Bianca bends. Each plant represents a shared memory or significant moment between them. The garden is enchanted. When touched, the plants replay emotions and scenes tied to the memory , serving as some sort of living testament to their evolving relationship and Bianca’s descent into darkness, her own madness, and personality shift.

What's your hc for Vlad and Danny' scents in ghost omegaverse AU?
I'm something of an aromaphile, anon, so this couldn't have been a better ask :)
Vlad 🌳🌹🥃
Diverging slightly from Vlad's fanon fire core theory, I don't imagine him smelling like a straight-up brush fire, but rather the things that burn easiest, namely wood.
Strong, warm, determined.
Vlad's scent profile is predominantly woody (cedar, leather, aged oak) and aromatic (grassy, herbaceous, slightly spicy, like rosemary), with medium floral notes of rose, vanilla and cinnamon, topped very lightly with something tart to "bite" through all those other powerful scents and stitch them together—I'm thinking black currant or cranberry.
These scents aren't "hot" on their own, but when combined produce a very heady, warm accord that can be enhanced or lightened depending on whatever mood Vlad is in. When he's aroused (meaning angry or alarmed, not just sexually excited), his scent can become acrid and smoky, a figurative "flame" igniting his natural base scents. When relaxed or in a state of bliss, those sugary vanilla and rose notes become very pronounced.
Danny 🌊🍃🍊
Like Vlad, I'm going less with a de facto "cold, icy" profile and paring it back to things that freeze well. Specifically, things with a high water content. Think fruit, water flowers and trees that grow in wet environments.
Sparkling, fresh, adaptable.
Danny's base scent is marine/oceanic (bamboo, jasmine, salt musk) with a medium range of citrus and wood (orange, lemongrass, rosewood), and a sweet, flowery finish of orange blossom and honeysuckle.
Did you know that cold weather makes for sweeter oranges? And oranges are, compared to other citrus, very sweet, but still citrusy enough to be refreshing. Their blossoms smell wonderful, too. Perfect for Danny, in my opinion.
When Danny is experiencing negative emotions, the medium range of his scent deepens, becoming sharp and heavy (think burnt wood and acidic lemons). When he's pleased, his floral scent blooms, carried by a strong wave of salt and grass.
For reference, here's a fragrance wheel:
And here's a fragrance dictionary that will explain some of these terms better, and other people can always use it to develop complex and detailed character scents outside of food items. (I mean. If my mate smells like raw, yeasty dough, I'm either sending him to the doctor or putting him back in the oven lol.)
In the omegaverse I like the idea that scents change with age and health, just like humans. But a scent is still recognizable as unique to that person, even though puberty and presentation and current emotional state may alter its chemical composition slightly. Five year-old Danny will smell different from 18 year-old Danny, but those base notes are still present.

Fall Bedroom Makeover: A Step-by-Step Guide To Transforming Your Bedroom Into A Cozy Fall Haven
As the leaves change color and the air turns crisp, it's time to bring the cozy fall vibes into your bedroom. Creating a warm and inviting space where you can unwind and relax is essential during this season. In this blog post, we'll guide you through transforming your bedroom into a cozy enclave that will make you never want to leave. Get ready to embrace the fall season with open arms!
Choose Warm And Earthy Colors
To infuse your bedroom with the essence of fall, start by selecting warm and earthy colors. Opt for shades like deep reds, burnt oranges, warm browns, and mustard yellows. These colors will instantly create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Layer Up With Textiles
Fall is all about getting cozy, so layering your bed with plush blankets, soft duvets, and fluffy pillows is a must. Choose textiles in rich fabrics like velvet, faux fur, or chunky knits to add warmth and texture to your space. Remember to include a few decorative throw pillows for that extra touch of comfort.
Bring Nature Indoors
Embrace the beauty of the season by incorporating natural elements into your bedroom. Display a vase of dried flowers, arrange a few autumnal branches in a corner, or place a bowl of pinecones on your nightstand. These simple additions will bring a touch of nature and create a serene ambiance.
