Hey there, hope you're doing well! I wanted to ask you, inspired by your Zi-O edit with "Maquina do Tempo". "Is there a song from the band Fresno that fits in a specific toku in your opinion?"
No need to answer if you don't care or don't like the band; I ask you cuz I've got into their music without being from Brazil myself, and I wanted to hear your perspective of both a toku fan and a brazilian.
If you don't know this is the post being referred to, anyway onto the explanation
Máquina do tempo by Banda 9 volts is the theme song of the movie Turma da Mônica Uma Aventura no Tempo (2007), roughly translate to monica's gang an adventure in time, which is a popular cartoon in Brazil, one of few wich is fully national, this movie was huge when I was a kid, and this song in particular played on the website that i used to visit constantly just to hear the song. Turma da mônica it exists since 1960 and is absolutely huge in brazil, everyone has read the comics, and it's now a empire of comics, cartoons, merchandising, theme parks, movies and a live action series.
The movie tell a story where monica and her friends goes to retrieve the four elements that power a time machine in different eras.
The lyrics goes like this:
let's get going, it's time
let's go, I'm in a hurry
i've got no time, bye
how good it would be to not be in such a hurry
and have more hours on my day to sleep well
i need a time machine
to get where I should be in a moment
with my machine I spend my time
with no stress, with no hurry and never getting late
So yeah it roughly fits, but it's mostly nostalgia factor that lead me to choose the song.
Fresno is a emo-esque band with very romantic lyrics that I don't see fitting toku at all

What are your DCLA oneshots?
Since I constantly update it, it's hard to write lists since it would be outdated quickly. But sure.
I won't include the collections where there's several oneshots, like the events or my sleepover oneshot collection, only the ones posted as one oneshot.
Bia oneshots:
What I'm trying to say is... Celeste comes out, basically
Fist fighting lesbians in a mall Well... self-explanatory lol
Soy Luna oneshots:
My boyfriend named Jim A rewrite of 1x73, where Jim has decided to have a different solution to her boy problem
What's that got to do with us? Monica thinks Nina and Luna are dating for some reason
Nuevo año, que divertido The gang celebrates New Years Eve. There's some crossovers going on
The Red Shorts So I have this really funny headcanon about Luna that... well...
You can talk first What if Luna spoke first in 3x10?
It's always been my best friend I had been joking so much about Lunina and I still very jokingly ship them, but I decided I probably needed to write something about it
I don't know where, but I don't think you know either Jim and Yam buy christmas presents for each other
Feliz Navidad, prospero año y felicidad Christmas celebrations!
The Lumbar skate "date" That scene in canon we never got
No one's really straight Well basically Ámbar learns no one is straight. It's a bit outdated because I have changed headcanons of some characters and I did rewrite it in my pride collection. But I'm still keeping this up.
Party is spooky (or whatever) Halloween at Jam and Roller!
A rodar mi amor My first SL fic ever. created it after just having seen S1 and noticing there was no Jim/Yam fics at the time. I was like "ok this needs fixing!" so I fixed it
Violetta oneshots:
If you don't make it, then try it again Ludmila and Naty are having a child, but Ludmila has some doubts about it. Meanwhile, Violetta has to choose between Leon and Francesca. Lots of stuff happen.
Prospero f-ing año New Years party! Includes some crossovers
All you here is the thunder crashing in the sky An alternate universe where Violetta never got taken away for 12 years, meaning she got a normal childhood and Angie was always around. So here's random scenes from how her life turned out because of that.
All that's left to do is just for me to pop the question Franletta proposal!!! <3
A day out with tía Violetta is 2 years old and gets babysat by Angie for the day
I ain't afraid of no rides Camila and Naty are at an amusement park together
That must be her hand Francesca and Violetta troll their fans
Navidad, Navidad, hoy es navidad The gang has a christmas party!
Spooky party (or something) Halloween fun
We can do this together (I bet you feel better when you're dancing) Francesca teaches Violetta to dance
Angie's babysitting adventures Another Angie babysitting oneshot, this time she has her friends with her and Violetta can't even walk
The kissing scene Camila and Naty's off screen practice in 3x77
Behind the rock Ok I had a dream about Violetta characters doing stuff, so I wrote it down to a fic
You said no boys? Germán forbids Violetta to date boys, so she dates girls
Show me how to fly I made one (1) Leonetta oneshot and it was this one

You have done an (excelent) post on how to reinvent Batman as a Pulp Hero. Do you think you could do one to Superman as well? Or do you think it is impossible to do this with the progenitor of the Super Hero genre without transforming him in a totaly diferent character?
Well, you saying it as impossible only makes it seem ever more tempting of a challenge, but yes, it is a bit harder. I'm gonna link my Batman post here as a reference point.
