the dbd crew absolutely lacks the ability to understand money. like edwin and charles haven't had to buy anything non-magical in 30+ years, crystal was the kind of rich to buy designer toothpaste if she felt like it, and niko was born and raised in japan with a very different currency than the states. needless to say, local father-figure-by-default jenny has her work cut out for her.

So, just rewachting The Case of the Lighthouse Leapers and noticed that the moment Dagfinn mentions the saltwater taffy Niko looks at him excitedly, and her smile only grows when he goes on to tell them about giving them a cursed Magic 8 Ball as well. Niko looks at Edwin, who looks back at her and notices her excitement. And love the little giggle she lets out even as Crystal is all like 'why would someone make such a toy'. Edwin just smiles and agrees with Charles that having such a thing would be pretty cool (still looking at an excited Niko).

And then when the case is over with, Dagfinn doesn't go to Charles or Edwin, he immediately gives the promised payment to Niko (who is then the only one who uses them).

i get such a sense of primal envy when looking at edwin’s clothes up close because god you can just tell his coat is real wool and made to last and not cheap flimsy mass produced garbage and auggagghhhh that was just STANDARD in his time. by no means am i saying i was #borninthewronggeneration because i like having vaccines and household appliances but. man. to have a personally-tailored coat like that that’d last for years and years……. and fabrics of fine thread-dense quality………. if only

I'm not saying world domination is a particularly worthy goal, but literally what else can one aspire to beyond this given the unbelievably restrictive rules of that universe? this is a world conceived to be a hierarchy, and stay one, by design!! Nayru's domain, Wisdom's domain, is literally Natural Rules, and Farore's, Courage, is to create life that can abide by these rules. It's in the very cutscene that introduces them as a mythological concept!!

So if you're unlucky enough to be casted as "one of the bad ones that aren't blessed sorry :/" either you wall yourself in a cave and live your life lowly and miserable, hoping no hero will come break all of your pots while you're out picking up wood, or you take your only reasonable shot at making significant change for yourself. Like what else do you do in such a conservative world??? attempt to build diplomacy, when your entire race is being considered evil thieves inherently, and when you're incredibly underpowered and with nothing of worth to offer your neighbors?? like what is one poor poor gerudo king meant to do :(((((

Random thing that i needed to get out of the system while i’m still on a stephanie brown rush:

Steph’s upbringing is kinda confusing at times, because comics have never really been consistent, and steph herself is a particularly inconsistent character, but bear with me. Arthur was in and out of jail (which meant he could maybe bring some good money occasionally but half the time he was just out of the picture) and crystal was struggling with the worst of her addiction and probably didn’t earn a lot of money, so it’s easy to believe that with such a unstable home life they would actually be moving a lot. If times were good, with daddy dearest working and crystal feeling more positive and possibly trying to get better then maybe they could afford a slightly better house, if arthur got thrown in jail again and crystal was going through a rough time and couldn’t work as much they’d go back to smaller place.
