At Montaza Park right now, a piece of land and a palm tree forest attached to a palace, which once belonged to the last king of Egypt, and is now a semi-public park (a small fee is charged, presumably to keep all four or five million people in Alexandria from trying to crowd in every weekend).

It's lovely but I'm honestly not feeling it today. Although I'm a people-person by neurodivergent standards, all of this socializing is really starting to catch up with me, and as usual there's a big group of people with me. So I've retreated in childhood behaviours and wandered off to the side somewhere to look at the landscape and brood.

Montaza Palace (قصر المنتزة‎‎) is a palace and extensive gardens in Alexandria, built on a low plateau overlooking the Mediterranean. These grounds first had the Salamlek Palace, built in 1892 by Khedive Abbas II, the last Muhammad Ali Dynasty ruler to hold the Khedive title over the Khedivate of Egypt and Sudan. It was used as a hunting lodge and residence for his companion. The larger Al-Haramlik Palace and royal gardens were added by King Fuad I in 1932 as a summer palace in a mix of Turkish and Florentine style. President Anwar El-Sadat renovated the original Salamlek Palace as an official presidential residence. It was most recently used by former president Hosni Mubarak. The Al-Montaza Park, former royal gardens, are open to the public. The Al-Haramlik—Montaza Palace is a public museum of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty family history and objects d'art.