Set The Mood With Lighting
Lighting plays a crucial role in creating a cozy atmosphere. Opt for warm, soft lighting by using table lamps, string lights, or candles. Consider adding a dimmer switch to your primary light source to create a more intimate and relaxing ambiance. Remember to place a few scented candles around the room to fill the air with comforting fall fragrances.
Add Seasonal Decor
To truly embrace the fall season, incorporate seasonal decor into your bedroom. Hang a wreath on your door, place a pumpkin or two on your dresser, or drape fairy lights over a mirror. These small touches will instantly make your space feel festive and cozy.
Create A Reading Nook
Fall is the perfect time to curl up with a good book. Create a cozy reading nook in the corner of your bedroom by adding a comfortable chair or a chaise lounge. Enhance the space with a soft blanket, a side table for your hot beverage, and a bookshelf filled with your favorite reads. This little sanctuary will become your go-to spot for relaxation.
In Conclusion
By following these simple steps, you can transform your bedroom into a cozy enclave that exudes the warmth and comfort of fall. Embrace the season by incorporating warm colors, soft textiles, natural elements, and ambient lighting. Remember to add seasonal decor and create a reading nook for ultimate relaxation. With these tips, you'll have a bedroom perfect for snuggling up and enjoying the beauty of autumn.
Remember, fall is all about embracing coziness, so take the time to create a space that truly reflects your style and brings you joy. Happy nesting!

Meta: Qualitea in the Orr Empire
Let’s talk tea customs of the Orr Empire. As an avid lover of tea myself, reading Turning was quite entertaining as I could project all my silly little tea headcanons on the characters (but ask me about those another time). From early on in the novel, we see that the Orr Empire does have a distinct tea culture, so this meta will take a look at what teas they drink, what their tea culture looks like, and how skilled our protagonists are at preparing tea (spoiler: they’re not. Everyone say “thank you, Nathan”, the only one who knows how to make a good cup of tea.)
Tea
Tea is a pretty common drink in the Orr Empire, but first, we have to talk about what tea it even is. Now, if you want to be precise and a snob, tea, as per merriam-websters first definition, is “a widely cultivated shrub (Camellia sinensis of the family Theaceae, the tea family) native to China, northern India, and southeastern Asia and having glossy green leaves and fragrant white flowers” and “the leaves, leaf buds, and internodes of the tea plant prepared for use in beverages usually by immediate curing by heat or by such curing following a period of fermentation”. Thus, tea, as a drink, is “an aromatic beverage prepared from tea leaves by soaking them in boiling water”. According to this first definition, tea refers only to the tea plant.
In the Orr Empire, we do know that the tea plant actually exists. In chapter 39, Kishiar makes tea for Yuder specifically using tea leaves and in chapter 51, it is mentioned that Keilusa drinks a “black tea giving off a unique aroma”.
In the Orr Empire, the beverage tea is also made by using “any of various plants“ like tea, which means preparing them “by soaking their parts (such as leaves or roots)“.
So what teas do they drink in the Orr Empire?
Fresh chamomile, which is in season at the start of the novel (Chapter 16)
Black tea (Chapter 51)
Tea made from the leaves of a medicinal herb Rosa Faria la Orr cultivates (Chapter 58)
Tea made from a flower with an “extraordinarily fresh and cool scent” by pouring boiling water over it. The flower grows near Pearl Tower and helps with sleep deprivation, headaches and can be analgesic (Chapter 113, 143).
Tea blends (Chapter 143, 162)
Peppermint tea with honey (Chapter 162)
Tea made of the fluaville flower, which thrives on a barren mountain, devoid of sunlight, rain, and fertile soil (Chapter 167)
Cold tea made of ponegri, which is won by diluting the potent narcotic components of the ponesa plant to edible levels. It reduces pain and has mood-enhancing effects, as well as dulling the surroundings. (Chapter 205)
Bitter herbal teas for medicinal reasons (Chapter 403)
A pale red tea that might be black tea or a rooibos of some kind (Chapter 602)
A Southern tea with mingled sweet fruit and floral scents, rich in aroma and a yellow color. It is probably a green tea blend. (Chapter 919)
If you look at this – dare I say complete – list, you can roughly distinguish between teas drunk for pleasure, which seems to include teas made from the tea plant always, as well as some herbal, predominantly floral teas, and medicinal teas.
