I decided to go ahead and color my other two Max outfits from this post. Here are Cowboy Max and Mad Scientist Max! He's an adorable little monster, isn't he?
I also added the background pattern to Schoolgirl Max, thereby enhancing his gap moe appeal by a full 4%. You know, in case anyone needed that.
#sam and max#freelance police#doodles#my art#I'm not sure how I ought to tag sam and/or max individually when their names are both in the title#kinda throws a wrench into the usual tagging system huh 😐

Scrolling my twitter FYP against my better judgement and encountering "women don't like f/f because they're self-loathing misogynists and only like m/m because they're fetishists and objectifiers" and "drop your favorite tomboys/butches in the thread! (Thread has the same 5 tomboy/butch characters that surface in every one of these threads and then 30 other big titty anime girls who are not tomboys and/or butch by any stretch of the imagination)" in quick succession felt like a little like the guy who thought someone was breaking into his house and leaving post-its everywhere discovering he had a gas leak and was doing it himself
If you wonder I keep filling the house with m/m post-its, it's because there's a gas leak and it's "female characters designed around/defined by a time-tested and committee-approved feminine tropes"
"but you'll fixate one cardboard-ass background boy and give him imaginary depth why can't you do that for a boring background female character--" because the boy's elevator pitch one-note characteristic is something I align with and enjoy (loser, goofy, comedy relief, gross, obnoxious, weird, autistic) and I promise if you made that same boy a girl and changed nothing else I would make her my whole personality for literal fucking years.
Idk like it's true I gravitate to shitty obnoxious boys in fiction but if that's a problem for you have you considered maybe the solution is more shitty obnoxious girls in fiction and not more of the same girls that I don't really enjoy, or telling me to stop liking shitty obnoxious boys?
I do feel a little insane sometimes to see femininity constantly conflated with womanhood. "Soup, why don't you, a gnc woman, gravitate to more super sexy mommy doms or cutesy moe schoolgirls or walking talking fashion dolls do you just hate women?" like idk Jan I'll give you three guesses.
#this post is about buttercup rainbow dash amethyst peridot seo kashima queen barb izutsumi spinelli there are more. there are more.#more of them please. please.#rude girls not to be conflated with mean girls#girls who are 'boyish'#only because we've yet to de-gender the concept#gendering shit is a scam yall im so sick of it#let me be#when steven universe was at its peak i was on a strict f/f diet for literal YEARS i wonder why that was#i wonder#toph!!! toph my beloved how could i forget you#Harrow AND gideon AND ianthe like!!!! thank you ms muir

This took a while to win me over, but it did, and I'm glad it did, although it leaves me in an odd position going forward.
Some context: some friends and I are doing a monthly anime groupwatch starting in November, and since it's almost November I figured I'd get a head start on Tamayura, since the tentative plan is to do both this OVA and both seasons of the TV show and maybe the presumably direct-to-bluray movies as well. That's a fair amount of stuff, so I wanted to get an early start.
As for Tamayura itself, it follows the shy schoolgirl Potte and explores her love of photography. Potte, in particular, is interested in the phenomenon of what are often called ghost orbs over here in the states. She associates them with photos of her late father, thus giving her a personal connection to the phenomenon (which is, evidently, called tamayura in Japanese and is thus also the namesake of this series), and thus giving the show some emotional stakes. (The fact that backscatter artifacts as they're more properly known are a well-explained phenomenon doesn't seem to enter into the equation here. I could be a dick and nitpick this, but that seems like not taking the show on its own terms, and I don't like being that person.)
More generally, she is fascinated with the mysterious nature of photography itself, and this is what propels our plot, such as it is, forward. She spends most of these OVA episodes at least tangentially attempting to find the location where she took a picture of her dad several years back. The ephemerality of the tamayura orbs, and thus the ephemerality of things in general, is a factor here as well. The cycle the series focuses on is thus; experiences become memories, memories can be preserved by pictures, and pictures can in turn drive new experiences, such as our main character group venturing to a particularly scenic hill in the last episode of this OVA. It's a simple thesis, and hardly one unique to this series, but it works well enough, and Tamayura plays it pretty effectively.
On a craft level, it's fitting that a show about photography was able to win me over mostly off the strength of its environments. We have a setting on the border of the suburban and rural here, and the townscape and nature alike are rendered with a grounded timbre that nonetheless imparts them with a little bit of sparkle. If you're the kind of person who gets easily bored by shows like this in which "nothing happens" and much of the focus is on the environment, Tamayura is unlikely to win you over and I can imagine such people finding the show dull. Still, for what it's going for, I think it scores high in these areas.
The character art is pretty nice as well. Done in a very straightforward moe` style, with big eyes and round faces, the show often wobbles its characters around in lightly amusing ways when something funny is happening. It's worth mentioning though that the humor is probably Tamayura's weakest point, most of it is not so much bad as it is simply kind of basic, but there are a couple of moments that *really* don't work and veer close enough to ecchi humor to feel wildly out of place with the rest of the work. Characters are a mixed bag too. Thankfully, Potte herself is great, but some of her friends have very one-note personalities (at least here in the OVA), and one in particular, Norie, is just kind of annoying in a way that actively clashes with the rest of the series. (Of course, I also like some characters a lot, including Potte herself as mentioned, Potte's grandma, and Maon, who mostly communicates by whistling. Give me some context for why the heck she does *that.* There's an interesting story there, I'm sure.)
In any case, these criticisms aside, my biggest question about Tamayura on the whole is what exactly they're going to do for stories as I move into watching the TV series. Potte's quest to find the place she took her father's photograph ends with the end of this OVA, and it's a nice enough ending, a real full-circle moment, that I struggle to think of how we're going to wring 24 episodes out of this. I suppose I'll find out in the coming days.

