This was not exactly what Caleb had envisioned when he invited Mollymauk over for a drink at his home. Of course, he always longed to spend more time with the charming tiefling. But now, rather abruptly, they sat on the plush couch in his living room, lips pressed together, and the unmistakable taste of rich, expensive wine lingering upon their tongues.

Caleb's normally reserved demeanor had been suddenly overcome by a wave of desire. For so long, he spent much effort suppressing any hint of his less-than-platonic feelings for Molly throughout their recovery, but something about tonight made it nearly impossible to hold back any longer. Perhaps it was the way the wine seemed to lift his inhibitions, or the relaxed and familiar way Mollymauk carried themself around him now, reminiscent of when they first met. Whatever the cause, Caleb could not resist closing the physical distance between them.

And Molly kissed him back. The human pulled them closer by the soft fabric of their shirt, their lips clinging together in a series of kiss after kiss after kiss. It was an unexpected display of eagerness from Caleb Widogast, a typically reserved wizard who only showed such enthusiasm when discovering a new spell or rare book. This time, his eagerness was evident in the way he fumbled with his hands, unsure of where to place them, only sure he wanted more.

Only when Caleb realized he had essentially ambushed Mollymauk’s face without so much as a word, did he pull back with cheeks flushed brightly. “Ach, I am… so sorry. Is this okay, Mollymauk?” I want you.

Thess vs Cosplayers

The one thing I didn't talk about when I was talking about MCM Comic Con was the cosplayers. I generally enjoy watching the cosplayers for a number of reasons. I mean, obviously it's just generally fun to see how into things people get, but also it's a good way to gauge general trends in terms of characters etc. So I look out for the stuff I know and go from there.

Critical Role was obviously very heavily represented, cosplayers spreading their efforts over all three campaigns. However, I think Vox Machina got the most overall coverage, and there were a lot of instances where you could tell when someone was doing the TLoVM versions and when they were doing the original campaign version. I think Keyleth and Scanlan got the most overall coverage from the Vox Machina campaign, with Vex, Vax, and Percy not far behind. I saw a couple of good Pikes and exactly one Grog. Also one Arkhan, one Delilah, one Sylas (not a pairing) and a Raven Queen. Oh, and two Trinkets, leaving aside the Vexes who were carrying Trinket plushes (or in one case, had a specially made Trinket-shaped wheelchair rest). For the Mighty Nein, Jester was entirely the front-runner, followed not-very-closely by Yasha, Caleb, and Mollymauk. There were more Veths than Notts, if you see what I mean, and one of the Veths was with her partner, who was dressed as Yeza. I saw a couple of Fjords, a couple of Beaus, and one Caduceus. For NPCs, apart from the aforementioned Yeza, there were a few Esseks and an awful lot of Avantikas. Also one Professor Thaddeus. Then there were Bell's Hells, and Laudna was the clear leader on that particular scoreboard, with Imogen a relatively close second. A fair few Ashtons, some with exceptionally good headpieces and even better hammers. A few really nicely done Fearnes. One Orym, one Chetney, and while I didn't see anyone specifically cosplaying FCG, there were a couple of people who made puppet-FCGs. Thinking about it, I even saw a couple of Bertrands. And, while not directly CR cosplay, one Deadpool cosplayer who had a Gilmore's Glorious Goods bathrobe on over their costume for the CR group photos.

Of course, with the popularity of Baldur's Gate 3 and the entire cast being present at MCM Comic Con, there were a lot of Baldur's Gate 3 cosplays. In terms of which characters got the most attention, Astarion won by a country mile. Marion actually expressed a bit of surprise at Astarion's popularity just because she'd been given to understand that he was a bit of a shit, and then I had to explain the concept of a "poor little meow-meow" and that Astarion was basically Zevran Aranai but amplified ... and then I had to explain Zevran and I finally just gave up and stuck with "Sometimes they like the shitheels and also his cosplay is one of the easiest to do". Anyway, there were some really impressive Astarions. Runner-up was Shadowheart, and Karlach was a distant third. I saw a couple of Gales, one Halsin, a really impressive Lae'zel, and I think a Minthara. Also a few people I'm pretty sure were cosplaying their own Tavs, and the most impressive fucking illithid costume I could have imagined. Wyll and Jaheira were not represented anywhere that I saw, which is a shame. I did see an Isobel, though. And I would have loved to see what some of those cosplayers did with Dame Aylin, but not that I saw this year.