The rather high mention of medicinal teas is very much Keilusa la Orr’s fault, who drinks tea predominantly to help with his health condition. It’s also the only time something like honey is added to the tea. Adding milk, for example, isn’t mentioned at all! We also know that there exist teas of varying qualities and that nobles tend to drink higher-quality tea (Chapter 39).
Funnily enough, tea is generally regarded as a warm beverage, you want to drink it hot (Chapter 468). The only exception so far appears to be Katchian’s ponegri tea, which he drinks cold (Chapter 205).
How do you drink tea in the Orr Empire?
Well, first of all, they use teacups and pots! While this might seem like a small detail to you, a proper teacup is shaped to enhance the flavor and fragrance of the tea. Teacups tend to be lighter than coffee mugs and have a broader surface. While they are never particularly described in the novel, besides the note that they are made of porcelain (Chapter 15) the specification that they are for tea is enough to let us conclude that you don’t just drink tea, but that there is a culture associated with it.
Tea Culture in the Orr Empire
Drinking tea, when not for medicinal purposes, is a pleasure drink and appears to be mainly a social convention in the Orr Empire, which also makes it a good gift (Chapter 223). An invitation for tea is an invitation to socialize and get to know another person. Kishiar’s tea sets are made from “beautiful porcelain” (Chapter 15) and there is an art to gracefully preparing tea (Chapter 39, 223, 979). Having tea is not just a nice get-together, even when Duke Diarca enjoys a cup of tea with his close friends (Chapter 385), the preparation method matters. Similarly, even if Kishiar has Nathan fetch cookies, cakes and other sweets because of Yuder’s sweet tooth, it seems to be common to have snacks while having tea. Having popular and famous sweets that complement your tea while you drink it is simply good manners (352).
But the Orr Empire wouldn’t be the Orr Empire if there wasn’t also a class divide about it. Kishiar notes early on that Yuder “won’t have many opportunities to drink tea [he’s] personally prepared” (Chapter 39). Disregarding that this is a fucking lie on Kishiar’s part, the point he, most likely, is trying to refer to here, is that Kishiar, who both as a Duke and thus part of the nobility as well as Yuder’s superior, would not typically make tea for his subordinate.
This holds true for most of the little tea sessions we see in the novel! Nathan prepares Kishiar’s tea (Chapter 16, 58, and most other times Kishiar has tea), the servants of House Apeto prepare the tea for the Cavalry (Chapter 133), Katchian’s servants prepare him his tea (Chapter 205), Yuliver makes Keilusa’s tea (Chapter 303). While all of this is of course also expected of servants, it is also a show of trust as Kishiar points out himself, after all, it would be very easy to poison your employer’s tea (Chapter 16).
We also see that offering tea to your guests is polite, that is if you don’t make them wait for ages as the Apeto do with the Cavalry (Chapter 233). Kiolle also assumes that he’s grown closer to Katchian because they regularly drink tea together (Chapter 586).
So, much like in our world, drinking tea in the Orr Empire is not just necessarily having a cup of tea, but has a rich history.
How do I make a perfect cup of tea aka Kishiyu Cringefail Tea
Kishiar looks graceful preparing tea, but he does not, as far as I can tell, actually make a good cup of tea. Well, so how does one make a good cup of tea?
“Please, take a seat.” After roughly sprinkling the tea leaves that Kanna had once forced onto the two tea cups, a small movement of his finger formed two droplets of water in the air. The droplets divided into two streams, filling each cup. With another flick of his hand, the tea heated to a suitable temperature, steaming in the cups. Looking down at the steamy tea cup, Yuder lightly pushed one toward Kishiar. “Wait until the aroma comes out before you drink.” “You are remarkably efficient in brewing tea. Nathan would be disappointed if he saw this.” “If you have the skill, why not use it?” (Chapter 223)
Well, not like this obviously. Hilariously enough, Kishiar makes tea just the same – scooping leaves into the pot and boiling it after. So according to Nathan’s expert opinion, this is not how you’re supposed to prepare them.
