I Need To Discuss That Snow White Trailer, Don't I?
BW Media Spotlight is running against a deadline, so I guess I Need To Discuss That Snow White Trailer, Don't I?
Or maybe I don’t. It’s only a teaser, and I’ve given up assessing teasers because they usually tell nothing. Maybe I don’t have to give this desecration of Walt’s legacy the time of day. Half the internet has probably already said everything that’s need to be said, surely. I have just under two hours to get a post out, I didn’t sleep well last night, and this movie may be the biggest example of…

I personally see the new Haunted Mansion movie as leagues better than the 2003 version and thus wouldn’t lump them together in any comparison...but regardless, I actually think this is kind of a false equivalency.
Yes, the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean are both very popular Disney theme park rides that were turned into films. But in truth, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was actually much less committed to that “bit” from the get-go.
It is a pirate movie, yes -- but really, it has f***-all to do with the ride that inspired it. Prior to the parks going back and adding more movie iconography to the ride to better tie the two properties together, the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and films were completely different in plot, characters, and tone. The original ride was set up with we the riders seeing the skeletons of pirates surrounded by gold they can’t spend or enjoy, before we go back in time to the Golden Age of Piracy and see pirates acting out and being terrible and ending up locked up, imprisoned, and trapped in a city that’s about to burn to the ground and get blown up and that we the riders only just barely escape. There really wasn’t that much that was glamorous about piracy, on the original ride. We don’t see any characters we really want to follow or aspire to be like. But Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was really more a tribute to the old-fashioned, swashbuckling pirate movies of days past with elements of the Disney ride thrown in for spice, such as the iconic song and nods to jokes like the skeleton drinking a whole bottle of wine or the dog holding a ring of keys. It was a lot more “adult,” humor, gore, and tone-wise, than the ride. It was much more quirky and off-beat in its comedy than the ride. It was much less moralizing than the original ride -- au contraire, it sympathizes with most of its pirate characters, which the original ride never did. And I love the movie for it! I love that it did its own thing so well to the point that you can’t accuse it of disrespecting the original ride! If anything, it ended up making the ride better in a lot of ways, by giving a different slant on the legacy of the pirate mythos based on how we as a society and our views of pirates and heroes and villains overall have changed. It shows pirates that are dangerous and filthy and lawless, but it also makes them largely likeable and sympathetic.
In the 2003 Haunted Mansion film’s case, it -- like Curse of the Black Pearl -- kind of does its own thing with its own tone, characters, and story while only referencing elements of the original ride here and there...but it also never set out to be a PG-13 tribute to classic horror or anything. Instead it seems like the filmmakers honestly kind of wanted it to be like one of those 90′s movies like Hook or The Santa Clause where you have a workaholic dad who gets swept up in this vaguely magical/otherworldly kind of experience with his family and has to better learn to appreciate the love around him through his experience. I personally don’t like that approach at all, to the point that I do think it disrespected the original ride -- but I know other people do. But The Haunted Mansion (2003) certainly didn’t do as well with audiences or at the box office with that approach so divorced from its subject matter as CoBP did.
Looking at the new Haunted Mansion movie from earlier this year, however...it wasn’t trying to do its own thing, the way the 2003 film or CoBP did. It was clearly intended to be a loving homage and tribute to Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride. Yes, it features new characters, and yes, it has some new interpretations of some of the Mansion ride’s current cast like the Hatbox Ghost, Constance Hatchaway, Master Gracey, and Madame Leota -- but the movie embraced the Gothic, beautiful, creepy, darkly comedic, but still family-friendly tone of the original ride INFINITELY more than either of the other two films discussed previously did their respective rides. The new Haunted Mansion doesn’t shy away from the themes of death, grief, loss, and pain -- it’s the core focus of the plot and just about all of the major characters’ story arcs. It doesn’t make the Mansion a place these ghosts wouldn’t want to stay in, or make it a place you yourself wouldn’t want to explore. The original Haunted Mansion, as depicted by Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s theme park rides, is a place where 999 happy haunts CHOSE to rest in, and the movie embraces that. (Contrasted to the 2003 film where all the ghosts are happy to leave it at the end and never return, leaving it an Un-haunted Mansion, sorry, I’ll always be salty about that.)
Haunted Mansion (2023) wasn’t trying to be like Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl -- if it was, I daresay we would’ve ended up with a more adult-geared horror film a la Crimson Peak. And while I can totally understand wanting that movie, I personally really appreciate the approach that respected what people originally loved about the ride. Because unlike with the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, I don’t think the Haunted Mansion ride needed as much retrospection through a modern lens. Its themes of finding humor in death and finding joy in what should be pain and sadness are timeless -- no more “adult,” cheeky, clever, nuanced spin was needed. And just because the filmmakers understood that doesn’t mean that their film “wasn’t committed to the bit.” They just chose to be more committed to the ride’s original themes and tone than to your idea of what a haunted house movie should be like.