Going more into the generalities! On the subject of video games, there were a few Links and Zeldas, a lot of Princess Peaches and a fairly impressive number of Marios and Luigis. (There was a steampunk Mario and Luigi pairing that was really cool.) There was the Classic Horror Quartet - a group consisting of Freddy Kreuger, Ghostface, Jason, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre person. I was really gratified to see an Aloy. There's this one elderly couple who has been at MCM Comic Con every year I've been there, and they do the most impressive Warhammer 40K cosplay - the "We put their picture in our advertising for the convention" kind of impressive. (And those two have to be in their sixties at minimum so anyone who says this shit is only for kids needs to get a clue.) These were not the only WH40K cosplayers, but the most impressive - though there was someone in White Templar cosplay that did give them a bit of a run for their money. Obviously a lot of One Piece, given the live action series coming out. A few Disney princesses (and one Snow White's Wicked Stepmother circa 1937). A lot of Spider-men, obviously, of varying iterations - a couple of Spider-Punks, a gratifying number of Spider-Gwens, and so many different iterations of Spider-Man from Across the Spider-Verse.

Side note: between that and the penis-bearers who cosplayed Deadpool in body-stocking instead of crafted body armour, I desperately wanted to hold a sign recommending that those people look into the concept of a dance belt. So many dick-prints. A few avoided it by doing like Miles Morales in the earlier parts of Into the Spider-Verse and wearing shorts over their tights, but the rest ... yeah. So many dick-prints.

Star Wars, obviously. A couple of Leias, a few Reys, and SO MANY MANDOS. Mostly Din Djarin, obviously, but the occasional Boba Fett, Bo Katan and Sabine Wren. A few Anakins, like maybe two Obi-Wans, a couple of Heras, one really impressive Kanan, one equally impressive Ahsoka, one Dagobah-training-montage!Luke with a Yoda backpack puppet, and like two Revans. Also a lot of Darths, but not necessarily all the ones most people know about. I mean, sure, a fair few Vaders and a couple of Mauls, but also Darth Malgus and one really impressive Darth Nihilus. There were also several members of Imperial military, including a Moff Gideon complete with Darksaber and an Assistant Director Krennick. There were a couple of more generic Star Wars aliens too - a Duros bounty hunter and a couple of impressive Twi'leks.

The one thing that felt almost conspicuous in its absence? No Dragon Age. No Mass Effect. I mean, we had a couple of Homestuck characters and we didn't get one Morrigan or Zevran or Varric? Maybe all the cosplayers are waiting for DA4. Good luck to them; Bioware seems to be having another of those Development Hell moments.

Anyway, there was way too much great cosplay to list it all, and I probably missed some good ones along the way, but those were the highlights for me - well, the recognisable highlights, since there were a lot of really impressive cosplays but since I'm not huge into most anime I have no idea what they were cosplaying that was so impressive. And no, there are no pictures. I thought about it, but honestly, trying to balance cane and camera felt like a lost cause and they probably would have come out badly anyway.

Plush, soft, gentle, friend shaped. Yet, this one is weighted with grief, the warmth inside tinged a deep maroon, rather than blue, that sea of grief marred with the blood of the fallen that the bodies won't sink into to rest.

He refuses to let go.

Even at the behest of Aryin, who has other things to do, other missions, other people to save, other worlds who need them. Even when the worlds are falling apart, even when the cosmos needs its knight, even when the balance has made it clear that happiness is on the backburner and they need heroes not people.

Mollymauk Tealeaf refuses to let them go.

Aryin sighs, not knowing how to explain that, they're sorry, but this is the way that things are, because they know that Mollymauk would snarl and snap and turn their blade upon the cosmos and dare it to take Aryin from them. They would challenge the cosmos and the cosmos would find them wanting. That's how all of this began, and that's how it would all end: with a dream.

" Addam and Gwen would love you. " ── They finally sigh, wrapping their arms around the smaller being, hold loose at first. " You should meet them, sometime. They would agree, that I need to love myself more. Conspirators, the bunch of you. " Aryin jests, grip tightening. " ... I don't want to go. " They whisper into his hair, like a dream they wished they'd forgotten.

That is a very good question lol. Demi? Pan? idk I’ve been going with one or both of those lately because they feel like the closest fit. But also sexuality is fluid and confusing :p

My two Critical Role t-shirts, the Mollymauk one and the Don’t Forget to Love Each Other one because there are /so few/ things you can find that have the agender flag on them! They’re usually what I wear at home, which means I wear them a lot

I used to read fic before bed quite often! It’s been a long time since I read actual books before bed. Now I rarely even read fic though, I’ve developed a tendency to stay up watching stuff/drawing/playing games/etc until I’m nodding off and too exhausted to stay awake, and then I just go to bed. I do miss reading fic before bed tho tbh

If I put it in terms of candles I tend to love more fruity and floral scents! But not overpoweringly so

aphrodite - favorite actress/actor?

Uhhh hmm. I mean I guess I’d say Taliesin Jaffe and Matthew Mercer, because they’re both really important role models and inspirations to me, but that’s through Critical Role and not their more traditional (voice) acting work. David Tennant is also hecking fantastic and I love him (and many other actors from Doctor Who)

plush - how many stuffed animals do you still own?