The only prominent life tea culture I could find, by the way, where you boil the tea leaves with the water is the Egyptian Saiidi tea, but that one is sweetened with sugar, and neither Kishiar nor Yuder do that, so I stand by my argument that they both just prepare terrible tea.

Bradley: Heh, isn't it great? I picked it up on the fly. That's right. While you’re at it, whip up some snacks with this too, yeah? When ya use this in meat dishes, it gives off a fragrance like baked apples and enhances the flavor of the ingredients. I'll sneak some meat from the kitchen.
Shylock: You bad man. But it sounds like fun and thrilling to sneak into the kitchen and avoid Nero's eyes.
Bradley: Right? So, let's get started right away...
Shylock: But I'm afraid I must decline. I have decided to use this herb for herbal wine, not meat dishes.
Bradley: Wine? Meat is what ya should use this herb for.
Shylock: No, for me, the most beautiful way to showcase this herb is through alcohol. Under the soft caress of moonlight, countless nights are spent gently roasting herbs by the flickering flame of a match, their essence coaxed out and infused into my favorite wine...
Episode 2
Shylock: A refreshing clarity like morning dew, and a deep, lingering taste like a sweet rendezvous with an unforgettable lady. As I indulge in the sweet and mellow taste that moistens my throat, before I know it, the glass is empty. Left alone with the empty glass, the one who has learned of that sweet taste cannot help but crave it just one more time. As if trapped in the whirlpool of a tide.
Bradley: Ha! So ya can't escape that trap either.
Shylock: Yes. I’m sure that if I turn it into wine, I can make you even happier… Because of that, I can't bear to use such precious herbs for anything else, as a bar owner.
Bradley: I see. That's a story worth listening to. But what if I still told you to use it for meat? I'm in the mood for a hearty meal right now.
Shylock: Then I'll have to close the bar.
Bradley: …Ahaha! You're a stubborn bastard too, ya know? But you’re right. Only those who appreciate your aesthetic should come to this place. ….Take it.
Shylock: Oh, are you sure you want to give this herb to me?
Bradley: Yeah. Your story has filled me up. Instead, I'm hankering for a sip of your best hooch, even if it takes forever. This herb should cover the cost, alright?
Shylock: Of course. I'll make you a delicious herbal wine. Please wait for that day with anticipation.
Card Episode: About the Herb
Akira: Shylock, why did you invite me to the bar today?
Shylock: I made herbal wine using the rare herb that Bradley gave me. I also made a non-alcoholic version, so if you like, I'd be honored if you would try it, Sir Sage.
Akira: Wow...Thank you! I'm looking forward to trying this rare drink! Oh, by the way, the other day, Bradley treated me to herb-sautéed meat. He said it was a rare herb, but could it be the same one?
Shylock: Oh, do you remember the flavor of that herb?
Akira: Yes. It had a sweet, apple-like aroma and was delicious. I felt like I could eat it forever if I cooked meat with that herb!
Shylock: I see...so that’s what happened.
Shylock: ….Hehe. That means he didn’t give me all, huh? Such an unreadable man.
Akira: Huh? What do you mean?
Shylock: Oh, I'm just mumbling about what you told me. ...Well then, Sir Sage. Here is the drink made with the herb you mentioned. I will bring you an experience that rivals the herb sauté.
******
Home Screen Voice: Oh, there's a scratch on the bar shelf... It seems Murr has gnawed on it. Perhaps he learned that there is a jar of delicious nuts back there. I'll give him a little bit as a snack tonight.

A Little Legendborn/Bloodmarked Scent Theory Part Two
William Sitterson scent profile - Citrus/Fresh
“The infirmary is William’s domain. He strides between the tables, his hands coated in silver aether so thick it looks like mercury. The bright citrus smell of his aether signature fills the room.”
What can I say, I love William and his sunny, yet firm disposition. Fruit in the citrus family include oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit, kumquat, clementine, pomelo…you get the idea.