Partially because Batman's a franchise I've thought extensively about for a long time in regards to what I like about it or how I'd like to approach if given the opportunity, which is not something I can really say for Superman until more recently the Big Blue to start orbiting my brain. I don't have years worth of redesigns or fan concepts saved on my galleries and files to comb through to pick and choose here, and my experience with Superman as a character is considerably different, in some aspects more deeply personal, and not really something I'd like to go into in this blog, at least not now.
Part of the reason why it's harder is also because Batman and Superman have very different relationships with their pulp inspirations. Batman was, ostensibly, a pulp character adapted to comics, a dime-a-dozen Shadow knock-off who picked up and played up diverging traits from other characters and gradually ran with them to gradually forge a unique identity. Superman right from the start was rooted in a much stronger conceptual underpinning: the Sci-Fi Superman and Alien Menace who, instead of being a tragic monster or a tyrannical villain, becomes a costumed adventurer and social crusader. Even the name Super-Man was taken from an early story of Siegel and Shuster about a telepathic villain who ends the story lamenting that he should have used his powers for the good of mankind instead of selfishness. I hesitate to call what Siegel and Shuster were doing “subversive” because that term's picked up a real negative connotation, and it's not like Siegel and Shuster were out to upend their influences (they were pulp aficionados themselves), but rather putting a more positive, new spin on them.
Which is why it also becomes a bit harder to do what I did with Batman and align Superman with some of his pulp-esque inspirations, like John Carter, Flash Gordon or Hugo Danner, without just making it "Superman but he's John Carter", "Superman but it's Flash Gordon", and "Iron Munro / Superman but everything sucks" respectively. It's harder to create a character that wouldn't feel reduntant and derivative at best, and actively contradictory to Superman at worst.
I guess if I had to come up with a "Pulp Hero Superman" take I liked, well first of all I'd have to take steps to distance it from the likes of Tom Strong or Al Ewing's Doc Thunder, those two are as good as it gets in regards to Pulp Supermen. I stipulated for Batman a "No Guns, No Murder, No Service" policy partially to distance my takes on Batman from all the "Pulp Batmen" that just add guns and murder and take Batman back to the barest of basics. Likewise, I'm adding a "No Depowered Science Hero" rule here, which means it's a take that's likely going to veer off a lot more into fantasy and probably enough tampering with Clark's character that it does risk becoming a different character.
Frankly I don't think I'm gonna succeed at doing these without just making it a new character entirely, because with Batman you can get away with just upending the character's aesthetic and setting and even origin and still keep it recognizably Bruce Wayne (in fact Batman does that all the time), which isn't really the case with Superman, who needs those to remain recognizably Superman as he goes through internal changes and character shifts. I guess what I'm gonna do here is more taking the building blocks of Superman/Clark Kent and see a couple new ways I can rearrange them to create a Pulp Superman
Perhaps something we can do is to scale back or recontextualize the "superhero" parts without diminishing Superman's role as a superpowered fantasy character.
One way we can start is by picking on that connection between Superman and the sci-fi supermen/alien monsters of pulps I mentioned earlier and play it up further, to create a Superman who's deeply, deeply alien in a way that no mild-mannered disguise or colorful outfit can really disguise, something so dramatically powerful and alien, that instead you could get tales about the kinds of ensuing changes and ripple effects this has on the world upon the The Super-Man's arrival. And for that I'm gonna have to quote @davidmann95's concept for Joshua Viers' absolutely stunning Superman redesign on the left side of the image above
The red, the goldish-orange and white, the alienness, the angelic, sculpted feeling, the halo, that innocently curious expression: it’s genuinely beautiful. Superman as a redeeming science-angel from beyond our understanding, as much past the uncanny valley of limited human comprehension as a Lovecraftian monster but tuned to the opposite key - you could spend an endless procession of human lifetimes trying and failing to understand this being, but all you’ll ever know for sure is that it is beyond you, and it knows you, and it loves you.
Superdoomsday from Earth 45, healed and transformed into the savior it was originally envisioned as? Some descendant of his, or a future of the man himself? An alien who picked up on a broadcast of Superman from Earth, and so inspired reshaped itself in his image to spread his ‘gospel’ to the stars?
Alternatively, to come back to Earth a little, many, many pulp characters and series were built off the antics and personalities of real people, celebrities getting their own magazines or serials or fictionalized takes on them, so perhaps one way to make a "pulp" take on Superman would be to emphasize a bit more of Superman's real-world roots, trends that inspired his creation directly or indirectly at the time. The Jewish strongman Sigmund Breibart and Shuster's interest in fitness culture, Harold Lloyd's comic persona, the rising "strongman" film genre in the early 20th century, actors Clark Gable and Kent Taylor that supposedly named his secret identity, Clark Kent being a socially-awkward journalist based of Siegel's own school experiences.