#oh boy here i go#opinion#analysis#disney parks#disney#haunted mansion (2023)#haunted mansion#the haunted mansion (2003)#pirates of the caribbean#movies#disneyland#walt disney world#honestly I'd say the better comparison would be jungle cruise VS pirates of the caribbean#jungle cruise likewise just did its own thing only referencing the ride here and there and tried to market itself to an older audience#and also did some more modern twists on the ride that were sorely needed with our changing times#in potc's case it was the more morally gray world view that was more sympathetic to the pirates' position#in jungle cruise's it was making a 'lost world'-themed period piece that didn't play into dated racist and sexist stereotypes#as for country bear jamboree there is no comparison -- it was even more of a painful attempted-cash-grab than hm 2003 was in my opinion :I

"Broadway Diva Tournament runner-up, Bernadette Peters is THE living Diva of movie and stage musicals. At three years old, I saw this little redheaded bitch of a stepmother in Cinderella and decided, yeah, that's the blueprint. And it was. I proceeded to fall in love with Broadway Divas in movie musicals for the next few decades. She made me a lesbian. Seventy-six years old and still performing sold-out concerts in gorgeous Bob Mackie gowns with her titties on display. Legend." - @droughtofapathy
Julie Andrews (1935- ): Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins (1964) | Maria in The Sound of Music (1965) | Victoria Grant in Victor/Victoria (1982) | Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) Additional musical/singing roles include: Cinderella (1957), Star! (1968), Darling Lili (1970),
"The QUEEN of the movie musical. Started in so many long lasting favorites. Dressed in drag in Victor/Victoria, thanked the casting director of My Fair Lady in her Oscar Acceptance speech for snubbing her for the role so that she could win an Oscar instead. The voice of so many people’s childhoods and genuinely such an amazing person. Look up the story about her Tony nomination!" - @kingscatt

"The woman so talented Walt Disney was willing to wait. Saying Julie Andrews is immensely talented is about as non-controversial as it gets, but the level of talent she possesses is almost too much to process. Seriously, the way she effortlessly blends singing, dancing, and acting to create nuances in her performances is beyond the beyond. It’s cliche, but she really is practically perfect in every way." - anonymous

Favorite Disney Parks Attraction Showdown: Round 7/FINALS
Videos and propaganda under the cut!
Haunted Mansion: Disneyland, WDW Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland
Propaganda:
"The ride system was perfected by Bob Gurr, gay icon. Seriously, any Disney gays and Haunted Mansion gays, thank gay icon, Bob Gurr for giving us an iconic ride vehicle and system. The whole ride is iconic. It inspired modern day horror tropes, gives goth kids a cool ride to enjoy as they pretend not to enjoy their trip with family when they actually do, has that really interesting spider story in the ballroom scene, X Atencio giving us an iconic song, story, script, and voice acting in the Lemme Outta Here ghost and the break down spiel, THE FREAKING STRETCHING ROOM, THE WALLPAPER!!!!!! Hatbox Ghost being an urban legend, with his existence being argued and questioned for years until we finally got a blurry picture confirmation and him coming back years later, ICONIC! Madame Leota and Little Leota! The hitchhiking ghosts!!! GHOST HOST!!!! The freaking conveyor belt at the end of the attraction that you step off to and if your not careful, it's easy to almost fall, accidentally giving one last scare before you leave the ride and makes you realize how clumsy you are? Iconic. "
"This is a ride that I was absolutely terrified of when I was a little kid. I actually have photographic evidence of this (ask for it if you'd like). But, my goodness, this rough start only made me love it all the more as I grew up. This is such a fun and goofy ride despite the morbid theme and occasional eerie bits! It's a duality. The ghosts have such a personality and the Ghost Host is such a charming guide (and I find the fact that he abandons you to go join the swinging wake hilarious, especially because you wander into the attic with Constance when unguided). It's just such a well-crafted ride! There's so much to see and I never get tired of it. The Doombuggy itself is an ingenious way to move people through the ride with such a distinctive design. The Ghost Host raising and lowering the lap bar for you is neat (fun fact, The Phantom in Phantom Manor is a terrible host and doesn't do this for you, probably because he's too busy planning your death. Asshole.). The effects in the ride are so cool and hold up, especially the Pepper's Ghosts effect. The rooms are distinct and eccentric. The Grim Grinning Ghosts song is absolutely delightful, and it's such a nice touch that you can distinguish the vocals of different ghosts you see in the graveyard. I should also just give a shout-out to the soundtrack for the ride as a whole, which wonderfully warps the Grim Grinning Ghosts theme to match the scene you're in. The ride also does such a good job of plunging you straight into the experience with facade of the mansion (I adore the look of the conservatory) and the queue. The tombstones are so funny and I really appreciate the interactive elements they added in the exterior section. And then you get inside the mansion, hear the Ghost Host's narration, and get into the Stretching Room. How can I describe that room other than frightfully fun? So, why Walt Disney World instead of Disneyland? I prefer experiencing the changing portraits on the ride rather than in the queue. I love the library as the setting for the busts that watch you. The music room with the ghost you can only see in shadow playing a version of Grim Grinning Ghosts is captivating. And, my goodness, the staircase room takes my breath away and I love watching the ghostly footsteps on the stairs. It's even going to have the Hatbox Ghost soon (I am not weighing in on the discourse over the potential location for him).
