I'm sorry, Danganronpa has officially taken over my brain to the point where I physically need to write a fic about it rn or I will die.
I feel like the Warriors of Hope are the series biggest missed opportunities, fumbling them - so I intend to right that wrong.
I present the first chapter of Danganronpa - 'Now and Then'!
Quick content warning - The Warriors of Hope all have fucked up pasts. There is a lot of child endangerment.

Below is propaganda submitted in support of why this character should join the tumblr found family:
Okay. Listen. I know. I know she's not a good person. I know she does a lot of deplorable stuff. But underneath it all, she's a scared little kid. She's just as traumatized and terrified as the other Warriors of Hope, even if her trauma response was to lean into the evil that promised her safety. I'm not saying what she did was justified, especially how she treated Kotoko and Nagisa. But Monaca was trapped in an abusive family situation with a raging misogynist for a father and a half-brother who can't be trusted around children for many reasons. Junko was the only authority figure who even pretended to be nice to Monaca. When you learn how to take control over an abusive situation from Junko Enoshima, your liberation can lead to the repetition of the cycle. That's Monaca; freed from her horrific life, but trapped yet again in a cycle of abuse because that's all she knows. And though she'll never admit it, she's clearly just as scared as everyone else.
I think if Monaca were real, I would struggle to forgive her. But Monaca isn't real. Monaca is a representation of the type of person who comes out of abuse and isn't a perfect victim about the whole thing. She's vengeful, and she does things that hurt other people seemingly without rhyme or reason. But sometimes, people come out of traumatic situations, and their coping mechanisms aren't palatable either. I know when I escaped an abusive situation when I was about Monaca's age, I wasn't nice about it. I was a really mean person who hurt other people, because I had been hurt and I didn't really know any better. I've since gotten better and apologized, but that doesn't change the fact that I hurt people. Monaca is just that concept, put through a Danganronpa-style exaggeration of reality. I want to bring Monaca into the Tumblr found family. If not for Monaca herself, then for anyone who's found themselves in bad spots and reacting unfavorably to those who didn't deserve it. Because, while Monaca can't grow unless the writers make her, you can grow and change and become a better person. You don't deserve to be "ditched at the roadside" while you're still learning.

Mod, who are your top 10 favorite characters and top 10 least favorite?
//I have actually been wanting to discuss something like this, so I’m glad someone brought it up to me.
//I’ll go through with this, but I won’t be discussing my least favorites, since I don’t want to bring any negativity, and to be honest, I enjoy writing pretty much everyone in this blog. I also fear if I share who my least favorites are in the main series, said characters won’t get as many asks, and I don’t want any unfair bias. I can definitely admit to hating Haiji though, because...well...he obviously won't be receiving any questions anymore. Besides, I doubt many people will disagree with me.
Honorable Mentions:
Makoto Naegi
Mahiru Koizumi
Kirumi Tojo
Kaede Akamatsu
Tsumugi Shirogane
Shuichi Saihara
Iroha Nijiue
Mikihiko Koyasunaga
Yoruko Kabuya
Tsurugi Kinjo
Uchui Porosen
Kibin Hatsudoki
//Though to be honest, everyone may as well be an honorable mention because I love writing every single one of these guys. Also, like I just said, don’t let this top 10 affect your asks. I love every character in this blog and I’m happy to make asks for each and every one of them. It was really hard to narrow it down to 10
#10: Tenko Chabashira
This might seem a little surprising, given that Tenko hasn't had a whole lot of screen time and story relevance so far. She's only been prominent in two arcs, Deadly Harmony and Novoselic Revolution, both of which she didn't have as much screen time as most of the other characters. However, not to spoil anything major, I have big plans for her, and what I've pulled out of her so far is something I'm proud of. My main goal is mainly to give her a bit of development, and tone down on the sexism element of her character. Not remove it entirely, mind you, because let's be real, Tenko unfortunately isn't Tenko without it, but basically to not do what the DR dev team did and make it the forefront of her character, while her other exceedingly good traits are just at the back until later on in the story.
#09: Kokichi Ouma
Kokichi is one of, if not, my favorite character in the original DR series. My main goal of him in this series is trying to grapple with his constantly changing attitude, mainly towards the DRV3 cast besides himself. At first he's glad to see them, then he turns spiteful towards Shuichi and Kaede when they try to fight him, then he straight up just abandons them and attempts to cut off contact. As he is right now, he's conflicted about how to feel about everyone. Sure, they all still hate him, but during Cabaret Kyojin's they came to his defense when he most needed it. That whole arc might've seemed pretty pointless and acted as needless filler, but my true intention of it was to flesh out the characters involved, mainly Kokichi and Kuripa. Speaking of which, that's another plot point that I'm looking forward to branching upon: the little companionship those two have going on right now.
#08: Monaca Towa
Monaca is a character I actually tend to struggle with in the grand scheme of things. The reason being that, arguably, she in canon is the second biggest antagonist in the series behind Junko. What I tried to do with Survivor though, is not make her an antagonist, but make her slowly become more and more redeemable, despite her actions. The reason why I went with this approach is mainly due to Monaca's last appearance in the series, where she states to Toko and Komaru that she's kind of just done with everything to do with Junko and Despair. I don't think it would be easy to bring her back as an antagonist because of THAT fiasco, and that is legitimately one of favorite scenes of her...which is funny because it's from DR3 and I kinda hate the anime. Her whole presence in Survivor is based around the idea of trying to seek redemption, but she doesn't outwardly want to admit this, nor does she really think she's worthy or deserving of said redemption. She's an adult now, and she grew a conscience. A guilty one that weighs her down and makes her come back to earth to basically settle things and make peace, and though it's been difficult, I love how she's turned out so far.
#07: Akira Tsuchiya
I understand many have their reservations about Akira after what he did this arc, but he's still legitimately one of my favorite villains in this blog because despite the fact that he's a psychopath who kills and ruins people all just for causing Despair, he's just kinda super relatable. He constantly lives with the attitude of just being done with everyone's shit, and I know a lot of DR fans can relate to that. He's also the kind of guy who marches to the beat of his own drum, which is obviously a very slow beat. He rarely ever does what Tsumugi tells him to do, unless the plan interests him or gives him something to do, and his character in general is based around the idea of "Shut-in NEET who just so happens to have a power complex." Overall, what makes him unique to me is just how normal he is, especially when he's compared to the chaotic sea that is the Danganronpa Villains.