Maybe one start to an authentic Pulp Superman, who would still be Superman, would be to just ask the question "What if Superman was a real person and/or a celebrity, and they started making pulp magazines and serials dedicated to him? What would those look like?". You wouldn't even have to restrict it to just a story set in the 1930s, in fact you could even play around with the rise of new mediums over the decades.
This third one is a little closer to some plans I have for my own take on a Superman character, not necessarily what I would do with Superman proper but one of my ideas for a Superman analogue. Superman's a character I'll always associate strongly with childhood and childhood fantasy, and to tap into that I would emphasize the other end of the fiction that influenced Siegel and Shuster: comic strips, in their case specifically Little Nemo and Popeye.
In my case I would bring additional influences from some of the comic strips I personally grew up reading like Monica's Gang and Calvin and Hobbes, and I already talked a bit about Captain Fray in terms of how he’s a Superman character despite being a villain. I guess you could call this one "What if Superman was a public domain comic strip character, stripped of the importance of being the founding figure of a super popular genre or extended universe, and also was kind of ugly?".
He's not "Sloth from the Goonies" ugly, I swear I didn't actually have Sloth in mind when typing out this idea, I've never watched that film nor did I know until now that he actually spends the film in a Superman shirt. That's not really what I'm going for. Visually I was thinking of modeling my take on Superman heavily after Hugo from Street Fighter and his inspiration Andre the Giant, to really emphasize the “circus strongman / freak wrestler” aspect of Superman’s inspiration, particularly in regards to how Hugo’s SFIII version strikes a really great balance in making Hugo ugly and both comedic and fearsome in battle, as well as lovable and even a little dopey (without being outright stupid, like his IV self) in his victory animations and endings.
He's still Superman, he still goes on fantastical adventures to help people, he's still a deeply loving and compassionate soul whose face beams with joy and affection and who's got wonderful eyes and a great smile. It's just that this smile has a couple of mismatched stick-out teeth or some missing ones, and he's got a crooked smile some people take as smug or malicious, he’s got a strongman’s gut instead of a bodybuilder’s abs, his nose is a little busted (maybe he’s had too many crash landings), and his hair is a little wild or greasy, and he doesn't exactly have very good people skills because of how others usually react to him and, y'know, he doesn't get the kind of publicity Superman would get despite doing ostensibly the same things. He’s not deformed, he’s incredibly intelligent and capable, but in comparison to how superheroes are usually allowed to look, he might as well be Bizarro in the public eye.
It becomes a running gag that people tend to assume some nearby fireman or cop was the one who rescued the hundred orphans out of a burning building single-handedly, meanwhile he's getting accosted off-panel by police officers who think he set the building on fire, or think they can bully this weird man dressed funny. He goes to rescue old people in peril and occasionally they yell at him that they don't have any money. He doesn't get asked to lead superhero meetings or teams even though many in the community advocate for just how much he does for the world, he gets censored out of tv broadcasts or group shots (even his face is sometimes pixelated when they do show him), people invite him on talk shows and don't really let him talk or assume they got the wrong guy. He goes to rescue a woman dangling off a building, and then he gets attacked by like three different superhero teams who assume he must have kidnapped the poor damsel. He was the first superhero, he is the strongest of them all still, but he never really gets credit for it, it nor does he even want to. None of this at all stops him or deters him, except for some occasionally funny reactions.
This never really changes for him, he doesn't really earn people's approval nor does he have to, instead the stories, outside of the gags and adventures you’d expect from a comic strip, veer more towards others learning to be less judgmental and him learning ways to better approach people. He isn't any lesser than Superman just because he doesn't look like most people would want him to look and he doesn't have to look like Superman. Really I think we could use more superheroes that don’t look all so uniformly pretty.
Again, probably not a take that would work for Clark proper, but it’s one way I would take a shot at doing Superman with my own
I have other stuff in the works for this character but I'd like to keep them to better work on them for now, but yeah, these are three of my shots at developing a Pulp Superman.
Alternatively here's a fourth idea that's more pulp than all of these: Join up Nicholas Cage with Panos Cosmatos again, or whatever weird indie director he decides to pair up with next, and let them do whatever the hell they want with Superman. Give us Mandy Superman. Superman vs The Color Out of Space. Superman vs Five Nights at Freddy's. Superman’s quest to find THE LAST PIG OF KRYPTON. Anything goes.

Just Little Malkavian Things ~
Malkavians these days can do nothing but de-conceptualize, Dement, eat hot chip, and lie.
Since people seemed to enjoy the #JustLittleVentrueThings VTMB adventure, here's a matching Malkavian one. Though I'm gonna be real with ya here, I had less fun D:
I finally figured out why I have such trouble wrapping my head around depictions of Malkavians in VTM media. Books, Storytellers, and fans say it's like having a mental illness and being linked to a massive group chat. But, listen, I've lived around and with mental illness all my life. I've been in massive group chats. Being Malkavian ain't like that.