"I love it. I love ghosties. I love the effects. I love women who murder their husbands. I love the jaunty tunes. I love having to stop for 4 minutes not even partway into the ride and having to watch the same things going on for ages. I love a good ghoul ride, man "
"Epic conveyer belt keeps the line moving (though that won't always stop the line from being long)."
youtube
Tower of Terror: WDW Hollywood Studios, Paris Walt Disney Studios Park, California Adventure (2004-2017), Tokyo DisneySea
Propaganda:
"you forget how scary it is until you watch the preshow. and then you forget how fun it is until you ride the ride. 10/10 would recommend went on it with my friends twice last time we went."
"WE LOVE HORROR MEDIA REPRESENTATION!!! ONLY PUSSIES TAKE THE STAIRS"
"This ride made me absolutely terrified of elevators for a bit. xD Anyway, the bellhop cast members are hilarious. The hotel that is covered in cobwebs and was clearly abandoned in a rush after a terrible event is so cool. The Rod Sterling Twilight Zone intro is iconic. The basement is an interesting setting for the final part of the queue. The generators, lights, and floor indicator malfunctioning helps build your anticipation. The friggin elevator moving into the hallway and into a new shaft when the electrical ghosts make their appearance and you enter the Twilight Zone is so impressive. The dropping and rising of the elevator is such fun and I love the randomized events they added. I have to say, though, that ventriloquist dummy in the unloading room still makes me uncomfortable."
"Who doesn't love a creepy dark drop narrated by the man, the myth, the legend Rod Serling himself?"

Elvis being sad for whatever reason and reader curls up on the couch with him and tel hey watch Disney movies together to help him feel better
the happiest place on earth is here with you
summary: after a particularly rough day on set, elvis takes it upon himself to rent an entire movie theater out to watch disney movies with you. fandom: elvis presley | elvis ( 2022 ) | austin butler rating: t for a might bit of swearing i suppose pairing: elvis presley x female reader word count: 988 warnings: mention of stress. mention of sadness. elvis being extra. mention of walt disney. author’s note: happy 88th birthday to our favorite man, y'all! first off thank you for the request anon and thank you for making it before his birthday so i could have a little fluff piece to post vs any smut or grand epics i've got up my sleeves. y'all might have to suspend your disbelief a little since film and movie houses did things a certain way but i needed something that wasn't me attempting- and likely fumbling- a modern elvis take. ( seriously @headfullofpresley did some flawless work on that front so go check that out ) but while all the tech was available for him to perhaps have the movies on tape, he would have had to have something to tape it from and if i do remember right when it comes to disney and their vaults and every other thing that is a harder ask than you think. also put this as 60s elvis though trust me y'all it was hard to resist doing big daddy or even widdle 50s baby elvis. choose austin or real elvis for this i am not picky, i truly just wanted to use the robe gif while i am also in a robe writing this.
You are used to Elvis and how sometimes he can get in a mood, after all, you've been with him through a surprising amount of issues that instead of making the two of you pull apart had kept you together. Pulled you closer together, even, and yet sometimes he had a way of surprising you, a way of doing something so off the wall and minorly bonkers that you wonder just what in the hell had gotten into him. This was one of those times. It's not that he hasn't done it before, hasn't rented out a whole theater so the two of you and the Memphis Mafia could just enjoy some pictures all without having to be interrupted by fans that Elvis adores but can also be a bit- a lot- much.
It's more the timing that gets to you, since there was about as much of a lead up or a warning as a sudden thunderstorm in the South. Hell, even the time he chose to do it was a new one since normally it would be a situation that only happens in the daytime. Still, you're not complaining, it's sometimes incredibly tricky to actually find the time to enjoy the company of your boyfriend especially when he's busy filming. If he wants to pick you up in one of his cars and take you to a movie theater well you'll allow it, you'll take it.
Entering the actual theater, you're struck by the fact that there is the barest of staff and only Sonny for a bodyguard there. This was yet again a shift from the normal way he would go about this sort of thing but it was fine, in fact it was a little better than fine you thought as you allowed Elvis to pull you closer to him as he grabbed popcorn for the two of you and some Pepsis among other things.
The auditorium where you and Elvis would be watching whatever planned movie or movies he wanted to is already a little dark but you see what looks like a small little picnic set out on the ground complete with enough pillows to rival even the comfiest couch or bed in Graceland or in California. You can't help but turn to him before even starting to sit down. "Alright, E, what's this about?"