#06: Mikan Tsumiki
Novoselic Revolution had the very important role in the story of mending Mikan. Without her efforts and the sacrifices she made in that arc, there's a high chance that the group would have failed to retake the kingdom from Angie and Mikihiko. It goes without saying that the screentime Mikan got in this arc was some of my absolute favorite moments on this blog from a writers perspective. A lot of people in DR dislike Mikan for her actions and character change in the third case of the second game, which I really don't think is fair. Mikan was just the character chosen to be afflicted with the Despair Disease. Nothing else would have been changed had it been a different character, so her role early on in Survivor is mainly her trying to come to terms with her actions, as well as things like making things right with Hiyoko (and Ibuki by extrension) and reevaluating whether or not she's a good person. Mikan is an emotionally and mentally broken child, and it's my full intent in my writing of her to heal her wounds like she does for so many other people.
#05: Narumi Osone
Easily my favorite Zetsubou villain in the blog. During Novoselic Revolution, I really buttered up how much I enjoyed writing Mikihiko, but in reality, I was just waiting for the Rebirth Duo (her and Akira) to burst onto the scene. She didn't make for as great a twist villain in Life and Lies of Akeru Yozora as I would've liked her to be, but even now, I still feel like she left an impact. I mean, she committed quite the number of atrocities. The main reason why I like Narumi though, is how she diverges from the rest of the Zetsubou group. While most of them are doing their evil things for reasons that constitute to causing as much Despair as possible, she does it for almost the complete opposite reason. She absolutely despises Despair, and the only reason she's with Organization Zetsubou, is so that she can patiently await and watch as the Hope that stems from the people fighting back. It's also plays into her ideal. Narumi is so obsessed with Hope that she believes that anyone and everyone who is without hope, and gives into Despair, doesn't deserve to live (and ideal that also allows her to easily hit it off with Nagito). To name the best example: The UUV. Their revenge fantasy is based around the Despair they feel post Ayumu and Marin's deaths, and not around the Hope of their goal of reforming society, even if by force. When Narumi notices this, is angers her so much she murders all of them in cold blood, believing them to be beyond redemption. As a final note, Narumi's violent nature and lust for bloodshed (and lest not forget her weird obsession with Makoto) is also made all the more tragic when you remember she's literally just a 14 year old kid with not a lot of life experience. For someone to be this far gone at such a young age is pretty depressing, but it also provides me with a lot of great writing opportunities, and god damn it she isn't a fun character to write.
#04: Mukuro Ikusaba.
I could pretty much just copy/paste the basic things I said about Monaca's personal conflict for Mukuro, but on a much more extreme level. This is something that I plan on actually branching on later down the line, but Mukuro's backstory and reason why she has a presence here is briefly mentioned by Sayaka in one post. To sum up what she said, when the Foundation were first starting to use the machines to bring back the victims of the first killing game, Makoto was the one who suggested possibly bringing Mukuro back, something that understandably, his classmates initially were against. However, at the time, Kyoko was still new to being the Foundation Chairwoman, and Makoto very much pressed the issue with her. Kyoko eventually agreed to the resurrection, but in exchange, any and all actions committed by the soldier, most notably any treacherous or bad ones, would subsequently be Makoto's responsibility. Of course, as you can imagine, Makoto accepted these terms, and Mukuro was resurrected. For a while afterwards, many were very wary of her presence, and most didn't outright accept her as a member of the Foundation, even when the Remnants of Despair officially signed up. What you have to remember is that Mukuro wasn't really brainwashed into helping Junko, at least not in the same way that the Remnants were. Most of what she did for Junko is what she did willingly, but Makoto felt that in reality, Mukuro was just another one of Junko's victims and she'd never known Hope in her life, which is why she turned out so chaotic, so his whole intention of reviving her was to redeem her honor, of which he was pretty much successful. The main trait of Mukuro's though that I tend to focus on, is arguably her most serious: her PTSD. Of all the characters who could have been hit hard with PTSD, it makes the most sense for it to be a soldier, and since the beginning of her revival, Mukuro has been cursed by the lingering ghost of her dead Despair sister. Junko's presence in her mind less drives Mukuro insane though, and simply makes her doubt herself and her presence, wondering if it was worth being revived, or whether or not she truly deserves to live. But regardless of how she feels, she's duty bound to the end, and still supports everyone unquestionably, especially towards those in her own branch being Makoto, her boss, the man who saved her, and of course her undeniable love interest, and Kuripa to whom she disciplines, but also acts as a mother/big sister figure to.
#03: Hajime Hinata.
It might just be me, but I feel like Hajime in particular is the fan fav in this blog. I feel he's shown up in more posts than any other character, which is fine by me given he's also one of my personal favorite characters, and is probably my favorite protagonist (it really changes depending on my mood, honestly, I think they're all as great as each other). The remnants of Despair's conflict is an obvious one that you commonly see in post-game fics such as this one, and in Survivor, and my personal opinion, Hajime is undoubtedly the one who has it the hardest. However, out of all of the characters in the series who HAVE trauma (and let's be real, that's undoubtedly a LOT of characters in both DR canon, and this blog) he's also undoubtedly the one who handles it the best. However, there is a limit to how much pressure he can take, and that causes him to lash out (like he did with Mahiru during Misfortune's Revenge, which I know we don't like to talk about but its the most notable example). He's been through a whole load of shit and the pressure is constantly crushing him like a gigantic boulder, yet he still forces himself to carry it. Outside of my own writing, Hajime has so many conflicting thoughts and trauma in other fics, and in Survivor, I don't intend to flat out copy them, but I do desire to live up to them. The reason why Hajime has so many burdens placed upon him, and as of Misfortune's Revenge now has double as many, yet is still able to keep going strong, is because he's no longer allowing himself to be weighed down by events that are in the past and out of his control. What makes his ideal unique, is that he has power, almost limitless amounts of it, but instead of focusing on what he can do with it, he's more conflicted and focused on what he CAN'T do, and changing the past is one thing he can't, and as of such doesn't focus on it. He only ever focuses on the present, and the future, and worries about that. And you've got to hand it to the guy, while it's definitely been better, his life is actually super good right now. He has at least 15 really great friends/found family members, a home on an island resort, an AI companion in his phone who will always help him out and support him, a smoking-hot red-haired girlfriend, a pretty good job and a lot more. For him, it's not simply a matter of abiding by the Foundation and fixing the chaos that he indirectly caused. It's also about the fear of losing what he has, and wanting to protect it.
