monster's ball affected me so much that i was able to understand that from any family, even the most lousy, you can escape and they will not be able to rule over me forever. besides, i'm ready to fight anyone who says halle berry is not worthy of an oscar. also billy bob thornton and heath ledger. this movie couldn't help but change my life with these people on board

all jokes aside, i do feel like maybe people who says she’s not a good actress have only seen her more mainstream performances and didn’t have the chance to watch movies like monster’s ball or losing isaiah or the call

as for monster’s ball itself, i do think it’s a brilliant movie and i love how it’s constructed, with the constant parallels between hank and leticia despite the two of them being on opposite sides of the social/racial spectrum. the ending is also one of the most memorable ones to me for how it disregards the viewers’ expectations: you wait the entire movie for a confrontation that never comes, and what you’re left with is something very ambiguous. i’ve seen people interpret it as a sad one, with life giving leticia another hit and trapping her once again, and others seeing it in a more positive light, with leticia letting go of the past to accept the new future waiting for her

personally i believe the ending is one of hope, and im glad it was able to give it to you as well!!!!