Elvis for his part instantly deflates at the question, it was easy to tell you everything was fine and act his normal way when he doesn't want to worry you. When he didn't want to worry you until you had both settled down and were relaxing. He should have remembered you know him as well as anyone ever has or probably will. His answer comes after a long sigh.
"Had- It was a rough day on set, baby. Stunts were awful, kept messin' up my damn lines, and I jus'- wanna jus' curl up wit' my baby, my darlin' and forget all of it happened. Wanna relax here wit' ya and watch some silly fun movies. Got 'em to find some real old ones, asked Mr. Disney himself for 'em."
Your eyes widen at the last statement, momentarily forgetting that yes, your boyfriend is just that famous that he can casually ask Walt Disney for film reels of his films. A beat passes before you allow yourself to smile gently at Elvis, taking the drinks and popcorn before motioning for him to sit down. "You first then. My head in your lap for the first picture, and then your head in mine until we fall asleep, hm?"
At your response you see Elvis's face light up like a young boy on Christmas or on his birthday. It's as if just the mere idea of what you propose has him giddy and releasing all the tension that was inside of him from the day's events. This is what you loved about Elvis- how he'll help everyone he can and try and make them feel alright and happy to the point of sometimes hurting himself mentally and physically. But when you do it for him? Oh, it's like you've done him the greatest honor on the planet. He doesn't waste a minute settling down on the ground, his back leaning up against the pillows as he lets out a long groan at finally being able to just sit and relax. A smile soft and gentle graces your features as you hand him back the drinks and popcorn and settle down next to him, laying down so that your head rests comfortably in his lap.
"Tell me you've got Mary Poppins first, I've wanted to see that again so badly." You ask as his hand moved to try and fiddle with your hair, almost as if to calm him more than just your presence did.
His blue eyes twinkle when you ask the question full of mirth and sneakiness that have you mildly concerned for just a brief moment before he answers. "Ya jus' gonna have to watch and find out, aren't ya?"
Your eyes narrow before you pull him down to your face for a soft kiss. "I guess I am, Mr. Presley. Hopefully you picked good ones or I'm gonna be the one leaving sad and stressed out."
His laugh- the laugh he's needed to have all day rings out as the movie starts to play. "Trust me baby, you'll be fine. Picked our favorites, not just mine."
Mary Poppins was the third picture and while you both did try and stay awake, truly you did, you both found yourself drifting off to the song Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious as you stroked Elvis's hair in between bites of the little picnic he had made. The theater let you both stay, sending home their workers after they had cleaned up the front. After all, who was going to wake up the Elvis Presley and his girlfriend when they looked that peaceful together?
taglist: @eliseinmemphis, @ab4eva, @blurredcolour, @aconflagrationofmyown and @butlersxbirdy, @lindszeppelin, @powerofelvis @floralcyanide @steph-speaks @mooodyblue swear to god i will actually set up a tag list form for everyone to fill out so i know who to do what to. i just hate feeling like i'm bugging y'all with the tags if you don't wanna read it.

It's time for the 5th annual Magical Trash Year-in-Review, where we take a look at trash cans at the Disney theme parks and resorts worldwide. Yes, it's a weird idea, but you are going to keep reading, right? (View previous Year-in-Reviews) Some may note that it's been a somewhat rocky year for the Mouse, but trash can activity has been strong. As we've seen in previous years, this year's additions were primarily driven by attraction openings, including Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway at Disneyland, the opening of the World of Frozen in Hong Kong, and the arrival of the Zootopia in Shanghai. Unfortunately, we also saw the fastest introduction-to-removal can timeline with the closing of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser - which had opened just a year earlier at Walt Disney World. Over the past year, MagicalTrash.com celebrated the 1,000 trash can photo milestone (only took 14 years!), while adding over 100 new entries. This was complimented by 1,600+ posts across social media networks, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Threads, and Bluesky. Posts were also added to Twitter/X, but frankly it's hard to continue supporting that platform due to its overall decline on many fronts (and I say that as someone who works in corporate social media professionally!). For 2023, Magical Trash tracked 16 substantial trash can design changes, a 14% increase vs. 2022's 14 tracked changes:
Added: 14
Historical Cans Added: 4
Updated: 0
Endangered: 0
Removed: 2
The US-based parks saw the most activity, with Disneyland Resort experiencing 6 changes, while Walt Disney World recorded 4 changes. Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris Resort both recorded 2 updates, and Shanghai Disney Resort saw 1 new addition. No notable changes were recorded for Tokyo Disney Resort or Disney Cruise Line.
Here's a detailed breakdown of updates:
ADDED New trash can designs that debuted in Disney theme parks over the past year
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway (El CapiTOON Theater) - NEW Disneyland, Mickey’s Toontown With a movie theater setting, iconography is anchored by a popcorn bucket image with large “EC” letters.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway (M.A.G.I.C.) - NEW Disneyland, Mickey’s Toontown Outside the attraction are cans associated with M.A.G.I.C. - short for the Municipal Agency of Garbage Identification and Collection. Now that's a group we want to join!