It IS like being an early-twenties English major in the midst of an existential crisis, over-worked and cross-faded outta your skull and watching horror movies to Cope(TM)
So it's like drugs. It's like you had too much weed and too much wine and are let loose on Los Angeles. Which. My friends and I have and we, coincidentally, also "fought" a stop sign. The Malkavian PC never really seemed like a character to me: she's like a collection of cliches and dude-bros doing blunts while watching slasher movies. I named her Liotta after the Psychic Shop owner, and I'm sad Liotta didn't really get to be a person.
I wasn't surprised by any of the dialog. It's a pattern. Alliteration, allusion, animal joke. Alliteration, allusion, animal joke. It lost its charm.
Often, I didn't know what the FUCK I was saying. Which is the Malkavian Experience(TM), according to Rosa.
Anyway
Nonsense time
Most characters have an extra paragraph of dialog to Acknowledge That You Are A Malkavian. Some get an extra conversation branch. For example, there's lots of new Bertie dialog and he was all impressed Liotta knows about Gehenna and Thin-bloods <3. The Anarchs characters, especially Skelter, get a lot more. Skelter, Ash, and Liotta totally vibe.
If you sneak around the Santa Monica drug house, they talk about Mercurio?? Hello?? Mercurio, you bent Masquerade by not getting beat up real good.
Zero pretense about Voerman. Yes, I have DID; yes, I am making it your problem.
When Liotta talked to Beckett, he said the DID was "something to look forward to." Goddamnit, Beckett. That's not how the Bane or mental illness works! >:-(
I've never sneaked before!!! Did you know that the Tong AND the American gang downtown have fakes in their suitcases??? Like, Full On, "it's just stuffed with newspapers, brah." They were going to kill each other over newspapers. For some reason the Tong brought the REAL suitcase along too, but I'm so past having VTM make any sort of sense. It's fine.
Accidentally pissed off Nines. I meant farmer (affectionate) and Nines thought I meant farmer (derogatory). :(
The Dementation powers are (a) pretty purple loop-de-loops, (b) not as effective as Dominate (reaaaallyyy missed a good AOE attack), and (c) oddly enough, gave more compassionate dialog choices. I mean. In the pen-and-paper version, Dementation isn't conflict-focused, so the devs had to jigger it to use as attacks. But I was touched when Liotta made Hannah believe she was Paul, so Hannah got to say goodbye. Making Samantha believe Liotta was a pet turtle was funny and spared her the pain of her friend vanishing a second time. Heather thinks her entire experience was a dream and returns to her life, more or less unscathed.
Boris?? Asked Liotta to kill Venus for him???? DUDE, WHAT. I didn't know he could counter-offer!! What happens if you take up his offer? Who controls Confession? Does it close down??
Pro Tip: don't trust the pale woman in a cowboy stripper outfit who comes out of your vent and tells you everything's fine.
I went through an ENTIRE Ventrue playthrough without puking and Liotta ate one (1) unhoused person and blew chunks. I didn't realize Diseased Blood was a threat. What happens if you skip the Plague-bearer quest? Should you just never chomp on the Downtown unhoused community?
Strauss called Liotta "young one" and I was like, sir. You're not Beckett, you can't trick me.
A rat dances in the Downtown sewers and tells Liotta that the grass is greener in someone else's asshole.
And also will take you places.
Do you know what it's like for a Capri Sun to suddenly start speaking and offer taxi services.
LaCroix: how did Bach find me??? also LaCroix: [names his company after himself] [lives in Ventrue Tower]
Liotta told Beckett that Kindred are a joke and I got extra EXP for being so sneaky.
DMP produced snuff films even before Andrei???!!!! I thought all the blood was from the lil geo-dudes.
Liotta agreed with Andrei that Caine is here and boot-scooting around in his lil Angst Mobile. :D
As bad as Liotta was in group fights, she repeatedly made bosses cower and stand quietly while she beat them to death. Andrei had a full on lay-on-the-floor temper tantrum in his war form and Liotta just. Smacked him until he exploded. She didn't even take damage!
Imalia's computer password is ALSO "cleopatra." Just like Tawni's! Dual reference to the Embrace type
IDK why I never asked this before, but, um, who does Mitnick share the bunk bed with? Barabus..?
I went back to the Empire Hotel Penthouse suite to fetch the educational book and the Russian mob dudes were still there?? Hello, sirs, your leader is dead. You can leave now.
Liotta heard the real thoughts of the Red Dragon hostess...and also some debate about the Dark Father's presence in LA, heehee.
I thought it was fun that one of the "take me away, Cabbie!" taxi replies mentioned riding in a car like father and child. :D
"Why is the Mandarin giggling at me" is a sentence that came out of my face.
