i know tiktok is like pure brainrot and the user base is a nightmare and all other social media platforms are recreating the micro video and it's awful and killing our attention spans or whatever

but like my god the usa banning it is still like objectively bad. like the government should not restrict a company's right to do business just because it's based in a country that we don't vibe with, the consumers should have the right to choose that. and it's so clearly not about protecting privacy because all the american social media companies do the same shit and worse. our government is owned by corporations and this is proof. and like fuck dude this is a violation of free speech the government is literally limiting where i can speak regardless of the content of my speech. and to top it all off it's part of $95 BILLION foreign aid bill where most of it is going to Israel to kill Palestinians!! we don't live in a fucking democracy

and like in addition to all of that I make money off that app, not a lot just 20 bucks a month but that's my grocery bill because inflation is beating my ass because my two jobs only make enough to cover school stuff my car and my phone payments while i'm taking on debt that no president will ever address. and now the government is taking away my fun hobby that i use to feed myself while doing nothing to address the social or economic problems that make it so i can't feed myself this is such fucking bullshit

flight rising needs a mobile app so badly and any time someone tries to suggest it in their forums a swarm of joyless gatekeepers explain condescendingly how it's too much resources. and it's like having the game easily portable with a interface actually meant for my phone is infinitely more exciting than a new type of dragon or familiar rollout I don't mind if it takes a lot of resources if it makes daily play of the game feasible for people who don't have infinite time at an unfirewalled computer

heyyyy so psa to fanfic authors out there: I got a very polite comment on a fic of mine this morning (from a verified ao3 account) asking if they could feature my fic on their youtube channel, and would only do so with permission and would give me full credit and link me.

obviously, I went and checked out the channel myself, and it was a content farm with clickbait titles that technically did "feature" fanfiction: every video was an automated/ screen-to-text reader reading the fanfic in full out loud over??? some video game???? and then linking the author and the fic in the comments, for authors that had agreed to identical comments to mine. not sure if they would have agreed if they'd realized that they'd received an automated comment on their fic, replied as if it was a human being, and then likely an automated process popped out the video of a screen-to-text reader directly reading their fic with no commentary or other fair use edits over possibly even stock footage??? given that these things are 2-4 hours long and the channel is posting a video every day???, for whomever owns the channel to get advertisement money.

so just. check and make sure it's a human being that actually wants to talk about your fic and not someone farming for content if you get a comment asking if you'd be willing to be "featured" on a youtube channel.