#02: Ayumu Fujimori.
I've said this one or two times before, but I think Ayumu turned out spectacular, and when I eventually had to kill him off, I felt really bad about doing so. The main reason why I removed him, and why I currently don't have any plans to bring him back, is due to my future plans, having him around would make little to no sense. He serves mainly as a catalyst for the new phase of the story, a much darker one, and with his death, we enter that phase. I know many people are worried about it, but it's not just Ayumu's reason for being in the story that makes him great. While it isn't obvious right away, the main character that I was trying to portray with him, is that he's basically the darker side of Hajime. The two of them share very similar traits in character, personality and backstory. Some notable points would be
Both of them are incredibly self-doubtful, and that self-doubt caused them to become Ultimate Hopes.
Both of them once held huge admiration for a powerful group of people. For Hajime it was Hope's Peak and for Ayumu it was the Japanese Government
Said power called them useless, which led to their transformation
Both have pretty sad backstories, which involve two different types of cruel parents and family's.
They both have a best friend who likes to sleep.
Said best friend ended up dying horribly right in front of them, with them both unable to do anything about it, which eventually leads them both to go insane and make some bad decisions.
Though their methods differ, ultimately, they both want the same thing: a brighter future for their friends and the people they love
Ayumu might be a threat, and an antagonist, but he doesn't really count as a "villain" per se. At the core, he's basically just a misguided young man, who the world treated like shit, so he just wants to get back at it. He's also an influential figure, pulling many people into his fight, and gaining many supporters outside of his friends in the UUV. For the short time he was on the blog, he was an absolute BLAST to write, and you can damn sure bet I'm going to miss him.
#01: Kuripa Kurafto.
This is undoubtedly the riskiest part of this list, especially since we're talking about an OC here, but I also think a lot of you guys saw this coming. I can understand why some of you might disagree with me on this placement, but I'll tell you now, if you're unimpressed, trust me, I am barely scratching the surface of Kuripa's character. As of such, I have to go on this based off of what's already known about him. His whole character I feel comes full circle at the end of the Ultra Despair Gang arc, in which the first monumental event in the blog actually happens: him killing Haiji Towa by stabbing him in the gut and sending him falling to his death. This is then followed by a speech to Makoto, Komaru, Toko and Byakuya, which basically lays out the key part of Kuripa's character, being his ideals. Every protagonist in Danganronpa goes by a certain ideal that contrasts that of their enemies. For Makoto, it's Hope, for Hajime, it's Future, and for Shuichi it's truth. Kuripa is the complete reverse, being a protagonist that represents Despair. He's not outright a villain, or even a generally bad guy, but he definitely has some apparent darkness to him, and is also incredibly violent when at the peak of rage. Of course, it all stems from a huge event in his life, the murder of his little sister Kotoko by the hands of Matta Gyalusetsu, which has led to his over-arcing conflict: his desire to find Matta and kill him as revenge. I tend to hate characters in stories who have the "My Sister is Dead" archetype or trope, but the main reason is because most characters who have that JUST have that, and for Kuripa that's something I'm trying to avoid. One of the most important parts of Kuripa's character is the contrast between his dark, almost psychopathic side that believes murder is a suitable way to indefinitely solve a problem, and his regular self, who to put simply, is a complete and total clown. He's like a walking meme, and makes a total fool out of himself, either through just being a mindless tomfool, a playful perv, or a loveable idiotic otaku. Still, his presence is indeed important to everyone around him, especially seen through his interactions with Makoto, Kibin, Mukuro, Uchui, Kokichi, The Kyojin's and the High Roller staff. This is another thing in regards to Kuripa's conflict that is quite saddening to. Similar to Hajime, as things currently stand, Kuripa has an excellent life. He's a successful animator who makes a lot of money from his work, he enjoys his time at the Future Foundation and really looks up to both Makoto and Mukuro who both treat him with a reciprocated amount of respect, he gets to work in tangent with his best friend, he has many pals, some of which are part of an anime club, and on top of it all, he has a cute girlfriend who playfully flirts back and forth with him all the time. He has everything a guy could possibly ever want, but due to his one track mind, he can never be satisfied knowing Kotoko's killer is still out there, and he will do whatever it takes to avenge her...even if he needs to cut a few people down to get it...
//Doing this kind of self-reflective character analysis is pretty refreshing and fun to be honest, although, doing it makes it sound like I have a big head, and am complementary of my own writing where I know many might disagree with my techniques and opinions. You're free to, believe me, but please keep any criticism constructive.

(udg rpg anon) Completely spitballing here, bare with me for a moment, I’ve got too many ideas rattling around in my brain.
What if the kids had taken over Towa Tower? Since Haiji’s resistance stays underground, having each of their respective headquarters be at the highest and lowest points of the city might be a cool idea.
Perhaps the hunting game could be changed to a challenge of sorts. As a target, you’re not allowed to leave the city, but at the top of the tower is a device that will remove the wristbands, therefore allowing you to escape. Assuming the tower has 50 floors or so, every 10th floor could be a boss battle with one of the kids. Each of the targets could be a new playable character. Anyone not in your party would stay with the resistance.
As you beat the Warriors of Hope, they would get tossed out into the streets. Rather than never being seen again, I think it’d be really interesting if they appeared in the final chapter and stalled Monaca so that you could run up the tower and deactivate the wristbands, the Monokumas, any electronic device that might be fueling Monaca’s reign over the city. A bit self-indulgent here, but maybe the game could end with Future Foundation taking in the WOH as a sort of rehabilitation project.
I think the concept of the kids base being the highest point and the adults base being the lowest point is nothing less than genius. It perfectly resembles their mindsets as well with the adults hiding away but the kids conquering. I don’t mind the hunt concept that they went with in the game but they didn’t use it enough. Especially since there should have been a stronger dilemma about hurting kids who are trying to hunt you down ESP with the plot twist of the kids being brainwashed.
As for the tower climbing idea its a very good concept but I think the concept of the entire game taking place there can boring very fast. It’s a nice final battle idea though. Fighting through challenges to the final boss would hype you up. Everything else could be good lead up. I def agree with targets becoming a part of your team though and they should be integral to the plot.