With the different dialog options, sometimes it's impossible to be polite to NPCs. For example: Liotta could only call VV "dolly/doll/toy doll" instead of her preferred names; the Chinatown gun seller felt frightened, thinking we were Police or Immigration.
Some great fourth wall breaks in the dialog: "I don't want to get involved either, but tell that to whoever is playing me!" to Beckett after the Giovanni Mansion.
"You can't spell success without whatever the hell my name is."
"If I cannot win with effort, I will cheat my way to victory. I am gone." Funnily enough, this was my first run where I didn't hack in to boost stats.
"I just want it to end. I feel like I've been playing forever."
Some nice wider lore references: "I devour knowledge like the great worm devours the corpse of society" could refer to how Salout, in tapeworm form, is devouring Tremere's body and destabilizing the Clan and/or Kindred night society.
"They should have a channel devoted to you in my head" to Beckett. In his Diary, Beckett witnesses Malkavians devouring Malkav and may or may not join the Cobweb (PS check out this great fanfic where he does).
This made me stare into space for a minute and question my life choices. During the Sabbat massacre, Liotta didn't snack on any of the blood doll ghouls (ya know, the ones with the eyes gouged out). She had such high Inspection + Finance that she had $4k in her wallet and could buy blood. I wanted to test a rumor that if you don't feed on the blood dolls, you get extra EXP. You do. BUT anywAY, right before the Tremere miniboss, Liotta was sword-fighting some goons and the blood doll...attacked him for her? Like. He moved on his own. When the goon was dead, the blood doll asked if Liotta was all right. This might have been a glitch but...the horrific implications that those men are still conscious, still willful, still feeling. ACK. I hope they got out the next morning.
RIP Ming Xiao. Flamethrower right to the tiddies.
I stole @ryttu3k's idea and noclipped through the werewolf section. Liotta still killed the Garou, but I didn't want the stress.
Caine is very Caine. "Don't you get it? We've already been judged!"
Liotta went Anarch because what little backstory I came up for her was she considered Smiling Jack her sire. Nines complimented her ability to murder.
Sheriff got sooooo dizzy that he fell over right onto Liotta's sword 27 times.
Dancing werewolf ending! Seemed fitting. :D

God of War is an action-adventure Hack & slash video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. It was released in April 2018. Monica's Gang (Comic Book)
@gravedangerahead @amalthea9 @professorlehnsherr-almashy @mademoiselle-princesse @lord-antihero @superkingofpriderock @metropolitan-mutant-of-ark
Monica's Gang, also known as Monica and Friends (originally titled Turma da Mônica) is a hugely popular brazilian comic book series that has been running since the 1960s. It was created by brazilian cartoonist Mauricio de Souza.
The series has countless comic books, strips and almanacs, and is divided in several branches. The main one features four main 7-year-old kids and takes place in São Paulo:
Monica/Mônica (1963-present): Main character and leader of the Four Kid Band. Inspired by the second of Mauricio’s daughter’s, she started out making appearances in Jimmy Five's strips, but ended up getting the spotlight soon afterwards, much to the boy's jealousy. She has Super Strength is always wearing a red dress (her wardrobe's full of these). Oh, and NEVER call her a pudgy, bucktooth shrimp (or any combination thereof), unless you wanna get some bunny bashings from her. Yes, she'll beat you up with her blue plush bunny.
Jimmy Five/Cebolinha (1960-present): He used to be the main character of his own comic strips, but ended up losing the spotlight to Monica soon after; maybe that's why he makes endless "infallible plans" to get her bunny and take over the block. He has only five single strands of hair, something nearly impossible for a kid like him, and when speaking, he swaps the 'r' for 'l' (or 'w', depending on the version you're reading). He is the only protagonist who wears shoes and to be born with toes.
Smudge/Cascão (1961-present): Jimmy Five's best friend. A pigpen at heart, he has aquaphobia and will refuse to take a bath at any cost. A very skilled soccer player.
Maggy/Magali (1964-present): Monica's best friend, also inspired in one of Mauricio’s daugthers, always wearing a yellow dress, and basically the poster girl to the Big Eater trope; she loves to eat, particularly watermelons, but never gains any weight or anything, being very skinny in contrast with her red-clad friend. She also tends to be rather girly sometimes.
The other groups created by Maurício include:
Chuck Billy 'n' Folks/Turma do Chico Bento: A brazilian child hillbilly's life. It includes a true Five Kid Band, with the protagonist Chuck (Chico Bento), his girlfriend Rosinha, his smart best friend Zé Luiz, his dumb best friend Zé Lelé and the Japanese-descendant friend Hiro.
Horacio's World/Turma do Horácio: A vegetarian T. rex who muses about life. This is the only character that Maurício still draws on his own.
