Rey Dau's theme kind of sounds Gareth Coker esque which is pretty new for a MH game.

Like i was trying to search what it reminded me of with that whole "very epic and heroic sci-fi orchestral" vibe only to come to the horrifying realization that it was ARK.

first of all YESSSSSS RETURN TO A MH4-ESQUE SETTING WITH THE SAND BOATS. give us the boat combat

second of all i saw some speculation about the characters when i went in the tag earlier and yeah i can see it. little miss forge and. that guy at the end might be mister caravaneer? i can see that other lady at the start being the guildmarm. unfortunately i find myself of the opinion that this direction for the character designs is somewhat swagless and lacking flavor but i am willing to put up with it if it means i get to see my best friend The Man again

i mean don't get me wrong there's nothing particularly bad about it per se. and i really like the way miss might-be-the-guildmarm looks. but like. where's the color. the big shapes. little miss forge better have a comically oversized hammer stashed somewhere or so help me i will riot

third: man if i thought the human characters speaking in actual human words sounded wrong to me the PALICO speaking actual human words is downright surreal

fourth: god i love this monster design. i have never loved anything like i've loved that ugly bulldog lookin' thing

last: i'm interested by the fact that it seems to be a continuation of the mhworld style gameplay with the environment hazards and emergency flare. i'm curious if they'll be going the world route or the rise route for the endemic life. also i like the new horse, it feels like a natural evolution of gameplay elements of previous games (the "have a monster as a friend" of world and "have a guy you can ride" of rise)

Played the first mission in the Monster Hunter: Wilds Beta, thoughts under read more.

Alright, game seems good so far. Love the look of the world, and though I have just met the characters, they are already endeared to me, especially Alma.

Gameplay wise it's much the same, focus mode is just aiming for melee weapons which is fine. I love the new wound system, feels natural and super useful. Minor nitpicks for Heavy Bowgun at least, is that you can no longer scroll through your ammo using the D-pad, albeit that might be the beta locking control options, and you can no longer melee attack.

Overall, very good first taste of the game, and I am so excited for it's full release in February!