Citrus - Citrus oils and resins have the power to uplift our mood and bring peace to a space. Think of all the household cleaners you use, how many of them have a citrus profile? Ever wonder why you gravitate towards those scents? Citrus has been used in many cultures for centuries and has healing and therapeutic benefits. It is no wonder William is one of the few people that can calm Sel down in the heat of anger. He is like a gray-eyed Yoda, even-keeled and level. His tranquil sensibilities allow people to put their guard down and open up that much more. The history of the use of citrus in Ayurvedic medicine in India or in religious ceremonies in ancient Egypt is well documented for its ability to purify a space, bringing positive energy which promotes healing. The sweetness of this scent can reduce stress and anxiety.
My final cute William tidbit can be found in this quote:
“After a while, William hands me a lime-colored cloth handkerchief. I stare down at it, puzzled at the alarmingly bright fabric. I hear the smile in his voice. ‘It was my father’s. The line of Gawain is what discerning people call ‘ostentatious’.”
Limes - Limes and their oil represent the ability to cleanse the physical body and heal and purify the soul. Next time you are at Tarjay’, grab some of that lemon/lime-scented Mr. Clean and thank the Scion of Gawain.
Valechaz' scent profile - Soft Oriental, Dry Woods
“He leans into me slightly, and I get a whiff of something dark, spicy, and burning.”
“He steps nearer, until that leather and star-anise smell swirls thick in the air and my cheeks prickle.”
Valechaz’ scent profile is as spicy and sensual as he is. In my reading, I found that his scent calls back to a time of old (much like Incense Daddy Erebus, but more on that later) which is fitting for the 205 year-old most balanced Cambion in the region.
Leather- When used in perfume, leather scents are warm and rich, with a bit of musk. There are smoky and animalistic notes. Valec’s scent was described as burning (we know he brings the heat with him) and the way his eyes turn over red reminds me of a shark whose eyes turn over white before it bites. The scent of leather denotes luxury, sophistication, and masculinity (whatever that means to you). We know Valec is dressed to the nines daily, “Suited and booted” as the old folks used to say. He is also not to be trifled with as he has demonstrated he is 100% with the shits.
Star Anise- Sweet and licorice-y (yes, that is a word), star anise is spicy and intense. It is rich and exotic and is often added to oriental and gourmand fragrance compositions. Star anise compliments a variety of fragrances creating harmonious blends that have endless layering possibilities. Its presence enhances the overall scent, creates depth and complexity, and enables the creation of balanced, captivating fragrances.
The essence of Valec’s scent profile is luxurious, seductive, and balanced on the razor’s edge of ferocity.
Erebus Varelian- Scent Profile Woody Oriental or Woody Amber
“His aether signature surrounds me with scents I associate with ancient trees and holy places: myrrh and saps, incense burning.”
Erebus (affectionately known as Incense Daddy) is such an interesting and mysterious being. He is calculated and opportunistic, and I imagine he has not survived this long without brutal and unwavering tact and a bit of street smarts. His scent hints at his true identity and the power that lives within it.
Incense - Spicy, resinous, and woody, the smell of incense creates a mysterious, warm, richly scented experience. For eons incense has been used in cultural and religious practices dating back to ancient Egypt, China, and India. Its spicy, powdery notes are seductive (like Valechaz’) and smelling incense when none is present can denote spiritual presence or messages from the spiritual realm. Incense can be associated with protection and spiritual growth.
Myrrh - Myrrh tends to go hand in hand with incense. It is described as having a balsamic, spicy, smoky odor. Made from bleeding a Commiphora tree of its resin, in magical circles, myrrh is used with cleansing and purification rituals. It can also be combined with incense for protection against negative energy and rituals related to banishing and breaking curses.
It is no wonder Erebus’ scent is derived from tree resin. Trees hold powerful ancient symbolism (strength, growth, protection) and represent an interconnectedness of all living things. Erebus has been around the block in many iterations, hiding in plain sight. His scent profile calls back to a time when Gods walked amongst men.
“Dark hair, olive skin, a long black jacket, and an aether signature older than the ancients themselves. How many people has he killed, just to walk among us?”
I hope you’ve gotten a kick out of this as I have! What did you notice about the scent families? How do you think they are connected? I have linked part one below as well as my other contributions to this fun little series. Now go on out there and find an "Incense Daddy" to smell.