I also think that the remnants of despair should be vital to the plot personally. I think its the perfect way to tie all the games together. thh through captives, sdr2 through remnants. its perfect.
I do love the idea of a rehabilitation project for the WOH. I personally headcanon that jabberwock becomes “recovery island” where the despairs open to island to those seeking refuge and redemption. Who better to help you redeem then the remnants themselves? they have no room to judge. It also works perfect with the theme of self hope that sdr2 has

Fic Rec: Makoto Naegi and his daily life with Monaca Towa
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/22936009/chapters/55731961
Author: BrokeGex
Fandom: Danganronpa
This is one of those fics that I clicked on by accident and I’m glad I did. In summary, the Naegi family adopts Monaca Towa before all the Tragedy stuff goes down.
Oh boy.
Monaca is still the manipulative sociopath she was in canon and the author doesn’t sugarcoat it at all. She does some awful stuff just for the lolz, and her thought process is interesting to say the least. It’s a villain redemption story where the villain in question really does seem to be a villain at her core, which makes it all the more unique and interesting.

MONACA TOWA
ok so like I said earlier I watched a playthrough of UDG and I didn’t pay much attention so I barely know her but here we go
favorite thing about them
I love evil little kids so much, Artemis Fowl got me into that genre at a young age
least favorite thing about them
that she literally forcibly kissed someone... and gaslit all her friends...
favorite line
when she vagues Nagito in Future arc lmaoooo
brOTP
None
OTP
nah she’s a kid
nOTP
see above
random headcanon
I think her and Komaru might have become friends or even sister figures to each other if she’d like... chilled out earlier or had any redemption arc at all
unpopular opinion
I think the idea is that she... “wasn’t as abused as her friends” but from what I remember she was neglected by her dad and had a pedophile for a brother so... she had it rough I guess
song i associate with them
I’m sorry I never have a good answer for this one
favorite picture of them
Don’t have one but I do love the skeleton design on the back of her dress just imagery fun fact

A DR3 ANALYSIS
Sincerely, someone who is sick of people saying that it doesn't match up to cannon.
I decided to take this from a discord server I am in after multiple people asked me to put it online for the world to see, so -deep breath- here is my personal essay using quotes and screencaps from sdr2 as to how dr3 doesn’t stray from cannon, and sticks to the continual lore from the series. Y’all are just mean.
okay so we will start with since that seems to be the main controversial topic. first lets start with people saying it strays from cannon. it doesn't. the statement of brainwashing being what caused the remnants to fall to despair in sdr2 is clearly stated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's no mistake that this particular trope is taken from the final trial in sdr2
if you want to say that how the brainwashing is brought up is lazy writing, i can tell you that adding an entire developed character to explain how such a trope found its way into the lore of the  into the anime is not lazy. character development takes a lot of time, and is in no way lazy. not to mention it also explains how the brainwashing technology found its way into ultra despair girls in the first place. (ie: the helmets worn by all of the children. With a remnant of despair in the city, it could easily be how Monaca got her hands on that technology.)
if you want to say it takes away from junkos influence as a character and makes her less powerful then i raise her character trait of using every person she comes into contact with. it is in NO WAY out of character for her to use someone else's talent for her own gain. she uses matsudas tech for wiping memory of the kids in dr1 (see dr0), she uses monaca and her position in the towa family to spread technology for the end of the world (see udg), she uses mukuro as her personal bodyguard (see the ENTIRE SERIES), she uses izuru to shift the blame from her for the tragedy so she can fly under the radar in the killing game for dr1, (see dr0 and dr3)
Going to now jump to how the brainwashing does not take away from the remnants had done as far as the atrocities they committed. The whole theme in the hope arc was redemption. The remnants in the ANIME itself go out of their way to say that they dont expect forgiveness for what theyve done. and that they only seek atonement in any way that they can when they are speaking with mitarai as he is debating shutting down the other brainwashing thing that he has set up through the future arc.
I would provide screenshots but the only version of the anime i can find online is dubbed with no subtitles. but you can feel free to watch it yourself? The episiode itself is pretty easy to find.
if you wonder how the brainwashing is undone, watch the ova. World Destroyer is an alter ego created by hajizuru himself modified to do psychodives and repair damaged psych from within the neo world program. its implied that he ran that ai on every student who died within the program who not only patched up their brain from thinking it died, but helped revive them from despair as well.for the survivors of the killing school trip, we already know that they were already on the mend from despair due to awakened hajime glitching out the program for them to create their OWN future at the end of sdr2
going onto chiaki.  just rewatched this scene so im going to type this word for word as it comes up in the dr3 dub so that i dont get anything wrong. this is the imaginary chiaki talking to hajime as they are on the boat.
"that day when you entered the neoworld program, a cutting edge ai was built. codename nanami. First, they mined your hippocampus, compiled memories of esteemed authority figures, and the idea was to fuse those memories into a single personality that you could all trust. Imagine the surprise when it turned out they didnt have to bother.one memory overrode the rest. It was the same for all of you. Strange yes, but undeniably sweet. there was one person you'd all give anything to see again."
This explains how chiaki, though previously a real person, was also given an ai version of herself within the neo world program. it also gives a lot more weight to her character in the story in general.
as far as people saying chihiro made chiaki, that is not the case. Chihiros research was used in the development of the neoworld program. as well as matsudas (as the neurologist), and gekogaharas (as the therapist) at no point did it say that they ACTUALLY worked on the program. just that their research was used. ai chiaki likely refers to chihiro as her father and alter ego as her brother because it was chihiros tech that made her life possible within the program. even in her ftes its stated that she does not think of them in the streamline way that a human being thinks of family.
Okay so i've covered brainwashing, chiakis existence in both worlds, and the brainwashings somehow resolving the remnants of blame. (though it didnt) i think the other thing was nagitos despair?
so the thing about the brainwashing that i think gets misconstrued a lot is that it was NOT shown to change their core personalities. but it DID addict them to despair in the same way junko was, and nagitos core personality obviously revolves around hope.