World of Frozen (Arendelle Crest) - NEW - NEW Hong Kong Disneyland, World of Frozen The official crest of Arendelle features a crocus - a multi-color flowering bulb that typically blooms in the spring - and seen throughout the Frozen franchise.
World of Frozen (Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs) - NEW Hong Kong Disneyland, World of Frozen Furthering the rugged forest theme of the family coaster, decorative Scandinavian folk art patterns are found throughout queue, with geometric shapes highlighted in red, green, and orange hues.
Zootopia - NEW Shanghai Disneyland, Zootopia A surprising entry to Shanghai's bland trash can scene, green trash cans with zebra-like stripes on the lower portion combine with a city emblem.
San Fransokyo Square - NEW Disney California Adventure, San Fransokyo Square The shoehorned Big Hero 6 retheme of DCA's Pacific Wharf gave us new cans that looked a lot like the old cans - but with bonus "SFS" branding. Ho hum.
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana - NEW Walt Disney World, Epcot, World Nature You can tell this is a modern Disney attraction because the name is an IP-laden paragraph. Lots of storytelling to explain "scenery."
Parkside Market - NEW Disneyland Resort, Downtown Disney Probably one of the more visually-stunning additions in 2023, Mickey Mouse + mid-century design. Simple concept, well-executed.
The Villas at Disneyland Hotel - NEW Disneyland Resort, The Villas at Disneyland Hotel New DVC borrows much of its design from Aulani. Not ugly, but also not magical. Were these picked out of a catalog?
Pixar Place Hotel - NEW Disneyland Resort, Pixar Place Hotel The retime of Disneyland's Paradise Pier Hotel features trash cans very similar in design to those implemented at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel. Maybe they got a 2-for-1 deal?
Disneyland Paris Reusable Tableware Cans - NEW Disneyland Paris, Adventureland France's Anti-Waste and Circular Economy Law is focused on phasing out improper disposal of waste. Food service at the French parks has implemented reusable table settings, which has impacted trash can design.
"Fantasyland 2" Backstage - NEW Disneyland Paris, Fantasyland A backstage can makes an appearance onstage as a support trash can from the “Fantasyland 2” zone, parked where everyone can see.
Pym Test Kitchen Food Waste - NEW Disney California Adventure, Avengers Campus After debuting combination food waste trash cans in Tomorrowland around 2021, Disneyland expanded the practice to the Avengers Campus at DCA.
Jollywood Nights Temporary Media Can - NEW Disney's Hollywood Studios, Grand Avenue Throw a sticker on an existing trash can and it's something new! Temporarily rethemed can at Disney's Hollywood Studios during a media event for Jollywood Nights holiday entertainment.
HISTORICAL CANS ADDED Retro trash can designs that were unearthed by new research this year, but are no longer in use
MK Main Street (1974) - HISTORICAL ADDITION Magic Kingdom, Main Street U.S.A. Early years of the Magic Kingdom featured very detailed trash cans on Main Street U.S.A, often in multiple colors. Quite a contrast from the undecorated brown cans used in the 2000s.
Farmer's Market (Late-1980s/Early-1990s) - HISTORICAL ADDITION Epcot, Future World, The Land The famed umbrella tables at The Land found their shapes emulated via the trash cans, which were primarily brown with light tan arches represented on all sides.
River Country (2010) - HISTORICAL ADDITION Walt Disney World, Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground 9 years after the water park closed, remnants of the ‘Ol’ Swimmin’ Hole’ could still be spotted at Fort Wilderness.
Mulholland Madness (2007) - HISTORICAL ADDITION Disney's California Adventure, Paradise Pier Tacky theme was on-point for DCA 1.0. This green can with road sign decal found a home in Paradise Pier.
UPDATED Existing trash can designs that have been modified or revised in the past year
None for 2023
ENDANGERED Trash can designs that still exist, but will most likely disappear in the future
None for 2023
REMOVED Trash can designs that have been eliminated from use at Disney theme parks
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (Interior) - REMOVED Walt Disney World, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser The in-wall trash cans for the 100-cabin Corellian MPO-1400 model Galactic Starcruiser were in use for just 579 days.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (Terminal) - REMOVED Walt Disney World, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser You won't be needing to dispose of your garbage before boarding the MPO-1400 Star Cruiser Halcyon, as these cans will probably have a longer life than the hotel ever had.
One massive disappointment in 2023 was Walt Disney World's opening of TRON Lightcycle / Run in the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland. Generic silver cans, thus reinforcing WDW's continual cheapening out on themed trash can design. Paul Pressler called and even he thinks you can do better.