Fun Fact About Sekizan !
The lil keychain that Sekizan has on his phone exists in real life! I honestly thought it was some fictional mascot character that Amase-sensei made up but nope. its real! They don't have a specific name but they're usually called ermine keychains
You can just search up オコジョ キーホルダー (okojo keyholder) or オコジョ お土産 (okojo omamori/souvenir) if you wanna google it. Okojo just means ermine.
For the history on them, they're a sort of a pop culture/nostalgia item for schoolgirls in the 90s-00s. You usually see them at souvenir shops (especially ones around temples). The different colors symbolize different wishes or luck that you want.
In the anime only, the ermine keychain doesn't have a specific color. The orb itself is pink but there is no corresponding pink fur which it is supposed to have. Just by the fur color, white would mean the keychain is for happiness. If we are considering the pink orb, it would relate to some kind of love/falling in love charm...
Anyways.
In the manga (the beginning of chapter 74), you can see the charm has dark-colored fur. While the monochrome of the manga doesn't explicitly imply that it is a certain color, it IS a very dark tone. Some of the colors it could be are purple, dark blue, grey, black, or green.
Purple is for Victory
Dark Blue is for Self Confidence and Courage
Grey is for Strong Luck (as in alotta luck)
Black is for Sucess
Green is for Health
I just noticed that the orb on his' is a lighter color than the fur...meaning its most likely the grey one. BUT!
Honestly, any of these could work for him because they all somehow relate to rugby. I'd like to think his mom bought one for him...hehe.
Here's the blog that I got a lot of my information from! But take all of this information with a grain of salt because I am not Japanese and am using solely this one blog as the source of my information!!
Here's also the yahoo shopping site I got the image from.
Just a to ramble a bit but its sooooooooo cute that he has that...bc its something mainly (and maybe only) school GIRLS have...ooogguhghhhhhhhhhhh he's adorable. the gap moe factor is INSANE. He's this big guy but he has a flip phone with a lil ermine keychain that usually girls have UUHRGGGGHHHHHHHH MY PRINCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I watched "Bullet Train" (A while ago but that's not important)
Since it's been a while since the movie came out I feel pretty safe but never the less Spoilers!
If I had to describe "Bullet Train" I'd call it Hollywood's greatest attempt at emulating less conventional methods of storytelling. With the original text being written by Kōtarō Isaka as a novel (and that end, I have no idea what liberties were taken with its production, and adaptation compared to the original story) and because of that fact it may be cringe to say that on my first viewing, I thought the film felt like something that would do well as a single season 12 episode cult classic anime from the mid-nineties to early two-thousands. Everything from the film's setting to the characters screams that sort of slightly absurdist charm that you'd usually see from that era of anime and manga. A collection of assassins board a bullet train in Japan for a myriad of different yet interconnected reasons strung along by a well-foreshadowed central antagonist and a mysterious yet charismatic dark horse, all taking place in a black humor thriller.
Yuichi Kimura is a father out for the blood of the person that put his son on life support struggling with his position as a father demands of him. Not knowing that his decision had left him as a pawn in a dangerous game he does not completely understand.
Ladybug (which is what I will forever refer to this character archetype as) is a charismatic if oafish thief who seems to live in a state of perpetual bad luck however never fatally succumbing to it. returns to work after a stent away from attempting to reevaluate his choices and steer himself away from some of the more unsavory aspects of his profession and more often than not failing miserably at it.
Lemon/Tangerine, a dynamic duo of hitmen who share a familial bond that goes deeper than blood. The former of the two possessing a humorous yet undeniably advantageous character quirk iconic of the film. While the latter becomes an instant fan favorite due to his relatable yet enviable personality. Both of which serve as the poster children for the film.
The Wolf, a self-made legend of the Mexican cartel who shot up the ranks of his organization with his charisma, intellect, and brutality finds himself in Japan to find the murderer of not only his beloved but his partners in crime. An impressive back story for someone who dies within ten minutes of being introduced.
Hiroyuki Sanada, a disgraced former yakuza and the father of one of the other characters also comes to find the would be assassin of his grandson only to be presented the chance to settle a grudge thats haunted him for the better part of his life.
Last but not least The Prince, the dark horse of the film whose motivations and origins tantalize the viewers the entire runtime. The character you love to hate and a secondary antagonist who far outshines the main one. My hat goes off to Joey King for her performance from this absolute menace The Prince is one of my favorite aspects of the film, the fact that the vast majority of situations she's faced with go her way which helps her be more hatable yet interesting as a character. I'm especially fond of her aesthetic as a character she's not a traditional fem fatal but she still leverages her femininity to achieve her goals falling into that gap-moe of having this adolescent schoolgirl design yet being this conniving machiavellian character.
Now after hearing that line up tell me this doesn't sound like an instant cult hit of a dark comedy. Overall I'm quite fond of the film and if you haven't seen it and didn't heed my warning at the top please watch it its quite the treat. for those who have watched the film and just wanted to read this for yucks, I suggest you read the source material Kōtarō Isaka's Maria Beetle if you can find it.