Nagito has always been a character that bordered between hope and despair. even in dr2 hajime makes a point to say that his eyes a swirling with a mix of the two in the first trial. what seems to be the case post brainwashing is that nagito is a walking contradiction. he will do things under the influence of the brainwashing and wont question them until he thinks too hard about it. every time he thinks to hard about it he seems to have a mental break.
like when izuru states in drs "if you hate junko then explain your hand"
and he goes "huh... thats strange... do i... hate her?"
queue: "huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh"
or at the end of udg where he states that he hates AND loves her more than anyone else.
he cant coherently see what hope used to be to him anymore and for him, his ORIGINAL  want for hope was to find someone strong enough to not be killed by his luck
but that got skewed to a MUCH more junko-esque view post brainwashingh. i think those are the main topics that get debated if theres anything else you want me to lay out let me know or i can go more into detail if theres more that you want to know regarding these topics. otherwise i think i got my thoughts laid out now. You can even feel free to message me if you want a more thorough breakdown of the series.

Monaca: is she redeemable?
Hello! For once this post won’t be about AnR. I’m going to do an analysis of a certain character that is mainly hated in Danganronpa, yet I actually like. If you read the title of this post you already know who it is: Towa Monaca. I will be discussing a specific point about her and how it is related to either or not she can be redeemed. Take note that it is my opinion and that you’re free to disagree.
Tumblr media
I’ll begin roughly about the point I want to debate about Monaca. She’s a psychopath. Well, at least it is what I believe she is. First, let’s discuss what is a psychopath, because a lot of people are using that term wrongly, usually to describe crazy evil characters that kill people. First off, psychopaths aren’t crazy. They are actually quite rational and they are in control of themselves, they know what they are doing. If the character is acting crazy then the term you may be looking could be psychotic. Not the same as psychopaths. Psychotic people are considered criminally not responsible for their crimes, while psychopaths are.
But that’s beside the point. Then, if psychopaths aren’t just crazy killers, what are they? The best way to describe them would be social predator. They can look pretty normal, they wear some kind of mask of normalcy, to fit in society. They are incapable of having empathy or remorse for their actions. They are usually quite charismatic, manipulative, deceitful and controlling, and incapable to feel fear. Unlike popular belief, most of them aren’t murderers. Some of them become CEO, and are actually quite good at it. Psychopathy is also called anti-social personality disorder. Sociopathy is also called that way but it’s not totally the same as psychopaths. Both are incapable of empathy, but psychopaths are born that way, sociopaths are made. But in both case it can be a mix of nature and nurture. Which will be important when we’ll talk about Monaca’s case.
So why do I think Monaca is a psychopath? Well, through the game Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girl, Monaca exhibit a lot of psychopathic tendencies. She clearly lacks empathy and shows no remorse over her crimes, she quite charismatic, she’s manipulative, she likes to control others and is emotionally shallow. But she’s also sadistic and cruel, and enjoy others’ pain. She as no sympathy for anyone, not even her own allies. But some might tell me it’s because of her tragic past, that she’s actually a sociopath because she was “made” that way. Like I said earlier, both disorders can be a mix of nature and nurture. And sociopaths tend to be more impulsive and emotionally driven. Monaca is actually pretty cold and rational. Most of Monaca’s emotion was pretty much fake, to manipulate others into doing what she wanted, but I think that deep down she’s actually emotionally shallow. I believe Monaca’s psychopathic traits are nature, she’s born with them. But traits like sadism and cruelty would have been developed due to her bad childhood. So the current Monaca was made, and she would probably not have turned that way without her past, but I believe she would have still been a psychopath.
Without her bad childhood, Monaca would have probably ended up being the type of psychopath who becomes successful CEO. Shen wouldn’t have been a murderous mastermind who find joy in others misery and pain. But she would have been incapable of having genuine empathy for others and would have no issues using manipulation to her own benefit. But her past had an impact on her. The neglect and abuse made her dangerous, this is what made her murderous. And since she is a psychopath, the result was disastrous.
You may think that Monaca’s behaviour is solely the result of her childhood. Let me disagree. Unlike the other Warriors of Hope, Monaca’s past is never used in the story to excuse or justify her actions. And the other Warriors of Hope never showed any murderous tendencies before meeting Junko, while Monaca actually tried to kill her friends by making them commit suicide, for fun. So yeah, we got a little girl who wants to cause the death of her friends for fun. And Junko isn’t responsible for that at all. Whatever your past, a child would usually not plan the death of their friends. You really need to lack empathy to even think about doing that, and for fun. It’s probably her past that made her dangerous like that, but to me it has to be mixed with a disorder to actually think of doing that. And given her traits, psychopathy seems like the most plausible option. And I also think that Monaca’s past increased her psychopathic traits. For example, she learned to lie and manipulate at a early age when she had to fake being injured to gain sympathy. Usually it can take a lot of time for a psychopath to build their mask and their social skills, but Monaca is still a child. So I think her past helped her to build those earlier than a regular psychopath. If Monaca wasn’t a psychopath, then her past would have simply made her a liar and a manipulator, but not a murderer who enjoy others pain and misery.
I said that Monaca was emotionally shallow, even those she had a lot of tantrum in the game. But I’m pretty sure those were fake. She was just doing that to manipulate others. We can see how emotionally emotive she was when she was trying to manipulate Komaru into destroying the controller. Monaca was switching emotions all the time, one time she was crying, begging, being afraid, then suddenly smiling. All of those emotions were clearly fake, Monaca was actually pretty calm and in control of herself in the inside. It showed how emotionally shallow and manipulative Monaca is. She’s also quite charismatic, she easily charmed the Warriors of Hope into doing her bidding, She also had no problem using their weakness against them, like using Kotoko trauma or Nagisa’s love for her. It shows how cruel she is and how she lacks empathy, even for her own “friends”.
Then what about her relationship with Junko? She clearly seems to love Junko and hold her in respect. But is really love? We never saw Monaca actually be sad over Junko’s death. She was obsessed by Junko, but I think it wasn’t out of genuine love, more like envy. Junko had everything Monaca didn’t. Junko was loved, she was powerful, and she had the mean to accomplish her goal. Monaca wanted to have what Junko had, be like her. But Junko and Monaca’s goal was quite different. Junko wanted despair for the sake of despair, even for herself, while Monaca mostly wanted to cause despair to others for the sake of making them suffer. Unlike Monaca, Junko isn’t a psychopath. Junko is her own type of fucked up that I’ll keep for another analysis, maybe (someone told me she probably had a mix of defeating personality disorder, Narcissistic personality disorder and Borderline Personality disorder and I agree). So in a way, Monaca used Junko, she was her model yes, but also a mean for her own ambition. Making others suffer like, because herself has suffered. Interesting point, most psychopaths had a complicated relationship with their mothers, especially serial killers. Monaca’s mother abandoned her.