Here at Magical Trash we celebrated our 14-year anniversary covering the world of Disney trash cans, which included keeping up with various salt shaker merchandise releases that showcase the iconic can shape. 6 new designs were released during festivals: The Dude with the Food (DCA Food & Wine 2023), Amazingly Sweet (DCA Food & Wine 2023), Groovy Garden Orange Bird (Epcot Flower & Garden 2023), Stuck on Imagination Figment (Epcot Flower & Garden 2023), Chef Mickey (Epcot Food & Wine 2023), and Spaceship Earth (Epcot Food & Wine 2023).
If you happened to be at Tokyo Disneyland, you could have picked up a mini figure version of a Tomorrowland trash can or a TDS trash can toy. In the U.S. you could pick up a shirt or water bottle with a recycling can image proclaiming that you "Love Our Disney Parks" -- Disneyland or WDW-specific versions. There was plenty of trash can auction action as well.
Thanks to everyone who contributed photos, visited MagicalTrash.com, and interacted with this weird hobby over the past year. You've put a smile on my face as we all follow this goofy passion. As it's impossible to be omnipresent at 12 theme parks and numerous resorts around the world, let us know what we've missed! Thanks for an interesting year, CanFans! - Steve Tanner, your Magical Trash host

[Huey Zoomer Anon]
For a love of…okay I ain’t saying they might been connection with lion king and Kimba in the early stages. A lot of people don’t understand many Disney animated movie stories can be in gestation period for a VERY long time. Frozen is the most infamous as I heard WALT HIMSELF worked on a extremely early version of it
Okay BP was pulling from TLK(black writers ain’t slick) but the thing is
EVERY FUCKING FEDUAL BASED SOCIETY HAVE AT LEAST ONE STORY ABOUT A USURPER AND THE RIGHTFUL HIER HAVING TO RECLAIM HIS BIRTHRIGHT
Hmmm, Horus vs Set is a good example buuut Isis did screw over Ra to force him to make Osiris the pharaoh. There are versions of Set being one of Ra’s Lieutenants so he was probably pissed with how he did have a chance to be chosen. Court politics baby!
Also about pop culture because the lines post you reblog…the writers were PULLING from classical literature. IE I heard Pokemon Mewtoo is heavily inspired by the phantom of the opera
Like one of the reasons why a lot of modern media writers don’t work because “classic literature is too bigoted and problematic!”
Aaaaw you learn that everyone is a by product of their society? Because believe me, a lot of progressives shit is going to age baaad?
But like fantasy, because their idea of fantasy =shit the boomers popularize.
They don’t want to use the Yoruba, the Mali, or other African kingdoms and empire as inspiration for their fantasy worlds
Also like someone I said if a black person don’t like MCU Wakanda, a McDonald’s version of African cultures, a coon
It like me with my black chimerians, I’m using the Massachusetts Regiment, Harriett Tubman, George Carver, Bass Reeves, Tuskegee Airmen, and even some of my family members as inspirations
But I notice it like “it wasn’t in the American pop culture or us shitty education system, than those cultures are worthless!” It VERY common among Hollywood modern writers these days
Like shit y’all only had McDonald’s growing up? Assassin Creed is pop culture (so I’m wondering how the hell shadows is revisioning history…please go away, the Templar Cross in ac lore is the fucking Mark of Cain) but it explores eras and such (while milking some when needed) that Hollywood isn’t too interested like the 9th century Baghdad or the Holy Roman Empire Witch Hunts which the 2026 games AC Hexe is seemingly going to be
Sorry…I’m just shocked about the lack of media literacy we got these days…
Also about pop culture because the lines post you reblog…the writers were PULLING from classical literature. IE I heard Pokemon Mewtoo is heavily inspired by the phantom of the opera. Like one of the reasons why a lot of modern media writers don’t work because “classic literature is too bigoted and problematic!”
Clueless that I mentioned last night was a retelling of Emma by Jane Austin, which was undoubtedly inspired by something else.
They don’t want to use the Yoruba, the Mali, or other African kingdoms and empire as inspiration for their fantasy worlds
Problem with this, as I've noted before, is that most people can't really differentiate the various ethnic and cultural groups in Africa, hell they have trouble with it in their own country, massive minefield where getting things wrong can generate way more negative press than you want
But I notice it like “it wasn’t in the American pop culture or us shitty education system, than those cultures are worthless!” It VERY common among Hollywood modern writers these days
The market creates what the buyers buy need to figure out how to get people to buy the good stuff, which can be a challenge for sure.
Especially with people that seem to want to tell us what we're supposed to enjoy. Nice to see it when that fails like mindy's sad attempt at Scooby Doo without Scooby.

When updating the animated movie schedule that I have on hand, I noticed something...
