🌊💙 With a flick of its fabulous fins, this flapping flat fish flawlessly flutters, frolicking in a fascinating formation, flirting with a fleet of fishy friends. This whirling waltz, a whimsical water wobble, weaves in the wonder of finned finesse and fintastic fun. 🙃🐟

Putin’s endorsement of Trump’s Greenland takeover reflects their vision of a new world order
As the U.S. shifts its focus toward territorial expansion in the West, the Kremlin's backing signals a deeper alignment in their challenge to global norms.
Upon JD Vance’s arrival in Greenland, the Trump administration received an unexpected endorsement for what could be the U.S.'s first territorial expansion since 1947—Vladimir Putin.
"The U.S.'s plans to take control of Greenland may surprise some at first glance, but it is a deep mistake to assume this is merely extravagant rhetoric from the new American administration," Putin stated. "Nothing of the sort."
Putin noted that the U.S. had attempted to purchase Greenland as far back as the 1910s, emphasizing that its territorial ambitions were "serious" and had "longstanding historical roots." He pointed out that in the 1940s, the U.S. helped protect Greenland from Nazi occupation and later made an offer to buy the island, which was rejected. A similar attempt was made in the 1960s, but Congress refused to support the deal.

(Not so) fun fact! Over 50% of the world’s coral reefs are dead!
First of all, coral is colonial. Similar to some types of sea jellies, it’s made of a whole lot of little polyps that together comprise the animal that is coral. Those polyps are translucent, and within them live photosynthetic algae (zooxanthellae) that turn sunlight into food for the coral.
When the water gets warmer than coral is used to, as it tends to do when the entire world gets warmer, that algae starts acting weird. The corals immune system detects that, and kicks out those algae.
Without the algae to feed it, the coral starves. The bleaching is a result of the algae leaving, taking the color with them. All that’s left is the skeleton. Shortly after that algae is gone, the coral dies from a lack of nutrients.
Tumblr media
That being said, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) is working to combat this effect. Linked below are some of their websites pertaining to coral bleaching.
In particular, this is a five-minute video from NOAA on what we can do to help!
Research has found that coral can adapt to warmer waters through exposure. Not only that, but playing the sounds of a healthy coral reef underwater (they’re LOUD with all the fish and other creatures) can encourage young corals to settle and regrow reefs.
Not all is lost for coral, but it’s so important to be aware of its struggles.
You can also watch the documentary Chasing Coral on Netflix (: it’s a good watch and very informative.

When MBARI’s exploration meets @MontereyBayAquarium’s innovation 🤩✨️
Bloody-belly comb jellies, Lampocteis cruentiventer, are ctenophores, not true jellies. Like other comb jellies, they navigate through the water by beating their shimmering, hair-like cilia. These crimson beauties are found in the twilight zone, using their blood-red stomachs to hide a belly full of glowing (bioluminescent) prey. At these depths, red is nearly invisible, turning their vibrant color into the perfect camouflage.
This species was first observed off the coast of San Diego in 1979, but MBARI researchers, including Senior Research and Education Specialist George Matsumoto, officially named and described it in 2001. The Aquarium’s husbandry team worked for years to decode the mystery of caring for these jellies, becoming the first to display them. Aquarium experts like Senior Aquarist Evan Firl have been able to extend the captive longevity of this species by reducing oxygen concentrations and mimicking the bloody belly’s deep-sea habitat. By combining our deep-sea and animal care expertise, the Aquarium and MBARI have made it possible for everyone to see these tiny translucent treasures in person and learn more about these captivating denizens of the deep.

My name is Noura, and I’m reaching out to you during the most challenging time of my life. My family and I have lost everything due to the devastating war on the Gaza Strip. Our home, which once sheltered my , siblings, and loved ones, now exists only in our memories. We’ve been forced to leave everything behind, displaced from the north of Gaza to the south, .
Before the war, I had a stable job, a future I could envision for my family, and dreams of building a better life. Now, all of that has been taken from us. But despite the loss, I hold on to hope. I am determined to rebuild my life and the lives of my family members.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We are not just asking for charity. We are asking for a chance to restore hope, to create a new beginning. The goal is to collect donations to help us rebuild our home and establish a small business, which will provide not only for my family but also contribute to our community. We want to work, to stand on our own feet, and to restore the dignity that comes with self-reliance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your support will help us create that future, turning our suffering into a source of strength. No donation is too small, as every contribution brings us closer to reclaiming our lives , and restoring hope.
Thank you for standing with us in this time of need.

True/false: you're in at least one fandom that's so small that niche doesn't begin to describe it
TRUE Fandoms include:
My husband's unpublished TTRPG World feat. Fungal Goblins, Memetically Contagious Orcs, Julius Ceasar Acetara, Every Failed Economic Theory Of The Last 500 Years and The World's Best Necromancer
Bringing Up Baby (1938)
Given recent surges in @montereybayaquarium IDK if the MBARI Deep Sea Robot expiditions are niche anymore, but it SHOULD be front-page news
The Toronto Maple Leafs

We’re otterly excited to introduce you to Nova, a seven-year-old southern sea otter who has been participating in Sea Otter Surrogacy behind the scenes of the Aquarium since last autumn.
Tumblr media
Nova is described by staff as an extremely quick learner who loves enrichment time. She is very chatty and will let her team know vocally (and loudly) when she is ready for more snacks. Her favorite activities are long naps in tubs filled with ice water and wrapping herself up in artificial kelp like a burrito.
Deemed non-releasable by US Fish & Wildlife, Nova has been an amazing surrogate mother behind the scenes. She is taking a break from surrogacy and is currently on exhibit in the Northern Pacific Gallery. Animals on exhibit change periodically due to our participation in this important conservation program, stop by a sea otter show to learn who is on exhibit during your visit!
Tumblr media
Our Sea Otter Surrogacy partnership with @montereybayaquarium launched in 2020. At a special surrogacy area built behind the scenes, the Aquarium’s female non-releasable southern sea otters serve as surrogate mothers to teach rescued sea otter pups the skills needed to survive in the ocean. Once the pups learn the proper skills, they return to the Monterey Bay Aquarium for potential release.

Hi this is Lubna from Gaza,
So you've probably heard about the genocide that's been happening to us for nearly a year now, we've been displaced and forced leave our homes carrying nothing but our clothes, our suffering is never ending, we seek water everywhere and it's difficult to find, my elderly parents need medicine that doesn't exist in Gaza, we make fire with wood which is dangerous and causes lung issues to us because of the smoke, I used to work at an English language centre and had a simple life with big dreams and a warm home, I know have lost my job, my dear friends, and my home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've been living in a tent for a year now, which is a never ending nightmare for me and my family, it doesn't protect us from the heat of the sun, or the the cold of the winter, and last winter our tent was filled with water in the middle of the night and we couldn't sleep and had to run in the streets to find shelter, please help me and my family escape this nightmare by donating to us, and may god keep you and your family from ever going through this genocide.

World War II - Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941
Thick black smoke billows from the forward superstructure of the USS Arizona as it sinks into the waters of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The devastating Japanese attack left the battleship in ruins, claiming the lives of 1,177 crew members. The inferno rages as twisted metal and broken structures collapse into the sea, marking one of the darkest days in American history. This tragedy propelled the United States into World War II, forever changing the course of global events.