So all of this to know if Monaca can be redeem or not. Well, to be short, I don’t think she can be redeemed. Monaca can’t have empathy or remorse regarding her action, making it almost impossible for her to have redemption. If she ever apologizes, that wouldn’t be sincere. At best she could realize that what she did was wrong without feeling bad about it and decided that it wouldn’t be in her best interest to be a villain and pretend she wants to change. But it wouldn’t be genuine and therefore, not a real redemption. She can’t change her true nature, but she could change her behaviour to get what she wants.
So in conclusion, even if Monaca’s past did shape her into the monster she is, there is a part that she was born with, so even without her past she would have been a psychopath. Just not the dangerous and murderous type. And if she wasn’t born as a psychopath, she wouldn’t have been as worst as she is now. And that makes her, in my eyes, unredeemable.
So that’s all. I hope you like this analysis, if you have any comments don’t hesitate to tell me, either you agree or disagree with me. Thanks for reading.

22.) Favorite Random/Unnecessary Moment?
I’m not sure what qualifies as ‘random/unnecessary’? Does Akane and Nekomaru’s spar on the beach in chapter 2 count?
38.) Least Favorite Character?
While I do dislike Togami, Tsumugi Shirogane can straight up go to hell alongside Monaca and Haiji Towa.
41.) Best Character Design?
Best design? Ooohhhhh, uhhhhh....that’s really hard to say. But I will admit as the series goes on I find that I like the uniform designs from the earlier games better, becuause as they go on, they become way less uniform-looking, like, what the fuck is that even Rantaro, what the fuck are you wearing y’all in V3 I know you have talents so get to be eccentric but those are not uniforms you’re supposed to be in school uniforms you can’t just slap a school emblem on anything and call it a day.
43.) Favorite Eye Design?
MOTHERFUCKING HAJIME. How can you not love those?
56.) Which Character Did You Not Expect To Die But They Did?
I can’t remember my initial opinions on ‘dying/not dying’ from 1 and 2, but for v3 I absolutely predicted Kaito, Kokichi, and possibly Tenko to make it to the end. So, uh, whoops. Also obviously Kaede.
65.) What’s Your Option On The Danganronpa 3 Anime?
I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT AND YOU CAN PRY SIDE HOPE FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS LET THEM HAVE THEIR HAPPY ENDING.
I mean I do have 2 complaints -- the timing of 77-B’s recovery did seem rushed, but timeskips hapen and that’s nothing fanfic can’t fix/expand on, and I really wish they had been wearing the Despair outfits they clearly went in with rather than their in-program outfits, but I also do get that the art team wanted them more recognizable -- but those are super minor and my absolute sheer love for the anime overpowers it.
69.) Hope or Despair?
Not to sound like Nagito or anything, but Hope hands down. It’s kind of-- it’s kind of a reason why I ended up identifying wit him very hard, I guess? Because the idea of hanging onto hope like that...to believe in the idea that no matter how tough it gets, no matter how much suffering there is, it’s going to get better? That there is always, always, always a light at the end of the darkness, and that no matter what, goodness overcomes evil? Yeah, same. In all of my writing, no matter how much suffering I put my characters through, I refuse to give them anything less than a happy ending, because no matter what anyone’s suffered, no matter how much has happened or what they’ve done, I believe absolutely in the power of hope and redemption. So...haha, yeah. /nagito
81.)A Character Who You’d Like To Snuggle?
Just give me Nagito and half the cast of V3, thanks.
87.)Headcanon on Pregame V3 Characters?
I believe that the pregame V3 gang were a lot like themselves in the game. There had to be something to build their personas off -- you can’t overwrite personalities from scratch, and I cannot see them being 180s, that doesn’t make sense to me. They were a lot like themselves, but their personas were...themselves, but warped and twisted into parodies and stereotypes that would be more entertaining.
95.) Your Absolute OTP
KOMAHINA OH MY GOD
96.) Your Absolute BroTP
Fuyuhiko and Hajime, or Shuichi and Kaito.
97.) Any OT3
Uh, duh, KomaHinaNami :’)
99.) An Overrated Ship Which Is Your NOTP
Saiouma, sorry. Can’t stand it. Maybe if things were different, but Shuichi barely tried to really understand him, Kokichi has massive trust issues, and after Chapter 4 on, I really, really can’t see them being a thing, ever. Maybe friends if they really worked at it, but definitely not a ship.

Spoilers for V3, so these are under the cut!
6. Favorite plot twist?
DR1: Gosh, it’s a tie between Sayaka being the one killed and even planning to kill to escape the game and Naegi escaping execution!!! Bot of them realy threw me for a loop! I will say that discovering Sayaka was murdered left the greater impact, though, and was the reason I stuck to Danganronpa early on. It blew my mind at the time!
DR2: Hajime being Izuru/the “mastermind” was the most shocking thing to me! I really wasn’t expecting that??? I really came to love Hajime a lot by this point, and was feeling incredibly sorry for him already. When we were exploring the school for the last trial’s investigation and the Hope Cultivation Plan came up, I kinda figured it out. I don’t think I connected the dots completely though, ahaha. Also, just the fact that all of them were evil and responsible for spreading Despair worldwide was such a great plot twist, in my opinion!
DRAE: There weren’t many plot twists in this game, but I guess the most shocking was that Monaca was not an invalid. Like, she was pretty obviously the one running the show, and she was obsessed with Junko, but her faking being handicapped to control both her family and friends for sympathy and to get what she wanted was a genius plan on her part!
V3: I honestly didn’t like them all that much, especially Kaede not being the protag. The ending one where Tsumugi reveals everything is a lie (literally) wasn’t bad or good in my opinion. Like, I wasn’t necessarily disappointed by the ending like I thought I would be (that one was spoiled even before the game released in Japan because I couldn’t blacklist on PC and thought going through Hajime’s tag would be okay :( Damn you, dataminers!!!), I kinda just accepted that this was it. Also the trio being alive was not an exciting plot twist in the least (I love you Himiko and Maki, but your survival kinda makes me go ehhh with how the game ended). I guess that only leaves Kaito being ill and dying before his execution killed him as my favorite! I really liked how that last execution (not counting Danganronpa’s execution) was the reverse of the very first execution we see (Jin Kirigiri’s), and I already loved Kaito. It was nice that Kaito’s final goodbye was a middle finger to Danganronpa’s theme of killing the blackened with an over-the-top execution!