We have some mixed-media games of chicken coming. Family movie battles that may or may not happen, on the heels of the recent release date switch-ups for TRANSFORMERS ONE and THE WILD ROBOT:
The first one... Possibly... MOANA 2 vs. WICKED PART ONE - November 27, 2024. Disney and Universal head to head with musicals, one all-animated, one live-action with lots of animation in it. I say possibly, as I'm not sure what audience WICKED PART ONE is aiming for. Is this gonna be a PG-rated family film? Or an edgier PG-13 affair? I know next to nothing about the musical (apparently it's recommended as an 8+ sorta deal?), but these are both very similar in a few regards: Musical, fantasy, and because the latter is associated with the family classic THE WIZARD OF OZ - WIZARD OF OZ wouldn't have happened if not for the influence and success of Walt Disney's SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS. I still think it's worth including. I can see both doing very, very well because of how beloved the original MOANA is, and because WICKED is a big deal and OZ is always a classic. MOANA 2 came out of nowhere as a former Disney+ series-turned-movie, so that makes the face-off all the more interesting to me.
Then there's MUFASA: THE LION KING vs. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3. December 20th of this year. Disney vs. Paramount. An all-animated movie that looks very real vs. a live-action movie with animated characters in it. MUFASA has a trailer out, which makes sense given that it was originally supposed to come out in July, so it was probably finished or close to being done a while ago. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3 entered production after that, and will still make its date apparently, with no trailer out.
MUFASA is a prequel/sequel to a 5-year-old LION KING remake that grossed $1.6 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing animated film of all-time. That being said, whenever Disney does a follow-up to one of their modern remakes... It usually doesn't do anywhere *near* as well as the first... See ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS and MALEFICENT 2 as evidence of that. Both SONIC movies combined didn't make half of what LION KING '19 made, but still did very very well for what they are. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 made $405m, so I can imagine the third movie making significantly more than that. Especially since they're bringing in even more characters that fans know and love. Perhaps the family movie event of the holidays outside of MOANA 2. I don't really know who's exactly all that thrilled for MUFASA, but maybe I'll be wrong on that one. Maybe that'll be the movie to go to if the other two are sold out.
Another family movie battle is set to commence next summer. On June 13, 2025...
Pixar's delayed animated sci-fi adventure ELIO vs. Universal's live-action adaptation of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON.
Both of these movies were delayed from their first-nabbed release dates, ELIO seeing the biggest delay. When it was eyeballing March 1st of this year, ELIO had a trailer and a poster out. Then during the writer and actors' strikes last summer/autumn, Disney delayed the Pixar picture by a year and a half. As rumors indicate, this picture needed to be extensively retooled... Can't do that when the writers and actors voicing the characters are out there fighting for what's right, so it had to wait.
Live-action DRAGON first nabbed March 14, 2025, and then moved to ELIO's date after ELIO took it. It is currently filming in Ireland.
Out of these two movies, I think DRAGON is a guaranteed success. As much as some of us don't like 'em, live-action adaptations of things largely associated with animation tend to do pretty good. Whether it's streaming shows or feature films. Once in a while Disney doesn't score, but when they do... They do. Often to the tune of a billion dollars, or at least half as much as that. Last summer's LITTLE MERMAID may not have made back its budget, but $560m+ is still nothing to scoff at. It's a *flop* in the same way MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING was. Made lots of money and was quite popular, still wasn't enough. Then you wonder why there are strikes, eh? The HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON animated trilogy that was made at DreamWorks is pretty beloved, all of its installments grossing above $490m+ worldwide each. And Dean DeBlois, who directed on each film, directs the live-action movie too. John Powell returns to score, Gerard Butler is back to play Stoick the Vast. The familiarity will help it, but if it's different enough to stand out, that could also really help it. The first movie will also be 15 years old by then, definitely some nostalgia there. I think it'll at least make $150m domestically, if not $200m. From the outside, it looks like a "live-action remake of a DreamWorks animated movie".
Whereas ELIO? I've repeated this ad naseum, but animated movies that aren't sequels or easily-recognizable IP (read: Mario) tend to open low in this day and age. ELEMENTAL, Pixar's first not-sequel picture to open theatrically since ONWARD, collected the lowest opening ever for one of their movies. Luckily, it had legs and audiences overseas really dug it, getting it nearly past the 2.5x-its-budget threshold. I'm sure Disney wants a bona fide return to Pixar blockbusters, original and sequel. Thus they would probably want ELIO to remain a summer launch. Pixar barely ever deviates from a late May/mid June release, with the exceptions of some March and November releases. Typically, they like that June space.
I also noticed... There's a sizable gap in early 2025. There's an animated feature set for late January (DOG MAN), another for February (THE SMURF MOVIE)... And then, nothing till ELIO. March and April, completely blank. No doubt caused by the strikes, maybe more if/when an animation strike erupts this coming summer.
