Nour El-Sherif and Mohamed Mounir in An Egyptian Story (Youssef Chahine, 1982)
Cast: Nour El-Sherif, Oussama Nadir, Mohsen Mohieddin, Yousra, Ahmed Mehrez, Mohamed Mounir, Ragaa Hussein, Seif Abdelrahman, Hanan, Layla Hamadah, Magda El-Khatib, Ragaa Al-Gidawy. Screenplay: Youssef Chahine. Cinematograpby: Mohsen Nasr. Art direction: Gabriel Karraze. Film editing: Rashida Abdel Salam. Music: Gamal Salamah.
An Egyptian Story is the middle film of Youssef Chahine's autobiographical "Alexandria trilogy," and it may be the most accessible to people not familiar with his work. Perhaps inspired by Bob Fosse's All That Jazz (1979), it centers on the memories and fantasies of a film director, Yehia Choukry Mourad (Nour El-Sherif), who is Chahine's alter ego, as he undergoes open heart surgery. Some of the action takes place in a set designed to resemble Yehia's chest cavity, where a trial takes place. The defendant is Yehia's "inner child," played by young Oussama Nadir, who is on trial for killing the mature Yehia -- though he isn't really dead yet. Key events of Yehia's life take place in flashbacks that are sometimes realistic, sometimes surreal. In the first film of the trilogy, Alexandria ... Why? (1979), Yehia was played by Mohsen Mohieddin, who appears in this film as Yehia as a young man. In the third film, Alexandria Again and Forever (1990), Chahine himself takes the role as the aging Yehia. Because of the trial setting, the narrative of An Egyptian Story is more linear than the first and third stories in the trilogy, and might be the one to watch if you're just getting started with Chahine's work or if, like me, you're not well versed in the history of Egypt in the 20th century that serves as the backdrop of Yehia's story. Chahine doesn't spare himself in any of the films, revealing much about his ego and ambition, his neglect of his family, and even hinting rather broadly at his bisexuality. Those more familiar with his work may find An Egyptian Story a little less colorful and creative than the others, but it's still a remarkable movie.

PLEASE STOP; This Family Desperately Needs Your Help!
The Alanqar family consists of Raed (47) and his wife Amani (39), and their children Rasha (22), Rana (21), Monir (19), Mohamed (16) and Sham (4).
They have been displaced, lost all sources of income, and are suffering in horrible conditions. Their house was destroyed, and so was the university where Monir was studying.
They now struggle to get basic resources and escape the constant bombings.
In order for them to eventually evacuate, this family is trying to raise €35,000. So far, they've only raised €2,830 and their last donation was 22 hours ago.
Please help them however you can; donate if you're able and share their campaign. Everything helps.

A father's plea for peace for his children and his sick wife
Imagine a world where instead of raindrops falling from the sky, bombs rain down, and instead of soothing lullabies, the sound of warplanes fills the air. This is the harsh reality that my children, Mounir (6 years old) and Siraj (4 years old), and my wife, who is suffering from cancer, live in. We live in Gaza, a place where hope seems to be fading.
I am Mohammed, Rawaa’s husband, and I feel the heavy burden of ensuring a better future for them.
The war took my job, our home, the very essence of our existence. We are now living in makeshift tents, sharing what little we have in this besieged land. However, in the midst of all this devastation, my wife's illness bothers me greatly because there is no treatment for it.
Friends in Egypt have offered us a chance to escape this nightmare, but the path to safety is blocked by a daunting barrier: the border crossing demands $5,000 for each life to pass through.
I plead with you, don't let my children become victims of war.
Your contribution, no matter how small, could be the key to unlocking a future free from fear and filled with opportunities. Your assistance could mean the difference between life and death for my family. With your help, we can secure safe passage out of Gaza and begin the journey toward a better future. A future where peace and prosperity prevail.
Thanks for your support, and I'm grateful for any help you can give me during this difficult time.

Palestine is a geographically significant region with great historical and religious importance, located in the heart of the Middle East.
It stretches along the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by Lebanon and Syria to the north, Jordan to the east, and Egypt to the south. Among its most notable cities is Jerusalem, a city sacred to Muslims, Christians, and Jews, housing landmarks such as Al-Aqsa Mosque, Dome of the Rock, and Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Palestine boasts a rich history spanning thousands of years, having witnessed the rise of numerous civilizations like the Canaanites and Phoenicians. In modern times, it endured British occupation in the early 20th century, followed by Israeli occupation since 1948, leading to the displacement of millions of Palestinians and the intensification of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Despite ongoing challenges, Palestine maintains its cultural and historical identity 🌍. It is renowned for its natural diversity, including plains, mountains, and valleys 🌿⛰️. Most importantly, its resilient people continue to strive for freedom and justice ✊🇵🇸.
Our Story: A Family's Journey Through War
My name is Mounir, and I am part of a family of seven.
We used to live a simple life in Gaza, before the war changed everything. My father, Raed (47), my mother, Amani (39), my older sisters, Rasha (22), who is married, and Rana (21), who is also married, my brother Mohamed (16), and my little sister Sham (4), we all dreamed of a safe and stable life.
When the war began, we were forced to leave our home due to heavy shelling nearby. We took shelter in the shop that was our only source of income— a sanitary supplies shop where my father, brother, and I worked. We could only stay one night before leaflets were dropped from airplanes ordering a full evacuation of the area.
We had no choice but to move to Al-Shifa Medical Complex, where we lived in a tent for a week. Then, another evacuation order came, and we were told to head south of Gaza.
With no relatives to take us in, we ended up in an unfinished school building in the central area. The 90 days we spent there were the hardest of our lives— no water, no food, and nothing fit for human life. We had to walk more than 1.5 kilometers just to buy a small amount of food to keep us alive. After this long ordeal, another evacuation order came, but before we could leave, the school was bombed. It was terrifying— we narrowly escaped death, leaving everything behind.
We fled to Rafah, a place that seemed safer at first, but there too, we found no shelter. We had to live in a tent, in the freezing winter cold. We had no way to keep warm, and we nearly froze to death.
My mother, who suffers from chronic asthma, was in a dire situation because we couldn’t find her medications. She ran out of the medicine that helps her breathe, and she started having painful attacks. The smoke from the fire we used for cooking and the terrible smell from the lack of sanitation in the school made her condition worse.
My little sister Sham is also suffering from skin rashes due to the unsanitary conditions, and she has diarrhea and vomiting because the drinking water is contaminated. We are living in inhumane conditions, and we don’t even have the clothes we need to survive the coming winter.
My brother Mohamed and I carry a heavy burden— we fetch water from faraway places, and we search for food to ease our hunger. My married sisters and their small children are also in desperate need of baby formula, clothes, and diapers. Even the food that reaches us in the school from charity kitchens is barely edible due to poor cooking.
This is our life… fear, hunger, cold, and bombing.
We live in constant terror and uncertainty.
We desperately need your help and support— any donation can help save our lives and ease our suffering.

Bilmiyorum sizlerde sever misiniz. Sadece paylaşmak istedim. Aslında ben burada hep dinlediğim müzikleri, izlediğim filmleri, okuduğum kitapları falan paylaşmak isterim ama buna her zaman imkan olmuyor ne yazık ki... Kötülerle kötülüklerle mücadele etmekten başımızı kaldırıp, güzel bir şeyler bile paylaşamıyoruz...