9. Favorite Ultimate Talent?
These are all very tough decisions…
DR1: Ultimate Biker Gang Leader! I honestly would never expect such a talent to exist, and I gotta wonder how HPA was able to gather data for that talent, hahaha. It helps that I found Mondo endearing even if he swears a bit and reacts with violence. He hast a golden heart full of regrets, and I liked his backstory! Also the talent itself is just… really cool.
DR2: Ok, so this is kinda weird, but Ultimate Lucky Student. Makoto was a totally different kind of Ultimate Lucky Student than Komaeda’s, where all-in-all he is an average guy and his luck only affects him sometimes. While that is an interesting talent, it’s not as interesting as Komaeda’s. Komaeda is probably the truest definition of Ultimate Luckster! His luck is tragic. It takes away any personal relationships and turns it into materialistic fortune. It is so powerful it warped Komaeda and his view of the world drastically. Gosh, it is very interesting and gets me wondering what could possibly happen around Komaeda because of his luck in different situations and with different people. Truly, a fascinating talent that I wouldn’t bestow on anyone!
DRAE: There were only a few people with an Ultimate Talent here, haha. I liked that Kotoko was the Ultimate Li’l Drama who actually will not perform for anyone (understandably) and the Fighter of the Group! If that counts, haha. Otherwise we only have Byakuya, Fukawa/Syo, Makoto, and Komaeda (and technically Izuru but he is on the screen for, like, 5 seconds and has every talent, so that would be boring anyways). If I had to choose between the four talents without Komaeda repeated, I think the most interesting would be Syo’s Ultimate Murderous Fiend! It’s really interesting to me that she’s a split personality of Toko. I kinda have to wonder how Toko can get exhausted easily, but Syo can slash and dash, even hurling herself several feet in the air, without breaking a sweat!
V3: It is a tie between Ultimate Anthropolgist and Ultimate Mage Magician! Unlike with the previous installments of the series, I was able to just see the talents before knowing the characters, though, so Ultimate Magician was the one that really caught my eye since I’m obsessed with Fantasy AUs, especially of the RPG kind with that class system! I’ve also always been really fasinated by Magic and magicians in general, haha. After playing the game, though, Kiyo really sold me on the Ultimate Anthropologist talent! I was a Cognitive Science major in the school within the university that focuses on the humanities, so not only am I very interested in human cognitive thinking as individuals and as a group, but I took a lot of history and some anthropology courses. I really nerded out with Kiyo and Shuichi during those FTEs! History/Folklore is truly fascinating!
11. A character you’d revive?
Alright, this is a tough one for some of these because most of the ones I liked who died died “well,” as in their story was finished and satisfying. I’d surely love to see them alive again, true, but if we are going by canon and I could only bring back one, then it almost feels cheap. Kinda like “DR3 cheap.” That makes most of these characters not my favorites, but ones i felt deserve a second chance/should have survived.
DR1: Ishimaru. He isn’t my favorite character (I’m honestly gonna place him in the “he’s ok!” range), but he clearly didn’t have any satisfying development. You can’t get FTEs from his Kiyondo form, and he dies having done very little as Kiyondo other then some inconvenience regarding Alter Ego! It would probably be super interesting to see what he would do in later chapters, and if he ever snaps out of it in the chapters after.
DR2 (assuming the DR3 anime never happened): Saionji died for nothing, let’s be real here, lol. She was just barely going to reform herself and become a better person, and then she dies, offscreen, on accident. A friend also helped me realize that we never come across her murder weapon. I think that what would have been the best solution was not having a double murder. Plus, it would make it interesting to see whether she is able to forgive Kuzuryuu at all or not, how that affects the groups trust in each other in later parts of the game (since it is really hard to get close to her since she doesn’t trust people easily), and especially her reaction to being Ultimate Despair, as well as her growth spurt.
DRAE: Chihiro’s dad Taichi. He and Yuta died for shock, but how sad would it be if he was alive and found out his son was killed? And that his son’s legacy, Alter Ego, survived? Man, what a tragedy! It would have been nice to see him tag along with Toko and Komaru to the adult’s base and maybe try to hack into devices, or slowly give upgrades to Komaru making her life a little easier. He could also join Togami and leave Towa City.  He’d be an incredible asset to Future Foundation, but he would either refuse out of grief, or he’d take time to warm up to the idea, before accepting and becoming the head of any project regarding the Neo World Program/Alter Ego Chihiro, working closely with Miaya, and keeping close to those who had been Chihiro’s friends.
V3: hmmmm, this one I don’t know for sure. It’s between Hoshi, Miu, Kiibo, and… this may surprise you, but Angie as well.
*** Angie Negativity, you can skip it ***
I hate Angie, but she honestly needs the story development. She got the most abrupt ending, another offscreen death, and no resolution. Honestly speaking, if she had a better story and some form of redemption/questioning of her actions, I would like her a lot more. She just never learned that what she did was wrong, and unlike in her FTEs, telling her “no” made her stick more to her own opinion. Like, initially I didn’t like Celeste in CH3, but I actually grew to like her because she had that backstory that made her want to be more than she was, and she anyways accepted her death in the end without being spiteful and ruining the secret of Alter Ego, even giving the others a hint of where she kept him. She was leagues a better character than Angie. Angie, I was starting to kinda accept her after finishing her FTEs when I was still in CH2 (even if I hate the racial stereotypes, what with orgies, sacrifices, etc). She really made me mad when she refused to listen to anyone else and manipulated others to agree with her (I have an extremely soft spot for Himiko and Gonta, so my bias didn’t help her at all). I’ll give her that she’s really sly and a lot smarter than she tries to let on, but  her cutesy personality combined with manipulation to convert to a religion, suggested by light brainwashing using her paintings (and the fact the others were converted overnight), all so that she can get whatever she wants, and then not seeing any kind of downfall: no backlash or consequences because of what she did? It makes me mad. I’m sorry. I hate her and yet, she is one of the people I’d revive, hahaha. Geez, I honestly tried to like her despite my initial feelings I would dislike her, lol.