Bug-a-Booo/Turma do Penadinho: A ghost and his monster friends. They like to scare people, and most of the times fail miserably.
The Cavern Clan/Turma do Piteco: A caveman dealing with his prehistorical life. There are dinosaurs alongside the giant mammals, of course (protagonist Pitheco was even the one who found Horácio's egg).
Tina's Pals/Turma da Tina: A teenager and her friends, which include her blue-haired best friend Rolo, her chubby best female friend Pipa and said friend's boyfriend Zecão (Big Joe).
The Tribe/Turma do Papa-Capim: A group of brazilian native-americans of a fictional tribe.
The Funnies/Turma do Astronauta: A Brazilian astronaut's journey through the cosmos. Frequently stumbles by classic sci-fi characters (a story had him sending his ship to be fixed; Kirk and Spock, Darth Vader, E.T. and the crew from Lost in Space are in the mechanic too), and it can be sometimes adventurous, sometimes philosophical (in fact, the first graphic novel of the Graphic MSP seal, which deals with Mauricio's characters as seen by other prominent Brazilian comics artists, stars Bubbly in a study on loneliness).
Lionel's Kingdom/Turma da Mata: A group of jungle animals. The English title has the name of the ruler of said jungle (a lion, of course), but the main character is the elephant Thunder (Jotalhão), originally created for the ads of a tomato sauce (which had a realistic elephant◊ on its cans, but eventually changed to Thunder◊).
A general rundown on the franchise for English speakers can be found here. The English dub of the series on the Monica Plus YouTube channel can be found here.

izzie’s favorite movies and tv shows of 2020 (aka the worst year ever)
another year, another movie and tv show review. this year has, to put it simply, sucked. 2020 has been so terribly awful that sometimes the only light you can see are the absolute bangers of movies and tv shows that came out this year. with that being said, some of the movies and tv shows didn't come out in 2020. if the are mentioned in this post it is because they either: had a season come out this year, i found them this year, or they became popular this year.
SPOILERS: it may not come as a surprise but just in case you didn't realize, there will be many spoilers ahead, read at your own risk.
tw // death, suicide, drug use, mild adult language. if any of these things might trigger you, i strongly urge you not to read this post.
there is no specific order of these shows and movies, i'm just writing as they come to mind. if you enjoy any of these movies or tv shows, or if you have any suggestions for me, please let me know!
TV SHOWS
1) Santa Clarita Diet
Okay, so I know this show doesn't have anything to do with 2020. But, I found this show in 2020. I put it off for a while, thinking it wasn't my style of a show, but boy was I wrong. I loved this show. Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore) is a normal suburban wife and mom. She is a real estate agent with her husband Joel (Timothy Olyphant). She struggles with the fact that she isn't very adventurous. This all changes when she throws up an insane amount at a house showing. She then finds herself craving adventure, and craving human flesh. Yeah, she's a zombie. Not only is this show super hilarious, but it also shows the growth that they have with their characters and their family. I'm also team Abby (Liv Hewson) and Eric (Skyler Gisondo).
2) Outer Banks
So, I'm from NC. And, watching this show at first bothered me because I can very obviously tell this show isn't actually filmed in the obx, and the geography isn't exact, but once I got past that, I loved it. John B (Chase Stokes) is a teenager that lives in the poor side of the outer banks. He has a friend group called the Pogues which consists of JJ (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Kie (Madison Bailey). They absolutely hate the Kooks, which are the rich kids. A while after John B's dad gets lost at sea, presumed dead, the group finds some evidence that may solve the mystery, and make them rich. In the process, John B falls in love with a Kook names Sarah (Madelyn Cline) whose father Ward (Charles Esten) may have a little more to do with the mystery than he let on. Through friendship, murder, and secrets, the gang may just figure out what happened to John B's dad.
3) Love, Victor
Alright. I loved loved loved Love, Simon. I also really loved the book "Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda." So, when I heard about this show, I was so excited. Victor (Michael Cimino) is a teenage boy that moved to Creekwood with his family. He meets Felix (Anthony Turpel) who lives in his building. He also meets Mia (Rachel Hilson) and they begin dating. But, he also meets Benji (George Sear). While trying to get used to a new school, new friends, and a new relationship, Victor finds himself questioning his sexuality. With the help of Simon (Nick Robinson) and his friends, Victor finds it in himself to finally come out, and he admits his feelings, for Benji. This is such a good show, but I was so upset when season 1 ended on a cliff-hanger.
