Artist Ai Weiwei has been known to use LEGO bricks as an art material, leveraging the analog bit shape of the square building blocks to generate so-called “glitch aesthetics” that comment on digital disruption, paranoia around systems, and miscommunication (among other associations attendant to their subject matter).
In his newest and largest LEGO work yet, slated as a feature of an upcoming exhibition at the Design Museum in London, Ai presents “Water Lilies #1,” a recreation of Claude Monet’s ubiquitous Impressionist work.

Episode 211: The Copyright Conundrum
In Episode 211, “The Copyright Conundrum,” Flourish and Elizabeth welcome prolific fic writer and copyright expert @earlgreytea68 back to the podcast to discuss her new Fansplaining article, “How U.S. Copyright Law Fails Fan Creators.” After giving a little primer on copyright, trademark, fair use, and how they all intersect with fandom, EGT discusses the ways current U.S. intellectual property law is unequipped to deal with non-monetized creativity—and how the system fails everyone but the big publishers and studios. They also discuss copyright and AI, and whether copyright claims have the potential to take down LLMs and AI tools.
Click through to our site to listen or read a full transcript!
And an exciting note: this episode has a sponsor!! Ellipsus is a new collaborative writing tool that lets you and your co-writers/editors/betas create different drafts and merge them together. They are very anti-generative AI, and they reached out to us because they have roots in fic fandom. Ellipsus is currently in closed beta, but if you use our SPECIAL LINK, you’ll go to the top of the list. We’ve really enjoyed testing it out—and we hope this can supplant Google Docs (ugh) in our fic writing.

Welp. It's official now.
I locked all of my fics on AO3.
If you don't have an AO3 account and enjoyed my writing as an anonymous guest, I'm very sorry. It's not a step I wanted to take. All I can say is that one too many AI related projects have been scraping the archive.
I share my writing out of joy and passion for stories and characters, hoping that it may spark joy and passion in others too or make their days a little brighter, not for some third party to steal my work and feed it into their shitty AI to make money by using other people's work without their consent.
I will also take this opportunity to remind you that if you put my writing into an AI to, idk, train a chat bot or get more "content", you are also feeding the AI with my work against my explicit wishes and consent. "It's just for me" or "it's only for private use" makes no difference here. It doesn't matter how the AI gets access to the work of others, it matters that it does when it shouldn't.
Let's not pretend that the people behind AI won't use the data you give it while using it privately as well; it's basically more free training data for them. These people were willing to steal once, they won't shy away from taking whatever else they can get.
I hope that I will soon feel comfortable unlocking my fics again because, again, that's how I prefer it.

going to get a little controversial here lol one sec
i'm seeing a lot of people high-horse posting about how tumblr isn't just an advertising platform but a real social media, where you have to interact with people in order to get clicks and ~socialize~ and ~be genuine~, and i just wanna say that that's all well and good but also nobody here is particularly interested in supporting their fave creators monetarily. a lot of folks don't reblog any self-promo at all. almost all of my commissions or kofi support have come from twitter, where the culture is different--fandom there has cultivated a system where folks just kinda pass along money in a big old circle of commissions and art requests and merch. i think it's actually really cool when fanartists and fanfic authors can be compensated! i genuinely wish tumblr would cultivate more positive vibes about that sort of thing. i'm broke as a joke 99% of the time but whenever i have a little extra cash (usually from the aforementioned comms, lmao) i like to pass it along to the patreons of my fave artists or buy sketch commissions. practice what i preach and all that

OC's...but make it A.I.
@percosim, ask and you shall receive. 😁
Some of the OC's have been pulled outta the vault (my external hard drive) because their save has been a WIP since lawd knows how long. But they're in this new save I had to create (because I tried splitting saves up by story and both somehow got corrupted/glitched out) 🙃. Anywho...
Let's get into it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Messiah "Dino" Villareal 🥵 (GIIIRRRLLLLL they even put him in his natural habitat...you KNOW he never has a shirt on!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deijah Allender & Jaron O'Neal (her long-term boyfriend) They've been together for 7 years but have known each other for 10 (I feel like these pictures would be from when they first met/started seeing each other)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carmelo "Melo" Hollingsworth , Marguerite Webber (His Ex-Wife/High school sweetheart/Children's mother), and Monet Giordano (Pregnant girlfriend)
📌 [I figured you might wanna see your boo thang all dressed up @thegloomiestwhim ]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kimora "Angel" White & Allen "Ace" Miller (I gotta bring him back out the vault, along with his son and ex-girlfriend/son's mother ViVi (the fashion stylist) since their save got corrupted)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ramone "Moe" Solitto, Aura Matthews (his girlfriend), and Kelsi Galvin (his high school sweetheart/ex-girlfriend)
Tumblr media
Below are just some random ones I did just to see what they'd look like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Top: Nico Rodriguez, Ashlee Brand
Bottom: Malaysia Walker, Capri Stephens
Tumblr media
Brain Dump // Ideas Incoming: Seeing all them together in one place (basically grouped together by story) just gave me so much inspiration! I know for a fact that I won't be able to have an ongoing years long story series but what my brain can do is tell each story like a mini-series with a designated number of episodes/chapters (some may be one-off's, kinda like how fan fic writers do their stories). A few will be told in machinima form while the others will be written.
They all exist in the same world because ultimately each story is connected in some way.
Thanks for the much appreciated story inspo Perco! 💕

Everyone remembers the Doctor discovering six Mona Lisas bricked up in the cellar of a chateau in Paris. The Doctor knew instantly that while these may have the brush stroke of Leonardo that they could not be the original. You see, the Doctor was there in 1503 and so was I. My name is Kimberly Jane, which is interesting because he had just left behind someone called Sarah Jane. Anyway, I traveled with the Doctor for a while, and I loved it when we met famous artists such as DaVinci. Most people don't know about my time with Doctor, but I hope to set the record straight with a few stories. This first one begins in 1503. Most people believe that Lisa del Giocondo, that dreadful woman with no eyebrows, was the inspiration for the Mona Lisa, but she came later. I was the original inspiration for the painting called the Mona Lisa. Below you can see Leonardo's original sketch and first draft of the famous artwork.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leonardo's artwork was exquisite, but as I traveled with the Doctor, I found myself in Paris in 1881. There I fell in love with the work of Vincent Van Gogh. I asked him if he would update Leonardo's work in his own style, which to my delight, he did. This is the result.
Tumblr media
Looking at the background, I like to think that I may have inspired his Starry Night. Soaking in the art scene in Paris, I was hungry to meet more greats, so we slipped forward to 1900 where the Doctor introduced me to Claude Monet. He had just completed Water Lilies and was looking for a new project, so I convinced him to put his spin on my Mona Lisa. It was nice but something about it was rather familiar.
Tumblr media
The Doctor mentioned that they had art back on Gallifrey, but that it was done by computers. I was curious to see how a computer could capture the intricacy and beauty of human art, so I begged him to take me to Gallifrey. But, the Doctor refused to go. He had no interest in returning home; however, he said that the TARDIS has the technology needed and could produce a work of art from Leonardo's original. Still dubious, I allowed him to put the TARDIS to work. This is what she produced.
Tumblr media
It's light, it's fun, it's pretty, but I found the computer art a bit flat. It lacked soul. I worried that I might have offended the Doctor with my comments, but he was actually pleased with my assessment of the superiority of human art over AI. The Doctor then looked over at me and said, "Now, how do you feel about poetry?"
