Jewish Uprising Desperate Prince Charming (2007)
From Monorail Trespassing, Los Angeles’ noise and obscura label. It struck me odd finding this release as every few years I find something that makes me think of a new unfamiliar environment. I’m not talking about any predictable run-of-the-mill artist or genre I keep on hearing about through major music sites. More like finding streets, houses, and even rarely-visited properties (not worlds) because the music is so local and close to unheard of. Artists with very little exposure. Artists and sounds you need to either accidentally stumble upon or truly look hard for. A band with such a name as Jewish Uprising and a label as Monorail Trespassing decribe all this. How do three band members (Trash Dog, Cut Face, and China White) come together and release something like Desperate Prince Charming? Where do they come from? What have they seen or experienced? And what do they ultimately bring to the table to produce almost an (only) six minute cassette of booming noise, corrosive grindcore, and prison riot-grade screaming that could’ve have been produced in dark warehouses, industrial complexes, or run-down environs rich of concrete blocks and metal bars? Six minutes of insanity only an obscure label like Monorail Trespassing can distribute.
Only 100 made.

The Gorge of Jungle Road
Normally when experienced Trespassers hear or talk about a "gorge", they think of the bluish-grey stone gorge of IJ2 in the retail build, or the rocky upthrusts of late IJ1. But Trespasser contains another gorge area, inside Jungle Road. The area might not come across as a gorge in the retail (build 116) version, as it is merely a narrow passage for the monorail remnants to pass through in the linear progression of the level. But earlier builds reveal this area was previously concieved of as being covered in gravely stones.
Rather than blue-tinted, these stones err on the side of brown in build 32. The image used makes these rocks rather large, perhaps larger than the photo reference source used to make the texture. Further along its path, the terrain object deviates slightly from the shape of the terrain, but mostly fits along the path. It seems a narrower spot was meant for a physics puzzle to permit progression, though the terrain here is still fairly open.
Later, in build 55, the terrain object has been given a lighter, bluish stone-filled texture, and moss has been added to the area. A simple log puzzle is still present for ascending the gorge edge.
The terrain shape begins to mismatch, as the WTD terrain file is updated but not the original terrain object. Much of the area has a moss cover overlay.
In build 96, the "beta", the brown gravel has returned, but now only a scant covering of moss terrain is included. The log puzzle has been replaced with crates to get ontop of a combined monorail segment, possibly because the monorail wood object was too filmsy and the puzzle too brief. However it's quite difficult to bring down the crates, and Anne can simply jump up onto the rusty protrusions, perhaps a quick fix to make the level presentable.
Going into the gorge, road sections have been added. The original Max Scene of JR contained a single, level-long road that has been absent in the builds. The roads are placed to present the InGen worker vehicle path, but the terrain shape is maintained and fits poorly. As well, the previous house-of-cards bottleneck is decidedly broader and not puzzle-requiring, though the narrow terrain object shape remains. Was work on the level rushed at this point? Perhaps the dev was waiting to adjust the gravel shape until a final terrain was decided.
In the retail version of the game, build 116, the gravel terrain object is now gone. By this time, most larger terrain texture models have been taken out in favor of abundant patch objects which create more stable areas of terrain sound material. The puzzle has been brought forward enough that Anne can successfully bring down creates to get ontop of the monorail stretch; the rusted metal sticking out is no longer available for assistance.
The end of the gorge stretch also contains a fixed crate puzzle which can be successfully completed. Amazingly, these moss patches survive even while being absent from the rest of the level or other levels.
Why didn't the developers simply break-up larger trnobjs from earlier on to provide a more varied terrain appearance? Pressure from higher-ups may have brought them to simplify the proceedure of making working terrain in order to finish the game. The IJ2 gorge contains its own rock texture; perhaps that made it in from its being a new addition, where the devs could tailor it to the latest terrain philosophy and not worry about fixing an older design. At the least, the JR gorge contains many rocks and somewhat exciting Raptor combat. Will a modder ever attempt to create a fresh trnobj for the gorge in its retail-shape? Who can say...