4) The Haunting of Bly Manor
The sequel to The Haunting of Hill House. Now listen, haunting of hill house was an absolute banger. When I saw that Bly came out I nearly died. I was so excited. But, I was alone in my apartment and also a lil bitch. So, I had to wait a week until I was home with my family to watch it. Now, I was so excited to be scared, and there were a few jump scares and ominous moments, but this season was more centered around the story line of Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti) and her new life in a foreign country. When seeing an ad for a live in job as an au pair. When she gets there, she meets the two young children she’ll be looking out for and the other workers of the house, including the gardener, Jamie (Amelia Eve). Throughout her stay at Bly she begins to notice weird behaviors from both children and by the end of the series she sacrifices herself for the children. Sadly, this story is being told by Jamie who Dani had fallen in love with during her stay at Bly. Now I was somewhat upset about the lack of horror, but was still very intrigued and drawn in by this series.
5) Julie and the Phantoms
Alright, at first I was not gonna watch this show. I thought it looked a little too young and childish for me, but everyone was talking about it on twitter so I had to. I. Love. This. Show. This show centers around Julie (Madison Reyes). Julie is a teenage girl who, sadly, lost her mother. The one major thing she shared with her mom, was their love for music. Since her mothers passing, she gave up music. This is until, dead musicians from the 90′s show up in her garage. Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner), and Reggie (Jeremy Shada) all tragically passed away in the 90′s after eating bad street hotdogs. When Julie finds their CD in her garage, she decides to play it and they come back in ghost form. But, only she can see them. With their help, she finds her confidence to play music again. Also, she has to find away for them to stay because they’re slowly disappearing.
6) Derry Girls
Bitch. I love this show. And yeah it didn’t come out in 2020. Shut up. I found this show recently after watching the cast on the holiday special of the Great British Baking Show. I loved the actors so I had to watch the show. This show focuses on Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) a 16 year old girl that lives in Derry, Northern Ireland in the 90′s. Alongside her is her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), her two friends Clare (Nicola Coughlan) and Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), and Michelle’s English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn). During these years, a lot of people in Ireland struggled, especially because it was during wartime. Even thought this show isn’t focused heavily around the war, it’s amazing to see these teens live a fulfilling life while struggling with the state of their country, and the lack of money that their families have.
7) Elite
HA. This show did have a season in 2020 so leave me alone. But bro, I love this show. At first, I didn’t watch it because I thought I could only watch the dubbed version in English, which I hate. I hate dubbed shows they look so weird. But, once I found out I could watch this show in Spanish, I fell in love. But, sadly, theres too damn much to talk about in one little post. It’s crazy. But basically it just follows the lives of teens in high school that are trying to survive. And no, not in the “I’m surviving high school,” sense. No, people be getting murdered.
MOVIES (tbh i didn’t find a lot of movies good this year lmk which movies u liked this year and maybe i’ll like them!)
1) All the Bright Places
After the death of her sister, Violet (Elle Fanning) is devastated. She closes herself off, and has her parents get her out of doing school work that involves working with others. But, as time goes on, they realize she may need to start to move on. Violet then meets Finch (Justice Smith) who is enamored by Violet. He suggests they do a project together. While finding and visiting some of the smallest wonders of their state, they begin to fall for each other. While you are focusing on Violet and her mental health, you tend to miss some of the signs that Finch’s mental health isn’t great either, but by the time you do, it could be too late.
2) Dangerous Lies
Hmm. This was weird for me. I had only ever seen Camila Mendes in Riverdale, and honestly, not a fan. So, Katie (Camila Mendes) and her husband Adam (Jessie T. Usher) are struggling with money. Katie decides to take a job working for an elderly man, and eventually gets her husband hired there as well. Unfortunately, he dies, but for some odd reason, leaves the house and all of his fortune, to Katie. As they get comfortable in the house, they begin to uncover some very weird and dangerous lies.
3) The Devil All the Time
Ok. Iconic. You got so many hot men in this movie. Bill Skarsgård, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson. C’mon now. That’s crazy. But, this story is so long and in depth that I wouldn’t even know where to begin. This movie is a bit disturbing. It involves murder, sexual assault, killing of animals, and so much more so if that’s an issue for you please do not watch this movie. It was also quite long, but it was still good.
4) After We Collided
Okay just listen. I was that teenager. I read wattpad stories and was, embarrassingly, addicted to After. This was not a great movie per say, but it was After. This is a sequel to the movie After. This movie centers around Tessa (Josephine Langford) and her recovery after her breakup with Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin). Theres sex, alcohol, bad acting. The whole nine-yards. But c’mon, they’re so cute together.
5) To All the Boys p.s. I Still Love You
Okay it was a good movie. I enjoyed it. This movie focuses on Lara Jean (Lana Condor) and her boyfriend Peter (Noah Centineo) and their relationship post the first movie. But of course relationships aren’t super steady, and John Ambrose McClaren (Jordan Fisher) shows up. Yeah, John Ambrose, from her letter. They become closer and Lara Jean has to decide who she wants to be with. Spoiler, it’s Peter. BOOOOOOO justice for John Ambrose McClaren, he deserved better.

