Monthly Word Count Wrap-Up

August 2024

This was a rough month. It's been straight out of the AO3 author's note curse handbook over here. It was just an in the snow, uphill both ways, trek, lol.

I think I might need to just take a step back from participating in so many events, although I love them, and just focus on editing up the final part of All Across the Universe, and then go from there.

That's the one obligation I need to fulfill. I'm so sorry it's later than expected. I didn't want to work on it when my head wasn't in it.

This month, I wrote the least of any month this year so far:

But I still somehow worked on 13 different projects this month, for a total of 22,500 words. My 500 words a day streak is still alive. Barely. You can see on a lot of days, that I just pushed through writing until I hit my 500 words. Often, late at night, and on a new document that if it was nothing, it was nothing. I'll be interested to go back later and see if anything was worth expanding.

The last few days were finally better. I edited some on AATU. I wrote some on a couple different WIPs because I wanted to, not because I had a word count to hit. So, maybe this was just a fluke of a month and I'll be totally fine and back to normal moving forward. Or I'll need to just cut back. Time will tell, I suppose.

Either way, in August I averaged 725.81 words a day.

And the yearly average, sits at 1070.35 words per day.

October had only a "handful" of words to offer, compared to September's 100k+ words, but that's okay. It was mostly editing the fics for Whumptober, and starting a few snippets on some ideas.

Ok, so I was feeling really bad about how I haven't been reading that many regular books recently, but I felt like I was spending more time reading books than ever, so I decided to add up the word counts of everything I'd read this month to see if I was actually low.

I don't know what sort of number I expected to get, but it certainly wasn't

Words in January. And this is just fanfic. Granted, I counted rereads, which are always a bit faster, but still! That's so many fucking words! According to Google, that's rough 14 and a half novels! That's like a regular book every two days! It's an average of 37500 a day!

.... How much time am I spending on my phone? Ok, I know it's a lot but how much is fanfic? Let's see.

Apparently I spent just north of 75 and a half hours on Chrome this month, and had an average of 2 1/3 hours per day. So that's roughly 15.5k words per hour, 260 words per minute.

Lesson learned: im still reading an awful lot, and data collection on yourself is fun! Definitely going to become a monthly post, if only for archival purposes.

Monthly Word Count Wrap-Up

September 2024

This month saw the last part of All Across the Universe finally go up! Thanks so much to everyone that was so patient. I'm sad it's over, but it was so much fun to do all that research of different times in history. It was like writing many different fics in one.

But I am excited to dig into some of my WIPs, though! I have a handful that I'd like to finish someday. There is an emoji poll with a day or so left that you can vote in if you'd like to see a particular WIP get worked on.

October is here! And during the last week of October there's the 7 Deadly Sins Pop-Up Event over at @corrodedcoffinfest, so if you're interested in writing for it or reading those entries, please check out the post! Reblog, share, if you think you have friends that might enjoy it, too.

I worked on 11 different projects this month, for a total of 27,874 words. My 500 words a day streak is still alive. I'm not sure I'll do it next year. We'll see. Some days I'm just not as in the mood as others, and that's okay. But I've gotten this far, so I'm gonna try to see it through.

In September, I averaged 929.31 words a day.

And the yearly average, now sits at 1054.89 words per day.

I’ve decided to stop setting the “monthly goals”. Just the daily goals are better for me.

On the 8th, I wrote up the opening scene for a different story idea (it involves a solar eclipse, so I felt it was only appropriate). Don’t expect this one anytime soon, though — that story idea still has a lot of cooking to do.