More than I know to count lol, I also have a few bins of ‘em still. I usually have 2-3 in my bedroom (I have a Terriermon plushie who is perfect for hugging), and then 10-15 that I usually have out ‘on display’ including my three most important stuffed animals from when I was a kid uwu <3

It is finally time

I got some fabric, modified a coat pattern I've already made twice, and this time made it with a full lining.

Great, it fits and he looks happy, now on to the hard part!

Of course I took some creative liberties because of the size and because the coat literally never looks the same.

You know that thing that happened back in 2014 when I got super depressed and spent a week binge-watching Red vs Blue, and wound up in the fandom?  And spent a month coming up with an armor pattern?

I’m not saying it’s happening again but I am very depressed that I’m still unemployed, and I am binge-watching Critical Role, and I did spend a good chunk of time on my own desk-dwelling Mollymauk.

I fucked around with the head pattern from @sewbro and bullshit the body pattern - he’s minky and faux suede and fucking SILK CHARMEUSE which I will NEVER DO AGAIN BECAUSE IT FUCKING DOESN’T WORK ON PLUSH SCALE, JUST A HEAD’S UP FUTURE RONI.  The coat (which I DID INDEED LINE, THIS IS THE SMALLEST THING I’VE LINED TO DATE) is removable but it’s a damn hassle so he just lives in it lmao.  His horns are apoxie sculpt and way too heavy.  His best feature?  BEANS IN HIS FEET AND BUTT AND FINGERS.  

I hand-sewed the designs on his pants, but thankfully I just did some cool shit with the sewing machine for the rest.  Each of those hair chunks is an individually sewn piece that was then applied to the head.  

I also custom-painted the eyes. 

I’m very tired.

Caleb could not help but smile softly at Mollymauk's gentle yet firm insistence. They always seemed to know exactly what he needed, even when he was too stubborn or preoccupied to realize it himself. "Ja, sleep sounds very tempting right about now," he admitted, stifling a yawn. The exhaustion was finally catching up to him, weeks of stress and turmoil taking their toll. The wizard allowed himself to be guided towards their bedroom, Molly's warm hand at the small of his back a comforting presence.

He couldn't deny the allure of their soft, inviting bed after so many nights spent planning with Beauregard away from home. And the promise of being wrapped up in his partner's loving embrace, surrounded by their little family of furry companions, made his heart swell with contentment. "I suppose missing one more day won't hurt," Caleb acquiesced, knowing his students would understand. They adored Mollymauk and their baked treats.

"But only because you insist, liebling." He turned to press a tender kiss to the tiefling's cheek before slipping under the covers, sinking into the plush mattress with a grateful sigh. As Molly busied themselves in the kitchen preparing the tea, Caleb felt the events of the past weeks wash over him once more. But this time, the painful memories were tempered by a sense of peace and belonging. Here in their cozy home the horrors of facing Trent and his own troubled past felt more distant, less overwhelming.

The tiefling soon returned, two steaming mugs of chamomile tea in hand. They set them on the bedside table before climbing in beside Caleb, lavender form fitting perfectly against his side as though they were always meant to be there. "Thank you, Mollymauk," Caleb murmured, voice already heavy with impending sleep as he turned to nuzzle into the tiefling's neck. "For everything. I am sorry I took that for granted, even if my intentions were good."

"I am very glad to hear it..." Molly uttered as they rest their forehead against that of Caleb's, drawing him into another hug for but a moment. "But I will be more so glad when I can have you home and all to myself...not gallivanting about without me." One more nudge, of course, to reiterate that he wasn't ever allowed to scare them like that ever again. Molly would always be thankful for Caleb wanting to protect them, but he couldn't protect them from everything. He would do them more harm than good should he ever disappear like that again.

"But, I do believe this is a good time for us to settle in bed. You look exhausted, dear love. I mean. A different level of exhausted than normal. I want you in that bed that has sorely been neglected these last few weeks. You, me, Frumpkin, and Toast, all in a cuddle puddle to rest through the night and far into tomorrow afternoon." Molly ran their hand along the length of Caleb's back, beckoning him to follow some semblance of 'direction' at this point. Molly wanted him well rested. They knew it would be difficult. Hell, if they were Caleb, they were certain that they would have nothing but nightmares for days to come.

The tiefling wanted to remain positive, though. They wanted and hoped to whatever gods were out there that Caleb would sleep peacefully within their arms. That he would catch up on whatever he had been lacking in the last few weeks now that he was home with them and surrounded by the comfort of the home that they had created for one another. Surrounded by the sweet smell of books and the ever lingering petrichor from the plants that Molly was trying to grow.

"Move along now, Firefly. I won't be hearing of any fussing about sleeping in on a school day. You deserve rest. I will bake strudel muffins for your students and they can call it a rest day for themselves as well." They released him hesitantly from their arms before patting him at his buttocks lovingly. "I'm going to make us some chamomile tea so that way we can rest easy."