May 2022. Jacqueline "Jackie" Sarah (*cough* Beulah *cough*) Hyde: The Movie.
Jackie: Okay, my life is way better than any movie. *With a dramatic pause* But it would be totally cool if my life story was made into a movie. Imagine if...
Donna: Do I have to?
Jackie: I have to listen to your fantasies of grilling...I mean, interviewing, politicians you hate. Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell...
Donna: You mean turtle boy?
Jackie: Yes! And Sarah Palin, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Ted Cruz...
Donna: The guy with the most punchable face ever, as he sits on a beach in Mexico with...
Jackie (with a groan): Anyway, my life story will be called "Riches, a Couple of Rags, and Then More Riches."
Donna: How about "Riches, Rags, and Finding Success for Yourself?"
Jackie: Hmm, "Finding the American Dream." That's perfect!
Donna: Isn't the American Dream typically futile?
Jackie: Not for me, Donna! *With a dramatic pause* We open the scene, with a big, big house. Going inside, and focusing on a little girl. Me!
Narrator Jackie: Jacqueline "Jackie" Sarah Burkhart...
Donna: Isn't your middle name Beulah?
Jackie: Shh, this is my story!
Narrator Jackie (clearing throat): Anyway, she was named after Jackie O, on September 24, 1961. It's hard to believe, because now? She doesn't look a day over fifty. *With a dramatic pause* But back then, she was adorable. Her parents bought her the prettiest things, but she was like a doll. And they were playing dress up, as the less fortunate servants cared for her.
Cut to, older Jackie. Around fifteen or sixteen. All alone, in her house.
Narrator Jackie: It was all she ever knew, with people who played a stupid, superficial game of chess, until she met a dirty, dirty dog. And then, his friends. Especially, a scruffy little orphan boy named Steven.
Cut to, Jackie and Hyde cuddling in Jackie's bed. In her perfectly pink bedroom. As the scene fades, to a shoebox apartment.
Narrator Jackie: He did a lot of stupid things, and she lost a lot of faith, but soulmates are soulmates. He touched her mind, heart, and soul...
Cut to, a larger apartment. With Jackie and Hyde playing chess. Then to a beautiful wedding day in the spring, filled with lilacs, as they stroll through the garden. With Hyde in a tux, and Jackie in a beautiful wedding dress. And a veil, attached to a glittering tiara.
Narrator Jackie: And, his real dad was rich. So that helped, but she found her own way, too. The American Dream, with love, marriage...
Cut to, a television studio. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Holding a dark-haired baby in her arms. Cut to, a meandering Becca and a squirming James.
Narrator Jackie: And baby carriages! And lots of new things, and new adventures.
Cut to, Chicago. Another television studio, and to a big house. With Jackie and Hyde, and the rest of the gang, sitting on the back deck. Watching the kids run around. Particularly, Leah chasing James, as Jackie rolls her eyes.
Narrator Jackie: But then, those babies got bigger. And she couldn't tell them what to do anymore.
Cut to, teenaged Becca and James. Becca's wearing ripped jeans and thick black eyeliner, and James is smoking weed with Leah.
Narrator Jackie: All she could do was guide them to the light, or...fine, whatever they considered to be the light.
Cut to, James marrying Leah. To Becca, still dressing oddly, opening her own alterations business. With Jackie proudly cutting the ribbon.
Narrator Jackie: But by then, time was beginning to pass her by. It was time to pass the torch. Slowly, slowly, slowly...
Cut to, the grandkids are running around in the backyard. Abbie's chasing Caleb, as Caleb takes a final stand and throws sticks at her. Then, to James running Grooves, with Hyde by his side. And Kate co-hosting with Jackie, in a sunflower dress, with a smile on her face.
Narrator Jackie: But the light's never going to go out.
Cut to, a fuzzy, uncertain future. With Jackie and Hyde walking on the beaches of Santa Monica, and then, with the kids and grandkids in Hawaii. With an older Abbie kicking sand in Caleb's face, as Caleb pushes her to the ground. As she squeals, and on the horizon, Eric and Donna are on a sailboat.
Donna: I'm not traveling the world with Eric on a sailboat!
Jackie: I know, Donna. That's why...
Cut to, the gang on the beach in Hawaii. With all of their kids and grandkids, laughing. As the sun begins to set.
Narrator Jackie: Because Jacqueline "Jackie" Sarah Hyde's story is far from over. *Voice wavering* Even as everything begins to fade to black...
Fade to black, back to reality. Jackie's eyes are filled with tears. Good and bad, happy and sad.
Jackie: Isn't my life story beautiful?
Donna (hugging her): It's far from over, Jackie, okay? We still have time...
Jackie (with a wistful smile, and a dramatic sigh): That's what everyone says, Donna!