I blame Kyoto animation for the kyaa 5/6 giant eyes influence . Even lot of Yuri have this childish character design that's why I don't even read them .
kyoani certainly has the reputation of churning out moe shit and it's definitely a huge offender but there's a bigger shadow looming under the waters here i think. i'm pretty sure the designs with huge eyes and child-like proportions started off in shoujo and particularly in magical girl because all heroines there are young girls obviously, with most mahou shoujo authors being women and the stuff itself being targeted towards little girls, but then it attracted a male audience and the genre gradually shifted to cater to said adult male audience, with weird perverts authoring the product itself, and the general design was exported to other genres that attract weird perverts. and now it's everywhere and inescapable. this is also why yuri is full of that shit too (most schoolgirl yuri is written by men for men). it's not only kyoani unfortunately because if it were it would be easy to avoid, but the quality of animation has decreased dramatically in the last ~6 or so years because it seems that it became easier to mass produce so the industry is just oversaturated with generic mediocre garbage that somehow reaches its audience nevertheless
#that's from a superficial observation btw when gk3 was coming out i was watching it on tv and immediately b4 it aired#there was some idol shit on which was genuinely brain-numbing. & during gk4 which i dropped there was some isekai shit that was equally bad#but they legit looked the same lol focused on little girls with giant eyes n screechy voices colors oversaturated animation flat#and yet someone is consooming that garbage 🤨#anon

Ossan no pantsu EP 2
Disclaimer: I had already watched this drama with subs that were mostly machine translated, so this is less of a first time reaction and more of an "i finally have the whole picture now". This will contain spoilers, so be warned!
First of all: thank you to @isaksbestpillow for continuing to provide us with excellent subs to this drama!!
Quotes from the episode (translation by isaksbestpillow)
Makoto obtained empathy (Pop-up making reference to the update plan in episode 1: Makoto doesn't scold his subordinate for once)
Daichi-kun, I should understand this as well (Makoto talks about his daughter's fan merch)
My jumbled thoughts
I love the little update commentary pop-ups. It is a nice visual that not all learning (or in Makoto's case, an update to the current times and values) is linear.
MOE IS THE BEST!! I love the big difference between her "outside" persona who is put together and wears tasteful clothing, while at the house she is always in loungewear and has her hair up with a hairband. Also i love her passion for doujinshi and fandom (No, Makoto, it is not "just" plagiarism)
Mika is so right!! Her daughter is happily screaming into her pillows bc of her limited edition manga standee while she cuts out her bias of the idol group she stans. (also Mika is truly the glue of this household, and she is always there for everyone - except when she is doing fangirl activities)
Haranishi is such a lovely guy, good for him that he eats a lot when Makoto is paying! Makoto is lucky he is surrounded by such thoughtful people (his wife, Daichi, Haranishi, even his daughter and son). Also, B-suke-kun sure is a name for a bra...
There is such a generational gap between Makoto and his subordinates in what they expect from work. I also want to go home at the end of the day even if i am passionate about my work.
Carlos the dog eating/doing things as a transition between scenes is so cute!!!
If i am honest Kakeru is my favourite character. He is a teenager who is figuring himself out, and does it by being honest with himself.
Makoto going to the convention instead of Moe and telling her: How hard could it be, I work in sales? And then he has to be saved by an accountant dressed as a schoolgirl, a goth turned hunk (I love Apple-san's theme music), some anime girls and his gay acquaintance who is as confused about fandom and yaoi as he is.
Just another day in the Okita household.
Conclusion
I love this show and this episode is the one where Moe and her fandom work really shine. Also, again, it showcases that Makoto really wants to help his family and with the right push, he actually can (even though looking at your daughter's 18+ doujinshi really is a no-go).
#ossan no pantsu#oppan#would love to read other people's thoughts on this series!!#oppan spoilers#ossan no pantsu ga nandatte ii janai ka