*** End of Angie Negativity ***
Kiibo dying while the other three survived is something that rubs me the wrong way since he almost never got respect until he was destroying the school, even when he was one of the few character that were actually helpful during the trials. Honestly, if the others survived, which, given the ending, was kinda pointless, then him surviving as well wouldn’t detract from the impact. Seriously, if anyone deserved to survive, it would be him or Maki.
As for Miu, her death felt like a cop out, for some reason. I can’t explain it exactly… I know that her being killed was because they needed her to go after Kokichi, so that they could get him to trick Gonta to kill her, but it feels wrong somehow? Like there was unfinished business? She had the electrohammers, electrobombs, a remote control, and a bug catcher, her more amazing inventions, made after her death. All her upgrades to Kiibo were very useful, but not as amazing. A drone and the camera set up are really simple, too. Her working with Kokichi on these amazing inventions feels like a plothole instead of plausible. It would be really nice to see her survive since, despite being vulgar, she’s really entertaining! And I wonder how she’d react to being told she wasn’t real, nor was she actually a genius inventor.
And I can’t forget Hoshi! He died horribly for no reason. Kirumi could have bashed him in the head with a tennis racket, or against the wall or something, after she knocked him out. There was no need to pin the blame on anyone. The second trial p*ssed me off so much because it was unnecessarily convoluted and cruel for no reason and anyways made no sense. My heart truly goes out for Hoshi. He had a horrible life! He was imprisoned for killing the Mafiai, was a true hero, and I wish he could have learned that he could find something to live for.
So yeah, V3 was the hardest for me this question, hahaha. I honestly can’t choose between these four. BIG SIGH
If this was bot the answer you were hoping for and you just wanted to get a list of my faves who dued, it would go like this: Sakura, Komaeda, Taichi, and Kaito! Priority goes to Sakura since Ko lives post-canon, hahaha
19. Favorite Free Time Events
DR1: Alright, honestly I need to actually play this game myself. I’ve only seen LPs of the game, and the anime does not have FTEs. The only FTEs I recall are Sayaka’s, Chihiro’s, Ishimaru’s, Kyoko’s, Sakura’s, and Asahina’s. I don’t think I can really say which is my favorite, but I really like Sakura’s and Kyoko’s. I just… can’t remember most of their backstories ^^
DR2: DR2 had too many good FTEs. Komaeda’s are probably the ones I liked the most, though? I didn’t care much for Komaeda initially. He was an interesting character, and I didn’t hate him (I was very neutral). I felt like there was more to him, so when I played the game myself after abandoning the LP I was watching, I went after him first and it changed my mind completely! I like it when a character’s background is explained and matches consequences and actions the character makes during the main story, and DR2 did this really well for my taste. Komaeda’s helped explain everything and made him a sympathetic character and helped me to understand him. Of course, it also sparked the Koma/Hina shipping, hahaha. If I had to come up with a runner up, it would be Souda’s for a similar reason! His also ties really well to the main story, especially with not being able to finish his FTEs until like after CH4, after he is done doubting Hajime.
V3: I’m stuck between Kiyo and Maki’s. Kiyo’s had more of an impact on me, though, because it flipped my initial suspicion I would hate him. Him being fascinated with anthropology and teaching Shuichi about it made me seriously love him as a character even though I was sure at the time I would hate him since I was spoiled about the incest plot twist. Maki’s was really well explained and tied nicely to the game’s story. She is kinda like Komaeda, in a way, hahaha. She had a tragic backstory because of her talent, been through hell, lost someone very precious to her, and her talent makes her actively try to avoid people and trust them. And, like I said before, I like FTEs that help explain why a character reacts the way they do (although in her case, a small part of her FTEs do land up in the main story, so I say they were slightly less effective, but tied better to the story)
DRAE doesn’t have FTEs, but there are explained backstories of the kids, and I loved Nagisa. His was the most relatable, with all of that pressure to succeed, never feeling good enough.
25. Saddest Death
DR1: 100% Sakura’s!!! She’s a real gem of a character, and I wish Danganronpa had more female characters that were like her! Anyways, she was so interesting, and not just for how she looks or her talent, but that she was the traitor torn by family duty and her loyalty to her friends. She thought that the best way to end this killing game was by sacrificing herself so that the group would not be split. She was so selfless and loved so much, yet she was treated horribly in her last hours because Monokuma made sure to make her as disliked as possible. And then he spits on her death further by stealing her last letter and will so he could use Hina to make the trial more interesting. My heart goes out to her more than anyone in DR1.
DR2: My gut instinct was to say “Komaeda” or “Nanami”, but truth be told, CH2 wrecked me! Peko’s execution really got to me because, firstly, I never suspected her, and secondly, her backstory with Fuyuhiko and the fact she killed and died to save him made the execution 10 times worse to endure! I hadn’t seen her FTE’s all the way through the first time, but I saw most of them and while she hadn’t been a favorite, she had a cute personality! I really did like her!. What made her death worse was Fuyuhiko’s reaction and him trying to intervene. I’m getting shills remembering it ^^;
DRAE: Most probably Taichi! Though it is hard to choose between him and Yuta, Taichi’s was the one that was most tragic, because up to his dying breath he was so excited to be able to have the chance to meet his son again. I mean, even if he did survive, his son would still be dead, but somehow it just felt worse than Yuta’s since we seemed to get to know Taichi better (he worked at Towa for the company, we talked to him more and his love for his son).
V3: Another hard one, and it is between Kaede, Hoshi, and Gonta… I feel like none of these three should have died, or at least for Gonta and Hoshi, not the way that they did. Gonta’s was the one I felt the most emotional over leading up to his death because of the present feeling of how Kokichi betrayed him and the feeling of how it wasn’t even his fault, really. Kaede’s I felt the angriest at because she was 100 times a better protag than Shuichi and I loved her. It doesn’t help that her death was especially tragic and her execution was gruesome (not that Gonta’s wasn’t gruesome, but it was too weird for me to feel much). Hoshi’s I felt the saddest over during the trial because of just how not-fair this was. I don’t even hate Kirumi, I really hate the writers for the trial because of all the pointless and illogical parts of the case and how Hoshi was murdered, but I ranted enough about it.