I do wonder if ELIO, since the delay gave it *plenty* of time to be fixed up (I hear it isn't a GOOD DINOSAUR situation where they completely started over, just re-configuring whole parts of it), will be completed ahead of schedule. Disney has an untitled project set for early March, likely a placeholder for something. Could just be a Searchlight or 20th Century movie, maybe ELIO could move there. Live-action SNOW WHITE opens later that month... But that didn't stop Disney from planning on releasing ELIO and SNOW WHITE together this past March. Disney often tends to put things close to each other. For example, MOANA - a Thanksgiving 2016 release - opened between early November release DOCTOR STRANGE and mid-December biggie ROGUE ONE. One example off the top of my head.
But it will all happen when it has to... I do doubt, however, that ELIO will go head to head with HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON '25 though. In addition to that, I still find it kinda weird that Disney Animation will have three sequels in a row when there was at least one original being developed there. Things often change close to release date, too, so... We shall see...
And lastly, I covered it before... This time an all-animated face-off... Warner Animation's CAT IN THE HAT movie vs. an untitled Pixar movie, both set for March 6, 2026. Until we know what the Pixar movie is, likely an original movie, I can't really say. I would reckon the Pixar movie moves, considering that Pixar hasn't landed a March hit yet. Circumstances... ONWARD was released right before the pandemic became a national issue here in the states, TURNING RED went straight to streaming, ELIO could've been this year's March picture but moved to next summer. Maybe March 2026 is when Pixar succeeds with a springtime release. That is, if CAT IN THE HAT ends up moving.

Mania XL Night 2 Review
That was a Walt Disney finish for a pro-wrestling supershow if I ever saw one. New champ, new era and the most WWE finish ever for a modern WrestleMania.
I predicted 4 out of 6 matches right. Drew over Rollins for the World Heavyweight title, the formula now for the big show of the year is to have everyone kick out of finishers at least 4 times in all of the main event and semi-main event matches, that's what happened here. Damian Priest cashes in. All MITB winners should cash in at Mania. Only 2 have done so and it makes the whole concept stupid.
LA Knight over Styles, with this win, they have to be pushing him for a singles title. Paul kept his US title, he's sticking around. Bayley over Iyo.
Roman's title reign stops here. Cody should have won last Mania, Roman didn't do much after retaining last year. Roman relied too much on his Bloodline faction, to retain the belt over and over and you know it was coming to an end when no one new was stepping in to challenge him for the title. His appearances on Raw and Smackdown have been reduced to part-timer, all this became very obvious right after SummerSlam 2023.
The match was your basic WWE mainevent in hyper mode. I'm 50/50 on the multiple run-in's. It was a throwback to The Attitude Era, where you had multiple run-ins lead to the outcome of the match. Bloodline, John Cena making the save, The Rock coming out to his music, The Undertaker giving him a chokeslam and the rest of it was too much. It took away so much from the actual match going on. When you have a big star like The Rock come out, the interest and focus shifts, I'd rate it 3 out of 5 stars at most.
Love it or hate it, this is the most WWE thing ever. The way WWE was painting Roman as the bad guy whose reign has to end and Cody was the man to do it was both corny and wholesome. Roman was champion for a reason, why treat him this way. WWE went with this storyline and if this was their intent, they make themselves look like overly-bias fan boys. Echos of this can be heard when the ring announcer made the shakey huge announcement. Cinematic, yes. Boredeline cringe, yes. Necessary, no.
Something more organic would have been cooler, unstoppable champion vs man-of-the-people challenger, never really bought in on the "finish the story" storyline. You have to be a fan of the individual to buy into something like that.

What do you think of this video essay "Walt vs Disney Analysis : The Artist vs The Machine" by NerveAMVMaker?
First off Anon I very much appreciate your recommendation. I apologize for the delay as I can be busy.
As for the vid itself, I gotta respect the videos that actually discuss Walt's involvement when it came to being a producer. It's funny because just today, my music teacher mentioned Mickey mousing and this video put into words well what I've always thought about when it came to the synchronization of audio and video. That's honestly what I've always tried to do when it came to making AMVs or small video idents and I finally understood.
A little trivia I've known before this, Fantasia's take on the Rite of Spring was actually not what the composer intended when he made that piece in 1913. That's why it was one of the most despised orchestral pieces before Disney's visual version of it.
When it came to his discussion of the films storywise, I feel Disney of the past vs the modern era represents the fact that, to me, the 2000s marked the actual death of the company's integrity. That is a VERY LONG story but to cut it short, Nerve's talk of the modern era's lack of subtlety stems from how public perception of Disney's past resulted in Disney trying to make up for attributions that never existed. If you want a simpler idea of what, research why the film Tangled got its title back then.
I get it though. The influence of Disney's older works felt like actual *Film* films and not just *Disney* films. In the same way, I want animated films to not just be seen purely as "animations" because it inherently isolates the idea that they can exist as anything more; that they're not really films like every live-action production.
Overall, very good analysis. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Favorite Disney Parks Attraction Showdown: Round 2 - Group C
Videos and propaganda under the cut!
Na'vi River Journey: WDW Animal Kingdom
youtube
